     Fuyuki City

Emiya Household

General Tropes:

  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: They're a collection of weird and wacky characters with seemingly no similar characteristics.

Shirou Muramasa Emiya

The nineteenth heir to the Muramasa clan. He is an Incarnation of Sword and the Master of Saber.

  • Abled in the Adaptation: Downplayed. He has more Magic Circuits and a pretty sizeable Magic Crest compared to canon (32 circuits here compared to 27 low-quality ones in canon).
  • Adaptational Badass: Because of his lineage and knowledge of actual magecraft, Shirou is a lot more competent here than in canon. Case in point, he's able to go toe-to-toe with Dead Apostle Ancestors and even Servants that aren't just EMIYA or Gilgamesh.
  • Badass Biker: Becomes one by the Holy Grail War arc. It's implied that Bazett taught him.
  • Berserk Button: Go ahead, demean the quality of his blades, we'll see if you come out alive.
    • Additionally, looking down on the dream of his bloodline, or messing with his forge in some way or another.
  • The Blacksmith: Guess.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Has gotten quite a bit of female attention, most of which he doesn't care about.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Expresses it out loud more often than in canon.
  • Don't Think, Feel: Weaponises this against his opponents. His dodges are so precisely timed that to a seasoned warrior, their instincts tell them that they've hit him, when in actuality he's dodged the attack.
  • Eyes Always Closed: Downplayed. He only has his left eye closed most of the time to hide his Fairy Eye
  • Eye Scream: Has his left eye clawed out by Primate Murder. He gets better.
    • While looking at Ea in canon only gave Shirou a very bad headache, when he looks at it in chapter 29, is causes his eyes to burst into blood. Metal.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The Responsible to Illya's Foolish.
  • Healing Factor: Courtesy of Avalon.
  • Heroic Neutral: Wants absolutely no part in the Holy Grail War, but decides to participate anyway.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: He's an Incarnation of Sword, and he uses swords.
  • I Call It "Vera": Forged a sword he calls Kuro-chan designed to grow stronger after every battle.
  • Magical Eye: After Primate Murder claws his left eye out, Avalon's flawed healing instead gives him a Fairy Eye instead of replacing the eye as it once was.
  • Red Baron: The Second Anniversary chapter reveals he became known as the “Demonic Blacksmith” within the Clock Tower, not unlike his ancestor.
    • In Chapter 33, he reveals the title bestowed onto him by Gilgamesh: the King of Blades.
  • Related in the Adaptation: He's unambiguously related to Senji Muramasa here.
  • The Perfectionist: Downplayed, but he still has ridiculously high standards for his creations, to the point that everyone in the Clock Tower worries about what his perception of "perfect" would be, especially considering that the stuff he makes is already extremely high quality. He'll even throw out and remake a blade over a tiny imperfection while forming it.

Kiritsugu Emiya

The (now semi-retired) Magus Killer, and patriarch of the Emiya household.

Irisviel Emiya

The matriarch of the Emiya Household.

Illyasviel Emiya

Shirou's adopted sister, and the Master of Archer.

Fuyuki City Others

Rin Tohsaka

Heir to the Tohsaka lineage, Second Owner of Fuyuki City, and Master of Assassin.

Sakura Matou

Adopted Heiress to the Matou clan and Master of Rider.

  • Adaptational Personality Change: Downplayed, but due to certain events, she's a lot more confident in herself than in canon, and is willing to fight instead of passing Rider onto Shinji.
  • Casting a Shadow: Able to manipulate shadows, as shown in the fight with Enhance.

     Clock Tower

Lord El-Melloi II/Waver Velvet

Lord of the Department of Modern Magecraft Theory and a highly respected professor within the Clock Tower.

  • Stern Teacher: Hit attitude is strict, but fair, and he's not above admonishing people for their mistakes.
  • Weak, but Skilled: His thaumaturgical skill is notably average, but his knowledge, tactical prowess, and cunning more than make up for it. In fact, his average skill is sometimes an advantage for him, as his opponents vastly underestimate him.

Gray

The apprentice of Lord El-Melloi II. A clone of King Arthur created in an attempt to resurrect her.

  • Big Eater: A trait she seems to have inherited from Artoria
  • Red Baron: Becomes known as the "Princess of Death" within the Clock Tower, much to her chagrin and embarressment.

Luviagelita Edelfelt

A magus of the Clock Tower, Luvia is one of Shirou's friends in the Association, and becomes one of the Masters of Caster in the Holy Grail War.

  • Dude Magnet: Becomes one as she matures.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: A quick line in chapter 14 states that she even has a few girls swooning over her.
  • The Gadfly: Enjoys provoking Gray and Rin.
  • Not a Morning Person: In Chapter 6 she mentions that a meeting at 8 AM wouldn't work for her. In Chapter 34, 6 in-universe year later, Rin says that she's normally still asleep by 8 AM.
  • Red Baron: The Second Anniversary chapter gives her the moniker of “Crystaline Hyena.”

Kristina Edelfelt

Luvia's sister and the other Master of Caster.

  • Aristocrats Are Evil: Even though she's part of the Democratic Faction, the way she acts has been noted to more resemble those of someone from the Aristocratic Faction, and she's being set up as one of the villains of the Holy Grail War arc. Additionally, she's an arrogant asshole who seems to be unable to get along with Shirou.
  • Brainwashed: Morgan brainwashes her with magecraft when she lets her guard down during chapter 26. Shirou fixes it with Rule Breaker, but it only seems to work for one day.
  • Hated by All: It's unknown if she has any friends, but among the main characters, she's completely intolerable. An omake in the Anniversary Chapter even puts down the possibility that she will not be missed if she dies.
  • O.C. Stand-in: While Luvia is known to have a sister in canon, not many details have been given about her. Kristina's personality had to be crafted almost from scratch.
  • Sibling Team: Defied. She should form one with Luvia, but they do not get along well, and when they're fighting together in chapter 8, their teamwork is abysmal, frequently getting in the way of each other's attacks.

Olga-Marie Animusphere

Heir to the Animuspheres, and Lord El-Melloi II's second apprentice. Later, the Master of Lancer in the Great Holy Grail War.

Lorelei Barthomeloi

Vice Director of the Clock Tower, Lord of the Department of Policies and head of the Chelon Canticle Brigade.

Bazett Fraga McRemitz

A descendant of the Fraga clan. She currently works as an Enforcer for the Clock Tower, and is the Master of Lancer.

  • Spared by the Adaptation: Thanks to Scathach's awareness, she's not killed by Kotomine, and Scathach instead kills him.

     Servants

Servants of the Fifth War

Saber: Artoria Pendragon

The King of Knights, summoned by Shirou.

Archer: Heracles

The most famous Hero of Greece, summoned in his Archer form by Illya.

  • Adaptational Badass: Since Heracles isn't contained in a Berserker class nor has been corrupted by the Holy Grail Mud, he has access to the Noble Phantasms he didn't have access to due to in the other storylines due to them being sealed because of the circumstances of his summoning. In addition, he's able to think more cognitively and not just be used as a powerful attack dog nor is he forced to relive his trauma such as in Fate/Strange Fake, allowing him to actually show what he's capable of.
  • Aloof Archer: Cool-headed and an extremely intelligent bowman.
  • Genius Bruiser: Because he's summoned as an Archer, he has full access to his massive intellect and cunning, displayed in chapter 28 where he figures out just how Berserker is a tricky fight for him. He's also not above going into the melee if fighting at range isn't working for him.
  • Master Archer: It noted to be one of the best. He manages to nail Morgan le Fey, flying through the air at a pretty fast speed, with a shot that he fired through a tree that forces her to retreat.

Lancer: Scáthach

The Witch of Dún Scáith, summoned in place of Cú Chulainn by Bazett due to the extra power in the Grail.

  • The Mentor: Serves as one in her own myths, and often takes up the role of a teacher when need be.

Rider: Medusa

The Gorgon of the Shapeless Isle, summoned by Sakura.

  • Media Adaptation Tropes: Entirely averted, she's the only Servant character who is completely the same from the lineup in Fate/Stay Night, and has not been changed in some way.

Caster: Morgan le Fey/Morgan Pendragon

The sister of Artoria, summoned as her fey and human personalities by the Edelfelt sisters.

  • Arc Villain: Le Fey is being set up to be one.
  • Literal Split Personality: Due to the way the Edelfelts summon Servants, Morgan was summoned as two Servants: le Fey, also known as The Witch, her fey, villous personality, and Pendragon, her heroic human personality.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Morgan Pendragon is allied with the heroes and is the good side of the split personality of a notable villain in Arthurian Legend.

Assasin: Semiramis

The queen of Assyria, summoned by Rin with an artifact recovered by Kiritsugu and Irisviel with the directions of Gilgamesh.

Berserker: Enkidu

The Servant of Walter von Einzbern.

  • Chain Pain: Uses tipped with blades in battle because they're Enkidu, the Chains of Heaven.
  • Dying as Yourself: Goes out with Gil in a Mutual Kill, but reverts back into their human form to give Gil a few last words.
  • Instant Knots: Their chains can immediately wrap around things, for example, someone's arm, if they happen to grab onto them.
  • Living Weapon: As Enkidu, they are a weapon of the gods designed to reign in Gilgamesh.
  • The Stoic: Seems to be this, although this could be because they don't speak much as a Berserker.
  • You No Take Candle: Speaks in slow sentences with omitted words due to being summoned as a Berserker. This is still better than most.

Servants of the Great Grail War

Saber: Okita Souji Alter

Archer: Arjuna

Lancer: Percival

Rider: Ozymandias

The Sun King, Rider of the Yggdmillenia forces and Servant to Darnic Prestone Ygddmillenia.

  • Awesome Ego: Flaunts his arrogance proudly for all to see, undermining his Master's plans for the invasion of Fuyuki, and upends them completely to have a contest with Shirou.

Caster: Xuanzang Sanzang

The Sandalwood Buddha, Servant of Fiore Forvedge Yggdmillennia
  • Token Good Teammate: Alongside her master, they secretly contact Shirou and ally with him, intending to turn on Darnic and the Yggdmillenia.

Avenger: Hessian Lobo

Berserker: Beowulf

The protagonist of the oldest epic poem in English literature, and Servant to Francesca Prelati.

  • Blood Knight: His first onscreen appearance has him wanting to fight something, making a request to his master to get the best opponent possible when the fighting starts.

Other Servants:

Gilgamesh

The King of Heroes, incarnated after the Fourth Holy Grail War.

  • Abandoned Catchphrase: Zig-zagged. In chapter 28, Rin notes that Gil hasn't called anyone "mongrel" for a while, implying that his character development caused him to stop, but he does call someone (the Einzbern) a mongrel immediately before.
  • Berserk Button: Played for laughs in an Omake. Apparently the presence of Ea-Nasir pisses him off enough to immediately use Enuma Elish on him.
    • Taken more seriously in chapter 27, where it's subtly stated that he would turn the Einzbern Castle into dust for summoning Enkidu as a Berserker.
  • Gentle Touch vs. Firm Hand: He establishes himself as the latter when training Shirou, being a tough mentor who pushes Shirou very hard in his training, contrasting his parents. He even cites himself as one while answering Shriou's question in chapter 29, and that he'd need someone like Enkidu or Siduri to balance himself out.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Turns out to be one, especially in the later half of chapter 21.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: Dies at the end of chapter 29.
  • Sink or Swim Mentor: Takes up this attitude when testing and training Shirou. Especially prominent when they first meet, dumping the task of refining a sword technique and forging a copy of a blade in one month on the head of a eight-year old child.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Is far more mellow than his canon self. Being defeated by a dead Apostle Ancestor helps.

Ruler: Jeanne d'Arc

     Dead Apostle Ancestors

Altrouge Brunestud

Ninth of the Twenty-Seven Dead Apostle Ancestors, holding the Principle of Contracts.
  • Ascended Extra: She hasn't even had a physical appearance in the source materials. Here, she's the Big Bad.
  • Blood Magic: Can control large amounts of blood.
  • The Beastmaster: Controls Primate Murder, and her Idea Blood seems to summon Phantasmal Beasts.
  • Summon Magic: Her Idea Blood seems to be this. Additionally, she has access to Marble Phantasm, with which she can summon the Millennium Castle Brunestud
  • The Worf Effect: Chapter 21 shows her drawing, maybe even winning from a certain point of view, in a fight with Gilgamesh. Chapter 22 then shows how far out of her league she is when facing the Rainbow Serpent, who even Primate Murder can't scratch.

Enhance

Eighteenth of the Twenty-Seven Dead Apostle Ancestors, holding the Principle of Sword.
  • Arc Villain: Of the Sword Origin arc.
  • Blood Knight: Enjoys fighting others.
  • Cool Sword: His Idea Blood: Demonic Sword Avenger.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: The main issue with his powers. He has an Idea Blood, a pretty powerful one at that, but he can't figure out how to use it, so he ended up using an Aria to activate it, something which Idea Bloods don't need.
  • One-Winged Angel: Goes into this form to chase down and kill Shirou when he flees with Illya to the Einzbern Castle.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: Among the Dead Apostle Ancestors, he's rather weak. However, weak by their standards is still impossibly strong by the likes of regular humans and most magi.
  • Power Degeneration: Using the Holy Burial Artillery Scripture rots his hand, as its holy power is dangerous to an Ancestor. On the other hand, his Ideal itself attacks his body when he invokes it, as he is more human than other Ancestors, and the vampiric Ideal attacks his human half.
  • Sword and Gun: Wielded the Holy Burial Artillery Scripture (a magical shotgun) along with his swords, until it was stolen by Rin and used against him.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Gets to be the antagonist of one story arc, and is then killed by Shirou and his friends.

     Other

Jubstacheit von Einzbern

The patriarch of the Einzbern family.

  • Gruesome Grandparent: Is one of the antagonists of the story, and is Illya and Shirou’s “grandfather” (homonculi familial relationships are odd).

Walter von Einzbern

The Master of Berserker, sent to Fuyuki to win the Grail for the Einzberns.

  • Clashing Cousins: Refers to Illya as “Cousin,” and is one of the antagonists. This is even shown at the end of chapter 27, where they put their Servants against each other.
  • Flat Character: Doesn't get much characterisation beyond "wants to win the Grail for the Einzberns by any means possible," and then dies.
  • We Barely Knew You: Gets barely any characterisation (much less than Enhance) and only a few scenes and then is swiftly killed off by Scathach.

Caren Hortensia

The Overseer of the Fifth Holy Grail War, selected to replace Kirei after he was killed.

The Rainbow Serpent

A Divine Spirit of Australia.

  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Mainly due to existing everywhen, so they can simply exist at a time when they weren't hurt.
  • No-Sell: Takes a hit from Primate Murder himself and doesn't even flinch.
  • Time Abyss: Is at the very least, 40000 years old, due to the Aboriginal spirituality having existed for that long on average. Due to how the Nasuverse works, they're definitely older.
  • Time Master: In an unconventional way. They don't travel through time or manipulate it, they just simply exist at every point in time.
