Lucifenian Court
Riliane Lucifen d'Autriche/Rin
- "Now, bow to me!"
The ruler of the country of Lucifenia and the focus of the "Pride" arc in the Seven Deadly Sins Series. She causes many bad things in her tyrannical rule, including imposing heavy taxes, ordering the execution of her captain of the guards after he smuggled food out of the country to help poor farmers during a famine, and executed the genocide of the people of Elphegort after getting jealous of one of the girls there.

- Angsty Surviving Twin: After Allen dies.
- Arranged Marriage: With Kyle, arranged by their parents.
- The Atoner: After the events of the Story of Evil; all alone, she lives with her guilt for the rest of her life in a monastery, taking care of orphaned children. She also helps Clarith plant the New Millennium Tree, aka Michaela, the girl she ordered killed.
- Badass Boast: Several in Master of the Heavenly Yard."If you insist on getting in my way, I shall not be merciful, for I am the prideful princess, the Daughter of Evil.""No matter what kind of person you might be, if you oppose me - I will completely purge you!"
- Bad Boss: See Disproportionate Retribution, being a servant in the Lucifenian Royal Palace is literally "risking one's neck."
- Big Bad: Of the Story of Evil. Except she's not.
- Big Brother Bully: She used to be a female version of this to Allen when they were six, albeit only because she was possessed at the time and being manipulated by Presi.
- Big Damn Heroes: Later on, after joining the Held Monastery, she comes to Yukina's rescue when the girl is being attacked by Abyss I.R., stopping her from being consumed by flames from the Marlon Spoon.
- Break the Haughty
- The Caligula: During her time ruling Lucifenia, being too sheltered to know anything about politics while too homicidal and selfish to care.
- Character Development: Arguably goes through the most character development of anyone in the series; Riliane started out as a sweet but spoiled little girl and grew into a cruel and ill-behaved tyrant who expected others to do everything for her. The outcome of the Revolution turned her into a humbler, kinder nun in a monastery, regretful of what she'd done to the end of her days. Later, reincarnating into Rin Miroku adds to her character development, as she finally learns how to take initiative for herself. She displays all of this growth in the Master of the Heavenly Yard novel.
- The Chains of Commanding: Is expected to run an entire country as a teenager.
- Clingy Jealous Girl: Towards King Kyle.
- Disproportionate Retribution: She executes people for spilling things on her dress and looking at her wrong, and destroyed an entire country out of jealousy.
- Enfante Terrible: As the princess of Lucifenia and briefly in her childhood while possessed by the Demon of Gluttony.
- Even Bad Women Love Their Mamas: She chose to be called a princess out of respect for her late mother.
- Evil Laugh: Her Noblewoman's Laugh as she demands others bow to her.
- Expository Hairstyle Change: After she repents her hair gets shorter and styled with only a few hairclips.
- Friend to All Children: Took care of the convent orphans once she became the Mother Superior.
- God Save Us from the Queen!: An absolutely incompetent and homicidally petty ruler; demonstrated with how she tried to destroy all of Elphegort out of jealousy of one citizen.
- Go Out with a Smile: Appears to do this at her execution. At her actual death, as an old nun, she died peacefully surrounded by the orphan children she took care of.
- Half-Identical Twins: With her long lost twin brother, Allen, to the point where they pull a successful switch at the end to spare her life.
- Heel–Face Turn: After Allen sacrifices himself to save her.
- Incoming Ham: "O ho ho ho ho! Now, bow to me!"
- It's All About Me: One of Riliane's most famous character traits is her selfishness; during her reign this is amped up to homicidal levels where she believes she is literally the only important person in the country. Even after she's exorcised of her demon she remains a little self-centered, just not unlikably so. It's even Played for Laughs in the Master of the Heavenly Yard novel, where rather than sacrifice herself to save the world she quite naturally expects (and demands) that Allen Take a Third Option.
- Jerkass: Verbally or physically abuses everyone on top of being a tyrannical despot.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She is also friendly to a lucky few, most noticeably Chartette and Ney.
- Lack of Empathy: She cared little for other people except those she knew personally, although after her exorcism she begins to care about others a great deal, hoping for peace after planting Michaela.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: Her forgetting Allen was a result of amnesia caused by exorcising the Demon of Gluttony out of her as a child.
- Let Them Die Happy: On her death bed, one of the orphans in her care during her time as a nun gives her a letter claiming it to be Allen's response to the one she sent him. Played with in that it's subtly implied that she knew it was fake, though she thanks him anyway and dies with a peaceful smile on her face, showing that it still worked.
- Lonely at the Top: Her Freudian Excuse. She believes that showing her true self and crying will just make those around her consider her weak, but as a result feels terribly lonely and estranged from people, trying to fill the void by being a spoiled brat.
- Machiavelli Was Wrong: She rules by fear alone, with many of her ministers either agreeing with her or being executed. La Résistance doesn't need to try hard to find supporters, even inside her own castle.
- Meaningful Rename: Drops the lengthy and sophisticated-sounding title she has as a monarch for the much more humble "Rin" to hide her identity when she lives in the monastery.
- Mistress and Servant Boy: She's the mistress to her servant Allen, and while she's younger than is typical and more evil than just an Ice Queen, she does fulfill the relationship dynamic.
- My God, What Have I Done?: After realizing that her own brother sacrificed himself to save her.
- Narcissist: Well obviously.
- Noblewoman's Laugh: At the very beginning of her song she lets out a high, crowing laugh.
- Not Good with Rejection: Kyle breaks up with her, with disastrous results.
- Oh, Crap!: After joining the monastery she understandably has a strong reaction to Germaine coming to visit, panicking and dropping the tea she was serving.
- Off with His Head!: She gets her head cut off with a guillotine just like she had done to so many others, only not really since her brother switched places with her.
- The Ojou: The bratty variety. She was called "oujo-sama", which means "princess", instead of the typical "ojou-sama" (young mistress) though.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: As the revolution is in full swing and she knows that she and Allen are about to die, she starts talking to Allen about...her insecurities. You know things are going downhill when someone as vain, selfish and stubborn as Riliane is being so open about herself. She even drops her lofty pronoun.
- Pimped-Out Dress: Had a bright yellow dress with tons of frills.
- Please, Don't Leave Me: She begs this of Allen when he's preparing to switch places with her in the Revolution. By that time, however, she's been locked into her room and has no choice but to leave him behind.
- Pride Before a Fall: She thought she was untouchable until the revolution happens and she fell hard.
- Princesses Rule: Invoked. Refused to be called queen until she came of age out of respect for her mother.
- Royal Brat: A princess who was spoiled absolutely rotten.
- Seven Deadly Sins: She commits them all, making her the nastiest of the Seven Deadly Sins Series characters. Aside from being prideful (what she represents, and the demon she is possessed by), she was also greedy (heavily taxing the poor needlessly), slothful (preferring to have people like Allen do all the work), gluttonous (to the point where she makes a miniature castle out of cake), lustful (for Kyle), envious (of Michaela, for stealing Kyle's affection), and wrathful (her envy leads her to order the Green Hunting).
- Sibling Yin-Yang: Was very selfish, contrasting with her self-sacrificing brother.
- Smug Snake: Fittingly enough, possessed by Pride; she doesn't understand not only that her people's hatred for her overrides their loyalty to the d'Autriche family line, but that they're strong enough to beat her soldiers and the mercenaries protecting her.
- Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Displays this in the novel, killing multiple people for the most minor offenses. Another example in the manga is seriously threatening to cut Allen's head off for not letting her win a game.
- Villainous Princess: She is the spoiled and wrathful princess of the Kingdom of Lucifenia. Nicknamed the Daughter of Evil, she horribly mistreats her servants and twin brother Allen and tries to carry out a genocide on the women of Elphegort because her arranged fiance chose one of them over her. It is only after Allen sacrifices himself to save her life that she reflects on her villainous nature, regretting what she did and going to live in solitude as a nun.
Allen Avadonia/Alexiel Lucifen d'Autriche
- "If it's to protect you, I will even become evil"
Riliane's servant and twin brother, though she has long forgotten he's the latter. Separated from his sister in childhood, he dedicates himself to her protection no matter the cost, and is the most loyal of all of Riliane's servants. Even past his sister's reign, he continues to have a sizable impact in the Story of Evil and indeed the Evillious Chronicles on a whole.
Represented by: Kagamine Len
- Alliterative Name: Only his adopted name, starts with two As.
- Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence: Kind of, having a larger ability to impact the world than the average ghost, thanks to Sickle.
- Battle Butler: Excels at fencing, and acts as Riliane's personal servant.
- Big Brother Instinct: To the extreme, protecting Riliane at all costs. Though, he's the younger one.
- This attitude is increasingly examined as the series goes on, with Allen repeatedly questioning if he's really right to protect Riliane in light of all she does and what the heck made his devotion so strong in the first place. At one point in the Heavenly novel he questions if he might have been unintentionally brainwashed to protect Riliane by his upbringing.
- Blessed with Suck: The Black Box he's in serves as some sort of Akashic Records, giving him most of the information on the world and its events. However, he's still trapped in it, and is unable to enter the Heavenly Yard to meet with his past family and friends.
- Cannot Spit It Out: With Michaela, only able to blurt out his feelings for her while she's dying. On a sadder note, when he saw his dying mother for the last time, she told him she loved him but he was too timid to say it back.
- Character Narrator: He's this in Cloture of Yellow for the most part, and is the narrator for the "Seven Crimes and Punishments" album booklet.
- Childhood Friends: With Chartette.
- Child Prodigy: Noted as being a genius in fencing, although not able to match Leonhart in strength.
- The Chosen One: He's described by Sickle to be an "irregular" existence; Banica also claims he's immune to demonic influence in the Seven Crime and Punishment story.
- Combat Pragmatist: Unable to win in a fair fight against Leonhart, he has his wine drugged beforehand.
- The Comically Serious: When placed in a comedic situation, he's usually the only one who keeps up a serious demeanor.
- Deadpan Snarker: When he's not The Comically Serious or in a serious moment, he's this.
- Declaration of Protection: Promises to protect Riliane even if everybody else hates her.
- Died on Their Birthday: Allen (disguised as his twin sister, Riliane) is executed via guillotine for his sister's crimes on their shared birthday.
- Dirty Coward: All There in the Manual says that since nobody knew of his Undying Loyalty to Riliane, the USE's history books remember him as a coward who was the first to abandon the princess while the revolution was in full swing.
- The Dragon: To Riliane, in the grand scheme of things.
- Dude Looks Like a Lady: Subverted. Those who had met either Riliane or Allen before (Germaine, Kyle, Keel) notice that the "princess" in the cell is not the Daughter of Evil. Also, York (one of the revolutionaries) notes the princess they caught is "a little masculine/tomboyish"
- False Confession: He confesses to Kyle in jail that he killed Michaela, despite the fact that he didn't even know who did it.
- Half-Identical Twins: With his twin Riliane, whom he's able to successfully pass for so that he gets executed in her place and she lives.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Lets himself be executed in place of his sister, so that she may live and become a better person; doing so also prevented further political conflict in that the kingdom still had a scapegoat to execute and appease the wrath of the people.
- Historical Villain Upgrade: In-universe. While Yukina made sure that her novel showed the true events, most Evillious historians remember him as a Dirty Coward who abandoned Riliane to save his own hide during the revolution; when Gallerian Marlon heard the true events, for example, he was fascinated but skeptical of its validity, despite Ma insisting it was true. Could double as a case of Written by the Winners.
- Honor Before Reason: When he's fighting, he always wants to stick to a swordsman's code of conduct (such as making sure your opponent is armed) rather than doing what it takes to win. Leonhart chides him for this in their duel, and later in the Heavenly Yard novel Gammon shoots at him in the middle of their swordfight.
- I Am Who?: Doesn't realize he's special until Sickle tells him so.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's painted as a selfless, tragically evil character in the songs, but in the novels his selflessness for his sister is downplayed and more of his day to day sarcasm and standoffish nature shows through; usually he's only nicer to those he knows personally (Riliane, Michaela, Chartette and Germaine for example). Even then it depends on the situation. Despite this, though, he's a fourteen-year-old kid set in a horrible situation and you can't really blame him for being a bit caustic.
- Lady and Knight: He's the black Knight sworn to protect his dark Lady, although Riliane doesn't know how deeply devoted he is to her and just has him doing her personal menial work.
- Love at First Sight: To Michaela.
- Love Martyr: To the point of sacrificing his life for his sister. He finds himself questioning this attitude a lot, especially later.
- Messianic Archetype: An unjustly reviled martyr who "died for his sister's sins" and befriended the Master of The Heavenly Yard after death, which allowed him to appear to his allies on a few occasions similar to how Jesus was resurrected. He ends up being the savior of the entire world in the final Deadly Sins of Evil novel.
- Mistress and Servant Boy: Most of the time this is Allen's relationship to Riliane, however much he plays it up (although they do become quite close over time.)
- Morality Pet: To Riliane—the audience is meant to believe more in her atonement from her sins because he sees good in her (even if it never shows itself until after he's dead.) The revised version of the novel also has a scene in which he's able to convince her to stop warring with Elphegort, because he threatens to leave the palace if she doesn't.
- Murder Is the Best Solution: Briefly considers killing Kyle for breaking Riliane's heart
- My Master, Right or Wrong: This is his relationship with Riliane, defending her and working to keep her happy despite the fact that her opponents are the good guys and her demands are all incredibly selfish. This attitude is even justified to him by Mariam, who says that adults should be the ones worrying about politics and he can just continue to serve his sister. Allen justifies it to himself by thinking that at least someone should be on Riliane's side if no one else is.
- My Sister Is Off-Limits: Says this to Gast when he catches him staring at Riliane. Given the Venom Mercenaries' reputation for sexually harassing women, it's reasonable for him to assume so. Although in this case it's because Riliane resembles Gast's dead little sister.
- Off with His Head!: His eventual fate.
- The Omniscient: Learns the entire history of the Third Period while inside Black Box. However, his knowledge is strictly limited to quantitative data.
- Pals with Jesus: The reason he's able to interact with the world of the living after his death is because Sickle, the god of creation and Master of the Heavenly Yard, has a soft spot for him and listens to his whims.
- The Promise: Promises Riliane twice to always protect her, once when they're children and again when they're teenagers.
- Rousseau Was Right: When not caught up in the politics of the time and his cruel sister's whims, Allen's better nature usually shows through; as a child he was demonstrably selfless and as a spirit he's actively on the side of good, even up to working with the sun god to save everyone in the Hellish Yard.
- Self-Made Orphan: Kills Leonhart, his adoptive father because, among other things, he heard from Ney that he planned for Riliane’s assassination.
- Servile Snarker: Although he isn't dumb enough to snark in front of Riliane, instead only doing so internally, it's a different story for his fellow servants.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: Kinder than his sister, though he became a little more selfish later in life.
- Stepford Smiler: Pretends to be happy when doing some pretty nasty things for Riliane’s sake.
- Take a Third Option: Repeatedly is given choices and a third option to pick between them. He refuses this in the VG version of the first novel when Mariam suggests that, rather than protect the old regime or let the revolutionaries dethrone the monarchy, he kill Riliane himself and use his royal lineage to become king.
- Later in the series Allen recalls a memory of when he was four and his father gives him a choice between buying one of two dolls in glass bottles: a knight, which he wants, and a princess, which he knows Riliane would want. Allen buys the princess to give to Riliane, but keeps the glass bottle for himself, letting them both have something to play with.
- At the climax of the series, Allen is given a choice between killing his sister, who is possessed by Ma, to save the world from being destroyed or sparing his sister and letting Ma kill the world. Rather than choose between one or the other, he, with Nemesis' help, defeats Ma without killing Riliane and saves them both.
- Trauma Button: After his death the guillotine serves as a trigger for Allen, causing him to freak out when Gallerian threatens him with it.
- Twin Switch: With Riliane at the end of Cloture of Yellow, to avoid her getting executed.
- Undying Loyalty: His loyalty to Riliane is absolute.
- The Watson: As the protagonist for the "Seven Crimes and Punishments" story, his mission is to find and talk to all the souls of the seven people most involved with the Demons of Sin to better understand Evillious' history and complete Sickle's mission.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: Was fully aware that his actions during his sister's reign were harmful, but felt that they were necessary for his sister's happiness.
- The Wise Prince: He has far more political savvy then Riliane.
Leonhart Avadonia
- "The entire nation is suffering from hunger. In times like these, the captain of the royal guard shouldn't have such luxuries either."
The captain of the royal guard and Germaine's and Allen's adoptive father. Along with Elluka and Mariam he's one of the Three Heroes of Lucifenia, who was famed for his military service during Lucifenia's war for expansion under King Arth. During the reign of Princess Riliane he was killed by Allen after smuggling food out of Lucifenia to help the poor.
Represented by: LEON
- Action Dad: Adoptive father of Germaine and Allen.
- Alcoholic Parent: He's a known lover of wine and is often found drunk, the exception being when he's abstaining during the famine. Unlike most fathers of this trope, he isn't abusive save for on one special occasion.
- Anger Born of Worry: After Allen and Germaine went off on their own to rescue Chartette, they came back to a furious Leonhart—he was so angry, it was the first and last time he struck Allen.
- The Atoner: His adoption of Germaine and becoming a real father to her, instead of her kidnapper is seen as a kind of penance for how brutal he was towards Beelzenians during the war, her being the sole survivor when he slaughtered her family.
- Becoming the Mask: Originally he kidnapped Germaine from her dead parents after realizing she was part of the Beelzenian Royal Family, thinking she would make a good hostage. Some years later, he comes to love her as his daughter for real.
- Child Soldier: According to the timelines, he was a teenager when he entered into service.
- Courtly Love: Was in love with Queen Anne, but respectful enough of her and Arth to never try anything.
- Curtains Match the Windows: Both eyes and hair are brown.
- Death Seeker: Allen gives Leonhart a chance to live during their duel by tearing up his sword-bearing arm, neutralizing him as a threat. Leonhart continues attacking anyway, claiming that being killed by Allen will be his atonement for his sins.
- The Dreaded: In his past he was this to the people of Beelzenia, being the most ruthless killer in Arth's army whom people feared the sight of.
- Freudian Trio: Of the three heroes, Leonhart is the Ego to Mariam's Superego and Elluka's Id.
- Happily Adopted: He's not a perfect father but he loves his adopted children very much and it shows.
- Just Like Robin Hood: Steals from Riliane's food reserves during a famine to feed the poor, however...
- Kill the Parent, Raise the Child: During the Lucifenian Expansion War, he killed the Beelzenian Imperial Family except for a 2-year-old girl called Zita C. Beelzenia, thinking he would keep her as a hostage while pretending to be her father. He would latter change his mind, changed her name to Germaine Avadonia, and started acting genuinely like a father to her.
- Lady and Knight: He's a white knight to his bright Lady, Anne.
- Lima Syndrome: During his days in the war he "adopted" the infant Germaine because she was a member of the Beelzenian Royal Family and he intended to use her as a hostage. At first he scoffs at the idea that they're a real "family," but five years later, at the first opportunity he has to sell her off to his benefit, he ends up fighting to protect her instead.
- The Mentor: He serves as one for Allen, teaching him in the art of swordplay.
- My God, What Have I Done?:
- It's heavily suggested in Praefacio of Blue that Leonhart adopted Germaine after killing her real (and innocent) parents in the war to expand Lucifenia, seeing the surviving child and realizing how horrible he'd been acting. Although it turns out his real moment of clarity came after he kidnapped Germaine, as he originally intended to use her as a hostage due to her being from the royal family. As she grew up, though, he came to care about her and then realized what a poor life he'd led.
- Even earlier than that, when he betrayed the Beelzenian army out of love for Anne, he ended up killing his younger brother and only realized who he'd killed after doing it. This happened before he actually pledged loyalty to Arth and Anne.
- No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Riliane finds out about his food smuggling and uses it as an excuse to kill him.
- Oblivious to Love: He is completely unaware that Mariam harbors feelings for him, and is still carrying a torch for Anne.
- Parental Substitute: For Germaine, whom he adopted when she was two during a war and for Allen, who was sent from the palace because of political conflicts.
- Sacrificial Lion: His dying showcases Allen's loyalty to Riliane and Riliane's pettiness, but he's well developed from the first chapter of Cloture of Yellow and other appearances. This trope is appropriate, given his name.
- Spell My Name With An S: Leonhart's name is spelled in English as "Leonhart" in the Trinity album but "Leonhardt" in the manga.
- Stay in the Kitchen: A downplayed example towards Germaine where he refuses to teach her how to fight and wants her to be more feminine so she'll get married—this despite him knowing for a fact that women can be badass from Mariam and Elluka. He does eventually acknowledge her skills, however, and it's likely the sentiment arose more out of her being his daughter than just any woman.
- Wouldn't Hit a Girl: Apparently was angry enough to strike Allen, the younger child, after they'd risked their lives to rescue Chartette, but couldn't bring himself to hit Germaine.
Mariam Phutapie/Neomaria
- "I am one of the Three Heroes, Mariam Phutapie! Lucifenian soldiers! Show me your loyalty!"
The Head of Maids of Lucifenia and one of Riliane's personal servants. She is good at cloak-and-dagger activity and also one of the Three Heroes (along with Leonhart and Elluka,) gaining fame for her military service during King Arth's war for Lucifenian expansion. Ney Phutapie is her adopted daughter.

- Action Mom: Adoptive mother of Ney.
- Blood from the Mouth: During her death.
- Child Soldier: She was an army general at 9-years-old.
- Dying Alone: At the end of her duel with Chartette Mariam is stabbed by her adoptive daughter Ney and she dies, bemoaning being betrayed by everyone she cared about.
- Easy Amnesia: She was originally Abyss I.R.'s Tyke-Bomb, Neomaria, but a mistake during a mission made her fall off a cliff. She lost all her memories, and named herself "Mariam" based on what she remembered of her original name.
- Freudian Trio: In the Three Heroes she is the Superego to Leonhart's Ego and Elluka's Id.
- Foil: To her adopted daughter, Ney. Both were raised since birth by Abyss I.R. as assassins, and later in life became loyal to a fault to a royal figure (Arth for Mariam, Prim for Ney). However, while Mariam suffered from amnesia and broke away from Abyss, Ney only pretended to have lost her memories, and continued working for her until she died.
- Informed Ability: Freely admitted to by mothy. He conceived her as a badass spy character, and she's presented as such, but due to the way the narrative works she fails at every turn, not even realizing that her daughter was a Marlon counter-agent.
- In the Back: On the receiving end. From her own adoptive daughter, no less! Ouch.
- Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: During the Revolution she fights in her head maid dress, although during the Lucifenian Expansion War she fought in more battle-appropriate attire.
- Lady of War: Considering how graceful in battle she is even in a clunky maid dress.
- Last Stand: Lucifenia has fallen, Riliane's mercenaries and armies have either been defeated or defected, but Mariam fights to the very end protecting the palace and the princess.
- Love at First Sight: With Leonhart, back when she still was Neomaria. Looking at him made her feel doubt for the first time in her life. This made her accidentally fall off a cliff.
- My Country, Right or Wrong: Seems to be the case for much of the novel, her loyally and dutifully following Riliane even as the country goes increasingly downhill, but ends up being played with in the VG revision of Cloture— she has no loyalty whatsoever to Riliane, just the country itself. When the revolution is in full swing she vows allegiance to Allen instead, telling him that if he had Riliane killed and then endorsed the revolution, he could salvage the monarchy. He refuses and tells her to protect Riliane anyway, which she does begrudgingly.
- Proper Lady: Always polite and methodical, she knows quite a bit about treating royalty, even Riliane.
- Punny Name: Mariam's last name is the Japanese spelling of epitaph (epitafu) with the syllables reversed.
- Silk Hiding Steel: She's a Proper Lady and always wears a maid dress, but is very experienced in battle, as the revolutionaries learned when they tried to take the palace.
- The Stoic: One of the only people Riliane is intimidated by because of this, always wearing a cold expression and ruthlessly efficient.
- Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Despite her stoic personality, she has a very tender and loyal side and tries her best to make everyone happy, even referred to in official materials as a kind-hearted assassin.
- Tyke-Bomb: Trained to kill from a young age by Irina, who used her as an emotionless assassin.

The former queen of Lucifenia. A benevolent and well-tempered ruler, after her husband Arth's death the Kingdom of Lucifenia flourished under her reign. Tragically, she too died of the Gula disease.

- The Beautiful Elite: Rich, beautiful, fashionable, talented, and incredibly humble and sweet.
- Blood from the Mouth: A symptom of the Gula Disease.
- Childhood Friends: With Prim.
- Good Parents: Knew when to be firm with her children while still providing the love and support they needed, showing concern for when Riliane's eating habits started to worsen and giving Alexiel to Leonhart to keep him from being assassinated.

- The High Queen: Was a very good ruler, in contrast with her daughter.

The former king of Lucifenia; ambitious and charismatic, Arth was the one responsible for building Lucifenia into the powerful kingdom it is by Riliane's reign, although he passed away from the Gula disease before he could complete his military expansionism.
- All-Loving Hero: Surprisingly enough. He loves humanity and fights for their sake, according to That King was born from Mud.He's not fighting to be lovedHe's fighting out of love
- Artificial Human: He's a Golem created from mud in image of the deceased Prince Arth. The only one who seems to know this are Anne and himself.

A servant in the Lucifenian Royal Palace whose brother was a politician executed by Princess Riliane. In revenge he tries to attack the princess, but is quickly subdued.
- Adaptation Expansion: While he was only introduced in the novels as someone Allen should defeat, the manga gave him a bit of a backstory and a defined personality.
- Big Brother Worship: He loved his brother dearly, enough to try and murder the ruler of his own country out in the open for having him executed.
- In the manga Asan explains to Allen that his brother was his last surviving family member.
- Revenge Before Reason: Just up and charges at Riliane with a stolen weapon he wasn't experienced with in plain view of people who could, theoretically, have stopped him; he is then easily disarmed.
- Off with His Head!: This is his fate after being arrested, and had previously been his brother's fate.
- Sacrificial Lamb: His only purpose was to be stopped by Allen and show off the servants' fencing ability.
Presi Rogzé
One of the antagonists of the short story "Twiright Prank;" he is Prim Marlon’s brother and the Minister of Internal Affairs in Lucifenia, a rival to the nation's Prime Minister Genesia. In order to gain the upper hand in his rivalry he manufactures a Succession Crisis after Arth's death.
- Demonic Possession: Becomes possessed by the Demon of Gluttony, in order to attack Elluka.
- Empowered Badass Normal: Becomes powerful enough to take on Elluka Clockworker while possessed by the demon of Gluttony.
- Evil Laugh: Starts laughing at Elluka when she confronts him about his evil, though it may have been a sign of his impending Villainous Breakdown.
- Harmful to Minors: Has the (possessed) Riliane in tow when he sets out to poison Genesia. Not that Riliane cared about anything more than her food at the time.
- Master Poisoner: As all the Rogzés, he has an extensive knowledge of poisons and how to administer them to kill someone quickly.
- The Resenter: A fierce rival of Genesia and resentful of his higher political status.
- Unwitting Pawn: He is used by his sister in general and Abyss I.R. in this story; in a double subversion, he is aware he's just a pawn and only goes along with it to get at Genesia, but he doesn't know his sister's true plans (or that his death was part of said plan.)

The Prime Minister of Lucifenia and a character in the short story "Twiright Prank," the rival of minister Presi. Following Arth's death, he becomes Alexiel's regent until the boy comes of age.

Josephine

- Breakout Character: Despite her small role, Josephine is very popular among the fanbase, being a Memetic Bystander and borderline Memetic Badass. Mothy made two mangas about her, obliquely referenced her for Black Comedy in "Lunacy of Duke Venomania" and she had her own musical number in one of the stage productions.
- Uncatty Resemblance: During her time acting as Clarith's steed in the afterlife, it's noted that her white coat matches Clarith's white hair.

Gast Venom/Zenon Octo
- "You are as I was... evil."
A mercenary, also known as the "Demon of Asmodean" for his skill with the sword and almost inhuman speed. A former member of the Asmodean military, after being exiled he becomes the leader of a group of swords-for-hire named the Venom Mercenaries. Riliane hires him and his men to protect the aristocracy when the Revolution begins brewing on the horizon. He was born in Elphegort, his birth name being Zenon, and as a descendant of Duke Venomania he faced a lot of grief in his life.

- Big Brother Instinct: To his sister; he'd even kill for the chance to be with her again after her death.
- Child Soldier: Became an Asmodean soldier at the age of twelve.
- Curtains Match the Windows: Just like his ancestor, both purple.
- Cynicism Catalyst: His younger sister Sarah died due to poverty and it pushed him over the Despair Event Horizon.
- Death Seeker: Not that he holds back, considering how fiercely he fought Germaine. In the end he embraces his death as the only way to be with Sarah again.

Commander of the bastion army of Lucifenian’s Retasan city. She doesn't like being called Riliane because it's the name of the tyrannical princess. Later aids Yukina during her quest to uncover the truth behind the Story of Evil.

He later becomes a pirate captain in Praefacio, sent to attack the ship the protagonists are coming to Marlon on.

- Genius Bruiser: Actually discusses this trope when speaking to King Kyle. In addition to his skills in battle he has a lot of common sense and intelligence, some of it from his years of experience under Arth's reign.
- My Country, Right or Wrong: He certainly doesn't approve of Kyle’s decisions and doesn't believe he's capable of uniting all of Evillious, but he wouldn't defect either—this is the same guy who also carried out the Green Hunting, after all.

Clive
A soldier serving in the Kingdom of Lucifenia. Following Lucifenia's annexation by the Kingdom of Marlon, he often serves at the side of the reigning King Kyle.
- The Dragon: He's a less intimidating example, as the tyrannical King Kyle's right-hand man and commander of the other palace guards.
- Heel–Face Turn: Originally fighting for the cruel regime of the "Daughter of Evil," he's inspired by Kyle in his "Karchess" persona to join the Revolutionaries and is loyal to Kyle ever since. The defection becomes less and less of a good thing as Kyle's regime turns out to be about as cruel, although he doesn't defect this time.
- Real Men Wear Pink: Averted when Kyle states he would be humiliated to be seen with him while he's wearing his pink pajamas.
- Undying Loyalty: He has very strong loyalty to Kyle, despite the king's downward turn in personality and demonic possession, garnered during the Lucifenian Revolution.

Germaine Avadonia/ Zita C. Beelzenia
- "Right on! Comrades! Let us start our revolution!"
Adoptive sister of Allen and adoptive daughter of Leonhart, she leads the revolution of Lucifenia mainly because Riliane makes Allen kill their father. After the revolution, she flees to Beelzenia and becomes a soldier.

- Action Girl: Takes up her father's sword during the revolution.
- Big Damn Hero: In Praefacio, she gets between Kyle and a possessed Ney.
- And then again when saving Yukina from Abyss I.R.

Marlon Court
Kyle Marlon
- "I’m proud of my position as king. One word from my mouth can either save my country or plunge it into Hell. It's a heavy responsibility. Although I walk the path paved by my mother, in the end, she is still unsatisfied."
The king of Marlon and the only son of the Marlon royal family, as well as a major protagonist during the latter half of the Story of Evil. He's Riliane's fiancé, but has no love for her, and instead falls in love with a peasant girl, Michaela; his resultant refusal to marry Riliane is the thing that pushes the Green Hunting to occur. After the massacre, he helps the people of Lucifenia overthrow their tyrannical princess and assumes control over the country.

- Bastard Bastard: Of King Arth (Riliane and Allen’s father).
- Beware the Nice Ones: Was originally a sweet little girl until her mother turned her into an assassin.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She's not as innocent or kind as she seems. see Faux Affably Evil and Ax-Crazy.
- Curtains Match the Windows: Her hair and eyes are both gold; this is notable since In the past, Gretel always had blue eyes.
- Death Equals Redemption: Meeting Kyle just before she's absorbed by the Demon of Gluttony, Ney reverts back to her innocent state as Gretel's soul. She apologizes for all the things "Ney" did in her life and hopes they and her other half-siblings can be friends in a next one.

- Easily Forgiven: Allen forgives her pretty easily for telling Riliane that Allen knows where Michaela is, as well as that, earlier, Leonhart was the one smuggling food from the palace. On a darker note, Kyle also forgives her quickly for everything she'd done on the grounds that she's his sister and legitimately insane.
- Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: Is clearly seen in her illustrations in the latter two Daughter of Evil novels.
- Heel–Face Door-Slam: Ney as Gretel realizes that she's done horrible things, but she also realizes that she can't make amends in her current life; even worse, the demon of Gluttony denies her the chance to be reborn freely, preventing Ney from being reborn with her siblings like she had hoped. Topping it off, around the time Ney is telling Kyle this in a dream, Abyss kills her as she sleeps.

Prim Marlon

The queen dowager of Marlon and mother of Kyle Marlon, as well as an old childhood friend of Queen Anne. She manipulated her son's life to make him a strong champion for the Kingdom of Marlon, regardless of his own wishes.

- Abusive Parents: Her treatment of both her children was absolutely awful, between abusing her power so that she can force Kyle to become king and emotionally manipulating Ney into becoming insanely desperate to please her. The latter bites her right back in the end, though.
- Antagonist in Mourning: After learning that Anne has passed away from the Gula disease, Prim cries all night long because she would never be able to have her proper revenge.
- Big Bad: The real one of the Story of Evil
- Big Bad Friend: She and Anne (Riliane and Allen's mother) were friends when they were young. The friendship was destroyed over Prim trying to poison Arth, although it seems like Anne at least tolerated Prim again later on since it wasn't proven.
- The Chessmaster: Manipulated everything in the Story of Evil.
- Childhood Friends: With Anne.
- Disproportionate Retribution: Anne, her best friend, married the man they both wanted (Prince Arth Lucifen), and after being accused of trying to poison Arth, she decided to make Anne's life miserable. She seduced Arth with the Venom Sword, then had him killed. After Anne died, she decided to screw over her children and make sure Riliane died in despair with a revolution, and seizing Lucifenia, as well as the rest of Evillious, for herself. Needless to say, she goes a bit overboard for the sake of revenge.
- Evil Matriarch: Her treatment of her children as tools to further her goals makes her fit this trope to a T.
- God Save Us from the Queen!: Manipulative, petty and willing to make her country enter two wars in the span of 5 years. Kyle himself calls her a demon in "Handbeat Clocktower."

- Artificial Human: He's a Ghoul Child created by Seth Twiright that was put in cryo-stasis in Marlon during his infancy, waking up after an earthquake. This doesn't seem to have stopped him any in building a life for himself.

- Beware the Nice Ones: He's kind and benevolent to anyone he considers family, but that won't stop him from cheerfully trying to kill Kyle if he thinks he's making a move on his daughter (although Played for Laughs). It's also implied he was a lot shadier in his youth (probably owing from being a Ghoul Child with HER).
- Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: He's very, very protective of his daughter. He even once beat Kyle up for hugging Yukina, assuming that Kyle was making a move on her.

An aristocrat from Marlon who married Keel. The two faced discrimination when they moved to Elphegort, leading to Mikina usually hiring only immigrants and treating any Elphegort native with distrust.

- Benevolent Boss: To Clarith and Michaela; even though she did not initially trust the latter, she warmed up to her a lot by the time the Green Hunting occurred. However, Mikina had to tell Ney where Michaela was hidden.
- Blue Blood: She came from the noble Sfarz family.
- Childhood Friends: With Keel and Kyle.
- Childhood Friend Romance: With Keel.
- Demonic Possession: She was briefly possessed by the Demon of Greed before Prim exorcised her, and is possessed again during the climax of Praefacio. A rare case in this series where she made a contract with the demon on accident and it was not in her long enough to affect her personality.

- Big Good: By the "Sloth" era he'd become this as the leader of the Freezis Foundation, with all its vast resources at his fingertips (which he allows Elluka to make use of.)
- Cheerful Child: Like all of Keel Freezis' children, and is very well behaved in addition.
- Child Prodigy: Under his father's tutoring he becomes very skilled in business.
- A Child Shall Lead Them: Becomes the head of the Freezis Firm at a very young age due to Keel's injury, and doesn't do that bad a job. As he gets older, he turns it into the largest and most comprehensive organization in all of Evillious.
- Cool Old Guy: Becomes this eventually, and emphasis on old—he makes an appearance in the Sloth era, over a hundred years later, at the age of 116.
- Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: It's played down a bit, but he plays the responsible son to the impulsive and occasionally runaway Yukina.
- Long-Lived: He lives to age 116 and even then he isn't particularly decrepit. This is because he began to fear death and Michaela, as the New Millennium Tree, expanded his lifespan.
- Middle Child Syndrome: Averted as, while he is in between Yukina and Aile, since he is the only son he is expected to succeed his father, and both of his parents dote on him to successfully groom him for the position.
- Outliving One's Offspring: Because of his Long-Lived status, he's shown to outlive all of his children, some of his grandchildren, and some of his great-grandchildren (the latter from disease.)

Aile Freezis
Keel Freezis' youngest daughter and the third child of the Freezis family.

- Blue Blood: She marries a Marlon aristocrat after the events of the Story of Evil. Her mother was also a noble.
- Cheerful Child: She's also shown as cheerful and comforting to their father when Yukina ran away, like her brother.

Thorny Elphen
The king of Elphegort and a friend of Keel Freezis as well as Kyle Marlon. Ruling his kingdom to the best of his ability, he also helps aid Lucifenia during its famine as a favor to Kyle.
- The Faceless: Like most novel characters without a profile, but in the one manga he appears in his back is always to the viewer.
- Family Theme Naming: He and the only other Elphen king, Soil, both have garden-based names
- The Good King: A pacifist king who tries to rule Elphegort fairly and justly without the biases of other Elphes, and even helps provide aid for the suffering Lucifenia.

A local boy of Yatski, Elphegort, who's in love with Clarith. Appearing as a supporting character in Wiegenlied of Green, he helps Michaela and Clarith during their days in the village and afterwards as a soldier in the Elphegort army.
- Big Damn Heroes: Towards the end of Wiegenlied, he saves Michaela and Clarith from certain death at the hands of the Lucifenian soldiers.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Implied to be how he met his end, protecting Clarith.

A villager from Yatski, and one of Clarith's main tormentors until Michaela steps in to stop her from her bullying.

- Karmic Death: Not that she was evil, per se, but she's killed during the Green Hunting for having green hair...and bullied Clarith for not having green hair.
- Green-Eyed Monster: One of the reasons she was so nasty to poor Clarith was that she, herself, was in love with Ayn, who had a crush on the girl.

Eugen
- Face–Heel Turn: In his backstory, after being forced to quit the army he took up life as a bandit for a time.
- Heel–Face Turn: He soon reformed after his band of thieves kidnapped the young Chartette. He moves to the right side of the law and
stays on that side, but he's still used as muscle to bully the other villagers, so it's played with. - He Knows Too Much: Eugen discovers that the chief had been stealing the taxes he collects, which are supposed to be for Count Felix, for himself. Soon after, he's killed.
- The Dragon: Was an enforcer for the chief of Yatski, (who served as an antagonist in the second chapter of Wiegenlied.)

Yatski Shaman
- "I also want to thank you. Although it was for a very short span of time, Clarith looked very happy."
A foreign shaman in Yatski specializing in magic and medicine; she takes in Clarith after the infant is abandoned and raises her until dying of the Gula disease.
- Blood from the Mouth: As a result of her infection from Gula, she starts vomiting blood.
- Happily Adopted: She does her best to support Clarith despite the emotional abuse of the other villagers and was happy to see Michaela bring her some happiness.
- No Name Given: She's only referred to as Clarith's mother in-universe.
- Parental Substitute: She took Clarith when the girl was abandoned as a baby.
- Secret Secret-Keeper: She keeps a secret the fact that the "robin" her daughter brought home is a forest spirit, and only comes out to Michaela herself to thank her before she left.
Bruno
Keel Freezis' loyal butler and informant in the Freezis Firm trading guild; although eventually retiring with his wife and family, he provides many years of service for the Freezis family.
- Legacy Character: One of the "Brunos" of the Association who serves the Freezis Firm.
- Old Retainer: He's Keel's oldest and most trusted servant—his dedication to the family extends even past his retirement, where he helps Keel keep track of the runaway Yukina.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: "Bruno" is a name given to him; even his surname isn't known, if he has one at all.
Gerda
One of Keel Freezis' veteran servants, an older woman who serves her masters faithfully as the head maid. She works often with Michaela and Clarith after the two come into the Freezis' employ.
- Beware the Nice Ones: She acts docile and peaceful throughout the novel, but she has been compared to a demon when she's angry.
- Interclass Romance: A servant herself, she starts a relationship with Arkatoir Marlon, half brother to King Kyle.
- May–December Romance: She strikes one up with Arkatoir, Kyle's half-brother.
- Only One Name: Like most of the denizens of Elphegort, although she isn't an Elphe.
Sarah
Gast's little sister who died when she was around ten years old. Her death impacted her older brother deeply.

- Cute Ghost Girl: Subverted. She doesn't come back, it's Yvette pretending to be her.
- Death by Origin Story: Her death serves as part of Gast's origin story in "The Daughter of Fog," his devotion to her becoming a core part of his character forever onward.

Other
Nikolay Tolle
A famous painter who creates several portraits for the nobility of Evillious, his most famous work being a portrait of King Arth and the Three Heroes. He eventually commits suicide.
- Jerkass: Gladly crushed the young Kyle's hopes of being a good painter, criticizing his works harshly, in exchange for a bribe from Prim.
- Driven to Suicide: Though the reasons why go unexplained, he took his own life a year before the Lucifenian Revolution.
- Posthumous Character: His impact on characters such as Kyle and the works he left behind make up his importance to the plot, having died right before the Story of Evil proper.
Duke Oruhari
One of the Five Dukes of Beelzenia; during Yukina's stay, he serves as her host and a self-professed expert on Banica Conchita.
- Blue Blood: A Duke in Beelzenia from a long line of Beelzenian aristocrats.
- Comedic Lolicon: He's pretty flirtatious towards Yukina during their tour; she's a prepubescent teen at the time, but it's all completely harmless.
- No Name Given: He's only known by his last name, Oruhari, and out of universe has to be distinguished by his date of rule.
The Beelzenian Emperor
The reigning Beelzenian Emperor following the death of the previous one to Gula disease. During Marlon's occupation of Lucifenia he gives shelter to the fugitive Lucifenian Resistance.
- Blue Blood: Being from an imperial line.
- The Emperor: He's the emperor of Beelzenia—not that Beelzenia is much of an empire by this point—and is a more benevolent example than most with the trope.
- Hopeless Suitor: He tried to start up a romance with Elluka Clockworker; anyone who knows her character at all can guess this failed from the get-go.
- No Name Given: For him or his father, only distinguished out-of-universe by the dates they ruled.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: He’s reasonable particularly when compared to the likes of Kyle during Praeludium; he gives shelter and military work to the Lucifenian Resistance, gladly receives advice from Gumillia, is very helpful to Yukina during her quest to find the truth, and so on.
The Undead Emperor
The father of the Emperor of Beelzenia during the Story of Evil, who passes away from the Gula Disease.
- Blood from the Mouth: Had the Gula disease in life, and once resurrected he still has this like the other undead.
- Blue Blood: He's one from a long line of Beelzenian emperors.
- Decapitation Presentation: His head is presented to his son by Lily, to show she's on their side now.
- The Emperor: Like his son before him, reigning over the fragmenting Beelzenia.
- No Name Given: The same as his son, he is only distinguished by the date he ruled and being made into an undead soldier.
- Off with His Head!: Lily Mouchet cuts his head off in battle as he leads a troop of undead soldiers.
General Shalgham
- "Tomorrow night, we will destroy that altar before our departure."
A general in Asmodean’s army and Gast's superior during Daughter of Fog.
- Abusive Parents: To Yvette, treating her coldly and coercing her into following his plot to kill Gast.
- Asshole Victim: He is one of the few Story of Evil deaths that you won't cry about, being a religious fanatic who abuses his stepdaughter and antagonizes Gast just because of his heritage.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: Tries to kill Gast after learning his ancestry but is murdered by Yvette (his own stepdaughter) with the vessel of Wrath before he can.
- Manipulative Bastard: Crafted an entire plan to be able to kill Gast legally and not be questioned by either the emperor or his troops.
Yvette
- "However, from my youth, one thing leaves me the greatest regret."
General Shalgham's mistreated stepdaughter, who later becomes the head of the Held Monastery and has knowledge of the Vessels of Sin.
- Abusive Parents: Her general Stepfather emotionally abused her along with her stepbrothers, and she became desperate to do anything to make them love her.
- Dead Person Impersonation: By some chance she shared the same face as Sarah, allowing her lure Gast into a trap. Notably, Gast already knows Sarah is dead, so Yvette just calls herself her ghost, even when Gast notices how warm her body is and insists that she can't be a ghost. Yvette never shows herself to Gast after this, allowing him to continue believing she was Sarah to the end of his life.
- Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: She was mistreated by her step-father her whole life. When he orders her to trick Gast (which would lead to his death), a person who shows her kindness, she decides to go against Shalgham and stab him with the Vessel of Wrath to protect Gast.
- Ship Tease: She takes an interest in Gast, which is why she killed her stepfather (well, that and she was abused).
