Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

     Professor Albus Dumbledore
The Headmaster of Hogwarts, as well as good friend of HMS Victory.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Make no mistake, while Dumbledore might play up the goofy angle a lot of the time, age has not dulled his skill as a wizard or, as shown in the hunt for Peter Pettigrew, his mind for tactics.
  • Dirty Business: Has serious misgivings about asking children to help him deal with the Death Eaters. Has not let that stop him from asking young Hanna Hipper to help kill Fenrir Greyback, or from relying on Draco Malfoy to be The Mole for Death Eater recruitment.
  • Establishing Character Moment: The first time we see Dumbledore, he is seen riding a segway to flee Victory after eating her last chocolate biscuit. We later see him chasing her on segway after she eats the last of his Lemon Sherbet (due to the war, both items are rationed).
  • The Gadfly: Loves to troll others.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: During talks for the Triwizard Tournament, when asked what Hogwarts would do for the First Task, Dumbledore, annoyed that such a deadly tournament was being revived in the first place, snarked that maybe the champions should, in the spirit of the Hogwarts motto, tickle a sleeping dragon. This served as the inspiration for the canon typical task of stealing a golden egg from a nesting mother dragon.
  • Not So Above It All: An Omake by Harry Leferts had Harry, Ron, and Neville enter Great Hall doing their best impressions of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure moments such as the Pillar Men, showing off just how muscular they had become. Dumbledore, after a moment for everyone who was Eating the Eye Candy, simply asked, "Are you approaching me?" before flexing so his robes were literally ripped from his body, revealing a body that looked like it should have belonged to a much younger man.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With HMS Victory of all people. He's one of the only people able to get under her skin.

     Professor Minerva McGonagall
Transfiguration Teacher, Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts, and Head of Gryffindor House.
  • Beleaguered Assistant: Her job is rather trying when your boss is Albus Dumbledore, and some of your students are military brats. Especially when one of your students is ordered to make a scene in class to report in.
  • Retired Badass: Jumped into Normandy on D-Day as part of a magical commando team alongside Professor Sprout and Augusta Longbottom. Every year on June 6th they lift a toast to their comrades who did not survive World War Two.

     Professor Pomona Sprout
Herbology teacher and head of Hufflepuff House.
  • BFG: Obtained what is arguably the most rapid-firing non-gatling gun used in World War II in the form of the MG 42. Currently keeps it in her office as a trophy.
  • Green Thumb: Is the teacher of the Herbology course, a field that she applied extensively during World War II.
  • Retired Badass: Fought alongside Minerva McGonagall, Colombe du Chasteler, Augusta Longbottom, and Delilah de Breuil during World War II. Currently a simple Hogwarts professor.

     Professor Filius Flitwick
Charms teacher and head of Ravenclaw House.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: As per canon, he is half goblin.
  • Master Swordsman: Displayed the ability to beat Yae, who is no slouch at using a sword.
  • Sex God: After the First Task of the Triwizard Tournament, had a tryst with Inga Koch that left the German NB (who is a former porn actress mind you!) ragged while he was still fresh as a daisy. Come the Second Task, RO's sisters tried their luck, and they were left in an equally ragged state.

     Professor Severus Snape
Potions teacher and head of Slytherin House
  • Actually Pretty Funny: Seems to be legitimately amused by Harry's pranks, as nothing aside from dignity is damaged.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Is far more fair to the other Houses when teaching.
  • Character Catchphrase: Has "So very much like Lily" in regards to Harry's pranks and methods.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Very much so, in some ways even more than in the books. It helps that he has a lot of chances to deploy his biting wit, as seen when (acting under orders to take Draco to the Headmaster's Office to report on the Death Eater meeting he just infiltrated) he breaks up a makeout session between Draco Malfoy and Kamilla Kozma.
Kamilla, now quite red in the face and breathing hard, nodded before pulling Draco in for a passionate kiss while her hands pulled at his robes.

A rather loud theatrical cough suddenly froze both teenagers.

As one they turned in the direction of the noise.

A visibly unamused Severus Snape was standing there tapping his wand in the palm of his hand.

"Mister Malfoy. Miss Kozma. I was under the mistaken impression that biology class is not in session. I do hope that you are not wearing those frilly black satin abominations, Miss Kozma. And Mister Malfoy, I do trust that you have better taste in your apparel than that dunderhead's ghastly flamingos." Both teenagers gulped as Snape's extremely chilly sarcastic tone killed the romantic mood stone dead.

"Miss Kozma, I strongly recommend that you adjust that skimpy excuse for a dress that you painted on yourself before Headmaster Karkaroff arrives to deal with you. And for Merlin's sake, cast a Warming Charm! It has to be freezing in that scrap of cloth. As for Mister Malfoy, the Headmaster would like a word with you. Adjust your tie, boy, it's crooked."

Draco swallowed and turned as pale as a sheet while he was marched off to his punishment.
  • Stepford Snarker: Somewhat less so than in canon thanks to having a much morte positive view of Harry (who resembles his mother more than his father, thanks to nod needing glasses quiet as much as canon), but still has a lot of pain bottled up.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: In addition to his high standards for Potions class, Snape is a VERY formidable wizard, as seen when he breaks up a very nasty girl fight between two teenage Dark Witches that had trashed the Slytherin Common Room.
Kamilla, squinting through the swollen eyes caused by a Conjunctivitus Curse and coughing up blood from a bolt of purple flame that Pansy had cast, snarled at Pansy, who was now covered with pimples and boils with half her hair blasted off and the rest a hideous shade of neon-pink.

    "Locomotor Wibbly!"

The boils and pimples covering Pansy's face sprouted tiny waving tentacles suddenly. Pansy staggered but gripped her wand tighter as she prepared another curse.

The door opened to reveal the looming form of the coldly furious Slytherin House Master.

"That's enough of this foolishness, you two dunderheads." Snape declared in an icy voice.

He nonchalantly flicked his wand. "Expelliarmus Duo."

Two wands flew across the room to be absently caught by Snape.

"Levicorpus Duo." Another casual wand flick.

Both girls were suddenly yanked by their ankles to hang upside down.

"That little slut—-" "That Mudblood—-" The two girls screamed at each other.

"Enough of that nonsense, Dunderheads. Silencio Duo!"

     Rubeus Hagrid
Groundskeeper and Keeper of the Keys at Hogwarts. Later took over teaching Care of Magical Creatures.
  • Pals with Jesus: He is a good friend with and the Divine Champion of Tara, the Primordial Goddess of Earth.
  • Ship Tease: Let's just say Hagrid and Wanko the Abyssal Harbor Princess are extremely adorable together. Gets a Relationship Upgrade after the Yule Ball.

     Ronald Weasley
One of Harry's friends at Hogwarts. A close friend of HMS Warspite which develops into romantic feelings
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: With Isabella. He's genuinely puzzled what a wonderful girl like her would see in him, much to Warspite and Duke's's amusement when they hear about the tango.
“So she’s an incomplete battleship… that… oh god. She might actually like me. That explains the dress…”

That got Warspite and Duke’s attention and Ron looked up to see two sets of eyes boring into him.

“The dress?” It was Duke’s turn to raise her eyebrow.

“The last dance lesson we had… she was wearing this nice red dress when we danced. I thought it was just to show me how the Tango is supposed to look. I didn’t think anything else of it.”

“The Tango?” Warspite shook her head again. “Yes, I think we’re going to need to have a talk with Miss Morandi sooner rather than later.”
  • The Engineer: Thanks to meeting Warspite, he becomes determined to fix her lingering injuries and battle damage, including her infamous rudder issues stemming from the Battle of Jutland. As a result, he has self-educated in naval engineering. His hard-earned expertise is shown as he is now able to produce builder-quality blueprints for Warspite, Duke of York, and Jean Bart from memory.
    • It has become a Running Gag among the commenters that he should be nicknamed Scotty, and be dressed in a Starfleet engineering uniform with Omakes being written along the lines of it.
  • Equipment Upgrade: Ron's first work was to fully heal Warspite of her wounds, including issues which plagued her ship form her entire career. Every work after has not only fixed whatever issue was brought to his attention but also added further capability to said ship/installation.
  • Gentleman and a Scholar: His girls are subtly training him into being this.
  • Has a Type: As Isabella learned the hard way, unless you're a battleship-class shipgirl or Abyssal who needs some heavy repairs or your design flaws to be corrected, Ron will have lots of trouble picking up on your advances. That said, once he identifies you as his type, Ron is pretty good at picking up on the signs of romantic interest, much to Isabella's relief after Warspite identified her as the spirit of an incomplete Italian battleship who was interested in him.
  • Hero of Another Story: Main character of the Ron, Warspite, and Duke and then Weasley's Warship Workshop side stories involving Ron and the girls dragged into his orbit.
  • I Didn't Mean to Turn You On: His highly detailed Blueprints for Shipgirls come across as highly intimate Nude Drawings to a Shipgirl's sensibilities. Warspite is left feeling extremely flustered when Ron shows her exactly what he has in mind to fix her mobility issues.
  • Nerds Are Sexy: Ron's good character and ethics, interest in naval engineering, compassion, and formidable intelligence is absolute catnip to his collection of Battleshipgirls and installations. Just the thought of him drawing builder's quality blueprints of their hulls by hand from memory is enough to get them weak in the knees and their boilers running hot.
    • Notably seen when he completed Jean Bart's upgrade and design completion. The first indication that his work on her succeeded to the point of not just fixing her current issues but making her better than her original design specs is when she grabs him and French kisses him very thoroughly in the repair baths. While wearing just a towel and in front of her grinning sister and Angie. She all but stated that was just a down payment and small sample of her feelings and intentions for him.
  • Smart People Play Chess: Ron originally met Warspite at a chess tournament and still enjoys a good game with her and the other girls. As for the intelligence, he has blueprinted Warspite's, Duke of York's, and Jean Bart's complete designs by hand before he turned fifteen.

     Hermione Granger
Muggle-born Gryffindor, and one of Harry's friends at Hogwarts. Revealed to be in fact the Dido-class light cruiser HMS Hermione, as well as the sole heir to the Dagworth-Granger estate.
  • Adaptational Curves: Let's just say being a shipgirl has been... very generous to her.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Hermione's hair started changing to the color of Azur Lane's Hermione following her awakening. Ironically, she's been literally dying her hair to hide this.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Her grandpa Jack calls her Anemone. Used to be an Embarrassing Nickname.
  • Ascended Meme: Was dubbed "HMS Done With This Shit" by readers due to her reaction to the shenanigans around her. Then her username on the Shipgirls Online forum was revealed...
  • Dungeon Bypass: Hermione's response to the key puzzle on the way to the fake Philosopher's Stone was to simply summon her rigging and open the door by force instead.
  • Made of Iron: As with all shipgirls, Hermione is quite durable, to the point that when she used her body to protect Pansy from Buckbeak, it was Buckbeak's claws that got hurt instead of Hermione.
  • Precision F-Strike: Had only one thing to say upon learning that Harry had been kidnapped towards the end of first year.
    Hermione:"Shite."
  • Related in the Adaptation: Unlike in canon Harry Potter, Hermione is descended from the Dagworth-Grangers.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: The other Gryffindor girls in Hermione's year figured out a long time ago that Hermione was a shipgirl, and they're not telling anyone.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Understandably given her sinking, Hermione has a fear of submarines. Of course it doesn't help that she has attracted the attention of RN submarines, all of who appear to have adopted BRIAN BLESSED as their patron saint.

     Neville Longbottom
  • Badass Boast: Thanks to living the life of a Viking hero gets more than his fair share of them against his foes, which frequently pull double duty as a Pre-Asskicking One-Liner during the posturing before a fight.note
  • Heartbroken Badass: Neville's relationship to his parents, who were tortured nearly to death by Death Eaters using the Cruciatus Curse. Neither one is capable of speech or recognizing him and flinch away when he visits. Still he goes to visit them out of love to help comfort them in their treatment at St. Mungo's. He even describes pain as an 'old friend who visits when he remembers his parents' in his internal monologues.
Neville Longbottom slowly stepped outside with a leaden tread.

His face could have been carved from stone, save the deep agony and burning fury in his brown eyes. His shoulders shook with his stifled, silent sobs. His white-knuckled hand clenched the empty wrapper of one of the candy bars that the staff had shared with his mother and father alongside the other patients in the ward that treated permanent spell damage during the Christmas Party for them.

The wrapper that his mother had pressed into the hand of a person that she was unable to speak to, unable to show any signs of recognition to past a faint fondness.

At least he had that much from her.

His father could only mumble, flinch, and whimper — like a horribly abused pet — whenever someone suddenly moved in his direction. Even when his only son had started to hurry toward his father.
  • Hero of Another Story: Has been headhunted by the Norse Pantheon to serve as a Swordsworn of Tyr and eventual combatant during Ragnarok after his death.
  • Secret Test of Character: His recruitment involved him seeing Severus Snape, Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle muggle-baiting a pair of helpless and crippled old men (really Odin and Tyr using simulacra to impersonate the people who he feared the most). Neville jumped in swinging to defend them and continued fighting even after being roughed up and losing his wand, including shrugging off an apparent Cruciatus Curse thanks to Heroic Willpower and controlling his family's heritage.
  • The Strategist: One of the boons of Tyr hones and focuses Neville's nascent skills for leadership, command, and visualizing the flow of battle at a glance. This is starkly shown when Neville takes tactical command of Draco's expedition to retrieve an item deep within Library of Secrets — which includes multiple characters who Neville has only met that day and is working with for the first time as he welds them into a well-oiled team that demolishes a pack of Library Springers:
Meanwhile Murglais levered his true body out of the corpse of the third Springer that he and Johnston had just taken down and snarked dryly. "So what about the rest of these beasts, O fearless war leader?" He gestured with his thumb at the ice wall, which was starting to seriously crack and shake under the assault of the surviving Springers despite the magical reinforcement.

Neville grinned like a wolf seeing a crippled pregnant ewe by itself as he snapped out orders crisply: "Drag Wash out of the way to safety with Lily, Murglais, Blood Ember! Then form up for a counter-charge. Cleo hits the ice wall with nose-fused HE to shatter the ice and blow it back into their faces as shrapnel, Niobe follows with half-second fused canister to add to the carnage and rock them back on their heels. Then we counter-charge and get our heavy hitters into CQC before they can recover. Diamond formation when we get stuck in: Johnston point, Blood Ember left apex, Juuchi right apex, Murglais middle as a reserve, Brigita, trail in the diamond! The rest of us fall in behind Cleo and Niobe and at my call throw up shield spells to protect us from shrapnel and blast from our shipgirls. Us wizards support the combatants with precision spell-casting as they put the boot in. Pratibha, Dipti, Amala, Trishna, stand as our reserve as needed and cover the other passages in case we attract more playmates! Lily, you're on Wash duty!"

    "Yes-yes, Neville-commander! Daughter-Bud will obey battle-commands to turn these delicious-creatures to tummy-yummies!"
  • Took a Level in Badass: Very much so. When he was first seen during First Year he was apparently the somewhat pudgy, clumsy bumbling wizard — who later on that summer stands up to an Abyssal attack on his friends to protect them (and get noticed by the Orions). By Fourth Year thanks to Blood Ember's tutoring and puberty hitting, Neville Longbottom has matured into a Viking warrior who can go toe-to-toe with a dark elf, demon, or troll in mortal combat and is enormously respected by his fellow champions, his friends, and the shipgirls and weapons spirits that he has fought alongside.

     Daphne Greengrass
Female Slytherin in Harry's year.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She is getting a lot of amusement from the antics around her.
  • Friend in the Black Market: Her family is heavily involved in the Apothecary business. Snape refers Harry to her to allow him to fence Acromantula body parts from a previously cleared infestation.

     Draco Malfoy
Harry's rival (of sorts) in Slytherin upon his arrival at Hogwarts. By Harry's Fourth Year, one of Harry's allies against the threat of the Death Eaters. Also eventual Champion of Lugh.
  • Batman Gambit: Draco is hugged by Pansy, who suddenly realizes that a dagger (actually Ehren's true body) is hidden under his clothing. Draco promptly concocts a cover story about the (fictitious) enchanted dagger Calumnia that his father gave him after Draco was petrified as an emergency ace in the hole. In the process, Draco drops enough hints for Ehren to secretly cast illusions on her true self to appear as Calumnia rather than the dagger which Pansy has seen her use before when he finally shows her off to Pansy. He even persuades Pansy to reveal one of her useful artifacts as part of this 'I'll show you mine and you show me yours' pureblood status dance since she thinks it will make him desire her more!
  • Bring My Brown Pants: Soiled himself when, while hiding from Abyssals at the Giant's Causeway, he encountered a Formarian that had been unsealed by the battle.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He has his moments. Most notably seen in his Stealth Insult of Pansy. Also seen in his final confrontation with Kamilla Kozma.note
  • Duel of Seduction: Draco Malfoy and Ehren du Chasteler's relationship during courtship and then their marriage is made of this trope. Since Draco wishes to 'ride the tiger' by being a husband to a powerful, strong willed, independant, and deadly woman (like his mother Narcissa's relationship to his father), while Ehren's Muramasa magical nature demands that her beloved Master must continually prove his worth by controlling his and her darker urges to misuse her, the result is a centuries-long 'game' of subtle one-upsmanship point-scoring and mutual consensual seductions that results in over a dozen biological children of theirs...
  • Even Evil Has Standards: While a Smug Snake at times, and interested in gaining power, Draco has certain strong moral lines that he will not cross such as betraying family. Family standing up for family is seen as a Malfoy ethos including with their du Chasteler cadet line.
  • Expy: From what can be seen, this iteration of Draco is pretty much turning into one of James Bond. He's showing a real flair for espionage. Further developed since the author of the stories about it usually links music from the collective OST at the beginning of each chapter
  • Guile Hero: While he's not bad in a fight, his loves are three shipgirls and a dagger spirit, so he instead excels by supporting and inspiring them, working political angles, planning how to deploy the heavy hitters and other indirect attacks on his foes.
    • Notably seen when he reported his observations of a Death Eater recruitment meeting to Dumbledore. He was under orders to find an excuse to speak privately with Dumbledore, so caused a major disruption in Transfiguration Class. This included included turning Pansy Parkinson's skirt transparent with a nonverbal spell while framing the Dark Witch Kamilla Kozma of Durmstrang (who he had asked to meet him after class) for that humiliation inflicted on Pansy. The result was that he was marched to Dumbledore's office while protesting all the way and threatening his father's retribution by McGonagall (who was in on his plan) for 'punishment' (actually a Legilimency session so that Dumbledore had the proof needed to persuade people in the Ministry of Magic).note
  • Half-Identical Twins: With his minutes-younger sister Nimue. While not actually totally identical, the siblings are close enough in body type, hair & eye color, and voice tone that a set of Ehren's illusions allow the Malfoys to fool Hogwarts students and staff.
  • Has a Type: Draco's romantic interest is stirred by extremely deadly and capable blonde badasses (like his mother Narcissa) who use psychological masks to hide serious vulnerabilities and deep traumas that he can help them heal from as a mix of Amazon Brigade strength and Broken Bird vulnerability and softness. All four of his Fleet have this dynamic going on in their own ways.note  Unfortunately for Pansy Parkinson, she fails Draco's romantic criteria while her personality flaws push Draco away by reminding him of his past failures and shortcomings before his Heel–Face Turn in Second year.
  • Heel–Face Turn: This begins far earlier than in the canon Sixth Year thanks to two major butterflies. First, During Second Year, the ghost of Tom Riddle in the Horcrux Diary petrifies him while keeping Draco conscious of his surroundings but unable to interact with them, after denigrating the pure-blood ideologies that Lucius gave lip service to causing Draco to initially believe in. Afterward, in the summer between his Second and Third Year, USS Johnston takes an interest in him and drags him off to see Star Wars to learn how to be a 'proper badass evil overlord' by seeing how one acts in Darth Vader while choosing to become his girlfriend. Finding out that his parents didn't truly believe in blood supremacy past using it as a political tool, wanting to live up to the seeds of greatness that Johnston (and then his other girls) see in him, and finally meeting and falling for his cousin Ehren du Chasteler (the victim of similar ideologies to what he used to espouse) cemented his path toward heroism. By the summer between his Third and Fourth Year, his path to becoming a hero is firmly established when Lugh claims him as a Champion shortly before Draco returns to Hogwarts.
  • Hero of Another Story: The main character of the Ship of Fools canon sidestories covering his Character Development. Now the Champion of Lugh and the primary tool of the Celtic Pantheon.
  • Heroic RRoD: Heavily overtaxed himself using the Summoning Charm to pull a badly-wounded Niobe - who was at the full weight of a Gazelle-Class Protected Cruiser at the time - to safety at the Giant's Causeway, then proceeded to further overtax himself doing what he could to heal her. This resolve is why Draco is now Lugh's Champion.
  • Heroic Vow: One of Draco's gifts from Lugh is a silver tongue 'sufficient to sway any girl he turns it on into his bed'. In order to acquire it, he had to swear a geas that will destroy his magic and manhood if he knowingly sleeps with anyone but the four girls that he truly loves. Ch Chullain lampshades that will be a very hard oath for Draco to uphold, which Draco privately agrees with after the first time that he uses it on an already very willing Pansy Parkinson in private.
    • One of the key steps in Draco's Character Development and relationship with Ehren is when after she is chosen by the Lakota, the two exchange dangerous secrets that can be potentially used against them by their enemies (her Lakota spiritual name as a Medicine Woman and the exact terms of his geas) in an expression of their growing trust in each other's character.
  • Indy Ploy: With a Formorian that he narrowly escaped on one side, and Abyssals fighting Niobe, Cleo, and Johnston on the other, Draco used an Itching Jinx and Incendio to the giant's buttocks to provoke it into fighting the Abyssals.
  • Jerkass Façade: Even though Draco has more or less buried the hatchet with Harry, he maintains the outward persona of the Pureblood aspiring to become a Death Eater while in public to fool the other Slytherins. This becomes vital when it is revealed that there are hidden Death Eaters in the groups from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, as it makes it possible for Draco and Ehren to expose their identities and plans to Dumbledore.
  • Let's You and Him Fight: Draco's preferred Modus Operandi to operate as the Celtic Champion. He excels at using one villain to frame another (setting Blaise Zabini after Mei Cao and inciting Pansy Parkinson and Kamilla Kozma to fight, or inciting a Formorian to fight some equally hostile Abyssals), or supplying the heroes with enough evidence and well-timed inspiration to take out the villains deniably (infiltrating the Death Eaters to find out their plans for the Second Task of the Triwizard and promptly secretly notifying Dumbledore about them). A large part of the reason for this approach is that while he isn't bad in a fight, he's got far more capable and lethal girlfriends and allies who excel at applying force to fix problems (also getting into a fight can force him to reveal his hole cards unnecessarily).
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: Tom Riddle's ghost really should not have cursed Draco to be conscious when petrified and then gloated to him about how pureblood ideologies were just tools to be used and discarded. Leaving Draco in a state where he had nothing that he could do but think was the icing on the cake for Draco's eventual change of heart.
  • So Proud of You: Said by Lucius to Draco after Lucius watches the memories of how Draco infiltrated Death Eater circles and gained critical intelligence on them with Ehren's help. This causes Draco to blush with pride.
  • Stealth Insult: Told Pansy that she was reminding him of his Aunt Bellatrix. Being who she is, Pansy took it the absolute wrong way.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Before his petrification he was skating by on his money and connections like in canon. Afterward, he got serious about defending his family once he realized that he had to 'get good or get dead' from eneimes that hsi family's wealth and power couldn't protect them from. He's now gotten fit, been Chosen by the Celts as a Champion, has managed to cast a corporeal Patronus a year after Harry Potter managed that, and is learning knife fighting from Ehren while being intensively tutored in wandless and non-Western magic by an experienced Hit Wizard, his parents, and Colombe du Chasteler to acquire multiple hole cards in a fight.
    • The fruits of his training and commitment to self-improvement are seen at the Yule Ball after Cormac insulted Ehren in public and triggered an emotional breakdown in her. Darth Malfoy promptly wandlessly Force Choked Cormac and humiliated him while heading to Ehren's aid. While quoting Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi, no less!
    Draco surveyed Cormac implacably.

He then bit out his words in a terrifying merciless voice that hovered on the verge of losing control of what he was channeling with his passions. "I hope so for your sake, McLaggen. The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am. Deal with him, Nimue Longstreet."

With that Draco released the Force Choke that had been crushing Cormac's windpipe when he regally strode past the other boy.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Originally was in line with how fans tend to portray him. After getting petrified by the basilisk and having his flaws explained to him by Diarymort, combined with meeting Johnston and the others, Draco has improved a great deal. Best seen in his relationship with his cousin Ehren whenever her traumas overwhelm her:note
  • Unintentional Backup Plan: What Draco is to the Celtic Pantheon after their primary (Harry Potter) and then secondary (Neville Longbottom) prospects for the Champion that they need for the pending Age of Heroes are taken from them thanks to Amaterasu and then Loki cashing in IO Us. Lugh lampshades that Draco is the best of a bad lot before choosing him, and later it's admitted that Draco is working out far better as a Champion than they could have legitimately expected for him to (thanks in large part to Draco leveraging his political gifts for deception and manipulation while delegating needed acts of violence to more adept Champions (Neville, Ehren, Harry) in those fields rather than risking himself as well as improving his character dramatically.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Could have fled the Giant's Causeway in the face of a Formorian and Abyssals, but when he saw that the girls he cared about were in trouble, he immediately goaded the giant into attacking the Abyssals.

     Vincent Crabbe
Draoy Malfoy's friend and year mate in Slytherin.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: Is actually much more intelligent than he was in canon, even if he fell for the same drugged muffins in Second Year (in large part to play up his apparent Dumb Muscle status once Goyle grabbed some). It's worth noting that a 15 year old Vince is helping Elspeth learn about Judiasm by teaching her with the complete Vilna Talmud that she bought for him as a gift.
  • Arranged Marriage: Wound up in one with Elspeth Crnokozic of Durmstrang thanks to her needing a husband who can accept her family's Fae pact and him needing a suitable bride to carry on the Crabbe family's legacy. Since the Crabbes & Crnokozics have long-standing business ties, it was a perfect mutual solution to their problems.
  • Beneath the Mask: Both he and Elspeth share the burdens of having to play a public role (Draco's Dumb Muscle loyal follower and the Queen Bitch of Durmstrang) to hide their respective Dark Secret (Vince is a quite intelligent Nice Jewish Boy while Elspeth is a sweet and romantic girl who is also part rusalka and has to give up their firstborn daughter to become the next queen of the local Faerie Court thanks to a family pact). This is foundational to their character arc and relationship, since both can take the masks down around their loved one to explore their hidden sides.
  • Dark Secret: The Crabbe family have secretly been Jewish since the Middle Ages. This is a problem since Hogwarts' current Royal Charter was instituted by King Edward I, who expelled the Jews from England in 1290 and barred Jewish students from being educated at Hogwarts in the Charter. This historical fact becomes relevant for Vince when one of his fellow Slytherins finds out about his religion and relationship with Elspeth and attempts to blackmail him. Additionally, Vince and Elspeth also know many of Draco and Ehren's secrets such as Draco being Celtic Champion, Nimue's true identity as a Malfoy, and Ehren's true identity as an ex-Nazi dagger spirit.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has pulled off a few nasty zingers to fool Kamilla Kozma and Pansy Parkinson while being 'helpful' to them. In private Elspeth and Vince snark back and forth a fair amount as part of their relationship.
  • Deliberate Under-Performance: While he's more than capable of pushing Hermione for top spots academically across the board, Vince instead prefers to place comfortably third to fourth in his classes so as to to draw less attention (rather than have people wonder why such a talented magician Sorted to Slytherin is playing second fiddle to Draco as opposed to chasing his own ambitions). However, he is a genuinely gifted and powerful wizard, who is capable by Fourth Year of casting a Crabbe family variant (which functionally makes the Secret-Keeper be the group consensus of everyone under it which prevents a poorly chosen Secret-Keeper like Peter Pettigrew revealing the secret) of the NEWT-level Fidelius Charm (that was developed for World War II) and also taking down Kamilla Kozma when the Seventh Year witch attacked Elspeth. This is in large part because he was intensively tutored as a boy to work with the Malfoy family and learn the Crabbe family's variant magical spells after manifesting at a very early age and devouring information like a sponge.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Vincent deliberately acts like Dumb Muscle most of the time in public in order to make people underestimate him and also focus on Draco rather than the 'loyal thug' that he and Gregory Goyle are serving as. In reality he is a very cunning wizard who could have potentially been sorted into Ravenclaw when he Hatstalled.note
  • Perfectly Arranged Marriage: Vincent and Elspeth didn't have the best opinions of each other when they learned about the betrothal, but when they met in person during the Triwizard Tournament, it was basically Love at First Sight. Their mutual experiences and acceptance of the other person's secrets during Blaise Zabini's blackmail attempt firmly established their romantic bond. It helped the start of their relationship a lot that Elspeth is quite a looker in person (Vince saw her photo from when she had been hexed by Kamilla Kozma with a Ballooning Charm and Acne Jinx) while Vince unknowingly demonstrated the intelligence, protectiveness, power, and strength of character that Elspeth seeks in a husband when he saved her from Kamilla's ambush upon arrival, even if he looks like a hulking dumb brute looming over her.note
  • Undying Loyalty: Developed this towards his friend Draco. Draco and Ehren dealing with the terrible threat to him, his girlfriend, and his family that Blaise Zabini's blackmail attempt was cemented his reasons to be loyal to Draco. Vince and Draco are shaping up to be very good friends in an extremely formidable team, just like their fathers are. When Draco and Ehren's oldest child Taube arrives at Hogwarts, it's notable that her friend, mentor, and protector in Slytherin is Vince and Elspeth's (second) oldest daughter Rachel Crabbe-Crnokozic one Year ahead of her.

     Gregory Goyle
Draco Malfoy's friend and year mate in Slytherin.

     Cormac McLaggen
A Gryffindor who is one year above Harry Potter
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The foolish member of the McLaggen siblings compared to his four year younger sibling Conrad, who exemplifies many of the best parts of being a Gryffindor.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Even Cormac's fellow Gryffindors really do not care for him at all. This is doubly true after his antics at the Yule Ball (smuggling in illicit alcohol, getting drunk, sexually harassing several girls, and finally getting into and losing a public fight when one of them rejects him) result in discredit to Gryffindor and the loss of enough House Points to drop them from first to last place.
  • Handsome Lech: He certainly believes that he is Hogwarts' gift to the ladies. The ladies disagree.
  • Hormone-Addled Teenager: Deconstructed. Cormac is constantly thinking with his little head, to the point of even being more focused on Professor Sinistra's figure while he's in her class than on her actual lessons, and makes it quite clear that he expects women to automatically bend over for him. As a result, he literally has zero luck finding a single woman who would be interested in him.
  • It's All About Me: Cormac thinks that as the favorite son of a professional Quidditch player and with family ties, he should be getting girls fawning all over him. Unfortunately for him, the massive entitlement issues and raging ego are major killers for Hogwarts' female population. Worse yet, he mistakes Ehren singing passionately to Draco Malfoy as her feelings of devotio and desire toward him instead....
  • Jerkass: Cormac is not a very polite person and believes that he's entitled to the attention of the girls. Best seen when he reacts quite poorly to Ehren's brushoff of him at the Yule Ball.note
  • Jerk Jock: Cormac is also aiming for a position on the Quidditch team. However, that has been torpedoed after his outburst toward Ehren at the Yule Ball. Part of the punishment was a ban from the House Quidditch team.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Thinks he's a big shot due to his family's name going back 500 years and believes he is qualified for a position on the Quidditch team. Not only do other family names such as the Potters, Longbottoms, and Malfoys go back way longer than his, but if canon is any indication about his skill at Quidditch...
  • Teeny Weenie: When he insulted the subgirls Goya and Nimu, Harry responded by shredding McLaggen's pants with a jinx, with the obvious result of being surrounded by beautiful women clearly visible through his boxers. Regina then asked why McLaggen's was so small.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Just like in canon, Cormac is willing to do extremely stupid things like eat Flobberworms on a dare.
  • What's He Got That I Ain't Got?!: Asked this about Harry Potter. The female Gryffindor Chasers said if they started, they'd be there all night.

     Pansy Parkinson
Draco's year-mate in Slytherin. Currently nursing a crush on him that has no chance of being returned.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: Draco's view of her pursuit of him. The packaging is nice, but the "charming" personality is a deal-killer.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: As mentioned above, Pansy has a crush on Draco. However, since he no longer subscribes to the Death Eater ideology and views her personality as a major negative, that crush doesn't have a snowball's chance of being returned.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Took Draco's place in insulting Buckbeak to his face in their first Care of Magical Creatures class. She was lucky that Hermione decided to take the blow for her.
  • Cassandra Truth: Pansy was dead right when she accused Ehren of casting the illusion and setting her up to be caught for her near-lethal prank aimed at Ehren. Unfortunately, Ehren covered her tracks too well by using multiple avatars to do her dirty work while her known one had an iron clad alibi throughout. Ehren managed to beat a dose of truth serum since 'she' didn't do anything that she was asked about (helped by Lucius finessing the questions asked her during the inquiry).
    • Dumbledore, some of Ehren's teachers, and Lucius Malfoy know that Ehren pulled it off. They just don't want to press her on it for their own reasons, instead giving Ehren extra homework and lessons as unofficial punishment.
  • Deal with the Devil: In response to a very public humiliation caused by Ehren, Pansy made a contract with the spirit of a ring passed down through her family line that holds one of the eyes of Ravana. Considering that the souls of the previous three Parkinsons to make that same contract are now bound to the ring in exchange for the power it granted, there is no way this could ‘’“possibly”’’ end badly for Pansy. A snippet set in the future shows that while Pansy does get successfully separated from the ring, the backlash forces her to live in the spiritual equivalent of a Faraday Cage, because her spiritual defenses were left so weak any predator could make easy pickings of her otherwise.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Pansy's motivation for her animus toward Ehren. She views Ehren as a romantic rival for Draco's affections, but is completely and utterly wrong since Ehren is trying to stifle her feelings for Draco to leave him for his shipgirls. Of course in the future, well....
    • Also has a growing feud with Kamilla Kozma, a Dark Witch from Durmstrang who is aggressively pursuing a relationship with Drac. Draco is stringing both along to infiltrate the Death eater circles that they have access to, with the both of them completely unaware that he's using him like the future Magical-James Bond that he's becoming.
  • Loving a Shadow: The main source of the conflict from Pansy is that she has built up an idealized image of Draco from what he was like towards the beginning of the story. He has changed a great deal since then. Part of this is Draco using his Champion powers to deceive Pansy into thinking that he hasn't changed and he's interested in her.
  • Too Stupid To Live: Was the one who insulted Buckbeak to his face in her first Care of Magical Creatures class in this setting, even though Hagrid had warned the class that it is a bad idea to do so. Luckily Hermione, being the loyal RN Shipgirl that she is, was able to shield her.
    • Ignored a blunt warning from Draco and visible warning signs that Ehren was much more competent, mature, and dangerous than she seemed. This led to Pansy's public humiliation and brief suspension when Ehren finally had enough and got revenge.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Now at Hogwarts starting her Fourth Year, she has decided to bully a new Hufflepuff First Year. Unknown to Pansy, said First Year is actually Ehren du Chasteler, who has been blooded in the battle to reseal Verdun, and has a distinct distaste for Nazism in and of itself and also anything resembling the Nazi ideology in any way such as Pansy's pureblood beliefs.
  • Whats She Got That I Ain't Got?: Pansy was convinced that Draco was only interested in the Shipgirls because they have the bodies of mature women and rejoiced when puberty finally kicked in for her (and using her So-Damn-Dark-It-Ain't-Even-Funny Heirloom to give herself a mature body). Then Draco starts paying attention to his flat as a board apparently twelve year old cousin while ignoring her....

     Moira
The spirit of the Hogwarts Express.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: As seen with her first friend, a young boy named Tom Marvolo Riddle who she met on the train shortly after manifesting. Fortunately for her, Tom overlooked the possibilities of her (apart from pumping her for gossip that she overheard) and her second friend Ehren du Chasteler is a much nicer person.
  • Shrinking Violet: She is naturally shy, preferring to blend in her avatar among the students coming and going on the train. Add in her being worried about the gossip she overheard about the impending fall of the Statute of Secrecy, and Ehren had a bit of a chore to talk her down and reassure her fears (it helped a lot that Ehren is provably another item spirit). The friendship of Ehren and Ehren's social circle, aided by the gift of an enchanted railroad conductor's pocketwatch that lets Moira manifest outside her train body to attend the Yule Ball has helped her immensely with her shyness issues.

     Mei Cao
A Chinese student in Slytherin. Two years above Harry and his year mates.
  • Alpha Bitch: By all the various Gods in this fanfic, is she ever! She looks down on all those she considers "inferior" (read: everyone that isn't her).
  • Ascended Meme: Soon after Mei Cao's first appearance, readers started calling her "Mad Cow" due to her vile temperament. This became her In-Series Nickname courtesy of Luna Lovegood and was later used in a prank with a 'Mad Cow Disease' garden gnome.
  • Ax-Crazy: Tends to overreact quite a bit when on the receiving end of a prank, as an incident with a lawn gnome in her likeness revealed.
Mei Cao: "Never question me. I will have my victory over that damnable vixen, rip the knowledge that belongs to her betters from her skull, and perhaps even fuck Potter in front of her in order to break her and perhaps give a powerful heir as I should have. Maybe even making use of his Yang energies as well, before making use of them both as candles."
  • Blatant Lies: Boasts that she is descended from the Chinese hero Cao Cao. No one believes a single word of it.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Her belief that a fox spirit is responsible for Pansy's humiliation. Specifically, she correctly identified the embarrassing illusion of Pansy as the work of a nonhuman caster, and suspects that Natsumi is a concealed fox spirit (Which she is) that will cause trouble for Harry's enemies like Pansy (Which she might do in the future). She's wildly off base as to the identity of the caster (Ehren, who is a German dagger spirit), type of magic used (Japanese jorogumo illusion-weaving), and thinks Natsumi is after Harry's life force for her own evil purposes (Technically it's her Ancestor Tamamo No-Mae's Soul-Echo using Harry's Horcrux Scar as a backdoor to Voldyshorts' fractured soul to make his final days all the more torturous and to nab a few things to help her Reincarnation and the reincarnation of her husband (Harry) out).
  • Fantastic Racism: Like most Magical Taoists, does not believe nonhumans or Westerners are worthy of pursuing Cultivation. Also has a nasty anti-Japanese streak to boot.
  • Not Me This Time: Mei Cao may be a budding dark witch who is all too willing to join the Death Eaters. She may be planning to break Harry Potter's will so she can rape him in front of Natsumi. But she is not responsible for turning Kamilla Kozma into a preta.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Has gone out of her way to bully and harass Natsumi in front of Harry. She has no clue that Natsumi is the reincarnation of one of the most powerful and vicious Chinese and Japanese fox spirits in history in Su Daji and Tamamo no-Mae and has Daji's weapon spirits backing her up.
     Myrtle Warren
A Hogwarts ghost. Previously known to haunt the second floor girl's bathroom.
  • Cool Big Sis: To the younger students at Hogwarts from Harry's Second Year on, where she was the first ghost to actively accompany and escort students between classes to protect them from the basilisk's lethal gaze and now acts as a guide to them to help them navigate the school as well as be there to comfort them if they get homesick.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Myrtle's death decades ago was what helped create the Diary Horcrux. She helped Harry Potter deliver the final blow to said Horcrux.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Delivered one to the Diary Horcrux.
  • See You in Hell: While he might not be capable of going there, Myrtle dropped this trope just before she and Harry finished off the Diary Horcrux.
Simply holding the fang, Harry waited until Myrtle's hands were on his with the ghost looking right at her murderer. "I hope you find Hell nice and warm when you get there, Tom. Now you go there right now!"
  • Tender Tears: After meeting Rose and learning that there was someone who knew her boyfriend, Andrew, she was reduced to this trope.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Tends to spend summers in Japan where she can visit Harry, as well as getting lessons from Tenjin, one if the Three Great Ghosts of Japan. She is slowly becoming more like an Onryo dedicated to guarding the students and can shift at will from her normal form to that of a Yuurei, as well as now packing more power.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: Became much more cheerful after becoming Harry's friend. Took this trope and cuddled it after learning that the man she loved, Andrew Evans, was related to Harry on his mother's side.
     Golden Hind
A pirate shipgirl, and the ship of Sir Francis Drake. Joined to help protect students from the Monster of Slytherin during Harry's Second Year.

     Peeves
The poltergeist of Hogwarts. Currently either exorcised or in such bad shape that it will be decades before he can return.
  • Ambiguous Situation: It is unknown if Peeves was exorcised, or if he was just so badly wounded that he won't return for a long time.
  • The Bully: Was very prone to picking on people. Unlike in canon, this was definitely not Played for Laughs.
  • Would Hurt a Child: As per canon. Attempting to kill Harry Potter by pushing him into the Chamber of Secrets was what finally resulted in steps being taken to remove him permanently.

     Rose Windsor
A Muggleborn witch joining Hogwarts during Harry Potter's Fifth Year.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: Wears corrective glasses for her astigmatsm. Also incredibly adorable and eager.
  • Cute Bookworm: Very cute and quite a bookworm, especially when it comes to her chosen field of architecture or exploring and blueprinting Hogwarts. Later in her life she will publish a definitive architectural study of Hogwarts Castle including detailed hand-drawings of large parts of the castle.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Frequently geeks out and gushes over Hogwarts' medieval stonework at the drop of a hat. Rose has trouble interacting with people, so prefers to take refuge by examining medieval buildings as a defense mechanism.
  • King Incognito: While technically Rose is 'only' high nobility as a first cousin twice removed of Queen Elizabeth II (her grandfather the Duke of Gloucester is the Queen's first cousin) who is approximately 31st in line for the throne, she is downplaying her royal origin by enrolling as the Ravenclaw student 'Rose Ulster' (based on her father's title as Earl of Ulster). Also her beloved corgi Powder who was sent to Hogwarts with Rose is actually the spirit of a WWII Motor Torpedo Boat seconded from the Queen's bodyguards of the Special Corgi Squadron on assignment to keep Rose safe from the Death Eaters.
  • Raised by Grandparents: Her father is a serving military officer on the front lines of the Abyssal War, and her mother is a registered nurse, while her grandfather is the Duke of Gloucester and one of the Queen's advisors and supporters. Therefore, Rose has been primarily raised by her elderly great-grandmother Princess Alice along with nannies and tutors in the relative safety of Kensington Palace.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Is a junior member of the Royal Family studying to become a witch and architect. Sadly, Rose is also well aware that she will likely never work full time as an architect once she inherits the Duchy of Gloucester and the responsibilities that it will bring (just as her architect grandfather did when his older brother died in a plane crash). She's also aware that she will likely wind up serving as a public symbol of British Muggle/Magical integration once she is outed as a witch after the Statute of Secrecy falls. This is also influenced by Rose strongly patterning herself after Princess Alice, who founded and led the women's auxilary arm of the Royal Air Force during the Battle of Britain when it comes to 'finding a useful thing that God has called for her to perform'.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Sorted to Ravenclaw based on her brains and thirst for knowledge, especially when it comes to architecture and history. It's worth noting that the first time we see Rose, she is reading the Roman architect Vitruvius' Ten Books on Architecture for pleasure. In the original Classical Latin, no less. At age eleven.
  • Speech Impediment: Like her great-granduncle King George VI, Rose has a terrible stutter, which does her social skills no favors at all and heavily contributes to her Shrinking Violet tendencies.
  • Stiff Upper Lip: Despite her handicaps to taking social roles, she is well aware that she represents the Royal Family in the eyes of England, and has the ethos of 'service before self' ground into her bones. Notably seen at the funeral of her beloved great-grandmother Princess Alice where Rose has to keep her composure up on national television to mourn her closest family member in solemn dignity as befits a Windsor.

Weasley's Warship Workshop

The cast and crew of the Ron, Warspite and Duke and then the Weasley's Warship Workshop canon side stories.
  • Action Girlfriend: Ron is a, comparatively, normal human being with magic and engineering knowledge. All of his girlfriends have the ability to call down high explosive death on anything within miles of their location and the armor to survive such heading back their way. Given worldwide circumstances their services are in high demand.
  • Amazon Brigade: As has been noted, Ron's requirements for girls to interest him are beautiful, leggy, and come with battleship-grade naval artillery in 355-406mm caliber (14" for Duke to 16" for Brigid) to wreck massive shop in a fight. Blond hair optional. Engineering issues that he can fix for them a must.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: While Ron won't exactly be small when fully grown, he's firmly in "average" territory. Warspite, being the shortest of the group of girls is merely around six feet tall. Duke, Jean Bart and Brigid are all taller and Summer clocks in at roughly nine feet tall. None of them are exactly willowy either.

     Warspite
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/warspite_kantai_collection_drawn_by_baek_hyang__sample_75eeeaeeb5f9bae2defb9114ac78f153.jpg
Warspite
The Queen Elizabeth-class battleship HMS Warspite, Pennant 03. The most decorated ship in English history with no less than seventeen battle honours including her first action at the Battle of Jutland in 1916.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: She hides it very well but Warspite has more than a streak of this. Designed in a time when closing in on the enemy to slug them harder was still the leading naval theory, her nature is only added to by her own history. She's also much more outgoing than the other girls in the fleet, though in an admittedly British manner.
  • Four-Star Badass: The most senior ranking RN Shipgirl on the front lines (only Victory and Dreadnought are more senior) and still enjoys a good scrap.
  • Proper Lady: Like her mother Dreadnought, is elegant, classy, and will bring heavy naval artillery to bear if needed in the service of HM the Queen.
  • Stiff Upper Lip: Outnumbered 4:2 and caught in a crossfire by Abyssal battleships in the Channel? Raise Nelson's 'engage the enemy more closely' signal and nail it to the mast.
  • Super-Toughness: Shipgirls run on their Legend as much as their hulls. For Warspite, her Legend makes her nearly unsinkable (The historical ship survived being focus fired by half the High Seas Fleet's dreadnoughts when her rudders jammed at Jutland in her first combat, being torpedoed, mined, hit with bombs, hit with a Fritz-X guided missile that blew a hole from her deck clean to her keel, and finally snapped the tow cables when she was being sent to the breakers to hit a rock instead ''so she could go out on her terms''). While she feels the pain of her wounds (before Ron fixed her), and will get the tar beat out of her in a fight, at the end of the day the Grand Old Lady will stagger and limp back to port from any fight she gets into and her opponents won't.
  • Wound That Will Not Heal: Needed a wheelchair or a cane to move on land thanks to damage lingering from the Battle of Jutland. Later averted, as Ron was able to heal all of her old war wounds.

     Duke of York
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/uqlq1ss_6.jpg
Duke of York
The King George V-class battleship HMS Duke of York, Pennant 17. Launched shortly after the beginning of the Second World War.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Duke was very much focused on being a battleship instead of a person when she came back during Blood Week. This lead to her being socially isolated until Warspite and her sister ships helped pull her out of said isolation. Being introduced to Ron accelerated and helped finish the process.
  • Frontline General: Overlaps with Four-Star Badass. As a Royal Navy shipgirl admiral junior to Warspite, she tends to get more active command assignments than her superiors. Seen most notably at Saint Kitts where she led the primary battleship striking force and got into hand-to-hand combat with the bulk of the Abyssal fleet elements to help Hold the Line while waiting for Pennsylvania's task force to arrive.
  • Gentlewoman Snarker: While a Proper English Lady, Duke certainly has her moments when she deploys a wit as sharp as her sword, such as this exchange with Ron.
    “Duke?”

    “Yes?”

“Is that who I think it is?”

"Who do you think it is?”

Ron glanced over at Duke ,who had a smile worthy of Warspite on her face.

“I think that’s the bloody Queen of England!”

Duke just continued grinning. "Then yes, it’s who you think it is.”
  • Lady of War: Duke is a quintessential example, carrying a sword on her at most times despite having ten 14'' cannons to call upon at any time. She's also quite the lady when called upon, much more comfortable in somewhat regimented scenarios than expressing her own emotions at times. She also enjoys 'a spot of swordplay' with her knight's blade.
  • Last Stand: Narrowly averted with her Task Force at Saint Kitts when she got hit by the bulk of the Abyssal Fleet. Duke afterward is upset with herself for being pinned down and nearly overrun at Point Rorke's Drift.
  • The Stoic: Duke's combat persona as seen at Saint Kitts. In part this is to prevent a fatal loss of confidence in her control of the rapidly deteriorating situation.
Over her radio, she heard a frantic radio transmission from USS Maine.

    "Fires uncontrollabl—-"

A cataclysmic magazine explosion silenced the voice of BB-69.

Throughout, Duke's controlled expression never wavered.

Only the tightening of her hand on the hilt of her blood-dripping sword betrayed her emotions.

Her calm and commanding voice rang out loud and clear over the radio.

"Come about to Zero six zero and form up." She then flipped channels as she sought out the next target for her guns. "Pennsylvania, it's time."
  • Wound That Will Not Heal: Has trouble with her quadruple 14" turrets jamming because of their technological complexity.

     Jean Bart
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jean_bart_azur_lane_drawn_by_ask_askzy__sample_d716d5ab548992af7d392fa51f543293.jpg
Jean Bart with a completed rig
Spirit of the last battleship ever built and commissioned. Currently running convoy escort missions while incomplete.
  • Cheese-Eating Surrender Monkeys: Completely and utterly subverted by Jean Bart. She hearkens to the glorious French history of victory in warfare under Napoleon Bonaparte and Foch and has elan in spades.
  • Cool Bike: Jean Bart has a BMW S1000RR she bought and uses regularly to transport herself anywhere not on water.
  • Handicapped Badass: She came back in the half-completed state that she was in at the Battle of Casablanca in 1942. So she only has one of her two main gun turrets, her fire control is jury-rigged, and she only has half her boilers installed. She still saved Casablanca when she came back in a brutal knife fight inside the harbor that sank the Abyssal attackers.
    • Currently no longer handicapped after Ron finished her construction, including magical improvements to her boilers and guns.
  • Hot-Blooded: Very much wants to prove herself as one of the best battleships ever built. Is eagerly looking forward to the day when Ron Weasley completes her construction using the magic that he has developed so she can fight at full strength.
  • Jumped at the Call: She was offered the choice to come back early and incomplete to save Casablanca, or wait and return at full power. She did not hesitate for a moment to get into the fight immediately.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Of all the girls, Jean Bart is most noticeable for her height/legs aside from Summer, who is absolutely gigantic. The Richelieu class being nearly 70' longer than the KGV class and Brigid (who is roughly an Iowa class), being more well rounded.
  • When She Smiles: While all ship girls are near supernaturally attractive, Jean Bart is usually seen looking less than pleased or at best very focused. When she does smile, it's almost always remarked on.

     "Summer"
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/seaport_summer_hime_kantai_collection_drawn_by_walzrj__db6a1f3e9020254b0a7e271d5d0237bb.jpg
Summer. Not pictured, everyone is smaller than her
The Spirit of an Abyssal Installation who Ron Weasley found and befriended.

     Brigid
A damaged Abyssal Battleship Princess who is in custody at Passel House
  • Becoming the Mask: How she is slowly joining Team Weasley. Her surface change of attitude is being rewarded with better meals and books from the house library.
  • The Fettered: After her capture, Brigid was demilitarized by Summer, rendering her guns inoperative
  • Handicapped Badass: In the fight where she was captured, she fought off a swarm of Dememtors, and then took a torpedo that cracked her keel. For a while she was stuck in a wheelchair and only recently has gotten repaired to the point of being able to walk. As for the badass part, she is an Abyssal Battleship Princess.
  • Mugging the Monster: Brigid's old escape plan involved coercing Summer to fix her so she could make a run for it. That plan is hastily getting revised to persuading Ron to order Summer to fix her after Summer made it clear that she would prefer to scrap Brigid for threatening Ron. Of course, it would help if Brigid had a clue on how to persuade Ron.
  • Oh, Crap!: Her reaction when Summer yanked her out of her wheelchair one-handed after Brigid threatened Ron. Brigid is now terrified of Summer's feelings toward Ron after Summer explained graphically what would happen if she hurt Ron.

     Isabella Morandi
A Part-Veela Italian witch from Beauxbatons who falls for Ron during Fourth Year. Also, unknown to her, the Natural-Born shipgirl of the incomplete Italian battleship Imperio.

  • Dance of Romance: Tries and spectacularly fails this with Ron. Isabella pulls out a red dress that is notorious in Beauxbatons for causing students to walk into walls and wears it to tango with him in a dance lesson. Ron just raises an eyebrow even when she turns the Allure full blast on him during their dance. Isabella is beside herself afterward and screaming into her pillow, much to her friend Fleur's amusement.
  • Hot-Blooded: Fiery, passionate, vivacious, and utterly living her life to the fullest.
  • Lady of War: The current captain of the Beauxbatons sword dueling club and able to give Colombe (one of her idols) a good spar.
  • Rambunctious Italian: She's passionate, emotional, loud, and tends to wildly gesture. Especially when Ron misses her interest in him.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Her initial motivation for becoming interested in Ron. Thanks to her Veela heritage giving her Allure, she looks for a man who has the self-control to master himself and his passions rather than pursue her for her looks. It helps that Ron is genuinely clueless for a while that she is falling hard for him.
  • Teacher/Student Romance: Ron hires her to help tutor him in French so he can speak it with Jean Bart. This turns into tutoring Ron in French, Italian, swordplay, and dancing, and later into full-bore romance. Ron's work ethic, mature attitude, and thirst for knowledge (and the passion he throws into his work) is noted as being incredibly attractive to her.

     Victoria Passel
The manifested spirit of Passel House, which Ron buys to establish as a Royal Navy auxiliary repair and refit base along with being the home of his future family.
  • British Stuffiness: She holds many Victorian sensibilities of proper behavior.
  • Deadpan Snarker: In her very dry British Understatement way. For instance, her discussing setting up and then watching the Brigid/Summer confrontation that resulted in Brigid mortally terrified of Summer.note
  • Genius Loci: She is the house and grounds of Ron's property and is aware of everything that happens there.
  • Good Old Ways: Awakened in the early 1900s and is helping subtly train Ron into a perfect Victorian gentleman.
  • Irrational Hatred: Thanks to Colombe visiting her house in 1899 for a dinner party turned Dumpsterfire and then Jean Bart showing up in short shorts, her Edwardian prejudices against the French as licentious decadent Continental perverts were "proven correct".
  • The Jeeves: Appears as a head chambermaid dressed in a Edwardian Maid's uniform, and is the perfect domestic servant. Can manage the whole house by herself, but is happy to have some domestic assistance with the gardens.
  • Old Retainer: Has been manifest for a century or so and has plans to be this for Ron's family.
  • Politeness Judo: Her preferred method of managing the household and Ron while she trains them up to be proper British country squires.
  • Values Dissonance: Victoria has the values common for her youth in the Victorian and Edwardian era. This is a problem since France was the historical British rival, and hatred between the two countries ran deep until World War One. While she is not a bad person, Jean Bart and Colombe have both accidentally pushed her Berserk Button about "scandalous behavior" pretty hard.
     Fleet of Flowers
Summer's small but growing fleet of Abyssals she has been authorized to build by the Royal Navy. Currently stands at six members.

  • Always Identical Twins: Summer never builds one of any ship, following the idea that if one is good two is better. All pairs look alike, though we've yet to see if multiple pairs of the same ship type may differ.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: In the form of hair clips to distinguish the girls. Usually flower based.
  • Mundane Utility: Since Passel House doesn't have fires regularly, Flora and Fortuna are most likely to be found watering the grounds under direction of Xath. Daisy and Dahlia are similarly likely to be found using their strength to lift things for Lara or Victoria instead of pushing ships around.
  • Theme Twin Naming: In full effect, with the majority being flowers. Daisy and Dahlia, Flora and Fortuna, Goldenrod and Gladiolus.
  • Twin Banter: Relevant to all of her girls but most seen in Flora and Fortuna, the fireboat twins. They can chatter back and forth in full firefighting respirators without an issue.

Ship of Fools

The cast of the Ship of Fools canon side-stories as written by frequent contributor MagisterAurelius

Apply to the Malfoy family as a whole:

  • Ambition is Evil: As befits the canon characters, they are all ambitious nobles.
  • Anti-Villain: That said, they do want the muggle and magical worlds to defeat Voldemort and other threats to humanity... so long as they wind up near the top of the pyramid when the dust settles.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil: Leaders of a faction of pureblood noble wizards, although they tend to Pragmatic Villainy in their actions.
  • Blue Blood: A member of the Sacred 28 Pureblood family register, although they are pragmatic about marrying outside immediate relatives to allow "fresh blood" into the family tree.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: The Malfoys really do care for each other and accept their Franco-Belgian cousins in the du Chastelers after making contact.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: The Malfoy family's creed is that 'family looks after family' and they follow that. In addition, Lucius is horrified by Voldemort's plans to turn secondborn children of his followers into Obscurials, leading to him distancing himself from Voldemort when Narcissa is pregnant with his firstborn and putting his Secondborn into hiding on the other side of the Atlantic under the protection of a trusted associate tasked with making sure she can protect herself.
  • Fiction 500: One of the richest wizarding families who have also made discreet investments in muggle industries for when the Statute of Secrecy crashes. Currently they are preparing to ride out the inevitable reveal.
  • Heel–Face Turn: All of them are going through this to some extent thanks to their love for each other and their family.
  • Plenty of Blondes: All of the cast without exception are blonde ranging from peach/strawberry (Johnston) to platinum/silver (Niobe)
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Very well connected in magical England and looking to expand their influence outside Magical England.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: Also very wealthy from their legitimate and otherwise business interests.
  • Token Evil Teammate: To Arthur Weasley, Albus Dumbledore, Amelia Bones, and Augusta Longbottom in their long-standing attempts to prevent Dolores Umbridge (often referred to by the commenters as the Fan-Favorite Nickname for her) from causing major problems with her influence over Minister of Magic Fudge.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Despite being a dark shade of gray and escaping imprisonment for supporting Voldemort on a technicality, the Malfoys are highly respected (and feared) members of society.

     Draco Malfoy
See: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

     Lucius Malfoy
Draco's father and head of the Malfoy family.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: Lucius is warned off his schemes to get revenge on Harry Potter by Revina the Re-class Abyssal. Since Re-class are able to fight off dozens of human wizards at a time and she makes it clear that any harm to Harry will result in her letting her [1] loose on him and his with no regard for his money or connections, Lucius takes the warning to heart. Also he is terrified of his wife Narcissa.
  • The Chessmaster: Plays his schemes of power with and against Dolores Umbridge, Colombe du Chasteler, Albus Dumbledore, and Lord Voldemort. Is gathering allies and support for fighting Voldemort when the Dark lord returns.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has his moments, like commenting that Japan's Political Nundu would make a better Minister of Magic than Cornelius Fudge.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Was disgusted both at Walden MacNair hunting humans, including fellow Purebloods, and at the way MacNair clearly liked to draw it out instead of quickly killing his prey.
  • Luxurious Liquor: Is very proud of his collection of fine brandies and whiskies. One of the foundations of his relationship with Colombe is their shared interest in rare brandies.
  • Man of Wealth and Taste: Immaculately dressed to impress his peers and allies.
  • Papa Wolf: Toward his children. His Black wife (not in the Racial sense, but in the Harry Potter sense) does not need his protection.
  • Trauma Button: Played for Laughs. Something that Lily Potter did during the First Blood War back in Amsterdam left Lucius with a paralytic fear of clogs.
Draco and Nimue's jaws dropped as Lucius Malfoy, their father, shrieked like a little girl, began to do a strange hopping dance that involved clapping his hands together pat-a-cake, chanting a series of nonsensical phrases and inflicting a double titty-twister on himself.

"AAAAHHHH! Hot potato, off his drawers, pluck to make amends. OWWWW.."
  • Unholy Matrimony: With Narcissa and he wouldn't have it any other way.

     Narcissa Malfoy
Draco's mother who married in from the House of Black
  • Mama Bear: Oh so very much yes. She wants the best for her children and is incredibly protective of them.
  • Man of Wealth and Taste: Nearly maxes out Lucius's $100,000 limit credit card at Harrods buying clothes and jewelry for Draco, herself, Draco's girlfriends and Ehren du Chasteler. This includes a $24,000 egg-sized opal Faberge pendant for herself.
  • Unholy Matrimony: With Lucius and she wouldn't have it any other way.

     Johnston
The spirit of the Fletcher-class destroyer USS Johnston (DD-557). Draco's first haremette.

     Washington
The spirit of the Colorado-class battleship USS Washington (BB-47)
  • The Consigliere: Serves this role for Draco.
  • Handicapped Badass: Because she was sunk as a gunnery target in 1922 as a result of the Washington Naval Treaty, she came back without all of her main guns.
  • The Unfavorite: To the United States Navy. Other ships were summoned to fight the abyssals, but she was not called for until Draco summoned her to give her a chance to prove herself. Even her name was reused for the North Carolina-class USS Washington (BB-56).
  • Undying Loyalty: To Draco for allowing her to finally serve as more than a floating target to be used for weapons tests.

     Cleopatra
The spirit of the Dido-class light cruiser HMS Cleopatra (33). Draco's second haremette.
  • Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: The Beauty and diplomat of the ShipGirlfriend Trio.
  • Berserk Button: Her relationship with Draco is this to her sister HMS Hermione Granger. While the two do reconcile, Hermione frequently grumps about "Cleo's questionable taste in men".
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Spacy, sweet, innocent... and British flagship at the Second Battle of Sirte where her escort squadron fought off a superior Italian force. She has 10 5.25" DP guns and additional antiaircraft weapons for days.
    • Was awarded the second highest English decoration for valor during Operation UNDERTOW when she shot it out and won versus two battleships during the battle in San Bernadino Strait... after embarassing her sister Black Prince with an 'innocent' question about Black Prince's relationship with her boyfriend to break the tension as they sailed into a desperate close-range fight.
She steered closer to Black Prince. "Hey Prince...?"

Black Prince glanced over. "What is it, Cleo?"

"Visibility's going to be terrible in there and RUMINT says that Jerry's fighting hand to hand in Surigao...." Cleo began.

"Yeah, what of it?" Black Prince replied brusquely as she cracked her knuckles.

"Well can I borrow your whips and chains if you brought any from the basement of your flat? If you aren't going to be using them today since Roger the Firefighter Boyfriend's not here and I could use a weapon to fight with...." Cleo began in a wheedling voice while fluttering her eyelashes at Black Prince.

Her sister ship turned pale and then blushed redder than her hair while HMS Gloucester began to snicker, the destroyers giggled and whispered, and HMS Prince of Wales developed a suspicious cough from her entirely-too-calm face.
  • D-Cup Distress: Like all the other Dido-class cruisers, Cleo is extremely busty. She views this as a minor negative thanks to past problems finding a good man before meeting Draco, and the example of Sirius' topweight issues.
  • The Ditz: Seen as this to her sixteen other sisters, thanks to tending to overtly display less intelligence than they do. That said, she has some serious Hidden Depths under the apparent innocent facade, especially related to her trauma from losing four sisters during the Second World War, especially HMS Hermione being sunk in front of her during 1942, resulting in Cleo crafting her ditz persona so she wouldn't have to take responsibility for another failure of her leadership killing a sister.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: A Sanguine ditzy sweetheart who thinks the best of everyone around her, albeit with some hidden depths.
  • Freudian Trio: The Ego of the three Shipgirlfriends, and by far the most sociable of them.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Gold haired, blue eyed, and a sweet and innocent girl.

     Niobe
The spirit of the Gazelle-class protected cruiser SMS Niobe. Draco's third haremette.
  • Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: The veteran and experienced Brains of the ShipGirlfriend Trio.
  • Breast Expansion: Getting fully modernized for Operation TOHO involved, among other upgrades, torpedo bulges, giving Niobe a whole extra cup size and some centimeters.
  • Can't Refuse the Call Anymore: Had no other choice but to be modernized for Operation TOHO.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: A Phlegmatic aristocratic lady who has surprising hidden depths under the elegance and grace.
  • Freudian Trio: The analytical Superego of the three shipgirlfriends.
  • My Greatest Failure: Being seen as worthless when the High Seas Fleet went out to the Battle of Jutland. Losing her sister Frauenlob there cemented it in her mind.
  • Obfuscating Disability: Following the Statute-shattering battle against Gougou, Niobe has been acting like her injuries left her permanently crippled, ensuring that the Death Eaters will underestimate her.
  • Refusal of the Call: Turned down a spot in IRON MAIDEN, a plan to modernize older shipgirls, due to being so old that the attempt would not be enough to get her to the current Abyssal level of technology. Draco overexerting himself to save her at the Giant's Causeway cemented this in her mind.
  • Sole Survivor: Of her class of cruisers. Three of her then-obsolete sisters were sunk in action during World War One and all the rest but her were scuttled or scrapped thanks to the Treaty of Versailles. She soldiered on as a coastal defense ship for Germany, then Yugoslavia and Italy until being sunk in 1943.
  • Work Hard, Play Hard: Is very affectionate toward her 'Darling' and a very hard worker.

     Nimue Longstreet/Malfoy
Draco's fraternal (evil) twin sister who was raised apart fromt he Malfoy Family for her own protection.
  • Country Mouse: Raised in small-town Idaho by adoptive parents for the first 14 years of her life.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She has her moments and gets enjoyment with running commentary on her big brother's romantic entanglements and wizarding society.
  • Half-Identical Twins: With her minutes-older brother Draco. While not actually totally identical, the siblings are close enough in body type, hair & eye color, and voice tone that a set of Ehren's illusions allow the Malfoys to fool Hogwarts students and staff.
  • Hidden Backup Prince: Draco's younger fraternal twin sister who was raised by one of Lucius's allies in America to keep her away from Voldemort's plan to turn her into an Obscurial.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: This hayseed small town cheerleader was trained in wandless magic by a top-tier Hit Wizard and plans to be a Classy Cat-Burglar tweaking the nose of Dark Wizards worldwide.
  • Separated at Birth: Was promptly taken to be raised by someone Lucius trusted after she was born, specifically because he wanted to ensure she would not get caught up in the Blood War.
  • Shipper on Deck: Pushes the Ehren/Draco ship very hard because 'Ehren would make a totally awesome sister-in-law' while viewing her brother as a Clueless Chick-Magnet.
  • Tomboy: She grew up in the country and likes to hunt and fish as well as being a cheerleader for her high school.
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: To Draco Malfoy until puberty kicks in. Especially obvious when she borrows his clothes or when Ehren throws a few illusions on her to hide her modest bosom.

     Ehren du Chasteler
See Du Chasteler Family/Butterknife Bastards

     Murglais
The sword spirit of the Blade of Ganelon, one of Charlemagne's Twelve Paladins. He has a relic of Saint Dismas, the Repetant Thief in his hilt.
  • Cassandra Truth: What eventually got him locked up in his box in the basement of the French Malfoy estate before World War II until Nimue uncovered him while inventorying the items the Britsh Malfoys acquired postwar. You see, he argued strenuously that the French Malfoys plans to ally with Grindelwald and Hitler wasn't a very good idea.... Fortunately for all concerned, Lucius is a much smarter and wiser Head of the Family to work for, and therefore quite willing to listen to his advice in the spirit that it is given.
  • Devil's Advocate: His primary role for the Malfoy Family is to provide good (if frequently unpleasant to hear) advice to them to avoid foreseeable pitfalls in their plans. Unfortunately, he was too good for the job....
  • The Fettered: Is bound to the service of the Malfoys (who are Ganelon's descendants) by several binding magical oaths and enchantments to their bloodline.
  • The Gadfly: Is an incredibly snarky, cynical, and massive troll whose habitual attitude is bext exemplified by the slogan on one of his favorite T-shirts: 'Sarcasm Is One Of The Services I Offer'.
  • Oh, Crap!: His realization that one of Curtana's 'brothers' had met Ehren since Ganelon was responsible (over Murglais' objections at the time) for the betrayal and death of Durandel's owner and Master Roland. Fortunately for him, it was Joyeuse instead, who he gets along reasonably well with as an advisor to the Sword of Charlemagne.
  • The Snark Knight: Thanks to over a millennia of handling crises and political machinations for the Malfoy family, has 'seen it all' and is very snarky indeed about whatever is going on. He is secretly impressed — not that he would dare admit it openly — by the skills and potential of the current crop of British Malfoys.
"In your own words, give me your analysis of Lady du Chasteler with an emphasis on the pros and cons of her marrying my son Draco to join the branches of the House of Malfoy." Lucius commanded.

Murglais frowned and rubbed his beard. "I shall warn you that this is preliminary and incomplete, since I have had only one interaction with the du Chasteler girl and none yet with your son Draco save what Lady Nimue remarked upon in passing. I don't have enough data to construct anything close to a profile for his strengths and weaknesses and an incomplete profile for her. Also, I'm not currently versed on the status of the du Chasteler family in the last ninety years or so in terms of their assets, allies, family structure and the like. I know that Ehren is Heiress and that her mother is Colombe du Chasteler, but little more."

Lucius nodded with his face impassive. "The caveats aside, your thoughts?"

"On the surface, the du Chasteler girl would be a net major asset to the Family. Highly intelligent, politically astute, beautiful, magically capable — including some spell traditions I am not familiar with — and apparently infatuated with your son. I'm not sure of the mechanism of her feelings toward Lord Draco, whether they are natural or magically induced by him or a third party, but she has it bad for him, as it is." Murglais frowned as he spoke slowly. "That said, there are some hidden dangers in any such match between Ehren and Draco. Her mother Colombe du Chasteler is one of the most irritatingly 'honorable' and self-righteous individuals I have had the displeasure of knowing. That hotheaded loose cannon is a complete disaster when it comes to more pragmatic and sober considerations as opposed to jumping in rashly to ignite the swamp gas in a midden to explode dung everywhere!"

Lucius cracked a small smile. "I'm aware of Cousin du Chasteler's 'honor before reason' impulses and her rather checkered career. I'll ask you more about the mother soon, but for now, the daughter."

"Yes, the daughter." Murglais rubbed his beard again. "Ehren seems to have an equally strong internal code of conduct which would interfere with certain activities that the Family has traditionally used to get ahead at times. Worse yet, she's smart enough and capable enough so that she won't be distracted by a few babies or a new dress to prevent her digging into any less-than-ethical actions that Lord Draco might be planning. If she found out... she is her mother's daughter with all that implies."

Lucius' face could have been carved from marble for all that it revealed of his thoughts on Murglais' analysis.

"Finally..." Murglais took a deep breath and blew it out. "Ehren's not exactly human, much less pureblood human. She's at least in part the spirit of an enchanted weapon such as I am; I'm pretty sure that she's a dagger spirit in fact. That's a rather large potential scandal to cover up since we pride ourselves on purity of blood as part of our standing. It's not impossible, though, since there's been the odd half-Veela child and the like inheriting secretly before. As well, as I said, I don't know what if anything that the du Chastelers would bring to the table as her dowry. Save that if your plan for her is to have Draco enthrall and wed the girl and then kill the mother so Ehren inherits, my advice is don't! Colombe du Chasteler is extremely powerful, perhaps a match for me or another of the Twelve in battle. Worse yet, du Chasteler is damnably difficult to kill — believe me, I and my owners tried in 1791, 1823, and then again in 1871 when she caused us difficulties. Worst of all, she's an obnoxiously vicious and persistent deadly little bitch in a vendetta who doesn't believe in subtlety or collateral damage being a thing. The last I knew, Colombe was sleeping with the head of the British Potter Family and his wife so she has powerful allies there too."

Lucius cracked a smile. "Fortunately, Cousin du Chasteler is an ally of convenience these days, and I'm aware of Ehren's heritage and the source of her feelings for Draco. I shall be instructing you to keep Ehren's little secrets and our political alignment with the du Chastelers in confidence from all save the three of us, Ehren, Draco, and Colombe." He waved to the sword spirit. "Go ahead, take a seat and get some tea to lubricate your throat. Next, tell me about yourself...."
  • Token Evil Teammate: Ganelon was the 'dirty business' specialist of the Paladins who handled the dishonorable but necessary tasks for Charlemagne such as removing dangerous political enemies. Murglais served this role in a sense for the French Malfoys, then after their destruction in World War II, now serves the British Malfoys as the senior surviving bloodline (since Lucius's paternal grandmother was the sister of the then-Heir to the French line).

Royal Navy

     Victory

     Dreadnought
Serves as Secretary ship (and secret lover) of the First Sea Lord. The first modern battleship.
  • The Dreaded Dreadnought: The Ship that named the Tropes Herself. Despite her relative obsolescence, she can punch will above her weight, as some Abyssal battleships found out the hard way while attacking Britain.
  • Proper Lady: Pick pretty much any sub-trope from the list, it likely applies to Dreadnought, Mother of All Modern Battleships.
  • Retired Badass: Just like in history, has retired to shore-side duties to let her more modern daughters take the fight to the Abyssals. Still does not change the fact that she has ten 12" naval guns and shortly after Blood Week wrecked two Abyssal battleships that on paper vastly outclassed her.

     Hood
The Mighty Battlecruiser Hood, pride of the Royal Navy.

     Ark Royal
The carrier famous for crippling Bismarck, now frequently trying to prank her old target, though often with little success.
  • Butt-Monkey: Whenever U-81 is around, the submarine that sank her.
  • Running Gag: Always tries to prank Bismarck. Emphasis on Try.

     Queen Elizabeth (00)
Nameship of the Queen Elizabeth-class battleships, big sister of Warspite

The Arthurian Relics

Weapons from the time of King Arthur Pendragon.

The Relics as a whole:

  • Animate Inanimate Object: All of them are really the weapons that they carry who are projecting an avatar to interact with the world.
  • Badass Crew: Being formerly owned by King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, all of the Relics are top tier badasses, especially in their area of expertise.
  • Break Out the Museum Piece: Likewise, all of their true bodies are centuries old, many of whom were crafted by legendary weapon-smiths.
  • Really 700 Years Old: All their avatars look much younger than they actually are.

     Prydwen
The shield of King Arthur. After manifesting, was granted a Shipgirl form from the spirit of Camelot and given a mission to unite the rest of the Relics for King Arthur's prophesied return. However, Camelot was so insane, it was a few steps away from being just like an Abyssal, and Prydwen's quest caused far more problems than it solved.
  • Expy: Of Artoria Lancer. Although since Lartoria Pendragon wasn't a thing at the time, it'd be more exact to call her an Expy of Saber if she was allowed to mature fully before taking up Caliburn, Avalon, adn later Excalibur.
  • Hero of Another Story: Of the The Once And Future Ship sidestories by Azzaciel. For a given value of hero...
  • Jumped at the Call: Like any good knight (albeit she can't exactly be called that taking what happened as a result of her quest into consideration), she was all too eager to accept the quest to gather the Arthurian Relics.
  • Kleptomaniac Hero: Explicitly called such.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Did not take it well learning that her quest ensured Arthur's kingdom would not survive, she almost killed her own brother, and as a direct result of her actions, Carnwennen's Albino Waifu was killed.
  • Motor Mouth: When she's drunk.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: In a very short amount of time, undid everything that Carnwennen had done to ensure that Briton would survive after King Arthur's death. Also pushed multiple species of magical animals to extinction, just because Merlin's fairy wanted some reagents in case he needed to brew certain potions.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: Finishing a dragon with a suplex.

     Carnwennen
The dagger of King Arthur.

See The Potter Armory for tropes about Carnwennen.

     Avalon
The mystical sheath of Excalibur, able to heal even the most grievous wounds that her bearer receives.

     Clarent
The sword of Mordred Pendragon.
  • Expy: Of Mordred Pendragon.
  • Hidden Depths: In spite of her rough-and-tumble attitude, showed that she was proud of Carnwennen's efforts to protect Arthur's legacy, in spite of the final outcome.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Is easily one of the most foul-mouthed members of the Arthurian Relics.

The Longbottom Family

Neville Longbottom's girlfriends and living family
  • Badass Family: One and all, and it runs in the blood too going all the way back to their heritage descended from the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons.
  • The Berserker: It runs in the family, although the 'Old Blood' is generally under control. When it is allowed to cut loose, watch out!
  • Blood Knight: Very very much so for the Longbottoms.
  • Pre Ass Kicking One Liner: House Longbottom's battle cry: A LONGBOTTOM HO! Also they have been known to declaim Anglo-Saxon heroic poetry such as Beowulf or The Battle of Maldon in a fight while berserking.

     Neville Longbottom
See: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

     Augusta Longbottom
The matriarch of the Longbottom family.
  • Berserk Button: Barty Crouch Jr. Hearing Arthur Weasley suggest that he might still be alive really made her angry. Went into a Tranquil Fury upon learning that he was indeed still alive.
  • Never Mess with Granny: Is just as formidable as she was in her youth.

     Pauline 'Pippy' Longbottom nee Parkinson
The current matriarch of House Longbottom. Augusta Longbottom's mother, Neville Longbottom's great-grandmother, Pansy Parkinson's great-grandaunt. Currently 120 years young and still marching to the beat of her own drum.

  • Cool Old Lady: Pippy is down to earth and very informal to her friends and family while living life to the fullest and relishing every moment of it. Also she clearly deeply loves her family and encourages them to do their best.
  • The Dreaded: Among those who know her or know of her, she is seen as a natural disaster looking for a good place to set up shop. When she walked into St. Mungos to visit her grandson, the senior staff present got pale and quiet because Pippy was back in the UK.
  • Hunter of Monsters: Has been tracking down and killing dangerous creatures threatening humanity since she was a Gryffindor student in Hogwarts.
  • In Harm's Way: Very much so her whole life. Pippy does not feel alive unless she is surfing the razor edge of life-or-death danger.
  • Lady of Adventure: Her whole life in a nutshell. Fought in the first World War, the Second World War, and has killed (in no order) a Scandanavian sea demon, elephants, mokele-mbembe, a Scandanavian Mountain Troll (that broke half her ribs when it threw her through a stone wall during World War II), a Library Springer (a creature that put up a good fight against a pair of shipgirls) at 14, and when first seen on screen is just back from the Amazon after finally killing a 150 foot long extremely deadly Basilisk so it can be mounted in the Longbottom Trophy Room.
  • Nerves of Steel: Considering her career as a killer of dangerous creatures and survivor of dangerous situations, Pippy is nigh-unshakable in a crisis and in fact relishes the arenaline rush of being in mortal danger.
  • Never Mess with Granny: And how! Very very few Dark Creatures or Dark Wizards have fought Pippy and lived to tell the tale afterward, despite the fact she doesn't even weigh 150 pounds soaking wet.
  • Old Master: She killed her first Library Springer at the tender young age of 14. 106 years later she's still looking for the biggest challenge she can find to overcome. She's easily on a par with other top-tier asskickers such as Dumbledore, Voldemort, or many powerful weapons spirits for deadliness.
     Lillian 'Lily' Moon
Neville's friend and fellow Gryffindor classmate from the Orkney Islands, who is shaping up to be a whole lot more than meets the eye. In the same Year As Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and the rest of the canon Harry Potter cast.
  • Ascended Extra: In Harry Potter canon, she only appears as one of the names that are called in the scene where Harry was Sorted to Gryffindor. Here, she has a much greater role to play in Neville's arc as the Norse Champion.
  • Blue Blood: Descended from Light Elven and Dark Elven nobility, and nominally in line to be Earl of Orkney (her grandmother's human spouse Sigurd the Mighty consolidated the Norse hold on Orkney in 875-892).
  • Damsel in Distress: Is targeted for 'retrieval' by her maternal grandfather, who is a Dark Elven warlord and jarl from Svartalfheimr (that raped her grandmother during the Viking Age). Fortunately for her, her boyfriend is quite good in a fight.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Half human on her father's side, her maternal line is Norse Elf nobility through both grandparents. Although she seems to be favoring the elven side of her heritage much more.
  • Immortality Begins at Twenty: Currently 98 years old and looks like a fairly mature 15 year old teenager. Part of this is her disguise glamour that helps conceal her pointed ears and literally inhuman beauty, although she actually is physically a late-teenager.
  • Mystical Waif: Neville was ordered by Tyr and Odin to 'protect the Valknut'. Then he noticed his classmate wearing a bathing suit with said Valknut at a pool party right before one of her Grandfather's Huntsmen attempted to kidnap her....
    • Also has had uncontrollable momentary trances where the Norns apparently speak through her.
  • Parental Abandonment: Her father was Major Harvey, Royal Marines, who won the Victoria Cross at Jutland several months after fathering her in a One-Night-Stand Pregnancy. Then her mother died Sometime between World War One and World War Two. Fortunately for Lily, her father's back in her life as a faerie on board the shipgirl of HMS Lion and her grandmother has done a good job as her surrogate parent.
  • Parental Substitute: Her grandmother, who has ruled their small clan of elven refugees hidden on the Orkneys for centuries.
  • Proportional Aging: Norse Elf lifespans are well over 900 years (her grandmopther is still kicking at 1200+, although visibly aged). Even though Lily was born in 1916, she is only now viewed as anything more than a child in their culture... at the ripe age of 95 when she was Sorted to Gryffindor.note
  • Oracular Urchin: Trances out from time to time to give prophecies and instructions to Neville in a triune voice speaking Old Norse. It's because of her maternal and paternal grandparents' ancestral bloodline's ties to the Vanir to serve them as oracles of the Norns.note
  • The Smart Guy: While she's decent but not great in a fight, her boyfriend Neville is the Champion of one of the Norse Gods of War, and her girlfriends are a squadron of super-dreadnought battleships. Lily instead excels at Divination, Healing, and knowledge of Norse myth, folklore, and legend, which is invaluable to guide the others to keep England safe.
  • Standard Hero Reward: By complete accident when the Huntsman appears. In order to protect Lily and hopefully ward off additional attempts on her freedom, Neville challenges her Grandfather's subordinate to a Trial by Combat using the old Norse forms... which acts as a de facto claim on her hand as a prize to be won. While he has no idea that he actually got himself effectively betrothed to Lily by Elven law and custom thanks to his victory, she knows and is looking forward to 'educating' him once her situation is sufficiently resolved to allow them to wed.
