Main characters (Spoilers regarding their names are unmarked)

    Agent "Blue"

Whinter Castello

The newest member of Team Splat Jam and a newbie to turf wars looking to prove himself. Is a big fan of the Squid Sisters. He uses the Krak-on Splat Roller in battles.
  • Embarrassing First Name: He regards his actual name as this. Considering how the puns practically write themselves, it's not hard to see why.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: His name in anything past the original Heroes of Inkopolis comic.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: His approach to battling is to charge in with his roller at the ready. This leads to him getting absolutely destroyed by Orange in turf war, and would have gotten himself Killed Off for Real at the hands of an Octoling soldier if Orange hadn't come to his rescue. He wises up a bit later.
  • Official Couple: Becomes one with Orange/Clementine.
  • Pungeon Master: Many of his early appearances has him make lame puns whether they be age appropriate or crude. the Splatoon 1 Splatfest drawings are his most egregious offenders.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: At first with Orange, due to clashing battle styles, philosophies and personalities not lining up with each other.

    Agent "Orange"

Clementine Lanark

A young member of a famous charger family and the leader of Team Vitamin Ink. Her weapon of choice is the Splat Charger.
  • I Can't Dance: Claims this when asked to dance by Blue.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Her name in anything past the original Heroes of Inkopolis comic.
  • Official Couple: Later on with Blue/Whinter.
  • Rich Bitch: Used to be this when she was younger. She and Jonquil were among the richest kids in school, and for that reason they decided they were better than everyone else.
  • Scars Are Forever: She has a huge scar on her back from years back. She got it from a Splat Bomb that went off while she and Belladona were fighting.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: At first with Blue, where their philosophies and personalities clashed with each other.

The teams

    Team Splat Jam

Marian Camembert

The leader of the team. She prefers to focus on inking to build up inkstrikes to help her team from behind. She uses the Slosher.
  • Amicable Exes: She and hers are most certainly not. Especially after what happened to Clementine.
  • Childhood Friends: With Belladonna.
  • The Rival: Considers herself and her team to be this to team Vitamin Ink, to the point that she's furious when she finds out that Clementine and Whinter are dating.
  • The Strategist: Her style of leadership.
  • Scary Shiny Glasses: Fairly frequently.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Before she was kicked out of Splat Jam for unruly behavior, Belladona used to be Marian's best friend and lover. Ejecting her from the team was one of the most conflicting decisions Marian had to make.

Vadelma Lappi

The daughter of the couple who run Cafe Cardamari (an in-universe restaurant) and works there when not battling. Her weapon is the Luna Blaster.

Logan Halloumi

The most modest, quiet, but lazy member of the team. He uses an E-Liter 3k as the sole defensive player on the team.
  • Big Eater: He loves eating food. When Art Evolution settles in, this is reflected by his chubbier appearance.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: He's very good at what he does, but is prone to be late to practice and avoids anything physical as much as possible.
  • Puppy Love: Has a crush on Tanrine from team Vitamin Ink.

    Team Vitamin Ink

In General

  • Theme Naming: All of the members of this team have names that are based on different types of oranges.

Tanrine Emlett

The youngest member of the team. She is a cousin of Daisy of team Petal Splash. She uses an Inkbrush.
  • The Confidant: Was the first of Vitamin Ink to learn about Angelo's mixed heritage, and the first to accept him with no strings attached.
  • Genki Girl: Is considered the team spirit, and is very full of energy.
  • Girlish Pigtails: As of 2018 (Real life time), Tanrine switched from the basic Inkling girl hairstyle to the pigtail style from the second game.
  • I'm Taking Him Home with Me!: On a Salmon Run, Tanrine picks up a Salmonid and brings him home as a pet. She calls him Chip.
  • Lethal Chef: Though nobody has been willing to tell her.
  • Like Brother and Sister: With Angelo. They're so close that they've fallen into a faux familial relationship over time.
  • Pubescent Braces: One of the younger members with braces to match. According to one Tumblr post, Tanrine has them because of a crooked beak.
  • Puppy Love: Has a crush on Logan from team Splat Jam.
  • Shipper on Deck: Likes to discuss cute pairings with Daisy, and witnessed Taloupe and Cosmo as they had their first romantic moment.

Taloupe Pecorino

A shy boy from a rich family who started doing turf wars at his parent's insistence. Uses a Splash-O-Matic.

Angelo Rollot

A mysterious squid boy who, as a solo player, gained a reputation as a silent killer before joining this team. Uses a Custom Splattershot Jr.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Though not related to Tanrine, Angelo is always in big brother mode when he's with her. He even does the big brother inspection when he learns that Tanrine has a crush on somebody.
  • Official Couple: With Orca.
  • The Quiet One: To the point that he's mysterious even to his own team.
  • Not So Stoic: After coming out to his team that he's an Inkling/Octoling Hybrid, he becomes a bit more emotional.

    Team Petal Splash

Jonquil Requeson

The leader of the team and an egotistical narcissist, but still very capable when he gets down to business. He uses the Heavy Splatling.
  • Berserk Button: Hitting him in the face.
  • The Fashionista: Prides himself on his looks.
  • Graceful Loser: Is stated to take losses better than the other team captains.
  • Kids Are Cruel: While Jonquil is one of the nicest captains in the series, he was a jerk as a child. He regularly made fun of Belladonna's fashion sense and accent when they went to school together.
  • Speech Impediment: His accent gives him a very noticeable lisp when he talks.

Daisy Valencay

The team's only girl (who wouldn't have it any other way), and a shameless flirt. She is a cousin of Tanrine from team Vitamin Ink. Uses the Octobrush.
  • Good Bad Girl: When she isn't flirting, she is quite kind and caring towards her friends and teammates.
  • Shipper on Deck: Much like her cousin, and even uses the word ship to describe witnessing Taloupe and Cosmos' moment.
  • The Tease: She will towards any boy who catches her fancy.

Cosmo Morcella

Extroverted and energetic, when he's not battling, he's playing at the arcade, or enjoying his true passions with DJ gigs and remixing music. Uses an N-Zap ‘89.

Sorrel Livarot

The youngest team member, he's quite the loudmouth and Try-hard. Uses an Aerospray RG.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: His crush towards Cyanthia of team Toxink. Is also on the receiving end of this from Vadelma's younger sister Kriskka.
  • Comically Serious: The member of the team who takes the battles most seriously.
  • Scrub: His appearance and choice of weapon were based on what was popular in Splatoon at the time.

    Team Toxink

In general

  • Purple Is Powerful: One of the strongest teams on the circuit, with a poisonous purple as their main color.
  • The Rival: To Splat Jam.
  • Theme Naming: Are all named after different varieties of poison, that is belladonna, cyanide, arsenic, and tetrodotoxin. Each of their last names are also named after different cheeses.

Belladonna Saltbush

The leader of the team, who is a feared veteran of turf wars. She uses the Golden Dynamo Roller.
  • Awesome Aussie: Said to have an Australian accent. While her parents can't speak Inkling, she only learned how to speak with an accent while watching Australian nature documentaries.
  • Butch Lesbian: She’s a quite tomboyish person who had a romantic relationship with Marian before the splat bomb incident.
  • Childhood Friends: With Marian.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: In the second comic arc, she can be spotted watching the match between teams Splat Jam and Vitamin Ink.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Stated to have very little patience. Her poor temper accidentally led to Clementine's back injury, due to a loose Splat Bomb going off outside game territory.
  • Happily Adopted: She was taken in by a Jellyfish family, and was good with them ever since.
  • Hidden Depths: Belladona is a hopeless romantic underneath her tough exterior. It's part of the reason why she sets up Tetrox to live with Arnick after her first battle against them.
  • I Shall Return: Promises Splat Jam that she is going to continue playing Turf War after her suspension. As we know at present, she's made good on that.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She may be very impatient and deadly in battle, but she genuinely cares for her teammates and their input. Also has a soft spot for children.
  • Persona Non Grata: Was previously banned from turf battling for a year after the Splat Bomb incident.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Not only because her team's color and her natural hair are purple, but also because she's one of the strongest and most aggressive players in the cast.
  • Scary Black Woman: Certainly invokes this with her S+ rank and appearance.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: When we see her in her school days, she was a sweet and friendly person who got messed with a lot because of her accent and adoptive parents.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Her bio and some posts outside the main comics imply she was this with Marian. This was confirmed in the Final Match arc.

Cyanthia Laguiole

A girl from a rich family who took to turf wars after getting bored with the rich life. Uses a Splattershot Jr.

Arnick Stilton

The only guy on the team and an agent wannabe who is dying to be accepted into Squidbeak Splatoon. He follows Belladonna's orders like a soldier. Uses squiffer or bamboozler weapons, with the latter as his main.
  • Berserk Button: The fact that he's not yet an agent. If the 2 comic did happen, he would have gotten his wish granted.
  • British Stuffiness: Tamarinfrog fashions him with an English accent, and he does live up to its national stereotype of uptight, snobby, and rude.
  • Comically Serious: Regularly in the side comics.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Like Cyanthia, he joined the team after being defeated by Belladonna.
  • Fantastic Racism: Has a strong distaste of Octolings, to the point of raising the loudest objections when Tetrox was accepted into the team. Word of God also states that this is the main reason Captain Cuttlefish refuses to accept him as an agent. How much his developing relationship with Tetrox changes this has yet to be seen.
  • Interspecies Romance: With Tetrox, an Octoling.
  • Jerkass: Stands out even amongst his teammates.
  • Official Couple: With Tetrox.
  • Race Fetish: After getting together with Tetrox, Arnick finds Octarian women in general attractive. He certainly had a hard time adjusting to Octolings coming to play in droves.

Tetrox Gorgonzola

An octoling who was accepted after proving her skills to Belladonna. Her backstory remains a mystery. Uses an Octoshot Replica.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Her bios cast her in this light, and little is known about her life or motives before coming to Inkopolis.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Originally she came to the surface to steal the Great Zapfish away again. Somewhere along the way, specifically after the Octarians' collective brainwashing was uplifted by Blue and Orange, she gave up that goal and is perfectly happy living with Arnick and fighting at Inkopolis Plaza.
  • Interspecies Romance: Tetrox (Octoling) with Arnick (Inkling).
  • Mysterious Past: We don't know much about her apart from being from Octo Valley.
  • Official Couple: With Arnick.
  • Token Minority: Of the main cast and of Team Toxink. She's the only full-blooded Octarian on any side.
