     Tropes Applying To Multiple Characters
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Done with most of the characters, since Doki Doki Switcheroo is meant to change both the gender and personalities of the characters:
    • MC is changed from being a Blank Slate to being a tomboyish delinquent gamer.
    • Satori is changed from ditzy and airheaded to more level-headed and reasonable. He also has bipolar disorder, instead of clinical depression.
    • Natsuko is changed from a Tsundere to being much more flirtatious and straightforward in his attraction to MC.
    • Yuuri isn't changed that much personality-wise, but the knife obsession is replaced with pyromaniac tendencies.
    • Mateo is changed from being sweet and kindhearted, instead becoming incredibly rude and arrogant towards MC.
  • Aerith and Bob: Like in original, the NPCs have genuine Japanese names, then one with a European name written as if it were in Romaji (Mateo; the Italian spelling is Matteo).
  • Ate It All: When Natsuko brings cookies to the club on the third day, Satori and MC immediately eat them all.
  • Dark Secret: Almost every character has one. Satori has had bipolar disorder since childhood, Yuuri has pyromaniac tendencies, Natsuko is being abused by his mother.
  • Driven to Suicide: Mateo kills himself at the end of Act 1, but in a subversion, this turns out to be part of a Xanatos Gambit to give himself a happy ending later. Yuuri does this genuinely at the end of Act 2.
  • Gender Flip: All of the main girls are now boys in this version, and the MC is now a girl.
  • Invisible Parents: Nobody's parents come into the story, except for Natsuko's mother, who is implied to be abusive.
  • Love Interests: Every single literature club member can be romanced, except for Mateo, who the Player Character dislikes deeply from before the game.
  • Overcome Their Differences: Yuuri and Natsuko are at odds in Act 1 because of their clashing personalities and writing styles, escalating to outright fighting in Act 2, then in Act 4 are much more at ease and are brought together by writing poems on the same theme.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: Satori and the Player Character. More than energetic, she is boisterous to the point of frequently getting into detention, while he tries to guide her into gentler activities.

Main characters

    Player Character
  • Big Eater: Can decimate an entire tray of cookies with Satori in Act 1 and has a nose like a bloodhound for sniffing out confectionery.
  • Childhood Friends: With Satori, and this shapes the entire story.
  • Delinquent: Often gets herself into trouble that Satori has to drag her out of, in an inverse of the original game.
  • Empty Shell: During Act 2, the Main Character is on autopilot, and as result, she gradually becomes devoid of most of her original personality.
  • Featureless Protagonist: Averted, in contrast to the original that was intentionally bland and used gender-neutral writing. The Player Character not only has a personality of her own but has an official full body sprite, too.
  • Gamer Chick: She is staunchly One of the Boys, playing action games and reading American Superhero comics.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: You can name Main Character as you wish.
  • Tomboy: Doesn't like stereotypically girly things

     Satori
  • Childhood Friends: With the player character.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: One of the romance options is Satori, the MC's childhood friend.
  • Fiery Redhead: Has pinkish-red hair and lashes out when applicable.
  • Hand Behind Head: One of Satori's sprites looks like this.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Satori sacrifices his life at the end of act 3 to restart the game with everyone (except him) alive.
  • Not Himself: Satori during Act 2. It turns out he has been manipulated by Mateo the whole time and wasn't even aware of what he has done.
  • Romantic Wingman: Satori gives you advice on how to appeal to each boy through the poem game.

     Yuuri

     Natsuko

     Mateo
  • Adaptational Jerkass: While Monika was genuinely kind despite her actions, Mateo is openly contemptuous of first the Player Character and then the player, and his motives are much less sympathetic.
  • The Bully: Mateo acted like this towards the player character before the story starts. Despite this, he loves the player character and resents this backstory.
  • Brainy Brunette: Knows how to play the piano, is learning how to play the guitar (as we learn in Act 1 as it is his excuse for being late), used to be in the debate club and is said to be a model student.
  • It's All About Me: While Monika has narcissistic traits, Mateo is a full-blown, textbook Malignant Narcissist. When "negging" and devaluing MC doesn't make her love him, he resorts to exploiting Satori's bipolar mania, Yuuri's Borderline Personality Disorder and Natsuko's PTSD. Exploiting others' personality flaws are common tactics for Narcissists who want their own way in things, as is faking their death.
  • If I Can't Have You…: Just like Monika, a jealous Mateo eliminates all competition for his beloved's affections, made all the worse by the fact that FemC is just as aware and terrified as the rest of them, until he starts controlling her, too. Unlike Monika, Mateo does not care that what he does is wrong.
  • Jerkass: Mateo can be a downright unpleasant prick.
  • Karma Houdini: Mateo is the reason why Act 2 happened and because of him Satori got deleted, but he still gets a happy ending (the only one in the game).
  • Medium Awareness: Is fully aware that Doki Doki Literature Club will have the club president being deleted for the sake of everyone else, even in a mod - so he switches places with Satori to have him take that fall instead, while Mateo himself returns in Act 4 to get the ending he wanted.
  • Troll: Likes poking fun at the player character's expense. Later does this to the player instead, with his parting message to them essentially being "Screw you, I win".
