Reina

Voiced by (Japanese): Kou Shibasaki (Legends of the True Savior), Mai Nakahara (Legends of the Dark King, JP)

Voiced by (English): Emily Neves (Legends of the Dark King), Alejandra Reynoso (Legend of the True Savior)

Making her first appearance in Legend of Raoh: Chapter of Love in Death and later in Legends of the Dark King, Reina is a childhood friend of Raoh, and a native of the Land of Shura. Before Raoh left, he promised Reina he would return to save their home; however, Reina and her older brother Souga would journey to the mainland and assist him with the building of his army, following the nuclear war. Assigned the role of Raoh's captain of his royal guards, Reina leads his cavalry using the sword-style Nichigetsu Soutou'' ("Twin Blades of the Sun and Moon"), earning her the nickname "Reina of the Twin Blades".

  • Dual Wielding: Uses two swords in battle.
  • The Heart: Seems the most idealistic of Raoh's generals. She at first advocates they try and get Toki to join them. She also quickly becomes concerned when Raoh and her brother start becoming more ruthless.
  • Red Baron: Reina of the Twin Blades.

Souga

Voiced by (Japanese): Unshō Ishizuka (Legends of the True Savior), Masaya Matsukaze (Legends of the Dark King, JP)

The older brother of Reina, Souga appears in Legend of Raoh: Chapter of Love in Death as Raoh's closest confidant and friend, and a master of Suzan Senpuu Kyaku ("Mt. Song Whirlwind Kick"). However, he is executed by Raoh during a failed assassination attempt, whom Raoh accuses of masterminding it. Legends of the Dark King expands on his story before his death: upon leaving the Land of Shura, Souga joins Raoh as his primary strategist for his campaign to conquer the world. Their victories earned Souga the title "Souga the Swift"; unfortunately, his right leg is a prosthetic, having lost it after conquering the city prison Cassandra.

When he was struck with a fatal attack by the warrior Gaiya, giving him a mere two months of life left, Souga decides on a ruse to scare Raoh's troops out of any inclinations of desertion or rebellion. To that end, with Raoh's acknowledgement, he and an appointed hitman deliberately fail the assassination attempt on Raoh, who subsequently kills his good friend in front of his horrified men, solidifying their allegiance to Ken-oh.

Dharma

Voiced by (Japanese): Yusaku Yara

Voiced by (English): Luis Galindo

Yuria and Ryuga's guardian when they were children, Dharma first appeared as the unnamed individual who brought Yuria to Ryuken's temple in the manga. In Legend of Yuria, Dharma, who was the Last General of Nanto, ordered the Nanto Goshasei to retrieve Yuria from Shin, to ensure protection of the Nanto bloodline. He passes away when Yuria reunites with him; in his honor, she ascends to his position.

Sara

Voiced by (Japanese): Aya Hirano

Voiced by (English): Elizabeth Maxwell

Appearing in Legend of Toki, Sara is a female doctor with connections to Ryuken's temple. A close friend of Toki and his Love Interest, she is the one who diagnoses him with radiation poisoning. When Toki decides to leave the temple, Sara travels with him to build the Village of Miracles.

Unfortunately, Pluto is secretly manipulated by Gaiya, despite being the leader of his troops.

From Legends of the Dark King

Sakuya

Voiced by: Akiko Kimura (JP), Shelley Calene-Black (ENG)

Appearing exclusively in the Legends of the Dark King Animated Adaptation, Sakuya is a mysterious woman with an unknown agenda who joins Raoh as his secondary strategist. She is the younger sister of Gaiya and a master of Kokuzan Ongyo Ken ("Black Mountain Dark Form Fist"), a style that renders its user near invisible. On occasion, Sakuya visits Toki in his prison cell at Cassandra, reporting on Raoh and Kenshiro's progress; only Reina is aware of her actions. Upon witnessing Raoh and Souther's increasing hegemony, Sakuya determines both men are unworthy of being a conqueror (Souther lacks compassion and love; Raoh cannot emote sadness), noting there's another individual who possesses both traits. In order to stop their climatic duel, she takes the fatal blow from both martial artists' fists.

  • Canon Immigrant: As stated, she is exclusive to the Animated Adaptation.
  • Enigmatic Minion: Swears loyalty to Raoh early on, yet reports to Toki on Kenshiro's movements and later goes to meet Souther…
  • Stealth Expert: Is able to meet visit Toki's cell in Cassandra with hardly anyone noticing. This seems to be an inherent trait of Kokuzan Ongyo Ken.

Ryuroh

Voiced by: Jun'ichi Suwabe (JP), Kalob Martinez (ENG)

A master of Nanto Ryuo Ken ("South Star Seagull Fist"), he was reputed as the "Wise Leader of the South Star" (Nanto no Jisho), a military strategist who led Nanto troops to several victories. When the 108 schools of Nanto Seiken broke up and began fighting amongst themselves, Ryuroh chose a life of solitude and peace, not wishing to be involved in the conflicts. Living now as the hermit "Ryuroh of the Woods", he attempts to convince Raoh to change his mind of conquering the world, and use his abilities as a force of good like his brothers Toki and Kenshiro. Raoh believes this is an act of defiance against him, and the two are forced to fight. He mortally wounds Ryuroh, but discovers he was already dying from illness. Ryuroh makes a final plea, hoping Raoh will turn from his ways with his death.

Ryuroh makes an appearance in Soukaku no Garou as a advisor and stand-in for Shew (who is absent due to his feud with Souther), when the six Nanto Seiken masters were convened to consider the actions of Rei's rogue master, Rofu.

Gaiya

Voiced by: Masayuki Katou (JP), Leraldo Anzaldua (ENG)

Another master of Kokuzan Ongyo Ken, Gaiya is the older brother of Sakuya. He infiltrated Pluto's army and gained control of his organization from behind-the-scenes, becoming its actual figurehead. When he confronts Souga and Ryuga, his mastery of Kokuzan Ongyo Ken proves too formidable, he winds up wounding Souga, who is left with a few months to live.

    From Soukaku no Garou

Yuh

A young drifter who Rei meets in his search for his sister Airi, Yuh tells the Nanto Suichō Ken master that she may be at Asgarzul, a city created to shelter women. Yuh claims to be a practitioner of Nanto Seiken, but is used as a ruse to gain Rei's compliance and sympathy.

Yuh is the adopted younger sister of Eva, Queen of Asgarzul. As a child, Yuh's mother was killed by bandits, but Eva took her into the city under her protection, but also to ensure her legacy can be passed on, as Eva saw Yuh as her potential successor. With her adoptive sister's death, Yuh is forced to ascend to the title of "queen" to ensure the city and its citizens can continue their way of life.

Frieda

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/freida_hokuto_revive.png
Leader of "Eva's Valkyries", the elite guard who protect Asgarzul and the Queen, Freeda sees to it that the men who venture in and out of Asgarzul remain in order. When Eva is assassinated, Freeda accuses Rei of the hit, but is unsure he is the culprit when he has no motives to kill her. In the meantime, Freeda continues to protect the women of Asgarzul, as various, lawless factions seek to overthrow the women's control of the city.

Eva

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eva_rei_gaiden.png
Queen of Asgarzul, a city built by women to be the "red-light district" of the new, terrible world, Eva is gifted with the foreknowledge of things that must come to pass. She invites Rei into her city, reminding him of his destiny as the Star of Justice, but also one who holds the potential to be as great as other conquerors in the world. According to Eva, many men have come to Asgarzul seeking her guidance and pleasure, including Shin, Souther and Raoh. However, none have dared conquered the city because of what it stands for. Her assassination sets off the plot for Soukaku no Garou, and Rei intends to find the individual who has framed him for her death.
  • My Death Is Just the Beginning: She lets herself be assasinated by Rofu, knowing that Rei will be blamed for her death, which will in turn set in motion the events that will lead to Rei surpassing his master Rofu and becoming the new master of Nanto Suicho Ken.

Zan

The successor to Nanto Kojaku Ken, Zan intends to conquer Asgarzul for Rofu, but is actually a double agent working for Yuda.

Rima

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rima_hokuto_revive.png
A former guardian of Asgarzul and one of Eva's closest bodyguards, Rima is a product of genetic engineering and experiments done by government scientists prior to the nuclear fallout to create the ultimate super-soldier. Also known as "Rima of Alkaid", his physical strength is monstrous and unmatched. Although he initially serves as Rofu's right-hand man, his loyalty lies with Eva.

Karen

A practitioner of Nanto Hisui Ken, Karen was a close friend of Rei during his days of training in Nanto Suichō Ken. Following the nuclear apocalypse, she aligned with Raoh, after her brother Masaya was killed as part of Shuh's resistance against Souther, and is seen watching Rei and Rofu during their bout. She reppears in the extra chapters of Soukaku no Garou, under orders from Raoh to invade Mamiya's village and conquer it, when Kenshiro left to seek Jagi. Rei is forced to fight and kill her.

Rofu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rofu_hokuto_revive.png

The previous successor to Nanto Suichō Ken and Rei's master, Rofu was a stern and strict pracitioner of the style. He favors raw strength to perfect the art, and demands that Rei must do the same if he is to succeed him. After the nuclear war, Rofu seeks to conquer the heavens and take back the title of successor of Nanto Suichō Ken.

Linlei

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rinrei_hokuto_revive.png

Rofu's wife and a fellow practitioner of Nanto Suichō Ken, Linlei was originally in the running lead to be the successor, noted to be even stronger than Rofu, but gave it up to marry him. Although Rofu may have taught Rei the raw, powerful aspects of the style, Linlei is the one who showed Rei that Nanto Suichō Ken is also about beauty, elegance and grace. From her, Rei was able to learn the Nanto Suichō Ken technique, Hien Ryubu, which Linlei was famous for. In order to stop her power-hungry husband after the apocalypse, Linlei was forced to fight Rofu, but let her guard down, and was killed by him.

  • Spell My Name With An S: Depending on the translations, her name is spelled either as "Linlei", "Linley" or "Rinrei".

Luka

From New Fist of the North Star

Tobi

Voiced by: Akimitsu Takase (New Fist of the North Star, JP), Christoper Loveless (New Fist of the North Star, ENG)

A wandering adventurer who works as an intelligence broker, Tobi is rescued by Kenshiro when Sanga's scouting party ambushed a group of villagers he was leading to water. He finds his long-lost brother Bista in Lastland, being used by the tyrant Sanga as a false God, and works with Kenshiro to rescue him. When Seiji arrives on the scene and conquers Lastland, Tobi manipulates the Lastlanders' faith in Bista to incite an uprising against Seiji, and is soon corrupted by the power he wields.

  • Face–Heel Turn: Similar to Sanga, he is corrupted by the power he wields, installing himself as a pope-like figure by exploiting the Lastlanders' religious mania on account of his familial relationship with Bista, whom they worship as a god.
  • Killed Off for Real: Cut down in cold blood by Ches.
  • Non-Action Guy: He tries, but he's sorely outclassed by Sanga, Seiji, and their minions.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Repents his evil acts as he lies dying, apologizes to Kenshiro and begs him to go and rescue Bista from Seiji.

Bista

Voiced by: Romi Park (New Fist of the North Star, JP), Korey Simeone (New Fist of the North Star, ENG)

Tobi's little brother, known for his illusions and parlour magic. Suffering from amnesia after the nuclear war, he was taken by Sanga and set up as "Lord Doha," a false God used to manipulate the Lastlanders and make them more docile. His amnesia is cured by Sara, but he is assaulted by Sanga and is seriously wounded. Kenshiro leaves for Cliffland to find medicine for Bista, inadvertently leaving Lastland undefended when Seiji arrives.

Sara

Voiced by: Yurika Hino (New Fist of the North Star, JP), Katie Gillette (New Fist of the North Star, ENG)

A kind-hearted medicine woman living in Freedom Village, where she heals people with Hokumon no Ken (Fist of the North Gate) techniques she learned from her parents. She is kidnapped by Sanga, who hopes to set her up as another false God of Lastland in order to subjugate the populace. After Sanga is killed, Seiji arrives, conquers Lastland, and imprisons Sara once more. Sara realizes that Seiji once saved her from a wild dog when they were both children, and consequently refuses to flee Lastland with Tobi, hoping instead to convince Seiji to give up his evil ways.

Sanga

Voiced by: Unshō Ishizuka (New Fist of the North Star, JP), John Paul Shephard (New Fist of the North Star, ENG)

The cruel, corrupt dictator of Lastland. After the nuclear war, Sanga takes Tobi's amnesiac brother Bista under his wing and sets him up as the false God "Lord Doha," who he uses to manipulate the people of Lastland into believing that his edicts are actually Doha's divine commands. Sanga is killed by Kenshiro, but not before seriously wounding Bista. When Kenshiro leaves Lastland to find medicine for Bista, Sanga's evil son Seiji arrives on the scene, hoping to claim all of Sanga's lands as revenge for abandoning him as a child.

  • Beard of Evil: Though he is clean-shaved in the original Jubaku no Machi novel.
  • Dirty Coward: Pathetically begs for his life right before Kenshiro kills him.
  • Face–Heel Turn: He was once a good man and loved Seiji dearly, only abandoning him to make him stronger. However, he was corrupted by the power he wielded as ruler of Lastland.
  • Kick the Dog: Impales Bista with a candleabra.
  • Large and in Charge: Big and burly. It does him about as much good against Kenshiro as it did Zeed.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He plans to kill Bista eventually.

Seiji

Voiced by: GACKT (New Fist of the North Star, JP), Adam Dudley (New Fist of the North Star, ENG)

Abandoned by his father Sanga as a child, Seiji was taken in by the Cliffland monks and schooled in the use of Hokumon no Ken. After mastering the art in just two years, he broke his monastic vows and left to conquer Lastland and take his revenge on Sanga. Finding the tyrant dead, he takes control of Lastland and imprisons Sara, Tobi, and Bista. Sara realizes that Seiji saved her from a wild dog when they were both children, and refuses to escape with the others, believing that there is still good in Seiji.

  • Always Someone Better: He is legitimately strong, but against a post-Kaioh Kenshiro he's taken apart like a helpless child.
  • A Pupil of Mine Until He Turned to Evil: Abandons the Cliffland temple and kills any Clifflanders who attempt to bring him to justice.
  • Ax-Crazy: He's violent, sadistic, and prone to nightmares and fits of uncontrollable rage about his past. Not to mention, his only plan for dealing with Tobi's army is to kill everyone.
  • Bad Boss: Has no qualms with slapping Ches around and sending his soldiers off to die. He eventually presses the "Gakuchu" point on Ches' forehead, dooming him to an explosive death unless he defeats Tobi's army. Ches accomplishes this and Seiji presses another vital point that spares him, but then Kenshiro hits the "Gakuchu" point again and Seiji decides to let Ches die.
  • Berserk Button: Flips out whenever he thinks about Sanga abandoning him. He also becomes enraged when Kenshiro remarks that the ascetic nature of Hokumon no Ken makes it inferior to Hokuto Shinken in battle.
  • Big Bad: The last and deadliest villain Kenshiro faces in New Fist of the North Star.
  • Freudian Excuse: Abandoned by Sanga as a child, he grew up believing that strength was all that mattered.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: His only plan for dealing with Tobi's rebellion.
Seiji: Kill everyone who disobeys. Kill, kill, and then kill some more.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After he realizes that Sanga truly loved him, and only abandoned him as part of a test to make him stronger, Seiji realizes the error of his evil ways and commits suicide.
  • Past Experience Nightmare: He is plagued by nightmares of Sanga dropping him off a cliff.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Subverted. He had hoped to kill Sanga, but Kenshiro had already done the deed.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: As a boy, he saved a young Sara from a wild dog, similar to how a young Raoh saved Tou from wolves in the Hokuto no Ken anime series.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: It's hard not to feel for him, considering his horrific childhood and clear mental instability. At the same time, he's a brutal, ruthless warlord responsible for countless deaths.

Ches

Voiced by: Kiyonobu Suzuki (New Fist of the North Star, JP), Lowell Bartholomee (New Fist of the North Star, ENG)

Formerly one of Sanga's troops, he abandons his master when Kenshiro attacks. He later schemes to retake Lastland for himself, but this is interrupted by the arrival of Seiji, who offers Ches the choice of serving him or death. Ches chooses the former and becomes Seiji's minion for the rest of the OVA.

  • The Brute: The only thing he's good at is brutalizing and oppressing those weaker than him.
  • Butt-Monkey: Constantly tormented by Seiji and Kenshiro. It'd make him sympathetic if he weren't such a sadistic coward otherwise.
  • Dirty Coward: Abandons Sanga, cowers in fear of Seiji, and eventually begs Kenshiro to spare his life.
  • Villainous Breakdown: After Seiji presses the fatal "Gakuchu" point on his forehead and tells him to defeat Tobi or die, Ches becomes a fearful, blood-crazed lunatic. When Seiji reverses the effect after Tobi is defeated, Ches seems to revert to normal, only for Kenshiro to strike the "Gakuchu" point again. This time, Ches really breaks down, futilely begging for his life.

Roushi

Voiced by: Travis Dean (New Fist of the North Star, ENG)

The leader of the Clifflanders, a group of warrior-monks who practice Hokumon no Ken, an offshoot of Hokuto Shinken developed by a failed Hokuto successor for use as an ascetic and healing art. The Clifflanders do not allow outsiders into their temple, and no one is allowed to leave their order. When Kenshiro arrives in Cliffland seeking medicine for Bista, Roushi's disciples attack him, but are quickly outmatched. Recognizing Kenshiro as the successor to Hokuto Shinken, Roushi tells Kenshiro of Cliffland's dark secret: the temple houses a stockpile of nuclear weapons, which the monks guard to prevent their misuse. He also informs Kenshiro of Seiji, a renegade Clifflander who has left the order to conquer Lastland.

  • All Monks Know Kung-Fu: Presumably a master of Hokumon no Ken.
  • Mr. Exposition: His main purpose, story-wise, is to fill Kenshiro in on Seiji's backstory and give him some medicine for Bista.
  • Warrior Monk: The leader of an entire order of them, though we don't see him fight.
