The Male Students

    Minori Watanabe

Minori Watanabe - Ultimate Pseudologist

"The name's Minori Watanabe, and I'm the Ultimate Pseudologist."

Minori is the protagonist of the story. Despite being an Ultimate, he seems to hate his talent since it gives him a bad reputation. He is levelheaded, though a bit socially awkward and polite.

  • Adaptational Badass: After the beginning part of the story, he really seemed to have learned how to be more assertive and blunt. He even stands up to Monokuma now!
  • Break the Cutie: He seems to have gone through a lot being an Ultimate Pseudologist.
  • Broken Ace: He could be considered this with how he hates his talent and that it always seems to give him a bad name for him.
  • Consummate Liar: This is what his talent requires of him. Strangely enough, he hates his talent. However, even when Minori hates using his talent, he does tend to lie quite a lot. Most specifically, about his secret.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Minori can sometimes be shown doing this.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: He does this to himself a lot because of his talent, believing his talent will only do bad for him in the end and that he can't make friends because of this.
  • Nice Guy: He is polite towards the cast, though he does internally snark at times.
  • Not So Different: Kaniza pointed out how Sagiso and Minori are more alike than they'd realized, and given the fact that those two have argued this point is only much more noticeable. Sagiso wants to unite the group and keep them safe from harm, and so she expects them to be trustful and honest to each other. This led to Minori arguing about how they must still be suspicious of each other. In the end, the duo both just want to keep everyone safe from murder, and it is to note they are the supposed 'leaders' of the group.
  • The Protagonist: He is the main character of the story.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: This is most noted in Chapter 3 when Minori's flaws started to become more noticeable, most particularly his obsession with being depended on. Luckily it seemed like he's trying to change this.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: During Chapter 3, Minori got into a huge argument with Sagiso which ended up causing him to look like a huge jerkass in the end.
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: His hair is white.
    Haruko Yoshikawa

Haruko Yoshikawa - Ultimate Chocolatier

"Yup! I'm the Ultimate Chocolatier, Haruko Yoshikawa! Woohoo, an Ultimate Chocolatier! It sounds so delicious, huh!"

Haruko (prefers to be called Ko) is the Ultimate Chocolatier. He is bubbly and energetic, coming off as a kid. He seems to be naive and tends to be distracted easily.

  • Adorably Precocious Child: Haruko is definitely the cute one of the group, acting like a kid. It also adds on to how short he is, one of the shortest of the cast.
  • Beneath the Mask: From Haruko's free time events, it is revealed that Haruko is acting like a child on purpose in order to cope with his little brother's death.
  • Cheerful Child: He is definitely cheerful, but he is not a child.
  • In-Series Nickname: His nickname is Ko. He prefers to be called this.
  • Kill the Cutie: Haruko's case is definitely sad...
  • Manchild: He is definitely this, having a short height for a teen and acting as such.
  • Nice Guy: Haruko looks like an all-around nice guy. He may be naive, but he's adorably nice and perky.
  • Older Than They Look: Haruko looks like a kid, but he is definitely a high schooler.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: Haruko can be considered this.
  • Stepford Smiler: From Haruko's backstory, it could be this.
    Kakuma Arakaki

Kakuma Arakaki - Ultimate Wedding Planner

"Kakuma Arakaki. Some would know me as the Ultimate Wedding Planner."

Kakuma is the Ultimate Wedding Planner. He presents himself as a rude person, having been the one (if not the only) person who has grown a dislike for the protagonist, and for him it is solely because of his talent.

  • Jerkass: Kakuma seems to present himself as one.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: What Kakuma said about the killing game and about how he doesn't trust anyone can come off as this. He is right in that it isn't likely everyone won't harm each other, and he is right in that it doesn't matter if they go in groups or not.
  • Reverse Mole: Kakuma explains to Minori near the start of Chapter 3 that he will willingly become the 'traitor' in order to obtain information from Monokuma.
  • The Rival: He seems to be coming off as this potentially to Minori, him having judged the other for his talent solely. Though not anymore, considering he's dead.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In Chapter 3, it is implied that Kakuma actually wanted to become friends with the others.
  • Tsundere: This is how his actions may be perceived as.
  • The Smart One: Kakuma is definitely smart, and it is shown throughout the entire story.
  • When He Smiles: At the love hotel event.
    Nezumi Jirokichi

Nezumi Jirokichi - Ultimate Thief

"A-ah, right. Um... I'm Nezumi Jirokichi... Do I have to say it? Fine, but don't hurt me! I-I'm the Ultimate Thief! Ack, don't hurt me!"

Nezumi, despite being a thief, is very timid and fearful. He is easily afraid of anything and is prone to apologizing. Nezumi is also a kleptomanic, and that might be because he is a thief that he gained that trait of his.

  • Adaptational Badass: He definitely went through this in Chapter 2.
  • Badass Adorable: Nezumi, despite being timid, is still an Ultimate Thief for a reason. Just look at his performance with Seiga in Chapter 2!
  • Break the Cutie: Nezumi seems to go through this a lot.
  • Character Development: He definitely went through this during the second chapter.
  • Nice Guy: Nezumi is definitely one of the more nicer people.
  • Ship Tease: To Kaniza. In Chapter 2, he confessed to Kaniza and they are now officially a couple!
  • Too Happy to Live: Having confessed to Kaniza and developing into a more confident person, he obviously had to go.
    Fumio Fujiyoshi

Fumio Fujiyoshi - Ultimate Scholar

"My name is Fumio Fujiyoshi, and I'm the Ultimate Scholar."

Fumio is the Ultimate Scholar. He is mute, which is the primary reason why he writes his thoughts in his notepad. He seems to be a shy and quiet individual, docile to a point.

  • Deadpan Snarker: Fumio has shades of this.
  • The Quiet One: He is mute, but he does tend to write in his notepad when he wants to.
    • Him being mute is a lie though, as seen during Chapter 3.
  • The Reliable One: He was the one who saved the group during a trial, and nonetheless seems very smart as well.
  • The Speechless: Fumio is mute, so he speaks through his notepad. That is a lie though.
  • Took a Level in Badass: He saved everyone in the second trial. He also looked like he's taking on the role of Minori's partner during the third trial.
    Seiga Kosoku

Seiga Kosoku - Ultimate Stunt Double

"The name's Seiga Kosoku! Remember the name kid, for I am the Ultimate Stunt Double!"

Seiga is the Ultimate Stunt Double, and with such a daring talent comes his boisterous personality. He seems to believe that the killing game isn't real, but he is willing to help others and protect others in the name of being a hero.

  • Action Hero: He is definitely one in the show he starred in and is a stunt double, after all. This is also shown when he and the others confronted Monokuma, him being the one to fight the bear.
  • Adaptional Jerkass: Well, wouldn't necessarily label him as being a jerkass, but some could view Seiga violently yelling at Minori for the second class trial's result as this.
  • Badass Boast: He does boast a lot, but they are creditable considering he is the Ultimate Stunt Double, and during Chapter 1 he did make an awesome move against Monokuma.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He definitely has this to Minori and the others. He was the one who helped get Nezumi off of his feet and help Minori, after all.
  • Big Damn Hero: This is what Seiga imagines himself to be, considering that he believes he and the others are in some reality show.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: He loves some action, and he loves boasting about how he's the 'main character' of the story.
  • Character Tics: Seiga is usually shown to be cracking his knuckles.
  • Fingore: Definitely, as seen in Chapter 3.
  • Knuckle Cracking: Seiga can definitely be seen doing this.
  • Large Ham: Seiga is definitly prone to this. For crying out loud, he always proclaims he's the 'hero' of the killing game and always makes reference to his amazing skill.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: In Chapter 3.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Towards Fumio.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Seiga thinks he is the hero to stop the villain. Well, considering this is Danganronpa, things aren't at all black or white, nor that easy buddy...
    Ryoichi Homura

Ryoichi Homura - Ultimate Extraterrestrial Investigator

"My name is Ryoichi Homura, it's nice to meet you sir! I am the Ultimate Extraterrestrial Investigator."

With such a strange talent, Ryoichi is strange himself. He believes that mostly everything came from aliens, and for a moment he did believe Monokuma was one.

  • Blood from the Mouth: When he had poisoned himself.
  • Character Tics: Ryoichi tends to make statements about aliens and will refer to his classmates as "Mr./Ms. (Last Name)".
  • Overly Polite Pals: He tends to be polite to others, always referring to them by last name.
  • Stupid Good: He does have good intentions, but his plan in Chapter 3 is risky.
    Kamui Setsushi

Kamui Setsushi - Ultimate Mortician

"My name is Kamui Setsushi. I have been given the title of Ultimate Mortician. It is an honor to meet you."

Kamui is the Ultimate Mortician. He is very logical and firmly believes in helping the others to escape from Monokuma's grasp. He never raises his voice.

  • Heroic Sacrifice: Though he didn't die like Asami, he was still someone who was willing to sacrifice someone in order to protect the rest.
  • The Caretaker: Towards Rin.
  • The Leader: He used to have this role alongside Asami in the first chapter.
  • The Reliable One: During the first chapter, he was the one who usually led the group around alongside Asami.

The Female Students

    Saori Arai

Saori Arai - Ultimate Body Broker

"My name is Saori Arai, and I am the Ultimate Body Broker."

Saori is a quiet and straightforward individual. She does seem to worry about the well-being of others, but she seems to like doing things her own way and rarely speaks unless asked.

  • The Caretaker: Saori goes out of her way to help people. First, she helped Minori try to talk to Fumio. Now, in Chapter 3, she is reaching out to Sheina alongside Kamui and Rin.
  • Team Mom: Saori is definitely in this category, especially during Chapter 3.
  • The Stoic: Saori doesn't seem to talk unless she feels like doing so.
    Fuwari Akatsuki

Fuwari Akatsuki - Ultimate Spirit Medium

"My name is Fuwari Akatsuki, however I am known better as Fiona the Ultimate Spirit Medium."

Fuwari (prefered to be called Fiona) is a spirit medium who believes firmly that Monokuma is a spirit. She is a firm believer of whatever she believes in, and is very calm. She could, however, emit a dark aura around her, though unintentionally.

  • Man on Fire: Well, this is how Fuwari died (sorta) in Chapter 2.
  • Mercy Kill: This is what Rin did to Fuwari.
  • Phony Psychic: Fuwari being a spirit medium is a lie. She cannot perform seances at all.
  • Rags to Riches: Fuwari's backstory. She became an Ultimate when she had nothing, after all.
  • The Quiet One: Fuwari is mysterious.
    Kaniza Tsukitaiyo

Kaniza Tsukitaiyo - Ultimate Astrophotographer

"The name's Kaniza Tsukitaiyo, and I'm the Ultimate Astrophotographer! It's a pleasure to meet you."

Kaniza loves to talk about stars and astrology, and that would make sense given her talent. She is very friendly and easily forgiving of others, though she could be a bit too trusting.

  • All-Loving Hero: Kaniza has never once shown her dislike or distaste towards any of the characters.
  • Break the Cutie: Kaniza seems to be whirling down in a spiral straight into Chapter 3. Her positivism may have annoyed Rin and because of the last two trials, she is much more nervous. This became worse when she realized that something was wrong between Minori and Sagiso, and especially when her boyfriend was murdered... and that she's naked...
  • Ditzy Genius: Kaniza is a sweet and energetic person, and to top that off she is an Ultimate!
  • Nice Guy: She is definitely one of the nicest people in the cast.
  • Ship Tease: With Nezumi. She is the only one who calls him affectionately with the name 'Nezzy' as well. The ship is now canon in Chapter 2.
    Amyto Uchida

Amyto Uchida - Ultimate Hypnotist

"Hello, my name's Amyto Uchida, and I'm the Ultimate Hypnotist!"

Judging from her talent, one would've assumed Amyto was quite the mysterious and shady character. However, she is the opposite, being friendly and a bit of a ditz at times.

  • Big Eater: From the many scenes, she seemed to be this.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Amyto is not actually a nice person. She was faking it all this time, having been the one to kill Fuwari and having wanted to torture Minori. She also mentions that she views everyone as 'test subjects', not as 'friends'. The only person she ever cared about was Sai.
  • Break the Cutie: When Asami was about to be executed and after the first case, she definitely was broken.
  • Not as You Know Them: Amyto is actually faking her outward persona.
  • The Fake Cutie: Amyto is only happy-go-lucky and hyper because of the drugs she takes. Her real personality is that of a gloomy and uncaring individual.
  • Yandere: Amyto's reason in killing Fuwari was because she believed that the reality she was living in was fake and that she needed to create a world in where she could live with Sai. Why kill Fuwari? Well, she needed test subjects for her to test out her hypnotism.
    Asami Karihime

Asami Karihime - Ultimate Knight

"It's an honor to meet you! It is I, the Ultimate Knight and vanquisher of darkness, Asami Karihime! If it pleases you, I would greatly enjoy working alongside you!"

Asami is the Ultimate Knight. Being a knight, Asami holds a determined mindset to protect those around her. She is very chivalrous and optimistic, even when things are against her.

  • Action Hero: Well, she is the Ultimate Knight for a reason.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Though still good at heart, she did kill Haruko.
  • Genki Girl: She is definitely one of the more energetic and outspoken, friendly ones of the cast.
  • Go-Getter Girl: She is polite, being a knight and is one of the more outspoken ones of the cast. She's also one of the people in charge of wanting to stop Monokuma and to find a way to escape.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Asami and Kamui decided to kill Haruko in order to save the others from dying (Chapter 1). Since Monokuma was going to kill them under a few hours, they felt like they had no choice but to kill someone. Asami was executed in the following case.
  • Ideal Hero: Asami definitely sees herself as this, which isn't a surprise considering her talent. She is the type to help people and is really polite and kind.
  • Team Mom: She is very keen on protecting the other Ultimates and tries her best to find a way out with them, no matter what happens.
  • The Face: Considering she was the one who came up with the plans in Chapter 1, she is this. She also does most of the talking against Monokuma other than Kakuma and some others.
    Sheina Yakumoro The Twelfth

Sheina Yakumoro the 12th - Ultimate Egyptologist

"Kneel, subject, for you are in the august presence of Sheina Yakumoro the 12th, the Ultimate Egyptologist! I am the physical embodiment of Horus, Son of Osris, and the ruler of the Upper and Lower Kingdoms!"

Sheina is a strange woman, being what many would assume a 'chuunibyou'. However, she is a chuunibyou towards Egyptian mythology. That doesn't stop her, however, from being intellectual and caring over her peers.

  • Bi the Way: There is a hint that Sheina might have a thing for Saori.
  • Character Development: From a confident and haughty Pharaoh wannabe to a more isolated woman, or at least so far.
  • Character Tics: Sheina is usually shown to be speaking about the 'Son of Osiris' and anything related to Egyptian mythology.
  • Chuunibyou: She is this for Egyptian mythology and history.
  • Despair Event Horizon: She lost both of her close friends in Chapter 2. What made it worse was that Amyto's very different from her persona.
  • Large Ham: Her constant talk about the Egyptian Gods, her being a Pharoah, and her 'subject' talk are all this.
  • Overly Long Name: ... Sheina, is that even your real name?
    Rin Hoseki

Rin Hoseki - Ultimate Jeweler

"My name is Rin Hoseki, and I am the Ultimate Jeweler."

Rin is the Ultimate Jeweler. She is very quiet, looming in the background to watch over the others. She seems to be someone who does her own thing, and whether she cares about the others or not remains unknown.

    Sagiso Hazuki

Sagiso Hazuki - Ultimate Psychogeographer

"Ah, sorry about that. My name is Sagiso Hazuki. I know, it's a bit of an odd name. Don't mind it, I really like my name. I'm the Ultimate Psychogeographer."

Sagiso is a very caring individual. She seems to care for the others, invading into the personal space to take care of whoever she's fussing over. She could come off a bit bossy and nosy, though it seems most likely that she care for the others.

  • Break the Cutie: When Minori and Sagiso argued.
  • Fatal Flaw: You could argue that Sagiso's nosiness and sense of leadership is this. Though it is good, it can be abused. Her nosiness led to her expecting people to tell her everything, and this led to her huge argument with Minori. This only escalated further when she sees him with Monokuma, and now she is led to believe he isn't trustworthy anymore.
  • Go-Getter Girl: Sagiso is the leader of the group, taking after Asami.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: She is this, especially to Minori.
  • Ship Tease: Mainly with Minori. Minori is shown to fluster around with her and Sagiso is shown to invade his personal space. She is shown to show great concern over him.
  • Team Mom: She always moves into others' personal space and tries to fix them up, especially from her scenes with Minori.
  • The Leader: She is the one who mainly leads the group.

Monokuma is the main villain of the story. He is the one who, like always, throws the poor cast of Ultimates into the Killing Game.

  • Adaptation Personality Change: Monokuma in this story seemed to be much more willing to bend the rules. He also acts a bit more sane than in the original games, where he is much more boisterous and whatnot.
  • Big Bad: He is the only villain of the story so far, if not for the supposed mastermind or whoever it is behind the scenes.

How well does it match the trope?
