Mark Benford

The Special Agent put in charge of the investigating the Blackout due to having seen a Room Full of Crazy in his flashforward which has thus far been helping with the case.

  • Double Standard: Gives his wife all kinds of hell for being with another man in her flash forward... but then conceals from her that he was drinking in his.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Was subjected to these many, many, many times by pretty much every single other character. Demetri even went as far as punching him in the face.

Demetri Noh

Mark's partner who didn't have a flashforward and is slated to be shot to death. Is engaged to a defense attorney and can sing well.

  • Berserk Button: Really doesn't want to hear that the future can't be averted.
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: In early episodes, Demetri had a tendency to come off as this in relation to Idiot Ball-holding Mark.
  • Interchangeable Asian Cultures: Averted. In an early episode, very sharply corrects a woman who can't figure out if his name is "Chinese or Vietnamese or something..." "It's Korean."
  • Race Lift: Was of Greek heritage in the novel, but changed to Korean when John Cho was cast. The name "Demetri" is a holdover.
  • Someone to Remember Him By: Intentionally invoked when he proposes getting Janis pregnant.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: If the flashforwards come true, he starts off the show with less than six months before he is murdered by Mark.

Stanford Wedeck

FBI's no-nonsense Assistant Director.

Janis Hawk

FBI Special Agent tasked with watching over Dr. Simon Campos. Is a single lesbian. In her flashforward, saw herself pregnant.

Technically he's CIA, but he works with the main characters on multiple occasions.

  • CIA Evil, FBI Good: Vogel's no evil per se, but some of his actions qualify as questionable.

Hospital Staff

Dr Bryce Varley

A young surgical intern reporting to Dr Benford. Was on the verge of commiting suicide befoe the Blackout due to having advanced stage kidney cancer. In his flashforward he sees himself still alive and meeting with a pretty Japanese girl; this renews his love of life and inspires him to go on living. Is friends with Nicole.

Nicole Kirby

19 year old student, Charlie's babysitter and volunteer at the hospital. Is friends with Bryce.

The Physicists

Dr Lloyd Simcoe

An academic whose experiment is thought to have contributed to the Blackout. He is a recently widowed father of an autistic son, Lloyd is the man Olivia saw herself with in her flashforward.

  • Foil: To Mark Benford. Where Mark is harsh and know-it-better-than-thou, Lloyd is gentle and willing to apologize for what turns out to not have been his fault.
  • The Rival: To Mark for Olivia's affections.
  • Your Cheating Heart: In the flash forward.
