"What does it think? What does it seek?"
-Quirrel, when meeting with Boon for the first time

A wandering bug whom Quirrel encounters and befriends in his arrival to Hallownest as depicted in the Hollow Knight comic.

  • Ambiguous Gender: There are no hints on Boon's gender, and their face is even concealed In the Hood.
  • Canon Foreigner: A new character introduced in the first Hollow Knight comic.
  • Hero of Another Story: Boon splits paths with Quirrel just after they rested and conversed. While Quirrel went to find the Kingdom of Hallownest, Boon's destination is not stated.
  • In the Hood: They wear clothing that resembles a hood that covers most of their face.
  • The Nicknamer: Boon calls Quirrel as "Mask" in the comic.
  • Third-Person Person: Boon talks simplistically and in the third-person.

    Ellina the Chronicler

"My travels brought me to Hallownest purely out of curiosity; though I expected to find naught but a desolate ruin down below, what awaited me was quite possibly the adventure of a lifetime.
-Ellina, writing an introduction of herself

The in-universe fictional author of the Hollow Knight Wanderer's Journal, detailing her experiences within Hallownest.

  • All There in the Manual: The side material, Wanderer's Journal, also accounts Ellina's additional observations to some of the creatures of Hallownest that are not in the Hunter's Journal, like the tidbit of how the infected blisters on a Furious Vengefly's wings improve their flight.
  • Canon Foreigner: A new character introduced in the Hollow Knight Wanderer's Journal.
  • Hero of Another Story: The Wanderer's Journal is written by her, based on her experiences from exploring Hallownest.
  • The Magnificent: "The Chronicler"
  • Missed Him by That Much: Ellina's story occurs as the same time as the events of the game, when the Knight arrived and is making progress on its separate journey:
    • As evidenced by how she was able to note Bretta being trapped in the Fungal Wastes, but encountered her later in Dirtmouth.
    • She also found the sealed Abyss, and came back to it later once it'd been opened to explore it.
    • She never meets the Knight directly, although Ellina noticed Sheo's painting of the Knight learning the Nail Art.
    • She does catch a glimpse of the Knight when she leaves the kingdom and returns to the surface.
