    The Otherwordly Man (The Player)

Characters in Dislyte

An amnesiac man who suddenly found himself in Gyrate and revealed to be from another world where Espers and Miracles don't exist. He stars in the second story mode.

  • Animal Motifs: The fox helmet he wears represents his cunning to avoid danger, in other words, he's sly as a fox. It only gets more symbolic when he's paired up with the bunny Esper Sachiko.
  • Bittersweet Ending: He's able to make a transformed Sachiko keep her humanity and save her life, but she's confined within the Gate of Promotion, and he loses his chance to go back to his world. Furthermore, shutting down the Miracle Nexus has caused all the Miracles across the world to go haywire, making survival for humanity even harder. Even worse is that Gaius is revealed to be a high-ranked Shadow Counsilor bent on eliminating humanity for reasons unknown and is plotting to further his agenda. At the very least, the player chooses to join the Esper Union to truly save the world in some way.
  • The Call Knows Where You Live: His indifference to be The Chosen One to save the world doesn't let him get a moment of rest, as the Shadow Decree and Miramon want to hunt him down either way. By the end, he chooses to defend the new world as an Esper Union member as a promise to Sachiko.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Though not on the same extent as an actual Esper, he's has more strength than the average human thanks to his half-monster status.
  • I Choose to Stay: He promises Sachiko to stay in the new world and defend it from the Miracles, now that they've started to act up all over the planet.
  • The Chosen One: According to Raven, he's prophesied to save the world, though he couldn't care much about it since he'd rather return to his world.
  • Cool Helmet: He's given a fox helmet to wear and to hide most of his face that's Miramon, which is briefly seen as having jagged rocks on the back.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: He's a half-human, half-Miramon being, though he was formerly a normal human before finding himself in Gyrate.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: He doesn't remember exactly how he wound up in the world of Espers, but he's at least able to recall culture from his own world.
  • Late Character Syndrome: The game had already a story mode with Brynn as the main protagonist until he comes by the second story mode, and he's unplayable to boot because he's not an Esper but a strange Half-Human Hybrid.
  • No Name Given: He doesn't have an official name, but he will be known as whatever the player's username is. That being said, the Swiftspace user account is not him by virtue of being able to chat with Shadow Decree members.
  • Properly Paranoid: Right from the start, he is very wary about making any sort of connections with anybody as he's being targeted by the Shadow Decree and monitored from the shadows on his every move. It's also the reason why he can't fully trust Sachiko until it takes several life-crucial moments for him to finally think of her as a friend.
  • Put on a Bus: Past his story mode, there hasn't been a single mention of him or even the events that transpired.
  • Refusal of the Call: As Raven tells him, he's The Chosen One who will save the world of Espers, but he'd rather go back to his world because he feels indifferent about risking his life in a world where he doesn't belong. Of course he suffers from the Shadow Decree and Miramon trying to kill him anyway. After Sachiko's sacrifice, he decides to accept the call to defend the world of Espers for her.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Of all things, when Sachiko knocks out a bunch of guards while showing off that she's being a spy infiltrating Abigail's office, the player tells her that she's not Ezio.
  • The Strategist: He's a natural-born strategist capable of formulating good ideas to avoid needless confrontations and tricking people up, which makes Raven wish that he'd join the Union. She gets her wish.
  • Too Much Alike:
    • Anesidora comments to him that he's just like her in that she's able to understand the call of her "kind" (in her case, Miramon, allegedly), but in his case, he can understand the Miracles themselves calling to him.
    • He has a lot in common with Sachiko: when she was an orphan, Sachiko also used to be very distrustful of people because she was ridiculed by other orphans for her getting abandoned by her mother, until she broke through her mindset through her motherly teacher Tang Na, making her wonder why it takes so long to finally trust someone (echoins a sentiment the player had told to himself before trusting Sachiko).

Espers

    In General
  • An Adventurer Is You: Each Esper has four roles: Fighter, Support, Controller, and Defender.
    • The Fighter role is the DPS class, specializing in dealing heavy damage. Both melee and ranged combat count under the Fighter role, although some Fighter Espers are based in one or another.
    • The Support role provides status buffs and healing for the party.
    • The Controller role specializes in inflicting debuffs and crowd control on the enemies to weaken them.
    • The Defender role is the Tank role, designed to take hits with their high defense and HP. They also tend to strengthen the team's defense and be taunters so specific enemies can only damage them.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Espers can really get out there in terms of skin, eye, and hair color.
  • Magical Species Transformation: Espers are humans that have undergone a transformation into superpowered beings. Espers are all associated with a mythological figure, so their transformation reflects their host in some way. This can mean some remain mostly the same appearance-wise, while others might grow new body parts, turn into furries, gain unnatural coloration, and so on.
  • Mythical Motifs: The Espers are all representations of mythological figures from Greek, Egyptian, Norse, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Mesopotamian, and Aztec mythologies, ranging from gods, heroes, and monsters. As a result, their abilities and appearances are based on what mythological figure they host their powers while modifying them for a music-focused Urban Fantasy setting. In particular, Espers based on mythical monsters or Egyptian gods (which have animal heads) tend to be Beast Men (i.e Freddy, Drew, Sander), have Little Bit Beastly traits (i.e Berenice, Ren Si), or have animal companions based on whoever they represent (i.e Jacob and his serpent companion).
  • No Full Name Given: With the exception of the Saunberts and the Espers of House Ramses, the non-Chinese Espers don't have a confirmed last name.
  • One-Steve Limit: There's a handful of downplayed examples where characters who have very similar names to each other.
    • For playable Esper pairs, there's Laura and Lauren, as well as David and Javid.
    • Some Espers have names similar to NPCs, like Lin Xiao (playable) and Li Xiao (NPC), as well as Nick (playable) and Nicholas (NPC).
    • There's even some Espers with names similar to their divine benefactors. Helena is the Esper of Helen of Troy, while Cang Jie's Esper is named Cang Ji.
  • Rule of Seven: The Esper Seven, who are said to be the first seven people in Grandis that received their divine powers. These seven people are Gaius, Feng Nuxi, Hyde, Embla, Pritzker, Narmer, and Raven.
  • Sibling Team: If two or more Espers are siblings, expect their divine benefactors to also be siblings or heavily connected to each other (Baldr and Hodur, Izanagi and Izanami, Sun Wukong and the Six-Eared Macaque, etc.). This only seems to apply to blood siblings though; adopted siblings (like Laura and Ollie) and siblings by choice (like Leora and Elaine) don't fall under this trend.
  • Tactical Rock–Paper–Scissors: Each Esper can have one of the five attributes: Inferno, Wind, Flow, Shimmer, and Umbra. Inferno beats Wind, Wind beats Flow, Flow beats Inferno, Umbra beats all three of them, and Shimmer beats Umbra but is neutral against anything else. As a result, Shimmer and especially Umbra Espers (who have their own Echo system) are harder to come by.

Evening Sounds

A group of Espers who operate a bar and discreetly gather intel from oblivious patrons, led by Celine.

    Melanie (Medusa)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/melanie_medusa.png
"Money or my love? You can only give up one."
Pink Beauty

Voiced By: Tanya Saari (English), Akari Kitou (Japanese), Kim Down (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Rarity: Rare
Role: Controller

The bartender of Evening Sounds who has had a bad history dating men. She is a controller Esper who can petrify foes.

  • Fatal Gaze deals damage to an enemy based on Melanie’s ATK, with a chance to transfer a debuff to the target.
  • Covenant of Punishment is a passive ability. Each attack reduces the target’s AP by a certain amount. If the target’s AP is below a certain percentage, Melanie will inflict Petrification.
  • Queen of the Night deals damage to all enemies based on Melanie’s ATK, with a chance to reduce their AP. When ascended, if one of the targets is debuffed, their AP will be reduced further.

  • Big Sister Instinct: Though not related by blood, she feels that it's her job to aid other women with failed romances to find solace with her. Even listening to others' tales of failed love makes her feel anger.
  • Cool Shades: Her pink visor helps her as a Power Limiter, as having it on prevents her skill to petrify people from going off by accident.
  • Medusa: What she is obviously styled after, including the snake hair and the power to petrify others.
  • Otaku: You wouldn't know at first, but she's a huge comic book fan.
  • Shipper on Deck: She tries to hitch Camille with Lewis or Bardon at a singles mixer with the theme being playing frisbee. Unfortunately, Lewis gets too competitive with Camille to care about romantic feelings, and Bardon indirectly friend-zones her by proposing an alliance as a team.
Melanie: What kind of singles mixer is this?
  • Taken for Granite: As the Esper of Medusa, her ability to do this is a given.
  • Woman Scorned: Her love life is described as “volatile”, and not only do her own troubles with men make her mad, but listening to the women at her bar crying over men who have dumped or cheated on them just makes her even angrier, to the point where she believes it’s her job to protect her fellow women from scummy men with her Esper powers.

    Celine (Siren)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/celine_siren.png
"My dear fans. What would you look to listen to today?"

Voiced By: Amy Lovato (English), Aoi Koga (Japanese), Lee Myung-hee (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Epic
Role: Controller

A famous songstress and leader of Evening Sounds. She is a controller Esper who can put foes to sleep.

  • Serene Melody deals damage to an enemy based on Celine's ATK, and has a chance to put the target to sleep.
  • Sound of Nature removes a debuff from all allies and gives them SPD Up. Ascending this ability lets Celine give everyone DEF Up as well.
  • Slumber deals damage to all enemies based on Celine's ATK. It also lowers their AP and has a chance to put them to sleep.

  • Animal Motifs: Her design incorporates elements from both fish and birds, namely the fin-like garments flowing off of her and the feather in her hair. This ties into the siren motif because of the differing interpretations of the creature, some being part bird like a harpy and others leaning more fishy like a mermaid.
  • Awesome by Analysis: She has had zero singing lessons and has only learned her trade just by examining other singers. However, this makes her a horrible singing teacher and needs to actually learn from real singing teachers to teach others.
  • Forced Sleep: Her kit revolves around inflicting the Sleep status on her enemies.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: Her second career blurb notes that she's constantly pursued and admired by the men who visit her bar, which she exploits by draining them out of their money by singing encores.
  • Hidden Depths: Ruthless as she is, she can be a source of inspiration, such as advicing a singer not affiliated with her bar to continue her singing career because it's her own decision and shouldn't be entirely decided by other people trying to convince her to quit. In fact, she had gone through a similar experience herself.
  • Knowledge Broker: She exploits the use of her bar as a means to learn about anything and everything about anyone to stay ahead in life.
  • Irony:
    • She's modeled after the Greek siren creature and yet she isn't easy to deem as siren-looking unless you know how sirens had different interpretations on their looks. A side tale has her talking to Biondina, who's literally a siren-like Esper.
    • Despite being her bar's top singer, she lacks the necessary singing lesson basics that even her own singers know more about than she does.
  • Making a Splash: She can use water to attack.
  • Only in It for the Money: Has a rather dim view of the world due to believing that money gets anyone anywhere, making her into a rather ruthless businesswoman that she only does encores for patrons who spent a lot on the bar. Bizarrely, this is a similarity in line to how sirens of Greek mythology were portrayed as ruthless monsters who baited and killed sailors with their alluring voices.
  • Panty Shot: Her skirt is dangerously short that it's pretty easy to see underneath them when she's doing acrobatics.
  • Water Is Womanly: She's very elegant and ladylike, and her powers allow her to control water.

    Camille (Hati)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/camille_66.png
"Don't underestimate me! When I get mad, I even scare myself!"

Voiced By: Mia Zanotti (English), Nozomi Nagumo (Japanese), Jang Mi (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

A streamer and waitress for Evening Sounds, using the internet to document her freedom after dealing with a life of Helicopter Parents. She is a Fighter Esper who specializes in inflicting Bleed.

  • Claw Attack deals damage to an enemy based on Camille's ATK and extends all enemy debuffs for an extra turn.
  • Double Claws attacks all enemies, dealing damage based on Camille's ATK and inflicting Diseased (unresistable). If a target has Bleed, Bleed damage is immediately applied and the debuff's duration is reduced. When ascended, if Bleed damage is successfully applied this way, the target will also be stunned.
  • Wolven Smash inflicts Sear and Bleed on all enemies, then attacks them (damage is based on ATK). If an enemy has Sear when Camille attacks, they receive another stack of Bleed.

  • Animal Motifs: Wolves, as Hati was a wolf in Norse mythology. Though, she’s far more cutesy than ferocious compared to the other canine based Espers.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: As she warns in her menu quote, if she's angered, she can get wild.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Although not older than her superiors, Camille is protective of them that she can go as far as pranking a man who used Melanie as one option of others to see which one woman he'd hitch to by going out with all of them in secret of each other.
  • Character Blog: Camille is a VTuber when she’s not waitressing, and she has her own Twitter and Instagram accounts, as well as a YouTube channel.
  • The Gadfly: Pranks are listed as her favorite thing, and she has a tendency to pull them on people who rub her the wrong way.
  • Helicopter Parents: She grew up with a bad set of these. They chose everything she said and wore, and sent her to the Esper Academy after her transformation because they wanted her to be a hero. This style of parenting took a heavy toll on Camille, and she eventually decided enough was enough and fled home the night she turned 18.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: The fans of other popular streamers see her in a bad light for being more popular and try to ruin her reputation by harassing her and expose her real nature behind a cute and innocent girl, though she states that she never defined herself as cute and innocent when she's pushed into her Rage Breaking Point seeing them harassing Melanie. Fortunately, this only earns her more adoration from her fans for willing to sacrifice her streaming popularity to protect Melanie.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: Her summoning quote has her say that she’s not a puppy... right before suddenly getting distracted and chasing after a frisbee.
  • Little Bit Beastly: She has wolf ears, paws, and a tail.
  • Modesty Shorts: As her skirt is short, she wears them to avoid a Panty Shot. Subverted in-game, however, because she does not wear Modesty Shorts unlike pictured in her mugshot.
  • Panty Shot: Her skirt is so short that it's quite easy to see underneath it in her animations.
  • The Prankster: Her favorite pastime.
  • Unexplained Accent: For some reason, she's got a very thick Scottish accent in English.

Graywater Bounty Hunter's Guild

A neutral faction led by Triki who rules over Graywater. Despite being neutral, the guild isn't a bad group of people but go with other rules not used at the Esper Union. And yet, they are on good terms with the Esper Union and the Shadow Decree (at times).

    Ren Si (Black Tortoise)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ren_si_black_tortoise.png
"It's up to me to keep everyone safe."

Voiced By: Rory Morris (English), Satoshi Inomata (Japanese), Kim Shin-woo (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Epic
Role: Defender

An herbalist and one of the guild's directors, fiercely loyal to Triki. Ren Si is a tank that can cause team-wide disruption with his special taunt mechanics and by shattering enemy defenses.

  • Turtler damages an enemy and has a chance of lowering their defenses.
  • Life-giver passively activates when Ren Si's health reaches 1 HP; he'll now perform a counterattack if struck by an enemy, then once the ability ends, he regains a percent of his max health. It also refreshes the cooldown on True Warrior
  • True Warrior damages all enemies based on his defense value and has a chance of inflicting taunt on the whole enemy team. This chance doubles if the enemies' defense is lower than Ren Si's.

  • A Father to His Men: People working under him are intimidated by his appearance and fear expulsion when failing their assignments. Instead, he takes the time to look after and even provide special training so that they may continue working. And if a recruit endangers their life more while still getting a dangerous job done, he is more than willing to request for a deduction on his own salary as responsibility and then transfer that deduction as a bonus for said recruit.
  • Little Bit Beastly: He has horns and a tail like a dragon.
  • Animal Motifs: The tortoise with a snake tail, symbolizing his ties to the Black Tortoise; one of the Chinese Dragon gods who protected Kyoto on the east.
  • Beneath the Mask: He is rather tough on the exterior, but people who earn his respect get to show him his true self.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: He had mocked Triki into his idea of making his guild, until Triki defeated him easily and earned Ren Si's complete respect. Mind you, Ren Si is an Inferno esper with a huge defensive advantage while Triki is a Wind esper incapable of dealing too much damage.
  • Draw Aggro: True Warrior can taunt all enemies.
  • Green Thumb: He's an expert herbalist who treats sick people using his know-how. Unfortunately, he doesn't know the symbolic nature of plants.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: Decked out in a mean leather jacket to compliment his thuggish appearance.
  • Horned Humanoid: Has two small horns on his head.
  • Last Chance Hit Point: When Life-giver activates, it grants Ren Si the Standoff buff, meaning that he will always retain one HP and cannot be knocked out until his next turn.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: That shield of his is almost large than him. And he's already a big dude.
  • The Man Makes the Weapon: Although his shield can withstand attacks and cannot be broken, he points out to two curious members of his team that his shield doesn't do the work but rather himself being a team player, as shown as how he lets them use his shield to protect themselves from his attacks. Despite Ren Si not getting through his own shield, his subordinates were literally cowering in fear behind it and preferred to stay put during his assault without doing anything else productive (but then again, they are naturally terrified of him anyway).
  • Mighty Glacier: He is meant to protect his side from attacks with his high defense. He can even attempt to remain on the field with Standoff and heal himself a bit once it wears off.
  • No Social Skills: He himself admits that he isn't dense, but he is completely oblivious to the symbolic significance of the plants he's so devoted to that he mistankenly gives Melanie flowers meant to be given as signs of love coming from him rather than just gifts for her guild (it didn't help that she has had a bad history with dating men). He tries rectifying this mistake by sending her an apology card...and a cactus (because it symbolizes "fierce independence, self-reliance, and strength") that shreds her fingertips. Cue the angry screams.
  • The Promise: He is completely a man of his word when he must fulfill promises, even if said promises are from bets he loses to and they are rather humiliating (such as standing in the foyer while carrying a vase on his head for an hour, and when it fell down, he decided to repair the vase just to finish the remaining time).
  • The Scapegoat: His family was tarnished by a crime they didn't commit and he set out to find evidence to clean their name. However, the head of his family convinced him that pursuing the truth had far more consequences and made Ren Si take the whole blame so that the family could move on. Due to this, he was exiled from his town with his name tarnished forever.

    Xiao Yin (Azure Dragon)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xiao_yin_sprite.png
"There are two things in life I enjoy: one is swordsmanship, the other...is traveling the world."
Dragon's Roar

Voiced By: Ryan McManus (English), Kōhei Amasaki (Japanese), Seok Seung-hoon (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Epic
Role: Fighter

A previously ill man who enjoys traveling the world to see everything. He is a Fighter esper who can hide away to avoid being targeted and deal extra damage.

  • Shadow Sword attacks an enemy, dealing damage based on Xiao Yin's ATK. It also gives Xiao Yin SPD Up.
  • Dragon Gasp attacks an enemy thee times, each hit dealing damage based on Xiao Yin's ATK, while also extending Stealth if he happens to have it. Stealth prevents Xiao Yin from being targeted by enemy attacks, and he'll only take damage from attacks that hit the whole party. While in Stealth, Xiao Yin does more damage, and he'll absorb AP from his targets while dealing damage. When ascended, he'll begin the battle with Stealth already active.
  • Blossom Sword attacks an enemy four times, each hit dealing damage based on Xiao Yin's ATK. He alo has a chance to reduce the target's AP, and upon doing so, he will gain Stealth.

  • Afraid of Needles: One of many that he doesn't like to get. Even rubbing alcohol on wounds makes him squirm, because it all reminds him of his days at the hospital.
  • Animal Motifs: The dragon, referencing the Azure Dragon, who was one of the Four Guardians from Chinese mythology that protected Kyoto on the east. This goes in line with Ren Si, Li Guang, and Lin Xiao, who are modeled after the other three.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Although he is very often friendly, seeing him without his smile on is a sign that people should get the hell out of his way.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Invoked at times. Though he could be seen as loafing around, it turns out that it's his method of finishing important missions. He sees talking to kids as a good source of intel, and the places he goes to happen to be visited by people that his guild must make contact with.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Though his appearance mostly takes on dark cues, he is perhaps the nicest among to the guild.
  • Delicate and Sickly: Spent his whole childhood confined to a hospital bed due to a congenital heart condition. However, he transformed into an esper, helping him recover from his condition.
  • Horned Humanoid: Has two long horns on his head.
  • Manchild: What people see him as because of his penchant to loaf around and play with children.
  • The Reliable One: Regarding places of interest, as he gives Triki many interesting locales in Gyrate when the latter was certain he saw there was all to see. Triki jokingly refers to Xiao Yin as a walking Travelpedia.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Zora's red.
  • Sweet Tooth: Enjoys sweets a lot, which also helps him to be a favorite person to the children of Graywater.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He doesn't wear a proper shirt, instead wearing a cropped jacket with full sleeves and a belt around his midsection. However, the scales near his chest and hips can enlarge and multiply to cover his exposed skin, though this is only really visible with his 3D model and not his 2D artwork.
  • Walking the Earth: His hobby is outdoor fun, wanting to go out and explore the world due to being bedridden in a hospital since his whole childhood.

    Triki (Loki)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/triki_loki.png
"I know a bad deal when I see one."

Voiced By: Rex Anderson (English), Toshihiko Seki (Japanese), Jeong Jae-heon (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Controller

The Hunter's Guild Captain who renovated the desolate city of Graywater and turned it into a neutral faction, this sly Esper is classy and merciless.

Triki is a controller Esper who's talented when it comes to messing with foes, with his passive preventing his attacks from missing and punishing enemies who clear their teammates' debuffs heavily.

  • Greenflames attacks an enemy twice, dealing damage that's based on Triki's ATK, with the second hit deaing far more damage than the first one. Each attack transfers a debuff from Triki to the target, and if the transfer is successful, then there's a chance that the attack will stun the target.
  • Gambit is a passive that ensures that Triki's attacks won't miss. If an enemy clears their teammates' debuffs, they will lose a chunk of their HP and all buffs alongside becoming Petrified.
  • Revolver attacks all enemies three times, each dealing damage equal to a percentage of his ATK. There's a chance of dispelling a single buff from all targets and inflicting Miss Rate Up. When ascended, the first strike of this ability extends the duration of all enemy debuffs.

  • A Father to His Men: He does everything he can for his people through his business gains. He even wants to equip them with weapons not because it may not work on the Miramon, but because he - ironically against his own beliefs - wants to give them "hope" rather than seeing them cower in fear and be sitting ducks waiting for Esper help which could devolve into chaos for Espers if expectations aren't met. There's a reason he practically made Graywater a bustling city under his command.
  • All for Nothing: Deep down, he feared that seeing Eira making it as a musician while being an Esper Union Ops Chief could've meant that she didn't need his help during their days at the orphanage. Eira reassures him that she always appreciated him for being so supportive of her and will never try to forget about him.
  • Childhood Friends: His careers reveal that he and Eira grew up in a "hopeless" orphanage together. He protected her and supported her musical dreams, while she cared for him without any strings. He was shocked when she joined the Union, but by all accounts still considers her a friend.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: His creepy appearance and Joker-like face don't really represent how nice he can be.
  • The Fashionista: He is up-to-date with the latest fashion trends and has been repeatedly scouted to sponsor clothing by fashion companies, but he always turns them all down.
  • The Gambler: Has shades of this, with a voice line talking about betting and his animations using things like coins and a roulette wheel.
  • Good Luck Charm: Invoked. His horns actually shed material, which was repurposed into necklaces that the Salisman Corporation used behind his back to make a profit on his own subordinates buying them (even Ren Si fell for it). He is less than pleased to find out about it and looks forward to "kindly" ask for a "reasonable" cut of the profits.
  • Hidden Depths: While he's undoubtedly concerned with himself, his friendship with Eira and willingness to protect her indicates that there's some good to him, yet. His careers also mention that he occasionally helps the poor or the needy, and considers things like dreams naive, but still precious.
  • Horned Humanoid: He has a pair of giant bright green horns on his head.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is Triki, a play on the word trick. This fits how he's the host of the trickster god Loki and that Triki climbed up to the top in Graywater with his cunningness.
  • Might Makes Right: Strongly believes that the strong can only survive, while the rest who hope, dream, and wish for sincerity are "the sentiments of children."
  • No Shirt, Long Jacket: Wears a leopard print jacket with bright green fur trim and no shirt underneath it.
  • Orphanage of Fear: Lived in one alongside Eira after their parents died to the Miramon, with him protecting her from bullies.
  • Self-Made Man: Used to be an orphan who would risk getting beaten up by people he stole from while also making sure Eira was practicing music. Now he literally rules all of Graywater and everyone in his circle respects him a great deal.
  • The Social Expert: He can read people like a book. It's thanks to him that Ren Si has become more astute (though Ren Si is still rough around the edges).
  • Taken for Granite: His Revolver passive petrifies any foe who tries to lift up debuffs rather than letting debuffs clear out by turns.
  • The Trickster: Loves to toy with his friends and enemies. Unsurprisingly, as he is modeled after Loki, the Greek god defined as a trickster toying with his own fellow gods and opponents.
  • Troll:
    • Although he does help Eira enjoy a day off (she had forgotten her own birthday over her preparations for a charity concert event), it didn't help that he did so while making her look all over his house (and front and back lawns) for 2 hours for a bracelet he allegedly lost...that he put in a safe. And he only stopped her when she was at the edge of her patience by looking into his trash. She clearly was not amused. He was.
    • As for battle purposes, his kit revolves around annoying and causing mayhem on the enemy with crippling debuffs and even extending existing debuffs.

    Zora (Amunet)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zora_amunet.png
"I found you, so stop struggling."

Voiced By: Madison Brunoehler (English), Nao Ojika (Japanese), Kang Sae-bom (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

The rumored Shadow Hunter and Triki's right hand woman in the Graywater Bounty Hunter's Guild. Though she may display a cold disposition as a lone wolf who pushes others away, deep down, she is a child at heart. She is a fighter Esper who can follow up attacks with Keen Edge.

  • Keen Edge deals damage to all enemies based on Zora's ATK with a chance to inflict Diseased. This attack heals Zora for a certain percentage of damage dealt, and does more damage if there are fewer targets on the field.
  • Rift Assault attacks an enemy three times, dealing damage based on Zora's ATK and dealing bonus damage upon landing a critical hit. Zora also gains SPD Up, and has a chance of following up with Keen Edge; if her HP is above a certain amount, this chance is a guarantee. When ascended, his ability has a chance of dispelling buffs from the target.
  • Galaxy Rush deals damage to all enemies based on Zora's ATK and inflicts Buff Blocker. Like Rift Assault, she has a chance of following up this attack with Keen Edge; if her HP is above a certain amount, the chance is a guarantee.

  • Animal Motifs: The bunny, which she is very fond of herself.
  • Badass Longcoat: She wields an astral longcoat from which she can conjure weapons out of nothing from it to attack her enemies. This is a representation of the Egyptian goddess Amunet, who represented the obscurity and invisible power inherent in the nothingness that predated creation.
  • Blow You Away: Her main element is wind. Ironically, it's not her actual attribute as a flow Esper.
  • Clothing Combat: As stated above, her weapon is essentially her cloak, which she can conjure spears and projectiles from as well as teleport with it.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her orphanage was burned down and her mentor was killed by Catherine.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Of the Bloody Hunt event tale, as she pursues Catherine for destroying the orphanage where Zora lived at and also killed her mentor.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: During the Bloody Hunt event tale, she begins to see Xiao Yin as a close friend and decides to drop finishing off Catherine in favor of keeping him alive from enemy reinforcements.
  • Foil: To Catherine.
    • Zora grew up in a loving orphanage while Catherine grew up in an Orphanage of Fear that made her into a Troubled Abuser.
    • From the above experiences, Zora became a lone wolf slowly defrosting over time, while Catherine utterly abhors companionship and likes to instill fear and despair on others.
  • Hidden Depths: Her fondness of bunnies and anything related to them. Although she doesn't find bunny merchandise appealing, it makes her remember her happy days at the orphanage.
  • I Work Alone: Due to her Dark and Troubled Past, she avoids social interaction because she fears to be hurt from losing people close to her. Xiao Yin has tried to defrost her, though.
  • Leitmotif: Jumpin'.
  • Mystical White Hair: Her white hair helps accentuate her galaxy motif and her lone wolf status.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: The disaster that struck the orphanage she used to live at has made her into a lone wolf who wishes to avoid making friendships so she doesn't go through the pain of losing people again.
  • Power Floats: Her Esper powers give her the ability to float and dash in the air.
  • Revenge: She seeks to kill Catherine for the destruction of the orphanage where Zora lived at.
  • Teleport Cloak: In addition to summoning weapons from it, Zora can also pop in and out of her galaxy cloak herself.

    Petros (Minotaur)

"RAAAGH!! No one... can stop me!!"

Voiced By: Luca Xavier (English), Masahiro Itou (Japanese), Song Du-ha (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

Known as the Guardian of Graywater, this giant rock-and-muscle man watches over the guild and protects it like the family he never had. He is a Fighter Esper who can pick off low health targets with ease in additon to making himself hard to kill.

  • Petros has a unique buff called the Irascible State. His ATK, C. DMG, and Counterattack Chance are increased, and he heals himself when he does damage based on the damage dealt. When casting an ability, he follows up with two pursuit attacks that deal guaranteed C. DMG based on the target's Max HP (up to a certain percentage of his own) and inflict a Stun that can't be resisted and won't miss.
  • Brute Force deals damage to an enemy based on a mix of Petros' ATK and Max HP. The lower the enemy's HP, the higher the damage, and this attack will always land critical hits.
  • Fearsome Fury is a passive ability. Enemies with low enough HP can't receive any beneficiary effects from their allies as long as Petros is alive. If an enemy's HP is lower than his, their ability effects won't work on him either. When Petros takes a hit, the Final Damage is decreased by a certain amount, and for every 1000HP gap between Petros and his attacker, it will be lowered further. When an enemy is at low enough HP, Petros enters Irascible mode, clearing his debuffs, healing himself, and gaining a bonus turn. This ability's cooldown cannot be manipulated.
  • Raging Bull hit an enemy twice, dealing damage based on a mix of Petros' ATK and Max HP. The lower the enemy's HP, the higher the damage, and this ability will always land critical hits. When ascended, he gains ATK Up and C. DMG Up.

  • Baritone of Strength: He has a very deep and growling voice, cementing him as someone you don't want to anger.
  • BFS: In his case, the S stands for saw, as he carts around a chainsaw nearly as big as he is.
  • Big Little Brother: Subverted. He views Zora as a big sister and is certainly taller than her, but it turns out he's the older one between the two (Petros is 23, Zora is 18).
  • Brutish Bulls: He's based on the Greek minotaur and can be very aggressive, though his anger stems from his traumatic past and fear of being hurt and he's pretty harmless otherwise. His ultimate ability is also named Raging Bull.
  • Chainsaw Good: His weapon is a very large chainsaw.
  • Cool Helmet: He wears a stone helmet with a large pair of bull horns. It also hides the top part of his face.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: After being severely injured in an indicent caused by the Super Miracle and being saved by a surgically-implemented mechanical structure, he was picked up by the very same sketchy lab disguised as an orphanage that took in Farrah. He wound up receiving his powers as part of his time as a test subject, and became erratic and aggressive as a result of losing himself and his mind because of how overwhelming his powers were. He was locked in an underground cage after the facility ran out of use for him, and never saw daylight until his old friend Farrah destroyed the place and freed him.
  • Dumb Muscle: By his own admission, he isn't very smart, and Xiao Yin managed to get him to admit defeat by outwitting him rather than beating him in a proper fight.
  • Family of Choice: He sees Graywater as his home and the rest of the Hunter's Guild as his family, and swears to protect them all with his life. His final career blurb implies that his bilogical family abandoned him.
  • Gentle Giant: At 210cm, he dethrones Jiang Jiuli for the title of largest Esper, and while he can certainly be dangerous, he's really a sweet guy with a Dark and Troubled Past, described as having the heart of a child.
  • Little Bit Beastly: A minor example compared to other Espers, but he has digitigrade legs instead of human ones.
  • Meaningful Name: "Petros" is the Greek word for "rock" or "stone", befitting a man who looks like he's made of it.
  • Mirror Character: To Amir, who he was released alongside. They're both Espers of divine bulls and have blue color schemes, horned headpieces, and bladed weapons. The main difference (aside from their sizes) is that Amir is a Mellow Fellow while Petros is prone to trauma-induced aggression.
  • Our Minotaurs Are Different: He has the divine powers of the Greek Minotaur, but he retains a mostly human appearance. He also has the brutal warrior thing going on, but most of his anger is a trauma response to his past as a test subject.
  • Rock Monster: Downplayed; he's human, but parts of his body are covered in stone, making him look like a robot or monster to passerby.
  • Trauma Button: After escaping the facility he'd been locked in, he encountered Xiao Yin and lashed out as a trauma response. Realizing that he was scared and not angry (and not wanting to actually fight him), Xiao Yin continuously outwitted Petros until he admitted defeat, at which point Xiao Yin managed to calm him down and take him back to Graywater.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He doesn't wear a shirt, exposing his impressive strength and the stone covering his body.
  • Younger Than They Look: You'd be forgiven for thinking he's an older guy due to his stature and growling voice, but he and Triki are actually the same age at 23 years old.

The Saunberts

"I kill to protect."

Voiced By: Melba Sibrel King (English), Yuu Ayase (Japanese), Kim Chaeha (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Rare
Role: Fighter

A young lady fiercely devoted into protecting her adoptive father Narmer, Abigail's adoptive niece. She is a fighter Esper who exploits debuffs on foes in order to deal more damage.

  • Beast Attack attacks an enemy twice, with each hit dealing damage based on Zelmer's ATK and a chance to inflict DEF Down.
  • Hunter attacks an enemy three times, each hit dealing damage based on Zelmer's ATK with a chance to transfer a debuff to the target. When ascended, if Zelmer lands a critical hit, she will inflict Bleed.
  • Scarlet Tides attacks an enemy, dealing damage based on Zelmer's ATK. If the target is debuffed, Zelmer does bonus damage based on how many debuffs they have.

  • Animal Motifs: The lioness. She is modeled after the Egyptian goddess of war Sekhmet, who was depicted as a lionness.
  • Anxiety Dreams: She has had recurring nightmares of losing her adoptive father Narmer, which has made her overly paranoid of his safety, until she came to the conclusion that it's best to protect him rather than to worry about it all the time.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: The main reason why she's so devoted to Narmer is because he is genuinely concerned and cares for her, believing that he didn't need to do what he did for her.
  • Brutal Honesty: Prefers to be as direct and blunt as possible interacting with others.
  • Daddy's Girl: Her love for her adoptive father is so strong that she's willing to kill if it will protect him.
  • Declaration of Protection: For Narmer. The Egyptian goddess Sekhmet was known to be protective to the pharaohs that she even continued to protect them after her death from the afterlife.
  • The Ghost: Although she is a playable Esper, you only know she's related to the Saunberts through her personal info. Outside of that, neither Narmer or Abigail make a mention of her, and despite her overprotective nature for Narmer, she doesn't tag along for his excursions into ruins.
  • Happily Adopted: By her adoptive father Narmer into the wealthy Saunbert family.
  • Kick Chick: Her main weapon is her feet, which are literally large lion feet geared up in greaves.
  • Little Bit Beastly: She has an lioness' tail and what's implied to be feline legs going by her shoes.

"It's perfect weather for exploring the Miracle."

Voiced By: Kieran Flitton (English), Show Hayami (Japanese), Kim Sol (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

One of the Esper Seven who were the first people to become Espers in Grandis. An enigmatic, wealthy socialite and current head of the Saunbert family. Deeply taken by mythology and history, he has made it his primary goal in life to reveal the truth behind the mysterious Miracles. He is Abigail's cousin and Zelmer's adoptive father.

  • Sunwheel attacks one enemy, dealing damage based on Narmer's ATK and applying ATK Up to himself for 2 turns.
  • Wheel of Fate is a passive ability that applies a stack of Burning Sun to Narmer at the start of each of his turns, +2 for each buff currently applied to him (max. 8 stacks). Burning Sun is an undispellable buff that increases the power of Emblazoned Strike. When ascended, he gets 2 stacks of Burning Sun at the start of his turn instead of 1.
  • Emblazoned Strike attacks all enemies, dealing damage based on Narmer's ATK and consuming all stacks of Burning Sun in the process. Each stack consumed increases the damage by 7%. When consuming 5 or more stacks, the attack ignores 40% of the target's DEF, and when consuming 8 stacks exactly, the ability's cooldown is reduced by 1 turn.

  • All There in the Manual: His status as a member of the Esper Seven was first confirmed in an old web event before being brought up in game.
  • Animal Motifs: His Cape Wings and mask make him resemble a bird, referencing the Egyptian sun god Ra, who was usually portrayed as a hawk or a falcon.
  • Bookworm: Reading is his favorite pasttime when he's not exploring, and he has a massive personal library full of books on mythology and history.
  • Cape Wings: The top layer of his cape can become a functional pair of large wings.
  • Meaningful Name: "Narmer" is the name of the man widely credited with uniting Egypt and becoming its first pharoah, and it's also one of the oldest names ever recorded. Certainly fits a historian with the powers of one of the most famous Egyptian gods.
  • Retired Badass: He's one of the Esper Seven and a former member of the Esper Union, but left the organization after becoming weary of the divides and human conflicts within it, as he believed that humanity needed to unite as one in order to combat the Miracles. While he prefers to research and explore on his own time, he isn't against helping his old allies when the time calls, such as assisting the Union with the Raya tablets and the Chaos Miracle Expedition by personally bringing a completed Raya tablet as well as recruiting both Roy and Zi He for the journey. When Amir meets him in Dawn of Darkness: Part 2 and freaks out over meeting a member of the Esper Seven, Narmer brushes him off and tells him that he's just an ordinary archaeologist.

    Abigail Saunbert (Frigga)

"Roses, money, or power... I'll have whatever I want."
Wave Maker

Voiced By: Lisa Suliteanu (English), Kanna Nakamura (Japanese), Kim Bo-na (English)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Support

The ambitious head of the Saunbert family, mayor of Utgard, Narmer's cousin, and Zelmer's adoptive aunt. Under this lady's professional air, she hides a conniving streak in her ties with the underworld to ensure she stays in power both in wealth and politics.

  • Thorny Brambles deals damage to an enemy based on Abigail's ATK. It also heals Abigail for a certain percentage of her max HP, while putting the target to sleep.
  • Rose Blessing dispells all debuffs from Abigail and gives her Recovery. It also grants all allies DEF Up as well as a shield with health based on Abigail's max HP and the allies' lost HP. The cooldowns for all ally Inferno Espers (except Abigail herself) are reset.
  • Queen's Gift increases an ally's AP. If the ally is dead, they will be revived and then healed for a percentage of their max HP, and when ascended, if the ally is alive, the ability's cooldown is decreased. All allies will also gain ATK Up and C. DMG Up.

  • Action Girl: The animated opening depicts her using gymnastic skills to fight back with her vines.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Of the Ruler's Law event. Hell, she even gets to have a special opening intro whenever the game is booted up during the event; an honor she debuts with.
  • Big Good: In the second story mode, she opposes Gaius's wish to get rid of all humans and keep Espers around. Since she is a businesswoman, though, she's only doing it in a business point of view. At least she cares.
  • Body Horror: Like Jiang Man, she has a flower growing out of her left eye. However, it looks less like a bodily abnormality because it runs up to her head as if she was wearing a unique headband.
  • Cutscene Power to the Max: In her special character video, she single-handedly deals with a band of thugs all by herself. In-game, however, she's supposed to support her allies, as she lacks offensive power.
  • Dramatic Irony: During the Ruler's Law event, she tries her best to gain the public's favor to remain as Utgard's mayor by investing into her weapons division by having Luca continue with his Esper-boosting research. His research ends up causing quite a stir in Utgard by the crazed Espers relying on his prototypes, forcing Abigail to seek other measures to protect the people and even rely on the Esper Union to arrest Jin Yuyao and putting a definite stop to Abigail's scheme to streghtening her weapons division. Instead of facing the consequences, it turns out that her heroics during the event caused the public to support her that she ended up winning the elections by a landslide.
  • False Friend:
    • She was Jin Yuyao's closest friend until Jin's financial difficulties allowed Abigail's family to seize all of Jin's unclaimed assets. What happened was that Jin's father had bought a lot of Nexus Crystals that, at the time, were considered worthless and hazardous, until she asked Abigail to help by buying it all at a cheaper price than what Jin's father had bought it, not realizing that the worth of Nexus Crystals was far higher than Jin had realized that allowed Abigail to amass a fortune and create her own weapon factory division.
    • During the Ruler's Law event, after Alexa is kidnapped, she decides to toss her away because Jin Yuyao's offer would be extremely damaging financially to Abigail. However, it turned out that Alexa used body language to convey where she was kidnapped and exploited Jin's hatred for Abigail to lure her into a trap while Abigail went to personally rescue Alexa.
  • Green Thumb: Her Esper powers are based on the rose, related to the Asgardian goddess of marriage Frigga.
  • Hidden Depths: The end of one of her bounty stories reveals that as a child she wanted to be a pilot, but was unable to qualify due to her left eye being blind. After playing in a flight simulator during the opening of a science museum, she indulges herself in her wishes to be a pilot and feels like she's finally fulfilled her childhood dream.
  • Hypocrite: Jin Yuyao (and to a lesser extent Odette) calls her this to her face when Abigail has changed to caring about people rather than her finances and political influence, unlike how shrewd she used to be when she had scammed Jin and her family.
  • No Last Name Given: Averted. Just like House Ramses's Espers, she has a last name shown.
  • Older Than She Looks: Despite being 35, she looks incredibly young. One of her bounty stories has her get mistaken for a child by an Evening Sounds bouncer, and then mistaken for Celine's daughter when the latter takes Abigail out to dinner as an apology for the bouncer incident. She attempts to fix this issue by changing her makeup to appear older and buying some high heeled shoes to look taller.
  • Something about a Rose: She has a very heavy rose motif. Not only do roses adorn her outfit, but she sits on a floating chair made of roses and even has them growing out of her eye. Her powers involve a lot of rose petals and rose thorns, and her theme song is called Reine de Roses (Queen of Roses in English).
  • Tabloid Melodrama: She had a bad experience eating at a top-reviewed restaurant on Gulp, where she ate the food served but found it disgusting. At the same time, she was being photographed by paparazzi who went on to provide tabloids with the scoop that Abigail had horrible taste in food. She does turn this around when she finds the food of a soon-to-close food stall very good and she allows herself to be seen by paparazzi in order to indirectly promote all food stalls from staying afloat from bankruptcy.

The Golden City

Led by Alexa, this is Utgard's most luxurious casino, which has powerful ties to Utgard's political government.

    Alexa (Aphrodite) / (Meta Aphrodite)

"Popularity isn't all it's cracked up to be."

Voiced By: Elissa Park (Base), Tamara Ryan (Meta) (English), Aoi Yūki (Base), Ichika Toyama (Meta) (Japanese), Rhee Yong Sin (Base), Noh Yu-jin (Meta) (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Epic (Base), Legendary (Meta)
Role: Support (Base), Controller (Meta)

The master of the Mirror Palace and the Golden City, close friend to Abigail Saunbert. She is a support Esper who can heal her allies and perform counterattacks that hamper enemies' survivability.

  • Brilliance deals damage while having a chance to lower their accuracy.
  • Phantasia Balances all allied Espers' HP ratios. If an ally has the Kiss of the Nightingale buff, it restores 20% of their max HP. When ascended, she'll also dispel a debuff from all her allies, and heal them if successful.
  • Kiss of the Nightingale grants an ally with a buff that returns 75% of the damage they receive back to the opponent and dispels a buff from them at the beginning of their turn.

  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: In Ruler's Law, while Jin Yuyao shows Alexa to Abigail through her communicator, Alexa says that she's covered in bruises, has a bloodied mouth and bruised legs. Yet, her sprite only has a couple of bruises on her face (and in the fully illustrated scene in 2-6, more bruises can be seen on her body) and doesn't look too badly beat up otherwise.
  • Beneath the Mask: Befriending Biondina was what allowed Alexa to finally lower her guard down and share her true feelings with someone...until Alexa started to become toxic and controlling towards her, causing the two women to part ways after a conflict. The result was Alexa going back to Becoming the Mask.
  • Crazy-Prepared: When the player tries to get her to get Abigail's good graces and gain entry to Raine Tundra, Tevor attempts to Blackmail her with her secret hobby as a famous internet romantic novelist, except she expected the fact to be used against her eventually, so she sucked up her pride and revealed the embarrassing fact prior.
  • Deuteragonist: Of Ruler's Law, where she serves as an assissant to Abigail.
  • Femme Fatale: She uses her alluring good looks to force men into letting their guard down and get their darkest secrets exposed.
  • Foil: Her third careers entry notes that Biondina's honest and easy-going manner were attributes that made her Alexa's polar opposite.
  • Hidden Depths: In the second story mode, it's revealed that she is a very well-known internet novelist for romantic stories; something she's so embarrassed of.
  • Hostage Situation: During Ruler's Law, Alexa gets kidnapped after the Shadow Decree ambush on Abigail's new factory. She is then used as a bargaining chip by Jin Yuyao in order to make negotations with Abigail.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She has a ridiculously large chest, sits in an alluring pose with her legs crossed, and has a sultry attitude. She also seduces people with her beauty and affectionate words and managed to get their darkest secrets. Justified that it comes with hosting Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: An animation variant. When an Esper dies on the field, they fade out into a bunch of glitchy pink sparkles. Alexa doesn't do this, however, instead spinning around in place until she shrinks down and disappears. It's never been explained why she does this, and no other Esper has done it since.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Alexa presents herself as an empty-headed ditz with a welcoming smile while in reality she is a cunning and patient woman with good listening abilities that'll achevie her goals and trick people into confessing their deepest secrets to her.
  • Parental Abandonment: She was abandoned as a baby but was raised by dancers.
  • The Starscream: It's revealed in the Immortal Fire event that Alexa was once a personal assistant to Nicholas but unbeknownst to anyone she was actually spying for Abigail. Abigail promised her total ownership of the Golden City in exchange for information on Nicholas' operations. However, Alexa ends up becoming the new owner not through her spying, but rather because Nicholas got killed by Mateo after revealing how dangerous Nicholas would be to be in any position of power at Utgard.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: She considered Biondina to be her true friend until the toxic behavior started to come from Alexa, trying to control Biondina to always be by her side. Sick of the treatment, Biondina deserted Alexa after a conflict.
  • True Companions:
    • Formerly with Biondina before their falling out.
    • With Abigail, which is what stuck.

Alexa (Meta Aphrodite)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/meta_alexa.png
"I don't hide my ambitions, you just have to reach my level to see it."

After sucessfully undergoing a Miracle Trial, Alexa has gained a boost in her Esper powers. She is now a Controller Esper who whittles away enemy HP with her Charm debuff.

  • Meta Alexa introduces the Charm debuff, forcing its carrier to attack the caster at the start of their turn and take 50% of the damage from it. If they don't attack by the end of their turn, they take damage based on the caster's Max HP, which ignores DEF, can't miss or crit, and extend's Charm's duration.
  • Intimate Strike damages an enemy based on Alexa's ATK and inflicts Charm.
  • Lucent Dirge is a passive ability that makes Alexa immune to Taunt or Charm. When she takes a hit or uses Hollow Kiss, she increases the damage her target takes. If she sustains a fatal hit, she dispels her debuffs, restores her Max HP ceiling (unless it's been lowered by a boss), and drains the HP of her teammates to heal herself, stopping only when she's been fully healed or if her teammates are all left at one HP. Then, she dispels all enemy buffs without fail, damages them based on her Max HP (ignoring DEF and unable to miss or crit), and inflicts Charm.
  • Hollow Kiss damages all enemies based on Alexa's ATK and inflicts Charm. When ascended, she also dispels their buffs.

  • Heart Symbol: Being the Esper of the Greek goddess of love, it's only natural that her Meta form's design incorporates these. Even the blade of her new whip sword is made up entirely of heart shapes.
  • History Repeats: Like how she acted with Biondina, Alexa becomes overbearing on poor Ginny during the All Hallows Eve event after she turns down Ginny's candy idea for something else in hopes to winning the competition.
  • Jerkass: In the All Hallows Eve event, she makes it rather clear to Ginny that she doesn't care much about making the orphaned children happy because she has no memories of her own family to feel any empathy for them. She'd rather just win the competition to expand the Golden City's influence.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Her ridiculously large chest is more pronounced than in her base form now that she's not sitting this time.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Her new outfit has more pink colors than usual, making her come across as a walking tribute to her friend Abigail.

"D-did you need something?"

Voiced By: Chloe Mei-li Bundt (English), Ichika Toyama (Japanese), Noh Yu-jin (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Support

A clumsy maid of the Golden City. She is a support Esper who assists Espers under Stealth effects with her unique Eclipser buff.

  • Yorana has the following unique effects.
    • Eclipser gives her Stealth and increases the damage of the teammate she's following.
    • Tea Break stacks up to five times, with each stack reducing the chance of taking critical hits. When his with a dispelling, stealing, or AP Down effect, one stack will be consumed to nullify it.
  • Tailslash damages an enemy three times based on Yorana's Max HP. If the teammate she's following takes action outside of their turn, she launches a Pursuit on the enemy with the lowest HP. When ascended, she also inflicts Sear.
  • On Call is a passive ability. At the start of battle she will follow the Stealthed teammate with the highest ATK, gaining Eclipser. If the teammate dies, Eclipser is removed, and if there's no teammate to follow before her turn starts, she selects a new one.
  • Perfect Show randomly dispels a debuff from a random ally five times, then gives two stacks of Tea Break to all Stealthed allies and extends the duration of their buffs by one turn. Then Yorana attacks all enemies based on her Max HP, inflicting ATK Down and C. RATE Down.

  • Animal Motifs: The weasel, referencing the Japanese Yokai she's based on.
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: Being a kamaitachi, she has a blade at the end of her tail that she attacks with.
  • The Klutz: As shown in her character animations. In fact, her third ability Perfect Show has her clumsily smashing the enemy with her broom.
  • Meido: She's a cute, clumsy, pink weasel maid girl in a frilly outfit.
  • Odd Name Out: She's the only Japanese Esper with a non-Japanese name, with "Yorana" being Hebrew in origin. The Japanese dub calls her "Yoarashi" instead.

    Ginny (Hestia)

"Woah! Hey, calm down. Don't scare away the customers!"

Voiced By: Nola Klop (English), Nana Hamasaki (Japanese), Kim A-rong (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

The head chef of the Golden City with a boundless passion for her craft. She is a Fighter Esper who is proficient in tanking, self-healing, and single target control.

  • Ginny has two unique buffs. They are...
    • Intense Heat, which increases her damage for every 20 ATK gap between her and her target. When she's hit, she heals herself for a portion of her lost HP, and then deals True Damage based on her ATK per stack of this buff. Each stack of this buff increases her ATK.
    • Chef's Zest, which increases her ATK and chance to counterattack, and expires after she does the latter. If she gains a duplicate stack of this, she gains ATK Up instead.
  • Double Fire deals damage to an enemy based on Ginny's ATK. She inflicts Taunt, which can't be resisted if the target has no buffs, and cannot crit with this attack.
  • Simmer Flame dispells all of Ginny's debuffs. If she has three stacks of Intense Heat, she gains Chef's Zest, otherwise she just gains a stack of Intense Heat. She also gets a stack of Intense Heat at the start of combat.
  • Stir-Fry Heat hits an enemy five times, dealing damage based on Ginny's ATK. Each hit steals a buff and the last one inflicts Taunt, which can't be resisted if the target has no buffs. Ginny heals herself for a portion of the HP she's lost, and this attack cannot crit. When ascended, if her target has no buffs to steal, this ability's cooldown is decreased by 2 turns.

  • Anime Hair: Bright pink with six total braids (4 in the back, 2 in the front) and bangs that swoop upwards.
  • Like Brother and Sister: She and Alexa grew close and began to view each other as sisters after Alexa came into power and Ginny joined her staff. Alexa used to eat at Ginny's parents' restaurant and was always cheered up by their food even when she was feeling down, and Ginny loves making Alexa smile with her cooking, unable to understand why others are afraid of her.
  • Living Weapon: The cooking pot she sits on and attacks with is sentient and has a face.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Ginny has no idea about Alexa's possessive attitude with people because Alexa's treatment of her doesn't warrant her trying to force Ginny to follow her orders, unlike how Alexa drove Biondina away. This becomes horribly defied during the All Hallows Eve competition when Alexa is unwilling to go with Ginny's candy idea and scolds her for it, causing a rift to appear between both of them.
  • Nice Girl: She dislikes seeing people go hungry, especially during an event when she served people affected by Miramon attacks with food that reminded them of their hometowns to cheer them up.
  • Supreme Chef: She's the head chef of the Golden City, who has traveled to every corner of Grandis to improve her dishes and awakened her Esper powers in the process, which have only enhanced her cooking.

Voiced By: Alexis Kubin (English), Kiyoka Suko (Japanese), Lee Da-eun (Korean)

Rarity: Epic
Role: Controller

A wanderer from the eastern continent who can easily empathize with others but worries others by her flighty mind. Secretary to the detective agency. Parmi is the first Esper empowered by a Mesopotamian God to be added to the playable roster.

  • Dreambell Curve deals damage to an enemy based on Parmi's ATK, and gives Recovery to the ally with the lowest HP percentage.
  • Pipedream Echo deals damage to all enemies based on Parmi's ATK. Each point of SPD deals extra damage, also based on ATK. All enemies get an AP reduction and there is a chance to inflict ATK Down. When ascended, Parmi does extra damage to incapacitated enemies.
  • Fantasy Crater deals damage to all enemies based on Parmi's ATK. Each point of SPD deals extra damage, also based on ATK. This attack also has a chance to stun.

  • Breaking Old Trends: She is the first Esper of a Mesopotamian God, rather than one of Dislyte's standard four mythologies (Greek, Norse, Egyptian, and Chinese).
  • Deuteragonist: In Return, Dreaming, she assists Tevor in his task to find out why Farrah became comatose, with Parmi taking more focus while diving into Farrah's dreams.
  • Dream Weaver: Her powers allow her to construct any dreams to put into people.
  • Gone Horribly Right: When Tevor comes to a dead end trying to solve a murder case that would seriously boost his agency's popularity and his only witness is the victim's son who went mute from shock, Parmi offers to soothe the boy's trauma with a dream of his mother encouraging to be strong and speak up. Thanks to the boy telling Tevor the clues he needed to find and arrest the murderer, the agency is prominently displayed on the first page of all newspapers. The problem is, Pamir's dream services become the whole reason people go to the agency and request her powers for selfish reasons rather than detective work.
Tevor (lying on a pile of files): This is NOT what I had in mind!
  • Instant Expert: She learns one of Tevor's detective moves to try to help a woman find her lost dog using her husband's body language, seemingly learning that the man turned out to have been so drunk and let the door open for the dog to flee by accident. Though she apparently did a good job, she completely couldn't understand why the woman ran out screaming at her husband.
  • The Klutz: She's clumsy, with her appearance often causing little accidents in the agency.
  • Little Bit Beastly: She has cow horns, ears, and a tail, a reference to how Ninsun, the mother of Gilgamesh, was also the goddess of wild cows.
  • Manic Pixie Dream Girl: Energetic and full of life, which is met by her clumsiness and flighty mind.
  • The Social Expert: It's second nature for her to make many friendships with many people because she's always seeing the positive side of things, which can greatly constrast Tevor's policy on honesty and Intisar's bluntness.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Tea, her favorite being milk tea. She's also very adept on making brand new tea flavors that she saved a once-poor tea business from going bankrupt (it liked to be flashy with its cups rather than preserving tea's flavor being bogged down by the decorations of the cup).

    Intisar (Kauket)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/intisar_kauket.png
"With the right information, you can control anything."

Voiced By: Aimee Smith (English), Aino Shimada (Japanese), Park Yi-seo (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

A genius hacker from Utgard who yearns for her freedom and has absolute faith in her hacking skills. Moving forward within the shadows, she has discarded her immaturity and complacency she once had. Technology consultant for the agency. She is a fighter Esper who can gain Stealth and inflict debuffs on one enemy.

  • Code Exploit deals damage to an enemy based on Intisar's ATK, and has a chance to inflict MISS RATE UP.
  • Trojan Horse deals damage to all enemies based on Intisar's ATK, and does more damage if there are less enemies on the field. It extends enemy debuffs (save for incapacitations) and she'll gain Stealth at the start of combat.
  • Transmit Virus deals damage to an enemy based on Intisar's ATK and hits multiple times, inflicting DEF Down. Then, it damages all enemies based on ATK while inflicting ATK Down. Intisar will gain Stealth, and if she already has it, she'll reduce its duration in exchange for dealing extra True Damage while attacking. Depending on her target's type, her attacks will deal damage based on the target's Max HP (can only be triggered a certain amount of times per turn). When ascended, Intisar will also gain ATK Up.

  • Animal Motifs: The snake, which represents the Egyptian goddess Kauket.
  • Bittersweet Ending: By the end of Evening Glimmer, she blows her chance to clear her name by choosing to save Tevor from being shot dead by Gordon over letting the security system function by blowing it up. Though she has no way to prove her innocence, a thankful Tevor decides to "hire" her as a technology consultant at his agency to give her food and shelter for free to keep her safe from authorities, which she gratefully signs on for.
  • Birds of a Feather: She adores the Samurai Flower series, of which Li Guang is also a huge fan of and happened to be Intisar's anonymous forum friend until finding out themselves in person.
  • Challenge Seeker: She enjoys breaking through security programs and beating hard video games. On the subject on the latter, she will stubbornly try to beat video games tailored to be lost no matter how unlikely they are to be beaten using just her natural gaming skills without trying to make them easier with her hacking skills.
  • Clear My Name: In her debut event Evening Glimmer, she's falsely accused of killing a fellow programmer for the Golden City's security program. The other two people involved in the creation of the security program are also being targeted, as they are the only ones beside her who have a chance of learning that the security program is secretly housing a hidden weapon program that they didn't create.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Stars in the Evening Glimmer event, focusing on her quest to clear her name of a murder she didn't commit but was framed for.
  • Floating Limbs: In a cutscene from Evening Glimmer where she’s taken off her coat, her right elbow is entirely missing, and her arm is held together by some kind of snake shaped jewelry. How this happened or how her arm is able to function like this is currently unknown.
  • Gamer Chick: One of her favorite hobbies is video games. Notably, although she likes hacking and breaking programs in two, she will never attempt to break a game due to her code of honor for them.
  • Head Pet: What was once believed to be a fancy hat was actually revealed to be a living giant ass snake biting onto her head that doubles as a makeshift helmet for her to run her hacking skills. She doesn't seem disturbed in the least.
  • Hikikomori: Non-depressive example. She stylizes herself as one because she mostly sees no point in interacting in person with people if it's just easier to contact them through the internet. Also, as long as she has soda and food, she finds no need to go outside for long.
  • Jerkass: Zigzagged. She and Tevor have a falling out of their deal to work together because Tevor is more concerned about making sure that Jenni - the other programmer next to Intisar and the other two being targeted for having a chance to learn about the hidden weapon program - is safe and sound during the Golden City masquerade party than Intisar believing that it may be a trap to lure them out rather than heading for the security program to secure the real footage of the murder. Defied later when she saves Tevor's life over trying to secure the footage she needs to clear her name.
  • Meaningful Name: "Intisar" is an Arabic name meaning "victory" or "triumph", befitting one of the best hackers in Utgard.
  • Playful Hacker: She's a genius hacker and she compares her hacking to playing games in the trailer for Evening Glimmer.
  • Race Lift: While running against the Fatum Sisters to see whom of them would release first, her skin tone was noticeably darker than how lighter it is now. Humorously, the players who voted and got her avatar as a gift still have proof of that.
  • Rule of Symbolism: She heavily runs with her connection to the Egyptian goddess Kauket, who was known for having a snake for a head and ruled the darkness with her husband Kek. Other than the facts she's not married and is a hacker, she fits Kauket's mythology to a T.

    Tevor (Sphinx)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tevor_sphinx.png
"One can learn as much from lies as from truth."

Voiced By: Mike Previti (English), Tomokazu Seki (Japanese), Seo Jung-ik (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

Got a case that needs solving? Can't find the right person to do it? Look no further, for expert Utgard sleuth Tevor is on the case! He is a fighter Esper who can exploit his exclusive Neko-Sense buff on enemies and use his Neko-Analysis passive for special effects.

  • Tevor has a unique buff called Neko-Sense. It increases his C. DMG and significantly lowers his chance of taking a critical hit from an enemy. At the start of his turn, Neko-Sense resets all of Tevor's ability cooldowns.
  • Uncovered Truth deals damage to an enemy based on Tevor's ATK while also inflicting Sear.
  • Neko-Analysis is a passive ability. At the start of his turn, the enemies with the highest ATK, DEF, and Max HP are marked separately. Tevor's attacks ignore DMG Mitigation effects, and causes his own effects when hitting a marked target. When killing the highest ATK target, he deals Overkill Damage to all enemies, attacking the highest DEF target will have him ignore a chunk of that DEF, and he deals True Damage when attacking the target with the highest Max HP. When killing a marked target, he gains a stack of Neko-Sense, and an enemy killed by him cannot be revived. When ascended, he also gets a stack of Neko-Sense at the start of combat.
  • Neko-Giftbox dispells all of an enemy's buffs and absorbs all their AP. Then, Tevor attacks them, dealing damage based on his ATK.

  • Animal Motifs: The Egyptian sphinx, which is mostly depicted with the body of a lion. Tevor himself is more associated with cats, especially with the word "neko" (the Japanese word for cat) being prominent in the names of his abilities.
  • Artwork and Game Graphics Segregation: His mugshot (shown here in this page) is the one used for cutscene shots. The one used for non-cutscenes and battles is different because his eyes are more cat-like and his face is less fluffy-looking. It gets more complicated later on during Valeria's update when his mugshot is yet again updated to look closer to his battle model.
  • Brutal Honesty: As he dislikes "white lies" (he doesn't understand their concept) as much as bigger lies, he believes that the truth is more important than someone's feelings, which makes him come across as a little heartless.
  • Contrived Coincidence: He happens to bump into Intisar at a supermarket while she was shoplifting some food and on the run from authorities. From there, Intisar has no choice but to team up with him to clear her name.
  • Determinator: Whenever he feels that he's close to solving a case, his focus will remain solely on solving said case that he will even ignore eating or sleeping until its conclusion. His nosiness becomes annoying to people, as he also forgoes social etiquette.
  • Deuteragonist:
    • Of the Evening Glimmer event, trying to solve a mystery that leads him to looking into Intisar herself.
    • Also for the Sea of Sorrow event, aiding Tang Xuan into looking into the assassin organization "The Crows" on a luxury ship.
    • He becomes this for the second half of Warm Winter, revealing himself to be the same cat that appeared with Hilda during Endless Summer.
    • And once more becomes this in Return, Dreaming, being hired by Gaius to find out why Farrah has become comatose.
    • And yet again in Cherry Blossoms, though arguably, he's the protagonist.
  • Forced Transformation: Outside his Esper transformation, he gets turned into a simple black cat in Endless Summer and Warm Winter due to entering Lian's dream.
  • Heroic BSoD: He lost his family for unknown reasons, which led him to become sort of an emotionless robot to people, learning that honesty is the best policy.
  • Law Versus Chaos: He once contemplated joining the Esper Union, until he reasoned that people needed an Esper superhero to uncover the truth without taking sides. Thus, he chose neutrality.
  • Meaningful Appearance: His hat has curved horns going up, which are actually the sides of a sphinx's headdress.
  • Morph Weapon: His magnifying glass can assume a small form for him to hold or become large enough and float for him to ride on in battle.
  • My Instincts Are Showing:
    • As he's a cat, catnip is very effective to put him in a daze, which Ethan exploits to feel his paws without resistance. Tevor is not pleased at all.
    • Invoked in the Evening Glimmer event when he's forced to go through a cat door to escape from the Golden City.
  • My Nayme Is: His name gets pronounced as “Trevor” during the last cutscene from Evening Glimmer, but it’s only spelled with one R.
  • Recurring Extra: Next to Tang Xuan, Tevor appears in a lot of story events mostly as a Deuteragonist.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: He really fancies himself a superb detective and shows off during the second story mode that his skills will help the player and Sachiko get through the Golden Casino's Draw & Guess games, but not only is he a terrible artist, but he tends to overthink things trying to guess from simple drawings that don't mean so much from two people who aren't really erudite.
  • Smug Snake: Invoked. While trying to figure out that Aurelius's girlfriend was actually a male scammer, he occassionally flashes silly grins, as if he's enjoying the fact he's disraveling what it's to him an easy case confusing the poor Aurelius.
  • Team Pet: Invoked in the Sea of Sorrow event. Tang Xuan tries to pass him off as his pet as an excuse for bringing him in without a ticket to the luxury ship. Tevor, not pleased with the idea, decides to annoy Tang Xuan by meowing for a bit.

All-Trades Agency

An agency that acts as a less restricted Marshal group that provides help in its own unique ways in the Lower City, founded by Emma and Ethan together.

    Emma (Jade Rabbit)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emma_04.png
"My dweam? To smash criminals flat!!"

Voiced By: Madison Lee (English), Wakana Minami (Japanese), Park Si-yoon (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Epic
Role: Fighter

A Marshal from Lower City in Tangton with a strong sense of justice and a stronger desire to whack criminals with her pestle. She is a Fighter Esper who can stun foes and works well with Heng Yue.

  • Emmma has two unique buffs in her arsenal. They are...
    • Grumpy, which increases her attack by a small amount per stack. Stacks up to ten times.
    • Wonder Juice, which she gains upon reaching Resonance 2 and if Heng Yue is on her team. When Emma has this buff and dies, she is revived with full health and full stacks of Grumpy.
  • Bumping Bash deals damage to an enemy based on Emma's ATK and has a chance to stun them.
  • Twirling Thrash is a passive ability. When one of Emma's teammates takes a hit, she has a chance to counterattack. If this teammate is Heng Yue, the chance is much greater. This counterattack hits the target three times, dealing damage based on Emma's ATK, and each hit has a chance to stun. When ascended, if Emma stuns an enemy with this attack, her AP increases.
  • Stomping Smash attacks all enemies, dealing damage based on Emma's ATK. If an enemy is stunned, Emma ignores some of their DEF. For every teammate who takes a hit, Emma gains a stack of Grumpy. When she gets ten stacks, she consumes them all to dispell all of her debuffs and perform a pursuit attack with this ability.

  • Beast Man: Emma's divine powers turned her into a small rabbit girl, similar to Tevor or Brewster.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She was mentioned in Ethan's backstory as the co-founder of All-Trades Agency long before becoming playable.
  • Knight Templar: She has a very strict and violent way of justice (like chasing down a litterer and causing destruction in her wake), which rubbed her superiors the wrong way, making them relocate her to the Lower City. It took her a while to understand that she needed to avoid using force (though she's still more than happy to smack someone down with her pestle).
  • Killer Rabbit: Her little cute appearance hides a violent bunny capable of causing chaos.
  • Moon Rabbit: The most literal example, as she's based on the Jade Rabbit that accompanies Chang'e on the moon while making divine medicines. Even her weapon is a giant pestle, the tool that the rabbit uses to make elixirs.
  • Odd Name Out: She's the only Chinese Esper to have a distincly non-Chinese name.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Despite her connections with Ethan, it's Heng Yue who makes Twirling Thrash more effective and gives an R2 Emma the Wonder Juice buff if they're in the party together. This is because of the mythological figures they're based on; Heng Yue being Chang'e and Emma being Chang'e's bunny companion. However, these two have yet to be seen interacting in story events.
  • Shout-Out: Emma's astronaut getup is a likely nod to Yutu and Yutu-2, a pair of Chinese moon rovers named after the Jade Rabbit. It could also reference the Apollo 11 mission, where mission control jokingly told the astronauts to watch out for Chang'e and her bunny while on the moon.
  • Theme Naming: All of her ability names follow the same pattern; a verb, then a word that starts with the same letter as the verb and ends in "ash".

    Ethan (Pan)

"Ah! It's so sunny today, perfect for some mischief."

Voiced By: Tareek Talati (English), Motoki Takagi (Japanese), Lee Sang-ho (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Support

A mischief-loving street performer and co-founder of the All-Trades Talent Agency in Tangton, Ethan uses his powers and his trusty accordion music to work with animals and pull pranks. He is a Support Esper armed with unique status effects to mess with his foes.

  • All of Ethan’s abilities involve the use of either a unique buff or a unique debuff among his arsenal. They are…
    • Magic Tune, a buff. It increases both Critical Hit Rate and Damage, reduces the chance of receiving a Critical Hit, and increases SPD.
    • Panic Gaze, a debuff. When an enemy with Panic Gaze uses a basic ability, it removes Magic Tune from the targeted teammate (unmissable and can’t be resisted) and deals True Damage to the enemy based on their Max HP. This will not kill the enemy, and this damage is reduced against bosses. If the enemy casts a non-basic ability or dies, Panic Gaze is removed from the entire enemy party and their ability cooldowns are extended (unmissable and can’t be resisted).
  • Chaos Sound deals damage to an enemy based on Ethan’s ATK and has a chance to reduce the target’s AP. If the target has Panic Gaze, they become stunned, and if Ethan has Magic Tune, the effects from this attack cannot be resisted.
  • Joyful Delights attacks all enemies three times, dealing damage based on Ethan’s ATK. Each hit has a chance of inflicting DEF Down, and all enemies become inflicted with Panic Gaze.
  • Enchanting Song grants Magic Tune and Immunity to all allies. When ascended, if Ethan has Magic Tune and an enemy receives an AP boost, Ethan gains a percentage of the boost for himself.

  • The Beastmaster: Uses his music to command a variety of animals, though this is not a part of his in-game kit.
  • Fauns and Satyrs: Ethan is a satyr, in reference to the god Pan who was also one.
  • The Gadfly: Loves being mischievous and joking around. In the Pan’s Band update trailer, he’s seen playing his accordion to get various animals to cause havoc in the streets.
  • Kind Hearted Cat Lover: He's got very good knowledge in taking care of cats and uses that to his advantage to give tips to other cat owners (though he passes all of this as "Cat Divination" to get money out of the public).
  • Magic Music: Ethan plays his tricked out accordion to fight, as well as to command animals.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: While he interacts with animals of all kinds, he’s consistently followed around by a fluffy, one-eyed, cat-like creature.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: His agency (and himself) is this to Tevor's Lakspur Agency, as Ethan's agency likes to help people with problems and Tevor abhors Ethan making fun of his cat-like qualities. In Swiftspace, Tevor himself takes shots at Ethan's agency by mentioning how people could just go to Tevor's agency for an actual cat helping them out.
  • Street Musician: Listed in his profile as his occupation.
  • Young and in Charge: He’s already co-founded a talent agency with a friend, and he’s only 21.

Twilight Order

An assassin organization, led by Yamato. Formerly known as The Crows until the events of Sea of Sorrow.

    Yamato (Izanagi)

"Among people, who isn't hiding a struggle behind a mask?"

Voiced by: Jack Oliver (English), Yuki Terui (Japanese), Gong Joon-ho (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Defender

A conniving young man and brother to Yuuhime. He was once known as Shouta. He and his sister were the surviving children of their wealthy family from Geran City, but then became members of The Crows. Initially an NPC and event boss, he was made playable in the version after his debut. He is a Defender Esper who can use his unique Rashomon buff in a variety of ways.

  • Yamato has a unique buff called Rashomon, which increases his CRIT RESIST, ATK, and DEF. Once per turn, he will consume a stack of it to increase his AP when he is attacked.
  • Death Grasp attacks an enemy twice, dealing damage based on Yamato's ATK and DEF. Each hit has a chance to stun the target.
  • Thunder Surge attacks all enemies three times, dealing damage based on Yamato's ATK and DEF. Each hit has a chance to inflict Buff Blocker. If Yamato has Rashomon, he consumes all his stacks of it to deal True Damage, based on his DEF and increasing with each stack. When ascended, he absorbs some of the target's AP and evenly distributes it to his team, and the True Damage part of the attack will no longer consume his stacks of Rashomon.
  • Abyssal Crossing is a passive ability. At the start of a round, Yamato gains Rashomon stacks based on the number of surviving allied Defender Espers in the party, and if Yuuhime's in the team, he gains four more. This gaining of Rashomon also happens at the start of Yamato's turn if he doesn't have any Rashomon and works in the same way, plus he will give Yuuhime a bonus turn if she's in the party. When consuming Rashomon, the DEF of allied Defender Espers and the ATK of allied Fighter Espers are permanently increased.

  • Big Brother Instinct: The exact details on this are really muddy. He truly believes that having control of his own sister through the music box is a way to keep her safe from harm. Then there's the ambiguity that was setting Javid free to deal with the Raging Lion under the pretext that it was to keep Yuuhime safe despite her not being involved in the Sands of Guilt event.
  • Big, Thin, Short Trio: The Thin to Yuuhime's Short and Moroyama's Big.
  • Brainwashing: As he's a member of The Crows, he is brainwashed to serve the organization against his will except he isn't brainwashed. To nullify the effect of the music box controlling its members, he injured his own ears since the burning of his home and has pretended to be brainwashed in order to catch Kokuzan off-guard and have Yuuhime kill him.
  • The Chessmaster:
    • He outmaneuvered Kokuzan's brainwashing by rendering himself deaf from its music and plotted to have Kokuzan use the music box too many times to weaken its hold on Yuuhime for her to kill him and then gain control of her actions through using the music box.
    • He then proceeded to set Javid free from Mylo Prison to deal with the Raging Lion and the Withering Miracle as an effort to apparently keep Yuuhime safe, but actually to learn that an artifact like the Lion's Heart can be used to amplify Esper powers.
    • In the second story mode, he's the driving force who brought the player to the Esper Union. His ultimate plan is to see the world reborn through someone using the Gate of Promotion, using the player - the lock - to control others to act.
  • Cool Mask: Occasionally wears a tattered hannya mask that only has one eye left, but still looks pretty cool and adds to his "everyone hides behind a mask" philosophy.
  • Evil All Along: Though he planned to set Yuuhime free from Kokuzan's control, it was all a ploy for him to get the music box and gain control of Yuuhime for himself. It looks like he considered to do this ever since he was younger.
  • Given Name Reveal: Sea of Sorrow reveals that his given name is Shouta.
  • Irony: His mythological powers are derived from Izanagi, who was known for ensuring that there were more births than deaths to preserve his creation. Yamato, however, works for an assassin organization, and he himself decides to take over it as their new leader.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Once Kokuzan is killed, he claims the music box to control his own sister and rebrands The Crows to the Twilight Order with him as their new leader.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: His civilian disguise has his hair all black, but half of it turns red when he's using his powers.
  • Promoted to Playable: He was introduced as an NPC with his own boss fight in Sea of Sorrow, but then Immortal Fire added him as a playable character.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: His Esper Profile trailer has him showing off his really dark nature while the music is... incredibly sweet and flowery-sounding.
  • The Starscream: His plot to take down Kokuzan wasn't just to see his sister free from his control, but he wanted to usurp Kokuzan to claim the music box and therefore the entirety of The Crows as their new leader.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Fugu sashimi. One of the first times he had it was at a dinner for the Crows where they were told that one of two sashimi plates was poisoned. Yamato was the only one at the table who dared to have a bite, and he loved it. The poison thing turned out to be a lie and both plates were fine, but he still associates fugu sashimi with his love of risk taking.
  • Walking Spoiler: Very hard to talk about him given his many actions.

"The stage is set. My dolls are ready for a curtain call."

Voiced By: Aimee Smith (English), Asaki Yuikawa (Japanese), Park Ha-jin (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

Once known as Iori, Yuuhime is a gloomy, puppet-like girl and sister to Yamato. She's the surviving daughter from the wealthiest family in Geran City, who became a member of the Crows afterwards. She is a Fighter Esper who uses her Hell's Hand buff to make herself stronger and can punish enemies trying to increase their AP.

  • She has a unique buff called Hell's Hand that increases her ATK and stacks up to ten times.
  • Nether Jewel deals damage to an enemy based on Yuuhime's ATK. The damage is increased based on the amount of Hell's Hand stacks she has, and she will permanently lower the target's ATK.
  • Death Gate deals damage to all enemies based on Yuuhime's ATK, increasing the damage based on the number of Hell's Hand stacks she has. The enemies' Max HP is reduced based on the damage she deals, and she also inflicts DEF Down. Once per turn, when a non-boss enemy gains AP Up, she will instantly cast this ability, reduce their AP, and inflict Hamstrung all without fail.
  • Beyond the Grave damages all enemies twice based on Yuuhime's ATK, with the second hit dealing way more damage. The first hit inflicts Diseased, and the second hit reduces enemy Max HP, clears their AP, and inflicts Hamstrung before deaing damage. At the end of Yuuhime's active turns, she gains a stack of Hell's Hand. When ascended, the fewer targets on the field, the more damage this ability does.

  • Big, Thin, Short Trio: The Short to Yamato's Thin and Moroyama's Big.
  • Caged Bird Metaphor: Compared to both a caged canary and a puppet on a string multiple times while under both the Crows and her own brother, who has a whole bounty story dedicated to the bird metaphor. Her career profile says that she desperately wants to escape from her current lifestyle and live a normal life, but has never been able to.
  • The Dreaded: In some circles, she's know as the Necro Maiden, whose twelve hands open the way to the underworld.
  • Emotionless Girl: She's described as gloomy and cold, like an unfeeling puppet. She was a lively kid, but that changed after her family home burned down and she became an assassin. Nowadays, the only thing that can make her drop her stoicness is...expensive matcha ice cream she can't afford.
  • Given Name Reveal: Sea of Sorrow reveals that her given name is Iori.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Yuuhime (who is 160cm or about 5'3" tall) is pretty small compared to the two known men of the Twilight Order. Moroyama (198cm or about 6'6") makes her look positively tiny, and even her own brother Yamato (184cm or about 6 feet tall) makes her look pretty short in comparison.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: She has a grand total of fourteen arms, twelve of which are skeletal and ghastly, and she's a highly dangerous assassin.
  • Mundane Utility: While her twelve extra arms do wonders for her work as an assassin, she also uses them to assist with her hair care, something that floors Li Guang when she asks for advice with her own hair.
  • Otaku: She enjoys watching mecha movies and is a fan of the Samurai Flower franchise.
  • Riches to Rags: Since her family's downfall, she's barely scrapped by with the little money she has. However, this is mostly caused by indulging in eating matcha ice cream that's more expensive than the regular kind.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Matcha ice cream, something she likes to indulge in after completing a challenging task.
  • Two Guys and a Girl: Of the three playable members of the Twilight Order, she's the one girl to Yamato and Moroyama's two guys.

"I unsheathe my sword only for the strongest foes."

Voiced By: Mike Smith (English), Masataka Sanada (Japanese), Park Ho-yong (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

A Rōnin and member of the Twilight Order who's always in search of his next Worthy Opponent. He is a Fighter Esper who specializes in multi-hit attacks on a single target.

  • Moroyama has two unique buffs. They are...
    • Inhibitor, which nullifies incoming debuffs if the enemy attempting to inflict them has a lower ATK than Moroyama.
    • Warrior Reborn, which prevents Moroyama from dying or being debuffed until the start of his next turn. When that turn ends, Moroyama will die, but if he kills an enemy while this effect is active, the effect is removed and Moroyama is fully healed. This buff is unlocked when Moroyama is at Resonance 4 and is tied to his Bloodshadow ability; once per battle when taking lethal damage for the first time, he will heal himself instead of dying and gain this effect.
  • Serpent Strike inflicts Diseased and DEF Down on an enemy and then hits them three times, dealing damage based on Moroyama's ATK.
  • Bloodshadow is a passive ability. If Moroyama's HP is above 50% at the start of his active turn, he will gain Inhibitor and hit a random enemy with Snakebite, which inflicts a target with Sear and then attacks them three times, dealing damage based on his ATK.
  • Abyssal Salvo dispels all buffs from an enemy and hits them five times, dealing damage based on Moroyama's ATK. If his ATK is higher than his target's, he will ignore their DMG Mitigation and a good chunk of their DEF. When ascended, if Moroyama scores a kill with this ability, the cooldown will be reset.

  • Always Someone Better: It's implied in his profile that his older brother Moromoto was jealous of Moroyama's raw strength, which caused Moromoto to hatch a scheme to have Moroyama incarcerated by killing their father by accident.
  • Animal Motifs: Befitting the Esper of an eight-headed serpent demon, Moroyama is associated with snakes. Some of his abilities have snake-themed names and a group of brightly colored snakes are wound around his left arm.
  • Artificial Stupidity: While under the CPU control, Moroyama will hardly ever eliminate a foe capable of screwing his whole team if not dealt with quickly. He will target the weakest foe instead, leaving the team wide open to attacks by the strongest foe he didn't choose to beat right away.
  • The Big Guy: He's much taller and buffer than the other known members of the Twilight Order.
  • Big, Thin, Short Trio: The Big to Yamato's Thin and Yuuhime's Short.
  • Everything's Better with Samurai: While all the other Japanese Espers fit in with Dislyte's 20 Minutes into the Future streetwear aesthetic, Moroyama's design and swordplay evoke the image of a demonic samurai searching for his next opponent. His divinate refers to him as a Rōnin while his hobbies are described as "samurai pursuits".
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Moromoto's plan to exile Moroyama as a traitor to their family only caused Moroyama to awaken to his Esper powers and gain more strength than what he already had, helping him to kill his brother as revenge for what he did to him.
  • Might Makes Right: After all the hardship he endured trying to hide his strength and being set up by his older brother to kill their father by accident, upon killing his brother, he realized that adhering to samurai principles was laughable and only strength and fighting were worth it.
  • Patricide: Through his older brother's trickery, he had accidentally killed his father and was incarcerated for it.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: After he was unjustly branded a traitor and incarcerated, he descended into fury and awoke to his Esper powers, helping him break through his cage and kill his overconfident brother Moromoto.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: He's a powerful Esper swordsman who is part of an assassin organization and has a recurring association with snakes, including a group of them that have made themselves at home on his left arm.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: He was aware of how powerful he was even before becoming an Esper that he hid his strength to play the role of prodigal son.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: His lack of shirt puts his muscles and chest scars on full display.
  • Worthy Opponent: As much as he loves a good fight, he'll only draw his sword against peple he thinks are strong enough to face him.

"Ladies! And! Gentlemen! Let's get this show on the road."

Voiced By: Ken Dillon (English), Hiroe Koyama (Japanese), Nam Jae-hwan (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Support

A wandering Street Musician with a fondness for humans. He is a Support Esper who focuses on the team's crit damage.

  • He has a unique buff called Take Five. He cannot be damaged, and while his attacks can't launch counterattacks, they do heal him for some of the damage dealt. He gets access to this buff at Resonance 6, and gains it before the start of his allies' active turns and loses it at the end of his own.
  • Wild Howl damages an enemy based on Wenlock's ATK and inflicts Crit Resist Down.
  • Free Jazz is a passive ability. One per turn, if an ally deals Critical damage, their damage is increased, and if they deal non-critical damage, they deal extra true damage and lower the target's crit resist throughout combat. When ascended, allies receive C. RATE Up and C. DMG Up before their active turns start.
  • Star Turn damages all enemies three times based on Wenlock's ATK and has a chance to dispel one buff from each enemy. At the end of it, all enemies receive ATK Down and C. RATE Down.

  • Beast Man: His powers turned him into a very shaggy coyote man.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: He appears to be one to the people he thanks for their performance when they really don't do any sort of performance, but rather he judges everyone on their reactions to find out if they are being true to themselves.
  • Critical Hit Class: His moveset, particularly his passive Free Jazz, revolves around increasing the team's crit damage while making enemies more vulnerable to critical hits.
  • Magic Music: His attacks come from him playing his instruments.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: The theater performer Desormeaux took him under his wing and helped him understand experiencing kindness and love the stage, until an unnamed incident caused Desormeaux to betray Wenlock. Due to this, Wenlock acquired an ideology of staging tragedies to judge people on their reactions, as "that's where true drama is born."
  • Sadist: While he doesn't intend any harm, seeing people despairing makes him happy, as that helps in creating outstanding dramatic works. His Divinate info has him hiding his face at a car crash, and yet it's noted that he's poorly-hiding his grin.
  • The Sixth Ranger: He's not as attached to Valeria's faction as he may appear, but he often travels with them on their ships and is close friends with Liam.
  • Street Musician: He's an eccentric fellow who plays a guitar and some hand drums. His musical prowess goes hand in hand with his deity, who is the Aztec god of music.
  • Those Wily Coyotes: Subverted. He's a coyote man with a laid-back attitude who comes off as more of an eccentric hippie than a trickster. His deity is the Aztec god of mischief, though.

    Valeria (Quetzalcoatl)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/valeria_2.png
"Sometimes a calm sea needs a few waves."

Voiced By: Paige Williams (English), Yuuka (Japanese), Shin Na-ri (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

The exotic captain of the Flyingplume Voyageurs, twin sister to Liam, and the game's first Aztec Esper. She's an intrepid seafarer who enjoys venturing into places where other bounty hunters fear to tread. She's a fighter Esper who can use her unique Snake Shape and Power Reserve buffs to increase damage dealt and decrease damage taken respectively.

  • Valeria has two unique buffs: Snake Shape, which increases the damage of her basic ability, and Power Reserve, which reduces any damage taken and disappears upon being attacked.
  • Launching Tide deals damage to an enemy based on Valeria's ATK, with a chance to lower enemy AP. Each point of Valeria's SPD increases the damage.
  • Plum Feathers is a passive ability. Valeria gains Snake Shape and Power Reserve at the end of her turn. When Power Reserve is triggered, Valeria's AP increases.
  • Serpent Surge gives Valeria SPD Up, and then she deals damage to an enemy based on her ATK while giving them SPD Down. Each point of SPD increases the damage. When ascended, the target's AP is completely cleared out.

  • Animal Motifs: Snakes and serpents, in both her snake-themed ability names and her pants that resemble a serpent's scales. It connects to Quetzalcoatl, who was a large feathered serpent from Aztec mythology.
  • Big Eater: She overstocks on food between voyages because of her voracious appetite. Brynn and Q mistake her actions when overstocking on food looking for her brother in the forest as food for him, but it's actually all for her because it took too long looking for him.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Though she is Liam's twin, she used to defend him from people bullying him when he was wheelchair-bound. She still retains the same attitude after he transformed into an Esper.
  • Blow You Away: Her third ability Serpent Surge sees her stir up a giant tornado to attack an enemy. Appropriate since Quetzalcoatl was the god of wind.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Stars in the Devouring Beast event, where she tries to reunite with her lost brother Liam.
  • Harping on About Harpies: Her powers are derived from the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, granting her large wings.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She just wears a bra that barely covers her large breasts on her upper body.
  • No Social Skills: She's horrendous at reading the atmosphere and at comforting others that she completely mistook a little girl's not-so subtle love declaration for her (wanting Valeria to be a boy) for a mistaken belief that men were more capable than women, and then another girl sought solace with her after a breakup...that Valeria suggested her to focus on the vast ocean instead, which meant absolutely nothing.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Her Esper powers grant her a large pair of wings that she uses to fly and stir up winds.
  • The Reliable One: She's quick to act when help is needed among her crewmembers.
  • Spectacular Spinning: She likes to spin and even admits loving it.
  • Vapor Wear: Her large breasts are braless but are always covered by two strings of ornaments that cover them even when she's always facing high turbulence from her bird-like appearance.

"...Ugh! ...Ah! ...Feel my pain!"

Voiced By: Richard Browning (English), Yutaka Iwanami (Japanese), Kim Ji-yul (Korean)
Attribute: FlowNote
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Defender

Valeria's twin brother, who was once wheelchair-bound until his Esper transformation turned him into a beastial canine Esper suffering from bouts of rampage and short-term memory loss. He was introduced in Devouring Beast and made playable in Sea Breeze, where he's doing a lot better and travelling with his sister. He is a Defender Esper who can heal, buff, and even revive allies while taking advantage of his team's basic attacks.

  • Liam's unique buffs are as follows:
    • Gemini increases his SPD and DEF. It's stackable and won't be removed in subsequent rounds.
    • Haven increases his DEF. When actively casting Life Slash, he calls in an ally with Vigilant to cast their basic ability as a follow-up.
    • Vigilant increases the carrier's ATK. When actively casting their basic ability, Liam will follow up with Life Slash.
  • Life Slash hits an enemy twice, dealing damage based on Liam's ATK and DEF. He reduces the target's Max HP ceiling and heals the ally with the lowest HP.
  • Berserk is a passive ability that increases Liam's C. RATE. When Liam or his allies cast a basic attack, he gains a stack of Gemini. Once per battle, Liam will revive an ally with some of their HP when he kills an enemy.
  • Bloody Lament grants C. DMG Up to Liam and the ally with the highest ATK. Both of them have their debuffs dispelled, and Liam gains Haven while the ally gains Vigilant. This ability's cooldown cannot be manipulated, and when ascended Liam gains a bonus turn after using this ability.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: He disgusted people by his mishaped legs when he was a child before he transformed. When he transformed, the disgust turned into fear for his abominable appearance and bouts of rampage.
  • Beast Man: He's a large bipedal dog Esper, taking cues from the Aztec god Xolotl, who was depicted with the head of a dog.
  • The Big Guy: Though he may appear much taller because of his long legs, he's actually a few centimeters shorter than Javid, who is the tallest beast Esper. Still, Liam is the second tallest beast Esper, and tied with Pritzker and Taylor for the fourth tallest overall.
  • Birds of a Feather: He's able to relate to Q when the latter relates the ramifications of his appearance changing and affecting his whole life.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Sweeter than bitter. Feng Nuxi is able to come up with a way to at least keep his sanity in check rather than attempting to reverse his Esper transformation, though the method can still backfire and has to have him be away from civilization for when it's time to take his medicine. Not that this is any bad to him, because he and Valeria can just go seafaring and collect sizeable bounties to keep themselves fine.
  • Breaking Old Trends:
    • Alongside Alolin, he's the first beast Esper who's not of the Inferno attribute.
    • He's also the first Legendary Flow Defender since Donar, who was introduced during the game's beta tests and part of the cast at launch.
  • Contrived Coincidence: His name is just one letter away of being mistaken with Lian, who's another flow Esper with ties to the ocean.
  • Covert Pervert: In one of Valeria's Swiftspace posts, she asks people what to do for a video promoting their seavoyager team. What does Liam suggest?
    Liam: Girls!
  • Dark Is Not Evil: You have to squint really hard for this one, but this crazed, huge, muzzled canine with the hair and weapon with living eyes is not a bad guy, just suffers from bouts of rampage.
  • Delicate and Sickly: He used to be a frail boy who used to have crippled mishaped legs, bounding him to a wheelchair. He got all better when he became an Esper, at the cost of losing his sanity over and over.
  • Downer Ending: Multiple ones:
    • Should Brynn and Q arrest Valeria, Liam continues to be a rampaging threat to Graywater, and Fu Shi continues to manipulate him for his experiments.
    • Should Brynn decline to put a stop to him, Liam becomes sick with the guilt of causing mayhem and injuring Valeria that he fatally stabs his own chest and dies.
  • Epic Fail: Knowing how competitive his sister is, he tried to hide his Swiftspace post about learning how to make it look it she could win against him at chess, except he chose the wrong settings and ended up notifying her directly about it.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: He has a series of glowing pink eyes on his forearms as well as on his sword.
  • Hidden Depths: He's surprisingly good at chess, unlike his sister, who can't sit still.
  • Nice Guy: He's the Guard Captain of the Flyingplume Voyageurs, looking out after other sailors facing troubles while voyaging.
  • Promoted to Playable: He was originally introduced as an NPC and event boss in Devouring Beast back in July 2023. Come November of the same year and he finally makes his playable debut.
  • Rage Breaking Point: When he sees the villagers injuring his sister, he goes nuts and nearly succumbs to his madness unless either he takes his own life while sane enough, or Brynn and Q manage to stall for time enough for Raven and Feng Nuxi to arrive and stop him.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He used to look very similar to his sister when they were younger, but now, the only passing resemblance they share is the color of their pink human hair.
  • Tragic Monster: Due to his Esper powers exceeding their output of Divine Waves, he's unable to control his mind and goes on rampages unless he's treated. Thanks to Feng Nuxi developing a way to weaken the Esper power in him to keep him sane, he's able to live a stable enough life with Valeria by releasing Divine Waves in safe places.

Tangton Council

The council of Tangton made up of a majority of normal humans, with the one exception being Yu Ran; the only council member who wishes to represent Espers as people. As he has Esper special agents working for his cause, this entry defines his group within the council.

    Yu Xu (Jingwei)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuxu.png
"Your defense is full of flaws."

Voiced By: Chloe Mei-li Bundt (English), Chiharu (Japanese), Kim Jisoo (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Epic
Role: Defender

Yu Ran's righthand supporter. A young-looking girl who's not as harmless as she looks. She's a defender Esper whose unique buff Usurp allows her to steal buffs from enemies who attack her to bolster her defenses.

  • Her unique debuff, Usurp, steals a buff from her target.
  • Featherblade damages an enemy thrice, dealing damage based on Yu Xu's ATK and DEF. When ascended, she also inflicts Sear.
  • Cutting Remark is a passive ability. Yu Xu gains a shield at the start of enemy turn, and if she's hit she inflicts Usurp on her attacker.
  • Flourish damages all enemies twice based on Yu Xu's DEF, doing more damage if there are fewer targets on the field, and then inflicts Taunt. At the end of her turn, if she has at least three buffs, Flourish's cooldown is shortened by one turn, and if she has at least five buffs, her basic ability damage is increased.

  • A Day in the Limelight: Alongside Yu Ran and Su Jue, she stars in Farewell Fireworks.
  • Animal Motifs: Parts of her design evoke the image of a bird, referencing Jingwei's reincarnation into a bird after drowning in the Eastern Sea.
  • Blatant Lies: Her menu animation has her dropping a knife - a murder weapon she mentions - and kicking it away, while calmly feigning ignorance about how it got there with her.
  • The Comically Serious: Her Swiftspace account reveals that she can be quite comedic in her posts, such as her constant friction with Su Jue, or her gemstone hobby which can take up to a whole day of her talking (in the latter case, she was being filmed, but only 15 minutes were used out of a whole day worth of footage).
  • Creepy Child: She appears as a creepy albino with large claws, and somehow, the in-game description mentions she's not as harmless as she looks.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Her not so harmless looks aside, she means well, and she fully supports Yu Ran's vision to convince Tangton that Espers are people too.
  • Headbutting Heroes: Often butts heads with Su Jue, who often teases her on her failed attempts to be a child and her hobbies on collecting gemstones.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Her ears are distinctly inhuman and feather-like.
  • Not Growing Up Sucks: She's unable to physically age thanks to her transformation, and while she can use her looks to her advantage, it's one of the things she hates the most about herself. She specifially envies Su Jue's mature appearance and good looks because it's something she doesn't have.
  • Older Than They Look: She's 23, but in a similar situation to Mavis, she stopped aging when she got her powers at eight years old, so she still looks like a kid. It's noted that not a lot of people know how old she really is.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: She uses her youthful looks to pass off as a child. Unfortunately, she's incapable of behaving like a child and her Perpetual Frowner look blows her attempts.
  • Recruiting the Criminal: She met Yu Ran after he caught her trying to break into his house to steal his valuables, but instead of turning her in, offered to take her under his wing as an intelligence officer, which she accepted.
  • Restored My Faith in Humanity: Due to her experiences being persecuted by Tangton officials, she saw no hope in humanity and was ready to discard ever thinking about people changing their minds to Espers, but meeting Yu Ran and hearing his speeches convinced her to follow him and his ideals.

    Fumitsuki (Kaguya-Hime)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fumitsuki.png
"To protect this land from degradation, to safeguard peace throughout the nation!"

Voiced By: Ariane Marchese (English), Natsune Inui (Japanese), Kim Haeun (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Controller

A ditzy journalist from Tangton with a flair for the dramatic. She is a controller Esper who can stun foes with pursuit attacks and use her unique Bamboozled effect to keep herself in the fight.

  • Fumitsuki has a unique effect called Bamboozled, which increases her RESIST and DEF and dispels all her debuffs at the start of her turn.
  • Bamboo Cutter deals damage to an enemy based on Fumitsuki's ATK and inflicts Buff Blocker.
  • To The Moon is a passive ability. If Fumitsuki is not incapacitated or stuck in a Taunt at the end of an enemy's turn, she'll use Bamboo Cutter as a pursuit attack and stun her target without fail.
  • Heavenly Raiment deals damage to all enemies based on Fumitsuki's ATK and inflicts Diseased and C. RATE Down while healing the party. She'll also gain Bamboozled, and when ascended, gets a shield too.

  • Birds of a Feather: Unsurprisingly, she's close friends with Tiye, who definitely supported Fumitsuki's dreams of being a hero of justice.
  • Butt-Monkey: Her Editor can be hilariously strict on her when not following orders to behave. Though it takes a dark turn when the Editor briefly threatens her not to divulge the truth about what happened at the garrison. This becomes even darker when the Editor is the one ordering the hit to kill Fumitsuki on behalf of Ren Xian.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Stars in Exposé, where her Hot Scoop makes her the target for something nefarious.
  • Deuteragonist: Of Mists of Memory, seeking Fu Shi to find out how to prevent an incoming disaster.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Her Editor disapproves of publishing the story being the garrison incident because it will cause mass panic in Tangton that will lead to further chaos should all the citizens seek refuge in other cities where they won't be looked out after by sheer numbers. However, her Editor is working for Ren Xian, who doesn't want the news published as it will threaten his chances to exile all Espers from Tangton.
  • Green Thumb: Her first and third abilities are themed around bamboo, referencing the plant that Kaguya-hime was found in as a baby in Japanese folklore.
  • Hope Bringer: Both Fu Shi and Ikki believe that she has the best chances to report to the whole world the Awful Truth about what can happen to normal people who linger too much while being too close to the Miracles (they risk turning into Miramon) without being criticized for it due to her job as a journalist, unlike how they're both from the Shadow Decree.
  • In the Name of the Moon: She likes to proclaim flashy one-liners (even though she's not exactly a general hero of justice) while on the job. She also has a second skill (To The Moon) that vaguely sounds like the trope itself.
  • Informed Attribute: Zigzagged. Her super heroine tendencies are shown in her own character trailer and flavor text, but in actual story chapters, she never displays her flashy proclamations, only displaying generic stubborness to get scoops.
  • It's All My Fault: She feels responsible for the mysterious assassins killing Zhi Peng due to her article she published about the incident at the garrison bringing attention to it.
  • Sadistic Choice: During Mists of Memory, she's stuck trying to decide what to do when she learns that Fu Shi is allegedly in league with Ren Xian. Either she brings Fu Shi to the authorities and expose Ren Xian, but it'd mean there would be no one to help Ikki's father recover from his coma; or she stays quiet, but she'd basically allow Fu Shi to experiment on innocent people that she brought up to him. In the end, she ends up taking a third option: use herself as a test subject.
  • Sent Into Hiding: She forms an alliance with Yu Ran's team to stay safe from assassins on the condition that she goes into hiding to be ready to publish her news article when she's ordered to.
  • She Knows Too Much: The article she wrote about the incident that occurred in the garrison close to the Chaos Miracle: while the story she heard was partially the truth, it brought attention to the incident all the same, which caused a group of mysterious assassins to kill her lead Zhi Peng and later target her when she witnesses their assassination. To make things more complicated, councilman Ren Xian wants her eliminated so the truth stays hidden.
  • Shout-Out: Her gacha quote is a riff on Team Rocket's famous motto from the Pokémon anime.
  • Unwitting Pawn: During Mists of Memory, she's sick thinking that she's always been bossed around by other people keeping her from making free decisions. So, to break out of that, she offers herself as test subject to Fu Shi to avoid using innocent people for his Esper Serum experiment. Luckily for her, her rising Esper Sync Rate manages to come to a stop when the serum is applied to her.

    Yu Ran (Bai Ze)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuran_1.png
"The world of governed by people's causes...and the changes they desire."

Voiced By: Luca Xavier (English), Seiji Maeda (Japanese), Park Hyun-woong (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Controller

A wise politician and the only Esper of Tangton's council members. He advocates for Espers being people who need to be supported rather than being shunned. He is a controller Esper who can inflict sleep on all enemies and increase the damage they take from his allies.

  • His unique buff, Apotropaic, deals extra damage to sleeping targets based on his Max HP. This damage cannot be a miss, critical hit, or elemental boon.
  • Exorcism damages an enemy twice based on Yu Ran's ATK, and each hit inflicts Sleep. Afterwards, a random ally will be called in to perform an assist attack.
  • Boundless Grace damages an enemy twice based on Yu Ran's ATK and inflicts Sleep. All allies receive ATK Up and Apotropaic, and this ability's cooldown cannot be manipulated.
  • Anathema damages all enemies thrice based on Yu Ran's ATK and inflicts Sleep. All allies gain C. DMG Up, and when ascended, all enemies get DEF Down.

  • Animal Motifs: The deer, which is how the ancient Chinese beast Bai Ze was originally described as a dragon with the body of a deer.
  • Big Good: He's this to the Tangton Anomaly arc, striving to give a good name to Espers while maneuvering around the traps set by Ren Xian, who's attempting to take Yu Ran down.
  • The Chessmaster: He's proved to be quite a calculating man:
    • During Farewell Fireworks, he manages to intercept Su Jue through Yu Xu by convincing her not to follow through her assassination on Li Tiangang by appealing to her Hidden Heart of Gold (because an Esper killing a council member would really make all other Espers suffer in Tangton), manages to get Su Jue on board with his growing group, and also saves her from committing a serious crime to avoid falling into Ren Xian's trap.
    • In Exposé, he learns about Fumitsuki's role in investigating the Awful Truth at the abandoned garrison and convinces her through Su Jue to aid him in exchange for protection from Ren Xian's henchmen wanting to murder her to silence the truth on the incident.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Alongside Yu Xu and Su Jue, he stars in Farewell Fireworks.
  • Distressed Dude: During Items of Fate, he's kidnapped by Ren Xian to lure Yu Xu and Su Jue into a trap while relying on Chu Yao's help to trick them.
  • Forced Sleep: All of his abilites are able to put enemies to sleep, and his unique buff deals extra damage to sleeping targets.
  • Loyal Animal Companion: He's been raising a pet fox (no, it's not Su Jue).
  • Self-Made Man: He used to be a meek man who was constantly bullied at a school for rich kids (he was the only one who got in through his own merits). Once he transformed and was given a position in Tangton's council through Li Tiangang, the latter commented that Yu Ran grew into a wise man and proved himself to be among the other (Esper-hating) council members.
  • Smart People Play Chess: He is a wise and empathetic politician, and chess is one of his favorite pasttimes.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: All of the council members define Su Jue as a witch (and she does so herself, but not out of malice as they do), but he's the only one who calls her a beautiful woman.
  • Token Minority: He's the only member of Tangton's Council to be an Esper, and specifically advocates for better Esper protection in the city. However, Ren Xian is also an Esper hiding his Esperhood, but he couldn't care less to help other Espers himself unlike Yu Ran.

    Su Jue (Da Ji)

"The truth is often hidden in trivial information."

Voiced By: Madison Lee (English), Yuka Nishio (Japanese), Kim Jisoo (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

An alluring female special agent capable of shapeshifting for her own amusement. She is a fighter Esper who can exploit her unique Puppet Art debuff to cripple foes.

  • Su Jue has the following unique status effects:
    • Puppet Art, a debuff. The carrier's Resist and Miss Rate are drastically lowered when taking hits. The damage they take is increased, and they gain Taunt at the start of their turn.
    • Funeral Rites, a buff. Her damage is increased by a certain amount per stack (up to 9 stacks), and when she attacks, each stack deals extra True Damage based on her ATK.
  • Nebula Knock deals damage to an enemy based on Su Jue's ATK. Each point of SPD deals extra damage, and if the target has Puppet Art, Su Jue absorbs some of their AP.
  • Haze Havoc damages all enemies three times based on Su Jue's ATK. Each point of SPD deals extra damage, and there's a chance to inflict DEF Down. Extra damage is dealt to enemies with Puppet Art, based on Su Jue's ATK. When taking ability damage from an enemy with Puppet Art, Su Jue will counterattack to deal some of that damage right back plus some extra True Damage based on her ATK. She is immune to ability effects from enemies with Puppet Art, and if someone makes their Puppet Art end early, they get it again for an extra two turns.
  • Bewitching Spell deals damage to an enemy based on Su Jue's ATK. Each point of SPD deals extra damage, and she dispels all her target's buffs while giving them Puppet Art. She gains 9 stacks of Funeral Rites at the start of combat, and when an ally takes lethal damage, she consumes a stack to dispel all their debuffs and postpones their death until the end of a bonus turn. When ascended, if Puppet Art fails to inflict, this ability's cooldown is reset.

  • Animal Motifs: The fox, which takes cues from the evil fox spirit Da Ji.
  • Asian Fox Spirit: She's based on the huli jing, which is the Chinese version of this. She has nine ghostly tails and the mask on the back of her head makes it look like she has fox ears.
  • Beat Them at Their Own Game: As Su Jue thrives in trickery, she foils Chu Yao's divine power by losing belief in it entirely after she had noticed all the strange oddities from other people who were more or less forced to believe in them for them to work. This makes her a Worthy Opponent in Chu Yao's eyes.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: As a Tangton native, she faced persecussion by political figures, which didn't help when she targeted councilman Li Tiangang by impersonating him and making it look like he was doing humiliating stuff that severely tanked his reputation. She was thrown in jail and tortured with many different methods for years until she made her escape and vowed to kill him as revenge.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Alongside Yu Ran and Yu Xu, she stars in Farewell Fireworks.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: She's beautiful and uses her good looks to entice people and trick them.
  • Does Not Like Spam: She likes all kinds of flavors of food and drinks except for the sweet-tasting ones. The correct quiz answer from Burning Beat Rave 2024's Sweet Wishes revealed that she prefers bitter melon juice over honey tea. Her Valentine's Day gift from Passions & Ideals event is the only one that is not chocolate.
  • Femme Fatale: Beautiful, dresses all in black, shady, holds her own secrets and very dangerous.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: Though Yu Ran vividly remembered her when she saved him from rich students bullying him, she forgot about him until he helped her remember. In all honesty, it'd be hard for anyone to remember the poor kid from the school of rich kids who ended up becoming a corteous politician (and got transformed into a humanoid goat).
  • Girls Love Chocolate: Completely subverted. She hates sweet things (including chocolates), which makes her the only Esper whose Valentine's Day gift is not a chocolate. Instead, her gift is Twisted Pastry which is a Chinese twisted fried dough called Máhuā.
  • Headbutting Heroes: Often butts heads with Yu Xu, whose stoicness and Creepy Child looks gives Su Jue a lot to tease at.
  • Heel–Face Turn: By the end of Farewell Fireworks, she accepts Yu Ran's offer to work with him to make Tangton life for Espers better and free from persecution.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Yu Ran surmises that Su Jue is a nice person, even though she had threatened him to embarrass him with a girl he loved when he was younger. It's just that Su Jue is a bit of Tsundere by not being honest about her good deeds.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: Her hair hides one of her eyes to make her look more mysterious.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: She has some...preferences in dying at the countryside without letting anyone know about her untimely death if someone kills her (it'll save funeral expenses).
  • Sympathy for the Devil: During the second Anomaly event, she sympathizes with the Da Ji lady of the story and is disgusted when she was made to be The Scapegoat to the god who sent her to deceive humans and was killed for it. Ironically, Su Jue herself could have turned into this during Farewell Fireworks had she gotten the chance to kill Li Tiangang herself.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: She was more than ready to torture and kill Li Tiangang when she had the chance and didn't care about being manipulated by other council members to accomplish her goal, but then this becomes averted when she realizes an Esper murdering a politician will only make life for other Espers being judged by Tangton humans worse, and she won't have that happen.
  • Tsundere: More subdued than most examples on "dere-dere" but it's subtle. This becomes a weaponized example using 3 stacks of Funeral Rites to delay a teammate's death after they act, but if her resonance is maxed out, she'll retaliate with Bewitching Spell on top.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: She's able to shapeshift into anyone, which is a reference to the evil fox spirit Da Ji, who impersonated and killed the real Da Ji; consort to King Zhou of Shang.

Non-Playable Characters

    Tang Na (El)

Sachiko's former teacher and caretaker at the Nielheim Orphanage, who became amnesiac after barely escaping death.

  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Averting death thanks to Sachiko awakening to her Esper powers caused her to lose all memories of her past, which also caused her to suffer from bouts of memory loss like Embla (except less troublesome) and a need to absorb divine waves to get enough energy to work.
  • Mercy Kill: Her Final Request to Sachiko after she turns into a Miramon.
  • Remembered Too Late: She is able to remember her adoptive daughter Sachiko right before she succumbs to her tragic transformation into a Miramon, though she is able to relay her wish to die by Sachiko to be "free" from her lost self.
  • Tragic Monster: Her dependency on absorbing divine waves slowly made her lose her humanity until she becomes a Miramon that has to be killed.

    Cora

The Fatum Sisters' mother.

  • Good Parents: Though she is dealing with three superpowered daughters, she is always calm and kind, and her daughters adore her.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Strangely, she is entirely absent during the Dreams Afar event without getting a mention, but only appears in her daughters' side episodes.

    Markiplier

Voiced by: Markiplier

An astronomy researcher who definitely isn't modeled after someone named Markiplier. He was added as an alternate Bounty giver alongside the Beard Contest event.
  • Actor Allusion: Markiplier wearing a space suit is in-line with his In Space with Markiplier video, with the trailer mentioning he somehow ended up in the world of Dislyte.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: He literally looks like Markiplier in a space suit.
  • Quest Giver: He replaces Discboom as the person who gives you bounties. A button next to the Bounties stand allows players to switch between the two.

The Lone Star Event

    Anita

A young girl who hails from Oasis. She is found by Ollie and tags along with him to search for her parents.

  • Birds of a Feather: With Ollie and Laura:
    • As the tale progresses, she starts to become just like Ollie: she loses her family to the same assassin (Leon) who murdered Ollie's father, and she also becomes so obsessed with revenge that she doesn't prepare herself for what else could happen on the way down that path, which she learns the hard way when her impulsiveness leads to Ray's death.
    • By the end of the event, Laura adopts her into their family, and one of Laura's episodes even draws parallels with Anita's running away to see the stars (believing that her parents are watching her as stars) just like how Laura ran away from home to see where her parents lived when she was young.
  • Happily Adopted: Is taken in by Laura, who reminds herself in Anita as Laura was also adopted into House Ramses.
  • She Knows Too Much: Not her, but her parents were involved with House Ramses's Artificial Guardian Project, making them targets for Leon to kill to keep knowledge of the project a secret. For their involvement, they are murdered by Leon.

    Ray

A bounty hunter from Oasis, whom Anita affectionately calls him uncle. Appears in The Lone Star side tale.

  • Badass Normal: Despite not being an Esper, he has led a band of bounty hunters who can fend off the Miramon.
  • He Knows Too Much: As one of Ollie's father's closest allies, he was in the know about the Artificial Guardian Project, which the Shadow Decree stole and has sent Leon to dispose of anyone who knows about the project to keep it a secret.
  • Hidden Depths: It turns out he's one of Ollie's father's closest allies.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: As a harsh reminder about what revenge can do, he is murdered by Miramon after failing to persuade both Ollie and Anita to avoid going after a wounded Leon back to his hiding place. It's his death that convinces both Anita and especially Ollie to stop obsessing with revenge least they want to lose more to it.

Static Shock Event

    Hannah

Gaius's fiancée, who was killed during a Miracle attack at Estero Harbor.

  • Action Girl: Despite not being an Esper, she still dirtied her hands fighting the Miracles.
  • Disaster Dominoes: Her death unwillingly caused a lot of trouble to the Esper Union when Hyde was driven into a Heroic BSoD, pushing him into amoral research that resulted in the creation of the Artificial Esper Project that led to Fan Liang's death and Jiang Man's suicide that made her be reborn as an amnesiac vengeful on the Esper Union, Embla's memory loss that made her forget everything about her past and her own boyfriend, and Embla's and Fu Shi's desertion to the Shadow Decree when Hyde first conceived it. Then, his own desertion was the start of multiple incidents. His desertion prompted his pupil Anesidora from defecting alongside him, destroying all of Chalmers's research (her own pupil) on her exit out. Later, she started to experiment on her own lowly members and Berenice's Moon Eye members and turned them into brainwashed slaves willing to explode upon defeat while also experimenting on the creation of a Super Esper on Sieg (Brynn's partner) and Joe (Q's friend), the latter who dies from being a faulty experiment, and then there's the ambiguity of what exactly she did that was so oddly convenient for Lynn's revenge.
  • Posthumous Character: Dead a while ago by the time the story proper starts.

Fireworks Celebration Sidequest

    Jasper

Attribute: Flow

A subordinate to Ashley.

  • Arc Villain: Of the Fireworks Celebration sidequest.
  • Degraded Boss: She gets demoted as a regular enemy in the non-canon Calamity Island mode.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: She tries to kill many innocent people in a selfish move to avenge her parents being left behind by Ashley.
  • Meaningful Name: She's fully dressed in green, just like one of the many colors of a jasper.
  • Tragic Villain: She absolutely hates Ashley for not choosing to save her parents over countless more people by prioritizing more lives over theirs, pushing Jasper into villainy by killing many innocent people during the celebration. Thankfully, she is stopped.

Ruler's Law Event

    Luca

A researcher who formerly worked for the Union but was discouraged to pursue his research. He appears in the Ruler's Law event.

  • For Science!: Despite the ammorality of his research, he wants to complete it no matter the cost. Since he was going to the Shadow Decree, he didn't care much about the little sacrifices done on the way.
  • Mad Scientist: Implied. His research involved imbuing people and Espers with a power amplifier using the Miramon as power sources. However, the Union saw this as a dangerous tool as it would not only cause people to clamor for it, but it would also make the Union's mission to take down the Miracles worthless to keep using the tool. Despite this, Luca wants to pursue his idea. And he originally was going to join the Shadow Decree, but Abigail got in the way and made him choose her side.

Truth Unveiled Event

    Li Xiao
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/li_xiao.png

Voiced by: Josh Portillo
Attribute: Flow

Captain of the Radiant Guards and formerly a close friend to Yun Chuan.
  • Arc Villain: Of the Truth Unveiled event.
  • Birds of a Feather: He saw himself in Yun Chuan, as both of them were judged by society for being commoners. He also connected with Yun Chuan due to their desire to deliver right justice on a corrupt system.
  • Despair Event Horizon: While working for the Radiant Guards alongside Yun Chuan, Li Xiao was driven to despair when he learned that everything he achieved up until then would be easily discarded by his own higher ups for being a lowly pawn. Working at the lighthouse that overlooked the Chaos Miracle was just another way for the sentries there to await death because of its proximity to the Miracle, meaning he (or Yun Chuan) was disposable fodder while alerting people to save themselves. This made him go insane and trigger a false alarm that caused distraught people to break into a stampede, which caused deaths.
  • Driven by Envy: He was very envious of Yun Chuan's righteousness and admitted that he was better than himself, because Yun Chuan had the courage to rise up as a hero and even came back as one after he had disappeared but feels like he himself can't hope to become one after the false alarm incident was caused by his small moment of weakness.
  • It's All About Me: Though he didn't exactly cause Yun Chuan's apparent death, his desire to claw his way up the social ladder from being a former orphan on the streets and believing that Yun Chuan had died and taken the truth of the false alarm incident Li Xiao himself caused out of stress, he still wants to ensure that Yun Chuan is really dead to keep his post as captain, because at least he's got power and won't be tossed aside by his superiors.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Though he was ready to die for triggering the false alarm, Yun Chuan took pity on him and took the blame, getting imprisoned in Nether Gaol and used as a lapdog. Li Xiao had initially tried to help Yun Chuan, but the stress of being just a pawn to his superiors caused Li Xiao to undergo a Face–Heel Turn and tried to get Yun Chuan killed so the truth about the false alarm would die with him.
  • Please Kill Me If It Satisfies You: After being defeated by Yun Chuan, he asks Yun Chuan to kill him to repent for his sins. Yun Chuan, not having any of it, decides to punch him good for what he did to Li Ling, Tang Xuan, and himself, but he chooses not to kill Li Xiao, because he believes Li Xiao must live with the guilt to become a better person for it and still has a chance for redemption.
  • Precision F-Strike: During one of the cutscenes in Truth Unraveled where he’s being confronted by Yun Chuan, he uses the word “shithole”, which is not only the harshest swear the game has used up til that point, but also rather out of place with the rest of his demeanour.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's very hard to talk about him without going into detail about what happened with the false alarm incident.

Evening Glimmer Event

    Gordon

Alexa's right-hand man and second in command of the Golden City casino.

  • Arc Villain: Of the Evening Glimmer event. He's the one responsible for framing Intisar with a false murder charge, and he wants to oust Alexa from her position as head of the casino by using a weapon system no one but him knows about to get rid of her.
  • The Starscream: He wants to take over the Golden City by using a weapon system to get rid of Alexa. Thankfully, Intisar puts a stop to his plan and he's implied to have been arrested.

Dream of Redemption Event

    Fan Liang

Jiang Man's former fiance who worked for the Union. Appears in the Dream of Redemption event.

  • Floral Motifs: Carries a spider lily around in his jacket pocket. It ties him in with his fiancee Jiang Man, who is heavily linked to the same flower (especially after Fan Liang's death). His forced Esper transformation even gives him powers revolving around the spider lily.
  • Posthumous Character: He is dead since Jiang Man became an Esper. Due to becoming a mindless monster chasing Embla and Fu Shi in a secluded area, he was killed by Embla trying to protect Fu Shi.
  • Tragic Monster: Though he is successful in turning into an Esper, he becomes a giant monster that can barely has any conscience before fully losing it.

Dusk & Dawn Event

    Cory (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

A young boy from Tabaton who lost his parents to the Whispering Miracle.

  • Adorably Precocious Child: He's a little cheerful kid who looks up to heroes, wanting to become like them.
  • Came Back Wrong: Though he was revived by Divine Waves, this caused him to become "trapped" in Tabaton where the Divine Wave Transmitter is located at, so leaving the town means death. Furthermore, like all the other residents there, he has to take illegal Esper serum in order to avoid becoming a monster.
  • Death of a Child: He was already dead prior meeting Leora and Ye Suhua, but he was revived through Divine Waves restarting his heartbeat.
  • Delicate and Sickly: He's afflicted with a condition that ties him to the Divine Wave Transmitter and can only live within its range. Furthermore, he has to take Esper serum to avoid becoming a monster.
  • Face Death with Dignity: After he learns about his connection to the Divine Wave Transmitter, he tells Leora that he'd rather die a brave man if being a hero is out of the question. Whether this is good or not, the device is left on, keeping him alive at the expense of being tied to Tabaton and his "medical" treatment.
  • Head Pet: He carries an unnamed cat on top of his head who reacts to his emotions.
  • Hero-Worshipper: He idolizes heroes and wishes to become one like his parents were (despite the fact his parents weren't heroes but disposable human fodder for Debia), practically jumping at the call when he learns Leora and Ye Suhua are from the Esper Union. But once he learns that his future to live is uncertain, he resolves himself into being happy for being a brave man to Face Death with Dignity instead. Luckily or not, he continues to live when the transmitter is left to continue working.
  • Walking Spoiler: His whole condition and being previously dead are two huge things that unravel the dark secret behind Tabaton, making it hard to talk about him in detail.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: Should he leave Tabaton or not take Esper serum in time, he will die.

    Barros (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

The mayor of Tabaton and Honorary Uncle to Cory.

  • Big Bad: Zigzagged. Ultimately, he cares about the Miracle refugees of Tabaton, but he still wants to detonate the Divine Wave Transmitter to see who will survive and become an Esper even if the chances for that happening are astronomically low.
  • Honorary Uncle: Though not related by blood, he's this to Cory. He falls into Creepy Uncle territory due to feeding Cory lies about his parents being heroes who actually were just poor citizens placed into Debia's Defense Force full of other lower people meant to be used as fodder for protection.
  • Not the Fall That Kills You…: Despite falling from a very high watchtower, he somehow survived the fall and is able to fight Leora after injecting himself with a lot of Esper serum to become empowered (and a monster).
  • The Social Darwinist: The Struggler type: he looks down on Debia's society for driving the Miracle refugees into being expendable fodder and then completely abandoned them to their fates, so he founded Tabaton to solve it. Unfortunately, he saw the Divine Waves as a means to help said people into becoming Espers and become independent from having to live within the radius of the transmitter, even if it would mean that only very few people would turn into Espers from the ensuing explosion from detonating it killing the rest.
  • Walking Spoiler: His true motivations could have hidden this whole entry.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Averted in the end. He wanted to grant the refugees a chance to survive from being tied to the Divine Wave Transmitter, but knowing that the chances for them becoming Espers through the otherwise very fatal detonation were low, he still wanted to go ahead with it.

Sea of Sorrow Event

    Masato

A former Marshal who went on to become a wealthy man. He investigated the burning of Geran City's wealtiest family.

    The Butler (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Real Name: Kokuzan

The former wealthy family's butler who served them up until their mysterious demise. In truth, he is the mastermind of the event and leader of The Crows, having controlled the siblings' father through the brainwashing music box to get his entire money donated to a "charity" and force him to burn his home down.

  • Arc Villain: Of the Sea of Sorrow event, inviting the last people connected to the incident from 15 years ago to dispose of them through Yamato and Yuuhime.
  • Brainwashing: His main method to control all his subordinates is through a magic music box. Yamato finds out two weaknesses of the music box: it doesn't work on deaf people, and constant use of it through a short time weakens its power on its targets.
  • The Butler Did It: If you felt there was something odd with him just being known as "Butler"...
  • Killed Off for Real: He's tricked by Yamato by using the music box too many times in a short time to weaken its hold on Yuuhime for her to kill him off. She snaps his neck.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: He is normally presented with closed eyes. When his identity is revealed, he opens them to reveal his red eyes.

    Harutani

  • Exhausted Eyebags: She has had these since she was the nanny, as a sign that the events from 15 years ago left a lasting bad impression on her.
  • Foreshadowing: One little post on her Swiftspace account mentions her recalling her past seeing deaf children. It turns out Yamato had been deaf since the incident, having injured his ears.
  • The Gambler: She has a bad habit of frivolously spending a lot of money on scams.
  • Nice Girl: She is into helping out children with disabilities, with deaf children included.

Immortal Fire

    Nicholas (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

A wealthy and successful business man who was running for mayor of Utgard. Former owner of the Golden City.

  • Arc Villain: Of the Immortal Fire event. He was trying to gain political power by using a twisted version of The Needs of the Many by sacrificing his opposing protesters (and many of Mateo's soldiers) to show "how" well Raine's Wall could defend Utgard with his Divine Wall plan.
  • Asshole Victim: Mateo ends up killing Nicholas because he deemed Nicholas far too dangerous for Utgard to have as mayor due to Nicholas' lack of sympathy for people unwilling to support him, going as far as to have them killed unwillingly under false pretenses to show the rest he's in the right.
  • Broken Pedestal: He idolized Mateo ever since they were in school together and was moved by Mateo's courage, cementing their close friendship. Unfortunately, Mateo learned of his true plans and disowned him as a traitor, which resulted in Nicholas casting him aside and Mateo killing him in front of a bunch of news reporters.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: He's fed up by Mateo's complete trust on Xuan Pi over himself and tried to blame her into working for the Shadow Decree in front of many reporters to get rid of her and blemish her name, which only causes Nicholas to get a fiery hand straight into his heart for his troubles.
  • It's All About Me: Behind closed doors he's an egotistical narcissist who badmouths Mateo's second in command, Xuan Pin, for disagreeing with him. He can't even see her as an equal, only a naive child in his eyes. He arrogantly believed that Mateo will come back to him if his plan had succeed, and he's quick to anger when Alexa mocked him about his problems.
  • The Needs of the Many: He wanted to expand Raine's Wall by two kilometers into a residential area of 200,000 people, though said people are poor people barely living by. He explained that there needed to be harsh sacrifices to ensure Utgard would still stand, but this was all just an excuse for him to gain an upper edge in the elections.
  • Shrinking Violet: Used to be one when he was younger and was bullied for it.
  • Slasher Smile: When he reveals his intentions to Mateo on stalling for time to kill soldiers and protesters alike for a "better" demonstration of the Divine Wall.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Despite knowing the Miramon would attack the towns outside Utgard, he continued the construction of the holy shield to protect the lives of everyone in Utgard. Turns out to be averted, greatly averted, because during the third act, he revealed to Mateo that he planned to wait until the Miramon attacked the homes of the rioters to show the people of Utgard the importance of his Holy Shield. He's willing to sacrifice the lives of the Wall guards, he'd even lied and manipulated his own best friend, Mateo. In the end, he cared more about himself and winning the election than the people who once trusted him.

Sands of Guilt

    Malik

The new if unpopular Chief Marshal of New Mylo.

  • Disappeared Dad: His dad was a former Marshal who died under Javid's orders, which are the source of Malik's hatred for Javid. His father willingly sacrificed himself to protect the fleeing children, however.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: The disastrous event from four years ago made the Mylo citizens see all Marshals as nothing more than scum who only look after themselves that they have no respect for Malik. By the end of the story, public opinion is slowly starting to see Malik in a better light, albeit they don't trust the rest of the Marshals as much.
  • Hidden Depths: He's a closet Destiny's Kiss fan.
  • No Sense of Humor: His only humor only seems to bring up bad dad jokes.

Endless Summer

    Xia

Lian's mother, who moved with her daughter to Estero Harbor after a falling out with her husband.

  • Awful Wedded Life: The exact details about this are unclear, but at the very least, her husband started to neglect their daughter as years went by.
  • Dead All Along: Lian was never successful in saving her mother, but her soul was forced into a Lotus-Eater Machine by her daughter's awakened Esper powers and then placed in a "Groundhog Day" Loop to "keep" her alive.
  • Good Parents: She truly does love Lian and does want her to pursue her dream of being a professional diver. It's just that Xia is known to be difficult to get her emotions across and she may snap if Lian doesn't recognize all the hard work she's been putting for their sake.
  • Workaholic: Raising Lian alone was hell for Xia, who took over many jobs and pushed herself into exhaustion to make ends meet. More so to support Lian's professional diving expenses.

Warm Winter

    Mark

Hilda's undertaker father, who had died several years prior by Miramon.

  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: He taught Hilda about how death is not the end of things but rather a new beginning.
  • Posthumous Character: He's been dead for a decade due to Miramon having killed him during his work trips.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: His work kept him so busy that he missed seeing his daughter during her birthday when Accro was destroyed by the Cube Miracle.

Return, Dreaming

    Daphne

Farrah's mother, who was considered dead until Farrah happened to find her living in Bremis. Daphne herself believes her daughter is dead.

  • My Greatest Failure: After her husband was killed and their home ravaged by the Cube Miracle, she accepted to send Farrah to an orphanage so she could have a better future, but the truth was that the orphanage was a research facility where Farrah suffered many gruesome experiments to gain a second Esper power. Though Daphne had a feeling the offer seemed shady, she still regretted her decision, which led to a heartbroken Farrah deciding to never see her again.

Cellblock Chaos

    Amber

A new assistant warden recruit working under Jin Qiu at Nether Gaol. Unlike Jin Qiu's toughness on inmates, Amber has a more idealistic view.

  • Dramatic Irony: For someone who wants to uphold justice and sees Jin Qiu as someone who abuses his position with his interrogations, she's no better than him: firstly, she holds personal interrogations with Toland and turns off the cameras to have more privacy, which Toland exploits by making a bogus story that his Shadow Decree contact is Jin Qiu in order to put heat between Amber and Jin Qiu while no one can corroborate Toland's claims; secondly, Amber buys Toland's fake bunny story and gives him an obsidian bunny statue off-cameras, which later proves to be Toland's ticket out of his cell by fashioning a lockpick to release himself from Divine Wave restraints; and lastly, even after all's said and done, she still believed that Toland had a chance at redemption, which ends up costing her dearly with Jin Qiu turning into a tragic scapegoat to Toland's escape and is sentenced to prison.
  • Hope Bringer: Despite Jin Qiu's distate for her less harsher methods on interrogating inmates, he truly believes that people like her need to be in Nether Gaol and wishes for her not to become as cynical as he is today.
  • The Idealist: Compared to Jin Qiu's cynicism, she believes that inmates at Nether Gaol still should have a small light of hope by treating them less harsher than Jin Qiu does. Unfortunately for her, Toland takes advantage of this to his favor in escaping.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She doesn't take it well when she realizes Toland set himself free through fashioning a lockpick from the obsidian bunny that Amber gave to him for his fake bunny story. Realizing she was fooled and Jin Qiu became a prisoner for nothing, she swears revenge on Toland by hunting him down to clear Jin Qiu's name.
  • Naïve Newcomer: She's treated as such by everyone else at Nether Gaol, laughing at her for even criticizing how Jin Qiu runs the maximum security prison. Toland even exploits her naivete so he can escape while also forcing Jin Qiu to take the fall for a crime he didn't commit, but rather Amber indirectly made happen.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: In Summer Beats, Jin Qiu was released from prison out of nowhere. He assumes that it was because of Amber pulling some strings, but he hasn't been able to contact her since he was released.

Inescapable Fate

    Feng Ling

Feng Xun's younger sister, who fell into a coma by falling down the stairs since she was a child.

  • Blackmail: The Shadow Decree tried to force Feng Xun into joining them for his divination power by kidnapping his sister, but their attempt was foiled. However, they tried a second time, which caused Feng Ling to freak out and fall down the stairs that put her in a coma.
  • Identical Stranger: For some reason, a dream Feng Xun once had depicted her looking exactly like Jade from Fireworks Celebration. Feng Ling doesn't even resemble her actual unique young girl look.

Farewell Fireworks

    Li Tiangang

One of the several council members of Tangton. He advocated for Yu Ran to become a council member despite his Esperhood. Has a very personal past with Su Jue.

  • Bait-and-Switch: While he may look intimidating, has a past with Su Jue when he personally enjoyed torturing her, he is not the Big Bad of Farewell Fireworks. It's actually his Beleaguered Assistant Qin Shui trying to manipulate Su Jue's vendetta on Li Tiangang to kill him in cold blood so that Tangton is convinced that Espers are a threat.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Once he caught Su Jue and put her behind bars, he subjected her to very sadistic torture; from cutting her to damaging her throat with liquids. Once she catches him, she is more than ready to do the same to him as revenge before trying to kill him.
  • It's Personal: He despises Su Jue because she impersonated him in appearance using her Esper powers and proceeded to humiliate him doing embarrassing actions that got recorded and spread on the internet, which severely damaged his reputation.
  • Killed Off for Real: He's murdered by Qin Shui when Su Jue is given a chance to drop her act and save herself from a harsh sentence using Yu Ran's help.

    Ren Xian

One of the several council members of Tangton. He disapproves of Espers being treated as equals.

  • Arc Villain: He's the overall human villain of the Tangton Anomaly event, who's trying to ensure that Espers don't receive equal treatment in Tangton. He's also the one responsible for trying to kill Ikki's father to conceal the truth about the dangers of lingering too close to the Miracles.
  • Final Boss: Becomes this by the end of Items of Fate when he has Chu Yao turn him into a monster to try to kill Yu Ran.
  • Hypocrite: Items of Fate reveals that he's been secretly hiding his Esperhood from the public, but his status is more volatile that it needed to be held at bay using dubious experiments. Once Fu Shi perfected the Esper Supressant, he decides to hoard the data and its creation all for himself rather than helping any other victim from increased Esper Sync Rate complications. Even worse, he had kidnapped random people with no families and forced them all to suffer from Esper Sync Rate issues by injecting them with Esper Serum to turn them into guinea pigs to perfect the Esper Supressant.
  • Never Found the Body: His ultimate fate is becoming a living bomb by Chu Yao, blowing up the secret pharmaceutic factory and essentially getting rid of all evidence of his secret dealings. Yu Ran decides to write his unknown death as him becoming a fugitive for his crimes to lessen the panic to the public.
  • Power at a Price: Relying on Chu Yao's divine power causes him to become a ruthless monster bound to Chu Yao as his puppet, which ends with Chu Yao turning him into a bomb despite his protests.
  • Walking Spoiler: Just knowing a little more about him sets off a whole world of revelations.

    Qin Shui

Li Tiangang's well-meaning assistant.

  • Beleaguered Assistant: Li Tiangang has a low opinion and treats him like trash for not being ready to answer some unexpected situations. This treatment causes Qin Shui to plot his boss's death at the hands of Su Jue.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He wants to exploit Su Jue's vendetta on his boss by having her kill him and prove that Espers must be monitored in Tangton.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: He secretly plots to have Espers be treated as glorified animals in constant watch in Tangton, despite what his friendly attitude may say. That's without mentioning he wants to have his boss murdered for abusing him, which he's forced to take matters into his own hands when Yu Xu intervenes in Su Jue's assassination.
  • Freak Out: When hidden surveillance footage reveals that he carried off a bound and gagged Li Tiangang to murder him during fireworks drowning off his gunshot, he immediately panics and goes pale in the face.
  • The Man Behind the Man: He's working under Ren Xian's orders.

Exposé

    Yuki

A scientist stationed at a garrison close to the Chaos Miracle, father to Ikki. Since the incident, he's been in a coma.

  • Awful Truth: His findings investigating the afflicted guards at the garrison pointed out that being in close proximity to the Chaos Miracle increased Esper Sync Rate, which would end with the afflicted essentially losing their humanity. Unfortunately, he was afflicted by the side effects and ended up in a coma over a decade.
  • He Knows Too Much: Ren Xian doesn't want Yuki to be alive and inform the public about what happened at the garrison, attempting to take him out discretly from the shadows.

Dawn of Darkness

    Yasser

One of the last Raya researchers. He is being targeted by The Fangs, who seek to decipher the Raya Tablets.

  • Connected All Along: He knows who Sloan is due to her past as a murderer and her connections to Vashti.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Despite being promised protection by the Union, Yasser was threatened by Elif to stay on her side by slowing down her pursuers or else she'd kill his family in retaliation.
  • Taking You with Me: Resigned to Elif hunting down his family if he's left alive without taking down her enemies, he turns on Amir's team by latching onto a fatally injured Sloan while he's revealed to be wearing a dynamite belt that he sets off. He fails to pull it off when Amir becomes too desperate and stabs him to force him to let Sloan go, allowing Fatimah to pull her and Amir away from the ensuing explosion.

Roy (Unmarked Spoilers for Dawn of Darkness)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/humanroy.png
"I am Roy. Kin to the gods, a herald of their will, and their servant — an Eidolon."

An Eidolon from the gods who guided the Raya to undergo the Miracle Trial.

  • Almighty Janitor: She happily plays the role of spectator with godly powers, not bothering to help anyone she guides during the times her help would be basically cheating (such as a fight or solving a difficult puzzle).
  • Ambiguous Gender: Roy has a feminine appearance, is referred to with she/her pronounsnote , and is called a woman by the narration at the end of Part 1, but she says in Part 2 that her physical form is a borrowed one and tells Elif not to call her a lady, plus there's the fact that she has what is normally a man's name. The topic of her gender doesn't come up again after that, so it's unclear what she really is.
  • Birds of a Feather: She finds common ground with Sloan's history with her dead friend Vashti when she reveals the Star Pyramid was a gift she gave to a poetic friend of hers, even inscribing a short poem on the talisman as a good luck charm to keep her friend safe from harm. Ironically, this was before Roy saves Sloan (carrying the Star Pyramid) from falling to her death with Elif and being told about Vashti.
  • But Now I Must Go: By the end of the Chaos Miracle story, she departs from the Esper Union, knowing that her role was fulfilled.
  • Chaotic Neutral: In-universe. She's neither good or bad nor has she set decisions of her own, preferring to test out anyone on their choices. While having been disgusted by Elif's way of trying to undertake the trial, Roy has no objections helping out the Esper Union in participating. She still isn't willing to go far beyond being a spectator for even the Union when she's noted to calmly watch as they fight Momo's forces within the Chaos Miracle.
  • Freudian Excuse: After the Raya's disastrous consequences made by one individual acting for themselves, it's implied that she wasn't going to let Elif claim Pneuma after seeing how underhanded she was on taking the Miracle Trial by sacrificing others for her own goals.
  • God in Human Form: Roy's body is not her real one, merely using the body of a Raya woman as a vessel.
  • Humanity Is Flawed: Her overall opinion on humanity is based on how the Raya acted during the Miracle Trial. Though they were on their right track, it took one unnamed individual looking out for themselves to screw their chances at godhood, disgusting Roy in the process. However, she's a friend to Nakia, and it's thanks to her that she helps him - as the Guardian of the Chaos Miracle - remember its past as Nakia. It's also implied that it was Nakia who made the Star Pyramid and wrote the poem on it.
  • There is Another: During Plane of Illusions, Yu Jing casually asks her if she's the only Eidolon around, to which Roy (in a good mood) answers that there are six more out there, but unlike her, the other six are less than willing to aid humanity with the trials.
  • They Call Me MISTER Tibbs!: You have to address her as "Eidolon" if you want her to tell you anything, anything else and she'll refuse to help. Even the game itself seems to have gotten the hint; her text box went from calling her just "Roy" in Dawn of Darkness to "Eidolon Roy" during the Chaos Miracle Arc.
  • You Didn't Ask: She never gives Elif exact instructions about the sanctum simply because she didn't ask if she was in the right sanctum with Pneuma in it, even expressing some delight when she turns Elif's own words on cheating to get the trial started against her.

Way of Mastery

    Xi Shan (Unmarked Spoilers)

A former Chunhui Academy student who was taught by Lü Shang.

  • Big Bad: Of Way of Mastery, tricking and kidnapping Yu Jing and Li Ling to enact his Revenge on Lü Shang.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: He's taken out by an unknown assassin while cradled in Lü Shang's arms.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: Before he can reveal the name of the Shadow Decree member who used him to learn the roster of Union Espers going to the Chaos Miracle, he's Impaled with Extreme Prejudice behind his back by an unknown assailant.
  • Misplaced Retribution: He believed that Lü Shang knew that his Chunhui Academy class was going to be forced to become mercenaries for Tangton's venture into the Chaos Miracle where all of the students except Xi Shan died, despite Lü Shang being left in the dark about the Council's true motives.
  • Psycho Serum: He drinks Esper Serum to gain power, but unlike many previous examples, Lü Shang is actually capable of subduing an Esper's Sync Rate from going into overload for a while until he can use Esper Suppressant.
  • Revenge: After surviving the expedition to the Chaos Miracle, he states that revenge towards Lü Shang was the only thing keeping Xi Shan going.
  • Sole Survivor: Out of the whole first graduating class from Chunhui Academy, he was the only one left alive. The others were all sent to their deaths in the Chaos Miracle by the Tangton Council, something he blames Lü Shang for and vows to have his revenge.
  • Tragic Villain: He joined the Shadow Decree (or tricked into joining it) by an unknown member who took advantage of his grudge towards Lü Shang.

Final Elegy (Unmarked Spoilers for Final Elegy (Part 1)!)

    Mako

Momo's twin sister, who died during the Artificial Esper Project conducted by the Shadow Decree. Momo's Trial involves dealing with a sudden case of "Freaky Friday" Flip between both sisters.

  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Momo's Trial involves being flung to the past before the experiment that killed Mako but granted Momo her Esperhood. The twist is, both sisters swap bodies, and Momo tries to desperately avoid Mako's deathly fate.
  • Posthumous Character: She's been long dead since Momo became an Esper.
  • Swapped Roles: Momo's attempts to convince Mako to escape so Momo can survive the experiment give her a nasty case of Laser-Guided Karma when Mako-in-her-body schemes to just let Momo take the fall over her if it means Mako can survive and gain Esperhood. This causes Momo to lose the Trial and be punished by slowly turning into a Miramon.

    Nakia

A Raya hero of old who overcame several trials. Li Ling's Trial involves reliving Nakia's life while the former is forced into a Laser-Guided Amnesia.

  • And I Must Scream: As Nakia descended into being a monster, it was implied several times for hundreds of years that he had some sense of self every time he was done killing victims. By extension, Li Ling was forced to relive all this as well.
  • Baleful Polymorph: His slow transformation into a Miramon beast by the curse. A mysterious Miracle entity forces him to become the current draconian Guardian of the Chaos Miracle, promising to set him free...when the world is destroyed.
  • Connected All Along: It's heavily implied that Nakia is the friend that Roy talks about in Dawn of Darkness, which would make him the man that she created the Star Pyramid for. It's later confirmed that the reason Roy joined the expedition in the first place was to finally see Nakia again.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Nakia had already gotten some Pneuma in his body, which helped him slow down his Miramon transformation for over a decade. Unfortunately, all this did was cause him too much emotional grief as the slow way to his transformation simply made him lose his self during many disastrous bouts of rage that started with killing a close friend followed by many more hunters trying to kill him over the span of hundreds of years.
  • The Hero: He believed himself to be this to the Raya, which was a case of Laser-Guided Amnesia. He actually didn't consider himself to be a hero or anything, but what he dedicated himself was to ensure the land which his people lived on was a safe place to be.
  • Horned Humanoid: He has dragon horns as well as a tail, which were loose hints that he'd turn into the Guardian of the Chaos Miracle.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: The mysterious Miracle entity offered him a chance to return to his human form once the world was destroyed, but Nakia had originally turned the offer down despite all the suffering he went through. The entity wasn't pleased at all by his decision, forced him to turn into the guardian, and stripped him from all the good memories of his previous life to leave him as a bitter supernatural dragon entity. It's thanks to Roy who helps him remember his lost memories.
  • Tragic Monster: Nakia ended up failing a Trial, causing him to slowly become a Miramon monster that kept living on for hundreds of years slaughtering all the people who tried to put him down.

Winter's Embrace

    Vina

Nathaniel's mother, who suffers from PTSD due to her husband's death and the Shackle Miracle destroying Hazlitt.

  • Good Parents: She dotes on her son - who's 28 - as if he were still her little kid. Luckily, this isn't a case of My Beloved Smother.
  • Meaningful Name: "Vina" is close to the word "vine," which is the basis for Nathaniel's Esper powers.
  • Trauma Button: Even the picture of a Miramon sends her into a panic. When her son transformed and came home, she became horrified seeing his face and pushed him out of their home. A year later, she managed to overcome her trauma going to theraphy and ended up reconciling with her son when he happened to save her from being mugged in an alley.

    Fitch

An orphaned kid who lost his parents recently.

  • Defrosting Ice King: He starts off as very aloof and criticizing towards Nathaniel, but by the end, he considers Nathaniel to be "his" Snow Knight and doesn't get scared of his deformed face, much to Nathaniel's happiness.
  • Kids Are Cruel: He puts the Snow Knight on a pedestal, but seeing Nathaniel fumbling up his initial impression of the knight causes Fitch to become overly critical of him. Even so, after Nathaniel saves Fitch from slipping down a slope, he starts to see Nathaniel in a better light.
  • Orphan's Ordeal: He lost his parents 2 years ago. What makes this more tragic is that they died during the Winter Solstice Festival, turning the joyous occasion into a depressing reminder for Fitch.

Moonlit Fireworks

    Danielle

A new intern at the Esper Union's Logistics Division wishing to work there.

  • Hero-Worshipper: She admires all of the heroic Espers at the Esper Union, especially Feng Nuxi (since she's technically her boss there before becoming her boss when getting a job for her discoveries at Moonshade Lake) and later Zhou Hong, when she learns that it was thanks to him that she managed to survive the Battle of Utgard except for her parents.
  • Naïve Newcomer: She begins her internship making several rookie mistakes until she starts to get the hang of things thanks to Zhou Hong opening up to her.
  • Tastes Like Friendship: She manages to befriend a wary Sui Zai by offering him a decorative snake bun during the Moonchase Festival.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: She criticizes Zhou Hong on the fact that he doesn't have the "spirit of the Esper" she believes Espers have when he was unwilling to stand up against Ling Dao. Only when his daughter reveals that he was a surviving soldier at the Battle of Utgard does she realize she went too far calling him out and apologizes for it.

    Ling Dao

The head of the Logistic Division department where Zhou Hong and Danielle work at, who is also under Feng Nuxi's leadership.

  • Bad Boss: Other than his short temper, he couldn't care any less about conducting an investigation at Moonshade Lake unless definite proof of danger happening there was concrete enough. He was more than willing to keep things for the fair's security as they were because then, if Proteus hadn't crashed the celebration, he'd be promoted at work for his job.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Somehow, one of the many fireworks that Zhou Hong and Danielle set off just so happened to accidentally fly all the way where he was and blew up on his face (and only his, as nobody else was injured during the ordeal), leaving him pretty hysteric and rabbid after he learns they did it. Zhou Hong even lampshades to Danielle if she was wondering if it was karma at work, though she tries to deny it.
  • Reused Character Design: He looks no different than any other common office worker in the game if we don't count the hilarious aftermath with a firework blowing up on his face.

    Ze Yu

Zhou Hong's daughter, who often looks out after her dad and grandfather.

  • Missing Mom: We know she lives with her dad and her grandpa, but she says nothing about her mom, nor does Zhou Hong ever mention having a wife.
  • Mr. Exposition: She's the one who tells Danielle (and by extension the player) about Zhou Hong's time during the Battle of Utgard, explaining that he transferred to a desk job because the battle left him with PTSD.

Lost Sands

    The Imprisoned (Unmarked Spoilers)

Clementine of Death

An imprisoned woman within the Withering Miracles who was previously an Eidolon before being stripped of her title and held prisoner in The Beyond.

  • Chaotic Neutral: In-universe. She defines herself as not being an enemy nor an ally to Espers. However, she ends up striking an alliance with Hyde in secret.
  • The Chessmaster: It was thanks to her that Espers were alerted about the changes in the Withering Miracle; specifically luring Hyde by calling him with her voice and later using Lapis's power of rewriting the rules while also using Ollie's Meta power to sever the ties binding her in The Beyond.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: She has it against God for trapping her in the Withering Miracle for trying to dissuade her fellow Eidolons from following His will. After being set free, it's implied that this is her main motive.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: She was sealed within the Bennu Heron's dead remains trapped in The Beyond. From there, she orchestrated a long complicated plan to lure the right Espers into the Withering Miracle to set herself free.

The Miracles

Strange giant monoliths that can suddenly appear out of nowhere, bringing devastation and spawning the monstrous Miramon. Their arrival also heralded the birth of Espers, their connection to them still unknown.

    In General
  • Apocalypse How: The closer a Miracle spawns near a city, the more devastation it will bring. That's without counting how each Miracle has a special destructive attribute.
  • Big Bad: It's because of them that the world is in such a dangerous situation for years.
  • Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: Their exact origins are so unknown that they are this.
  • God Is Evil: According to Nakia's memories, a mysterious entity gave him the option to become the Guardian of the Chaos Miracle as a Sadistic Choice to go back to being human once the world was destroyed. However, the entity wasn't going to play fair. Perhaps out of disgust that Nakia declined the offer, it forced him into becoming the guardian and stripped him from all his good memories to ensure he'd remain bitter with humanity by only having the awful memories somewhat dormant within him.

    The Miramon

Monsters that spawn from the Miracles and seek to kill any living being they see.

  • Always Chaotic Evil: The Miramon are always intent on killing people and destroying anything on their path. They will always hunt down any living being and literally will not try to do random destruction (it confuses them to deal with non-living beings like robots).
  • And I Must Scream: The earliest a human or Esper has turned into a Miramon, the closer they are to barely hanging onto their memories until all of it succumbs and they go completely feral. The process is implied to take a few years until fully assimilating into a Miramon.
  • Awful Truth: There have been many examples that Miramon are revealed to be corrupted people and Espers. Espers themselves are a breed of Miramon who still retain their humanity, but they can turn into a Miramon should their Esper Sync Rate rise up too much. Normal people in close proximity to the Miracles slowly but surely become corrupted until they transform out of the blue. Some of the Miramon are implied to be people who failed the trials within the Miracles and were punished by turning into Miramon. There is also the fact some Miramon have been Miramon for over a thousand years.
  • Damage-Sponge Boss: Of the unkillable variety. Falsetto Fantasy Boss Miramon cannot be defeated, but they must be dealt a lot of damage to score higher against other players.
  • Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: Besides some of the boss Miramon, most of them haven't been formally met in a story event outside their battle modes.
  • It Can Think: Some of the boss Miramon like the Dark Star Lord and Count Sonica are capable of talking. On a lesser extent, several Esper stories reveal that even the lowest Miramon are able to discern where people have been to when reaching locations that used to be inhabited by humans. They are revealed to be former Espers who were lost to corruption. The longer they've been a Miramon, the wilder and chaotic they are.
  • Palette Swap: Andras is just a white version of the black Withering Messenger from the Anomaly event.

The Guardian of the Chaos Miracle (Unmarked Spoilers for Final Elegy (Part 1))

The supernatural entity in charge of the Chaos Miracle, giving out the trials to people trying to overcome them.

  • Amnesiac God: The entity that created it took away all the good memories of its time as Nakia while barely leaving the awful memories dormant, which served to make it a no-nonsense monster with zero sympathy for humans undertaking the trials.
  • Captured Super-Entity: Although it guards the Chaos Miracle as its ultimate owner, it's stuck within the Miracle. Bi Tao is able to find out that it harbors a sense of envy and need to be free from the Miracle, and so he strikes a deal with it to perform a Grand Theft Me in exchange to overcoming the trials.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: It's implied to have thrown a huge curveball for Momo's trial after Bi Tao tried to manipulate Yun Chuan's trial to learn what the trials were about as consequence for Bi Tao's meddling.
  • God Is Evil: As neutral as it appears, it has no tolerance to people trying to cheat through the trials and will punish them for doing so. Then again, its case of Laser-Guided Amnesia has left it a bitter entity who barely can recall all the horrible times rather than the forgotten good times.
  • Mercy Kill: Once Roy helps it remember its past as Nakia, it tells her to kill it to set itself free from the binds of the Miracle, while also granting her a scale needed to revive Li Ling.
  • Was Once a Man: Its true identity is Nakia himself, having turned into the Guardian by a higher entity who also stripped him away from his good memories.

Bennu Heron (Unmarked Spoilers for Lost Sands)

A monster created inside the Withering Miracle, borrowing the souls of its prey to come to life.

  • Boring, but Practical: It's a Miramon bird that isn't very durable, but what makes it incredibly dangerous and bothersome to beat is its Healing Factor pulling it constantly from death.
  • Healing Factor: It can constantly revive itself whenever it's killed.
  • Variant Power Copying: Its combat techniques evolve as it keeps dying, borrowing battle techniques from the souls it absorbed to come to life. At one point, it's stated it suddenly started using Drew's own techniques.
