The Nations of Teyvat -> Mondstadt (City of Mondstadt | Knights of Favonius [Personnel])
City of Mondstadt
Adventurers' Guild Mondstadt, Playable Characters
Bennett
Introduced: September 28, 2020 (v1.0 "Welcome To Teyvat" [game launch])
Voiced by: Mu Xueting (Chinese), Ryōta Ōsaka (Japanese), Song Ha-rim (Korean), Cristina Valenzuela [credited as "Christina Vee"] (English)

A member of the Mondstadt Adventurers' Guild and sole remaining member of his own adventure team, infamous for his bad luck.
- Achilles' Heel: On one hand, Bennett's Burst makes him a valuable pick for the Spiral Abyss. However, it comes with limitations that can manifest themselves in individually problematic ways:
- Unlike most healers, Bennett can only heal one ally at a time. This isn't usually a big deal, since there is only one active character at a time, and the Inspiration Field's healing waves are fast enough to rapidly put his allies back into fighting shape while cycling through them. However, in situations where the entire party is constantly taking damage off-field as well, such as the Corrosion effect, his lack of wide-ranging healing becomes a lot more noticeable.
- Electro is likewise problematic for Bennett, as the Inspiration Field constantly applies a Pyro effect onto allies within. This means that even a single stray Electro attack will inflict Overload on them, interrupting them at best and even launching them out of the Field at worst.
- Hydro and Cryo enemies can also deal huge amounts of damage to characters standing in his Inspiration Field, as they'll trigger Vaporize and Melt respectively. Against certain bosses, this could result in a character being instantly dropped if they don't have some means of mitigating the damage.
- Also, unlike most healers, Bennett's Burst is his only method of doing so, and even then it is limited to allies within the Inspiration Field. This makes him an often weak pick in co-op play, since he forces other players to group around him in order to reap the benefits, and Domain challenges often force parties to spread themselves out across the battlefield, where anyone who is injured will have to run to him for healing, in contrast to the likes of Barbara, Qiqi, or Kokomi, who can heal their allies simply by attacking. In essence, picking Bennett in co-op usually demands a level of coordination that's difficult to attain, let alone master.
- All-Loving Hero: Bennett is a cheerful lad who takes things in stride and doesn't have a mean bone in his body to the point that he simply laughs off Royce telling him that he's an active detriment to adventurers.
- Amplifier Artifact: His third and fifth Constellation upgrades, Unstoppable Fervor and True Explorer, add three levels to, respectively, his Skill and Burst.
- Area of Effect: Bennett's Elemental Burst, Fantastic Voyage, has him damage surrounding foes and summon an Inspiration field that either heals his allies whenever they have less than 70% HP or buffs their Attack stats (worth 56–100.8(126)% of Bennett's) otherwise. His first Constellation upgrade, Grand Expectation, removes the HP-based restriction, in addition to enhancing the Attack boost (worth 20% of Bennett's).
- Awesome, but Impractical: Charging up Bennett's Skill allows it to deal more damage and, when fully charged, creates an explosion that can knock back enemies. However, this can also knock Bennett back, and the lackluster damage increase means it's generally not worth using the fully-charged Skill due to the time required. Using a fully-charged Skill also increases the cooldown, which results in less Elemental Particle generation, so the tapped version is generally more preferable.
- Badass Adorable: Bennett is a very cute boy who can seriously pull his weight in combat in spite of his constant misfortune.
- Beware the Silly Ones: Whenever he appears in the story, expect shenanigans at his expense. This does not mean that he is weak. During the "Shadows Amidst Snowstorms" event, when the fake Albedo attacks the group, Bennett is able to expertly dodge his ice attacks then shatter it all with his Burst. And this is all while dazed from falling off a cliff mere minutes ago.
- Blessed with Suck: His Burst is indeed very powerful, making him a reliable support character. Its Pyro infusion is also useful as Anti-Debuff. However, Pyro is one of the most reactive elements in the game, so players must take care when fighting certain enemies who can deal massive damage thanks to Melt or Vaporize, or knock them away with Overload.
- Boring, but Practical: The tap version of his Skill is a quick and simple fiery slash; it's nothing special in terms of damage output or elemental application, but its fast animation and very short cooldown grants Bennett a reliable source of energy particle generation, useful not only to get his own Elemental Burst faster, but to also help prop up his Pyro teammate's energy needs for their own Burst.
- Born Unlucky: The boy is just bad luck personified (which he himself lampshades in one of his "More About" voice-overs, quoted above). His birthday is Leap Day; his Constellation translates to "Wheel of Misfortune"; his specialty dish is a half-burnt egg (though somehow it does have slightly better effects than the original); and most endings to his Hangout Event tree typically involve a level of misfortune, ranging from mild (missing a discount) to worse (getting stuck in a dungeon with no known way out). It's implied during the "Sunspray Summer Resort" event that his bad luck is due to his Natlanese heritage and being disconnected from Natlan's Ley Lines.Fischl: "Ah, the ill-starred young man... My Auge der Verurteilung has seen with unmistakable clarity, how his heart ails at being forsaken by the world.
Oz: Someone needs to keep an eye on the unlucky fellow." - But Now I Must Go: He debated staying in Natlan after learning about his true origins in the "Sunspray Summer Resort" event, but he ultimately decides to go back to Mondstadt.
- Casting Gag: Ryōta Ōsaka, Bennett's Japanese voice actor, also voices Percival of Granblue Fantasy, another swordsman associated with fire and capable of receiving an attack buff proportional to his remaining HP, a straightforward skill that has a notably high damage multiplier that gets more chances to activate when used in tandem with his charged attacks, and also appointed the main character as vassal without their consent, like how Bennett states the Traveler is now part of his adventure team when befriended.
- Charged Attack: In its base form, his Elemental Skill, Passion Overload, is a simple Pyro-enhanced slash; when charged, each level increases his number of hits, and at the second and highest level, the third hit creates an explosion that blows enemies and himself away (though he takes no damage), in exchange for an increasing cooldown time depending on charge level (five seconds plus 2.5 per charge, for a maximum of ten). His first-ascension passive, Rekindle, reduces its cooldown time by 20% (hence four seconds plus two per charge, for a maximum of eight); that for his fourth, Fearnaught, allows the Inspiration Field to further halve the cooldown time (hence two seconds plus one per charge, for a maximum of four), in addition to negating Bennett's blowback from the second charge; and his fourth Constellation upgrade, Unexpected Odyssey, converts his first Normal Attack after the first-charge form of the Skill into a follow-up attack (with damage worth 135% of the Skill's second hit).
- Children Are Innocent: Despite being a teenager, Bennett is one of the only three playable Mondstadters who believes Fischl is a princess from a mysterious kingdom, the other two being Klee and Noelle.
- Child of Two Worlds: Twofold. Bennett's biological parents are Natlanese of two different tribes, but before he would be raised with Natlanese values, his parents were killed. Later on, he was saved and raised by Mondstadt adventurers, making him culturally Mondstadter. This poses an issue in "Sunspray Summer Resort" of the possibility of Bennett wanting to reconnect with his biological parents' roots in addition of honoring his adoptive fathers' culture.
- Combat Medic: The Inspiration Field either heals allies while their HP is low or boost their Attack otherwise.
- Conveniently an Orphan: The first elderly adventurer who adopted Bennett died from severe injuries, with his final words mentioning the word "adventure." Since then, senior members of the Mondstadt Adventurers' Guild raised Bennett like their own son.
- Cooldown Manipulation: Both of Bennett's Ascension passives reduce the cooldown time of his Skill (in addition to his fourth allowing the Inspiration field to negate the blowback of his fully-charged Skill).
- Covered with Scars: Downplayed. He does have a large scar on his left shoulder, but no other real visible ones after that.
- Critical Status Buff: His second Constellation upgrade, Impasse Conqueror, boosts his Energy Recharge rate by 30% whenever his HP falls below 70%.
- Cute Little Fangs: His official art reveals he has these.
- Daddy's Girl: A gender-flipped example, as his voice lines make clear. He may only have adopted "dads," but he loves them all the same.
- A Day in the Limelight: He gets some focus in the "Sunspray Summer Resort" event, where he not only gets a new unlockable outfit but his origins are explored. Overlapping with Throw the Dog a Bone, aside from getting stuck in Mare Jivari temporarily, nothing bad happens to him.
- Death Is Such an Odd Thing: His Character Stories have him ponder about what death truly means or feels like. He got a bit fearful when he thought about it, but he then thought that if an "adventurer's death" is a good one, then it must be an adventurer's final fortune... and then he went on to think that "not that fortune has anything to do with him." With that, he just stopped thinking about death altogether and goes on to find his next treasure.
- Deceased Parents Are the Best: Bennett's real parents, Aroni and Macani, both gave their lives and offered their souls to be bound as Asha in order to see Bennett (who was a baby at the time) to safety.
- Determinator: Bennett's passion offsets his penchant for misfortune, as reflected in his playing style.
- Does Not Know His Own Strength: The second charge of his Skill is strong enough to send himself flying backwards. Even its first charge has a high enough interruption force to send adult Vishaps flying.
- Do Not Go Gentle: According to his Vision story, Bennett was near death after yet another adventure gone wrong, but he refused to give in to despair about his circumstances or horrible luck. He woke up with a Pyro Vision that cauterized his wounds and saved his life.
- Drum Roll, Please: When the Traveler and Paimon catch sight of him in Natlan, a drumroll plays as the fellow talking to the odd Asha is revealed to be Bennet, though without the accompanying Stock Phrase.
- Elemental Personalities: Has a Pyro Vision and is quite the passionate, excitable guy that doesn't let even the worst of his luck keep his mood down.
- Fire Is Masculine: When compared to Barbara, whom he's seen with occasionally. While not as overtly masculine as Diluc, he's still a hot-headed adventurer who doesn't show his frustration with his bad luck openly and is an offensive support who can still deal decent damage.
- Flaming Sword: His Skill coats his sword with fire and can be charged up to two levels for as much as three slashes, with the third triggering an explosion. His fourth Constellation upgrade also allows the first Normal Attack used after the first-charge form of his Skill to be imbued with Pyro.
- Genre Refugee: He's a plucky if unlucky guy, with goggles and is Conveniently an Orphan, and his adventure team is a Club Stub, checking off all the tropes of a Stock Shōnen Hero, down to his fiery elemental motif.
- Good Is Dumb: Bennett is a good guy and all, but he is also slow on the uptake. He does not realize that the other members of his team abandoned him over his bad luck and takes Fischl's wild stories about being from another dimension at face value.
- Goggles Do Nothing: Has a pair of goggles that never do anything other than sit on his head.
- Having a Blast: His Burst and the second-charge form of his Skill respectively begin and end with huge explosions, the latter having the drawback of blowing him away unless he has either unlocked his fourth-ascension passive, which allows the Inspiration Field to negate the blowback, or if he has Elemental Shields or his interruption resistance buffed (through various means).
- Heal It With Fire: His Burst is able to heal party members as long as they have less than 70% of their HP. Furthermore, gaining his Pyro Vision allowed Bennett to close his own wounds and save his life shortly after gaining it.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: This can happen to players standing in his field if they are hit by Hydro, Cryo, or Electro attacks. Since the Inspiration Field constantly applies Pyro to characters inside, Hydro and Cryo attacks can deal huge damage via Vaporize and Melt, respectively, while Electro attacks can trigger Overload.
- Immune to Flinching: His fourth-ascension passive, Fearnaught, allows the Inspiration Field to negate Bennett's blowback from the fully-charged form of his Skill, in addition to a Cooldown Manipulation effect.
- Invocation:"Everybody stand back!"
"I'm going in!"
"Teamwork is dreamwork!" - Ironic Name: Bennett is a derivative of Benedict, meaning "blessed". He's anything but. The same degree of irony plays out in the name of his Normal Attack, Strike of Fortune.
- Jack of All Stats: Bennet has balanced stats, and his kit can fill all the role for the team by himself if needed, Benny's adventure team consisting of only himself.
- The Jinx: Every other member of "Benny's Adventure Team" secretly left him because he is a Doom Magnet. Even him mentioning the clear weather causes it to rain suddenly. He cannot even cook eggs without charring them into a crisp, if his specialty dish implies anything. Fortunately, his bad luck does not impact gameplay so you don't have to worry about weather changes or terrible loot while having him around. The "Sunspray Summer Resort" event has several characters wondering whether his bad luck is due to the compromised Ley Line system in Natlan, since he's a Natlan native and has spent nearly his entire life away from his homeland.
- Lethal Chef: While gameplay-wise he can cook as well as any character, Bennett is not a particularly capable cook, to say the least. Aside from his unique dish being a slightly burnt egg, one route of his Hangout Event tree has him cook up a purple blob that gives food poisoning to whoever eats it (which, depending on the ending, is either Royce or Benny himself).
- Locked in a Room: Or in his case, a jail cell with Razor. This occurred during the 2021 Windblume Festival event, but he and Razor hold no animosity towards each other for this incident, with Bennett even giving Razor his food.
- Locked Out of the Loop: Subverted. Initially, he seems unaware that most of his team left him on account of the bad luck he brings, and that Katheryne simply keeps records of "Benny's Adventure Team" on the books out of pity. However, both his high Friendship Level dialogue and the start of his Hangout Event tree reveal that he is already aware of both.
- Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Being Born Unlucky is one thing, but the sheer amount of bad luck that follows in Bennett's wake and the fact that it can outright alter the weather would strongly suggest that he's legitimately cursed. It's implied that his bad luck is due to him being Natlanese by birth and being disconnected from the Ley Lines.
- The Magnificent: He's known as "Bennett the Unlucky."
- Meaningful Name: He's named after Bennett's Fracture
, a kind of hand injury affecting the base of the thumb and its adjacent joints, which is why he is so associated with the thumbs-up sign, in addition to another allusion to his bad luck. - The Millstone: Bennett's very presence will either guarantee that an unpleasant situation is about to get worse or that the loot will be incredibly crappy (Bennett considers a couple of vegetables and a single Mora to be great since that is what he typically gets as loot).
- Muscles Are Meaningless: He may have a slender build but is strong enough to launch normally unlaunchable enemies like Mitachurls, Geovishaps, etc. into the air with his Skill.
- Navel Window: His outfit exposes his navel area.
- Necessary Drawback: He can only heal allies up to 70% of their HP, and even that is locked to his Burst. A wise decision in hindsight, as it can also deal huge damage on enemies and apply a big Attack boost to allies and a Pyro effect on everyone within its radius (lest it be detrimental to dedicated healers like Diona, Qiqi, Barbara, and Kokomi).
- Nice Guy: Bennett's a sweet kid who takes his bad luck in stride, and besides that, he is overall friendly to a lot of people which includes Fischl.
- Odd Friendship: Bennett, an eternally upbeat magnet for misfortune, is friends with Barbara, a lovely deaconess and songstress; Fischl, a wildly imaginative girl with a raven familiar; and Razor, a Wild Child Raised by Wolves. Fittingly enough, he has a Fire/Water Juxtaposition with the former and a Lightning/Fire Juxtaposition with the latter two courtesy of their Visions.
- Pain to the Ass: During the "Shadows Amidst Snowstorms" event, Bennett accidentally falls off the mountain thanks to his bad luck. His landing isn't comfy."Whoa!!! Ouch... Ow, my butt!... What is this shard of ice doing here!"
- Parental Abandonment: His Character Story shows that his birth parents abandoned him when he was a baby, and someone from the Adventurers' Guild took him in. The "Sunspray Summer Resort" event reveals that his family were Natlanese adventurers that were attacked by Abyssal creatures and died protecting him. When they realized that they had been killed and the baby left alone in the wilds, they prayed for Divine Intervention to save Bennett and offered to give up their place in the Night Kingdom if it meant he would survive.
- Perennially Overshadowed Birthday: Bennett's penchant for misfortune is emphasized by the fact that his birthday is February 29th, i.e. Leap Day, so he was literally Born Unlucky. He laments that he can't fully celebrate his birthday every year like everyone else, so to compensate for his "lack of a birthday", he typically sends his birthday letters to the Traveler on February 28th instead.
- Pointless Band-Aid: He has one that rests on his nose.
- The Pollyanna: A lesser man will break in the face of all the misfortune in Bennett's life and career. Bennett himself takes it with a smile and a thumbs up.
- Power-Up Letdown: His sixth Constellation upgrade allows the Inspiration Field to infuse Pyro onto his allies' melee attacks. Unfortunately, this is prone to messing with Elemental Reactions and/or infusions as well as physical damagers, and once the upgrade is activated, it is permanent and players are stuck with it forever. While the effect is useful in certain team compositions, it restricts what kind of compositions he can be in, leading to either regret over activating it or having to deal with the permanent "!" icon on the Character menu. That said, characters whose Elemental Talents have a "conversion" effect (such as Xiao, Itto, Ayato, the Raiden Shogun, Nilou, etc.) are immune to this effect, as their innate element cannot be overridden while the Burst is active; as it stands, those whose Talents merely offer "infusion" effects (e.g., Keqing, Chongyun, Ayaka, full-Constellation Kazuha, etc.) are out of luck.
- Quieter Than Silence: One of his idle animations in the Character screen is him enthusiastically proclaiming "Benny's Adventure Team, assemble!", only to have no one responding except for the wind, after which he gives a disappointed sigh.
- Raised by the Community: Bennett was found and raised by elder members of the Mondstadt Adventurers' Guild, and he refers to all of them as his fathers. As they got older, Bennett now is the one taking care of them at the retirement home.
- Real Men Eat Meat: He loves meaty dishes, as said in his voiceline about his favorite food."Meat! Meat is the best sustenance there is. Chicken-Mushroom Skewers, Steaks, and Sweet Madames are all my specialties. You won't go hungry if you come adventuring with me, that's for sure!"
- Riddle for the Ages: During the first quest of the "Invitation of Windblume" event, he was among those seeking Venti's guidance for writing a love poem. However, the intended recipient of his poem is left ambiguous.
- Significant Birthdate: Bennett is so unlucky even his birthday is on February 29. The game at least celebrates his birthday on the 28th whenever it is not leap year.
- Sliding Scale of Gameplay and Story Integration:
- In-story, Bennett is considered horribly unlucky and bad to be around. Using Bennett is a case of making damn sure luck has nothing to do with what happens. His Skill can backfire if he charges too long, while his Burst can make the party trigger unwanted Elemental Reactions, especially if his Constellation is fully upgraded, and the Pyro application can make the party take a far worse hit if an outlier lands a shot.
- Bennett is Covered in Scars and frequently says he needs bandages if low on HP. The Inspiration Field can only heal allies up to 70% of their HP, so players need to either make up the rest or just accept the truncated healing.
- A retroactive case: it's revealed in the Sunspray Summer Resort that Bennett is actually from Natlan. He is one of Mavuika's best supports, being a powerful ATK buffer who also wields Pyro.
- Spell Blade: His sixth Constellation upgrade, Fire Ventures Within Me, allows the Inspiration Field to infuse Pyro onto melee (i.e., sword, claymore, or polearm) units. This can be a Power-Up Letdown in certain situations, however, as certain characters would prefer to keep their Normal Attacks deal physical or other elemental damage.
- Sprint Shoes: Played with. His utility passive, It Should Be Safe... shaves 25% off of the duration any Expedition to Mondstadt he is sent in.
- Status Quo Is God: Even after learning about his true origins as someone born in Natlan and debating if he wanted to stay there or not, he ultimately decides to remain in Mondstadt.
- Stepford Smiler: If Fischl's voiceline about him is any indication, Bennett's constant misfortune does cause him grief which he hides beneath his carefree attitude; though given it's Fischl, it's ambiguous whether she's just being flamboyant or if there's any truth to her claims.
- Suddenly Ethnicity: Technically speaking, he has been the first Natlanese playable character from the day the game went online and another Pyro Natlanese playable character alongside Mavuika, with the "Sunspray Summer Resort" Event implying that him not being connected to Natlan’s ley lines as revealed in the event (also putting into mind of the reason why the Natlanese barely leave their nation revealed in Natlan Archon Quest) is the source of his bad luck.
- Support Party Member: While he's capable of being a serviceable damage-dealer, Bennett truly shines when creating Inspiration Fields, which can heal allies with low HP or buff their Attack otherwise, as well as imbuing everyone in the field with Pyro, allowing for both removing an elemental debuff and elemental reaction strategies. His first Constellation upgrade removes the HP-based restriction as well as strengthens the boost itself.
- Taught by Experience: His misfortunes during adventures have toughened him and made him more knowledgeable about survival tactics. Oz, Barbara, and even Varka are surprised by his knowledge and mettle.
- Throw the Dog a Bone:
- Despite his sheer misfortune, he has some occasional good luck coming his way. For starters, the fact that he was blessed with a Pyro Vision indicates that he was deemed worthy enough by the Seven Archons to receive one, and amidst nigh-disastrous outcomes in four of his five Hangout Event endings, the last one gives him a Surprisingly Happy Ending as he and the Traveler manage to get a lot of Mora.
- He eventually gets a long lucky streak when he goes on vacation in Natlan. Justified, as he's within his home nation where he doesn't have to worry about being disconnected from the Natlanese ley lines there.
- Underrated and Overleveled: In-story, Bennett is such a jinx that anyone he adventures with will suffer from his infectious bad luck and range of extremely improbable disasters, to the point that many know to stay as far away from him as possible. In-game, this is not as dire an issue, and his kit has such powerful, wide-reaching utility that almost any team can benefit from having him on board.
- Weapon Specialization:
- For his Wish artwork, Bennett wields the Harbinger of Dawn (3★); perhaps fitting his reputation for bad luck, while its Ascension substat of Critical Damage (10.2–46.9%) can serve him well, he cannot tap into its full potential, since his Burst doesn't heal enough to trigger its "Vigorous" passive, which increases its wielder's Critical Rate by 14–28% whenever their HP is at least 90%.
- In cutscenes, Bennett wields the Traveler's Handy Sword (3★), which is relatively more appropriate for an adventurer like him, as well as helps with his survivability through its Ascension substat of Defense (6.4–29.%) and its "Journey" passive, which heals the wielder (worth 1–2% of their Max HP) for every Elemental Orb or Particle collected.
- Weather Manipulation: Played for Laughs. When he declares it looks like a lovely day to go out for a walk, a giant storm proceeds to appear out of nowhere. The game will then give you the "Archaic Lord of Lightning and Blitz" achievement for "Witnessing the awesome meteorological power of Bennett's phenomenally bad luck."
- Whole Costume Reference: His outfit is a remixed version of Himeko's Frisian Cutlass
outfit. - Worth It:
- At the end of one of his adventures, despite being near death and finding no actual treasure he still decided that it was all worth it because of the grand adventure he had, and it was this love of adventure that led to him gaining a Vision.
- The elderly adventurer who adopted him braved a fiery ordeal, only to find Bennett as an abandoned baby. The adventurer was by no means disappointed, however, and gladly took Bennett in as his own.
Fischl von Luftschloss Narfidort (née Amy), Prinzessin der Verurteilung (and Ozvaldo "Oz" von Hrafnavins)
Introduced: September 28, 2020 (v1.0 "Welcome To Teyvat" [game launch])
Fischl is voiced by: Mace (Chinese), Maaya Uchida (Japanese), Park Go-woon (Korean), Brittany Cox (English)
Oz is voiced by: Li Yuantao (Chinese, original), Zhao Yuecheng (Chinese, v2.5 onwards), Yasunori Masutani (Japanese), Lee Hyun (Korean), Ben Pronsky (English)

"Mein Fräulein reads a lot of novels. *(sigh)* My name, 'Oz', is from one of her favorites."
An investigator for the Adventurers' Guild, Fischl travels the land with her night raven familiar Oz, as famed among her peers for her sleuthing skills as her many eccentricities. The Traveler first meets her while investigating a series of sleeping sickness cases seemingly connected to a recent meteor shower.
Shared Tropes
- The All-Seeing A.I.: Oz can and will actively attack enemies even after they go invisible.
- Amplifier Artifact: Fischl's third and fifth Constellation upgrades, Wings of Nightmare and Against the Fleeing Light, add three levels to, respectively, her Skill and Burst.
- The Beastmaster: Amongst the launch lineup, Fischl comes closest to this trope, with her kit revolving around summoning Oz, who forms a massive bulk of her damage output (complemented by her Ascension stat of Attack percentage [6–24%]).
- The Bus Came Back: The "Summer Fantasia" event in v2.8 (July 2022) is the first appearance of both Fischl and Oz in the game's storyline since v1.1's "Unreconciled Stars" event (November 2020).
- Assist Character: Oz acts as this for Fischl's Elemental Talents. Her Elemental Skill, Nightrider, summons him into combat to fire Freikugel thunderbolts at enemies for ten seconds (with at least one-second intervals), while she fuses with him for her Burst. Fischl's second Constellation upgrade, Devourer of All Sins, increases Oz's damage (worth twice her Attack stat), as well as his coverage by 50%.
- Bolt of Divine Retribution: Both of Fischl's ascension passives allow the party to have Oz fire Thundering Retribution bolts that deal wide-ranging Electro damage. That for her first, Stellar Predator, allows her to do so by shooting at him with a fully-charged shot, while that for her fourth, Undone Be Thy Sinful Hex, allows any active character to do so with Electro-related reactions (with damage worth, respectively, 152.7% of that of the shot and 80% of Fischl's Attack stat).
- Calling Your Attacks: When using her Burst, she or Oz have a chance to call out its name, "Midnight Phantasmagoria".
- Cooldown Manipulation: Downplayed as the ability does not affect the cooldown itself, but her Burst effectively doubles to re-summon Oz, particularly if her Skill is on its 25-second-long cooldown. With the right timing, and enough Energy gain, she can perpetually keep Oz active.
- Dark Is Not Evil: The pair's color scheme is purple and black, and yet they're unambiguously on the side of the heroes, even if one of them is a bit of an oddball.
- A Day in the Limelight: They play a prominent role in the "Unreconciled Stars" and "Summer Fantasia" events.
- Fusion Dance: Fischl's Elemental Burst, Midnight Phantasmagoria, has her fuse with Oz to fly around the field, zapping any enemy they come across. Her fourth Constellation upgrade, Her Pilgrimage of Bleak, allows it to deal Electro damage to surrounding enemies at its start (with damage worth 222% of her Attack stat), as well as heal Fisch afterwards.
- A Girl and Her X: Fischl is a young lady with a huge case of chuunibyou who has a sentient, communicative, magically powerful raven who fights on her behalf.
- Glass Cannon: Fischl has an exceptionally good Attack stat, one of the best of all 4★ units, compounded by additional firepower from Oz. As such, she's one of the strongest support characters, providing great damage as well as recharging the party. However, her low Max HP and Defense do not make for great survivability, not helped by her Burst only providing one second of invincibility compared to those of other characters. This is partially ameliorated with her fourth Constellation upgrade which immediately heals her at the end of her Burst.
- Gratuitous German: Fischl uses a lot of it in her Elemental Talents (at least in languages that use the Latin script). "Auge der Verurteilung des Großen Kaleidophantasmas"note , indeed. It is also questionable linguistically, and there is a decent chance that's intended by the writers. It even applies to her specialty dish, "Die Heilige Sinfonie" ("The Holy Symphony"). Likewise, Oz addresses her as "mein Fräulein" (my lady), though in the English dub, Ben Pronsky uses a more North German dialect, pronouncing it "mane froy-line" instead of the more familiar "mine frow-line."
- Ham and Deadpan Duo: Fischl is a chuunibyou Large Ham with a very flowery manner of speaking, while Oz is more deadpan, "translates" Fischl's speech into normal English, and sasses back at her from time to time.
- Heal Thyself: In addition to allowing the start of her Burst to deal damage to surrounding enemies, Fischl's fourth Constellation upgrade heals her (worth 20% of her Max HP) once she breaks up her fusion with Oz.
- Invocation: Either Fischl or Oz can utter one during her Burst.(Fischl) "Wings of darkness — come, sever night from day!"
(Fischl) "Midnight Phantasmagoria!"
(Fischl) "Shadow raven, let night fall!"
(Oz) "As you wish, Mein Fräulein."
(Oz) "Midnight Phantasmagoria!" - More Dakka: Fischl's first Constellation upgrade, Gaze of the Deep, allows Oz to shoot projectiles in tandem with her Normal Attack, Bolts of Downfall, even when he is not active, while her sixth, Evernight Raven, allows him to strike in tandem with any active character if he is on the field as well as extends his duration to twelve seconds. Both deal damage worth, respectively, 22% and 30% of Fischl's Attack stat.
- Out-of-Character Moment:
- During the final part of the "Unreconciled Stars" event, Fischl accidentally drops her flowery speech pattern right before she leaves, confessing that she has had great fun and that most people in the Mondstadt Adventurers' Guild only ever talk to her for Oz's reconnaissance reports. After getting embarrassed when Paimon points this out, Oz tries to cover for her, translating her words back into her normal prose, which Paimon also calls out as weird.
- Once the player's Friendship Level with her is high enough, some of her voice lines indicate that she begins to struggle to keep character around the Traveler due to her feelings for them.
- Even without these examples, there are a few times in her story events where she gets rattled or irritated enough to break character, which Oz quickly reminds her of.
- Out of Focus: They had not appeared in the game's storyline from the "Unreconciled Stars" event way back in v1.1 (November 2020) to the Summer Fantasia event in v2.8, almost two years later. They had failed to appear even in the "Shadows Amidst Snowstorms" event that focuses on the Guild. It was noted in-universe that they were simply busy elsewhere, while in real life their absence has to do with issues involving Li Yuantao, Oz's original Chinese voice actor.
- Psychic Link: Fischl can see through Oz's eyes by possessing him. This is taken a step further with her Burst, wherein she merges with Oz and flies around the battlefield, zapping any enemy they come across.
- Put on a Bus: They must go help the afflicted people in the final part of the "Unreconciled Stars" story event. Fischl and Oz give the Traveler and Mona their blessings to finish the job. They don't come back until v2.8, for the Summer Fantasia event.
- Red Baron:
- Fischl calls herself "Prinzessin der Verurteilung", which means "Princess of Condemnation" in German.
- Oz has multiple titles like Fischl, including the "King of Ravens" or the "Night-Severing Raven Oz".
- Sliding Scale of Gameplay and Story Integration: In the library maze section of "Immernachtreich Apokalypse" Quest of the "Summertime Odyssey" event, Oz temporarily sides with "Immernacht Fischl". As a result of this, Fischl's Elemental Talents are disabled during this time, since both are tied to Oz.
- Sprint Shoes: Played with. Her utility passive, Mein Hausgarten, shaves 25% off of the duration of Expeditions in Mondstadt she is sent in.
- Weak, but Skilled: Statistically, Fischl's base HP and Defense are among the lowest, while her Attack is great, but not enough to make up for her subpar survivability. However, her ability to make Oz linger on the battlefield with some investment into the Energy Recharge stat makes her a reliable, consistent source of Electro damage and any corresponding Elemental Reactions.
- Weapon Specialization: Fischl's Genius Invokation TCG card depicts her wielding Mitternachts Waltz (4★), whose Ascension substat is Physical Damage Bonus (11.3–51.7%), and whose "Evernight Duet" passive increases the damage potency of Elemental Skills by 20–40% whenever they use Normal Attacks, as well as vice versa, for five seconds. Apart from the weapon matching her aesthetic, it syncs well with her kit by mutually empowering both Fischl's two such attacks and encourages her to alternate between siccing Oz on her enemies and shooting them down on her own.
Tropes exclusive to Fischl
- Age-Inappropriate Dress: Possibly. Oz's voice line saying she cannot buy alcohol implies that Fischl is still in her mid-teens (though she could simply be a young adult who is not yet of drinking age), and yet her outfit has a sizable part made from a sheer leotard, meaning that the only real cover she has comes from what looks like a flowing corset and a pair of panties. Even compared to other characters, the fact that what seems to be a teenaged girl wearing a lingerie leotard in public could raise a lot of eyebrows. Her Ein Immernachstrum alternate outfit is more modest, as the fabric in the front covers her chest, but the skirt is still made out of a sheer material, so the outline of her groin is visible.
- All There in the Manual: During her first appearances, Oz often danced around the question when asked about her real name, and all her backstory text censors it. The only reason sharp-eared audiences knew her real name was "Amy" was because her father called her as such in her character trailer. It wouldn't be until the "Summer Fantasia" event when Fischl gets addressed under her real name in-game.
- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: She'd have people believe this, given her father calls her by her true name during her debut trailer, leaving her flustered and insisting she is "Fischl, Prinzessin der Verurteilung", knowing not of any "Amy"). Though after the "Summer Fantasia" event, this is subverted.
- Ascended Fangirl: She is possibly playing out the part of her favorite novel heroine to the hilt, down to cosplaying as her and fighting like her. This is all thanks to receiving a Vision at age fourteen, her newfound powers manifesting in a raven familiar, identical to the character Oz from the books, which became her companion. One of Noelle's lines for her has the maid assuming that she's the same heroine character from said novel.
- The Baby of the Bunch: For the group in the "Summertime Odyssey" event, in terms of maturity at least. Whatever the actual ages of Kazuha, Xinyan, and Mona, they've already moved on from their past hardships by the time they relived them in their Mirages. By contrast, Fischl is still struggling with her deep-seated insecurities, which the others help her surpass.
- Badass Adorable: Fischl is one heck of a chuunibyou, but she's still a competent adventurer, and is endearingly cute for it.
- Be Yourself: Learns this important lesson in her own quest in the "Summertime Odyssey" event, after Oz helps Amy regain her confidence and teaches her to accept her "Fischl" self anew.
- Bookworm: In one of his voice lines, Oz points out that Fischl is an avid reader of novels (and that his name comes from one such book), hinting at a source for Fischl's eccentricities. Descriptions for her Elemental Talents show that the source of all this is the Flowers for Princess Fischl novel series. Noelle's voice lines back this up, noting that Fischl always reads in the library in the Knights of Favonius' headquarters whenever she is not at work.
- Borrowed Catchphrase: She robs one of Diluc's Burst quotes in "A Summer Night's Phantasmagoria" event, with Oz commenting on it shortly after.Fischl: "Today is the day of one's reckoning with fate, as foretold by the night sky! Humiliations suffered in the past, the shame we have carried all these years, one bids you adieu! For today, it is time for... Retribution!"
Oz: "Mein Fräulein, if I may be so bold, that final line did not sound like one of your own." - Bunny-Ears Lawyer:
- The Guild plays along with her quirks because she is one of their best investigators. Such skills come into gameplay with her field passive cutting down Expedition time by 25%. The "Unreconciled Stars" event plays with this, where she admits that the Guild's members only come to her to listen to intel from Oz.
- In the "Unreconciled Stars" event, Oz notes that her intuitions usually turn out correct, nonsensical though they may seem and even if she cannot explain how she got to such conclusions. In her, the Traveler, and Mona's quest to solve the mystery of the sleep-inducing meteorites, Fischl claims early on that this was due to a curse from an unknown power. She's proven right when Mona discovers that they came from a long-deceased adventurer's dream to scale Pilos Peak, now reduced to Musk Reef due to Barbatos's terraforming.Mona: "I'm a little incredulous, but it turns out her blind guess was actually spot-on... Ugh, no, I'm a respectable astrologist, and I shouldn't stoop to that kind of criticism."
- Casting Gag: Maaya Uchida, Fischl's Japanese voice actress, is best known for her breakout role of Rikka Takanashi of Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, herself a codifier of the chuunibyou archetype.
- Chewing the Scenery: A chuunibyou who speaks with ham and in Purple Prose, uses eloquent words, milks the giant cow... yeah, this is a given.
- Chuunibyou: Unarguably the biggest example in Genshin Impact, what with her bombastic personality, penchant for eloquent and flowery language, unconventional choice of appearance (such as an eyepatch covering what she claims is a Magical Eye, dark and asymmetrical clothing, black nail polish, bat-wing decorations on her boots and shoulder covering), her raven familiar, snazzy hand poses, and delusions of being a dragon-slayer. Her primary gimmick as a character is one extended joke on this trope and trying to live one's deepest fantasies. Even descriptions for her Elemental Talents are oozing with Purple Prose. There is a degree of irony to this, of course, since she actually is a capable mage/archer living in a fantasy world; despite this, she still manages to have ludicrous delusions of grandeur.
- This undergoes a Decon-Recon Switch during the "Summertime Odyssey" event. After she, the Traveler, Paimon, Kazuha, Mona, and Xinyan arrive at the Golden Apple Archipelago on vacation, mirages of their dreams and innermost feelings begin to surface. Amy's memories reveal that her parents used to indulge her roleplaying as Fischl, but once she turned fourteen, they began trying to help her grow out of it. Eventually, an alternate persona of Fischl, dressed as Ein Immernachtstraum, calls Oz forth to her side and calls Amy a weakling and a coward for her inability to face reality without hiding behind her "Fischl" persona. A heartbroken Amy concedes she is right, but after a Rousing Speech from her friends, Amy fights "Fischl" and perseveres, then counterargues her hypocrisy, demonstrating herself to be more mature than what both thought. Oz applauds this and reveals his defection was merely a Secret Test of Character to teach Amy to be herself. With her confidence restored, Amy accepts anew her Fischl self despite her imperfections.
- Competition Freak: Fischl is generally personable as long as others respect her quirks, but she gets heated during a competition. This is why she snarks back at Mona sometimes. It's most obvious during the quest to unlock Genius Invokation TCG, where the match between her and the Traveler is the last one they need before they can become a ranked TCG player. Fischl's tone before this match is more aggressive than usual, and when she's on the losing end she asks that Oz attack the Traveler. Fortunately, rather than follow her commands, Oz chastises her for losing her temper.
- Cool Crown: She wears a gothic tiara as part of her Ein Immernachtstraum alternate outfit.
- "Darkness von Gothick" Name: Her self-applied moniker, "Fischl von Luftschloss Narfidort."
- Decoy Protagonist: A good chunk of the "Summertime Odyssey" event is about Fischl trying to find the Golden Apple Archipelago to spend her summer vacation under the pretense of finding the promised land, but after the Fatui and powers from above get involved, she began to lose prominence in favor of Mona, who is instrumental in deciphering the mysteries behind the mirages and the Fatui machine, as well as the Traveler's first contact with Nahida.
- Dimensional Traveler: She claims to be one, similar to the Traveler; she identifies her homeworld as "Immernachtreich"note and claims it was destroyed in some fashion. Her Character Story, however, does reveal her background to be just a normal girl who delved too deeply into her fantasies. She is, at least, able to quickly recognize the Traveler for what they are, befitting her strong intuition.
- Do Not Call Me "Paul": She does not want to admit her real name, Amy, as seen on this official tweet
and on her Announcement Video
. Her character stories also block out any mentions of that name from her parents' dialogue lines. - Dork Knight: A cute chuunibyou girl, especially when she gets embarrassed when she realizes she dropped her persona towards the end of the "Unreconciled Stars" event. But make no mistake, her battle capabilities are all real, and she can be relied on when it comes to her job of investigating.
- Dramatic Irony: Simulanka Durin's introduction on his drip marketing has Fischl effectively create an imaginary scenario where Simulanka Durin would meet Dvalin again to face him one more time, as she thinks that this Durin is just an Identical Stranger with coincidental naming as the Durin from Mondstadt past when he faced Dvalin in the backstory. Of course, she didn’t realize that Simulanka Durin is fused with the heart of the actual Durin, and thus the same person in a technical sense, meaning she unknowingly foreshadowed a future scenario that could happen anytime in the long run.
- Driven to Suicide: Implied in the past. Her third Character Story describes a scene from the Flowers for Princess Fischl novel where its Fischl, despondent over her people denying her noble lineage, drew her own blood before Oz appeared and swore fealty to her. Furthermore, during the "Summertime Odyssey" event players can find a talking raven statue near a cliff claiming it knows what they are thinking, asks them not to do it, then tries to assure them that everything will be alright; also, towards the end of its event story one road towards the objective ends abruptly with what seemed like a ledge over the void, with the notice board nearby stating that "the courage to leap when faced with the precipice of a cliff is the key to freedom's gate". All these heavily imply that Fischl may have been driven to self-harm due to the bullying she faced for her chuunibyou fantasies and her parents forcing her to move on until she met Oz.
- Elegant Gothic Lolita: Fischl's base design already evokes a heavy element of this trope, what with her black sheer leotard resembling lingerie, hair ribbons, black elegant corset, and tights. But her Ein Immernachtstraum skin puts it into literal territory due to her Renaissance-era clothing, frills, ankle ribbons, and puffy shorts. This makes Fischl stands out so much more compared to the rest of the cast.
- Exposed to the Elements: Her "When it Snows" line has Fischl admire the snow, only to start sneezing quickly. That sheer leotard her outfit is made from isn't helping her deal with the cold anytime soon.Fischl: "A wonderful sight indeed. Why, it reminds me of my home world, where at the sight of the Prinzessin der Verurteilung, the very blood and tears of sinners turn to ice! ...Achoo! Achoo!"
Oz: "Not only their blood and tears, but also their saliva and mucus, mein Fräulein."
Fischl: "Oz— Ahh—Achoo!!!" - Eye Color Change: In Fischl's Ein Immernachtstraum skin, while her left eye is covered as in her default outfit, her right eye is red instead of green. This is explained in the "Summer Fantasia" event story as being the result of a Split-Personality Merge, as the outfit originally belonged to Immernacht Fischl, although they may be colored contacts as the description for the outfit is a script which notes that the novel version of Fischl had red eyes and suggests incorporating that into her costume.
- Eyepatch of Power: She wants hers to be one, at any rate. Whether it is sealing any actual magical power (as she claims) is currently a matter of interpretation. She still has an eyepatch in her Ein Immernachstraum skin in spite of her hair over her eye, but it's a different one as it's white instead of black.
- Fashionable Asymmetry: She's going for it at any rate, with one of her tights/stockings going all the way up and the other stopping just short, completely different sleeve designs with one ending in a glove and the other not, and two varieties of hair decorations, along with the obvious eyepatch.
- Friendless Background: Her Character Stories reveal that she was often alone at home because her parents traveled often. This led her to spend time reading novels and becoming enamored with the worlds therein, insisting on her father calling her "Fischl," after the protagonist of her favorite series, after he did it once. Because of that, the other kids were weirded out by her. It was not until she was fourteen that she met Oz, after she came home crying because of the bullying she faced and her father urging her to abandon her fantasies. The Stories do not specify what exactly happened to her after that, only that it was something sad she does not want to remember, but it ended with her receiving an Electro Vision and a raven companion.
- Friendly Sniper: For all her boasting, she is a pretty crack shot with her own shortbow, and she is friendly so long as you, well, play into her fantasies.
- Frills of Justice: Her "Ein Immernachstraum" alternate outfit checks most of the boxes—it's frillier, is predominantly purple-and-white instead of purple-and-black, and incorporates hair ribbons and a Cool Crown into the mix. It makes her look like a Dark Magical Girl, which is fitting given that this outfit is princess-themed and reflects both her Friendless Background and being an Occidental Otaku.
- Giant Poofy Sleeves: Fischl's "Ein Imernachtstraum" alternate outfit has these below her shoulders. Keyword is below, as her shoulders are completely bare.
- Girlish Pigtails: She has short twin-tails tied with black ribbons.
- Growing Up Sucks: As seen in the "Summer Fantasia" event, as Amy grew older, her parents became more frustrated with her "Fischl" act to the point that they openly told her that she's becoming too old to indulge in her fantasies, and tried to help her focus on something more productive, like music. Unfortunately, since they were pretty much the only people that indulged Amy's roleplay, she began to have an identity crisis. After meeting Oz, Amy subconsciously buried her insecurities for a few years afterwards, until the "Summer Fantasia" event forced her to confront them anew and learn to accept reality while also striking a balance with maintaining her persona.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She has golden locks and, Chuunibyou tendencies aside, is an absolute sweetheart.
- Hidden Depths: First impressions would suggest Fischl is a wildly immature and egotistical teen who only works for the Mondstadt Adventurers' Guild as a means of stroking her own ego. As time goes on it becomes clear that she is genuinely altruistic and puts a lot of work into adventuring to help other people, despite her Friendless Background suggesting that the world has not been so kind to her.
- Improbable Aiming Skills: An eyepatch and the resulting loss of depth perception doesn't hinder her skill with a bow one bit.
- Internal Homage: Like many of the other Mondstadt characters, her unique Party Setup animation is a reference to her portrait
. - I Reject Your Reality: The "Summertime Odyssey" event reveals that she has shades of this, and her character arc therein focuses on her learning to confront her reality as Amy. After finishing the second volume of The Hymn of the Holy Land, the Traveler and the rest of the group, sans Amy, are teleported to a hallway where they listen to her trying to get her parents to roleplay as they celebrate her birthday, only for them to tell her that she's growing too old to keep indulging in her fantasies. The final volume has Amy confronting an Anthropomorphic Personification of her insecurities, but with help from Oz, she's able to accept her flaws, and merges with Immernacht Fischl.
- Kindhearted Cat Lover: During the "Feline Fortress Furrdyssey" event, she makes friends with Dopey, a constantly curious cat. A later birthday mail sent to the Traveler reveals that she ultimately adopted Dopey.
- Lady of War: She wants to be this more than anything in the world. And she is certainly not untalented, but her ambitions are... a bit loftier than reality at present, not to mention how much scenery she chews.
- Large Ham: Given her tendency to weave even the simplest of things into a tale of mythical proportions thanks to her enlightened state, her hamminess requires a little simplification via Oz. Even her giving well-wishes to a man stuck in deep sleep feels closer to delivering an obituary.
- Leotard of Power: Fischl's default outfit is a sheer lingerie leotard with a corset. Since no one else in this game wears anything like that, it seems a bit too much, which helps establish she's playing pretend and isn't as mysterious of an Anti-Hero as she claims.
- Literal Split Personality: In the "Summer Fantasia" event, Amy's self-loathing manifests as a doppelgänger called "Immernacht Fischl," who calls out her refusal to face reality, seizes control of Oz, and declares that the Immernachtreich is a tomb for those who cannot face reality. Fortunately, Immernacht Fischl is defeated when Oz convinces Amy to accept her flaws, allowing the two of them to undergo a Split-Personality Merge.
- Lost in Character: Subverted. All those entries about her character go to show Fischl does the equivalent to full time-LARP, but she does it to cope with growing up with absentee parents and no friends, with only fantasy stories for company.
- Magical Eye: She claims the eyepatch over her left eye covers an "Eye of Judgment." So far, there is no clarification as to whether it is true.
- Meaningful Rename: "Fischl" is not her real name, having based it on a character named "Fischl von Luftschloss Narfidort, Prinzessin der Verurteilung" from Amy's favorite book series when her father called her "Fischl" after knowing how she loved the story so much.
- Minidress of Power: Fischl's "Ein Immernachtstraum" alternate skin changes her outfit from a sheer leotard to a purple-and-white dress with a sheer skirt to fit the fairy-tale princess theme.
- Mirror Character: Furina resembles Fischl closely, with high theatrics covering their emotional vulnerabilities. They also both work in intelligence, but while Fischl is an agent for the Mondstadt Adventurers' Guild, Furina is The Spymaster. They also both summon animal-like creatures in battle. The big difference between the two is while it is obvious that Fischl is pretending to be someone she isn't, it took 500 years for people to realize that Furina is pretending to be an Archon. Neuvillette plays a similar role to Furina that Oz does to Fischl, reining her in when she overplays her ability.
- Ms. Imagination: After a pep talk in the "Summer Fantasia" event, she identifies her imagination to be her greatest strength, and the depth of her fantasies and how they come to life during that event lends some weight to that idea. The Immernachtreich is far more detailed than the other mirages. The Night Raven statues all have their own personality, and even after the characters leave the domain, Amy continues to exert her influence on the surrounding environment as "Fischl." A play is staged in her honor by the Night Raven statues, and there are still puzzles to solve and NPCs to talk to. All this in spite of the fact that the others' influence was limited to their domain and the terrain of the island it was on.
- Nice Girl: Underneath her grandiose, thetrical exterior, Fischl still shows to be a kindhearted, caring girl who has no trouble rubbing on her friendliness to those who get to know her better. Some of her voice lines reveal that she worries about the people she makes friends with when traveling, especially if that person's name is Bennett.Fischl: "I do worry about the well-being of my retinue during my impromptu absence..."
Oz: "I'm sure the good people of the Adventurers' Guild are absolutely fine, mein Fräulein." - Noblewoman's Laugh: She uses these as an affectation on occasion.
- Occidental Otaku: Played with. While Genshin Impact is set in a fictional world, Fischl fits this trope, as while she hails from Mondstadt (which is loosely inspired by Germany), her favorite novel, Flowers for Princess Fischl, is a light novel from the Yae Publishing House in the Japan-inspired Inazuma.
- One-Steve Limit: In-Universe, according to her fourth Character Story, her father renamed her from "Amy" to "Fischl" after she read to him the story of "Fischl von Luftschloss Narfidort, Prinzessin der Verurteilung." However, the sixth volume of Legend of the Shattered Halberd mentions the Divine Halberd which is also named "Prinzessin der Verurteilung." This implied that Flowers for Princess Fischl, the book from which Amy took her alias, is a sequel to the Legend of the Shattered Halberd series, which was later confirmed when it became possible to pick up Volume 0 of the former series at the Yae Publishing House. The wildly different setting is explained away as the result of in-universe Canon Welding.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Following the second part of the "Summer Fantasia" event, Fischl becomes visibly anxious as it's revealed that the Mirages that grant wishes also expose the subject's insecurities, something Fischl doesn't want to share. Her sudden desire to investigate her Mirage alone instead of sharing it with the rest of the group clues them in that something is wrong, as Fischl would've roped everyone into it otherwise. In fact, that's why she took them to the Golden Apple Archipelago in the first place. And sure enough, Amy's insecurities run deep, enough to get an Anthropomorphic Personification of them (though to be fair to Amy, she wasn't expecting that one, either).
- Out-of-Character Moment: There are a few times where Fischl's flowery, larger-than-life persona will falter, and Amy will suddenly pop out temporarily. Such moments are usually Played for Laughs.Fischl: (When Thunder Strikes) "Hark! 'Tis Thundering Retribution, an omen of dark times ahead..."
Oz: "That, and... mein Fräulein's laundry is still on the line..."
Fischl: "Wha...! Seriously!?" - Perky Goth: She certainly dresses the part with her dark gothic lolita aesthetic, but is otherwise a friendly young girl.
- Powers Do the Fighting: Using her powerful imagination, she was able to create Oz, which is the manifestation of her Vision's power, and she can summon him to fight for her in battle, most notably doing so for her Elemental Talents.
- Purple Prose: She's prone to using overly fancy wordage than is necessary to converse. It's to the point that others, mainly Oz, created guides to help decipher just what she's saying. This habit of hers is so strong it even leaks into the normally dry Talent descriptions, with lines like "the dark lightning spirits of Immernachtreich shall heed the call of their Prinzessin and indwell the enchanted arrowhead."(Chat: Whispers of Destiny) "I hear the voice of fate, speaking my name in humble supplication."
- Really 700 Years Old: As ever, she claims that "as [Teyvat] reckons it, I have seen three thousand winters." Oz is swift to point out that, as far as "this world" is concerned, she is not yet of drinking age and she will never convince a bartender otherwise (with the implication he would not let them be convinced).
- Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: In a hilarious bit of irony, Fischl's real name, Amy, is also the name of the eleventh demon
of the Ars Goetia, meaning she has a Goetic name much like the Archons and other gods in the game. Amy the demon was described as a President of Hell who procured familiars and had the bizarre and futile hope of returning to heaven, much like how Fischl is accompanied by her familiar Oz and claims to come from a destroyed world she seeks to restore. - Royals Who Actually Do Something: Claims to be the "Princess of Condemnation", a royalty from a kingdom in another realm. The accuracy of that claim is up to debate, though her ability to kick ass is not.
- Secret Identity Vocal Shift: Of a sort. "Fischl" speaks in a rigid, perfectly enunciated, formal tone full of Purple Prose. Amy, on the other hand, sounds like the teenage girl she really is, with the diction of an average Mondstadter.
- Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: Fischl's speech pattern when on-character is entirely long and eloquent verbose sentences that make it difficult for people to understand her without Oz to translate on her behalf. Fischl even calls this manner of speech "Fischlspeak." The only time she does drop her verbose speech is during her O.O.C. Is Serious Business moment against Immernacht Fischl in the "Summertime Odyssey" event, where she had to briefly drop her Fischl persona in order to face her insecurities head-on.
- Shut Up, Hannibal!: Delivers one to Immernacht Fischl during the "Immernachtreich Apokalypse" chapter in Summer Fantasia after the latter tries to bring's Amy self-confidence further down, but is roused back by her friends and reaches "Fischl"."...Do you still think I'm going to lose? [...] You looked down on me. You thought I was a worthless coward. And yes, I did use to be like that, because... I am someone who can't face reality, who spends all day daydreaming, and can't cope with setbacks or criticisms. But now I understand. I understood as soon as I first laid my eyes on this mirage. Do you see that incredible world out there? So vast, so breathtaking... that is my imagination, the source of my power. You act so arrogant under that dark cloak of self-obsession. But that's not your true nature. You're no Prinzessin. You're just a narcissistic speck of dust hiding in my shadow! You are the true loser, the one who's holding me back! [...] You hide your fear and cowardice behind a facade of thorns and self-loathing. You are far weaker than me."
- Split-Personality Merge: At the end of the fourth act of the "Summer Fantasia" event, Amy confronts her self-loathing, which has taken on the form of a Literal Split Personality called "Immernacht Fischl." Oz is ultimately able to convince Amy to accept her flaws, allowing her to absorb "Fischl" into her being and change into the outfit the latter was wearing.
- Sprint Shoes: Whenever Fischl fuses with Oz for her Burst, her movement speed significantly increases.
- Stripperific: Again, as explained in Age-Inappropriate Dress, her outfit is mostly made from a sheer leotard that otherwise bares her front and shows she doesn't wear a bra, so the most notable cover she has is what looks like a corset and panties. And she wears this when working under the Adventurer's Guild. It's a miracle no one has called her out on it.
- Supreme Chef: According to Mona, Fischl's signature dish, Die Heilige Sinfonie, is absolutely incredible, to the point that she attended Weinlesefest to pick up food that is cheap and easy to prepare so she can pay her back. Fischl responds that the dish is only a small sample of her culinary skill, and Oz supports this. This isn't reflected in gameplay—every character has a signature dish outside the Raiden Shogun, including characters who are Lethal Chefs like Amber, and Fischl otherwise doesn't receive any particular benefit when she cooks a dish.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: Who is this "Amy" that her parents speak of in her trailer? She is definitely not her, no no—she's Fischl, the Prinzessin der Verurteilung.
- Translation: "Yes": The adventurers have a "Fischl Dictionary," an in-joke "book" that translates her profound and lengthy sentences into something more concise. Her second Character Story has examples of these.
- Trapped in Another World: Fischl claims to hail from another world. It is questionable, however, given her personality.
- Troperrific: Fischl is meant to be a massive ball of chuunibyou and isekai tropes for the purpose of comedy.
- Vague Age: She could easily pass for a young woman, yet she still is not old enough to drink alcohol, meaning she must still be in her mid-teens.
- Notably, Fischl is one of the few characters to have an "anchor." She received her Vision at age fourteen; as no new Electro Vision has been handed for a year before the Traveler's arrival, this makes her no younger than fifteen years old. There are some indications that the game also takes place in real time, as the Lantern Rite has been noted to be an annual holiday, as it's the setting's equivalent of the Chinese New Year, and in addition characters send players birthday letters each year. Assuming time does fly in real-time, as of writing (v5.6) Fischl should be nineteen (and thus legally an adult), and the only reason it's still vague is that it's possible that players started the game later. Even then, version events are indicated to have occurred regardless, the Traveler just wasn't there. This makes Fischl an unusual example, where she is not canonically an adult, but should be if the player started early enough. A single reference to real time during the story would be enough to settle things, but the game rarely goes into specifics.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: With Mona. She bickers with the astrologist quite a bit during the "Summer Fantasia" event, with Mona grumbling about the roleplay and Fischl responding in kind with verbal barbs at Mona's expense. Despite this, the two of them are deceptively close, as when Fischl's mood slips Mona is immediately ready to provide emotional support. Fischl has also invited Mona home for dinner with her parents a number of times, showing how much she enjoys Mona's company.
- The Von Trope Family: "Fischl von Luftschloss Narfidort", of course!
Tropes exclusive to Oz
- Affectionate Nickname: Fischl's Character Stories mention that her raven's full name is "Ozvaldo von Hrafnavins." She just calls him "Oz" for short. She also calls him "Ozzie" in a playable voice-over, to his confusion.
- Ambiguous Situation: His very nature is unclear. What is known is that he appeared before Fischl for the first time alongside her Vision. Whether he really is a genuine living being, or simply an apparition created by either her imagination or her Vision or even both is unclear. If the latter is the case, then there's the question of whether he is fully sentient and has a will of his own, or if he reflects Fischl's subconscious.(Fischl's Vision story entry) "So, is Oz just an imaginary friend who only exists as a figment of Fischl's subconscious? Our story begins with the royal heirloom, Edelstein der Dunkelheit — that is to say, Fischl's Vision. When her wish was acknowledged, the raven Oz and her Vision both appeared before her eyes."
- Although it's not dwelled on long enough to be pointed out directly, one branch of Heizou's Hangout Event tree provides a potential explanation, where he mistakenly identifies Paimon as a "Voice," an external magical focus/voice box, not unlike what Oz is to Fischl.
- Baritone of Strength: Oz has a pretty deep voice in all four languages, with the badass part coming from his strength as an Assist Character.
- Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Needless to say, Oz often has his hands full keeping Fischl from getting too over-the-top. He also takes it upon himself to try and "translate" occasionally when her flights of fancy take her particularly above the clouds.
- Familiar: Oz is a classic example, bound to Fischl and completely loyal to her, as well as having magical powers of his own.
- Identical Stranger: Oz looks suspiciously similar to Kanna Kapatcir, the thunderbird goddess of Tsurumi Island in Inazuma, possibly hinting at a connection between them. Given that the Flowers for Princess Fischl series is published and sold in Inazuma, and judging from Kanna's appearance in a flashback to the Raiden Shogun's past, it is implied that the appearance of the Oz of the books may have been based on Kanna.
- Loyal Animal Companion: Oz is a sentient, speech-capable raven familiar who can carry Fischl around and help her both in combat and with her investigations. He is also quite loyal and perfectly polite and respectful, referring to Fischl as "Mein Fräulein" and going along with Fischl's antics. He also must remind her to deal with the more boring parts of her duties occasionally and keep her on track and not too carried away. This loyalty becomes suspect during the "Summer Fantasia" event when he opts to side with "Immernacht Fischl" over the original, but he then explains that he did so because both of them are the same person and convinces Amy to accept her flaws. This proves that he is faithful to her, and he solves the problem in the process.
- Moment Killer: It's a Running Gag that Oz will translate even when Fischl is trying to be dramatic and doesn't want him to.
- Powers Do the Fighting: He's the manifestation of Fischl's Vision power, and she's able to summon him to fight for and defend her in her playable unit, most notably doing so in her Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst.
- Satellite Character: Zig-zagged. Oz, who was created from Fischl's Vision to serve as her servant, doesn't have many motivations aside from serving Fischl, though he does have his own thoughts and personality and is able to interact with others even when she isn't around.
- Servile Snarker: As loyal as he is to Fischl and as willing as he is to go along with her antics, Oz also has a tendency to sass back at her to keep her delusions at bay.
- Sizeshifter: Oz can change his size, if Fischl's Burst is any sign; he is larger than an eagle during that maneuver, but otherwise he is the size of a typical crow.
- Talking Animal: Oz is a talking raven who also speaks using German phrases like Mein Fräulein ("My lady").
- Temporarily a Villain: Midway through the "Summertime Odyssey" event, he defects to Immernacht Fischl after she calls him forth to her side. This, however, was in an attempt to help Amy by teaching her to accept her true self. He then helps Amy reconcile with her "Fischl" persona through a Split-Personality Merge, and reunites with her once more.
- Thunderbird: Oz is one and invoked mechanically for Fischl's Elemental Talents. At full expression, he's also pretty big for a raven—Fischl stands at about five feet or so, and Oz, when he merges with her during her Burst, has a wingspan a decent bit longer than she is tall, which makes him a fair bit bigger than any real-life corvidae and takes him more into the territory of eagles and other large raptors.
- Translator Buddy:
- Oz is there to translate Fischl's complex and fantastic vocabulary into simple sentences that others can easily understand.Fischl: "I, Fischl, Prinzessin der Verurteilung, descend upon this land by the call of fate an— Oh, you are also a traveler from another world? Very well, I grant you permission to travel with me."
Oz: "She means 'Nice to meet you.'" - During the "Unreconciled Stars" event, he even briefly reminds Fischl that not everyone can understand what she is saying. Paimon is also curious of the duo's relationship, lampshading this trope:Paimon: "Ooooh, so that's what you're for? To translate?"
- Amusingly, this gets inverted during the final part of the event, when Fischl accidentally drops her Chuunibyou speech and talks normally, getting embarrassed when Paimon points this out. Oz hastily tries to cover her by re-translating her words back into her usual vocabulary.
- Oz is there to translate Fischl's complex and fantastic vocabulary into simple sentences that others can easily understand.
- Undying Loyalty: No matter how chuuni she can get or what the circumstances are, Oz will be there for his Fräulein, much like how Paimon will be there for the Traveler.
- Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Other than Paimon of all people, nobody takes any special note of Oz, even though he is a raven that can grow in size, glows with Electro energy, and is as intelligent and articulate as a human. It is a bit surprising given that familiars do not seem to be a particularly common thing in Teyvat, for all its general weirdness.
Tropes that apply to Immernacht Fischl (Unmarked Spoilers!)

- And Your Reward Is Clothes: This version of Fischl was unlockable through the Summer Fantasia update by collecting enough Echoing and Imaging Conches scattered throughout the Golden Apple Archipelago, and is purchaseable from the Character Outfit Shop from v3.0 onwards.
- Anthropomorphic Personification: This Fischl is the embodiment of Amy's self-loathing within her mirages.
- Arc Villain: Serves as this for "Immernachtreich Apokalypse".
- Break Them by Talking: Immennacht Fischl does this to Amy by pointing her out about her deep insecurities and how she hides her self-loathing behind her alternate persona, calling her weak. This hits Amy's self-confidence, requiring her friends to rouse her back up.Mona: "Hmph. You're not going to admit defeat, are you?"
Fischl: "...I hate to admit it, but... she might be right..." - Elegant Gothic Lolita: Her appearance being based off of Fischl's Ein Immernachtstraum skin makes her this by default, with her dress looking very renaissance-era like.
- Enemy Without: She's the embodiment of Amy's self-loathing over her unspoken belief that her Fischl persona is a lie she uses so that she doesn't have to face reality.
- Evil Doppelgänger: She is essentially Amy's dark side, and she is able to take control of Oz from her. That is until Oz reveals that it was part of a test to see Amy's growth.
- Fashionable Asymmetry: Notably wears her stocking on her right leg instead of her left one like Amy does.
- Hypocrite: She breaks Amy down by talking about her cowardice and inability to face reality, yet becomes exactly as cowardly as she claims her to be when the former, with her confidence restored, confronts her. Amy's counterspeech even lampshades Immernacht Fischl's ego being a cover.
- Jerkass: Immernacht Fischl is more arrogant and haughty than Amy is as "Fischl," brushing off her claims. Even after she's confronted by the latter after her confidence is restored, Immernacht Fischl insists on calling her a loser and a coward.
- Jerkass Has a Point: While arrogant about it, her claim that Amy hides her insecurities by roleplaying as Fischl remains reasonable, given Amy refuses to be recognized as such and instead always insists to be referred to as Fischl.
- Literal Split Personality: This form of Fischl is the manifestation of Amy's insecurities and self-loathing, calling out the latter for her refusal to face reality, seizing control of Oz, and declaring that the Immernachtreich is a tomb for those who cannot face reality. Oz, however, is ultimately able to convince Amy to accept her flaws, allowing the two of them to undergo a Split-Personality Merge within the mirage.
- Minidress of Power: Wears the Ein Immernachtstraum dress, which is a purple and white dress with a sheer skirt.
- Orcus on His Throne: Is too happy to remain in a higher part of the library within Amy's memories, taking Oz for her side and berating her from there. The latter eventually reaches her, though.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Successfully breaks Amy with one of these about how bad her life is, considering she hides her pain and refuses to accept reality."What gives you the impression that you can defeat me? You should know, over the past few days... I've seen all of your fear and trepidation. [...] You are gravely mistaken if you presume the Immernachtreich to be some kind of amusement park. Listen closely... it is a tomb for those who cannot face reality. You will be buried here, and I will take Oz, the product of our imagination, and live forever in the royal castle. [...] Why does it always rain in the Immernachtreich? Why isn't there any music in this so-called paradise? [...] You dreamed up a vast kingdom, but you can't bear its weight. Swayed by fear, you can't face the very world you've created. You may try to avoid it, but the fact is: You can't change yourself. I came here in your stead precisely because you failed to show up. The Immernachtreich is now mine, and it is not your place to tell me what to do! [...] ...Oh, so you've made some friends. But do you really think that's enough for you to defeat me? I am your fear, your dark side. I am the nightmare from which you have never escaped in all these years. Standing before me, you are nothing."
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Played with. Unlike Amy, Immernacht Fischl has red eyes, and while she's a jerk at best, she's still the Arc Villain for Fischl's chapter.
- Smug Snake: Sure enough, even after Amy's friends rouse her back up, Immernacht Fischl claims how it's not enough to defeat her.
- Split-Personality Merge: The way Immernacht Fischl is defeated. After Oz reveals his defection was ultimately a Secret Test of Character and is able to convince Amy to accept her flaws and be herself. Amy thus absorbs "Fischl" into her being, changing into the same dress that Immernacht Fischl wore when they merge.
- This Cannot Be!: Isn't amused at all that Amy and co. were able to reach her through the library.Immernacht Fischl: "Impossible! How did you make it through that nightmarish library... stand down!"
- This Is Reality: Gives Amy a dose of this during her "The Reason You Suck" Speech, on her inability to cope properly with reality.
- The Unfought: She is never fought during the entire act of "Immernachtreich Apokalypse", despite being the Arc Villain.
- The Usurper: Claims to become this for Amy's memories, after claiming the latter failed to show up to bear the weight of "her kingdom".
Cat's Tail
A tavern famed for its alcoholic drinks brewed (albeit reluctantly) by its young bartender Diona, as well as a popular venue for Genius Invokation TCG matches.Diona Kätzlein
Introduced: November 11, 2020 (v1.1 "A New Star Approaches" [first half])
Voiced by: Ya Nuo (Chinese), Shiori Izawa (Japanese), Woo Jeong-shin (Korean), Dina Sherman (English)

Bartender of Cat's Tail and self-proclaimed "Wine Industry Slayer." Deeply embarrassed by the drunken antics of her father Draff, leader of the hunting bands of Springvale, she has set off on a one-girl crusade to sabotage Mondstadt's wine industry, busying herself with making bad-tasting alcoholic drinks, an endeavor often foiled by her concoctions seemingly being better than she would hope.
- Achilles' Heel: She shares Bennett's limitation of only being able to heal one character at a time with their Burst. This normally isn't a big deal since the only party member who's at risk of taking damage is the active one, but in situations where the entire party can take damage, her limitations become more noticeable.
- Amplifier Artifact: Her third and fifth Constellation upgrades, A-Another Round? and Double Shot, On The Rocks, add three levels to, respectively, her Burst and Skill.
- Animal Motifs: Cats, naturally. Being a Cat Girl aside, she works at the Cat's Tail Bar, has a pouch in the shape of a cat's paw, and her Constellation is a cat. Not to mention the palms of her gloves resemble a cat's paw, the bottom of her shoes have a cat's paw design, and if the way her shoes are designed is anything to go by, she also walks on the balls of her feet, similar to a cat.
- Badass Adorable: Diona is a cute little Cat Girl who, despite her age, is still good at using her bow. Her childishness is also reflected in the hop she makes at the end of the third hit of her Normal Attack, Kätzlein Style.
- Barrier Warrior: Her Elemental Skill, Icy Paws, shoots a pair of icy projectiles that home in on enemies; upon contact, they set up a cat's-head-shaped shield on the active character, with 250% efficiency against Cryo damage and lasts 1.8–2.4 seconds per shot landed; in its held form, after backstepping she fires five projectiles (thus extending the shield's duration to as long as 9–21 seconds) and increases the shield's Damage Absorption Bonus by 75%, in exchange for extending its cooldown time from six seconds to fifteen. Her first-ascension passive, Cat's Tail Secret Menu, allows the shield to increase the movement speed of the active character and reduce their Stamina consumption by 10%, while her second Constellation upgrade, Shaken, Not Purred, adds a 15% boost to both the projectiles' damage and the shield's Damage Absorption Bonus, as well as allows Diona to create a shield for any co-op ally with half the resilience of the main shield and lasts five seconds.
- Berserk Button: Praise for her drinks, because she wants them to taste horrible. At one point, Elzer pressed her button especially hard by saying that he wants to recruit her to Dawn Winery and help raise Mondstadt's viticultural profile even higher. She bit him in response.
- Bigotry Exception: Not exactly "bigotry" per se, but despite her hatred of alcohol, the people that drink it, and the people who manufacture it, she seems to have a high opinion of Lisa and gets along with Eula (although with the latter, players only have Eula's word for it, as Diona currently lacks a voiceline about her). The "Alchemical Ascension" event shows she is also capable of getting along with Venti who even provides her an idea of an alcoholic beverage that doesn't make people drunk, which she is completely in favor of.
- Bizarre Beverage Use: Her Elemental Burst, Signature Mix, has her toss a beverage mixer at enemies, releasing a freezing cocktail of alcohol to inflict Cryo damage, as well as generates a Drunken Mist field that, for twelve seconds, simultaneously damages enemies and heals allies in two-second intervals (hence six bursts). Her fourth-ascension passive, Drunkards' Farce, adds the ability to inflict a 10% Attack penalty on enemies; her first Constellation upgrade, Lingering Flavor, restores 15 Energy for her once the Drunken Mist dissipates; and her fourth, Wine Industry Slayer, also adds a 60% reduction to the charging time of Diona's aimed shots; and her sixth adds an HP-based Situational Sword effect.
- Black-and-White Morality: Downplayed. Her views on alcohol can be summed as "those who don't drink it or contribute to its production are good, while alcoholics, bartenders, wineries/brewers, and even bards who entertain drunkards are bad." Granted, she is shown to make exceptions for the latter, such as still caring about her oft-smashed father, getting along well with her employer Margaret, having a relatively high opinion of Lisa, being stated to bond with Eula, and even inviting Venti to taste test her drinks.
- Blessed with Suck: Her Character Story reveals that, on her seventh birthday, a spring fairy (later identified at the end of the "Waterborne Poetry" event as the Oceanid Callirhoe) blessed her so that her concoctions will always be "refreshing as springs of ever-melting snow," an encounter she kept dismissing as a dream. Because of this, her idea of trying to make disgusting booze that turns people away from alcohol always fails when she gets praised for her mixes instead, and she never realizes why, even after Callirhoe openly told her so.
- Broken Pedestal: Downplayed—her hatred for alcohol stems from her embarrassment at seeing her father Draff make a fool of himself while inebriated, but she still doesn't blame him or his drinking habits (she believes her father is faultless) as much as she blames alcohol itself.
- Captain Oblivious: Even though Callirhoe tells her upfront that she gave her that blessing, Diona fails to connect the dots and remains oblivious about why she keeps making delicious drinks despite all her efforts to fail.
- Cat Girl: Diona is a Kätzlein (although her in-game profile says she's only "inherited trace amounts of non-human blood"), evidenced with her feline ears and tail. When she stretches her body, she does so like a cat. Her bloodline makes her and her father skillful hunters. The patrons at Cat's Tail once thought the ears and tail are just her gimmicks for her job, but to their surprise, they found out that they are real. The Genshin Concert Promotional video
also shows that her hands, feet, and lower legs are cream white, implying that she has a fine layer of fur on her limbs.note - Consummate Professional: She's out to mix the worst drink possible using the weirdest ingredients available, but for some reason, she just won't cut down on her mixing standards. Can't have awful-looking, hastily-mixed drinks served to customers, after all.
- Cordon Bleugh Chef: She's to drinks what Xiangling is to food; the difference is that Diona does not intend her drinks to be anything close to tasty. This is, however, because of Callirhoe's blessing that made every drink she prepares delicious, making her incredibly popular with the the bar patrons, which just leaves Diona sighing in frustration.
- Daddy's Girl: Diona adores her father except when drunk, so much so that this is her motivation to destroy Mondstadt's wine industry.(About Her Father) "I adore my Daddy more than anyone else! He's the greatest! But... Daddy after he drinks, ugh... Argh! I must bring an end to the wine industry of Mondstadt, and soon! No time for chit-chat!"
- A Day in the Limelight: The "Waterborne Poetry" event partially revolves around her gift from Callirhoe and their shared history.
- Denial of Animality: At least in one of her lines, she insists that "she's not a cat" when she is catching butterflies, claiming that she is going to need them for her cocktails.
- Everyone Has Standards: Even with her vendetta against alcohol, there are lines that Diona won't cross.
- While she may want to destroy Mondstadt's wine industry, even she knows better than to let Klee near Cat's Tail.(About Klee) "Every time Klee wants to play with me, I take her somewhere far from the tavern. Alcohol and explosives... yeah, that's a dangerous combination! I mean, do I want to destroy the wine industry of Mondstadt? Yes, but not in that sense!"
- She is mortified when Chongyun's pure-yang spirit overloads from the spices in the drink she mixes for him. She only wants to scare people off from alcohol by making nasty-tasting drinks, not ones that could actually have health consequences.
- While she may want to destroy Mondstadt's wine industry, even she knows better than to let Klee near Cat's Tail.
- Foil:
- To Xiangling. Both are masters of their respective crafts despite their use of questionable ingredients, but where Diona was blessed by Callirhoe so that any drink she makes will always be outstanding, Xiangling earned her culinary chops through hard work. Diona also actively tries to make the worst drink imaginable while Xiangling strives to continually improve her skills. Finally, they form a Fire/Ice Duo with their Visions.
- To Chongyun. Both are youthful Cryo Vision holders who excel at their respective occupations thanks to a unique gift they possess, but which both of them take grievance with, with the key difference being their differing awareness of their gifts, as well as combat orientation (Chongyun being a melee unit, Diona ranged). Chongyun is an exorcist cautious of his overabundance of Yang energy and is mindful not to use them as a crutch lest he be caught unaware against powerful spirits, while Diona is a bartender who is largely unaware that her talent for making wine was a blessing by Callirhoe (and which she often dismisses as a dream).
- Forgotten First Meeting: As a child, Diona used to come out at night and talk with a spring fairy near of Springvale (later identified in the "Waterborne Poetry" event as Callirhoe). On her seventh birthday, she appeared to her for the last time and gave her a blessing to "have her cup always run over with sweet wine of celebration." Years later, Diona has forgotten her encounter, and whenever she does, she tends to dismiss it as a childhood dream, even when Callirhoe openly admits so.
- Furry Reminder: Her Kätzlein blood makes her behave like a typical cat. She's a Tsundere, a skillful hunter, likes to stretch like a cat, and walks on her toes
instead of the sole. - Gargle Blaster: She intended for her alcoholic concoctions to be so nasty, anyone unfortunate enough to drink it would swear off alcohol for the rest of their lives. Her results, on the other hand, turn out anything but the dreadful drinks she is trying to make.(About Chat: Thinking) "Lizard Tail, Pepper, Starconch... what else do I need to create the most dreadfully disgusting cocktail?"
- Hair-Trigger Temper: It doesn't take much to rile Diona. Of course, she'd have people believe she's very tolerant.
- Hypocritical Humor: In one route of her Hangout Event tree, Diona gives her usual spiel about hating alcohol and wanting to make disgusting drinks, but if the Traveler chooses to suggest that her cocktails aren't that special and that they'd prefer playing with cats to drinking them she'll be hopping mad.
- Irony: She hates alcohol and wants to ruin the wine industry in Mondstadt, hence her self-proclaimed title of "Wine Industry Slayer." The game describes her mixing methods as impeccable, and her bio states that she does not actually intend to make delicious cocktails. Therefore, her products are contrary to her goals.
- Invisible Parents: Her mother has never been seen in-game so far, but Diona's line about enjoying her cooking "last night" in Kaeya's Hangout Event tree shows that she's alive and seemingly well.
- Invocation:
- I Resemble That Remark!: In one of her voice-overs, when her cat instincts slip, she immediately claims she's not a cat... before meowing angrily and hissing.
- Jerkass Has a Point: While her Black-and-White Morality regarding alcohol can make her extremely rude and hostile to otherwise nice individuals just because of their willingness to drink or for simply having a job related in some way to alcohol, it's hard not to see Diona's point about Mondstadt's wine industry; combined with lax laws, its great influence led to widespread alcoholism, with more than a few characters being known addicts, with all the implications for their social lives and relationships:
- Nimrod has a severe drinking problem that he refuses to admit to under the reasoning that everyone in Mondstadt is a heavy drinker. This vice has already put his married life on the rocks, with Eury's heavy disapproval of his habits prompting him not to try and do something about it, but to do it behind her back. To add insult to injury, he'll often confess to his drinking to the nuns, only to get right back to it.
- Wyatt often gets so drunk he frequently loses his keys. Doesn't sound bad on its own, but whenever the Traveler helps him search for them, they're usually found near hilichurl camps, suggesting Alcohol-Induced Stupidity. And he never learns his lesson and cuts back no matter how many times the Traveler has to get them back for him.
- One branch of Diona's Hangout Event tree has her needing to rescue Draff because, similarly to Wyatt, he snuck into a hilichurl camp to get an ingredient for Diona after having only a "few drinks." Granted, he was able to pull it off, but it was still pretty boneheaded.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: An extremely grumpy girl who wants to destroy the wine industry despite the fact her retribution is misplaced and it's her dad to blame. That said, she's a Daddy's Girl and can sometimes show kindness to others (if in her own way).
- Kids Hate Vegetables: Her least favorite food is this. Somewhat justified given cats (and quite possibly Kätzlein, like herself) are carnivores."Carrots, potatoes, onions, tomatoes... yuck, I don't like the taste of any of those vegetables. In fact, I don't eat vegetables at all!"
- Lethal Chef:
- Subverted when it comes to drinks. Becoming a bad bartender who purposely makes bad drinks is her life goal; unfortunately, Callirhoe's blessing causes all her attempts at making bad drinks fall well below expectations, as her customers find them delicious. It's a telling sign when in one ending to her Hangout Event tree, the Traveler succeeds in making a truly terrible drink simply by following her instructions (when she can't, to her chagrin).
- It's played straight when it comes to food, though. In her and Xiangling's voice lines for each other, they exchanged knowledge of ingredients; while Xiangling's intentionally horrible combinations (as requested by Diona) are praised, Diona's recipes for Xiangling, naturally, end up awful.
- Misplaced Retribution: Daddy's Girl she is, Diona blames Mondstadt's wine industry and alcohol for Draff's drinking problem instead of his personal failings, and thus tries to destroy the industry by being a bartender that mixes bad drinks to turn people away from alcohol. Combined with how she thinks making people think alcohol tastes bad would turn the people away from it, this shows how childish her thought process still is.
- Money Multiplier: Played with. Her utility passive, Complimentary Bar Food, gives her a 12% chance to cook HP-restoring dishes twice.
- Odd Friendship: Downplayed given her dislike of anyone and anything alcohol-related, but during the "Alchemical Ascension" event she strikes an alliance with Venti to help look for new ingredients.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: According to her Vision story, after saving Draff from a heavy storm, she offered to mix him a drink to ease his injuries, and he gladly appreciated it. At her core, she still loves her father, even if she may not like to see him being drunk (and she still looked down on alcohol after that incident), and it was this devotion that earned her a Cryo Vision.
- Power Stereotype Flip: A Cryo Vision holder who, instead of distant and stoic, is a modern Harsh Tsundere.
- Red Baron: The self-proclaimed "Wine Industry Slayer."
- Situational Sword: Her sixth Constellation upgrade, Cat's Tail Closing Time, allows the Drunken Mist field generated by her Burst to confer either a 30% boost to allies' Healing Bonus whenever they have no more than half their HP, or 200 Elemental Mastery points otherwise.
- Sliding Scale of Gameplay and Story Integration: Befitting her food-related profession, her utility passive increases the food she produces.
- Springtime for Hitler: While Diona intentionally tries to mix horrible drinks to turn her customers off from alcohol, somehow they always taste great, making her an incredibly popular bartender. She only applied as a bartender as her first step in her plan to destroy Mondstadt's wine industry, which has only really had the opposite effect.
- Stock Animal Diet: Like typical cats, she loves fish.
- Strong Family Resemblance: Inverted. Diona looks nothing like her father Draff due to him using a generic Mondstat NPC model. They do, however, both have cat ears.
- Support Party Member: Diona offers a bit of everything—healing, low-cooldown cleansing, and low-cooldown shielding.
- Throw the Dog a Bone: While she will be forever hopeless in making a bad drink to drive people away from alcohol, the "Alchemical Ascension" event sees her gain an alternative goal with the help of Venti, who encourages her to make a beverage that makes people sober instead of drunk, which she may have an actual chance of succeeding at.
- Token Mini-Moe: Diona is, to date, the smallest of the playable Mondstadt cast outside the Knights of Favonius (and presumably among the youngest, with Klee from the Knights being stated to hail from a longer-lived race).
- Trrrilling Rrrs: In the English dub, Dina Sherman rolls her Rs whenever she can make a "purr" pun, such as saying "purr-fect" during the "Alchemical Ascension" event.
- Tsundere: A modern Harsh type, befitting both a rebellious young girl and a cat.
- She may sometimes show some "vulnerability" or speak about something nice, only to act harshly afterward to protect her dignity.(About Good Night) "Without cat vision, will you be okay walking home in the dark? If you need me to escort you... Huh? There's lights? ...wh-who said anything about escorting you? Go on now."
- In the branch of her Hangout Event tree where the Traveler helps her sneak into a hilichurl camp, she will show concern for the Traveler's safety while simultaneously denying said concerns:"D-Don't think that I'm worried about you. Because I'm not! If you get noticed, then I'll definitely be in trouble too. So just be careful, okay?"
- Her idolization of her father is often offset with her exasperation over his drinking habits.
- She acts like this towards the cats of her tavern as well. Despite routinely expressing how annoying they are and how irritating it is that some customers are only there to play with the kitties, it's noted that she understands each individual cat's personality very well, orders them custom toys and food, and personally cares for them off the clock.
- She may sometimes show some "vulnerability" or speak about something nice, only to act harshly afterward to protect her dignity.
- Unseen No More: NPCs talked about Diona prior to her addition in v1.1. These include her father Draff and distant ancestor Olaf following Xiangling's Story Quest, along with various advertisements for Cat's Tail specifically advertising her as their new bartender.
- Unknown Rival: While she despises anyone who drinks or has remotely anything to do with alcohol, she sees Diluc as her worst enemy due to him owning the largest winery in Mondstadt. He is largely unaware of her enmity, and is even surprised at the thought of another bartender who hates alcohol just like him.
- Unusual Hiring Practices: Margaret hired the underaged Diona as bartender just because her cat-like features were just too cute to not go with her cat-themed tavern.
- Vague Age: Diona looks like a child, talks like a child, and acts like a child, but she is a bartender, and the minimum drinking age in Tevyat is late teens or early twenties. It is possible that Margaret hired her despite being not yet of age, which is supported by the "Of Drink A-Dreaming" event, as while the Traveler is only allowed to brew non-alcoholic drinks, the reasoning has nothing to do with their youthful appearance. It helps that Diona likely never actually drunk her own mixes as she intended them to taste horrible. During the "Waterborne Poetry" event, Noelle hesitates to mention about the kiss between the spring fairy and the boy in the book Heart of Clear Springs with Diona listening because, she isn't sure whether Draff had given parental guidance on it, suggesting that Diona does look her age.
- Verbal Tic: In the Japanese dub, she often adds "-nya" at the end of her sentences.
Margaret
Proprietress of the Cat's Tail Tavern.- Kindhearted Cat Lover: She owns several cats, among which are Nelson, Paisley, Prince, Roger, and Butterfly.
- Shout-Out: Some of Margaret's cats are Prince, Roger, and Nelson, an obvious nod to Prince, and Paisley is named from one of his music albums and studios.
- Sure, Let's Go with That: When the Traveler, Paimon, and Sucrose come to the tavern to learn to play Genius Invokation TCG, Margaret tells Diona to teach them. Diona quickly declines, bemoaning that were the game to grow in popularity, so will the tavern's customers (and hence the number of alcoholics). Shuyun, "interpreting" Prince, assures her otherwise that the game will instead lead to reduced alcoholism as players would want to keep their wits about them, in a roundabout fashion leading to the decline of Mondstadt's wine industry Diona has been dreaming of. When a shocked Diona asks if that's true, Margaret quickly butts in with a "Sure, why not?" and ultimately convinces her to teach the trio.
Modern Lawrences
A disgraced aristocratic clan which once ruled Mondstadt with an iron fist until they were overthrown a thousand years ago in a rebellion led by Vennessa, who would go on to found the Knights of Favonius. With a handful of exceptions, most modern-day descendants dream of reclaiming their glory days.Eula Lawrence
The Spindrift Knight and the Captain of the Knights of Favonius' Reconnaissance Company, who's been disowned by her clan for joining the Knights.Lessig Lawrence
Eula’s cousin, who travels to Sumeru in the “Secret Summer Paradise“ event to search for a means of reviving their clan, prompting Eula to go searching for him.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He has the Clan’s natural self-inflated ego and obsession with maintaining his dignity at the cost of coming off as rude. However, his incidental self-discovery led to him thawing out to people his family would ordinarily talk down to and dropping his grudge against Eula for "betraying the Clan," even if he tries pretending it hasn't when she shows up.
- Meaningful Name: Lessig's name is a reference to Lawrence Lessig
, one of the founders of Creative Commons and an expert on intellectual properties. Given Eula's name, it appears to be a joke by HoYoverse on copyright and distribution of works. - Took a Level in Kindness: Eula’s comments before the Traveler met him suggests that he was just as charming as the rest of his family. By the time the cousins meet again, Lessig, while still somewhat haughty, appears willing to help other people and is capable of being polite to people the rest of their Clan would see as their lessers, much to her surprise. He reveals that this is because while he started it in an attempt to restore the Clan's prestige, his journey proved surprisingly eye-opening, having noticed how differently non-Mondstadters treated him due to not knowing or caring about his heritage, and came to prefer it to being hated and ostracized like he was used to. This caused him to realize how flawed the Clan is and abandon their notions of restoring their power, as well as mend his relationship with Eula.
- Uniformity Exception: Much like his uncle Schubert, he wears a variant of a Mondstadter outfit worn by wealthy residents, but tailored for members of the Lawrence Clan like him.
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Admits to being the cause of Veluriyam Mirage's backwards state, having touched the domain's core due to it reminding him of a gift he got from his grandfather when he was younger. This, alongside his new nicer demeanour, compels him to do what he can to help fix things.
Schubert Lawrence
- Big Bad Wannabe: He thinks he has the situation under control by working with the Fatui. Once things go pear-shaped, he quickly folds like a sheet of paper.
- Dirty Coward: Once his plans have been foiled, he tries to coerce Eula into betraying the Knights of Favonius. Eula puts her foot down causing him to back off.
- Entitled Bastard: He thinks that he can do whatever he wants because of how he’s descended from the old aristocracy. It never works due to how hated his family is.
- Faux Affably Evil: Once the Traveler learns how to "properly" speak to a noble, he starts acting like a halfway decent nice guy.
- Horrible Judge of Character: The Traveler wins his trust easily simply by sucking up to him with a few fancy words and culinary bribes. This is enough for him to let the Traveler in on his plan to take over Mondstadt with the Fatui's help, which the Traveler promptly demolishes.
- Mirror Character: With Kujou Takayuki. Like the Tenryou Commissioner, Schubert worked with the Fatui under the belief that it was for the good of their country. But whereas Takayuki did so to consolidate his power, Schubert did so to seize power. Likewise, Takayuki believed that the Raiden Shogun could dispose of the Fatui should they step out of line, while Schubert believed that he could get rid of the Fatui when he no longer needed them. Lastly, while Takayuki was, in his own way, loyal to his country’s god, Schubert had no loyalty to Barbatos.
- More Hateable Minor Villain: Compared to the Abyss Order and the Fatui, there’s nothing redeemable about him. While the Fatui are merely doing their duty in the name of country and Archon, and the Abyss Order are survivors of the Khaenri'ah Cataclysm, Schubert is a selfish, entitled Upper-Class Twit who wants to restore the Lawrence Clan to their former, tyrannical glory.
- Nostalgia Filter: A disturbing version. He decries modern Mondstadt's society because of their laid-back nature and will only happily reminisce the old days... where commoners live under fear, and anyone who doesn't treat the aristocracy (read: Lawrence Clan) with proper respect are to be given, in his words, "a swift whipping."
- The Quisling: He plans to sell out Mondstadt to the Fatui in exchange for restoring the aristocracy with him in charge.
- Uniformity Exception: He wears a variant of a wealthy Mondstadter outfit worn by Elzer and Connor, however his version is unbuttoned, has a necktie, and sports the Lawrence Clan's crest on his outfit.
- Upper-Class Twit: Rich, incredibly entitled, and incredibly stupid. To the point the Fatui view him as a naïve idiot.

Astrologist Mona Megistus
Introduced: September 28, 2020 (v1.0 "Welcome To Teyvat" [game launch])
Voiced by: Chen Tingting (Chinese), Konomi Kohara (Japanese), Woo Jeong-shin (Korean), Felecia Angelle (English)

An astrologer who uses water in her divination, whose wisdom is often offset by her constant difficulties with money. Though the Traveler has the option to first meet her before leaving for Inazuma while they and Fischl investigate a series of sleeping sickness cases seemingly related to a recent meteor shower, their most important contact was midway through the Traveler's journeys in Fontaine, where she guides them through the truth about the prophecy of the nation's watery doom.
- Always Accurate Attack: Like fellow early-game Hydro spellcaster Barbara, she summons water onto enemies rather than using a projectile through the combo and charged forms of her Normal Attack, Ripple of Fate. Combined with a kit focused on damage-dealing, this makes her a more credible attacker than Barbara.
- Amplifier Artifact: Her third and fifth Constellation upgrades, Restless Revolution and Mockery of Fortuna, add three levels to, respectively, her Burst and Skill.
- Astrologer: Mona's specialty. This also overlaps with her profession as a seer and is symbolized by her Constellation, an instrument used since ancient times
to chart the stars. Her voice line comments for the other characters mostly focus on the meanings of their Constellations, where she explains how they are related to the character's past or personality. She also makes stargazing a hobby. - Awesome McCoolname: Her surname, "Megistus," even in-universe, to the point where after Fischl's real name was revealed to be Amy, Kazuha felt a need to double-check that it really is her surname. She states that it's effectively a title that she took on after becoming her master's apprentice and that her actual surname is something else entirely.Kazuha: "Forgive me if this comes across as rude, but... is your surname truly Megistus?"
Mona: "Hmph, you think I was bluffing? My full title is and always has been "Mona Megistus, the Astrologist.""
Kazuha: "...my apologies." - Badass Adorable: Mona is an intelligent and endearingly tsundere, if comically cash-strapped, young lady who is also a very accomplished astrologist and can weaponize her hydromancy.
- Bilingual Bonus: "Megistus" is a Latinized form of the Ancient Greek megistos (μέγιστος), meaning "greatest."
- Borrowed Catchphrase: The Mages' Tea Party cinematic reveals that Mona borrows her "let me scry" catchphrase from her master Barbeloth.
- Brutal Honesty: Mona always tells the truth of people's fortunes, however unpleasant. Unsurprisingly, this earned her a bad reputation, and few people are brave enough to ask her for predictions these days.
- Butt-Monkey: Not to the same extent as Amber or Bennett, but the game plays her Perpetual Poverty for laughs. The times she tries to act haughty, the Traveler is given the choice to reply very snarkily. Then during the "Summertime Odyssey" event, she gets hit on by a talking statue.
- The Cassandra: The "Summertime Odyssey" event reveals that early in her career, Mona struggled with people coming to her for answers amidst difficult situations, as her refusal to lie means that more often than not what they needed to hear is rarely what they wanted to hear. As such, most clients would rather call her a fraud than face their problems head-on. Worse, she's met and advised people who had a choice in shaping their futures, but chose to tread paths that only lead to more suffering despite her warnings.
- Chekhov's Gun: In a back alley of Mondstadt, there is a house blocked by a circular magic seal. No one seems to know how to open it. By the end of Mona's Story Quest, she unseals it using her thaumaturgy and has since used it as her home and laboratory.
- Combos: Her second Constellation upgrade, Lunar Chain, gives the combo form of her Normal Attack a 20% chance to be automatically followed up with its charged form (sans the Stamina cost), triggered at least every five seconds.
- Cursed with Awesome: She does not appreciate her Vision much, considering its power irrelevant compared to the discovery of all the mysteries about the universe and often complains about how she always gets wet every time she uses it. However, she still recognizes its usefulness for most of her astrological purposes as a tool.
- Cutscene Power to the Max: During the "Unreconciled Stars" event, she teleports herself, the Traveler, Paimon, Fischl, and Oz to avoid an ambush from Scaramouche with almost no prep time.
- Damage-Increasing Debuff: Her Elemental Burst, Stellaris Phantasm, traps multiple enemies in a giant Illusory Bubble for as long as eight seconds. When the trapped enemies take a hit, they take additional Hydro damage, as well as marked with Omens for 4–5 seconds, during which their damage intake increases by 42–60%. Her first Constellation upgrade, Prophecy of Submersion, allows attacks against marked foes to inflict a 15% boost to Electro-charge, Vaporize, and Hydro Swirl damage for eight seconds, while her fourth, Prophecy of Oblivion, gives a 15% Critical Rate boost to attacks against them.
- A Day in the Limelight: She plays a prominent role in the latter half of the "Unreconciled Stars" event, to the point she is the Guest-Star Party Member in the last part. Afterwards, in the "Summertime Odyssey" event, she gets her dedicated island that explores her past struggles and her worldview.
- Defeat by Modesty: She once tried to look at Venti's Constellation through a scrying glass, then comes a sudden gust disrobing her.
- Developer's Foresight:
- Depending on which Quest the player finishes first, dialogue upon meeting her in her Story Quest and the "Unreconciled Stars" event changes to reflect whether or not the Traveler has met her before.
- It is possible to unlock her second Character Story entry before the first, as the latter requires players to have played her Story Quest first.
- Didn't See That Coming: Her astrology correctly tells her that the successor to her master's friend will appear to them shortly. However, said successor turns out to be Klee, throwing her for a loop, who inherited not so much her mother Alice's talents in astrology as much as bomb-making, meaning she cannot compare notes to help find the Traveler's sibling.
- Disproportionate Retribution: On the receiving end of this. She describes Venti in her voice line as a bard that ‘sits around doing nothing’, and questions what makes him is so interesting. When she tries to use her divination on him, she’s suddenly hit by gust of wind which threatens to disrobe her.
- Do Not Call Me "Paul": As seen on her "More about Mona - IV" voice line, she does not want people to call her "Meg" (a shorthand of her surname) simply because "Mona" is already sufficient for a shorter name.
- Draw Aggro: Her Elemental Skill, Mirror Reflection of Doom, summons a Phantom which for five seconds lures enemies away from the active character as well as damages surrounding foes in one-second intervals before ending in a watery explosion. The ability's description says that astrologists may have dreamed of creating phantoms of themselves to ward off ill fate, but Mona is known for making such a mockery of the practice. Her first-ascension passive, "Come 'n' Get Me, Hag!", allows her to automatically generate a Phantom whenever she reappears next to a group of enemies after using her Alternate Sprint for at least two seconds, with a two-second-long duration and half the damage of its "normal" counterpart.
- Elemental Personalities: Played with. Mona wields a Hydro Vision, and though she can be prone to some moody outbursts, she is quite adaptable. Her somber mood is usually in display when giving out divinations.
- Elemental Shapeshifter: Her plunging attack and Alternate Sprint, Illusory Torrent, turn her into a stream of flowing water, with the latter also allowing her to rapidly cross bodies of water at running, rather than swimming, speed.
- Eyelid Pull Taunt: Mona's Skill generates Phantoms that take the form of a cartoony rendition of her doing this to Draw Aggro.
- Fanservice Pack: Inverted; Mona received a more conservative costume starting v2.5 alongside Jean, Rosaria, and Amber. Mona's new short-legged leotard covered up her chest, but did turn her pantyhose into a Grade-A Zettai Ryouiki instead. Players outside the Chinese server get the option to swap between either outfit, but all cutscenes were later modified starting v2.6 to make her new outfit the default.
- A Fool and His New Money Are Soon Parted: She got a decent windfall of 20,000 Mora after helping Mr. Zhu, proprietor of the inn she stayed in during her trip to Liyue Harbor, find his wedding ring. Unfortunately, she made the big mistake of offering to treat both the Traveler and Paimon at the costlier Wangshu Inn.
- Girlish Pigtails: She ties her hair in high twintails, befitting her Tsundere attitude.
- Going Native: Downplayed. Mona is an ethnic Mondstadter, albeit born and raised at Dornman Port, where her parents live to this day, while she has since traveled the world with Barbeloth before setting up shop in the City of Mondstadt.
- Got Me Doing It: She gives off a Noblewoman's Laugh like Fischl after Paimon compliments her, showing that Fischl has rubbed off on her in some ways. Paimon then tells Mona to never do that again.
- Growling Gut: During her Story Quest, her belly growls for food on two separate occasions—after the Traveler defeats Slimes for her, as well as when they and Paimon take her out to eat at Wangshu Inn. Thanks to recklessly spending her money to further her career as an astrologist at the expense of her daily needs, flavor text says that embarrassing stomach rumbles are a recurring issue for her.
- Hair Flip: At the start of her Story Quest, she flips her hair when she realizes that the Traveler is not from Teyvat.
- Hartman Hips: She is very gifted in the lower body department, which her outfit accentuates.
- Their Name Really Is "Barkeep": Technically speaking, "Astrologist" is not her title, it's part of her name, considering that in the Chinese version, it's written phonetically as 阿斯托洛吉斯 Āsītuōluòjísī, rather than being translated into Chinese.
- Hit-and-Run Tactics: Mona moves very quickly with her unique dash, and her Skill (as well as her dash, upon unlocking her first-Ascension passive) summons a decoy, which combined with her kit's focus on Energy Recharge rendering her comparatively more fragile than other Hydro Catalyst units, encourages this kind of playstyle.
- Honor Before Reason: Due to her pride as an astrologer who cares more for mysteries and truths of life than worldly attachments, she never uses her divination for profit. In turn, she is often strapped for cash. She also refuses to see her own fate, as she fears that doing so can turn fate in on itself, which may have dangerous consequences.
- Hot Witch: As the various Fanservice tropes listed here demonstrate, she is a very attractive young woman (especially when wearing her original outfit), with her wizard hat giving her a classic witch look.
- Humiliation Conga: Her Story Quest is one long train of bad luck after another. She makes 20,000 Mora which she quickly burns after treating the Traveler and Paimon to a meal at the pricey Wangshu Inn. Then upon arrival at Mondstadt to find the protégé of her teacher's rival, said protégé turns out to be Klee, who was not taught astrology with which Mona will compare knowledge. Then, while finding the box her master Barbeloth asked of her, she reads a book from Klee's bag which, she learned belatedly, was her master's journal which she was forbidden to read. Out of fear of her master, Mona stays in hiding in Mondstadt and had to rent an apartment despite being broke.
- Interface Screw: Having Mona on the field would create a jingling ambient noise from her accessories. Unfortunately, this can interfere with the shimmering sound effect the Seelies make, which may make it harder to notice that one is nearby.
- Intergenerational Friendship: There is a (fairly loose) concept of generations in this game—characters tend to be grouped into Cast Herds with characters that are implied to be of similar age. Bennett's friends Barbara, Fischl, and Razor are all (nebulously) younger than characters like Jean. Mona initially rubbed elbows with Albedo more than anyone else, who is old enough to be a Captain of the Knights of Favonius at the very least, and she's a working professional who lives on her own. She shares the same mid-sized female body model as Barbara and Fischl, but so do characters like Keqing who are almost certainly young adults. This makes the friendship she developed with Fischl after the "Unreconciled Stars" event an implied example. Certainly, Mona has to take up the role of adult at times, as she did during the "Summertime Odyssey" event much later.
- Invocation:
- I Reject Your Reality: Inverted. She accepts reality for what it is, but the people who come to her for assistance often do not—whenever her prognostications lean negative, they refused to believe her, and called her a fake.
- It Was a Gift: Her Vision used to be a "teaching aid" given to her by Barbeloth; she treasured it well as it is the only proof of her apprenticeship. Then one day, said teaching aid somehow becomes a Vision.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She is very prideful of her astrologist powers and has an inflated view of herself, acting haughty when it comes to matters related to it. Outside of that, however, the worst Mona can get is a refusal to show weakness; otherwise she is approachable and loyal. For example, it doesn't take her too long to defrost to the Traveler, and after some time, is perfectly willing to go along with Fischl's antics.
- Know When to Fold 'Em: Her reaction to seeing Scaramouche is to turn tail and run (and take the Traveler and Fischl along in the process), noting that as a Fatui Harbinger, his power exceeds hers.
- Lady of Black Magic: A sensually dressed young aquatic sorceress who has mastered powerful forms of astrological magic.(About Venti) "[...] This wind... I can't open my eyes! No, my hat! Ah! My clothes, stop! The wind's going to strip all my clothes off! Make it stop, make it stop! ...alright, alright! I'll never do this again!"
- Leotard of Power: Her default outfit (prior to v2.5) was a leotard and pantyhose. It is still her gameplay outfit outside of Chinese servers, though.
- Let's Get Dangerous!: In the first few scenes of her Story Quest, she does little besides act haughty, boss the Traveler around, and try (and fail) to hide her financial woes. When a group of "merchants" try to offer her and the Traveler a cart ride to Mondstadt, however, she immediately recognizes them as bandits and gives them a verbal beatdown before chasing them off empty-handed. Her being able to fight catches Paimon and the Traveler off-guard.
- Living Lie Detector: Thanks to her talent in astrology, Mona can tell whether or not someone is lying to her. She uses this in her Story Quest when she exposes a group of bandits posing as merchants offering her and the Traveler a ride to Mondstadt. Her teacher Barbeloth, naturally, is also one; this is partly why she cannot go back to her after accidentally reading her journal against her explicit orders, and she will not be able to hide that.
- The Magnificent: She's called "Mona Megistus, the Astrologist" according to one of her voicelines. "Megistus" is also derived from the Ancient Greek word for "great".
- Making a Splash: She has control over the Hydro element. Unlike the majority of the cast, she practices Vision-less elemental magic in the form of hydromancy, which allows her to use water for divination even without a Vision. As she has no interest in the combat prowess provided by her Vision, she regards her Vision as little but a sentimental gift from Barbeloth.
- Male Gaze:
- Nearly every cutscene in her Story Quest has at least one scene where her large backside is front and center.
- The "Summertime Odyssey" event gives audiences a lingering shot of Mona's ass that actually zooms in as she walks away. This is right after the group first meets Arnold, a Living Statue infatuated with Mona, and the shot is implied to be his POV.
- Master of Illusion: Her Vision grants her the use of Hydro magic but many of Mona's moves take the form of luminous stars and the cosmos itself.
- Meaningful Rename: According to Mona, her master made her change her surname to "Megistus" upon becoming an apprentice as a signifier of her status. She states that if she herself ever takes on an apprentice then they'll also have to take on the name "Megistus."
- Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Mona is the first character who has a unique sprint, where after half a second she transforms into flowing water foams until she stops, at which point she sprays water at nearby enemies and objects. This allows her to Walk on Water without having to swim, but this sprint still consumes Stamina.
- Moment of Weakness: Because Mona usually tries to hide weakness by acting haughty, a way to put her on the spot is to point out her poverty or what she doesn't have. She's prone to making a lot of denials when someone does it.
- Money Dumb: Played with. Mona does live a relatively stable lifestyle, as evidenced by the "Summertime Odyssey" event in v2.8, but she ultimately spends it all on expensive equipment (or getting scammed), hence her constant Mora problems. In her "Troubles" voice-line, Mona also mentions the things she must pay, such as her residence's rent, equipment repair bill, and renewing her journal subscriptions. Then she has this to say..."...Ah, I'll pay off the celestial globe first, if I leave it any longer, they'll sell out and then I'll never get my hands on one..."
- Ms. Fanservice: Among the launch lineup, Mona had the most sexualized outfit, wearing a form-fitting leotard and tights, on top of having a pretty well-developed lower body, which the game tends to make brief focus on. Even after getting a more conservative outfit starting v2.5 (to comply with Chinese censorship laws), the "Summertime Odyssey" event in v2.8 still shows Arnold, a Living Statue, ogling her generous posterior.
- Ms. Exposition: She's the one formally introducing the Hexenzirkel and some of its members to the Traveler in permanent content (during the last part of the Fontaine Archon Quest).
- Mundane Utility:
- Her Alternate Sprint lets her rocket across bodies of water and, if she has unlocked her first-ascension passive, generate Phantoms whenever she reappears next to enemies after at least a two-second-long dash. Since it is both faster and more stamina-efficient than sprinting, it also sees use for just "running" from place to place.
- Defied when it comes to astrology. Mona explains that its principles forbid her from using it for mundane self-interest, which is part of the reason she has such a tough time making money.
- Inverted with her Vision. Mona largely considers the thing a useless bauble because it only bolsters her martial prowess and does nothing to help her fortune-telling abilities (i.e., it doesn't have any "mundane" use to her).
- Mysterious Past: Little is known about Mona's origins and how she became Barbeloth's apprentice, with her Character Stories and in-game appearances focusing on her experiences as an astrologist and her current lifestyle. The last part of the Fontaine Archon Quest at least reveals that she is a native Mondstadter, albeit from Port Dornman.
- Not So Above It All: While she typically presents herself as a refined young woman befitting her so-called status, she'll drop the demeanor whenever caught off guard, most commonly where Mora is involved.
- In the "Summertime Odyssey" event she challenges Fischl to a race after the latter insults her ability to swim. Instead of swimming, however, they end up running along the edge of the water. This shows that Mona is not above Fischl's childish games, as much as she insists otherwise. In addition, when the characters explore Fischl's mirage, the only other character who is as interested in the narrative as Mona is Paimon, to the point that the former throws a tantrum when the first volume of the story Fischl had written ends on a cliffhanger, though she loses some interest by the time they reach the final volume, having become more intrigued by the very nature of the Golden Apple Archipelago itself.
- The Phantoms she generates with her Skill (as well as her unique sprint through her first-ascension passive) are cartoonish illusions which give an Eyelid Pull Taunt to distract enemies. This, along with the name of said passive, showcases a more childish side of the haughty astrologist.
- Odd Friendship: With Fischl. After meeting in the "Unreconciled Stars" event, they've remained in contact and apparently hang out regularly. Though participating in Fischl's roleplay often makes her feel silly, she does think of her as a friend and hates seeing her in genuine pain and emotional turmoil.
- Older Than They Look: While she looks like a teenaged girl, Mona's actual age can be a bit ambiguous, though she is hinted to be at least old enough to drink.
- Perpetual Poverty: While the "Summertime Odyssey" event reveals that she actually has an affluent lifestyle, having a well-furnished home and an entire library full of expensive and rare books and apparatuses, Mona's tendency to splurge on said material (or at worst get scammed with overpriced or knockoff goods), in addition to her self-imposed vow never to put moneymaking above telling the truth, make her constantly strapped for cash, to the point where she had to forage and eat wild mushrooms for a month just to save Mora. One of her idle animations even has her check on her purse, then sigh upon discovering she has exactly one Mora coin.
- Prophecy Twist: Her prognostication correctly tells her to meet with the successor of her master's friend to complete her task, and even tells her when that individual is approaching. Unfortunately for her, it did not tell her what part of said friend's legacy the successor had inherited, so fate throws her for a loop when not by a fellow astrologist, but Klee, greets her.
- Reed Richards Is Useless: Mona is a gifted seer who could have used her abilities to make money, but she refuses on the grounds that astrology is a higher calling that should not be used for mundane purposes, hence constantly leaving her broke. During the "Summertime Odyssey" event she revealed that too often what she sees is not what her inquirer wants, but she refuses to lie, so making money off of her astrology would not be particularly simple.
- Resource Reimbursement: Her utility passive, Principium of Astrology, gives her a 25% chance to refund materials while crafting Weapon Ascension materials.
- Seers:
- Mona conducts precise astrological readings using water, and she can discern truth from lies, predict, or look at the fate or future of someone. The first time she meets the Traveler, she name-drops vital details like their otherworldly status, their search for their sibling, and the Unknown God. While she admits to having trouble with the Traveler's specifics since they are from another world, the fact that she knows those details at all without the Traveler telling her themselves is enough to convince them to hear her out.
- She uses her abilities during the "Unreconciled Stars" event, both to find when and where meteorite impacts occur and to discover the true origins of the event.
- Sexy Backless Outfit: Though it's covered by her cape, Mona's leotard leaves her back exposed.
- Shameful Strip: In her "About Venti" voiceline, Mona attempts to do a reading on him to figure out what's so special about him. She's immediately attacked by a localized tornado that starts stripping off her clothes until she promises to never do it again.
- Situational Damage Attack: Mona's sixth Constellation upgrade, Rhetoric of Calamitas, boosts the damage of her first charged attack within eight seconds after the end of her Alternate Sprint, at a rate of 60% per second of her sprint (to a maximum of 180%, achievable with at least three seconds of sprinting).
- Skilled, but Naive: In a way. Her Character Stories say that she has learned the "laws that governed the existence of all things" during her time with Barbeloth, but after setting out, she started to doubt the things she learned, as she found out that good things and deeds can come from "bad people." After that, she felt that she had her feet on solid ground, and that what she had researched was full of holes.
- Small Name, Big Ego: She is a gifted astrologist, but even then, she has a very inflated view of herself.
- She introduces herself as Mona Megistus, meaning "The Great Astrologist Mona," and seems to expect preferential treatment from everyone she meets due to her fame (though nobody seems to have heard of her). Most tellingly, she considers herself and the Traveler to be equals in status, despite having nothing in her résumé remotely on the same level as saving nations from calamities and rubbing elbows with gods. The events of her Story Quest knock her down a couple pegs.
- This gets inverted after that Quest, as one of her Character Stories set after her move to the City she got a job writing an astrology column on The Steambird. The column became popular enough to keep being published despite it covering advanced subjects, and Mona's name rose in popularity along with it, enough that, during the Fontaine Archon Quest, she was invited into a forum discussing the prophecy of the Great Flood. Far away in Sumeru, Layla has even heard of Mona and has nothing but praise for her, explaining that she has become well-known and respected by her fellow Rtawahist scholars.
- Squishy Wizard: Played with, but she overall leans into this. Mona moves surprisingly quickly with her Alternate Sprint, has good damage output with her Burst, and her Skill (as well as Alternate Sprint, upon unlocking her first-Ascension passive), lets her Draw Aggro somewhere else. However, while Mona's Max HP and Defense are decent, none of her Elemental Talents scale off of the former, and her Ascension stat is Energy Recharge, which renders her surprisingly inept at taking hits. Compared to other Hydro Catalyst units, who are otherwise much tankiernote , and this encourages Mona to rely on Hit-and-Run Tactics.
- Stealth Pun: Mona practices magic and is able to cast elemental powers raw, similarly to Lisa, and the two's elements synergize to form Electro-Charged reactions, so it's not hard to see what their names form when put together.
- The Stoic: Invoked when giving out predictions. Mona relays the true outcome of her readings even if it is hard to accept; the game says that she lacks human emotions whenever this happens.
- Stripperiffic: Her original outfit's top is a leotard that emphasizes her breasts, back, and narrow waist, while the lower part is a pair of tights that emphasize her wide hips and legs. Though her hat ultimately makes it clear she practices magic, her whole outfit is still the last thing one would think a spellcaster/astrologer would wear. It's telling that she was among the characters redesigned with Chinese censorship laws in mind, and hers was the most drastic change by far.
- Symbol Motif Clothing: Both her original and alternate outfit prominently feature numerous star symbols, as befitting her profession as an astrologist.
- Tragic Dream: Mona's wish is for a perfect sky where the stars never lose their way—in other words, for everyone to be happy. She is well aware that this is impossible, so when she uncovers an Awful Truth through her divination she doesn't try and fight it. Given the skies of Teyvat are revealed to be fake, as explained by Il Dottore in Sumeru's Archon Quest, and shown at the end of Natlan's Archon Quest where Mavuika opens a rift in the sky, it probably doesn't help.
- Tsundere: A downplayed Harsh example on both types (Harsh and Sweet), as shown in her Story Quest and Serenitea Pot dialogue. Mona is really prideful, refuses to show weakness, and tries to hide her poverty by acting haughty. However, she's still a good person at heart, and has much less trouble at showing kindness than say, Diona.
- Mona initially spends the early acts of the "Summertime Odyssey" event grumbling about how silly she feels participating in Fischl's roleplay, but when the girl's mood falters at the end of the second act she tries to cheer her up, and is visibly concerned when Fischl heads off on her own before the third act.
- Tsurime Eyes: Her almond-shaped, sea-green eyes represent her prideful personality, and they fit with her being a passionate astrologist.
- The Unchosen One: Like Ningguang, Mona's Vision was not directly granted to her by Celestia but was a masterless Vision guarded for reasons unknown by Barbeloth before she gave it to Mona, hoping she would awaken it again and use it to expand her studies.
- Unexplained Accent: She has a transatlantic affect in the English dub where everyone else sans Xinyan has more neutral-sounding American accents. It emphasizes her erudite haughtiness but does not reflect her Mondstadter heritage.
- Utility Party Member: Her Alternate Sprint allows her to Walk on Water on sprint speed, rather than swimming.
- Vapor Wear: In both of her outfits, the side slit in her leotard under her arms show it's impossible for her to be wearing a bra.
- Water Is Womanly: A sensual, erudite mage and Hydro Vision holder in a Form-Fitting Wardrobe who uses hydromancy for her astrology.
- Weapon Specialization: For her 2022 birthday artwork, Mona is depicted wielding the Skyward Atlas (5★), which augments her Hydro damage-dealing potency through its Ascension substat of Attack (7.2–33.1%) and its "Wandering Clouds" passive, which increases its wielder's Elemental Damage Bonus by 12–24%, in addition to a 50% chance to conjure clouds that attack nearby opponents for fifteen seconds, triggered at least every half-minute and whose damage is worth 160–320% of its wielder's Attack stat.
- With Great Power Comes Great Perks: She only views her Vision as little more than a convenient tool for her divining, as she values the "truth" beyond the stars more than any sort of power, even those given by the gods. She does, at least, value it for being (used to be) a gift from her old teacher.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: During the fifth act of the Fontain Archon Quest, Mona travels to Fontaine because of The Prophecy but dips out early on before the plan to put Furina on trial is put into motion and is never seen again even after expressing a wish to help with the situation. She is likely fine given that she isn't Fontainian.
- You Can't Go Home Again: At the end of her Story Quest, Mona is unable to return to her master because she inadvertently read the latter's diary against her orders.
Venti / Lord Barbatos, the God of Freedom / The Anemo Archon
Introduced: September 28, 2020 (v1.0 "Welcome To Teyvat" [game launch])
Voiced by: Miaojiang (Chinese), Ayumu Murase (Japanese), Jung Yoo-jung (Korean), Erika Harlacher (English)

A mysterious bard who sings songs and poems of old and new tales. The Traveler first meets him soothing the dragon Stormterror, and later while trying to pacify the dragon's rage discovers that he is Barbatos, the Anemo Archon and patron god of Mondstadt, who has come to save his old friend, after which he struck a close friendship with the outlander.
To see more information about his role as Lord Barbatos, click here.
- Achilles' Heel: Enemies with high weight (such as mitachurls) cannot to be lifted vacuumed up by his Elemental Talents, limiting his moves' utility to Swirl.
- Added Alliterative Appeal: In the English localization, Venti is fond of these when describing people and things, such as calling the Pyro Archon a "wayward, warmongering wretch", the Geo Archon a "brutish, blundering buffoon", and cheese a "smelly, sticky, slimy" mess.
- The Alcoholic: He is very fond of both beer and vintage wine. During Jean's Story Quest, he gets very drunk on beer, and in his character profile he reveals a wish to steal from Diluc's stock.
- Ambiguously Related: In his trailer, and later on his Character Story, Venti is described as a "single thread of the Thousand Winds," an epithet of Ishtaroth, the Shade of Time. To date, it remains unclear whether he is one of her familiars (à la the Aranara or the Pari) that managed to ascend, an offshoot of her (similar to Nahida and Rukkhadevata), or even something akin to her son, considering Venti's limited control over time and his marketing drip calling him a "prodigal son". "Sunspray Summer Resort" answers the question that he's indeed related to her — sort of. As a wind wisp, he had an encounter with her, and Istaroth gave him a fragment of her power and authority over Time. But his answer doesn't explain if, by "a thread of the Thousand Winds", he means he holds a thread, or if he is the thread.
- Ambiguous Situation: Despite claiming to be the weakest of the Archons, Venti is still a millennia-old god capable of terraforming, so there's some ambiguity as to how much of his weakness when Signora attacked him for the Anemo Gnosis was deliberate, given that he did little but try to protect the Traveler, slowly break the ice encasing his legs, taunt her, and barely defended himself, not to mention that the lack of glow in his braids implies he wasn't even using his full power. Furthermore, according to Nahida, only the three foremost Harbingers have powers approaching the Archons, meaning the eighth-ranking Signora easily defeating him shouldn't even be possible. As to why the Anemo Archon would let his Gnosis be taken, it's also unclear whether he did so out of a desire to sever his remaining connection to Celestia without rousing suspicion, a tacit support for the Tsaritsa's agenda, a way to give Rozalyne closure for her lover Rostam's death for which she blames him, any combination of these factors, or some other cause.
- Amplifier Artifact: His third and fifth Constellation upgrades, Ode to Thousand Winds and Concerto dal Cielo, add three levels to, respectively, his Burst and Skill.
- Androcles' Lion: Considering Venti's profession as a bard, the backstories and lore of certain items hint that he is the "friend" who woke up Dvalin from a deep slumber using the sound of his lyre. It was also thanks to the ballads that the people of Mondstadt now remember Dvalin and his deeds after having forgotten about him for centuries. In addition, Venti and Dvalin once fought together to save Mondstadt from Durin.
- Badass Adorable: Venti is the Anemo Archon who is also a playful Pretty Boy.
- Become a Real Boy: His Story Quest goes deep into his backstory, revealing that he was once a wind spirit who befriended a young bard who sang of freedom and his desire to overthrow Decarabian's tyranny, through whom he developed his own personality and love of freedom; when the bard died during the uprising, the wind spirit that would become Barbatos assumed the latter's physical appearance in his memory.
- Becoming the Mask: Downplayed, in that it's obvious that he prefers his human identity as "Venti" to his true identity as Barbatos. He can be wise at times, but it is not a persona he likes to keep for long.
- Beware the Silly Ones: He is an alcoholic Loser Deity who gets no respect, which makes it easy to brush off his actions on the surface level. However, with close observation over time it becomes increasingly clear that he has many secrets and can be devious when necessary:
- As a wind spirit, he is associated with Istaroth, the Shade of Time, and has shown some control over time himself, such as when he summoned the voices of Rosaria's, Diluc's, Kaeya's, and Razor's parents during v3.1's Weinlesefest to stir their memories of them. His "Hello" voice line has him greeting the Traveler like an old friend while the Traveler themselves don't remember ever having met him, and claims to know every song past, present, and future.
- The Hexenzirkel once wanted to challenge him, but he managed to befriend them and now not only guards their secret tea party island, but houses the apprentices of three of the witches, Khaenri'ah's last hope, and even the book "the Pale Princess and the Six Pygmies," which the Abyss Order insist contains important information, on his land.
- The Gnostic Chorus cutscene
that plays for the Battle Pass is narrated by Venti, who tells the story of a princess led astray in her quest for a pearl and the prince who took her place. Then he speaks to an unidentified "you," which could be the Traveler, telling them that it is now their "journey, of (their) tale to be told." Though the significance of that cutscene has yet to be elaborated upon, the tale of the Gnostic Chorus eerily parallels the Traveler's lost twin becoming the Prince(ss) of the Abyss Order, especially if the Abyssal Twin is Lumine. - In v2.8's "Summertime Odyssey" event, before the Traveler can bring up the subject, he sings about the Golden Apple Archipelago to Kazuha and Xinyan, inspiring them to visit. After Kazuha gets sleepy drunk due to mistaking Venti's cocktails as fruit juice, Venti immediately gets to business and invites the Traveler to go to the second floor of Angel's Share to discuss the upcoming trip, as if he made sure they wouldn’t be overheard by someone with heightened senses such as Kazuha. Afterwards, when the Traveler and Paimon raise their concerns about someone (later revealed to be Nahida) hijacking the Dodocommunicator, he simply points out that her actions are benign and gently discourages them from making enemies with who they will soon learn is the Dendro Archon.
- Venti's Magic Music is more than just uplifting tunes; it's heavily implied that he uses his highly embellished ballads to record information he might otherwise forget due to alterations to Irminsul, just like Nahida is able to do so by use of allegorical stories. His music, or even any song dedicated to Barbatos, are also theorized to be powerful tranquilizers that keep the people of Mondstadt calm, as seen when he helps soothe Xiao's karma-driven torment.
- In her "When the Wind is Blowing" voice line, Arlecchino warns the Traveler to be careful with secrets, saying they can never know where the wind might take their words. Teyvatians believe the wind to carry such things as memories, ideas, thoughts, and souls, and the Tsaritsa, to whom Arlecchino answers, used to be friends with Venti and therefore must know (or at least suspect) that he can use the wind as a spying method. The v5.6 "Paralogism" event shows such suspicion is justified: Venti is able to use the wind to provide to the Knights of Favonius long distance communication throughout the entire city, and he's even able to keep such dialogue out of the ears of the invading monsters.
- The giant statue in his image located in the middle of the plaza is implied to be a Cool Gate to Celestia since the words "Gateway to Celestia" is engraved on it in the common Teyvatian script.
- At the end of Sunspray Summer Resort, Venti reveals how much he has been downplaying his abilities when he tells the Traveler about the real reason the Mare Jivari is considered a "windless" land: he blasted the region off from Teyvat's timeline during the Cataclysm.
- Big Damn Heroes: In the webcomic, he suddenly appeared in the gladiator arena to share his wind powers to Vennessa, allowing her to defeat Ursa the Drake.
- Blow You Away: He's the Anemo Archon for a reason. Venti was born a wind spirit, and following Decarabian's defeat, he used his powers to take the form of a bard he befriended. As Barbatos, his powers were strong enough to reshape the terrain and throw mountaintops far into the ocean, and it's implied they allowed him to heal Xiao.
- Braids of Action: He wears two braids at the side of his head. They glow bright teal when he uses his Burst.
- Brought Down to Badass: He has his Gnosis stolen by Signora at the end of the Mondstadt Archon Quest. This does not stop him from being highly competent in battle, and even without his Gnosis he can still perform some of his godly duties, as seen in his Story Quest where he lays the spirit of the original Stanley to rest.
- Cassandra Truth: In the second act of the Mondstadt Archon Quest, Venti openly tells Sister Gotelinde that he is Barbatos in order to access the Holy Lyre der Himmel. The nun does not believe Venti's words, thinking he is just a bard.
- Casual Danger Dialogue: When Signora captures him he never drops his amused and affable demeanor, insulting her several times through rhyme even after she takes the Anemo Gnosis.
- Change the Uncomfortable Subject: In the manga, when Vennessa asks him about Celestia, Venti is clearly unhappy and uncomfortable before quickly changing the subject to leaving the prison before talking about Celestia.
- Commonality Connection:
- In his Story Quest, Venti sympathizes with "Stanley"/Hans on account of both of them having taken on the identity of their deceased friends.
- While there is some ambiguity as to how much influence Archons have over the kinds of people who receive Visions of their element, several Anemo Vision holders, much like Venti himself, have lost loved ones in the past (e.g., Xiao's comrades-in-arms; Kazuha's mentor and friend; Heizou's childhood friend; Faruzan's peers, teachers, and mother; the Wanderer/Scaramouche's friends from Tatarasuna; and Chasca's younger adoptive sister Chuychu).
- Company Cross-References: He is a gender-inverted Wendy from Honkai Impact 3rd and its predecessor Guns GirlZ, having similar appearancesnote , names, and titles that allude to their wind powers and godly status (Anemo Archon and Herrscher of Wind, respectively).
- Corralling Vacuum: His Elemental Burst, Wind's Grand Ode, creates a vortex which continuously pulls in small- to medium-sized enemies, dealing twenty Anemo damage bursts and leaving them helplessly flailing about in the air for eight seconds, with the ability to change elements to either Hydro, Pyro, Cryo, or Electro (as well as a 50% damage boost) depending on which one it absorbs first. His fourth-ascension passive, Stormeye, restores 15 Energy to Venti once the vortex dissipates, as well as to any ally whose element matches that absorbed by the vortex.
- Covert Pervert: Implied. He's generally quite nice, if overly laid back and playful, but if his apparent response to Mona trying to look at his Constellation being to try and blow her clothes off is anything to go by...note
- Create Your Own Villain: Throughout his life, his hands-off approach has led to tragedy that could have been prevented had he been around to intervene:
- Because of his lack of presence, the Lawrence Clan began imposing an iron-fisted rule, burned down the majority of the Church of Favonius's scriptures in a library fire, turning the Ludi Harpastum into a corrupted version of itself to be enjoyed only be the aristocracy, and even having a slave caste made to fight in blood sports.
- During the Cataclysm, he failed to appear until after much damage had already been done to Mondstadt, including the death of Rostam, causing his lover Rozalyne-Kruzchka Rohefalter to fall into despair and become the Crimson Witch of Flames, and later La Signora, though if Rukkhadevata's testimony is any indication, he and all the other Archons were compelled by Celestia to prioritize the epicenter of the crisis at Khaenri'ah, forcing Venti to follow orders than to tend his own people and his nation as he normally does. At the end of Sunspray Summer Resort, Venti himself also reveals that he spent at least part of the Cataclysm banishing the Mare Jivari from Teyvat's timeline in an effort to quarantine the dangers spawning from within, suggesting that he may simply have been too preoccupied with protecting the whole of Teyvat.
- Cutscene Incompetence: At the end of the Mondstadt Archon Quest, the Traveler and Venti are ambushed by La Signora and her Fatui agents right outside the Favonius Cathedral. Even though they can go toe-to-toe with hordes of enemies during gameplay, it takes just two Fatui to restrain the Traveler and make them helpless to do anything other than watch as La Signora beats Venti down. He also does not get to attack Signora when he had the chance.
- Damage-Increasing Debuff: His second and sixth Constellation upgrades, Breeze of Reminiscence and Storm of Defiance, respectively reduce his enemies' Anemo Resistance by 12% and 20% when hit with his Skill and Burst. In addition, the former adds both a 12% Physical Resistance penalty and a further 12% penalty against enemies swept aloft, while the latter inflicts a 20% penalty to resistance against the other element absorbed by the vortex.
- Does Not Like Spam: He does not like cheese or anything sticky. Justified by his profession; as a musician, his instruments will be significantly ruined if he gets his fingers dirty, and the uncomfortable sensation would make playing difficult.
- Don't Fear the Reaper: In addition to being the God of Wind and Freedom, he also fulfills the role of ferryman for the souls of his followers, carrying their spirits away on the breeze so they can rest in peace. His Story Quest shows he uses a gentle hand, and his understanding of "Stanley"/Hans taking the identity of his friend and his intervention helps Hans finally overcome his guilt and grieving, with Venti even letting him see the real Stanley again before he moves on from the world.
- Drowning My Sorrows: In one of his voice lines, he empathizes with Zhongli's depowering and offers to bring him a bottle of vintage wine to share.
- Due to the Dead: His current form is based on the likeness of a young bard he befriended thousands of years ago, which he partly adopts in his honor after he died during their rebellion against Decarabian. It's a brilliant move on his part: not only Venti gets to remember his friend every time he looks in a mirror, but the bard's face is immortalized and associated with their patron Archon by Mondstadters, as seen by the statue at the plaza near Favonius Cathedral.
- Early-Installment Weirdness:
- Among the current playable Archons (not counting Furina and Mavuika to date), Venti has yet to receive a second Story Quest (which typically introduces a Trounce Domain boss) a few patches after his debut.
- Venti is, alongside Zhongli, one of the only two Archons to first run alongside a region's first frontline DPS character in the same update. Even more fascinating, as the first limited 5★ character, Venti ran in the first half, and thus before his region's first DPS character (Klee).
- Almost all playable Archons have Elemental Skills that apply their elements even when off-field. Venti is the sole outlier in that such an application is instead tied to his Burst.
- Elemental Personalities: The Anemo Archon is an approachable, carefree, coordial, talkative, and most importantly, free-spirited individual.
- Feather Motif: Venti is fond of light and breezy stuff, which causes his Anemo powers to manifest as feathers. He also carries some feathers near his belt, and his backstory mentions that he would've wanted to give an eagle feather to his deceased friend.
- Flashy Teleportation: While he doesn't use it much, the cinematic where he's interrupted from soothing Dvalin by the Traveler shows he's capable of disappearing out of thin air in a flash of Anemo energy.
- Flower Motifs: The Cecilia, a flower that only grows in windy places such as Starsnatch Cliff and has the shape of a triquetra
, a symbol of divinity found throughout the game, as evidenced by Venti wearing one on his hat and decorating his lyre with two. - Fluorescent Footprints: Midway through the Mondstadt Archon Quest, the Traveler and Paimon catch Venti running in front of the Grand Goth Hotel but lose him in a corner. Using Elemental Sight then comes in handy by revealing his footprints on the ground.
- Foil:
- To Zhongli, the other surviving member of the original Archons. He takes on the form of a young boy, where the latter adopts that of an adult man. He is usually hands-off in his approach to his subjects, while the latter directly ruled Liyue for thousands of years. He is mostly able to fit in as a mortal, while the latter struggles to adapt to working without his infinite wealth. He lost his Gnosis in a rather violent way to Signora after saving his city of a crisis, while the latter willingly gave up his in a deal with her after having allowed a crisis to test his city. Despite his loss of authority, he continues to watch over his people, while the latter contented himself into retirement.
- To Hu Tao, both being youthful-looking persons who wear short shorts and flower-adorned hats, love poetry, are involved in sending off deceased souls, and are close associates of Zhongli. The key differences are that Venti is a god that only resembles a teenage boy whereas Hu Tao is a bona fide teenage girl, and both have a Red/Green Contrast dynamic, Venti being the green-and-white to Hu Tao's red-and-black.
- Foreshadowing:
- In the prequel webcomic, he first appears manifesting from an Anemo Sigil outside the Whispering Woods, wondering how long has he been asleep; upon arrival at the City of Mondstadt, he checks on a statue of Barbatos in front of the Favonius Cathedral (whose form he once took); and upon telling a story about Murata, Vennessa notes that he spoke of it as he's from the distant past, before eventually realizing his divine nature the following day during her gladiatorial match.
- During the second act of the Mondstadt Archon Quest, while trying to gain access to the Holy Lyre der Himmel, a relic said to have belonged to the Anemo Archon, Venti proclaims to the first nun he runs into inside the Favonius Cathedral that he is Barbatos; of course, Sister Gotelinde does not believe him, though the Traveler and Paimon suspect otherwise. This is later confirmed when he confronts Dvalin/Stormterror atop Starsnatch Cliff, recognized as such by Dvalin and Jean.
- A Form You Are Comfortable With: Barbatos's current form as Venti is human-like, similarly to the young bard he befriended thousands of years ago.
- The Friend Nobody Likes: Zigzagged. Depending on how long you know him, Venti is a wise, friendly and charismatic fellow, and it's easy for him to make friends...but the characters that have known him longer also note that he is selfish, embarrasingly and shamelessly addicted to alcohol, quite prone to lying, and obnoxious to be around, due to all the mishaps that follow in his wake. It says something that when they started their friendship, the Traveler tended to defend him from Paimon, but nowadays the Traveler tends to agree with the little fairy.
- Friendly Sniper: He's friendly and playful, and uses bows in combat.
- The Gadfly: He likes to tease the other party members and when Signora captures him, his reaction is to repeatedly insult her through rhyme.
- Gameplay and Story Segregation:
- While Barbara notes that her healing powers don't really work on Venti after he's ambushed by the Fatui at the end of the Mondstadt Archon Quest, in normal combat her healing works fine on him, though to be fair his wounds weren't and came from his Gnosis being forcefully taken from him by La Signora, a Harbinger with godlike powers.
- Jean's Story Quest reveals that Venti is allergic to cats; however, a playable Venti can interact with any cat on the vicinity fine.
- The Gods Must Be Lazy: As God of Freedom, Venti built Mondstadt without a strong centralized government; he knew of the irony of "the god of freedom demanding his people to be free," so he chose to leave the people to their own devices and just be a free, wandering bard. Naturally, Paimon deems him irresponsible.
- The Heretic: Downplayed and subverted, but he is known to spread subversive, fun stories about Barbatos as himself in his mortal guise. The Church doesn't take this well, but he points out that the Church doesn't know if these stories didn't happen.
- In-Series Nickname: Paimon names Venti "Tone-Deaf Bard" midway through the Mondstadt Archon Quest.
- Internal Homage: Like many of the other Mondstadt characters, his unique Party Setup pose is a reference to his portrait, although inverted
. - Invocation:
- Irony: Mondstadt ought to be a paradise for the alcohol-loving Barbatos with its wines and ciders were it not for his youthful form. It is not much of an issue by the time the Traveler arrives, but his profile reveals that shortly after his arrival, the taverns refused to sell him alcohol, forcing him to get a bit creative and encourage his audience to buy him alcohol in his stead.
- Loser Deity:
- Downplayed, but he is given very little respect by most of the cast who quickly learn of his identity. Paimon constantly belittles and mocks him, and Zhongli and Ei don't have much respect for him (the former calls him a drunkard and a disgrace to the arts, while the latter is surprised at his alcoholism). When he tried revealing himself as Barbatos to Sister Gotelinde, the latter doesn't believe him and gets kicked out of the church dedicated to him. And towards the end of the Mondstadt Archon Quest he gets his Gnosis stolen by Signora with little effort (though, based on his braids not glowing, he was not using much of his power to fight back.) He lampshades this, lamenting that the Traveler has only met him at a time when he is constantly running into misfortune.
- To showcase that he is the weakest of the Seven, the Traveler tries to convince Neuvillette that he is a "harmless drunkard," in the hopes that the Anemo Archon can (at least) be spared from scrutiny, only for the Iudex to reply that he'll still carry out his original objective of carrying out a verdict towards him and the rest of the remaining Archons.
- Magic Feather: His Vision is but an ordinary glass sphere used to avoid suspicion. His base powers come from being an Anemo spirit, while his more powerful abilities come from the Gnosis located in his body.
- Magic Music:
- His music is particularly powerful and charming, leading people who hear his songs to instantly believe in Barbatos. In the latter third of the Mondstadt Archon Quest, he uses his music and the Holy Lyre der Himmel to dispel the storm barrier covering Stormterror's Lair.
- He's also implied to be the one helping Xiao soothe his pain from karmic debts with music. Xiao's story entry mentions that after collapsing following a day-long battle, the winds brought the sound of a distant flute, "massaging his wild senses, and giving him a moment's peace." Said text does not mention who played the flute, but in Xiao's promotional video, Venti appears at the end playing the flute in the distance.
- The Magnificent: He's also called "Venti the Bard."
- Meaningful Name: His name is derived from the Latin word for "wind"note . Fittingly, his element is Anemo.
- Mr. Exposition: Towards the end of the Mondstadt Archon Quest, he gives off information about the world, Mondstadt, and the Archons. It helps that he is one of the Archons himself.
- Mr. Vice Guy: Venti might be irresponsible towards his duties as an Archon (sloth), unabashedly mischievous if he sees it fit and he is The Alcoholic (gluttonynote ), but anyone who meets him will see that he can be quite friendly and approachable. He seemingly sets the trend started among every Archon being, in one way or another, nice guys.
- Multishot: His first Constellation upgrade, Splitting Gales, allows him to fire two extra arrows in tandem with the charged form of his Normal Attack, each having a third of the potency of the main shot.
- My Sibling Will Live Through Me: In a way. Venti took the form, instrument and proffesion of the Nameless Bard and started traveling to fulfil the Bard's wish of seeing the world beyond. The Bard's Last Request explicitly asked him to "see the world on [his] behave".
- Never Gets Drunk: He does, but it takes much more for Venti to get drunk than a normal person would. During the surprise party for Jean, Venti drinks 37 mugs of alcohol. Normally, he would not be able to pay for one, but because the drinks are free for the party's attendees, he takes the opportunity and drinks as much as he likes. He does not realize that the drinks are only free for the Knights of Favonius, but Diluc knows that Venti could not carry that much around him and would be unable to pay for the drinks anyways, and he comments about how Venti is not a normal person, being one of the few people who knew he is Barbatos.
- The Nicknamer: In the webcomic, Venti calls Barca Lawrence, then-tyrant of Mondstadt, as a "Thick Fat Sausage Stuffing," and gives Vennessa the title "Flame-Haired" in his ballads.
- Not Quite Flight: The held form of his Skill causes him to fly upwards with his wind powers and float in midair, seemingly as though he achieved natural flight, but will drop down after a short while.
- Obfuscating Stupidity: Venti looks like an irresponsible, lazy, harmless drunkard at face value, but closer inspection of the lore reveals that Venti is hiding many secrets, and his lackadaisical attitude is a way to pass under the radar and not draw any suspicion upon himself for reasons only he knows. It goes to the point that the game itself barely focuses on his role as Barbatos anymore.
- Odd Friendship: It's more of an alliance but during the "Alchemical Association" event he forms one with Diona, in spite of his cat allergy and her hatred towards drunkards, to help her get more ingredients.
- Oh, My Gods!: One of his lines when he opens a treasure chest is him thanking Barbatos, only for him to realize that he just thanked himself."Thank Barbatos! Wait a minute..."
- Olympus Mons: Venti is a 5★ character, and is the god Barbatos in human form.
- Only One Finds It Fun: Of the current playable Archons, Nahida is the only one to get along with him, if his voice-over about her is to go by.(About Buer) "The first thing you think of when you hear 'Dendro Archon' is her power over dreams. Her dreams are akin to my ballads — full of emotion and imagination. Hehe, it goes without saying that we get along really well!"
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: In cutscenes, Venti is never shown wielding a weapon, just his lyre. The fact that the trailer for "Paralogism" (v5.6) shows him wielding the Skyward Harp indicates the seriousness of the situation.
- Otherworldly and Sexually Ambiguous: Played with in an amusing way. Venti identifies as male, but as Barbatos, he is seen as this by the people of Mondstadt, likely because no one has seen or spoken to him in 500 years and the only thing they have to go on are his androgynous statues and some fairy tales.
- Out of Focus: Compared to the other Archons, Venti has yet to receive a second Story Quest, and many of the events he appears in ignore his status as the Anemo Archon entirely and instead focus on his musical career. Because of both of these factors, his history isn't explored as deeply as the other Archons, despite him and Zhongli being the eldest among them.
- Passive-Aggressive Kombat: In the epilogue to the 2023 Lantern Rite event, Venti and Zhongli keep throwing exaggerated compliments to each other, while also throwing embarrassing anecdotes about the other.
- Pet the Dog: Tries anyway. At the sight of Barbara being distressed over the destruction of the Holy Lyre der Himmel, with her accidentally rubbing salt in the wound by begging Barbatos for forgiveness, he uses magic on the Lyre, seemingly fixing it. Unfortunately, she takes it from him to return to its place, meaning he can't hide the fact that his magic is but an illusion.
- Plot Allergy: Venti is very allergic to cats.
- During Jean's story quest, Venti needs the Traveler's help to recover his lyre strings from a cat.
- In "Summertime Odyssey," Venti doesn't tag along with the Traveler because he has been offered a lot of drinks at Cat's Tail for a performance. He spends the event on the rooftop because he can't stop sneezing during his gig.
- Weirdly, he is fine around Diona in the "Alchemical Ascension" event in v4.5.
- Power Floats: As expected from the Anemo Archon himself. Besides being able to generate wind currents to glide high into the air, one of his idle animations has him casually float off the ground for seconds, notably without even using a glider.
- Pretty Boy: His appearance is quite androgynous, with his braids, somewhat short stature, and his bard outfit being able to give the impression he looks like a woman.
- Psychopomp: He was able to lay the real Stanley's soul to rest, after Hans Archibald kept his memory alive for decades. And in the climax of Sunspray Summer Resort event, he gives a chant that's supposed to keep Bennet alive and guide his soul back to his body.Venti: Lost wanderer, hear these words. Behold the sunlight, this blade of dawn, listen to the wind sing a familiar song, inhale a fragrance so sweet, so known... Follow me, please. Follow me home.
- Really 700 Years Old: Seeing as he is a god and hasn't even been seen for 500 years prior to the story. He looks youthful, though his purchase of beer does not raise any eyebrows, at least by the time the Traveler arrives. In the prequel webcomic, years after he helped Vennessa overthrow the Lawrence Clan, he still appears the same as he tells the Traveler about Vennessa's legend. His Story Quest puts his age at around 2,600 years old, and the Liyue Archon Quest reveals that out of the original Archons, he's the only other surviving member besides Rex Lapis.
- Reduced Mana Cost: A variant—his utility passive, Windrider, shaves 20% off of Stamina consumption while gliding.
- Reluctant Ruler: It's pretty obvious by his personality that Venti never wanted to be worshipped, much less be an Archon—he only saved Gunnhirld's clan because he was moved by her pure heart, and only joined the rebellion against Decarabian in support of his bard friend. Had Venti have his way, he would've travelled the world alongside his friend like the bard wished to do, but with his friend dead and Andrius not being suited to rule over humans, the people flocked towards him and so he had no other choice, ironically enough. Furthermore, after witnessing Decarabian's rule, he's wary of wielding that much power over Mondstadt, and so actively chooses not to rule over the country and just watch over them from afar—a methodology with its pros and cons, but overall a highly functional one for both himself and the people.
- Rhymes on a Dime: As a traveling bard, he loves to speak in rhymes. In the prequel webcomic, his penchant for rhymes often annoyed Vennessa, though she eventually comes to enjoy it. When the situation's serious, however, he can speak normally. In the game, he usually speaks normally, but will occasionally rhyme, especially when he intends to tease.
- Sad Clown: Venti's carefree façade belies his fair share of sadness and regrets, in particular mourning friends he has long outlived, either due to war or old age.
- Secret Secret-Keeper: The lines Venti came up with for a hymn Kaeya had him help write for the Church of Favonius's amateur choir make it clear that he knows of Kaeya's Khaenri'ahn heritage. Given that the theme for the hymn was things people appreciate about Mondstadt, Kaeya's verse is about a moored ship finding its way somewhere it calls home, an obvious nod to him having grown attached to Mondstadt despite having been sent there to spy for Khaenri'ah. Kaeya doesn't seem to mind, but given that at this point he also knew of Venti's secret, exposing it would be hypocritical of him.
- Self-Deprecating Humor: Venti himself often tells cheeky, irreverent stories about himself as Barbatos to his own people, such as times he allegedly played pranks on his fellow Archons.
- Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: With Paimon. Venti's demeanor annoys her to the point she calls him "Tone-Deaf Bard" and usually belittles him. In response, Venti often imitates her for laughs, and his playable voice-lines have him refer to her as a "pesky little pixie thing" and a minor inconvenience.
- Sliding Scale of Gameplay and Story Integration:
- Venti is the oldest and most experienced of all the Bow units and is a god on top of that. His Normal Attack, Divine Marksmanship, is aptly dexterous, with its six-hit combo form able to fire two arrows at once in its first and fourth strikes, as well as shorter charging times for his powered shots.
- During the "Unreconciled Stars" event, the playable characters' Visions glow and produce a noise when they are near a meteorite shard... except for Venti's, because his Vision is fake.
- One of his Ascension materials are Cecilias, flowers that only grow in windy places (befitting his role as Anemo Archon) such as Starsnatch Cliff, where midway through the Mondstadt Archon Quest he tried to summon Dvalin in an (ultimately failed) attempt to purify his Abyssal corruption.
- Snark-to-Snark Combat: In the 2023 Lantern Rite event epilogue, he gets into one with Zhongli. The two of them are doing everything in their power to keep their identities hidden from everyone present while trading barbs with one another at the same time.
- Starving Artist: Played for Laughs. Venti suffers from Perpetual Poverty, though unlike Zhongli, a fellow disguised Archon who suffers from similar problems, he rarely seems to mind. It does, however, prevent him from feeding his alcoholism, leading to such antics as crashing Jean's surprise party towards the end of her Story Quest and raiding the vaults of Angel's Share despite not being invited, let alone contributed to it (though its bartender Charles humors him to test his alcohol tolerance anyway).
- Status Buff: His fourth Constellation upgrade, Hurricane of Freedom, raises his Anemo Damage Bonus by 25% for ten seconds whenever he picks up Elemental Particles or Orbs.
- Stolen Good, Returned Better: Zigzagged and ultimately subverted. After recovering the Holy Lyre der Himmel from the Fatui, the Traveler learns from Venti that it has long since lost all its power. Using Dvalin’s purified tears, they restore its power... only for Dvalin to destroy it beyond repair when Venti confronts him. After solving the Stormterror crisis, Venti sheepishly returns the mangled Holy Lyre to Barbara, who freaks out and begs the Anemo Archon to forgive her. Then Venti restores the lyre to pristine condition with magic, to Barbara's immense relief, only to urge the Traveler to run before she gets back because the illusion won't hold for long.
- The Storyteller: Part of him being a bard is telling stories of legends. In the comic, he tells the Traveler about Vennessa, leader of the rebellion against the Lawrence Clan and founder of the Knights of Favonius a millennium ago.
- Suddenly Voiced: Inverted; in v5.3, his "About Haborym" voice-over has no voiced dialogue if the language is set to English.
- Support Party Member: What Venti lacks in raw damage output, he makes up for with incredible crowd control, debuff (through equipment loadout), and exploration skills.
- This Is Gonna Suck: He tries to make Barbara feel better about the mangled Holy Lyre der Himmel by apparently fixing it with magic. When she takes it from him to return to its place, he reveals after she has gone that it was a temporary fix, and suggests he and the Traveler take their leave.
- Time Master: "Sunspray Summer Resort" reveals that Istaroth bequeathed a fragment of her power and authority over Time to him. Not only he has knowledge of the past, present and future and the authority to record things through his ballads, but he's able to disconnect the Mare Jivari from Teyvat's timeline, with the only downside being that some souls were left trapped there — but his Story Quest reveals he still has the power to work around that price.
- Tornado Move: A variant. His Elemental Skill, Skyward Sonnet, creates an upcurrent that blows his foes upward, while its held form slows down his enemies' descent as well as gives him a lift, in exchange for increasing its cooldown time from six to fifteen seconds. His first-ascension passive, Embrace of Winds, allows the held form's updraft to last twenty seconds, allowing the party to propel themselves up for gliding or easily launch plunging attacks.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Apples. His favorite drink is also apple cider."Here, have an apple. I just picked it. Look how ripe and juicy it is... *(munching)* Truly the fruit of the gods!"
- Tragic Keepsake: He took his current appearance in memory of a bard he befriended back when he was a mere wind spirit; in addition, his eagle feathers were meant to be a gift for his friend, who unfortunately died while leading the revolt against Decarabian before he could see his dream of seeing birds in flight come true.
- Trickster God: His character profile past Friendship Level 4 recounts tales of him pranking the other Archons, including the Tsaritsa and Morax. However, the text then reveals that they are merely fabricated stories, and Venti asked the people how could they tell so to mess with them; the text implies that he was drunk when he told those stories.
- Trickster Mentor: While he doesn't rule over Mondstadt properly, Venti still takes time and effort to look after his people by offering advice whenever they need it under his bard guise. During the 2021 Windblume Festival event he's at the plaza offering love advice by proxy of the Traveler, and on the "Alchemical Ascension" event he helps Diona see the real roots of her hate for alcohol, and even offers her a solution that would allow people to indulge without the negative side effects, a solution that, with Diona's gift, is far more achievable for her.
- Utility Weapon: His first-ascension passive gives charged form of his Skill the ability to create a wind updraft, allowing players to reach tall places quicker or glide to a distance more easily or launch plunging attacks more frequently.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: Venti has lived around Zhongli for so long, he is the only one who knows how to break his perpetually calm veneer. That said, Zhongli's Character Stories also make clear that he missed his Mondstadter counterpart after he went to sleep following the Cataclysm, and he appreciates that he's still around to "share the memories." For his part, Venti is willing to visit Zhongli upon learning of his retirement, but funnily enough only did so when they're both surrounded by mortals who don't know who they really are, just so Zhongli wouldn't blow him away at sight; all in all, despite the awkwardness and embellished barbs, both gods are clearly happy to see each other again.
- Wandering Minstrel: He loves to wander around, recite poems, speak in rhymes, and play music with his little harp.
- Weaksauce Weakness: He's intensely allergic to cats, so if one steals something from him, he needs to ask someone else to retrieve it for him. Even holding something a cat touched is enough to set off a sneezing fit.
- Weapon Specialization: Venti's Wish banner runs concurrent with that for the Elegy for the End (5★), whose Ascension substat is Energy Recharge (12–55.1%), and whose "The Parting Refrain" passive increases its wielder's Elemental Mastery by 60–120 points, as well as allows them to gather stacks of Sigil of Remembrance at least every 0.2 second whenever their Elemental Talents hits opponents, which are then consumed once four are gathered to trigger the "Millennial Movement: Farewell Song" effect for twelve seconds, which increases the party's Elemental Mastery by 100–200 points and Attack stat by 20–40% in exchange for being unable to gather the stacks for twenty seconds. This helps accelerate his Burst charging, and given that it (as well as his Skill) lingers on even after Venti has been switched out, it allows him to bless the party with offensive buffs.
- We Used to Be Friends: He mentions that he and Tsaritsa, the Cryo Archon, used to be close allies centuries ago, but nowadays things are not the same anymore (to the point of one of her underlings beats him up—or at least specifically Signora/Rozalyne, who blames his tardiness during the Cataclysm for the tragedy that drove her the way she is today).
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Since Venti occasionally sneezes whenever a cat approaches him, he makes it a rule that no cats must be in the vicinity when he is choosing where to perform. He also sneezes near a cat during a sub-quest of Jean's Story Quest. His cat allergy is reactive enough that during the "Summertime Odyssey" event, he can actually be seen perching on the roof of Cat's Tail when he's tasked to perform there because his allergy won't allow him to perform inside the tavern.
- Wind Is Green: Zigzagged. His color scheme is primarily green, and he wields Anemo — a wind power associated with the colors teal and cyan.
- Winged Humanoid: As Barbatos he was big, feathery wings, as seen in his statues and the legends he appears in. In his own story quest, Venti has Anemo wings when he reveals his identity to Stanley.
Albert
A notorious Barbara fanboy, usually found hanging outside the Favonius Cathedral. Whenever the Traveler encounters him, he's in the middle of his latest scheme to get Barbara's attention.
- Abhorrent Admirer: At first, he just seems to be a Loony Fan of Barbara, until her Hangout Event revealed him to be a Stalker with a Crush that she deliberately tries to avoid when possible. This particular approach towards expressing his love is off-putting to everyone who witnesses it firsthand.
- Flanderization: Was a bit more reasonable when he first appeared, where the most he did was discreetly help Barbara with her chores and get himself hurt on purpose so he can make excuses to meet her. Starting v1.4, however, his Stalker with a Crush tendencies have been amplified to the point that he was building giant flower statues of her.
- Hated by All: Downplayed. His obsessive streak and inability to take a hint make him an extreme annoyance. The Traveler, normally an understanding person, is perpetually exasperated whenever they have to deal with him. The only reason he hasn't been in far greater trouble is because Barbara is simply too much of an All-Loving Heroine to do something about him, to the point that she even feels guilty whenever she has to hide from him.
- Hopeless Suitor: For obvious reasons, he doesn't have a chance in hell.
- Loony Fan: Is the president and founder of Barbara's fan club and when the Traveler encounters him, Barbara is all he ever talks about.
- Satellite Character: Is entirely defined by his obsession with Barbara.
- Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: With Sister Victoria, who often accidentally finds him stalking Barbara.
- Stalker with a Crush: He deliberately injures himself on purpose so he has an excuse to meet Barbara, constantly lurks around the Cathedral under the guise of doing chores, follows her all the way out to Wolvendom during her Hangout Event in the hopes of helping her pick Wolfhook berries, proposes the idea of making a flower statue effigy standing at two stories tall as a Windblume Festival gift, and writes cryptic letters about "burying something dear to her" (which Barbara interprets to mean that Jean was buried alive) as a way of making her go to a specific location where he was waiting for her. He also hangs around the church so often, one of the nuns mistakes him for some kind of spy and commissions the Traveler to confront him. All these, done by an adult man towards someone implicitly in her late teens.
Ella Musk
A girl who studies the hilichurlian language, in the hopes of making peaceful contact with this otherwise highly aggressive beings. She is usually found inside the library of the Knights of Favonius' headquarters, though she will occasionally go into the City's outskirts to test her theories.
- Ascended Extra: She plays a large role in the "Mimi Tomo" event in v1.5, where she serves as a translator to communicate with hilichurls willing to cooperate.
- Berserk Button: She dislikes people disrupting her research. During the Windblume Festival, she is understandably irritated at the unruly library patrons as they happen to be (unintentionally) disturbing her studies and requests the Traveler to convince said patrons to be quiet.
- Child Prodigy: She looks to be no older than twelve at most, and yet she has deciphered hilichurlian to the point where she can hold simple conversations with Hilichurls. She even calls herself a Professor of Hilichurlian Linguistics and claims to have academic credentials, but this could just be a case of Small Name, Big Ego.
- Determinator: Is dedicated to studying the hilichurlian language in order to normalize their relations with humans.
- Dramatic Irony: She believes in coming to a better understanding with hilichurls and that they're more civilized than people think, unaware that they were once humans of nations cursed by Celestia, such as Khaenri'ah.
- Friend to All Living Things: She is one of the few characters who is willing to make friends with Hilichurls.
- Older Than They Look: Although she uses a child model, she is Dr. Edith's older sister which makes Ella a very petite adult woman (much like Dori).
- Punny Name: Her name is a play on tech mogul Elon Musk. MiHoYo once even attempted a viral campaign in which a Twitter account "operated" by Ella would follow Musk's account and invite him to stream the game before dropping it due to backlash.
- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Subverted. Amy's father does not hesitate to call her home for dinner in the middle of a story session during her debut trailer, leaving the girl flustered (and insisting she is "Fischl, the Prinzessin der Verurteilung", knowing not of any "Amy"). However, as seen in Summertime Odyssey, there's a reason why they no longer refer to her as this.
- Bit Character: Though they're The Voice, they still play a notable part in the Summertime Odyssey event by virtue of being involved in Amy's life.
- Good Parents: They truly love their daughter and made sure to play into her fantasies when she was a girl, helping her cope with her Friendless Background. Even nowadays, they may no longer indulge Amy, but still want what's best for her.
- Hands-Off Parenting: Given their daughter's job as an investigator for the Adventurer's Guild and the fact she has a Vision, it's safe to say they probably don't get involved much in the girl's job.
- Parents as People: As shown in the "Summertime Odyssey" event, they genuinely love their daughter, but at the same time, once she turned fourteen they began discouraging her roleplaying and instead try to have her seek other vocations, such as music.
- The Voice: We never see the two on the flesh, and only get to hear their voice in both Fischl's trailer and in the Summertime Odyssey event.
Glory
- Blindfolded Vision: She is blind and thus wears a blindfold to hide it.
- Locked Out of the Loop: Is awaiting Godwin's return from Varka's expedition, unaware that not only he is the only knight to miss it, but had to continue the illusion of being in a faraway land out of fear that she'll be disappointed.
Gygax
An artisan and organizer of Windtrace, a game of hide-and-seek inspired by Mondstadt's many rebellions during its aristocratic era.
- Mr. Exposition: He tells the Traveler of the origins of Windtrace as being inspired by stories of various rebellions during the aristocratic era.
- Named After Somebody Famous: Gygax is named after Gary Gygax
, American tabletop game designer and one of the creators of Dungeons & Dragons.
Six-Fingered José
- Gameplay and Story Segregation: He normally peppers his speech with Spanish when talked to, but when rescued as part of a random event, he will talk like the restnote with no traces of Spanish at all.
- Noodle Implements: José tried playing his lyre and insisted singing while on a Wind Glider. As a result, he fell into a wishing well, had his gliding license suspended for five years, and had to perform community service.
Nimrod
Kaeya's drinking buddy and an informant.- The Alcoholic: Nimrod is a notorious drunkard among the citizenry of Mondstadt. Oftentimes Sister Victoria had to ask the Traveler to check in on him, and other times he asks them to distract his wife Eury by pandering to her shopaholic tendencies while he gets smashed again.
- Bunny-Ears Lawyer: On one hand, Nimrod is a notorious drunkard. On the other hand, he is also one of the most knowledgeable men in Mondstadt.
- Information Broker: He is one of Kaeya's sources of information.
- The Mole: During the 2021 Lantern Rite event he was sent by Kaeya to infiltrate a group of Treasure Hoarders suspected of attempting a sabotage of the festivities.
Timaeus
A scholar and apprentice alchemist to Albedo, a captain of the Knights of Favonius.- The Apprentice: To Albedo, alongside Sucrose.
- Butt-Monkey: While he is good at teaching others the fundamentals of alchemy and is a devoted assistant to Albedo and Sucrose, neither of his superiors think much of him as an alchemist. At one point Sucrose even explains away one of Albedo's extended absences as the result of being driven away by Timaeus making a very bad thesis.
- Entertainingly Wrong: During Albedo's Story Quest, he once proposed the Traveler is perhaps the evolved version of a slime because slimes can come in multiple elements and the Traveler can use multiple elements without a Vision. Albedo points out that slimes only ever stick to one element once they bond with one and only develop that elemental affinity after a great deal of time while the Traveler can switch elements at will, in lore at least.
- Recovered Addict: He is a former addict of Genius Invokation TCG, such that he used his sick leaves to play the game, much to the bemusement of Sucrose. He had given up the game entirely until Sucrose was drawn into it, causing him to get back into it while helping her learn. While he does play again, he is much more moderate, and for good or ill, his skills have fallen off.
- Self-Deprecation: Timaeus has low self-esteem, and considers himself an inadequate apprentice to Albedo, let alone a peer to Sucrose. However, while both indeed question his output, they nevertheless appreciate his loyalty and honesty.
- Ship Tease: With Ying'er as of the 2023 Windblume Festival event. The 2025 event shows that this has become a serious relationship, as he is attending the festival with Ying'er who not only dotes on him but shows serious concern and care when he arrives sick to Liyue.
- Suddenly Voiced: Inverted; in his appearance during the v5.3 Lantern Rite, Timaeus has no voiced dialogue if the language is set to English. Notably, he's the very first generic NPC (with Madame Ping in the same event having this as well) to be hit by this, with every other characters with missing voices exclusively being playable characters (or partnered with a playable character like Ajaw or Changsheng) or characters expected to be playable in future updates.
- Will Not Tell a Lie: Despite his comparatively inferior skills as a researcher, Albedo and Sucrose keep him around because he refuses to lie no matter how bad a truth is, even if it may make him look bad. The "Windblume's Breath" event features this trait as so genuine that he is able to help the characters find the Hexenzirkel's tea party. Funnily enough, despite being an arguably bad alchemist himself, his virtue of "One who would never lie" aligns with that of Alice, arguably one of the best alchemists to ever live.
Timmie
A young boy who often hangs out on the bridge leading to the City of Mondstadt and feeding nearby pigeons. He is also one of the orphans looked after by Sister Grace and is a younger brother figure to Glory.
- Butt-Monkey: A meta example. Since the flocks of pigeons serve as a good source of Fowl for cooking, players often use them as target practice as well as a way to test AoE abilities.
- Friend to All Living Things: He often feeds the pigeons and ducks along the bridge to the City.
- King of Games: He's a Level 10 Duel in Genius Invokation TCG. Also, during the "Duel! The Summoners' Summit!" event, he wins the Mondstadt leg, with his final opponent, Kaeya, claiming that the boy had him on the ropes for the entire match.
- Locked Out of the Loop: Unbeknownst to him, his father died in a hunting accident a few years ago, though Draff, his father's hunting companion, and Sister Grace are unable to tell him that until he comes of age.
- Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: His Imaginary Friend is a Ruin Guard, of all things
- What the Hell, Hero?: Timmie often reacts adversely whenever you either scare away or even accidentally kill his avian friends.
- When You Coming Home, Dad?: Timmie spends the day waiting for his father, a hunter, to return home, unaware that he is no longer coming back.
Vile
An informant who can be found outside the Cathedral during daytime, or outside the Knights of Favonius' headquarters relaying information to Athos during nighttime.- The Informant: To "That Guy" or a "Mysterious Gentleman" (who is implied to be Kaeya).
- Information Broker: She deals in giving out lots of information; from Sara wanting to import Jueyun Chili from Liyue (that even Barbara herself can't handle), to Amber burning the steak (and the kitchen) during the Knights' hangout, to Lisa using a web-shaped net to enhance the tea's flavor, to Diluc's meeting with Snezhnayan merchants, etc.
Wagner and Schulz
A pair of blacksmiths that run the Schulz's Blacksmith smith shop in Mondstadt.- The Alcoholic: Schulz once made a bet with Wagner over who could drink more, and the winner would have the smith shop named after them. Schulz won, hence the shop's name.
- Blacksmith Upgrade Service: Both are this for Mondstadt. Wagner is significantly more experienced than Schulz, who serves as the former's apprentice.
- Brutal Honesty: Simply put, if there's something in Wagner's mind, he will not hestitate to put it into words, be it about his opinions of others or himself. Schulz lampshades this if you talk to him.
- Deadpan Snarker: Wagner's choice of words, despite limited, are fairly dry.("Any tips on finding ore in Mondstadt?") "You're asking me where to find more ore? Hmph. Looking for it yourself would be far too much trouble, I take it..."
- Determinator: Noelle's strength sent him on a downward spiral as at least ten of his best swords got wrecked in the process of finding a weapon tailored for her. Fortunately, his passion for smithing eventually led to him forging a greatsword, believing that it would support the young maid's strength.
- Heroic Self-Deprecation: Schulz admits his skills at smithing are nothing compared to Wagner, but is content so long as the respect between the two remains.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Wagner may be curt, rude, and to-the-point, but he's still a decent person with a passion for his line of work, and he'll gladly get the job done.
