Playable Souls

    In General
  • Culture Equals Costume: Much more prominent with Souls that come from the oriental-style country of Gaon, which combines Korean, Japanese, and Chinese cultures into a bigger one. Both Ayame and Ruri dress in kimono, with Ayame wearing different variations for her True Ending and Subjugation costumes, Honglan usually dresses in qipao, and both Jiho and Soonie dress in hanbok (stylized in Jiho's case) for their normal attires.
  • Evil Doppelgänger: In the form of the aptly-named Evil Souls. Said Souls are Alternate Timeline versions of themselves from doomed futures that usually centered around the state of the Savior within said timelines:
    • He was never summoned to Eden (Jacqueline, Vivienne, Ayame, and Adrianne),
    • He inadvertently killed another Soul (Aira), or
    • He was killed while on duty (Catherine).
  • Hero-Worshipper: Towards the Savior. It's been noted to be so prevalent in the launch version's early chapters that the developers decided to rewrite them and tone it down a bit following the February 9 update.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: With every "death" they experience, they have the chance to lose part of their memories, alongside some of their powers, once they wake up again. This wouldn't have been a problem if the Gate incidents were never a thing in the first place. They were also subjected to this trope once they reawakened following the apocalypse and humanity's departure and (assumed) extinction. Most of them all forgot their bad experiences under the Dominas's control and began living their new lives in Eden, while others have fragments of their past here and there, influencing their way of life moving forward.
    • The main function of the Tower of Origin is to help them regain memories of their time with the Dominas, as well as their lives before they were given form and were still dwelling within their Artifacts.
  • Manchurian Agent: In Chapter 7, the Angel and Demon Souls are revealed to be subjected to this trope. They all have the innate disposition for the incitement of the Apocalypse, and they are "activated" when "the Fifth Trumpet sounds", said Fifth Trumpet being the strongest Soul in existence: the newly-reawakened Soul of the End Apollyon.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Them pursuing the Savior's affection may appear as this, seeing as they are practically older than him by at least centuries and can live forever, while he's... just a human, discounting his powers as a Soul Master.
  • Moe Anthropomorphism: Of mythological, historical, and even fictional items of power and prestige, with a tinge of Historical Domain Superperson if said artifact had a notable person/character associated with it. According to Word of God, this approach was taken so that they can create distinct characters that don't rely too much on basing characteristics from integral figures like Fate/Grand Order does.
  • One-Gender Race: Subverted. The Souls are predominantly female in form due to their origins rooting from the "first" Soul that humans gave physical form to, named Eve. The male Souls' origin, Adam, was The Unfavorite and as such wasn't used as a template for later powerful Souls as much as Eve was, giving justification as to why there aren't any playable male Souls in the game.
  • Pure Magic Being: The Souls' bodies are made of Mana surrounding a crystal core that houses the ANIMA that was extracted from their Artifacts, usually given to them by humanity if they come from a particularly powerful one. In one of Eve's outing topics, she tells the Savior that because they're made of Mana, they can willingly take off some of their body parts, like Angel Souls with their wings if said wings hinder stuff like sleeping. And as said by her as well, The Earth overflowing with Mana due to humanity's actions is also the reason why ANIMA from weaker and less well-known Artifacts can obtain their own bodies like the various civilian NPCs you meet.
  • Really 700 Years Old: A few Souls have commented on their ages, like Yuria and Rebecca talking about their ages being in the thousands in one Main Story episode and Jiho mentioning that she had never broken a dalgona piece in a thousand years until it happened in her Bad Ending. There are also some Souls that are cited to be "relatively younger" than their peers, like Chloe and Rose, but they may theoretically still be older than the Savior significantly.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Souls do not age, so they can technically live forever. It's only until they're killed in some way do they "die", in the sense that they fall into a deep sleep for an indeterminate amount of time, and when they wake up, they end up losing some of their memories due to said comatose period. This wouldn't be a problem if the Gate incidents never afflicted Eden in the first place. Despite this, they can actually die if the Soul Stone that houses their very being is destroyed one way or another, like in Velanna's Normal Ending where she gets Mephi to fire her Spear of the Ark in max power at her as she threatened to take the Savior's life, or in Eileen's backstory where her entire family was killed off by a highly-volatile magic crystal named the Void Crystal.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: In one of her Town dialogues, Queen Yuria brings up the probable reason why the Souls took on humanoid bodies and try to imitate human life despite being exploited and maltreated by the Homo Dominas in their heyday: she believes it's because the Souls inherently want to understand the human condition, their emotions, their societal norms, etc., and that the Laser-Guided Amnesia they ended up getting as they awakened in the post-apocalyptic Earth helps them move forward without their past emotional baggage that was a result of humanity's atrocities towards them.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: At least before the Gate incidents. Due to their immortal lives, some Souls become jaded and apathetic towards their day-to-day lives, so much so that they can just go on a Bad Mood Retreat and sleep hundreds of years away just to get away from the monotonous lifestyle. Prim, in particular, has her For Happiness goal motivated by her experience with a friend of hers who suffered from this trope. Velanna also suffers from this trope and her Love Story revolves around said apathy.

The Main Two

    The Savior
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/user_1024_9.png
"Despite having fallen into a strange world, I somehow felt confident. Now, I can… I can save them."
The Player Character. A young man pulled away from his "world" of modern-day Earth to Eden, Earth of the distant future. Following his summoning, Mephistopheles injects into him nanomachines that gives him the abilities of a Soul Master. With said power, he is tasked with helping the Souls regain the memories of their past and discover the Artifacts they were born out of.
  • Accidental Pervert: Subjected to this in Xiaolian's Love Story. After staying the night in her house, he was walking to the bathroom to wash his face, until he saw Xiaolian changing out of her pajamas inside said room. Cue ensuing chaos as she scrambles to change to her clothes while closing the door on him.
  • But Thou Must!:
    • If ever you choose to "reject the request to save the Souls" at the very start of the game, Mephistopheles will ignore this rejection and proceed with the contract preparation anyways.
    • Rejecting Mica's/Seeha's request for you to be their Producer in both their Love Stories will just make them pester you into accepting the offer the second time around.
  • Chick Magnet: Has garnered the romantic attention of quite a few Souls, even outside of their Love Stories. For instance, Jade and Miriam become interested in him following the events of Chapter 2, Yuria showing romantic interest in him during Everschool!, and Lute has her Early-Bird Cameo dedicated to her crushing over him in the February 2023 event Pure Love Valentine's and the September 2023 event Run, Rabbit! Go On a Midnight Run!.
  • The Chosen One: The human prophesized to bring salvation to Eden, by guiding the Souls to their Artifacts of origin and granting them great power in the process.
  • Combined Energy Attack: In Main Story Chapter 6, while he and his party battle against the overpowering Dark Knight Adam, he temporarily gains access to one of the Dominion System's more advanced abilities: borrowing Mana from the Souls a Soul Master is allied to or has a contract with to empower said Soul Master. This gives him so much power that he, a mere "ancient" human who's usually in a supporting role, manages to lock blades with Adam and hold his relentless assault off for a while. The problem though is that his low authorization level over accessing Dominion makes this ability a Dangerous Forbidden Technique for him, potentially giving him sensory overload and even frying his brain if he uses it either excessively or for too long.
  • Demoted to Extra: In the first two events. In Chloe's Strange Dream, he's only mentioned in a line or two while Chloe takes the lead, and in Pure Love Valentine's, he's more or less unrelated to the story outside of being the guy a lot of Souls want to give chocolates to. Averted starting from Spring Blooming in Your Heart onwards, where he's the POV character once again.
  • Depending on the Writer: Though his character remains pretty consistent between Love Stories, there are times when an aspect of him is found within a Love Story that doesn't appear in others, like him being unassumingly Money Dumb in Manon's.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": He's only referred to in-game as either "Savior" or "Lord (of Arkenine)". He does get referred to by other names though, like Producer (Mica and Seeha) and Cutie (Violette).
    • Lampshaded in Jacqueline's Tower of Origin: he realizes he's never given anyone his real name when Jacqueline asks what to call him when he asked her to be more cordial with him. He considered letting Jacq call him by his real name, but ultimately decides on having her just call him Savior since he's gotten used to being referred to as such by now.
    • Lampshaded again in one of Chloe's Town dialogues, asking him if his real name isn't five letters long so that she can actually remember it.
    • Lampshaded yet again in Edith's Love Story, where he does give her a name during their first meeting, but the game doesn't really tell the player if it's a specific name or the name they entered, which isn't helped by Edith (going by "Golden Eyes" at the time) calling him "Mr. Kindness" instead of an actual name.
  • Featureless Protagonist: For a gacha game protagonist, it's surprisingly averted, if the above portrait of him is anything to go by. Nonetheless, some Love Story CGs do seem to try their best to obscure his face or keep it out of frame when he's physically present in them, all to retain the self-insert role of his character.
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: The source of much of his angst in the early parts of the story. He feels he is so out of place in the far-flung future and, as such, doubts he has what it takes to both be the Lord of a city and a world-saving hero. He finds comfort in finding things that are familiar to him and his time period, like seeing phones and learning that schools still exist.
  • Foil: The Savior is essentially the anti-thesis of the "Ruler of Humans" Kayrin:
    • They're both human Soul Masters that lead both sides of the war: The Savior fights for the Souls, Kayrin fights for the Dominas.
    • The Savior is just a modern human summoned to the age of Souls and given nanomachines to obtain Soul Mastery, while Kayrin is a superhuman of the future whose Soul Mastery is more or less a second nature to her.
    • Even down to their color palette: the Savior (and by extension, Mephistopheles and Yuria) has black/brown hair and primarily wears white and blue garments, while Kayrin has white hair and wears black and red garments.
  • Good Wears White: Follows the same color scheme as Mephistopheles and Queen Yuria: primarily white outfit with black underneath and gold linings. As with the both of them, he is very certainly on the good guys' side.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: Averted. Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep" is in effect, and the player's entered name at the beginning of the game is treated more as an account username.
  • The Hero: The prophesized hero of Eden.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: His main weapon is a cane, but he can use it as a sword like when he fights against monsters in Town or in his Blade Lock moment with the Dark Knight in Chapter 6. The narrative does often mention him bringing along an actual sword with him, like when he knighted Linzy to forge their mutual Undying Loyalty in the ending of her Tower of Origin story, but his official render doesn't really show it strapped to his waist like the game sometimes says.
  • Heroic BSoD: After two chapters of admiration and successful campaigns, he is subjected to a brief but gut-wrenching dose of this in Chapter 3, following Linzy's Heroic Sacrifice to stop Jacqueline from destroying the Forgotten Ruins. She gets better (somewhat), but it's a lesson nonetheless..
  • Heroic Mime: He's a self-insert Player Character, so it's a given. He never really "talks" outside of dialogue options, but that's only what the players see. Some of his First-Person Perspective thoughts are implied to be actual replies to other characters, who all respond appropriately.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He heroically dies in the Saint of Sorrow's timeline, protecting the Souls from the onslaught of the Dominas until he perished in front of Catherine, prompting the latter to fall into despair and let the voices plaguing her to dictate her every move going forward.
  • Hidden Depths: When talking to Jiho whenever she visits the Town, she may sometimes comment on him trying to learn how to play the daegeum flute, leaving him alone once she realizes he's very focused on learning it.
  • Implied Love Interest: As far as the main canon is concerned, he's this to Queen Yuria.
    • During the events of Everschool, he seems to feel giddy at the idea of him and "student council president" Yuria becoming a romantic pair.
    • Yuria's Love Story is currently the only Love Story to be set in a Flash Forward to the end of the main story, with him and her already being an Official Couple compared to all other Souls that start seeing him in a romantic light during their Love Stories.
  • Instant Expert: He notes being able to utter words so unfamiliar to him like they were "as familiar as his own name" once he obtains the powers of the Soul Master, showing the first ability given to him by it through summoning Souls to immediate combat. Subverted as it's also shown he isn't an instant expert in other things outside of said ability like ruling a city and the ways of the sword.
  • Last of His Kind: As far as he's aware, he's the only human left on Earth/Eden. According to the Souls, humanity wiped themselves out long before the events of the game. Even if they were alive today, he'd be considered the only human who's "pure of heart" left since most of humanity had become warmongering subjugators in the future.
    • He could even be considered the last "pure" human left, discounting the injection of nanomachines needed for him to use his ability in the Prologue.
    • This gets turned on its head as Chapter 5 reveals the existence of fellow human and Soul Master Kayrin, the so-called "King of Humans", who plans to eradicate the Souls in order to reclaim Earth for the humans in the Ark Camael, whose own souls have been left in disarray due to spending centuries living in space, turning the whole war into a "Defends Against Own Kind" dilemma for him.
  • Magically-Binding Contract: Having the powers of Soul Ministry, he has the power to enter into a mutually-agreed contract with a Soul, giving her access to greater power and the chance to discover the Artifact she was born out of. So far, the notable Souls that the Savior has entered a contract with canonically are: Mephistopheles, Miriam, and Talia.
    • In Chapter 7, he's all but forced to form a mutual contract with Big Bad and fellow Soul Master Kayrin in order to combat the threat of Apollyon destroying the very dimension they live in. With this contract, the two can communicate and report any sensory (visual and auditory) information with each other through the Dominion system, but in return, they cannot attack or betray each other until either Apollyon is destroyed or she becomes bound to either one of them. Whether or not the terms of this contract also applies to the two's contracted Souls towards each other is left vague.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: Outside of his powers as a Soul Master, he's not much of a magical sleuth as he appears to be. When you control him during dungeon explorations or when exploring the Town, his basic attack animations consist of him swinging his cane around like a sword, then he's shown doing swordsmanship training with Chloe at the start of Chapter 2, and his defining moment in Chapter 6 depicts him using his cane like a sword while clashing with the Dark Knight's One-Handed Zweihänder.
  • Magnetic Hero: Has a sort of charm that makes some Souls become interested in forming a contract with him. Hearing Mephi's feelings with the whole contract thing also help with the pull he has on them, as Miriam showed in Chapter 2.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Him pursuing a Soul's affection may appear as this, seeing as these girls are practically older than him by at least centuries and can live forever, while he's... just a human, discounting his powers as a Soul Master.
  • Messianic Archetype: Has shades of this minus the self-sacrificing parts, at least not yet. He is the "Savior" that will lead the Souls to salvation and save them from the evil blighting their once-peaceful world. All their faith is placed on him succeeding, and is subsequently treated with reverence and respect. The self-sacrificing part may sometimes spring up within the bond stories though:
  • Nice Guy: It's actually why he can use the powers of the Soul Master in the first place: The Savior must be "pure of heart" in order to obtain the power needed to call upon the Souls.
  • Non-Entity General: Zigzagged in the sense that he does have a portrait and 3D model compared to some of his other self-insert gacha MC contemporaries and can fight in some capacity, but he does not participate in battle gameplay-wise, ignoring him being controllable in exploration stages, only leveling, equipping, and arranging Soul formations before combat and timing their active skills during it. Story-wise, he participates in combat sometimes but he's usually not in the frontlines due to the sheer importance of his role in saving the world and his fragility as a mortal human being.
  • Ordinary High-School Student: Considered himself one before getting summoned to Eden and getting the powers of a Soul Master. He notes being a pretty average boy back in his time period. This aspect of him is somewhat explored in the April 2023 event Everschool!.
  • A Protagonist Shall Lead Them: Especially true if you keep him around as your controllable character in dungeons or Town.
  • Reincarnation Romance: Ayame's Love Story reveals that he's the reincarnation of Ayame's long-lost lover, although he cannot remember his past life. Depending on your choices, he can choose to reobtain his memories and pursue or reject said memories and reject Ayame, or reject said memories but opt to love her in your current life instead, choosing to start your relationship anew.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Gets put in as the Lord of the Solrey Kingdom's makeshift capital Arkenine, and he's very active in protecting his territory as much as he's active in the effort to save Eden.
  • Significant Birth Date: His birthday is revealed to be September 1, the significance of which lies in Korean wordplay: The number 9 translates to "gu" and the number 1 sounds like "won". What's the Korean translation for "Savior"? It's "guwonja".
  • Summon Magic: His first ability "Summon Soul" allows him to summon any Soul contracted under him at any time. In gameplay, it's not reflected in the Battlefronts, but in other modes like the dungeons and the Dimensional Labyrinth, he's allowed to switch out any incapacitated Soul in his current party for someone else in his roster, albeit only allowed outside of battles.
  • Toy Transmutation: In regards to Garnet's Love Story:
    • Played straight in her Bad Ending. She ends up killing him out of blind anger towards him rejecting her feelings, then stuffing his soul into one of her stuffed animals.
    • Subverted in the True Ending. After a brief conversation with Garnet affirming their Relationship Upgrade and the Savior's desire to "become a Carrot" so that he could live forever with her, it cuts to a timeskip after the Savior finally saves Eden from the Gates. At first, Garnet is shown hugging a different stuffed toy, talking to it and calling it "Savior", leading the player to think he really did die and turned into said toy... until the actual Savior enters the scene and invites Garnet, who was actually just talking to a toy she named after him, to an outdoor date.
  • Trapped in Another World: Whisked away from his "world" of the modern day to Eden, an evidently otherworldly Earth in the far future where humanity has disappeared and the land is now ruled by the Souls.
  • We Are as Mayflies: His mortality as a human being compared to the infinite lifespan of the Souls is often a point of discussion with some Souls. One example is Linzy hoping that he'll still remember her even after he grows old.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: His power as a Soul Master has been proven to be easily abused judging from the sins of humanity that kept subjugating the Souls. He also gets appointed by Yuria to become the lord of Arkenine so that he can learn from this trope, by developing camaraderie and compassion within him, in order to be the Messianic Archetype that the Souls have been waiting for.
  • Workaholic: Takes on this personality once he becomes a more competent Lord for Arkenine. Especially noted in Manon's Love Story is him being much more hands-on in the Town's development than he should, even unassumingly spending much of the budget on floor tiles and town decor, then placing them down one by one by himself.
    • Played for Laughs by the end of the summer event Endless Summer. Since Vivienne's magical "summer getaway" traps those who enter until they've truly enjoyed their time at the beach, to the point that the environment itself makes duplicates of them to goad any "liars" into taking a break, everyone assumed they'd need to get the "justice-powered" warrior Adrianne to chill out in order to leave. It's only after they had a (playful) scuffle with her and her two duplicates that they realized that the Savior himself was the actual liar by way of his own duplicate appearing out of nowhere, decked out in a beach hat, a Hawaiian shirt, a lei around his neck, some diving gear, a duck innertube, and a watermelon hanging behind him. After a bit of reprimanding from the other Souls, he decides to have everyone help him enjoy their whole vacation more genuinely.
    • He does have his limits though, as seen in the Christmas event A Cozy Kumawreaths. When a sledding-addicted monster challenges him, Garnet, Dora, and Catherine to a race, he revs himself up to win by thinking of the ramifications of him losing to the monster: an Arkenine full of snow worsened by the monster's ice-powered havoc onto the city, with him fearing that his cozy winter days would be wasted on getting the city back on track as well as ensuring that the citizens don't contract long-lasting illnesses from the excessively cold weather, not to mention the costs that would have to be spent for the above.

    Queen Yuria

Yuria in her royal attire
Yuria in her battle attire
Rarity: Epic -> Origin+5
Title: Eternal Sun
Affiliation: Kingdom of Solrey
Race: Angel
Height: 163cm
Birthday: 11/22
Hobbies: Walks, gardening
Specialty: Eating spicy food
Likes: Smiling Souls
Dislikes: Loss of innocent lives
Voiced by: Gyumi Gwak (Korean), ??? (Japanese)
The Queen of the Kingdom of Solrey. She was once considered the strongest Soul in Eden, up until the forbidden summoning ritual she did with Mephistopheles to summon the Savior sapped her of almost all her power.
  • 10-Minute Retirement: Right after a celebration stopping the Gates in her Love Story, she announces her retirement and leaves things to her successor for a quiet civilian life accompanied by the Savior. Unfortunately, the Crown of the Sun she wore maintains Solrey's environment with her mana, and only her mana, so putting aside two other options with vague chances of success, Yuria is left with little choice but to retake the throne to save her kingdom. This is averted only in her Normal Ending, where she lives with the Savior permanently in his world; the Bad Ending negatively plays it straight where she rules unhappily and alone; and played straight positively in the True Ending, where she rules alongside the Savior with a new system developed to replace the Crown and a proper retirement after.
  • Badass Pacifist: Her combat style is purely a White Mage's: she has no attacks whatsoever, as her gimmick revolves around frequently healing and buffing her allies. Despite marching into battle with a sword, she spills no blood, leading and supporting her team just as she's always done back when she was depowered. In one of her Outing topics though, she confesses that it's actually more due to her believing that something "dark" inside her may really come out if she relishes in battle a bit too much.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Has a soft spot for Mephi, going out of her way to spoil her whenever she can.
  • De-power: Her fighting power was significantly reduced following her sacrificing a great portion of it, alongside some of Mephistopheles's early memories, to summon the Savior from a distant past to the "present". She more or less is just a normal, yet still capable, queen now.
  • Foreshadowing: Set up in Chapter 3 is the concept of Yuria's "true self", and the revelation that Dr. Faust tells to the Savior that he was summoned to primarily suppress Yuria. Couple that with an attentive reading of Faust's message in the Forbidden Ruins and a look at this pre-release developer interview, and you're given a significant hint towards said true identity.
The Message of Faust: "Humanity was too greedy to remain on Earth. Their sins will never be forgiven... You, Savior, were summoned to suppress the power of disaster harbored by Apollyon. Open your eyes now."
  • Flash Forward: Unlike other Love Stories taking place in the present, Yuria's Love Story happens after our heroes have stopped the root cause behind the Gates and brought lasting peace to Eden.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: She wields a sword in both her battle gear and as Apollyon. The former case has her wield a sword that resembles Solrey's coat of arms, though she doesn't actually use it to attack enemies, but as a conduit for her supportive abilities.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Mephistopheles. She indulges her in every chance she gets and can be considered her closest confidant. As a bonus, there's tinges of Ho Yay sprinkled in like in the Valentine's event story, and an early version of the intro sequence had a much less subtle take on it.
  • Identity Amnesia: In Chapter 5, she is revealed by Kayrin to be the Soul that ruined Earth, Apollyon, though Yuria expresses confusion upon hearing the name.
  • Implied Love Interest: As far as the main canon is concerned, she's this to the Savior, due to her role as the Main Story's Deuteragonist.
    • During the events of Everschool, the dream version of her seems to feel giddy at the idea of her and the "new transfer student" becoming a thing. Then, at the last scene of the event story, she reveals (to the audience) that she basically heard him talking in his sleep being all excited about them becoming a couple, and that she doesn't seem to oppose such an idea happening in real life herself.
    • She is currently the only Epic Soul whose Love Story starts off in a Flash Forward to the Main Story's ending with her and the Savior already being an Official Couple, compared to the others who only start having romantic implications near the end of their stories.
  • Informed Attribute: Her apparently being the strongest Soul in Eden. Outside of some mentions by her subjects, she hasn't really displayed this great power of hers in some shape or form, like flashbacks to her hey-day.
    • It's averted in a rather odd way during the mini-event "Waving Forest of Monsters"; there is a very small chance of you summoning Yuria as a helper Soul against the wave of monsters, and if summoned, she can curbstomp most of the monsters easily (despite her De-power), which helps significantly in racking up points for the final reward. It should be noted however that, as strange as this may sound, this power is only accessible to the NPC Yuria, as her separate playable self has similar attack power as the Savior and the other Souls.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: The central plot of her Love Story is that everyone—especially the Savior—wants their queen to take an overdue break after such a long reign dedicating herself to the people. However, the Crown of the Sun is an artifact worn by Solrey's ruler that keeps Solrey protected from blight, but is only able to work with Yuria. How the retired queen solves the problem hinges on the Savior's feelings for her:
  • Lonely at the Top: It's seen in her Love Story that people high and low address her formally. The Savior contrasts how Souls are comfortable around him to Yuria being treated with too much respect that she feels alone as a result.
  • Modest Royalty: She may be a very respected queen, but she can be just as quirky as the other Souls in her service, just as much as she's in touch with her subjects. She dotes on Mephi a lot, gets riled up over Mica and Seeha being victims of a reality talent show's Executive Meddling, likes eating spicy food so much that she wants her subjects to know that it isn't that disrespectful to give her "commoner food" to eat, and she immediately dismissed a routine meeting after learning about the old tradition of "telling lies" on April 1st in order to mitigate the Savior's homesickness a bit.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She gets much skimpier wear in her battle attire and as Apollyon, especially when compared to her more conservative royal attire. The former has her wear a mostly-white leotard with a cleavage window that has her bust in clear view and a thin piece of slightly-transparent fabric that covers the groin area, complete with a Showgirl Skirt that shows off her legs.
  • Mysterious Waif: Her "true self" may very well be at the crux of The Prophecy having a Prophecy Twist itself. She's afraid of people finding out about it for unknown reasons and, as such, keeps it under very tight wraps.
  • Promoted to Playable: After 10 months of being an NPC since launch, she finally got to be an obtainable character following the October 19, 2023 update.
  • Queen Incognito: Her third Love Story reveals she went to cafes sometimes out of people's sight, if only to try enjoying a civilian life without getting mobbed by her own citizens.
  • Really 700 Years Old: She is one of the oldest Souls in existence, according to her and Rebecca. If we treat any text in the April 2023 event Everschool a bit seriously, she may at least be 2000 years old.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Very active in the political space, and would've still been on the battlefield too if not for the Equivalent Exchange she had to pay to summon the Savior.
  • Supreme Chef: Though cooking for the first time, she serves spicy dishes for the Savior and friends in her second Love Story. The girls were apprehensive until the Savior took the first dive, ending with everyone agreeing it's great. Her Normal Ending has her learning more dishes since then, feeling accomplished ever since that dinner.
  • White Mage: As an obtainable character, she is strictly a support unit: she only heals and supports her allies, and is currently the only Soul to not have any semblance of an attack or damaging skill in her overall skillset. What's supposed to be her normal attacks are made into regular party-wide heals, her sub skills have her provide shields, speed buffs, and additional type-advantage damage for the entire team, her Main Skill lets her buff an ally's attack, and her Ultimate heals the whole party while decreasing incoming damage for a certain duration.

Allies

    Amy Faust
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/npc_amy_512_4.png
Voiced by: ??? (Korean)
The only survivor of the solar flare incident that crippled the Ark Metatron's life-support systems and killed almost all humans onboard. She had a short-lived friendship with Mephistopheles until she eventually passed away.
  • All in the Manual: Much of her story can be read in the pre-release webcomic. She's only really seen in-game in one Main Story episode, one of Mephistopheles's Love Story episodes, and one of Mephi's Tower of Origin episodes.
  • Posthumous Character: Within the context of the game. The webcomic depicts her alive, until she dies in the very chapter that introduced her.

    Dr. Faust
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/npc_drfaust_512.png
Voiced by: ??? (Korean)
The scientist responsible for creating the nine arks that were supposed to save humanity from extinction, as well as created the AI Mephistopheles to operate the first ark and, alternatively, to seek the Savior should her first directive fail. Seems to know a lot more about the Savior's true calling in Eden.
  • Given Name Reveal: Her full name is revealed after the Demon Soul Eve was released on January 11, 2024, as the latter was her assistant at her workshop. Whenever Eve talks about her, she always refers to her by her first name "Angelica", which makes Faust's full name "Dr. Angelica Faust".
  • Posthumous Character: She's only shown as a hologram within the Ark and the Forgotten Ruins. Makes sense given that she was alive more than 700 years ago, and that humanity has already died out.
  • Secret-Keeper: Knows more about the Savior's true purpose, with her hologram mentioning that he's actually supposed to suppress Yuria, but she wouldn't say anything more than that.

The Dominas

    Kayrin Faust
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/npc_kayrin_512.png
"Think very carefully on whose side to take, "Savior". Are you "human"? Shouldn't you be "saving" the souls of "humans"?"
The "Ruler of Humans" who desires to rid the Earth of the Souls and use their essence to help humanity develop adaptations in order to recolonize Earth for themselves. She also has the same Soul Master ability as the Savior albeit she has a greater control over it due to experience, which she uses to order Souls into doing her bidding. Seems to have a great disdain towards the Souls.
  • Back from the Dead: As she was called to Eden with the full power of the Cave of Death's core, the Crystal of Thanatos, and due to her mortality as a human, it can be assumed that she had died once and was revived just for this moment. Chapter 7 confirms this, by way of Lilith reminding her that her soul had been "shattered once" and that she was barely revived by said core due to her soul's fragmented nature, warning her that if she pushes herself too hard, her soul really will be irreversibly destroyed.
  • Big Bad: Introduced in Chapter 5, she's the main antagonist of the main storyspoiler , who ultimately succeeds in kidnapping Yuria by the end of the same chapter that introduces her.
  • Fantastic Racism: She has no love for any Soul, even the Dark Knight and Lilith, seeing them as nothing more than tool that usurped the planet that humanity once called Earth, and the one Soul she has anything other than disrespect for is Velanna, who is merely useful as a living weapon against her own kind.
  • Foil: Kayrin is essentially the anti-thesis of the Savior:
    • They're both human Soul Masters that lead both sides of the war: The Savior fights for the Souls, Kayrin fights for the Dominas.
    • The Savior is just a modern human summoned to the age of Souls and given nanomachines to obtain Soul Mastery, while Kayrin is a superhuman from the future whose Soul Mastery is more or less a second nature to her.
    • Even down to their color palette: the Savior (and by extension, Mephistopheles and Yuria) has black/brown hair and primarily wears white and blue garments, while Kayrin has white hair and wears black and red garments.
  • Humanity Is Superior: She's all for humanity taking back the Earth from the pests known as Souls, and is of the opinion that since the Savior is human, he should be helping his fellow humans as well. In Chapter 7, she even considers letting him live despite his impulsive actions in the previous chapter being the reason why the world is now in danger of a second Apocalypse, all because he's a human.
  • Magically-Binding Contract: Having the powers of Soul Ministry, she has the power to enter into a mutually-agreed contract with a Soul, giving them access to greater power and the chance to discover the Artifact they were born out of. So far, the notable Souls that Kayrin has entered a contract with canonically are: The Dark Knight/Adam, Lilith, Aira, Vivenne (at least until her triple betrayal moment in Chapter 6), and Velanna.
    • In Chapter 7, she's all but forced to form a mutual contract with the Savior, The Hero and fellow Soul Master, in order to combat the threat of Apollyon destroying the very dimension they live in.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: She isn't just fighting as the ruler of the Dominas, but also because her sister, Amy, got killed on the Ark Metatron when its life support was damaged in a solar storm. Kayrin blames Mephistopheles for it, however accidental it was.

    Lilith
The Ark Operator of the ninth Ark "Chamuel". She serves Kayrin and desires the return of humanity as much as she does.

    The Dark Knight

"There you are, false master."
Voiced by: ??? (Korean)
An ominous Humanlike Soul clad in dark armor who seems to have a grudge towards the "fake master" that is the Savior. It's then later revealed that he is Adam, the very first Soul that Dr. Faust gave form to who would later be discarded due to humanity becoming infatuated with the feminine-formed Soul Eve.
  • Biblical Motifs: He is Adam, the very first Soul that humanity gave form to, much like how the biblical Adam is the very first human that God created. He's also paired with a woman named Eve, though their relationship was more akin to being siblings according to Eve herself.
  • Black Knight: Named as such. He's decked out in black 24-Hour Armor with bright red lines and spikes, despises his own kind, their emotions, and the Savior, and serves as The Dragon to Kayrin Faust.
  • The Dragon: To Kayrin. He follows her every word as they share the same despise towards the Souls.
  • The Unfavorite: Based on how Eve described him, as Adam, in her Evertalk messages, he was basically treated like a bastard child despite him being the very first Soul to be given form, with the Dominas keeping him a secret from the world at large while the second-born, Eve herself, was showered with reverence and attention, all due to her mysterious inherent power to make beings with high intellect fawn over her.

The second Soul that Dr. Faust gave form, officially considered the only Primal Soul in existence, and her closest assistant at her workshop. She has the mysterious power to make any intellectual being fall for her and lose their sense of self trying to satisfy her. She would later fall out of favor though, as she committed a sin that would get her cursed and locked away in a prison called the Abyss, underneath what is now the Megalopolis Aurelia.
  • Biblical Motifs: She is Eve, the second Soul that humanity gave form to, much like how the biblical Eve is the very second human that God created, following Adam. She also bears the "original sin" of trying to create one of her own kind out of curiosity, like how the biblical Eve bears the "original sin" of giving into temptation and eating the Forbidden Fruit of Good and Evil, while also urging Adam to do so as well.
  • Charm Person: She has the power to charm those around her to the point where they become blind with love for her. Even significantly powerful Souls like Yuria and Mephi can't resist the charm curse that makes them want to dote on her. This is expressed in-game with her Ultimate Skill "Temptation and Punishment". If she isn't the Soul with the highest Attack stat in battle, this Ultimate Skill makes it so that she can inflict Charm on the enemy's own Soul with the highest Attack while also allowing them to use their Main Skill within that period, a perk that Charm normally doesn't come with. When used properly, she can get them to inflict that Main Skill on their own allies instead, potentially saving her allies from a powerful attack.
  • Deity of Mortal Creation: The Eve Faith, the predominant monotheistic religion in Eden, is based around the notion of her being the first Soul to descend unto Eden and the one that gave life to all Souls. This is all due to the fact that the Souls don't really remember their time with humans and that the majority of Souls living in Eden today were only born due to the overabundance of Mana in the world. They don't know that their "goddess" was basically just like them, that she was created, and subsequently corrupted, by humans, and that she's actually imprisoned underneath the oceans below the Floating Continent of Megalopolis Aurelia.
  • Fallen Angel: Her motif as a Demon Soul. As remnants of her once being an Angel Soul, she has big feathered wings and a halo above her head unlike her fellow Demon Souls, both having turned black and having three spikes following her corruption.
  • Forbidden Fruit: Despite her Artifact being Mesopotamian in origin, her design and personality have strong leanings towards this trope in the literal sense, to the point where one would assume this is the Artifact that she was modeled after upon first seeing her. She loves eating fruit, she has an apple that can transform into her staff, has a character theme literally named "Forbidden Fruit", and her sin was that she tried to create one of her own kind out of curiosity, despite humans seeing such an action as taboo. Turns out said "original sin" was just an excuse that humanity used to take Eve away from Faust and force the latter to create more Souls just like her, and that her actual sin is that her power to beguile was the very cause of the Soul War that led humanity to near extinction by the hands of Apollyon.
  • If I Can't Have You…: Humanity wanting "their own Eves" when Faust refused to create more Souls caused them to lash out and corrupt Eve so that no human could ever have her.
  • Leitmotif: Forbidden Fruit.
  • Morality Chain: In the Main Story, she became part of Apollyon's Four Knights of the Apocalypse, in charge of the throne of Famine, as she got to her first. Her Love Story though is set in an Alternate Timeline where she was saved by the Savior from her imprisonment in the Abyss before the whole thing with Apollyon ever went down. In this timeline, the Savior becomes this to her as his relentless efforts to reach out to her had wormed its way into her jaded heart despite her efforts to push him, and subsequently those affiliated with him, away out of her fear that she'll end up corrupting the supposed Savior of Eden, for better or worse. This may either end up hurting her (Bad Ending) or helping her regain hope, even if a little (Normal and True Endings).
  • Ms. Exposition: Both her Love Story and Evertalk messages contain massive lore dumps dealing with: humanity's first dealings with the Souls, details on Dr. Faust and the elusive "Adam", how humanity overloaded the planet with Mana to the point that Artifacts with weaker ANIMA can now have physical forms in the present day (explaining the NPCs' existence), and how humanity caused their own downfall, among other things...
  • Racial Transformation: Much like Otoha before her, the once-Angel Soul Eve was subjected to this trope as well. Due to her committing her "original sin", humanity placed a curse upon her, turning her into a Demon Soul, and subsequently locked her away in an underground dungeon as punishment. Said "curse" was her being corrupted by the very humans that said they "love" her, all to force Faust into creating more Souls much like the Eve they all desire to covet.
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse: Her inherent power makes it so that any intelligent being that lay their eyes on her would be completely head over heels for her, turning their brain into figurative mush while she's in view. She considers this power a curse since she cannot create any sort of meaningful relationship due to it, whether it be human or Soul. The only ones who could seemingly resist her power are Dr. Faust and the Savior, provided you guide the latter's decisions to attain either the Normal or True Endings, where he manages to resist the temptations enough to form a meaningful connection with her.

Other

    Apollyon (SPOILER WARNING)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ms05_apollyon.jpg
"I'm Apollyon, the one who brings the End. Long time ago, I brought an evitable death to this land... but it looks like my mission is not over yet."
The uncontrollable "Soul of the Apocalypse" that almost decimated humanity and forced them to flee to space after she was summoned by them.

For more information on her other identity, see Yuria's entry above.

  • Apocalypse How: As stated by Kayrin in Chapter 7, her power over dimensional annihilation gives her the capability of enacting a Class X-4 Apocalypse in a process that the Dominas called the "Apocalypse Protocol", which follows most of the events of the Book of Revelation post-sounding of the Fifth Trumpet. Humanity sacrificed a lot in order for it to be impeded enough for her to only inflict destruction on the Earth as they flee to space in Faust's nine Arks, but she returns in full force after Chapter 6, with no "leash" strong enough to bind her to a Soul Master...
  • Apocalypse Maiden: She is Yuria's true identity, sealed away and forgotten by her up until Kayrin Faust brought her to the Tower of Origin in order to force her to become Apollyon and use her domain over destruction to kill all Souls, including Apollyon herself, and restart human civilization on Earth. It was only after the Savior broke Kayrin's "leash" on her (under Vivienne's advice) did she become free enough to enact her own Apocalypse unto the world once again, becoming the new Big Bad after Chapter 6.
  • Colony Drop: Her first order of business upon fully reawakening was to drop Wormwood onto the earth to kickstart the Apocalypse Protocol, which was subsequently stopped by Mephistopheles using the Metatron to collide headfirst into the meteor, reducing it to small fragments at the cost of Mephi's life and the Metatron's destruction.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: As the Soul of the Fifth Trumpet, she seeks the destruction of everything, even the universe she's in.

    The Faceless
A mysterious malevolent deity that manipulated Catherine into becoming their heretical worshiper in another timeline.
  • The Faceless: If their name wasn't already obvious. They currently only appear once in the overall narrative, and it's during the "Saint of Sorrow" episode as a cacophony of voices plaguing Catherine mentally when she was at her lowest.
