Godfrey Family

Olivia Godfrey

Played by: Famke Janssen
The Matriarch of the Godrey family and Upir.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: If nothing else, she was a daddy's girl.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: Spends much of season two seemingly going through a change after realising she's dying of cancer such as apologising to Shelley for how she treat her and once she found out Roman had remained an Upir she even accepts her upcoming death. But when Norman leaves her and mocks her slow deterioration all that goes out the window and by start of season three, she is back to being a villain.
  • Kick the Dog: Murders Prycilla to restore herself whilst at the same time robbing Shelley the chance of having a normal life.
  • My Beloved Smother: Has this towards Roman to a near uncomfortable degree.

Roman Godfrey

Played by: Bill Skarsgård
The eldest son who befriends Peter Rumancek and helps him throughout season 1. At the end of the first season he becomes an Upir.
  • Died on Their Birthday: In the Season One finale, "Birth", Roman opts to slit his wrists and commit suicide on his birthday, rather than kill his and Letha's baby daughter. However, bleeding out and dying from this causes Roman to reawaken as an Upir.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: For all his faults Roman does genuinely care for his younger sister.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: Despite his attempts to not be like his mother Roman ultimately becomes just as dangerous resulting in Peter killing him after he murdered Destiny.
  • Matricide: At the end of season one Roman becomes an Upir and proceeds to rip out Olivia's tongue rather than feed on his daughter. Unfortunately, Pryce is able to bring her back.
  • You're Not My Father: Rejects Norman when the latter tells him that he is his real father. Olivia had already revealed the truth a few episodes prior.

Shelley Godfrey

Played by: Nicole Boivin (Season 1), Madeline Martin (Season 2&3)
The youngest daughter. After dying as a baby her father brought her back using Dr Pyrce. However, this led to Shelley becoming a humanoid creature.
  • Frankenstein's Monster: What her character is meant to represent.
  • Misunderstood Loner Witha Heartof Gold: Probably the most innocent character in the show. The only time she kills is to protect herself or people she cares for such as Roman, Peter, Letha and Jason.
  • Sole Survivor: The only major character from season one to survive (with the exception of Peter who has become a Vargulf).

Letha Godfrey

Played by: Penelope Mitchell
Roman's cousin and daughter of Norman Godfrey. At the start of season one she believes she has been impregnated by an angel. Later on she develops a relationship with Peter.

Norman Godfrey

Played by Dougray Scott
Letha's father and brother to the late JR. He has been having a secret affair with Olivia and holds a great deal of mistrust towards Pryce.
  • Amicable Exes: With his former wife Marie. So much so that when she goes missing Norman hires a private detective to help him investigate her disappearance. He's also distraught once he realises Olivia killed her.
  • Idiot Ball: Decides to taunt Olivia about her failing health rather than killing her (which is what he had been planning to do). This leads to his own death at her hands.

  • He Who Fights Monsters: Ends up murdering Roman to avenge his cousin's death but in doing so is now stuck as Vargulf for the rest of his life.

Destiny Rumancek

Played by Kaniehtiio Horn
Peter's cousin who already lives in Hemlock Grove. Destiny is a witch who provides aid towards Peter and Roman despite her own misgivings between the close friendship between the two.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Despite being cousins Destiny does display these elements. She threatens Miranda because she's under the impression that she is using him whilst still in a relationship with Roman.
