Humans
Colonel Harren
Colonel John Harren
The commander of the base where the story takes place.- Just Between You and Me: He holds Gen. Richart and demands answers after the general activated the base self-destruct system without his knowledge. Richart just says that he might as well shoot him, and that he doesn't have to answer anything. The General then surprises and shoots the Colonel, mortally wounding him, before leaving him for dead.
- Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Downplayed for the most part. Before the story began, he was delaying subjecting the chio to combat testing, but never directly disobeyed and order or spoke out against his superiors. Though after Dr. Tolio and Gen. Richart start taking a more active role in the project, he seems to be starting to take a more active role in sabotaging it.
- Signed Up for the Dental: His character bio mentions that he signed up for the military to pay for college. He has a degree in oceanography.
Captain Bash
Captain Elias Bash
Col. Harren's #2- The Lancer: He's this to Col. Harren
- Satellite Character: He's been given very little dialogue and characterization so far. Right now he acts as a sort of Audience Surrogate as the specifics of Project Cottontail are explained to him.
General Richart
General Franklin Richart
The director of Project Cottontail and a General of the United States Army. The developing Civil War seems to have taken its toll on his mental state.- Bad Boss: He's shown to be very disrespectful and dismissive to the troops under his command. What really earns him this title is when he steals Col. Harren's ID so he can activate the base's Self-Destruct Mechanism. This would likely kill all the base personnel as well as the attacking rebels. He also shoots and mortally wounds Col. Harren when the Colonel tries to stop him.
- Crazy-Prepared: He has a nuclear Self-Destruct Mechanism on stand-by in case anything goes wrong. If that wasn't enough, he also orders Dr. Tolio to rig the base's ventilation system to disperse a bio-weapon called "Jaspit Green" to ensure that the chio cannot escape.
- Dirty Coward: In chapter 4, he activates the base self-destruct system and attempts to flee, leaving his soldiers to die in the blast.
- General Ripper: So far he has shown very little care for the soldiers under his command, and a willingness to use his newly developed bio-weapon against his own countrymen.
- Hero Killer: Mortally wounds Col. Harren after he holds the General at gunpoint for activating the self-destruct system without his authorization.
- Manipulative Bastard: He's noted as being very shrewd and a skilled manipulator.
Aaron Carvan
Aaron Carvan
General Richart's assistant. A former military man, he now works as a contractor for General Richart.- The Lancer: He functions as this for General Richart.
- Mildly Military: His bio mentions that he was in the military at some point, but it's unknown if he still is. Neither the character page or the characters refer to him by rank.
- Punch-Clock Villain: He has mostly kept his personal opinions to himself so far. The worst thing he has done in the comic up until the beginning of chapter 4 has been tranquilizing Dia with the justification that he had his orders.
- Satellite Character: Like Captain Bash, he has had little dialogue so far compared to the other characters. And most of of that has been expository conversations with his boss.
- Trading Bars for Stripes: How he ended up in the military.
Dr. Tolio
Dr. Richard Bernhard Tolio
The head geneticist of Project Cottontail.
- Cannot Tell a Joke: As demonstrated in the Joke Night with Tolio miniseries. The good doctor couldn't tell a joke to save his life.
- Control Freak: As shown in chapter 4, when Dr. Tolio does not take it well when he finds out the chemical that was supposed to ensure complete control over the chio is ineffective on the 2nd gens.
- Four Eyes, Zero Soul: Is never seen without his glasses.
- Hero Killer: Shoots and kills Dr. Calway at the end of chapter 4.
- Herr Doktor: His character bio mentions that he immigrated from Germany to the U.S. when he was a child. He doesn't have the accent, though.
- Lack of Empathy: Despite being one of the main reasons the chio exist, he shows little to no concern about their well being. He completely ignores a panicking Dia when he is running tests on her at the beginning of chapter 4.
- Noodle Incident: He did something to a group of bullies in his youth that resulted in him being forced to either work for the FBI or face a life sentence in prison.
- Recruiting the Criminal: He previously worked for the FBI's chemical weapons divison after a revenge plot against some bullies went wrong as an alternative to a possible life sentence. We're never told exactly what he did
- The Sociopath: Fits most of the criteria with his complete lack of social skills and empathy, and his willingness to move the project forward at any cost.
Dr. Calway
Dr. Ashley Calway
The doctor in charge of language research on Project Cottontail- Action Girl: Not usually, but she's this when the situation calls for it. She disarms and knocks out a crazed Dr. Tolio in Chapter 4, and shortly afterwards gets into a gunfight with some rebels that made it into the base.
- Conflicting Loyalty: As the comic goes on, it's becoming increasingly clear that Dr. Calway does not approve of the methods used in Project Cottontail.
- Motherly Scientist: She cares very much for the chio under her care, and is very upset when General Richart forces Colonel Harren to begin combat testing.
Dr. Wolzarski
Dr. Kyle Wolzarski
A chemical engineer working on project Cottontail, and a friend of Dr. Calway.- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: His advice gives General Richart his first successful combat test, which is exactly what Dr. Calway and Colonel Harren were trying to avoid.
Chio
Geedy
Subject 23-3 "Geedy"
A first generation chio who has spent his entire life isolated from most other living beings.- The Cynic: Due to his upbringing, he has a very bleak outlook on life and assumes the worst about the researchers' intentions.
- The Eeyore: He is in a very depressed state at the beginning of the comic. After meeting Dia, it's starting to fade, but he's still very cynical.
- The Woobie: For the reasons stated above.
Dia
Subject 57-17 "Dia"
A very hyperactive second-generation chio- Genki Girl: Dia is undoubtedly the most active and idealistic character in the comic.
- The Pollyanna: She has yet to be put into a situation that gets her into a bad mood for very long.
