Protagonists

    Benjamin Fairest

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b3_9.png
"I have to decide for myself. And I've decided to live the life I want to live!"
Voiced by: Kawai Sprite (voice samples)
A sensitive boy who wants to be a painter but has been abused by his parents, who want him to be a full-time rapper instead. He is in a relationship with Pico.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Boyfriend is bisexual in the original Friday Night Funkin'. In this mod, Benjamin is explicitly stated to be gay.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: A two-fer. Not only is Benjamin's hair powder blue instead of BF's electric cyan, but Word of God states that it's dyed, and that his natural hair color is blond.invoked
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Instead of Grace, this AU's equivalent of Girlfriend, Benjamin is in love with Pico.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Pico calls him "Ben", "Baby Blue", and "Softie" more often than his full first name, while Grace calls him both "BF" and "Benji", the latter being her childhood nickname for him.
  • Ambiguously Human: Due to his parents being this, he also qualifies.
  • Author Avatar: According to Tama in an interview, Benjamin's personality was mostly based on herself.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Delivers one to his parents in the cutscene right before the second song of Week 5. He calls them out for not being good parents and trying to turn him into their mindless slave like how Grace's parents did similarly.
  • Cowardly Lion: Although he's not nearly as bold as the original Boyfriend, Benjamin is equally as capable of beating his opponents in rap battles.
  • Disabled in the Adaptation: While Benjamin has autism and ADHD like canon BF, he also has anxiety and PTSD, likely as a result of his parents' abuse towards him.
  • Divergent Character Evolution: While he is a reskin of canon BF in the context of the remix mod, with his visual design taking cues from the original, Benjamin is consider by his creator to be someone completely separate from BF in terms of overall character. This aspect is highlighted in the bonus week with Boyfriend. Benjamin first interprets BF as "who he himself is suppose to be", but ultimately comes to the conclusion they aren't one and the same.
  • Grew a Spine: Ends up running away from his Abusive Parents with Pico and later giving them a well deserved Calling the Old Man Out speech.
  • Physical Scars, Psychological Scars: In one of his character poses, Benjamin can be seen having cigarette burns on his neck, a further sign of how far his parents had been taking their abuse.
  • Trademark Favorite Drink: Benjamin’s comfort drink is hot chocolate, and Pico offers it to him at the end of Week 5 to help him feel better.

    Pico
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/soft_pico_assets.png
"Are you okay, Baby Blue?"
Voiced by: Kawai Sprite (voice samples)
A street kid who was wrongly blamed for causing the school shooting which he worked hard to stop. He is in a relationship with Benjamin.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: In his home series, Pico's sexuality is not defined, given his status as an Interpretative Character within the Pico series. In this mod, Pico is explicitly stated to be bisexual.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Instead of showing Benjamin Cruel Mercy, he's in love with him.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Benjamin occasionally calls him "Toughie".
  • Big Damn Heroes: Pico serves as this to Benjamin at the end of Chapter 1, saving him from Father Fairest by spraying the latter in the face and leaving him blinded long enough for the couple to make their getaway.
  • Hidden Depths: According to Word of God, Pico is a surprisingly good dancer.invoked
  • Misplaced Retribution: Many people including Grace are under the impression that Pico was behind the school shooting, but Benjamin is one of the few that knows what truly happened that day and that Pico didn't do it. Because of this, he is a wanted fugitive and has to keep a low profile.

Frank "Father" Fairest and Marilyn "Mother" Mairest
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daddy_dearest_9.png
"C'mon, sport. We never raised an idiot. You didn’t ACTUALLY think I was leaving empty handed, did you?"
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hot_mom_phase_1.png
"You've had your fun, but I think it's time to come home, don't you?"

Voiced by:
Father Fairest: Kawai Sprite (voice samples)
Mother Mairest: Monica Franco (voice samples)
Benjamin's Abusive Parents who want to force their son to be a singer.
  • Abusive Parents: They have both physically and verbally abused their son, even being roughly referred to as abusive tyrants. Not only can you make out burn marks underneath Ben's shirt in one still, but Soft Monster is a physical manifestation of his fear of their abuse.
  • Ambiguously Human: Despite being re-sprited, their eyes still have a faint glow to them, making it unclear whether they're humans, angels, or demons.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: They look nice and reasonable at a first glance, but once you begin to actively avoid following their orders, you're in for a world of hurt.
  • Broken Pedestal: You'd be crazy to think the Fairests were still adored by all of their fans after they begin verbally abusing Benjamin after he beats them in the first song in Week 5 and Benjamin calls them out for being awful parents - all in front of the crowd.
  • Control Freak: It's heavily implied that Mother Mairest is more on the verbally abusive end of the relationship with her son, and she controlled nearly all aspects of his life before he ran away, including the color of his hair.
  • Expy: According to Word of God, Mother Mairest's Control Freak tendencies are inspired by Mother Gothel and the Other Mother. She even says to Benjamin that she "needs a yes" in order for him to comply with her demand to come back home, similar to what the Other Mother said in the movie.
  • Hate Sink: It is safe to say both of them (especially Father Fairest) are easily the most unlikable characters in the mod, as well as other mods and Friday Night Funkin' in general, for how much they tormented Benjamin over the years and their lack of redeeming or cool qualities.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Word of God lists their real names as "Frank" and "Marilyn", respectively. Neither name is said aloud in the mod.invoked
  • Uncertain Doom: It's unknown what happened to them after the end of Week 5, but it can be safely assumed that they were chased off by their former fans after showing their true colors.

    Skid and Pump
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spooky_kids_assets.png
Voiced by: Sr Pelo (voice samples)
Two rambunctious, Halloween obsessed children that hail from Sr. Pelo's Spooky Month series. Aside from their slightly different costumes, they're largely the same as their original counterparts.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Averted. Aside from their slightly different costumes, there's virtually no difference between them and their original counterparts.
  • Cheerful Child: True to their original counterparts.
  • Christmas in July: They're celebrating Spooky Month... in November. Pico attempts to object, but Benjamin tells him to keep the illusion.
  • Fearless Fool: Pico mentions them entering a White Van at the end of their week… Benjamin is understandably worried. Although given that it's Skid and Pump, chances are they're fine.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Cheerfully talk about their favorite artist "Mr. Fairest" in front of his son, who they don't know is being abused by him.

    Grace Dearest
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/soft_gf_assets.png
Voiced by: Tama (voice samples)
The Dearest's daughter who wanted to get into a romantic relationship with Benjamin, but failed due to Benjamin being with Pico.
  • Abusive Parents: Benjamin implies that she has these. Unlike him, who eventually Grew a Spine and ran off with Pico, Grace ended up being the way that her parents wanted her to be like. Well, at least until Week 5... Word of God establishes that she wasn’t abused by her parents, but instead was overly sheltered, which explains a lot about her difficulty accepting rejection.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Unlike Girlfriend, Grace is not in a relationship with Benjamin.
  • Adaptational Species Change: In the original game, Girlfriend is a demon. Here, Grace is an ordinary human.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Benjamin calls her "GF" or "G", with the former being his childhood nickname for her.
  • Childhood Marriage Promise: Had one with Benjamin, and she expects him to honor it.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Is upset that Benjamin loves Pico, whom everyone assumes was a school shooter. She gets over it later after Benjamin gives his parents a Calling the Old Man Out speech, deciding to date this universe's equivalent of Senpai instead.
  • Demoted to Extra: As a result of not being in a relationship with Benjamin, unlike Girlfriend, Grace is this by default.
  • Heel Realization: Has this after Benjamin gives his Calling the Old Man Out speech to his own parents in Week 5, along with mentioning that her parents have successfully turned her into a "mindless slave."
  • The Ophelia: Downplayed. Grace shows slight shades of this, as she is an emotionally unstable, overly sheltered girl who's also very clingy towards Benjamin and implied to have an eating disorder, not to mention 'Stay' shows she is in a lot of denial about Benjamin leaving. However, she's still mostly grounded in reality.
  • Playful Cat Smile: Her idle sprites are drawn with a catlike mouth during all of her songs, giving her a goody air. She never loses that smile even when she starts to cry in "It's Complicated".
  • Shadow Archetype: Like Benjamin, she also endured having Abusive Parents trying to force her into being what they wanted her to be. But unlike Benjamin, who overcame them and ran away, Grace succumbed to her parent's wishes. After having her Heel Realization in Week 5, she described her situation as having been her parents' "mindless slave", something that could've happened to Benjamin had he not ran away.
  • Weight Woe: Implied and Played for Drama. According to Word of God, Grace has trouble loving her body, and Benjamin has noticed this at family dinners. In addition, she wears an oversized sweater dress in Week 3, presumably to hide her body shape.

Spoiler Opponents

    Soft Monster
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/monster_assets.png
Voiced by: Kawai Sprite (voice samples)
A hallucination representing Benjamin's parents that appears to Benjamin every now and then to torment him.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Monster was a Humanoid Abomination of unknown origin. Being a Soft-Spoken Sadist who wanted to eat Boyfriend and Girlfriend to satisfy his hunger. Soft Monster is but a hallucination in Benjamin's head who doesn't speak a single word, being a physical manifestation of Benjamin's fear of his parents' abuse. He disappears once Benjamin lets go of his fear.
  • Enemy Within: Torments Benjamin frequently by causing him to become unconscious and face it in a dream. It's not until Week 5 that Benjamin realizes what it is: a personification of his fears of his parent's abuse, more prominently his father's.
  • Rule of Symbolism: It has blue liquid on various parts of its body. The abuse Benjamin received from his mother's verbal abuse is represented by the blue liquid dripping from its mouth, and his father's physical abuse is represented by his hands and arms covered in blue. His two horns looking like cigarettes and his entire body being Wreathed in Flames represents the times when Benjamin suffered cigarette burns from Father Fairest.
  • Silent Antagonist: It torments Benjamin without uttering a single word.
  • Wreathed in Flames: Their color and shape make it harder to tell, but the monster has flames being emitted from it, alluding to Benjamin getting burned by Father Fairest's cigarette.

    Secret Opponent
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ogbf.png
Voiced by: Kawai Sprite (voice samples)
The original Boyfriend himself. Encountered by Benjamin in a dream that may have been something more.
  • Ambidextrous Sprite: Averted. Rather than reuse the vanilla game's Boyfriend sprite, he has a whole new sprite-sheet that keeps him right-handed with his microphone.
  • Mirror Boss: Damages Benjamin on his turn, but can't K.O. him unless Benjamin misses a note at minimum health.
  • Nice Guy: Is perfectly willing to be friends with Benjamin despite the latter getting angry.

Other

    Friend of the Secret Opponent
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_girlfriend.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/oggf.png
:)
Boyfriend's girlfriend. Appears alongside Boyfriend in Benjamin's dream.
  • The Speechless: Despite having dialogue boxes, she never really "speaks."
    Tama
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/narrator_8.png
The main creator of the mod and it's narrator.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: You can actually see her in the background during Week 5 before she is revealed to be the narrator.
  • Narrator All Along: After the bonus week, the game cuts of Benjamin's dialogue, and the narrator's dialogue sprite brightens to reveal that she was Tama, the mod's creator.

Coming Soon

    Sven Kai Iwata
Grace’s new boyfriend after the events of Week 5. He will be the main opponent of Week 6.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: While canon Senpai has sandy brown hair, Sven is confirmed to be blond-haired.
  • Adaptational Name Change: He's this AU's equivalent of Senpai.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: While canon Senpai is a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing who does not take kindly to losing, Sven is implied to be nicer, with Word of God stating that he "treats gay people like a loving family".invoked
  • Mythology Gag: His first and middle name when put together, sounds similar to Senpai, which Benjamin almost says himself.
  • Race Lift: While no indication was made of Senpai’s ethnicity in the canon FNF lore, Sven is of Norwegian and Japanese descent.
  • Retcon: When Benjamin was recalling his name, he almost says "Senpai". This is understandable, since it's likely that they didn't have an official name for him until later when developing the Week 6 update. Though it may also be possible that Benjamin simply mispronounced Sven's name.
