    The Otherwordly Man (The Player)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/player_sprite_2.png

An amnesiac man who suddenly found himself in Gyrate and revealed to be from another world where Espers and Miracles don't exist. He stars in the second story mode.

  • Animal Motifs: The fox helmet he wears represents his cunning to avoid danger, in other words, he's sly as a fox. It only gets more symbolic when he's paired up with the bunny Esper Sachiko.
  • Bittersweet Ending: He's able to make a transformed Sachiko keep her humanity and save her life, but she's confined within the Gate of Promotion, and he loses his chance to go back to his world. Furthermore, shutting down the Miracle Nexus has caused all the Miracles across the world to go haywire, making survival for humanity even harder. Even worse is that Gaius is revealed to be a high-ranked Shadow Counsilor bent on eliminating humanity for reasons unknown and is plotting to further his agenda. At the very least, the player chooses to join the Esper Union to truly save the world in some way.
  • The Call Knows Where You Live: His indifference to be The Chosen One to save the world doesn't let him get a moment of rest, as the Shadow Decree and Miramon want to hunt him down either way. By the end, he chooses to defend the new world as an Esper Union member as a promise to Sachiko.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Though not on the same extent as an actual Esper, he's has more strength than the average human thanks to his half-monster status.
  • I Choose to Stay: He promises Sachiko to stay in the new world and defend it from the Miracles, now that they've started to act up all over the planet.
  • The Chosen One: According to Raven, he's prophesied to save the world, though he couldn't care much about it since he'd rather return to his world.
  • Cool Helmet: He's given a fox helmet to wear and to hide most of his face that's Miramon, which is briefly seen as having jagged rocks on the back.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: He's a half-human, half-Miramon being, though he was formerly a normal human before finding himself in Gyrate.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: He doesn't remember exactly how he wound up in the world of Espers, but he's at least able to recall culture from his own world.
  • Late Character Syndrome: The game had already a story mode with Brynn as the main protagonist until he comes by the second story mode, and he's unplayable to boot because he's not an Esper but a strange Half-Human Hybrid.
  • No Name Given: He doesn't have an official name, but he will be known as whatever the player's username is. That being said, the Swiftspace user account is not him by virtue of being able to chat with Shadow Decree members.
  • Properly Paranoid: Right from the start, he is very wary about making any sort of connections with anybody as he's being targeted by the Shadow Decree and monitored from the shadows on his every move. It's also the reason why he can't fully trust Sachiko until it takes several life-crucial moments for him to finally think of her as a friend.
  • Refusal of the Call: As Raven tells him, he's The Chosen One who will save the world of Espers, but he'd rather go back to his world because he feels indifferent about risking his life in a world where he doesn't belong. Of course he suffers from the Shadow Decree and Miramon trying to kill him anyway. After Sachiko's sacrifice, he decides to accept the call to defend the world of Espers for her.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Of all things, when Sachiko knocks out a bunch of guards while showing off that she's being a spy infiltrating Abigail's office, the player tells her that she's not Ezio.
  • The Strategist: He's a natural-born strategist capable of formulating good ideas to avoid needless confrontations and tricking people up, which makes Raven wish that he'd join the Union. She gets her wish.
  • Too Much Alike:
    • Anesidora comments to him that he's just like her in that she's able to understand the call of her "kind" (in her case, Miramon, allegedly), but in his case, he can understand the Miracles themselves calling to him.
    • He has a lot in common with Sachiko: when she was an orphan, Sachiko also used to be very distrustful of people because she was ridiculed by other orphans for her getting abandoned by her mother, until she broke through her mindset through her motherly teacher Tang Na, making her wonder why it takes so long to finally trust someone (echoins a sentiment the player had told to himself before trusting Sachiko).

Espers

    In General
  • An Adventurer Is You: Each Esper has four roles: Fighter, Support, Controller, and Defender.
    • The Fighter role is the DPS class, specializing in dealing heavy damage. Both melee and ranged combat count under the Fighter role, although some Fighter Espers are based in one or another.
    • The Support role provides status buffs and healing for the party.
    • The Controller role specializes in inflicting debuffs and crowd control on the enemies to weaken them.
    • The Defender role is the Tank role, designed to take hits with their high defense and HP. They also tend to strengthen the team's defense and be taunters so specific enemies can only damage them.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Espers can really get out there in terms of skin, eye, and hair color.
  • Magical Species Transformation: Espers are humans that have undergone a transformation into superpowered beings. Espers are all associated with a mythological figure, so their transformation reflects their host in some way. This can mean some remain mostly the same appearance-wise, while others might grow new body parts, turn into furries, gain unnatural coloration, and so on.
  • Mythical Motifs: The Espers are all representations of mythological figures from Greek, Egyptian, Norse, and Chinese mythologies, ranging from gods, heroes, and monsters. As a result, their abilities and appearances are based on what mythological figure they host their powers while modifying them for a music-focused Urban Fantasy setting. In particular, Espers based on mythical monsters or Egyptian gods (which have animal heads) tend to be Beast Men (i.e Freddy, Drew, Sander), have Little Bit Beastly traits (i.e Berenice, Ren Si), or have animal companions based on whoever they represent (i.e Jacob and his serpent companion).
  • No Full Name Given: With the exception of the Saunberts and the Espers of House Ramses, the non-Chinese Espers don't have a confirmed last name.
  • One-Steve Limit: There's a handful of downplayed examples where characters who have very similar names to each other.
    • For playable Esper pairs, there's Laura and Lauren, as well as David and Javid.
    • Some Espers have names similar to NPCs, like Lin Xiao (playable) and Li Xiao (NPC), as well as Nick (playable) and Nicholas (NPC).
    • There's even some Espers with names similar to their divine benefactors. Helena is the Esper of Helen of Troy, while Cang Jie's Esper is named Cang Ji.
  • Rule of Seven: The Esper Seven, who are said to be the first seven people in Grandis that received their divine powers. These seven people are Gaius, Feng Nuxi, Hyde, Embla, Pritzker, Narmer, and Raven.
  • Sibling Team: If two or more Espers are siblings, expect their divine benefactors to also be siblings or heavily connected to each other (Baldr and Hodur, Izanagi and Izanami, Sun Wukong and the Six-Eared Macaque, etc.). This only seems to apply to blood siblings though; adopted siblings (like Laura and Ollie) and siblings by choice (like Leora and Elaine) don't fall under this trend.
  • Tactical Rock–Paper–Scissors: Each Esper can have one of the four attributes: Inferno, Wind, Flow, and Shimmer. Inferno beats Wind, Wind beats Flow, Flow beats Inferno, and Shimmer takes both neutral damage from and against the other three elements. As a result, Shimmer-attuned Espers have lower gacha rates.

Esper Union

Shadow Decree

Evening Sounds

A group of Espers who operate a bar and discreetely gather intel from oblivious patrons, led by Celine.

    Melanie (Medusa)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/melanie_medusa.png
"Money or my love? You can only give up one."
Pink Beauty

Voiced By: Tanya Saari (English), Akari Kitou (Japanese), Kim Down (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Rarity: Rare
Role: Controller

The bartender of Evening Sounds who has had a bad history dating men. She is a controller Esper who can petrify foes.

  • Fatal Gaze deals damage to an enemy based on Melanie’s ATK, with a chance to transfer a debuff to the target.
  • Covenant of Punishment is a passive ability. Each attack reduces the target’s AP by a certain amount. If the target’s AP is below a certain percentage, Melanie will inflict Petrification.
  • Queen of the Night deals damage to all enemies based on Melanie’s ATK, with a chance to reduce their AP. When ascended, if one of the targets is debuffed, their AP will be reduced further.

  • The Bartender: She’s one for Evening Sounds.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Though not related by blood, she feels that it's her job to aid other women with failed romances to find solace with her. Even listening to others' tales of failed love makes her feel anger.
  • Cool Shades: Her pink visor helps her as a Power Limiter, as having it on prevents her skill to petrify people from going off by accident.
  • Medusa: What she is obviously styled after, including the snake hair and the power to petrify others.
  • Otaku: You wouldn't know at first, but she's a huge comic book fan.
  • Shipper on Deck: She tries to hitch Camille with Lewis or Bardon at a singles mixer with the theme being playing frisbee. Unfortunately, Lewis gets too competitive with Camille to care about romantic feelings, and Bardon indirectly friend-zones her by proposing an alliance as a team.
Melanie: What kind of singles mixer is this?
  • Taken for Granite: As the Esper of Medusa, her ability to do this is a given.
  • Woman Scorned: Her love life is described as “volatile”, and not only do her own troubles with men make her mad, but listening to the women at her bar crying over men who have dumped or cheated on them just makes her even angrier, to the point where she believes it’s her job to protect her fellow women from scummy men with her Esper powers.

    Celine (Siren)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/celine_siren.png
"My dear fans. What would you look to listen to today?"

Voiced By: Amy Lovato (English), Aoi Koga (Japanese), Lee Myung-hee (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Epic
Role: Controller

A famous songstress and leader of Evening Sounds. She is a controller Esper who can put foes to sleep.

  • Serene Melody deals damage to an enemy based on Celine's ATK, and has a chance to put the target to sleep.
  • Sound of Nature removes a debuff from all allies and gives them SPD Up. Ascending this ability lets Celine give everyone DEF Up as well.
  • Slumber deals damage to all enemies based on Celine's ATK. It also lowers their AP and has a chance to put them to sleep.

  • Animal Motifs: Her design incorporates elements from both fish and birds, namely the fin-like garments flowing off of her and the feather in her hair. This ties into the siren motif because of the differing interpretations of the creature, some being part bird like a harpy and others leaning more fishy like a mermaid.
  • Awesome by Analysis: She has had zero singing lessons and has only learned her trade just by examining other singers. However, this makes her a horrible singing teacher and needs to actually learn from real singing teachers to teach others.
  • Forced Sleep: Her kit revolves around inflicting the Sleep status on her enemies.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: Her second career blurb notes that she's constantly pursued and admired by the men who visit her bar, which she exploits by draining them out of their money by singing encores.
  • Hidden Depths: Ruthless as she is, she can be a source of inspiration, such as advicing a singer not affiliated with her bar to continue her singing career because it's her own decision and shouldn't be entirely decided by other people trying to convince her to quit. In fact, she had gone through a similar experience herself.
  • Knowledge Broker: She exploits the use of her bar as a means to learn about anything and everything about anyone to stay ahead in life.
  • Irony:
    • She's modeled after the Greek siren creature and yet she isn't easy to deem as siren-looking unless you know how sirens had different interpretations on their looks. A side tale has her talking to Biondina, who's literally a siren-like Esper.
    • Despite being her bar's top singer, she lacks the necessary singing lesson basics that even her own singers know more about than she does.
  • Making a Splash: She can use water to attack.
  • Only in It for the Money: Has a rather dim view of the world due to believing that money gets anyone anywhere, making her into a rather ruthless businesswoman that she only does encores for patrons who spent a lot on the bar. Bizarrely, this is a similarity in line to how sirens of Greek mythology were portrayed as ruthless monsters who baited and killed sailors with their alluring voices.
  • Panty Shot: Her skirt is dangerously short that it's pretty easy to see underneath them when she's doing acrobatics.
  • Water Is Womanly: She's very elegant and ladylike, and her powers allow her to control water.

    Camille (Hati)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/camille_66.png
"Don't underestimate me! When I get mad, I even scare myself!"

Voiced By: Mia Zanotti (English), Nozomi Nagumo (Japanese), Jang Mi (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

A streamer and waitress for Evening Sounds, using the internet to document her freedom after dealing with a life of Helicopter Parents. She is a Fighter Esper who specializes in inflicting Bleed.

  • Claw Attack deals damage to an enemy based on Camille's ATK and extends all enemy debuffs for an extra turn.
  • Double Claws attacks all enemies, dealing damage based on Camille's ATK and inflicting Diseased (unresistable). If a target has Bleed, Bleed damage is immediately applied and the debuff's duration is reduced. When ascended, if Bleed damage is successfully applied this way, the target will also be stunned.
  • Wolven Smash inflicts Sear and Bleed on all enemies, then attacks them (damage is based on ATK). If an enemy has Sear when Camille attacks, they receive another stack of Bleed.

  • Animal Motifs: Wolves, as Hati was a wolf in Norse mythology. Though, she’s far more cutesy than ferocious compared to the other canine based Espers.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: As she warns in her menu quote, if she's angered, she can get wild.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Although not older than her superiors, Camille is protective of them that she can go as far as pranking a man who used Melanie as one option of others to see which one woman he'd hitch to by going out with all of them in secret of each other.
  • Character Blog: Camille is a VTuber when she’s not waitressing, and she has her own Twitter and Instagram accounts, as well as a YouTube channel.
  • The Gadfly: Pranks are listed as her favorite thing, and she has a tendency to pull them on people who rub her the wrong way.
  • Helicopter Parents: She grew up with a bad set of these. They chose everything she said and wore, and sent her to the Esper Academy after her transformation because they wanted her to be a hero. This style of parenting took a heavy toll on Camille, and she eventually decided enough was enough and fled home the night she turned 18.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: The fans of other popular streamers see her in a bad light for being more popular and try to ruin her reputation by harassing her and expose her real nature behind a cute and innocent girl, though she states that she never defined herself as cute and innocent when she's pushed into her Rage Breaking Point seeing them harassing Melanie. Fortunately, this only earns her more adoration from her fans for willing to sacrifice her streaming popularity to protect Melanie.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: Her summoning quote has her say that she’s not a puppy... right before suddenly getting distracted and chasing after a frisbee.
  • Little Bit Beastly: She has wolf ears, paws, and a tail.
  • The Prankster: Her favorite pastime.
  • Unexplained Accent: For some reason, she's got a very thick Scottish accent in English.

Graywater Bounty Hunter's Guild

A neutral faction led by Triki who rules over Graywater. Despite being neutral, the guild isn't a bad group of people but go with other rules not used at the Esper Union. And yet, they are on good terms with the Esper Union and the Shadow Decree (at times).

    Ren Si (Black Tortoise)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ren_si_black_tortoise.png
"It's up to me to keep everyone safe."

Voiced By: Rory Morris (English), Satoshi Inomata (Japanese), Kim Shin-woo (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Epic
Role: Defender

An herbalist and one of the guild's directors, fiercely loyal to Triki. Ren Si is a tank that can cause team-wide disruption with his special taunt mechanics and by shattering enemy defenses.

  • Turtler damages an enemy and has a chance of lowering their defenses.
  • Life-giver passively activates when Ren Si's health reaches 1 HP; he'll now perform a counterattack if struck by an enemy, then once the ability ends, he regains a percent of his max health. It also refreshes the cooldown on True Warrior
  • True Warrior damages all enemies based on his defense value and has a chance of inflicting taunt on the whole enemy team. This chance doubles if the enemies' defense is lower than Ren Si's.

  • A Father to His Men: People working under him are intimidated by his appearance and fear expulsion when failing their assignments. Instead, he takes the time to look after and even provide special training so that they may continue working. And if a recruit endangers their life more while still getting a dangerous job done, he is more than willing to request for a deduction on his own salary as responsibility and then transfer that deduction as a bonus for said recruit.
  • A Little Bit Beastly: He has horns and a tail like a dragon.
  • Animal Motifs: The tortoise with a snake tail, symbolizing his ties to the Black Tortoise; one of the Chinese Dragon gods who protected Kyoto on the east.
  • Beneath the Mask: He is rather tough on the exterior, but people who earn his respect get to show him his true self.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: He had mocked Triki into his idea of making his guild, until Triki defeated him easily and earned Ren Si's complete respect. Mind you, Ren Si is an Inferno esper with a huge defensive advantage while Triki is a Wind esper incapable of dealing too much damage.
  • Draw Aggro: True Warrior can taunt all enemies.
  • Green Thumb: He's an expert herbalist who treats sick people using his know-how. Unfortunately, he doesn't know the symbolic nature of plants.
  • Hellbent For Leather: Decked out in a mean leather jacket to compliment his thuggish appearance.
  • Horned Humanoid: Has two small horns on his head.
  • Last Chance Hit Point: When Life-giver activates, it grants Ren Si the Standoff buff, meaning that he will always retain one HP and cannot be knocked out until his next turn.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: That shield of his is almost large than him. And he's already a big dude.
  • The Man Makes the Weapon: Although his shield can withstand attacks and cannot be broken, he points out to two curious members of his team that his shield doesn't do the work but rather himself being a team player, as shown as how he lets them use his shield to protect themselves from his attacks. Despite Ren Si not getting through his own shield, his subordinates were literally cowering in fear behind it and preferred to stay put during his assault without doing anything else productive (but then again, they are naturally terrified of him anyway).
  • Mighty Glacier: He is meant to protect his side from attacks with his high defense. He can even attempt to remain on the field with Standoff and heal himself a bit once it wears off.
  • No Social Skills: He himself admits that he isn't dense, but he is completely oblivious to the symbolic significance of the plants he's so devoted to that he mistankenly gives Melanie flowers meant to be given as signs of love coming from him rather than just gifts for her guild (it didn't help that she has had a bad history with dating men). He tries rectifying this mistake by sending her an apology card...and a cactus (because it symbolizes "fierce independence, self-reliance, and strength") that shreds her fingertips. Cue the angry screams.
  • The Promise: He is completely a man of his word when he must fulfill promises, even if said promises are from bets he loses to and they are rather humiliating (such as standing in the foyer while carrying a vase on his head for an hour, and when it fell down, he decided to repair the vase just to finish the remaining time).
  • The Scapegoat: His family was tarnished by a crime they didn't commit and he set out to find evidence to clean their name. However, the head of his family convinced him that pursuing the truth had far more consequences and made Ren Si take the whole blame so that the family could move on. Due to this, he was exiled from his town with his name tarnished forever.

    Xiao Yin (Azure Dragon)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xiao_yin_sprite.png
"There are two things in life I enjoy: one is swordsmanship, the other...is traveling the world."
Dragon's Roar

Voiced By: Ryan McManus (English), Kōhei Amasaki (Japanese), Seok Seung-hoon (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Epic
Role: Fighter

A previously ill man who enjoys traveling the world to see everything. He is a Fighter esper who can hide away to avoid being targeted and deal extra damage.

  • Shadow Sword attacks an enemy, dealing damage based on Xiao Yin's ATK. It also gives Xiao Yin SPD Up.
  • Dragon Gasp attacks an enemy thee times, each hit dealing damage based on Xiao Yin's ATK, while also extending Stealth if he happens to have it. Stealth prevents Xiao Yin from being targeted by enemy attacks, and he'll only take damage from attacks that hit the whole party. While in Stealth, Xiao Yin does more damage, and he'll absorb AP from his targets while dealing damage. When ascended, he'll begin the battle with Stealth already active.
  • Blossom Sword attacks an enemy four times, each hit dealing damage based on Xiao Yin's ATK. He alo has a chance to reduce the target's AP, and upon doing so, he will gain Stealth.

  • Afraid of Needles: One of many that he doesn't like to get. Even rubbing alcohol on wounds makes him squirm, because it all reminds him of his days at the hospital.
  • Animal Motifs: The dragon, referencing the Azure Dragon, who was one of the Four Guardians from Chinese mythology that protected Kyoto on the east. This goes in line with Ren Si, Li Guang, and Lin Xiao, who are modeled after the other three.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Although he is very often friendly, seeing him without his smile on is a sign that people should get the hell out of his way.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Invoked at times. Though he could be seen as loafing around, it turns out that it's his method of finishing important missions. He sees talking to kids as a good source of intel, and the places he goes to happen to be visited by people that his guild must make contact with.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Though his appearance mostly takes on dark cues, he is perhaps the nicest among to the guild.
  • Delicate and Sickly: Spent his whole childhood confined to a hospital bed due to a congenital heart condition. However, he transformed into an esper, helping him recover from his condition.
  • Horned Humanoid: Has two long horns on his head.
  • Manchild: What people see him as because of his penchant to loaf around and play with children.
  • The Reliable One: Regarding places of interest, as he gives Triki many interesting locales in Gyrate when the latter was certain he saw there was all to see. Triki jokingly refers to Xiao Yin as a walking Travelpedia.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Zora's red.
  • Sweet Tooth: Enjoys sweets a lot, which also helps him to be a favorite person to the children of Graywater.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He doesn't wear a proper shirt, instead wearing a cropped jacket with full sleeves and a belt around his midsection. However, the scales near his chest and hips can enlarge and multiply to cover his exposed skin, though this is only really visible with his 3D model and not his 2D artwork.
  • Walking the Earth: His hobby is outdoor fun, wanting to go out and explore the world due to being bedridden in a hospital since his whole childhood.

    Triki (Loki)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/triki_loki.png
"I know a bad deal when I see one."

Voiced By: Rex Anderson (English), Toshihiko Seki (Japanese), Jeong Jae-heon (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Controller

The Hunter's Guild Captain who renovated the desolate city of Graywater and turned it into a neutral faction, this sly Esper is classy and merciless.

Triki is a controller Esper who's talented when it comes to messing with foes, with his passive preventing his attacks from missing and punishing enemies who clear their teammates' debuffs heavily.

  • Greenflames attacks an enemy twice, dealing damage that's based on Triki's ATK, with the second hit deaing far more damage than the first one. Each attack transfers a debuff from Triki to the target, and if the transfer is successful, then there's a chance that the attack will stun the target.
  • Gambit is a passive that ensures that Triki's attacks won't miss. If an enemy clears their teammates' debuffs, they will lose a chunk of their HP and all buffs alongside becoming Petrified.
  • Revolver attacks all enemies three times, each dealing damage equal to a percentage of his ATK. There's a chance of dispelling a single buff from all targets and inflicting Miss Rate Up. When ascended, the first strike of this ability extends the duration of all enemy debuffs.

  • A Father to His Men: He does everything he can for his people through his business gains. He even wants to equip them with weapons not because it may not work on the Miramon, but because he - ironically against his own beliefs - wants to give them "hope" rather than seeing them cower in fear and be sitting ducks waiting for Esper help which could devolve into chaos for Espers if expectations aren't met. There's a reason he practically made Graywater a bustling city under his command.
  • Childhood Friends: His careers reveal that he and Eira grew up in a "hopeless" orphanage together. He protected her and supported her musical dreams, while she cared for him without any strings. He was shocked when she joined the Union, but by all accounts still considers her a friend.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: His creepy appearance and Joker-like face don't really represent how nice he can be.
  • The Fashionista: He is up-to-date with the latest fashion trends and has been repeatedly scouted to sponsor clothing by fashion companies, but he always turns them all down.
  • The Gambler: Has shades of this, with a voice line talking about betting and his animations using things like coins and a roulette wheel.
  • Good Luck Charm: Invoked. His horns actually shed material, which was repurposed into necklaces that the Salisman Corporation used behind his back to make a profit on his own subordinates buying them (even Ren Si fell for it). He is less than pleased to find out about it and looks forward to "kindly" ask for a "reasonable" cut of the profits.
  • Hidden Depths: While he's undoubtedly concerned with himself, his friendship with Eira and willingness to protect her indicates that there's some good to him, yet. His careers also mention that he occasionally helps the poor or the needy, and considers things like dreams naive, but still precious.
  • Horned Humanoid: He has a pair of giant bright green horns on his head.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is Triki, a play on the word trick. This fits how he's the host of the trickster god Loki and that Triki climbed up to the top in Graywater with his cunningness.
  • Might Makes Right: Strongly believes that the strong can only survive, while the rest who hope, dream, and wish for sincerity are "the sentiments of children."
  • No Shirt, Long Jacket: Wears a leopard print jacket with bright green fur trim and no shirt underneath it.
  • Orphanage of Fear: Lived in one alongside Eira after their parents died to the Miramon, with him protecting her from bullies.
  • The Social Expert: He can read people like a book. It's thanks to him that Ren Si has become more astute (though Ren Si is still rough around the edges).
  • Taken for Granite: His Revolver passive petrifies any foe who tries to lift up debuffs rather than letting debuffs clear out by turns.
  • The Trickster: Loves to toy with his friends and enemies. Unsurprisingly, as he is modeled after Loki, the Greek god defined as a trickster toying with his own fellow gods and opponents.
  • Troll:
    • Although he does help Eira enjoy a day off (she had forgotten her own birthday over her preparations for a charity concert event), it didn't help that he did so while making her look all over his house (and front and back lawns) for 2 hours for a bracelet he allegedly lost...that he put in a safe. And he only stopped her when she was at the edge of her patience by looking into his trash. She clearly was not amused. He was.
    • As for battle purposes, his kit revolves around annoying and causing mayhem on the enemy with crippling debuffs and even extending existing debuffs.

    Zora (Amunet)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zora_amunet.png
"I found you, so stop struggling."

Voiced By: Madison Brunoelher (English), Nao Ojika (Japanese), Kang Sae-bom (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

The rumored Shadow Hunter and Triki's right hand woman in the Graywater Bounty Hunter's Guild. Though she may display a cold disposition as a lone wolf who pushes others away, deep down, she is a child at heart. She is a fighter Esper who can follow up attacks with Keen Edge.

  • Keen Edge deals damage to all enemies based on Zora's ATK with a chance to inflict Diseased. This attack heals Zora for a certain percentage of damage dealt, and does more damage if there are fewer targets on the field.
  • Rift Assault attacks an enemy three times, dealing damage based on Zora's ATK and dealing bonus damage upon landing a critical hit. Zora also gains SPD Up, and has a chance of following up with Keen Edge; if her HP is above a certain amount, this chance is a guarantee. When ascended, his ability has a chance of dispelling buffs from the target.
  • Galaxy Rush deals damage to all enemies based on Zora's ATK and inflicts Buff Blocker. Like Rift Assault, she has a chance of following up this attack with Keen Edge; if her HP is above a certain amount, the chance is a guarantee.

  • Animal Motifs: The bunny, which she is very fond of herself.
  • Badass Longcoat: She wields an astral longcoat from which she can conjure weapons out of nothing from it to attack her enemies. This is a representation of the Egyptian goddess Amunet, who represented the obscurity and invisible power inherent in the nothingness that predated creation.
  • Blow You Away: Her main element is wind. Ironically, it's not her actual attribute as a flow Esper.
  • Clothing Combat: As stated above, her weapon is essentially her cloak, which she can conjure spears and projectiles from as well as teleport with it.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her orphanage was burned down and her mentor was killed by Catherine.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Of the Bloody Hunt event tale, as she pursues Catherine for destroying the orphanage where Zora lived at and also killed her mentor.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: During the Bloody Hunt event tale, she begins to see Xiao Yin as a close friend and decides to drop finishing off Catherine in favor of keeping him alive from enemy reinforcements.
  • Foil: To Catherine.
    • Zora grew up in a loving orphanage while Catherine grew up in an Orphanage of Fear that made her into a Troubled Abuser.
    • From the above experiences, Zora became a lone wolf slowly defrosting over time, while Catherine utterly abhors companionship and likes to instill fear and despair on others.
  • Hidden Depths: Her fondness of bunnies and anything related to them. Although she doesn't find bunny merchandise appealing, it makes her remember her happy days at the orphanage.
  • I Work Alone: Due to her Dark and Troubled Past, she avoids social interaction because she fears to be hurt from losing people close to her. Xiao Yin has tried to defrost her, though.
  • Leitmotif: Jumpin'.
  • Mystical White Hair: Her white hair helps accentuate her galaxy motif and her lone wolf status.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: The disaster that struck the orphanage she used to live at has made her into a lone wolf who wishes to avoid making friendships so she doesn't go through the pain of losing people again.
  • Power Floats: Her Esper powers give her the ability to float and dash in the air.
  • Revenge: She seeks to kill Catherine for the destruction of the orphanage where Zora lived at.
  • Teleport Cloak: In addition to summoning weapons from it, Zora can also pop in and out of her galaxy cloak herself.

The Saunberts

The wealthy and influential political family from Utgard. With Narmer as their head and Abigail as the mayor of Utgard, they rule the city.

    Zelmer Saunbert (Sekhmet)

"I kill to protect."

Voiced By: Melba Sibrel King (English), Yuu Ayase (Japanese), Kim Chaeha (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Rare
Role: Fighter

A young lady fiercely devoted into protecting her adoptive father Narmer, Abigail's adoptive niece. She is a fighter Esper who exploits debuffs on foes in order to deal more damage.

  • Beast Attack attacks an enemy twice, with each hit dealing damage based on Zelmer's ATK and a chance to inflict DEF Down.
  • Hunter attacks an enemy three times, each hit dealing damage based on Zelmer's ATK with a chance to transfer a debuff to the target. When ascended, if Zelmer lands a critical hit, she will inflict Bleed.
  • Scarlet Tides attacks an enemy, dealing damage based on Zelmer's ATK. If the target is debuffed, Zelmer does bonus damage based on how many debuffs they have.

  • Animal Motifs: The lioness. She is modeled after the Egyptian goddess of war Sekhmet, who was depicted as a lionness.
  • Anxiety Dreams: She has had recurring nightmares of losing her adoptive father Narmer, which has made her overly paranoid of his safety, until she came to the conclusion that it's best to protect him rather than to worry about it all the time.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: The main reason why she's so devoted to Narmer is because he is genuinely concerned and cares for her, believing that he didn't need to do what he did for her.
  • Brutal Honesty: Prefers to be as direct and blunt as possible interacting with others.
  • Daddy's Girl: Her love for her adoptive father is so strong that she's willing to kill if it will protect him.
  • Declaration of Protection: For Narmer. The Egyptian goddess Sekhmet was known to be protective to the pharaohs that she even continued to protect them after her death from the afterlife.
  • Happily Adopted: By her adoptive father Narmer into the wealthy Saunbert family.
  • Kick Chick: Her main weapon is her feet, which are literally large lion feet geared up in greaves.
  • Little Bit Beastly: She has an lioness' tail and what's implied to be feline legs going by her shoes.

    Narmer Saunbert (Ra)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/narmer_ra_3.png
"It's perfect weather for exploring the Miracle."

Voiced By: Kieran Flitton (English), Show Hayami (Japanese), Kim Sol (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

One of the Esper Seven who were the first people to become Espers in Grandis. An enigmatic, wealthy socialite and current head of the Saunbert family. Deeply taken by mythology and history, he has made it his primary goal in life to reveal the truth behind the mysterious Miracles. He is Abigail's cousin and Zelmer's adoptive father.

  • Sunwheel attacks one enemy, dealing damage based on Narmer's ATK and applying ATK Up to himself for 2 turns.
  • Wheel of Fate is a passive ability that applies a stack of Burning Sun to Narmer at the start of each of his turns, +2 for each buff currently applied to him (max. 8 stacks). Burning Sun is an undispellable buff that increases the power of Emblazoned Strike. When ascended, he gets 2 stacks of Burning Sun at the start of his turn instead of 1.
  • Emblazoned Strike attacks all enemies, dealing damage based on Narmer's ATK and consuming all stacks of Burning Sun in the process. Each stack consumed increases the damage by 7%. When consuming 5 or more stacks, the attack ignores 40% of the target's DEF, and when consuming 8 stacks exactly, the ability's cooldown is reduced by 1 turn.

  • All There in the Manual: His status as a member of the Esper Seven hasn’t been brought up in game, but was instead confirmed in an old web event.
  • Animal Motifs: His Cape Wings and mask make him resemble a bird, referencing the Egyptian sun god Ra, who was usually portrayed as a hawk or a falcon.
  • Cape Wings: The top layer of his cape can become a functional pair of large wings.

    Abigail Saunbert (Frigga)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/abigail_sprite.png
"Roses, money, or power... I'll have whatever I want."

Voiced By: Lisa Suliteanu (English), Kanna Nakamura (Japanese), Kim Bo-na (English)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Support

The ambitious head of the Saunbert family, major of Utgard, Narmer's cousin, and Zelmer's adoptive aunt. Under this lady's professional air, she hides a conniving streak in her ties with the underworld to ensure she stays in power both in wealth and politics.

  • Thorny Brambles deals damage to an enemy based on Abigail's ATK. It also heals Abigail for a certain percentage of her max HP, while putting the target to sleep.
  • Rose Blessing gives Abigail Recovery. It also grants all allies DEF Up as well as a shield. The shield's health is based on Abigail's max HP and the allies' lost HP.
  • Queen's Gift increases an ally's AP. If the ally has died, they will be revived and then healed for a percentage of their max HP, and when ascended, if the ally hasn't died, Queen's Gift gets its cooldown decreased. All allies will also gain ATK Up and Absorb, a buff that heals its carrier upon taking damage.

  • Action Girl: The animated opening depicts her using gymnastic skills to fight back with her vines.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Of the Ruler's Law event. Hell, she even gets to have a special opening intro whenever the game is booted up during the event; an honor she debuts with.
  • Big Good: In the second story mode, she opposes Gaius's wish to get rid of all humans and keep Espers around. Since she is a businesswoman, though, she's only doing it in a business point of view. At least she cares.
  • Body Horror: Like Jiang Man, she has a flower growing out of her left eye. However, it looks less like a bodily abnormality because it runs up to her head as if she was wearing a unique headband.
  • Cutscene Power to the Max: In her special character video, she single-handedly deals with a band of thugs all by herself. In-game, however, she's supposed to support her allies, as she lacks offensive power.
  • Dramatic Irony: During the Ruler's Law event, she tries her best to gain the public's favor to remain as Utgard's mayor by investing into her weapons division by having Luca continue with his Esper-boosting research. His research ends up causing quite a stir in Utgard by the crazed Espers relying on his prototypes, forcing Abigail to seek other measures to protect the people and even rely on the Esper Union to arrest Jin Yuyao and putting a definite stop to Abigail's scheme to streghtening her weapons division. Instead of facing the consequences, it turns out that her heroics during the event caused the public to support her that she ended up winning the elections by a landslide.
  • False Friend:
    • She was Jin Yuyao's closest friend until Jin's financial difficulties allowed Abigail's family to seize all of Jin's unclaimed assets. What happened was that Jin's father had bought a lot of Nexus Crystals that, at the time, were considered worthless and hazardous, until she asked Abigail to help by buying it all at a cheaper price than what Jin's father had bought it, not realizing that the worth of Nexus Crystals was far higher than Jin had realized that allowed Abigail to amass a fortune and create her own weapon factory division.
    • During the Ruler's Law event, after Alexa is kidnapped, she decides to toss her away because Jin Yuyao's offer would be extremely damaging financially to Abigail. However, it turned out that Alexa used body language to convey where she was kidnapped and exploited Jin's hatred for Abigail to lure her into a trap while Abigail went to personally rescue Alexa.
  • Green Thumb: Her Esper powers are based on the rose, related to the Asgardian goddess of marriage Frigga.
  • Hidden Depths: The end of one of her bounty stories reveals that as a child she wanted to be a pilot, but was unable to qualify due to her left eye being blind. After playing in a flight simulator during the opening of a science museum, she indulges herself in her wishes to be a pilot and feels like she's finally fulfilled her childhood dream.
  • Hypocrite: Jin Yuyao (and to a lesser extent Odette) calls her this to her face when Abigail has changed to caring about people rather than her finances and political influence, unlike how shrewd she used to be when she had scammed Jin and her family.
  • No Last Name Given: Averted. Just like House Ramses's Espers, she has a last name shown.
  • Older Than She Looks: Despite being 35, she looks incredibly young. One of her bounty stories has her get mistaken for a child by an Evening Sounds bouncer, and then mistaken for Celine's daughter when the latter takes Abigail out to dinner as an apology for the bouncer incident. She attempts to fix this issue by changing her makeup to appear older and buying some high heeled shoes to look taller.
  • Something about a Rose: She has a very heavy rose motif. Not only do roses adorn her outfit, but she sits on a floating chair made of roses and even has them growing out of her eye. Her powers involve a lot of rose petals and rose thorns, and her theme song is called Reine de Roses (Queen of Roses in English).
  • Tabloid Melodrama: She had a bad experience eating at a top-reviewed restaurant on Gulp, where she ate the food served but found it disgusting. At the same time, she was being photographed by paparazzi who went on to provide tabloids with the scoop that Abigail had horrible taste in food. She does turn this around when she finds the food of a soon-to-close food stall very good and she allows herself to be seen by paparazzi in order to indirectly promote all food stalls from staying afloat from bankruptcy.

Larkspur Detective Agency

A famous detective agency set in Utgard, led by Tevor.

    Parmi (Ninsun)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/parmi_ninsun.png

Voiced By: Alexis Kubin (English), Kiyoka Suko (Japanese), Lee Da-eun (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Epic
Role: Controller

A wanderer from the eastern continent who can easily empathize with others but worries others by her flighty mind. Secretary to the detective agency. Parmi is the first Esper empowered by a Mesopotamian God to be added to the playable roster.

  • Dreambell Curve deals damage to an enemy based on Parmi's ATK, and gives Recovery to the ally with the lowest HP percentage.
  • Pipedream Echo deals damage to all enemies based on Parmi's ATK. Each point of SPD deals extra damage, also based on ATK. All enemies get an AP reduction and there is a chance to inflict ATK Down. When ascended, Parmi does extra damage to incapacitated enemies.
  • Fantasy Crater deals damage to all enemies based on Parmi's ATK. Each point of SPD deals extra damage, also based on ATK. This attack also has a chance to stun.

  • Breaking Old Trends: She is the first Esper of a Mesopotamian God, rather than one of Dislyte's standard four mythologies (Greek, Norse, Egyptian, and Chinese).
  • Deuteragonist: In Return, Dreaming, she assists Tevor in his task to find out why Farrah became comatose, with Parmi taking more focus while diving into Farrah's dreams.
  • Dream Weaver: Her powers allow her to construct any dreams to put into people.
  • Gone Horribly Right: When Tevor comes to a dead end trying to solve a murder case that would seriously boost his agency's popularity and his only witness is the victim's son who went mute from shock, Parmi offers to soothe the boy's trauma with a dream of his mother encouraging to be strong and speak up. Thanks to the boy telling Tevor the clues he needed to find and arrest the murderer, the agency is prominently displayed on the first page of all newspapers. The problem is, Pamir's dream services become the whole reason people go to the agency and request her powers for selfish reasons rather than detective work.
Tevor (lying on a pile of files): This is NOT what I had in mind!
  • Instant Expert: She learns one of Tevor's detective moves to try to help a woman find her lost dog using her husband's body language, seemingly learning that the man turned out to have been so drunk and let the door open for the dog to flee by accident. Though she apparently did a good job, she completely couldn't understand why the woman ran out screaming at her husband.
  • The Klutz: She's clumsy, with her appearance often causing little accidents in the agency.
  • Little Bit Beastly: She has cow horns, ears, and a tail, a reference to how Ninsun, the mother of Gilgamesh, was also the goddess of wild cows.
  • Manic Pixie Dream Girl: Energetic and full of life, which is met by her clumsiness and flighty mind.
  • The Social Expert: It's second nature for her to make many friendships with many people because she's always seeing the positive side of things, which can greatly constrast Tevor's policy on honesty and Intisar's bluntness.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Tea, her favorite being milk tea. She's also very adept on making brand new tea flavors that she saved a once-poor tea business from going bankrupt (it liked to be flashy with its cups rather than preserving tea's flavor being bogged down by the decorations of the cup).

    Intisar (Kauket)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/intisar_kauket.png
"With the right information, you can control anything."

Voiced By: Aimee Smith (English), Aino Shimada (Japanese), Park Yi-seo (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

A genius hacker from Utgard who yearns for her freedom and has absolute faith in her hacking skills. Moving forward within the shadows, she has discarded her immaturity and complacency she once had. Technology consultant for the agency. She is a fighter Esper who can gain Stealth and inflict debuffs on one enemy.

  • Code Exploit deals damage to an enemy based on Intisar's ATK, and has a chance to inflict MISS RATE UP.
  • Trojan Horse deals damage to all enemies based on Intisar's ATK, and does more damage if there are less enemies on the field. It extends enemy debuffs (save for incapacitations) and she'll gain Stealth at the start of combat.
  • Transmit Virus deals damage to an enemy based on Intisar's ATK and hits multiple times, inflicting DEF Down. Then, it damages all enemies based on ATK while inflicting ATK Down. Intisar will gain Stealth, and if she already has it, she'll reduce its duration in exchange for dealing extra True Damage while attacking. Depending on her target's type, her attacks will deal damage based on the target's Max HP (can only be triggered a certain amount of times per turn). When ascended, Intisar will also gain ATK Up.

  • Animal Motifs: The snake, which represents the Egyptian goddess Kauket.
  • Bittersweet Ending: By the end of Evening Glimmer, she blows her chance to clear her name by choosing to save Tevor from being shot dead by Gordon over letting the security system function by blowing it up. Though she has no way to prove her innocence, a thankful Tevor decides to "hire" her as a technology consultant at his agency to give her food and shelter for free to keep her safe from authorities, which she gratefully signs on for.
  • Birds of a Feather: She adores the Samurai Flower series, of which Li Guang is also a huge fan of and happened to be Intisar's anonymous forum friend until finding out themselves in person.
  • Challenge Seeker: She enjoys breaking through security programs and beating hard video games. On the subject on the latter, she will stubbornly try to beat video games tailored to be lost no matter how unlikely they are to be beaten using just her natural gaming skills without trying to make them easier with her hacking skills.
  • Clear My Name: In her debut event Evening Glimmer, she's falsely accused of killing a fellow programmer for the Golden City's security program. The other two people involved in the creation of the security program are also being targeted, as they are the only ones beside her who have a chance of learning that the security program is secretly housing a hidden weapon program that they didn't create.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Stars in the Evening Glimmer event, focusing on her quest to clear her name of a murder she didn't commit but was framed for.
  • Floating Limbs: In a cutscene from Evening Glimmer where she’s taken off her coat, her right elbow is entirely missing, and her arm is held together by some kind of snake shaped jewelry. How this happened or how her arm is able to function like this is currently unknown.
  • Gamer Chick: One of her favorite hobbies is video games. Notably, although she likes hacking and breaking programs in two, she will never attempt to break a game due to her code of honor for them.
  • Head Pet: What was once believed to be a fancy hat was actually revealed to be a living giant ass snake biting onto her head that doubles as a makeshift helmet for her to run her hacking skills. She doesn't seem disturbed in the least.
  • Hikikomori: Non-depressive example. She stylizes herself as one because she mostly sees no point in interacting in person with people if it's just easier to contact them through the internet. Also, as long as she has soda and food, she finds no need to go outside for long.
  • Jerkass: Zigzagged. She and Tevor have a falling out of their deal to work together because Tevor is more concerned about making sure that Jenni - the other programmer next to Intisar and the other two being targeted for having a chance to learn about the hidden weapon program - is safe and sound during the Golden City masquerade party than Intisar believing that it may be a trap to lure them out rather than heading for the security program to secure the real footage of the murder. Defied later when she saves Tevor's life over trying to secure the footage she needs to clear her name.
  • Meaningful Name: "Intisar" is an Arabic name meaning "victory" or "triumph", befitting one of the best hackers in Utgard.
  • Playful Hacker: She's a genius hacker and she compares her hacking to playing games in the trailer for Evening Glimmer.
  • Race Lift: While running against the Fatum Sisters to see whom of them would release first, her skin tone was noticeably darker than how lighter it is now. Humorously, the players who voted and got her avatar as a gift still have proof of that.
  • Rule of Symbolism: She heavily runs with her connection to the Egyptian goddess Kauket, who was known for having a snake for a head and ruled the darkness with her husband Kek. Other than the facts she's not married and is a hacker, she fits Kauket's mythology to a T.

    Tevor (Sphinx)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tevor_sphinx.png
"One can learn as much from lies as from truth."

Voiced By: Mike Previti (English), Tomokazu Seki (Japanese), Seo Jung-ik (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

Got a case that needs solving? Can't find the right person to do it? Look no further, for expert Utgard sleuth Tevor is on the case! He is a fighter Esper who can exploit his exclusive Neko-Sense buff on enemies and use his Neko-Analysis passive for special effects.

  • Tevor has a unique buff called Neko-Sense. It increases his C. DMG and significantly lowers his chance of taking a critical hit from an enemy. At the start of his turn, Neko-Sense resets all of Tevor's ability cooldowns.
  • Uncovered Truth deals damage to an enemy based on Tevor's ATK while also inflicting Sear.
  • Neko-Analysis is a passive ability. At the start of his turn, the enemies with the highest ATK, DEF, and Max HP are marked separately. Tevor's attacks ignore DMG Mitigation effects, and causes his own effects when hitting a marked target. When killing the highest ATK target, he deals Overkill Damage to all enemies, attacking the highest DEF target will have him ignore a chunk of that DEF, and he deals True Damage when attacking the target with the highest Max HP. When killing a marked target, he gains a stack of Neko-Sense, and an enemy killed by him cannot be revived. When ascended, he also gets a stack of Neko-Sense at the start of combat.
  • Neko-Giftbox dispells all of an enemy's buffs and absorbs all their AP. Then, Tevor attacks them, dealing damage based on his ATK.

  • Animal Motifs: The Egyptian sphinx, which is mostly depicted with the body of a lion. Tevor himself is more associated with cats, especially with the word "neko" (the Japanese word for cat) being prominent in the names of his abilities.
  • Artwork and Game Graphics Segregation: His mugshot (shown here in this page) is the one used for cutscene shots. The one used for non-cutscenes and battles is different because his eyes are more cat-like and his face is less fluffy-looking. It gets more complicated later on during Valeria's update when his mugshot is yet again updated to look closer to his battle model.
  • Brutal Honesty: As he dislikes "white lies" (he doesn't understand their concept) as much as bigger lies, he believes that the truth is more important than someone's feelings, which makes him come across as a little heartless.
  • Contrived Coincidence: He happens to bump into Intisar at a supermarket while she was shoplifting some food and on the run from authorities. From there, Intisar has no choice but to team up with him to clear her name.
  • Determinator: Whenever he feels that he's close to solving a case, his focus will remain solely on solving said case that he will even ignore eating or sleeping until its conclusion. His nosiness becomes annoying to people, as he also forgoes social etiquette.
  • Deuteragonist:
    • Of the Evening Glimmer event, trying to solve a mystery that leads him to looking into Intisar herself.
    • Also for the Sea of Sorrow event, aiding Tang Xuan into looking into the assassin organization "The Crows" on a luxury ship.
    • He becomes this for the second half of Warm Winter, revealing himself to be the same cat that appeared with Hilda during Endless Summer.
    • And once more becomes this in Return, Dreaming, being hired by Gaius to find out why Farrah has become comatose.
  • Forced Transformation: Outside his Esper transformation, he gets turned into a simple black cat in Endless Summer and Warm Winter due to entering Lian's dream.
  • Heroic BSoD: He lost his family for unknown reasons, which led him to become sort of an emotionless robot to people, learning that honesty is the best policy.
  • Law Versus Chaos: He once contemplated joining the Esper Union, until he reasoned that people needed an Esper superhero to uncover the truth without taking sides. Thus, he chose neutrality.
  • Meaningful Appearance: His hat has curved horns going up, which are actually the sides of a sphinx's headdress.
  • Morph Weapon: His magnifying glass can assume a small form for him to hold or become large enough and float for him to ride on in battle.
  • My Instincts Are Showing:
    • As he's a cat, catnip is very effective to put him in a daze, which Ethan exploits to feel his paws without resistance. Tevor is not pleased at all.
    • Invoked in the Evening Glimmer event when he's forced to go through a cat door to escape from the Golden City.
  • My Nayme Is: His name gets pronounced as “Trevor” during the last cutscene from Evening Glimmer, but it’s only spelled with one R.
  • Recurring Extra: Next to Tang Xuan, Tevor appears in a lot of story events mostly as a Deuteragonist.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: He really fancies himself a superb detective and shows off during the second story mode that his skills will help the player and Sachiko get through the Golden Casino's Draw & Guess games, but not only is he a terrible artist, but he tends to overthink things trying to guess from simple drawings that don't mean so much from two people who aren't really erudite.
  • Smug Snake: Invoked. While trying to figure out that Aurelius's girlfriend was actually a male scammer, he occassionally flashes silly grins, as if he's enjoying the fact he's disraveling what it's to him an easy case confusing the poor Aurelius.
  • Team Pet: Invoked in the Sea of Sorrow event. Tang Xuan tries to pass him off as his pet as an excuse for bringing him in without a ticket to the luxury ship. Tevor, not pleased with the idea, decides to annoy Tang Xuan by meowing for a bit.

All-Trades Agency

An agency that acts as a less restricted Marshal group that provides help in its own unique ways in the Lower City, founded by Emma and Ethan together.

    Emma (Jade Rabbit)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emma_04.png
"My dweam? To smash criminals flat!!"

Voiced By: Madison Lee (English), Wakana Minami (Japanese), Park Si-yoon (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Epic
Role: Fighter

A Marshal from Lower City in Tangton with a strong sense of justice and a stronger desire to whack criminals with her pestle. She is a Fighter Esper who can stun foes and works well with Heng Yue.

  • Emmma has two unique buffs in her arsenal. They are...
    • Grumpy, which increases her attack by a small amount per stack. Stacks up to ten times.
    • Wonder Juice, which she gains upon reaching Resonance 2 and if Heng Yue is on her team. When Emma has this buff and dies, she is revived with full health and full stacks of Grumpy.
  • Bumping Bash deals damage to an enemy based on Emma's ATK and has a chance to stun them.
  • Twirling Thrash is a passive ability. When one of Emma's teammates takes a hit, she has a chance to counterattack. If this teammate is Heng Yue, the chance is much greater. This counterattack hits the target three times, dealing damage based on Emma's ATK, and each hit has a chance to stun. When ascended, if Emma stuns an enemy with this attack, her AP increases.
  • Stomping Smash attacks all enemies, dealing damage based on Emma's ATK. If an enemy is stunned, Emma ignores some of their DEF. For every teammate who takes a hit, Emma gains a stack of Grumpy. When she gets ten stacks, she consumes them all to dispell all of her debuffs and perform a pursuit attack with this ability.

  • Beast Man: Emma's divine powers turned her into a small rabbit girl, similar to Tevor or Brewster.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She was mentioned in Ethan's backstory as the co-founder of All-Trades Agency long before becoming playable.
  • Knight Templar: She has a very strict and violent way of justice (like chasing down a litterer and causing destruction in her wake), which rubbed her superiors the wrong way, making them relocate her to the Lower City. It took her a while to understand that she needed to avoid using force (though she's still more than happy to smack someone down with her pestle).
  • Killer Rabbit: Her little cute appearance hides a violent bunny capable of causing chaos.
  • Moon Rabbit: The most literal example, as she's based on the Jade Rabbit that accompanies Chang'e on the moon while making divine medicines. Even her weapon is a giant pestle, the tool that the rabbit uses to make elixirs.
  • Odd Name Out: She's the only Chinese Esper to have a distincly non-Chinese name.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Despite her connections with Ethan, it's Heng Yue who makes Twirling Thrash more effective and gives an R2 Emma the Wonder Juice buff if they're in the party together. This is because of the mythological figures they're based on; Heng Yue being Chang'e and Emma being Chang'e's bunny companion. However, these two have yet to be seen interacting in story events.
  • Shout-Out: Emma's astronaut getup is a likely nod to Yutu and Yutu-2, a pair of Chinese moon rovers named after the Jade Rabbit. It could also reference the Apollo 11 mission, where mission control jokingly told the astronauts to watch out for Chang'e and her bunny while on the moon.
  • Theme Naming: All of her ability names follow the same pattern; a verb, then a word that starts with the same letter as the verb and ends in "ash".

    Ethan (Pan)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ethan_pan.png
"Ah! It's so sunny today, perfect for some mischief."

Voiced By: Tareek Talati (English), Motoki Takagi (Japanese), Lee Sang-ho (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Support

A mischief-loving street performer and co-founder of the All-Trades Talent Agency in Tangton, Ethan uses his powers and his trusty accordion music to work with animals and pull pranks. He is a Support Esper armed with unique status effects to mess with his foes.

  • All of Ethan’s abilities involve the use of either a unique buff or a unique debuff among his arsenal. They are…
    • Magic Tune, a buff. It increases both Critical Hit Rate and Damage, reduces the chance of receiving a Critical Hit, and increases SPD.
    • Panic Gaze, a debuff. When an enemy with Panic Gaze uses a basic ability, it removes Magic Tune from the targeted teammate (unmissable and can’t be resisted) and deals True Damage to the enemy based on their Max HP. This will not kill the enemy, and this damage is reduced against bosses. If the enemy casts a non-basic ability or dies, Panic Gaze is removed from the entire enemy party and their ability cooldowns are extended (unmissable and can’t be resisted).
  • Chaos Sound deals damage to an enemy based on Ethan’s ATK and has a chance to reduce the target’s AP. If the target has Panic Gaze, they become stunned, and if Ethan has Magic Tune, the effects from this attack cannot be resisted.
  • Joyful Delights attacks all enemies three times, dealing damage based on Ethan’s ATK. Each hit has a chance of inflicting DEF Down, and all enemies become inflicted with Panic Gaze.
  • Enchanting Song grants Magic Tune and Immunity to all allies. When ascended, if Ethan has Magic Tune and an enemy receives an AP boost, Ethan gains a percentage of the boost for himself.

  • The Beastmaster: Uses his music to command a variety of animals, though this is not a part of his in-game kit.
  • Fauns and Satyrs: Ethan is a satyr, in reference to the god Pan who was also one.
  • The Gadfly: Loves being mischievous and joking around. In the Pan’s Band update trailer, he’s seen playing his accordion to get various animals to cause havoc in the streets.
  • Kind Hearted Cat Lover: He's got very good knowledge in taking care of cats and uses that to his advantage to give tips to other cat owners (though he passes all of this as "Cat Divination" to get money out of the public).
  • Magic Music: Ethan plays his tricked out accordion to fight, as well as to command animals.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: While he interacts with animals of all kinds, he’s consistently followed around by a fluffy, one-eyed, cat-like creature.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: His agency (and himself) is this to Tevor's Lakspur Agency, as Ethan's agency likes to help people with problems and Tevor abhors Ethan making fun of his cat-like qualities. In Swiftspace, Tevor himself takes shots at Ethan's agency by mentioning how people could just go to Tevor's agency for an actual cat helping them out.
  • Street Musician: Listed in his profile as his occupation.
  • Young and in Charge: He’s already co-founded a talent agency with a friend, and he’s only 21.

Twilight Order

"Among people, who isn't hiding a struggle behind a mask?"

Voiced by: Jack Oliver (English), Yuki Terui (Japanese), Gong Joon-ho (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Defender

A conniving young man and brother to Yuuhime. He was once known as Shouta. He and his sister were the surviving children of their wealthy family from Geran City, but then became members of The Crows. Initially an NPC and event boss, he was made playable in the version after his debut. He is a Defender Esper who can use his unique Rashomon buff to increase his critical hit rate.

  • Yamato has a unique buff called Rashomon, which increases his C. RATE based on the number of stacks he has.
  • Death Grasp attacks an enemy twice, dealing damage based on Yamato's ATK and DEF. Each hit has a chance to stun the target.
  • Thunder Surge attacks all enemies three times, dealing damage based on Yamato's ATK and DEF. Each hit has a chance to inflict Buff Blocker. If Yamato has Rashomon, he consumes all his stacks of it to do extra True Damage, based on his DEF. When ascended, if he lands a critical hit, he absorbs the target's AP and evenly distributes it to his team.
  • Abyssal Crossing grants ATK UP and DEF UP to all allies, and Yamato gains stacks of Rashomon based on how many buffs his teammates have.

  • Big Brother Instinct: The exact details on this are really muddy. He truly believes that having control of his own sister through the music box is a way to keep her safe from harm. Then there's the ambiguity that was setting Javid free to deal with the Raging Lion under the pretext that it was to keep Yuuhime safe despite her not being involved in the Sands of Guilt event.
  • Brainwashing: As he's a member of The Crows, he is brainwashed to serve the organization against his will except he isn't brainwashed. To nullify the effect of the music box controlling its members, he injured his own ears since the burning of his home and has pretended to be brainwashed in order to catch Kokuzan off-guard and have Yuuhime kill him.
  • The Chessmaster:
    • He outmaneuvered Kokuzan's brainwashing by rendering himself deaf from its music and plotted to have Kokuzan use the music box too many times to weaken its hold on Yuuhime for her to kill him and then gain control of her actions through using the music box.
    • He then proceeded to set Javid free from Mylo Prison to deal with the Raging Lion and the Withering Miracle as an effort to apparently keep Yuuhime safe, but actually to learn that an artifact like the Lion's Heart can be used to amplify Esper powers.
    • In the second story mode, he's the driving force who brought the player to the Esper Union. His ultimate plan is to see the world reborn through someone using the Gate of Promotion, using the player - the lock - to control others to act.
  • Cool Mask: Occasionally wears a tattered hannya mask that only has one eye left, but still looks pretty cool and adds to his "everyone hides behind a mask" philosophy.
  • Evil All Along: Though he planned to set Yuuhime free from Kokuzan's control, it was all a ploy for him to get the music box and gain control of Yuuhime for himself. It looks like he considered to do this ever since he was younger.
  • Given Name Reveal: Sea of Sorrow reveals that his given name is Shouta.
  • Irony: His mythological powers are derived from Izanagi, who was known for ensuring that there were more births than deaths to preserve his creation. Yamato, however, works for an assassin organization, and he himself decides to take over it as their new leader.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Once Kokuzan is killed, he claims the music box to control his own sister and rebrands The Crows to the Twilight Order with him as their new leader.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: His civilian disguise has his hair all black, but half of it turns red when he's using his powers.
  • Promoted to Playable: He was introduced as an NPC with his own boss fight in Sea of Sorrow, but then Immortal Fire added him as a playable character.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: His Esper Profile trailer has him showing off his really dark nature while the music is... incredibly sweet and flowery-sounding.
  • The Starscream: His plot to take down Kokuzan wasn't just to see his sister free from his control, but he wanted to usurp Kokuzan to claim the music box and therefore the entirety of The Crows as their new leader.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Fugu sashimi. One of the first times he had it was at a dinner for the Crows where they were told that one of two sashimi plates was poisoned. Yamato was the only one at the table who dared to have a bite, and he loved it. The poison thing turned out to be a lie and both plates were fine, but he still associates fugu sashimi with his love of risk taking.
  • Walking Spoiler: Very hard to talk about him given his many actions.

"The stage is set. My dolls are ready for a curtain call."

Voiced By: Aimee Smith (English), Asaki Yuikawa (Japanese), Park Ha-jin (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

Once known as Iori, Yuuhime is a gloomy, puppet-like girl and sister to Yamato. She's the surviving daughter from the wealthiest family in Geran City, who became a member of the Crows afterwards. She is a Fighter Esper who uses her Hell's Hand buff to extend the duration of her other buffs and gets stronger as the enemy team dwindles.

  • She has a unique buff called Hell's Hand, which extends the duration of all her buffs by one turn at the start of her own turn.
  • Nether Jewel deals damage to an enemy based on Yuuhime's ATK and grants Immunity. If she has Hell's Hand, she deals extra damage at the cost of losing all her stacks of it.
  • Death Gate deals damage to all enemies based on Yuuhime's ATK and inflicts DEF Down. If she has Hell's Hand, she deals extra damage at the cost of one stack of it. Uniquely, this ability does not have a cooldown, despite not being a basic attack.
  • Beyond the Grave attacks all enemies twice, dealing damage based on Yuuhime's ATK. The first hit inflicts Diseased, and the second hit reduces enemy Max HP before doing much more damage than the first one. Then, Yuuhime gains a certain number of Hell's Hand stacks based on how many debuffs the enemy team has. When ascended, the fewer targets on the field, the more damage this ability does.

  • Caged Bird Metaphor: Compared to both a caged canary and a puppet on a string multiple times while under both the Crows and her own brother, who has a whole bounty story dedicated to the bird metaphor. Her career profile says that she desperately wants to escape from her current lifestyle and live a normal life, but has never been able to.
  • The Dreaded: In some circles, she's know as the Necro Maiden, whose twelve hands open the way to the underworld.
  • Emotionless Girl: She's described as gloomy and cold, like an unfeeling puppet. She was a lively kid, but that changed after her family home burned down and she became an assassin. Nowadays, the only thing that can make her drop her stoicness is...expensive matcha ice cream she can't afford.
  • Given Name Reveal: Sea of Sorrow reveals that her given name is Iori.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: She has a grand total of fourteen arms, twelve of which are skeletal and ghastly, and she's a highly dangerous assassin.
  • Mundane Utility: While her twelve extra arms do wonders for her work as an assassin, she also uses them to assist with her hair care, something that floors Li Guang when she asks for advice with her own hair.
  • Otaku: She enjoys watching mecha movies and is a fan of the Samurai Flower franchise.
  • Riches to Rags: Since her family's downfall, she's barely scrapped by with the little money she has. However, this is mostly caused by indulging in eating matcha ice cream that's more expensive than the regular kind.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Matcha ice cream, something she likes to indulge in after completing a challenging task.

Tangton Council

The council of Tangton made up of a majority of normal humans, with the one exception being Yu Ran; the only council member who wishes to represent Espers as people. As he has Esper special agents working for his cause, this entry defines his group within the council.

"Your defense is full of flaws."

Voiced By: Chloe Mei-li Bundt (English), Chiharu (Japanese), Kim Jisoo (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Epic
Role: Defender

Yu Ran's righthand supporter. A young-looking girl who's not as harmless as she looks. She's a defender Esper whose unique buff Usurp allows her to steal buffs from enemies who attack her to bolster her defenses.

  • Her unique debuff, Usurp, steals a buff from her target.
  • Featherblade damages an enemy thrice, dealing damage based on Yu Xu's ATK and DEF. When ascended, she also inflicts Sear.
  • Cutting Remark is a passive ability. Yu Xu gains a shield at the start of enemy turn, and if she's hit she inflicts Usurp on her attacker.
  • Flourish damages all enemies twice based on Yu Xu's DEF, doing more damage if there are fewer targets on the field, and then inflicts Taunt. At the end of her turn, if she has at least three buffs, Flourish's cooldown is shortened by one turn, and if she has at least five buffs, her basic ability damage is increased.

  • A Day in the Limelight: Alongside Yu Ran and Su Jue, she stars in Farewell Fireworks.
  • Animal Motifs: Parts of her design evoke the image of a bird, referencing Jingwei's reincarnation into a bird after drowning in the Eastern Sea.
  • Blatant Lies: Her menu animation has her dropping a knife - a murder weapon she mentions - and kicking it away, while calmly feigning ignorance about how it got there with her.
  • Creepy Child: She appears as a creepy Evil Albino with large claws, and somehow, the in-game description mentions she's not as harmless as she looks.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Her not so harmless looks aside, she means well, and she fully supports Yu Ran's vision to convince Tangton that Espers are people too.
  • Headbutting Heroes: Often butts heads with Su Jue, who often teases her on her failed attempts to be a child and her hobbies on collecting gemstones.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Her ears are distinctly inhuman and feather-like.
  • Not Growing Up Sucks: She's unable to physically age thanks to her transformation, and while she can use her looks to her advantage, it's one of the things she hates the most about herself. She specifially envies Su Jue's mature appearance and good looks because it's something she doesn't have.
  • Older Than They Look: She's 23, but in a similar situation to Mavis, she stopped aging when she got her powers at eight years old, so she still looks like a kid. It's noted that not a lot of people know how old she really is.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: She uses her youthful looks to pass off as a child. Unfortunately, she's incapable of behaving like a child and her Perpertual Frowner look blows her attempts.
  • Recruiting the Criminal: She met Yu Ran after he caught her trying to break into his house to steal his valuables, but instead of turning her in, offered to take her under his wing as an intelligence officer, which she accepted.
  • Restored My Faith in Humanity: Due to her experiences being persecuted by Tangton officials, she saw no hope in humanity and was ready to discard ever thinking about people changing their minds to Espers, but meeting Yu Ran and hearing his speeches convinced her to follow him and his ideals.

Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Controller

A ditzy journalist from Tangton with a flair for the dramatic. She is a controller Esper who can use her unique Bamboozled effect to stun foes without fail.

  • Bamboo Cutter deals damage to an enemy based on Fumitsuki's ATK and inflicts Buff Blocker. When Bamboozled is active, this attack also stuns, and the stun can't miss or be resisted.
  • To The Moon is a passive ability. If an enemy's HP is low enough at the end of their turn, Fumitsuki launches a pursuit with Bamboo Cutter. If her own HP is high at the end of her turn, she gains Bamboozled.
  • Heavenly Raiment deals damage to all enemies based on Fumitsuki's ATK and inflicts Diseased and C. RATE Down while healing the party. When ascended, if an enemy's HP is low enough, Fumitsuki gains a shield.

  • Butt-Monkey: Her Editor can be hilariously strict on her when not following orders to behave. Though it takes a dark turn when the Editor briefly threatens her not to divulge the truth about what happened at the garrison. This becomes even darker when the Editor is the one ordering the hit to kill Fumitsuki on behalf of Ren Xian.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Stars in Exposé, where her Hot Scoop makes her the target for something nefarious.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Her Editor disapproves of publishing the story being the garrison incident because it will cause mass panic in Tangton that will lead to further chaos should all the citizens seek refuge in other cities where they won't be looked out after by sheer numbers. However, her Editor is working for Ren Xian, who doesn't want the news published as it will threaten his chances to exile all Espers from Tangton.
  • Green Thumb: Her first and third abilities are themed around bamboo, referencing the plant that Kaguya-hime was found in as a baby in Japanese folklore.
  • Hope Bringer: Both Fu Shi and Ikki believe that she has the best chances to report to the whole world the Awful Truth about what can happen to normal people who linger too much while being too close to the Miracles (they risk turning into Miramon) without being criticized for it due to her job as a journalist, unlike how they're both from the Shadow Decree.
  • In the Name of the Moon: She likes to proclaim flashy one-liners (even though she's not exactly a general hero of justice) while on the job. She also has a second skill (To The Moon) that vaguely sounds like the trope itself.
  • It's All My Fault: She feels responsible for the mysterious assassins killing Zhi Peng due to her article she published about the incident at the garrison bringing attention to it.
  • Sent Into Hiding: She forms an alliance with Yu Ran's team to stay safe from assassins on the condition that she goes into hiding to be ready to publish her news article when she's ordered to.
  • She Knows Too Much: The article she wrote about the incident that occurred in the garrison close to the Chaos Miracle: while the story she heard was partially the truth, it brought attention to the incident all the same, which caused a group of mysterious assassins to kill her lead Zhi Peng and later target her when she witnesses their assassination. To make things more complicated, councilman Ren Xian wants her eliminated so the truth stays hidden.
  • Shout-Out: Her gacha quote is a riff on Team Rocket's famous motto from the Pokémon anime.

"The world of governed by people's causes...and the changes they desire."

Voiced By: Luca Xavier (English), Seiji Maeda (Japanese), Park Hyun-woong (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Controller

A wise politician and the only Esper of Tangton's council members. He advocates for Espers being people who need to be supported rather than being shunned. He is a controller Esper who can inflict sleep on all enemies and increase the damage they take from his allies.

  • His unique buff, Apotropaic, deals extra damage to sleeping targets based on his Max HP. This damage cannot be a miss, critical hit, or elemental boon.
  • Exorcism damages an enemy twice based on Yu Ran's ATK, and each hit inflicts Sleep. Afterwards, a random ally will be called in to perform an assist attack.
  • Boundless Grace damages an enemy twice based on Yu Ran's ATK and inflicts Sleep. All allies receive ATK Up and Apotropaic, and this ability's cooldown cannot be manipulated.
  • Anathema damages all enemies thrice based on Yu Ran's ATK and inflicts Sleep. All allies gain C. DMG Up, and when ascended, all enemies get DEF Down.

  • Animal Motifs: The deer, which is how the ancient Chinese beast Bai Ze was originally described as a dragon with the body of a deer.
  • Big Good: He's this to the Tangton Anomaly arc, striving to give a good name to Espers while maneuvering around the traps set by Ren Xian, who's attempting to take Yu Ran down.
  • The Chessmaster: He's proved to be quite a calculating man:
    • During Farewell Fireworks, he manages to intercept Su Jue through Yu Xu by convincing her not to follow through her assassination on Li Tiangang by appealing to her Hidden Heart of Gold (because an Esper killing a council member would really make all other Espers suffer in Tangton), manages to get Su Jue on board with his growing group, and also saves her from committing a serious crime to avoid falling into Ren Xian's trap.
    • In Exposé, he learns about Fumitsuki's role in investigating the Awful Truth at the abandoned garrison and convinces her through Su Jue to aid him in exchange for protection from Ren Xian's henchmen wanting to murder her to silence the truth on the incident.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Alongside Yu Xu and Su Jue, he stars in Farewell Fireworks.
  • Forced Sleep: All of his abilites are able to put enemies to sleep, and his unique buff deals extra damage to sleeping targets.
  • Self-Made Man: He used to be a meek man who was constantly bullied at a school for rich kids (he was the only one who got in through his own merits). Once he transformed and was given a position in Tangton's council through Li Tiangang, the latter commented that Yu Ran grew into a wise man and proved himself to be among the other (Esper-hating) council members.
  • Smart People Play Chess: He is a wise and empathetic politician, and chess is one of his favorite pasttimes.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: All of the council members define Su Jue as a witch (and she does so herself, but not out of malice as they do), but he's the only one who calls her a beautiful woman.
  • Token Minority: He's the only member of Tangton's Council to be an Esper, and specifically advocates for better Esper protection in the city.

"The truth is often hidden in trivial information."

Voiced By: Madison Lee (English), Yuka Nishio (Japanese), Kim Jisoo (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

An alluring female special agent capable of shapeshifting for her own amusement. She is a fighter Esper who can exploit her unique Puppet Art debuff to cripple foes.

  • Su Jue has the following unique status effects:
    • Puppet Art, a debuff. The carrier's Resist and Miss Rate are drastically lowered when taking hits. The damage they take is increased, and they gain Taunt at the start of their turn.
    • Funeral Rites, a buff. Her damage is increased by a certain amount per stack (up to 9 stacks), and when she attacks, each stack deals extra True Damage based on her ATK.
  • Nebula Knock deals damage to an enemy based on Su Jue's ATK. Each point of SPD deals extra damage, and if the target has Puppet Art, Su Jue absorbs some of their AP.
  • Haze Havoc damages all enemies three times based on Su Jue's ATK. Each point of SPD deals extra damage, and there's a chance to inflict DEF Down. Extra damage is dealt to enemies with Puppet Art, based on Su Jue's ATK. When taking ability damage from an enemy with Puppet Art, Su Jue will counterattack to deal some of that damage right back plus some extra True Damage based on her ATK. She is immune to ability effects from enemies with Puppet Art, and if someone makes their Puppet Art end early, they get it again for an extra two turns.
  • Bewitching Spell deals damage to an enemy based on Su Jue's ATK. Each point of SPD deals extra damage, and she dispels all her target's buffs while giving them Puppet Art. She gains 9 stacks of Funeral Rites at the start of combat, and when an ally takes lethal damage, she consumes a stack to dispel all their debuffs and postpones their death until the end of a bonus turn. When ascended, if Puppet Art fails to inflict, this ability's cooldown is reset.

  • Animal Motifs: The fox, which takes cues from the evil fox spirit Da Ji.
  • Asian Fox Spirit: She's based on the huli jing, which is the Chinese version of this. She has nine ghostly tails and the mask on the back of her head makes it look like she has fox ears.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: As a Tangton native, she faced persecussion by political figures, which didn't help when she targeted councilman Li Tiangang by impersonating him and making it look like he was doing humiliating stuff that severely tanked his reputation. She was thrown in jail and tortured with many different methods for years until she made her escape and vowed to kill him as revenge.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Alongside Yu Ran and Yu Xu, she stars in Farewell Fireworks.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: She's beautiful and uses her good looks to entice people and trick them.
  • Femme Fatale: Beautiful, dresses all in black, shady, holds her own secrets, and very dangerous.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: Though Yu Ran vividly remembered her when she saved him from rich students bullying him, she forgot about him until he helped her remember. In all honesty, it'd be hard for anyone to remember the poor kid from the school of rich kids who ended up becoming a corteous politician (and got transformed into a humanoid goat).
  • Headbutting Heroes: Often butts heads with Yu Xu, whose stoicness and Creepy Child looks gives Su Jue a lot to tease at.
  • Heel–Face Turn: By the end of Farewell Fireworks, she accepts Yu Ran's offer to work with him to make Tangton life for Espers better and free from persecution.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Yu Ran surmises that Su Jue is a nice person, even though she had threatened him to embarrass him with a girl he loved when he was younger. It's just that Su Jue is a bit of Tsundere by not being honest about her good deeds.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: Her hair hides one of her eyes to make her look more mysterious.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: She was more than ready to torture and kill Li Tiangang when she had the chance and didn't care about being manipulated by other council members to accomplish her goal, but then this becomes averted when she realizes an Esper murdering a politician will only make life for other Espers being judged by Tangton humans worse, and she won't have that happen.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: She's able to shapeshift into anyone, which is a reference to the evil fox spirit Da Ji, who impersonated and killed the real Da Ji; consort to King Zhou of Shang.

Voiced By: Judd Shiffler (English), Yuki Tamai (Japanese), Han Man-joong (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Rare
Role: Support

A lively old man who enjoys matchmaking people. He is a support Esper who boosts allies' attack and can reduce ability cooldowns.

  • Under That Moon deals damage to an enemy based on Unky Chai's ATK and increases his AP.
  • Ties That Bind is a passive ability that grants C. Rate UP to two random allies at the beginning of each turn. When ascended, the ability will also grant ATK Up, and if an ally already has ATK Up, it'll lower their cooldowns.
  • Ropes of Destiny grants ATK Up to the party. If an ally already has ATK Up, the ability will lower their cooldowns.

  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: He enjoys helping people out whether they're in need or not, and is so humble that he will always turn down any gifts from the people he helped. He only wishes for those around him to have a second chance and opportunities they never had.
  • Cool Old Guy: He's 66, and yet he's damn ripped and is a superb bounty hunter.
  • Cool Shades: Sports a pair of stylish sunglasses. Becomes the subject one one of Freddy's side stories, where he sets out to find Unky Chai out of fear that the latter's shades are cooler than his, but then the pair bond over it and Freddy admits that Unky Chai has the better eyewear.
  • Limited Animation: Strangely, he's the only Esper among everyone else who only has one mugshot during side episodes (and used to share this infamous honor with Lynn). Later, he got a brand new mugshot...but is still not animated in any way.
  • The Matchmaker: His powers are based on Yue Lao, the Chinese god of marriage and love. Unfortunately, this often annoys the younger generation, since he's pushy with his unsolicited wisdom.
  • Odd Friendship: With Layla, which also crosses as Intergenerational Friendship as she's 25 and he's 66.
  • The Pollyanna: His overly nice behavior hides the loss of his own family, prompting him to treat his own neighbors as if they were his family members.
  • Red String of Fate: Uses these in battle. Justified as the concept is directly linked to Yue Lao, who is known as "The Old Man Under The Moon" that connects people destined to be together with an invisible red string.
  • Silver Fox: At 66, he’s the oldest character in the game, but he’s still got a good eye for eyewear and is in incredible shape for his age, which he shows off by being a Walking Shirtless Scene.
  • Super Gullible: Unky Chai has a bad habit of falling for fake medical articles online, and routinely sends them to Layla, who in turn routinely chastises him for believing everything he reads on the internet.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He doesn’t wear a shirt, showing off his impressive muscles and myriad of tattoos.

    Layla (Medjed)

"I can't stand it when a client interrupts my research."

Voiced By: Holly Lindin (English), Rin Kusumi (Japanese), Jung Yu-jung (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Rarity: Rare
Role: Fighter

A back alley doctor with a mobile clinic known for charging hefty fees. Layla is a fighter who specializes in dealing status ailments - preferably poison - for increased damage.

  • Fainting Lightwave deals damage equal to a percentage of Layla’s ATK and has a chance to stun the target.
  • Berserker Ray transfers one debuff from each ally to an enemy and then does damage equal to a large percentage of Layla’s ATK, while also having a chance to inflict Diseased. When this ability is ascended, it deals bonus damage to Poisoned enemies.
  • Gaze of the True Gods attacks all enemies twice, dealing damage equal to a percentage of Layla’s ATK while also inflicting Poison.

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Her third ability, Gaze of the True Gods, has her summon a giant version of Medjed (the god she’s the Esper of) to shoot a giant laser from his eyes.
  • Back-Alley Doctor: Outright stated to be one of these.
  • Berserk Button: Don't tell her that she should find a boyfriend.
  • Can't Stand Them, Can't Live Without Them: Despite all of Unky Chai's nagging on Layla's marital status, deep down, she appreciates that someone like him cares for her wellbeing.
  • Combat Medic: Not of the healing variety, but she’s still a doctor and playable Esper who uses defibrillators to attack her foes.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Just morally ambiguous at best.
  • Dr. Jerk: She’s rather stubborn and snippy, particularly to her patients who have something to say about how much she charges for her services. This has earned the nickname "Treasure Devourer" for her insistency to use her medicine on people.
  • Eye Beams: Which she uses so often because she's not good at keeping her emotions in check.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Yellow outlines, black eyes, and strange blue pupils.
  • Foil: To Lauren. They’re both short female dark skinned blondes who are doctors as well as Espers of Egyptian gods. Lauren is a member of the Union who wants to use her powers to help wherever she can, and has a special fondness for children. Layla is a Back-Alley Doctor who charges hefty fees and doesn’t always get along with or understand her patients as well as she should. This also extends to gameplay; Lauren’s kit has her sacrifice her own HP to heal her team, while Layla’s kit can’t even heal her team to begin with, instead focusing on inflicting debuffs and poisoning.
  • For Science!: Much of the reason for her morally ambiguous experiments is because of this. It helps that she's not tied to the Union or the Shadow Decree so she goes unsupervised.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Wields a pair of defibrillators.
  • Loners Are Freaks: She chooses to hole herself up at her clinic and not go out from it, unless she needs to eat. Unky Chai is perhaps the only connection she has to the outside world.
  • Mad Scientist: While she isn’t evil, her treatments and experiments are outright called morally questionable, being performed in secluded areas with an alarmingly enthusiastic smile. The game even calls her a mad genius on top of it all.
  • The Medic: Her main job as a doctor, though her cures are useful, it doesn't help much how shady she is about using them.
  • Odd Friendship: With Unky Chai. Her profile even notes that it's odd. Doubles as an Intergenerational Friendship, as she is 25 and he is 66.
  • Older Than She Looks: Can you believe she's 25?
  • Poisonous Person: Downplayed. While parts of her kit revolve around inflicting the Poison status, it's not a central theme to her character.
  • Power Floats: Played straight in her profile menu and her mugshot art, but subverted in battle, where she prefers to be standing on the ground. It's also heavily implied that she's always standing on the ground during cutscenes when adults aren't able to spot her.
  • Shock and Awe: Attacks with electricity using a pair of defibrillators.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Perhaps due to her short stature, and despite her Esper looks, she's somehow being able to sneak around adults without being noticed until she speaks up. Given her disposition as a loner, she's elated by this.
  • Token Mini-Moe: Outside the main two organizations. Funnily enough, she gets into a little argument with Q over his own youthful appearance.

Role: Fighter

A heroic mercenary and bounty hunter from Grandis who lives his dream of being a true hero. He is a fighter Esper who can strike random targets several times.

  • Phoenix Arrows attacks an enemy three times, dealing damage based on Lu Yi's ATK. Each hit has a chance of inflicting Sear.
  • Unshackling is a passive ability. Lu Yi's attacks have a chance of dealing extra True Damage. This True Damage is based on the target's Max HP, and can't exceed a certain percentage of Lu Yi's ATK. When ascended, upon landing a critical hit, the chance to deal True Damage increases.
  • Skyshot preforms single target attacks nine times on random targets, dealing damage based on Lu Yi's ATK. Each hit has a chance of inflicting Bleed.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Despite his sunny disposition, he prefers to work alone and won't join any factions. If people attempt to, he often scares them with his mask.
  • Birds of a Feather: He is best friends with Bardon, who also grew up admiring superheroes from comics. They're also both silver-haired Espers.
  • The Chew Toy: He is often collateral damage to Brewster's explosive attacks.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: He lives out his dream of being a true hero that he's willing to turn down any rewards if it's for a good cause.
  • Deuteragonist: Of the Desperado side tale alongside Sieg.
  • Distressed Dude: In the Desperado side tale, he gets kidnapped by Djoser. It takes Brewster a while before he decides to go save Lu Yi.
  • Great Bow: Wields a giant bow into battle, representing the Chinese archer god Dayi.
  • I Work Alone: He used to work for the Esper Union by Bardon's request, but he left the team when he found its regulations towards criminals to be lacking for his tastes. Still, he is often working with the boombastic Brewster.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Has long, silver, flowing hair.
  • Odd Friendship: With Brewster, whom Lu Yi helped out after Brewster Escaped from the Lab. Ever since then, the two have been together (for better to Brewster and worse for Lu Yi). Strangely enough, despite Lu Yi's lone wolf attitude in regards to his heroics, he makes an exception for Brewster.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue oni to Brewster's extreme red oni.
  • Self-Deprecation: He insists that he's not a true hero and believes he's got a long road ahead to achieve that, despite the fact many see him as a hero anyway.

"I'm honored to bring a smile to so many ladies."

Voiced By: Anthony Phan (English), Kensho Ono (Japanese), Shin Beom-sik (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Epic
Role: Support

A good-looking troubadour who enjoys life as a free spirit. He is a support Esper who can grant several buffs to a single ally.

  • Glorious Aura deals damage to an enemy based on Fabrice's ATK, and grants Recovery to the ally with the lowest HP.
  • Love Sonata gives a large amount of AP to an ally. When ascended, it also gives them ATK Up.
  • Autumn Butterflies grants Invincibility to a selected ally, and Immunity to the whole party.

  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Though he vaguely started a romantic relationship with Melanie, his character episode shows that the relationship has soured due to Fabrice's incompetence to clear his debts with Evening Sounds, exasperating Melanie.
  • But Now I Must Go: He will reject the idea of ever settling down anywhere or with anyone. Not even the close bond he built with Li Guang was enough to change his mind.
  • The Casanova: He is very popular with the ladies, often giving them a good impression upon a first meeting. Unfortunately for him, Melanie started to see his pathetic work ethic as a bounty hunter.
  • Jerkass: Though he enjoys listening and playing the cielo for people - especially women - he is always thinking if it's time to leave.
  • Like Brother and Sister: He felt this way towards Li Guang, who shared the same sentiment, until Fabrice decided to leave her side because he wanted to be a lonely minstrel without close attachments.
  • Pretty Butterflies: He's always accompanied by butterflies, who like nesting around his own head and face. This takes cues with the Norse god Freyr, who was related to fertility, peace, and a good harvest (among other traits).
  • Restored My Faith in Humanity: When he was lost, thinking that no one in the world required him, he happened to find Li Guang, who was abandoned by her family on the streets. Through looking after her and enjoying her bright optimism, he recovered emotionally (and then ditched her because he didn't want to be tied to her).
  • Walking the Earth: Ever since fleeing from home, he has traveled all over to enjoy life to the fullest, though he abhors settling down anywhere, even if it's for a good cause.

"WOO-YAH! Do you wanna go on an adventure with me?!"
Wintry Wonder

Voiced By: Vii Zedek (English), Yū Sasahara (Japanese), Kim Yea-lim (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Epic
Role: Fighter

A free-spirited energetic bounty hunter who enjoys thrilling adventures and her freedom. She is a fighter Esper who provides herself and her allies with AP up effects.

  • Bright Flames hits an enemy twice, dealing damage based on Li Guang’s ATK. Each hit grants her a certain amount of AP.
  • Fetching Fire hits an enemy twice, dealing damage based on Li Guang’s ATK. Each point of SPD deals extra damage, also based on her ATK, and each hit steals a buff from the target. When ascended, upon stealing a buff, she extends the duration of her own buffs.
  • Dazzling Sunfire attacks an enemy three times, dealing damage based on Li Guang’s ATK. Each point of SPD deals extra damage, also based on her ATK. She will also increase the AP of the entire party.

  • Animal Motif: The vermilion bird, which is one of the four Chinese constellations.
  • Big Eater: Especially towards steamed buns. She has a very simplistic mindset that she advices people to "eat when you're hungry" while eating a steamed bun.
  • Birds of a Feather: Pun aside, she's a fan of the Samurai Flower franchise as much as Intisar is, and the two happen to be anonymous forum friends who later find each other's identity while trying to buy a single limited edition Samurai Flower action figure (they both end up sharing it separately in separate days or together on Sundays).
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She was deserted by her mother when her father was killed by Miramon and was forced to live on the streets. To make matters worse for her, she had become an Esper who had no idea how to use her powers. Only when Fabrice stumbled upon her, she started to learn how to be an adventurer and learned how to control her Esper powers.
  • A Day in the Limelight: She stars in the Sea and Song story event, being sent to the coastal town of Bremis as a favor to Gaius to prevent the Cube Miracle's Nexus from causing another tsunami just like the one that wiped out Estero Harbor 14 years ago.
  • Deuteragonist: Of the Static Shock event, leading behind Gaius, whom she idolizes as a hero.
  • Genki Girl: She's very excitable, all in the name of adventure. Hardly anything gets her down.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: She wears them in her album art, but they just perch atop her head in her model and every other piece of art she has.
  • Like Brother and Sister: She felt this way towards Fabrice, who shared the same sentiment, until Fabrice decided to leave her side because he wanted to be a lonely minstrel without close attachments.
  • No Guy Wants an Amazon: Melanie tried to hook her up with a guy who got smitten by her...and then Li Guang started talking about her incredibly dangerous adventures that she barely survived (but was very excited for), which left the man a frightened mess and left in a hurry, much to Melanie's dismay and Li Guang's obliviousness.
  • Playing with Fire: Her main element, as her powers are derived from the Chinese Vermilion Bird. Despite this, she's Wind-attuned instead of Inferno.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Invoked. Gaius felt this way about her because she reminded him of his deceased girlfriend, not romantically, but rather because he didn't want Li Guang to die trying to help him and him failing to protect her.
  • Thrill Seeker: As she's a huge adventurer fanatic, she enjoys any and all kinds of adventures, even if the most wondrous places lie past the most dangerous of places.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Steamed buns. Her menu and gacha animations see her munching on them, and they’re listed as her favourite thing in her profile.
  • Walking the Earth: She adores to explore the world. It was thanks to her archaeologist father who took her to his fieldwork trips that she took on being an explorer.

"W-wait! Don't go! I haven't fixed you yet!"

Voiced By: Aimee Smith (English), Yuuka (Japanese), Park Ha-jin (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Epic
Role: Support

Known as the Gear Master, Ain is a no-nonsense engineer with a short fuse. She is a support Esper who can grant protection and increase allies' damage based on her maximum HP.

  • Shock Beam attacks an enemy twice, dealing damage based on Ain's ATK. Each hit has a chance to inflict C. RATE Down.
  • Force Barrier grants Standoff to Ain, and gives a shield to the rest of her team. The shield's strength is based on Ain's Max HP.
  • Maker's Strike attacks an enemy three times, dealing damage based on a mix of Ain's ATK and Max HP. Each hit has a chance to inflict DEF Down, and after both hits, a random ally is will preform an assist attack. When ascended, if Ain is not incapacitated while this ability is on cooldown, then the rest of her team deals extra damage when attacking outside of their turn. Damage is based on Ain's Max HP.

  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She used to be worse than she is now, as she used to make machines for a living until she turned over a new leaf and started designing machines for protection.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: She's a very remarkable engineer and she's known as the Gear Master. This is in line with the Egyptian god Ptah, who was known as a maker of things.
  • Hot-Blooded: Irritating her while she's in the zone can delay her custom orders or get a wrench to the face.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: She develops an affection towards a stray cat she named Wrench, until she found out it was Kaylee's cat Chili. Despite this, she agreed to come visit Chili.
  • Money Fetish: Due to being from the slums, she developed an obsession with money. However, she doesn't charge anything to those in need; from giving cats with broken legs protesthic legs to giving hearing aids to deaf kids.
  • Nice Girl: As mentioned above, when she's not irritated, that is.
  • Older Than She Looks: She looks like a little kid, and yet she's 27.
  • Red Baron: The Gear Master.
  • Restored My Faith in Humanity: Since she was very young, her mentor Sidon taught her that there was good in people. She, in turn, helped Sidon talk him out of blowing himself up with a bomb after he lost his family.
  • Robot Buddy: She's accompanied by a four-legged mechanical creature that she presumably built herself and is frequently seen riding on. Not much is known about it, nor does it seem to have a name, but it's likely a reference to Apis, a sacred bull from Egyptian mythology who was connected to Ptah.
  • Wrench Wench: She's a talented, genius mechanic and engineer, and her career blurbs even imply her to be a Child Prodigy.

    Alolin (Pazuzu)

"I will never stop restoring relics and artifacts."

Voiced By: P.M. Seymour (English), Teruyuki Tanzawa (Japanese), Kim Ji-yul (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Epic
Role: Fighter

The guardian of Debia and restorer of artifacts who looks after Old Kush City to preserve its history. He is a fighter Esper who exploits inflicting Bleed on foes.

  • Stinghook deals damage to an enemy based on Alolin's ATK. If the enemy is carrying Bleed, the damage from every Bleed stack they have is dealt immediately, and then they're inflicted with more Bleed.
  • Plague Famine is a passive ability. Once per turn, if an enemy makes their ally's Bleed effect end early, then Alolin's ability cooldowns are reduced by one turn.
  • Veiled Gusts attacks all enemies three times, dealing damage based on Alolin's ATK. Each hit inflicts Bleed, and has a chance to dispel a buff from the enemy. When ascended, Alolin gains Stealth when using this ability.

  • Beast Man: He's a tall slender black lion with a scorpion tail, modeled after the personification of Mesopotamian southwestern wind Pazuzu.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Alongside Liam, he's the other beast Esper who's not affiliated with the Inferno attribute.
  • Blow You Away: His abilities involve him summoning up winds to attack, particularly Veiled Gusts which sees him summoning a tornado. This is in reference to Pazuzu, who was both the personification of the southwestern wind and the demon of destructive wind in Mesopotamian mythology. Fittingly enough, Alolin is a Wind-attuned Esper.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He had a brother named Paterry who had a fascination for history and culture since they were young. However, a wave of refugees sought shelter in their museum during the arrival of Debia's Miracle and looted the entire place, which also resulted in Paterry's death.
  • Friend to All Children: He find kids adorable, and he's even got a kid assistant to help him in his trips to Old Kush City.
  • My Greatest Failure: It's implied that his inability to protect his brother from being killed is what he's trying to move on by defending and restoring Debia's artifacts, which he fiercely devotes his time for.
  • Serious Business: He takes the restoration and preservation of artifacts incredibly seriously. It's implied that he does it to honor his late brother Paterry, who had a deep love for history, and he'll literally put himself in harm's way in order to defend his relics.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: When Unas had found Alolin at Old Kush City, he found Alolin all battered and injured after defending intact artifacts behind him from Miramon.

"The flowers in the snowfields are blooming... My family would've loved this."

Voiced By: P.M. Seymour (English), Toshiki Iwasawa (Japanese), Seok Seung-hoon (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Epic
Role: Fighter

A lonely bounty hunter from Utgard who has endured past bad experiences with people. He is a fighter Esper who can freeze targets and deal more damage.

  • Icicle Darts deals damage to an enemy based on Aurelius’ ATK. It also has a chance to inflict SPD Down.
  • Icebreak Fury attacks an enemy multiple times, dealing damage based on Aurelius’ ATK. If the target is frozen or has SPD Down, this ability removes the freezing effects and deals extra damage, again based on Aurelius’ ATK. When ascended, this extra damage ignores the target’s DEF.
  • Frost Glory attacks all enemies twice, dealing damage based on Aurelius’ ATK. The first hit inflicts Freeze and SPD Down, and the second hit does bonus damage to frozen enemies or enemies with SPD Down, again based on Aurelius’ ATK.

  • Birds of a Feather: He and Chang Pu share the same kind of respect towards flowers, and they both are shy.
  • Escapism: Being in the tundra is his way to escape from the world, and he knows this.
  • Inconvenient Attraction: Though his romantic feelings for Alexa didn't start off as this, they became this when she became wealthy and powerful; the kind of people Aurelius dislikes. And yet, he still yearns for her company.
  • Mistaken for Undead: It's because of him that rumors about the ghost of a guide luring lost people at the tundra to their deaths started to spread. The truth is he often finds lost people and gives them guidance at a small camping site before they depart. But, after a little while, he decides to clean any tracks left behind to avoid alerting Miramon, only then said lost people come back after getting lost again and are horrified to see that their resting site essentially vanished along with Aurelius.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: His parents were killed in a tragedy made by the wealthy and powerful just because he happened to save someone.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: He has had a history filled with bad experiences from people using him, especially the wealthy. This has caused him to become very socially awkward that even good-humored teasing is taken the wrong way, and he prefers not to socialize.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Roasted skewers.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Though not as traumatic as most examples, he transformed into an Esper after suffering the pain from his heroic actions.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Has become the target of this from his experiences, especially when he became an Esper.
  • Weapons of Their Trade: He's a hunter and wields a crossbow in battle. His powers are based on the Norse "God" Ullr, associated with winter, skiing, and snow sports. He was also known for his archery skills.

    Chloe (Medea)

"Fashion is not just about aesthetics, but attitude."
The Heartthrob

Voiced By: Katabelle Ansari (English), Arisa Suzuki (Japanese), Park Go-woon (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Epic
Role: Fighter

An extremely popular fashion designer and stylist in Grandis. She is a fighter Esper who thrives on stealing buffs to empower herself or hinder foes with blocking them from getting buffs themselves.

  • Trending attacks an enemy twice. It deals damage based on Chloe's ATK and has a chance to steal a buff from the target.
  • Stage of Fantasy launches four strikes on random enemies, dealing damage based on Chloe's ATK. If the target doesn't have any buffs, Chloe will inflict Buff Blocker on them. When ascended, this ability extends the duration of Chloe's buffs.
  • Fashion Sense launches five strikes on random enemies, dealing damage based on Chloe's ATK and stealing two buffs from each target. Damage is increased by a certain percentage for each of Chloe's buffs.

  • Artwork and Game Graphics Segregation: Her story sprite and 3D model give her a halo that looks like a belt, which is absent in her other artwork. Meanwhile, her 3D model gives her a pale human skin tone, while all her 2D art makes her skin light pink (except the portrait for her "Heartthrob" outfit, which goes with the same skin tone as her model).
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Despite her dark outfit and overall creepy appearance, along with her downright murderous patron deity Medea, she's one of the nicest Espers out there. That being said, don't make her mad or she'll make you bald.
  • The Dreaded: She has dealt with Shadow Decree thugs by leaving them bald whenever they disrupted her charity events, and she muses about shaving their eyebrows.
  • The Fashionista: She has a rather important view on fashion, believing that only beauty and hope have the strength to save the world in the dark times with Miramon prowling about. She is extremely dedicated to her craft that she's always thinking new ways to provide fashion services to even scaled-Espers (said services are said to become popular almost right away). And to top it all off, she's not above going to rural areas to provide free services just to brighten up people's lives.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Not regarding her alignment as a neutral Esper, but rather because of rumors that she only does buzz cuts just because of Gaius's perfectionist obsession of cutting his hair every 3 days whenever it gets 1mm taller.
  • I Work Alone: She has denied joining offers from the Esper Union, Shadow Decree, and even other neutral factions due to her views of helping any sort of person realize how beautiful they are.
  • Never a Self-Made Woman: Averted. Her well-mannered attitude as a child didn't make people think that she'd become so strong-willed.
  • Nice Girl: As stated above, she makes spontaneous trips from her schedule to rural areas to provide free services to people in need.
  • One Degree of Separation: Perhaps the degree of separation. She offers her fashion services to both Esper Union (like David, Raven, and even their leader Gaius (to her chagrin)) and Shadow Decree members (like Freddy and even their commander Sander) without either side ever finding out about each other. She does know this, however, because she wishes to give everyone the opportunity to realize how beautiful they are.
  • Recurring Extra: You're most likely to see her popping up in many other Espers' side tales due to being the One Degree of Separation.
  • Sadly Mythtaken: Her character profile calls the mythological figure she's the Esper of a sophisticated goddess. Medea was a powerful sorceress and demigod, but she was never depicted as a goddess.
  • Shear Menace: Her weapon is a giant scissor blade.
  • Spirited Competitor: Has a competitive streak in her regarding other fashion studios winning fashion competitions, which can sour her mood while trying to come up with brand new ideas.
  • Tsundere: Towards David, whom she's secretly in love with. She's the only person who leaves harsh comments on his social page as a subtle way to get him to come to her Fashion Studio for hair treatment. Then again, he does believe that she loves him, but she often brushes off how he misinterprets their friendship at times. Their relationship alludes to Medea of Greek mythology, who was in love with Jason (the Greek hero whom David's powers are based from).

    Alexa (Aphrodite)

"Popularity isn't all it's cracked up to be."

Voiced By: Elissa Park (English), Aoi Yūki (Japanese), Rhee Yong Sin (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Epic
Role: Support

The master of the Mirror Palace and the Golden City, close friend to Abigail Saunbert. She is a support Esper who can heal her allies and perform counterattacks that hamper enemies' survivability.

  • Brilliance deals damage while having a chance to lower their accuracy.
  • Phantasia Balances all allied Espers' HP ratios. If an ally has the Kiss of the Nightingale buff, it restores 20% of their max HP. When ascended, she'll also dispel a debuff from all her allies, and heal them if successful.
  • Kiss of the Nightingale grants an ally with a buff that returns 75% of the damage they receive back to the opponent and dispels a buff from them at the beginning of their turn.

  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: In the Ruler's Law event, while Jin Yuyao shows Alexa to Abigail through her communicator, Alexa says that she's covered in bruises, has a bloodied mouth and bruised legs. Yet, her sprite only has a couple of bruises on her face (and in the fully illustrated scene in 2-6, more bruises can be seen on her body) and doesn't look too badly beat up otherwise.
  • Beneath the Mask: Befriending Biondina was what allowed Alexa to finally lower her guard down and share her true feelings with someone...until Alexa started to become toxic and controlling towards her, causing the two women to part ways after a conflict. The result was Alexa going back to Becoming the Mask.
  • Crazy-Prepared: When the player tries to get her to get Abigail's good graces and gain entry to Raine Tundra, Tevor attempts to Blackmail her with her secret hobby as a famous internet romantic novelist, except she expected the fact to be used against her eventually, so she sucked up her pride and revealed the embarrassing fact prior.
  • Deuteragonist: Of the Ruler's Law event, where she serves as an assissant to Abigail.
  • Femme Fatale: She uses her alluring good looks to force men into letting their guard down and get their darkest secrets exposed.
  • Foil: Her third careers entry notes that Biondina's honest and easy-going manner were attributes that made her Alexa's polar opposite.
  • Hidden Depths: In the second story mode, it's revealed that she is a very well-known internet novelist for romantic stories; something she's so embarrassed of.
  • Hostage Situation: During the Ruler's Law event, Alexa gets kidnapped after the Shadow Decree ambush on Abigail's new factory. She is then used as a bargaining chip by Jin Yuyao in order to make negotations with Abigail.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She has a ridiculously large chest, sits in an alluring pose with her legs crossed, and has a sultry attitude. She also seduces people with her beauty and affectionate words and managed to get their darkest secrets. Justified that it comes with hosting Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Alexa presents herself as an empty-headed ditz with a welcoming smile while in reality she is a cunning and patient woman with good listening abilities that'll achevie her goals and trick people into confessing their deepest secrets to her.
  • Parental Abandonment: She was abandoned as a baby but was raised by dancers.
  • The Starscream: It's revealed in the Immortal Fire event that Alexa was once a personal assistant to Nicholas but unbeknownst to anyone she was actually spying for Abigail. Abigail promised her total ownership of the Golden City in exchange for information on Nicholas' operations. However, Alexa ends up becoming the new owner not through her spying, but rather because Nicholas got killed by Mateo after revealing how dangerous Nicholas would be to be in any position of power at Utgard.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: She considered Biondina to be her true friend until the toxic behavior started to come from Alexa, trying to control Biondina to always be by her side. Sick of the treatment, Biondina deserted Alexa after a conflict.
  • True Companions:
    • Formerly with Biondina before their falling out.
    • With Abigail, which is what stuck.

"Elegance should be applied in all aspects of life."

Voiced By: Nathalie Ferare (English), Aoi Koga (Japanese), Unknown (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Epic
Role: Support

A young dancer from Gyrate's Wings who uses her dancing skills to brighten people's lives. She is a support Esper who can exploit her unique buff Kagura Dance to provide allies with more damage dealt and healing received.

  • Bell Twirl deals damage to an enemy based on a mix of Koharu's ATK and Max HP. A debuff is dispelled from Koharu, and she gains Recovery.
  • Pirouette deals damage to an enemy based on a mix of Koharu's ATK and Max HP. It also inflicts Diseased and Sear. When ascended, if Koharu has the Kagura Dance buff, she also heals the party.
  • Prayer Dance attacks all enemies, dealing damage based on a mix of Koharu's ATK and Max HP. She has a chance to inflict ATK Down, and the party receives Kagura Dance, which increases the damage they do and the healing they receive.

  • Breaking Old Trends: Along with Jin-hee, she’s the first East Asian Esper to not be Chinese, being Japanese instead.
  • Career-Ending Injury: Not her, but her dancing mother became disabled after her legs were gravely injured by the Miramon 10 years prior. When Koharu performed on a celebratory stage, she finally managed to bring a smile to her mother's face, and that's how she decided on continuing her mother's dream of being a dancer.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: To her great embarrassment, she can't keep herself from burying her face into large stuff animals (especially a big seal plush named Pizzazz), saying it's not so elegant of her to do. Stewart eases her worries by saying that it doesn't really matter how old she is to do so and even bought her another big plush.
  • Magic Dance: She uses her powers so that her dances look more mystical and alluring for the public to enjoy, which takes cue from the Japanese goddess Ame-no-Uzume, whose dancing came to be known as the Japanese ritual dance Kagura.
  • Miko: Multiple things about her evoke the image of one. Her outfit has the red and white color scheme and the long sleeves, her third ability summons a large torii gate, and her outfit and staff are adorned with suzu bells. Her staff in particular has a set of kagura suzu bells on the end of it.
  • Mistaken Identity: She gets mistaken for another girl by an elderly woman suffering from Alzheimer's disease who lost her daughter to the Miracles but believes Koharu is her dead daughter. Ever since then, Koharu has personally come to her hospital room to ease her worries by pretending to be her daughter.
  • The Perfectionist: Her creed of elegance may be a bit much on the surface, given she has created "Guidelines for Elegance" for her dance troupe that goes in great detail on simply smiling alone (the entry has 10 situations and 17 precautions). There are also 24 "Refined Strategies for dealing with unexpected situations. On top of all this, she abhors horror movies because they can easily make someone lose control of their facial expressions. And if all this wasn't enough, she has 72 "Rules of Elegance."
  • Proper Lady: She lives with the creed that one must practice elegance in all aspects of life, and there can be no room for coarseness. She does everything she can to be elegant from dancing to smiling simply, unless she loses to the temptation of cuddling up to stuffed animals.
  • The Reliable One: She became a "wish-granting genie" to her troupe members for her assistance and right answers in everything. Her reliability gave birth to "The Song of Koharu," whose only verse was "Koharu, Koharu, make wishes come true."

    Adrina (Chantico)

"AYAYAYAYAYAI! WOO-HOO! Wanna see a little fire?"

Voiced By: Brianna Wanlass (English), Ageha Harusaka (Japanese), Kim Chae-rin (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Epic
Role: Fighter

The ringmaster of the Red Chili Circus, she wants to bring smiles to people with her circus's performances. She's a fighter Esper who relies of heavy assist attacks through her unique Red Chili buff.

  • Her unique buff is called Red Chili. Each stack of this buff increases Adrina's ATK and C. DMG, and she can have up to three stacks.
  • Flamespitter attacks an enemy twice, dealing damage based on a mix of Adrina's ATK and Max HP. She then gains a stack of Red Chili.
  • Covering Fire is a passive ability. At the start of an ally's turn, Adrina removes nearly all of her AP in favor of preforming assist attacks when an ally casts a basic ability. When she has two stacks of Red Chili, she launches a pursuit attack on all enemies, dealing damage based on her ATK and Max HP, which has a chance to inflict Stun. When she reaches three stacks of Red Chili, she gets rid of them in exchange for an extra turn, and when ascended, she gets rid of all her debuffs too.
  • Warmest Welcome deals damage to all enemies based on Adrina's ATK and Max HP, and does more damage when fewer targets are on the field. She inflicts DEF Down on the enemies, and gives all allies (apart from herself) some AP.

  • Animal Motifs: Canines, thanks to her appearance and energetic nature, which brings to mind a playful dog.
  • Assist Character: Her main gimmick is to tank her own AP at the start of her teammates' turns in favor of fully committing to assisting other party members by attacking with her own follow-up attacks with every basic abilities they use. It's only when her Red Chili buff stacks enough that she can attack normally before repeating the whole process again.
  • Beast Man: Dislyte's first proper gender inverted example of one. Her appearance is influenced by Chantico's fate of being turned into a dog after breaking a ritual fast. She looks more like a fox than a dog (which are part of the canine family), but doesn't have a fox tail, so it's unclear what exact species she's supposed to be, if any.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Out of all the female Espers who vaguely have beastly appearances, she's the only one who looks more anthropomorphic (as a fox).
  • Circus Brat: She was taken in and raised by circus performers after her parents were killed by Miramon. Nowadays, she leads a circus of her own.
  • Fire-Breathing Weapon: A fire-breathing trumpet, of all things. Considering her love of spicy food and her powers being from an Aztec fire goddess, it'd be no surprise if she was literally breathing fire out of that thing.
  • Genki Girl: She's very energetic, fitting her Playing with Fire specialty.
  • Instrument of Murder: Her weapon is a large trumpet that functions like a flamethrower when she blows into it.
  • Playing with Fire: She channels fire powers through eating red chilis.
  • Spicy Latina: She embodies a Mexican theme with her love for red chilis, which are associated with paprika, which was used with roasted fish by the Aztec god Chantico breaking a fast that led to her getting turned into a dog by Tonacatecuhtli.
  • Start My Own: The Red Chili Circus came into being after she found out the ringmaster of her first circus had vandalized the stage and props after she had put a performance that wasn't in line with his strict specifications. Disgruntled by his effort to make her fail, she took some of the loyal members of the circus with her and formed her own circus.
  • Transformation Exhilaration: Her Transformation first occurred when she put on an unforgettable performance for the crowd when she decided to break away from the ringmaster's strict instructions. Listening to the laughter of the people triggered her Transformation.
  • Unaffected by Spice: She has a very high tolerance for spicy food that she usually stacks her rice bowls with really big red chilis.

A travelling witch known for her good deeds who aims to study and comprehend the Miracles. She is a Support Esper capable of extending the duration of her team's buffs.

  • Star Stream deals damage to an enemy based on Alice's ATK, and has a chance for a random ally to follow up with an assist attack.
  • Witch's Blessing is a passive ability. If Alice can take action at the start of her turn, she grants ATK Up to any ally with a buff.
  • Crystal Shards increases the duration of all ally buffs by one turn, and all allies receive C. RATE Up. When ascended, all allies will also receive SPD Up.

  • Nightmare Fetishist: Alice has been fascinated by occultism since her childhood, which her conservative family disapproved of. It got to the point where they ousted her from the family after she became an Esper, as they saw her powers as witchcraft.
  • The Only One I Trust: She formed this relationship with Narmer, who helped her in her darkest hour when she felt unable to trust her conservative family and the people who felt scammed by her powers after hearing exaggerated rumors about her. Not only did he rekindle her trust in people, but also her interest in the Miracles.
  • Our Witches Are Different: Alice is described as a legendary witch who uses blessing magic to heal people's ailments, and can often be found practicing rituals and incantations. However, the truth is that all the rituals are just for show, and there's no magic or witchcraft involved in what Alice does, just her Esper powers.

A marshal of Raine's Wall in Utgard who is deeply trusted by the locals. Fed up with the city's power struggles, he's taken the defense of the snowfields into his own hands. He is a Controller Esper who can inflict Silence and grant himself AP.

  • Sweeping Strike deals damage to an enemy based on Zhong Nan's ATK, and has a chance to inflict Silence.
  • Abjure Evil attacks an enemy twice, dealing damage based on Zhong Nan's ATK. The first hit dispells all the target's buffs, and both hits grant Zhong Nan extra AP.
  • Heavenly Justice attacks all enemies twice, dealing damage based on Zhong Nan's ATK. Each hit inflicts Silence, and if an enemy already has Silence, their ability cooldowns are extended by one turn. When ascended, Zhong Nan gains AP if an enemy casts a basic ability while Heavenly Justice is on cooldown.

  • Promoted to Playable: He appeared alongside Ophelia and Jiang Jiuli in the first Esper Feud event before he became playable properly.

    Yalina (Mamitu)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yalina.png
"Dance with me! Let's stay together! Forever!"

Voiced By: Malou Laval (English), Mikoi Sasaki (Japanese), Kim Jisoo (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Rarity: Epic
Role: Fighter

A "traveling puppeteer" who yearns for love and affection, no matter how terrible her methods to do so are. She is a fighter Esper who can punish healers with her unique debuff Promise Breaker.

  • Her unique debuff, Promise Breaker, inreases the damage the carrier takes and lowers their C. RATE when attacking Yalina. At the end of their turn, a random buff is dispelled from them.
  • No Fair! deals damage to an enemy based on Yalina's ATK and inflicts Buff Blocker. When ascended, if her target has Promise Breaker, she gains ATK Up and C. RATE Up before attacking.
  • Pinky Promise is her passive ability. When an enemy is healed, they gain a stack of Promise Breaker. Afterwards, if the stacks of Promise Breaker are at 7 or higher, Yalina uses Dolly Destruction as a pursuit attack.
  • Dolly Destruction attacks all enemies twice, dealing damage based on Yalina's ATK. Each hit has a chance to inflict Bleed, and for every stack of Bleed an enemy has, Yalina ignores some of their DEF.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Due to her demonic goat look, she couldn't make friends with other children. She used Puppet Permutation on herself to look human enough, but due to her Greed for affection, she kidnapped and killed children by turning them into puppets as a makeshift family.
  • Animal Motifs: The goat, which is what the Mesopotamian goat-headed goddess Mamitu was depicted as.
  • Arc Villain: Of Inescapable Fate, being the main culprit kidnapping children to make her own family herself.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For:
    • She's able to grant any wishes to anyone, but the huge drawback is that they must uphold her selfish promises or else the results won't be pretty.
    • She herself is not except from this, but the consequences aren't life-threatening but very emotionally taxing: she becomes interested in taking Feng Xun's power of divination by wishing to do so so that she can predict if reviving her parents won't lead to a bad ending and ensure herself to live happily with them, which comes to bite her very hard when she dwells in Feng Xun's power and relives many different paths that end up in complete misery of several outcomes (namely her parents finding out they don't love each other, getting slaughtered by Miramon, recalling scrambled memories that cause Yalina to suffer from allergic reaction to eating seafood, the fact they divorced and had new families, etc.), despite all her attempts to avert disaster. What makes this even worse for her is that she constantly relieved multiple bad experiences in the span of a minute since she was stuck using divination and hadn't wished for anything else yet, making this a severe traumatic case of And I Must Scream that could've led to her own death from sheer insanity hadn't Feng Xun snapped her out of it.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Inescapable Fate shows that her blood parents weren't exactly a happy couple. Her father was defined as a spectator to all of Yalina's problems rather than offering to help her in anything, and her mother was overbearing in her husband's lack of care for the household and family. Things deteriorated when both divorced and started new families. Her father got fatally attacked by Miramon while her mother wanted to have a son with her new husband. Her stepmother wished to her to heal her father, while her mother wished to have a new son. She made the wishes come true, with the condition than neither families would leave her. Unfortunately, both of her parents had to leave her to attend the needs of their other children, causing Yalina to feel betrayed by their broken promises and kill them all for it.
  • Desperately Craves Affection: When her Esper powers awakened, her life in her family became very rocky because of her dreadful appearance and her rather omnipotent presence. It left her with a severe need to be loved, in the most sadistic way.
  • Enfant Terrible: She awoke to her Esper powers at a young age, and her Greed for affection caused her to kill her whole family when they broke their promises with her. However, she had zero sympathy for them when they did so, and she doesn't put much thought on the fact her powers can kill others.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her pupils are rectangular to look like a goat's.
  • Fatal Flaw: Greed. Her craving for affection comes with a sadistic streak, forcing people to follow her wishes or become puppets (which kills them). When Feng Xun comes into the picture, her greed becomes her downfall when she goes nearly insane trying to secure a happy life living with her revived parents (while stuck in divination).
  • Foil: To Feng Xun. They're both connected to fate, as Feng Xun can read the fates of others and Yalina's deity is the goddess of fate. Feng Xun avoids conflict, having left home after his sister fell into a coma after almost being kidnapped by the Shadow Decree, while Yalina has no qualms about kidnapping or killing people to get what she wants or if they break a promise, even if it's her own family.
  • Graceful Loser: After coming to terms that she needs to focus on the present rather than righting the wrongs of her past, she willingly turns herself in to the Esper Union.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Though being a bit literal on the description, she envied her stepsiblings when they became the reason her parents left her behind to attend their school needs, breaking their promises with her and suffering death as consequence.
  • Ironic Name: Yalina is an Islamic name meaning "gentle" or "soft". Not exactly words you'd use to describe a sadistic puppeteer who killed her family and kidnapped (and killed) children and kidnapped Feng Xun after he refused to follow her demands.
  • Little Bit Beastly: She has some goat-like features, namely her ears, hands, and rectangle pupils.
  • Puppet Permutation: Does this to herself in Inescapable Fate. Since her Esper appearance scares people off, she gave herself a puppet body that looks like her pre-Esper self so she could have an easier time making friends... except she's actually doing it to try and kidnap children to make a family for herself.
  • Serial Killer: All the children she's kidnapped were turned into puppets, but by definition, they're all dead, much to Li Ling's dismay.
  • Slasher Smile: Sadistic, creepy, killed her entire family, and has a mouth full of sharpened teeth.

Legendary

    Elaine (Nyx)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elaine_63.png
"The night is just a shadow."

Voiced By: Courtney Lin (Adult), Abigail Turner (Child) (English), Reina Ueda (Japanese), Park Yi-seo (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

A cold and cool-headed young lady who seeks to become stronger after being Delicate and Sickly during her infancy, formerly a Shadow Decree member until deserting it for a journey of self-discovery. She and Leora grew up in the same orphanage and consider themselves as sisters, though the relationship has soured over the years. They still have a lingering sisterly bond deep down. She is a fighter Esper with her unique Night Goddess buff, which can extend if Leora is in the same team. Otherwise, she gains Duskglow if Leora is a foe.

  • Elaine has two undispellable buffs at her disposal. They are…
    • Night Goddess, which grants Elaine Stealth, transfers one debuff from each ally to her target upon landing a Critical Hit, and increases enemy Miss Rate.
    • Duskglow, which increases Elaine's C. DMG and makes her attacks against Leora unresistable.
  • Night Raid deals damage to an enemy based on Elaine’s ATK and inflicts Sleep. While in Stealth, this attack deals extra damage. Elaine's attacks do not wake sleeping enemies, and she has a chance to ignore some of a sleeping enemy's DEF when attacking them.
  • Oblivion Strike attacks an enemy five times, dealing damage based on Elaine's ATK. Each hit steals a buff from the target, and then Elaine inflicts ATK Down and Sleep. When ascended, this attack does more AP damage for each of the target's debuffs.
  • Endless Night grants Elaine the Night Goddess buff and clears all enemy Stealth effects. Then, it attacks an enemy five times, dealing damage based on Elaine's ATK. Each hit inflicts Sleep and Buff Blocker. If Leora is in the party and has War Goddess, Night Goddess' duration is extended. If Leora is on the enemy team, Elaine gains Duskglow at the start of combat.

  • Aloof Ally: Though they had a rocky relationship that ended with a fight, Elaine does care about Leora in a stealthy shy way.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: She sent Leora a full comic book set of her favorite shoujo manga that was already out of print on her birthday. When told about it, Elaine just dismisses it as something she just happened to find on a trip out.
  • Becoming the Mask: She has long since become so distant and aloof because any sign of vulnerability could be exploited.
  • Comically Missing the Point: She receives several clues from a secret sender who she beat before and wanted to go out on a date with her, but Elaine becomes too paranoid of the random clues and only gets more suspicious when she asks Embla for guidance, who convinces her that someone wants to kill her instead. She ends up scaring the poor guy and she runs away in embarrassment when she learns he was trying to ask her out.
  • Delicate and Sickly: During her orphanage years, she had a weak constitution as a child and was often bedridden. When she became an Esper and recovered, she dedicated herself to become stronger.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Though she defeated Leora, it brought her no satisfaction, and she set out on a journey of self-discovery to find her true purpose.
  • Foil: Thematically, to Leora. Elaine is a dark and aloof lady with dark colors, while Elaine is a bright and helpful lady with bright colors.
  • Forced Sleep: She can inflict Sleep when attacking. On top of that, she's capable of keep the sleeping target sleeping if she's the one attacking.
  • Gamer Chick: Loves to play the martial arts online game "Killer Heroes" and loves video games in general.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: She managed to defeat Leora when they had a falling out, but despite that being her dream to surpass her, it didn't bring Elaine any satisfaction whatsoever, prompting her to leave the Shadow Decree to find her true purpose.
  • The Rival: She saw Leora as this when she became an Esper earlier than she did, which caused Elaine's jealousy to eat at her when Leora left and when Elaine became an Esper. Elaine trained hard to become stronger so she could one day defeat Leora and prove herself. However, Leora didn't see she was a rival.
  • Shrinking Violet: Tang Xuan assumes that Elaine's lack of interaction with Leora isn't because she doesn't want to see Leora, but rather because she's shy about expressing her bottled-up feelings. It seems this is the case.
  • Sibling Team: Similarly to the Xie brothers, if Leora with War Goddess is in her team, her Night Goddess buff gets extended by an extra turn. However, this can get subverted if Leora is a foe, in which case Elaine gains Duskglow, making her sleep-inducing attacks unable to be resisted by Leora.
  • The Stoic: She used to be far more expressive among her former Shadow Decree colleagues until she became more devoid of emotions to protect her new image better. She barely emotes when hanging out with Leora, though she is expressive when she's alone.
  • Sweet Tooth: She loves eating pound cake, though she says, perhaps out of embarrassment, that it was her favorite thing when she was a child.

    Norah (Muse)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/norah_7.png
"I will make the world hear my song."

Voiced By: Elizabeth Ryan (English), Kumi Takaragi (Japanese), Han Seol-yoon (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

A deaf lady with aspirations to become a singer who used to live in Estero Harbor before the Cube Miracle sank it underwater. Prior the event, her lonely life was brightened up by her Only Friend Anna. She is a fighter Esper who can use a variety of random effects when attacking.

  • Norah has a variety of buffs up her sleeves, most of them connected to her basic attack. They are...
    • Presto, which deals extra True Damage to Norah's target.
    • Andante, which lowers the AP of Norah's target upon dealing damage.
    • Largo, which dispels a buff from Norah's target.
    • Halcyon Harmonic, which gets consumed whenever Norah casts an ability. When used, the cooldown for Hearing the Divine is reduced by one turn and one debuff is dispelled from each ally. Then, Norah attacks all enemies twice, dealing True Damage. Each hit has a chance to dispell one buff from its target.
  • Tempo Trio attacks an enemy three times, dealing damage based on Norah's ATK. Norah will play a different song whenever this ability is cast, giving it different bonus effects. She plays Presto, Andante, and Largo in that order.
  • Rainbow Rondo sees Norah quickly strum her harp. Any time an ally is hit before her next turn, there is a chance she will counterattack with Tempo Trio. When ascended, she gains a stack of Halcyon Harmonic every three times Tempo Trio is cast.
  • Hearing the Divine inflicts ATK Down on all enemies and extends their debuffs by one turn. Then, Norah attacks all enemies four times, dealing damage based on her ATK, with the last hit dealing extra True Damage. Norah cannot land critical hits, but every point of her ACC increases the amount of enemy DEF she ignores when attacking.

  • Career-Ending Injury: Her partial deafness didn't slow her down when she sang alone, but then she went completely deaf during the Cube Miracle when she fell into turbulent waters, which left her very depressed and swore off a career in singing. She gets better after reconciling with her past with Anna, regaining her wish to become a famous singer.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Stars in the Sea and Song story event, which details her backstory with Anna and her powers capable of affecting the Cube Miracle before it can trigger another tsunami.
  • Deaf Composer: Since childhood, she suffered from partial deafness before the Cube Miracle incident completely left her deaf after falling into turbulent waters. It's implied that her Esper powers give her some hearing back, but otherwise, she has to read lips in other to communicate.
  • Friendless Background: Due to her deafness, she was unable to make any friends, and she was often ridiculed by other kids because of it. Only she opened up to Anna, who found her singing amazing and helpful.
  • Gorgeous Garment Generation: Li Guang finds out that Norah's Esper clothing manifests whenever Norah has to battle. Otherwise, Norah dresses up like any ordinary person.
  • Magic Music: Norah attacks by playing a variety of songs on her harp.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: She discarded any and all memories she had with Anna because she felt like Anna just came into her life just to make it worse with her death that led to Norah going deaf completely. She gets better when she reconciles with Anna's spirit within the Cube Miracle and learns that Anna truly wanted her to become a singer.

    Jin Qiu (Ru Shou)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jin_qiu.png
"An eye for an eye... That's the answer."

Voiced By: Leo Jerez (English), Shuta Morishima (Japanese), Kim Sang-hee (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

The head warden of Nether Gaol. He is feared by both inmates and subordinates alike due to his unethical, harsh interrogation methods, which always yield the answers he seeks. He is a figher Esper who can deal True Damage through his unique Convict debuff and several unique buffs.

  • Jin Qiu's unique buffs and debuffs are as follows:
    • Punish Evil boosts his base ATK and DEF.
    • Intimidate heals Jin Qiu when he does damage and gives him Shield before taking a hit.
    • Convict deals True Damage to whoever is carrying it, and once per turn Jin Qiu's AP will increase when they take damage.
  • Cleave deals True Damage to an enemy based on Jin Qiu's ATK and DEF. If Jin Qiu has Punish Evil, he attacks two more enemies and inflicts Convict. When ascended, if he has Intimidate, he dispells a debuff from himself and increases his AP.
  • Pump Fatigue gives him Punish Evil. If his HP is below a certain amount, he also gains Intimidate. He then gets a bonus turn, and this ability's cooldown cannot be affected by other abilites.
  • Just Retribution deals True Damage to all enemies based on his ATK and DEF. He also inflicts Convict, and each debuff on a target increases the damage of this ability. If a target's HP is below a certain percentage of their Max HP, they become stunned.

  • Animal Motifs: Tigers are the big one, thanks to Ru Shou having tiger claws and white fur on his body. His outfit also has some smaller animals to reference his patron deity; his snake hat and earring being the snake in Ru Shou's left ear, while his whip has the head of a dragon to reference the twin dragons Ru Shou rode on.
  • Beast Man: His Esper powers turned him into a large tiger man.
  • Brutish Character, Brutish Weapon: Carries a large shining green axe into battle, complementing his sadistic looks.
  • The Cynic: He has his own policy on criminals (Once a crook, always a crook), believing that the path to redemption for criminals is almost entirely nonexistent. This is the reason why he has zero sympathy towards them.
  • The Dreaded: Said to be the most feared warden of the Nether Gaol, and with how brutal he is it's easy to see why.
  • Establishing Character Moment: The trailer for Cellblock Chaos sees him grab an inmate by the head and squeeze him hard enough to make him cough up a Nexus Crystal he had swallowed, giving the audience a good idea of how he treats criminals.
  • Headbutting Heroes: He greatly dislikes Amber for her more idealistic views on treating criminals, though he secretly wishes her to never astray from her path lest she ends up becoming a big cynic like himself.
  • Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: His preferred method to get his interrogations done. It's said they always work, much to the horror of everyone who knows that much.
  • Large and in Charge: He towers at 182 cm and is the head warden of Nether Gaol (by comparison, he's just 21 cm (8 inches) shorter than Javid; the tallest beast Esper).
  • Never Be Hurt Again: He was best friends with Guan Shan, but the latter was a crook who couldn't drop his criminal ways even though Jin Qiu offered him a way to lessen his sentence for the better. Guan Shan tried to attack Jin Qiu to trick him, forcing Jin Qiu to shoot him dead on his head. It was that experience that made Jin Qiu believe that all crooks could never stop being crooks, applying ruthless interrogations techniques on criminals.
  • The Scapegoat: Toland's escape forces him to take the whole blame for it while ensuring Amber's safety from being killed by toxic smoke. Even though he could have easily killed Toland alongside Amber by faking a story with no evidence, he didn't want an idealistic person like Amber to die because he sees potential in her to bring light to the prison.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: His experiences with Guan Shan are what made him discard any idealistic ideas in favor of cynicism. He does believe that idealistic people like Amber should never lose their idealism, though.
  • Slasher Smile: He's fond of flashing his large fanged smirks.
  • Whip of Dominance: His secondary weapon is a barbed wire that he likes to lash on criminals.

    Feng Xun (Fu Xi)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/feng_xun.png
"*yawns* ...You got me out of bed for this?"

Voiced By: Gary Yeung (English), Masahiro Itou (Japanese), Kim Sol (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Support

A lazy young man whose powers of divination have forced him to shoulder great responsibility. He is a support Esper who can provide allies with many random buffs through his many unique buffs.

  • Feng Xun can provide the following unique status effects:
    • Marsh Wind heals allies when they do damage, as well as having their basic abilities do extra damage.
    • Heaven's Wheel gives one of three random bonuses (ATK Up, SPD Up, or C. DMG Up) to its carrier when they use an ability. If the ability in question is a basic attack, Feng Xun gains a stack of Far Journey.
    • Far Journey is activated when an ally is stunned or put to sleep; if Feng Xun has two or more stacks, two stacks are consumed to wash the effect away. When Marsh Wind is active and an ally casts a basic attack, two stacks can be consumed to perform a pursuit attack with Draconic Roar.
  • Draconic Roar hits an enemy three times, dealing damage based on Feng Xun's ATK and Max HP. Each hit restores some health to the ally with the lowest HP percentage. While Marsh Wind is active, this ability is guaranteed to land a critical hit.
  • Chakra Strike deals damage to all enemies based on Feng Xun's ATK and Max HP while inflicting DEF Down. While Marsh Wind is active, this ability is guaranteed to land a critical hit, as well as dealing extra damage based on Feng Xun's Max HP.
  • One Harmony activates the Marsh Wind Zone and gives Feng Xun two stacks of Far Journey, while giving all allies Heaven's Wheel when a round starts. When ascended, Feng Xun will follow up with Chakra Strike.

  • Ambiguously Related: To Feng Nuxi. They have the same surname, they're both associated with some kind of serpentine creature, and their deities are directly connected, being the creators of humanity from Chinese Myth. Any relationship they may have hasn't been elaborated on as of yet.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: He lives with three principles: never offend heaven or reason, never violate public order or morality...and never get up before 11.
  • Blessed with Suck: He dislikes having the power of divination as that puts stress on him when learning about negative fates that can't be avoided.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: He's able to correctly predict the future as a result of his powers and is a good martial artist, but his voice lines make it evident that he'd rather be sleeping in than fortune telling.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: Inescapable Fate says that he often uses his powers to predict his opponent's next move so that he can find an escape route.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Stars in Inescapable Fate, having predicted that Li Ling needed his help in investigating a series of child kidnappings.
  • Dragons Up the Yin Yang: He is able to manifest a purple Chinese dragon using his powers.
  • Foil: To Yalina, in regards to her wish to rewrite the past while he secretly yearned to change his future. However, Yalina suffers the consequences of not being able to Screw Destiny, while Feng Xun wishes to avoid changing his future because it isn't worth it in the end.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: He had learned that his little sister Feng Ling was going to suffer at the hands of the Shadow Decree, though he actually foiled their kidnapping attempt. Unfortunately, they tried a second attempt, but Feng Ling fell down the stairs, causing her to fall into a coma for years. This caused Feng Xun to leave his family and avoid the pain to change bad fates.
  • Perpetual Poverty: Becoming a wanderer really put a dent in his wallet that he often tries to get money on the side. He even participated (and won, anonymously) a drawing contest in Tangton because he was desperate for some cash. And yet, he's able to stay afloat somehow.
  • Sanity Slippage: He himself states that anyone who's not as adept in using divination as him can easily suffer high emotional trauma. He has trained himself to control his psyche to avoid getting dragged into these "trials" or else he may become too absorbed and go insane for it. When Yalina wishes to take his power to ensure she can avoid disaster with her parents, she slowly goes insane with grief when she's unable to Screw Destiny no matter how hard she tries because she's far too attached to changing the past to care about the present.
  • Screw Destiny: Defied. He believes all the fates he sees can't be changed no matter how hard they can be avoided.
  • The Slacker: He's described as a lazy man for a reason, preferring to sleep and not get up before 11.
  • Walking the Earth: In shame, he deserted his family after his little sister fell into a coma when he had tried to save her from the Shadow Decree trying to blackmail him into joining their side.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: His divination power doesn't work on non-living beings. Yalina is quick to exploit said weakness when she attempts to kidnap him while she's remotely controlling a puppet that looked like her when she was little as a normal human.
  • Year Inside, Hour Outside: When using divination, he's able to mentally experience all the paths laid out to him. He can actually experience days, weeks, and even years within these paths in the span of a few minutes outside his focus.

    Biondina (Poseidon)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/biondina_poseidon.png
"I'm tired of living dangerously."

Voiced By: Cat Protano (English), Hiromi Hirata (Japanese), Kim Chaeha (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

A former star of the Utgard arena who discarded her fighting days in search for a better easygoing life. Biondina is a fighter with spells that can shut down enemy buffs and then sweep them away with powerful water magic.

  • Biondina has a unique buff called Aquatic Sentinal, which reduces the damage she takes from targets whose ATK is lower than hers.
  • Tidal Wave damages an enemy based on Biondina's ATK and has a chance of inflicting Buff Blocker. If the target is unbuffed, Biondina deals extra damage.
  • Tsunami gives Biondina Aquatic Sentinel at the start of combat. If she's not incapacitated when her turn starts, she passively dispels a buff from a random enemy, with a chance of dispelling a second, at the start of each turn. This ability prioritizes targets with buffs, and is guaranteed not to miss. When ascended, the chance to dispell a second buff becomes a chance to dispell all of the targets other buffs.
  • Fury of the Waters targets and damages a single enemy while doing partial damage to all other enemies, damage being based on Biondina's ATK. This ability ignores all defenses of unbuffed targets, which is reduced for every buff an enemy has.

  • Armor-Piercing Attack: Fury of the Waters ignores DEF, making it useful against tanks.
  • Blood Knight: Formerly one until she got sick of Utgard's intrigue and oppressive nature.
  • The Dreaded: She used to be a frightening opponent at the Utgard arena. Now, only glimpses of her formidable past show whenever she has to fight.
  • Making a Splash: All of her attacks are water-themed, making use of crashing waves and such to slam into foes.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: As the host of Poseidon, she's been transformed into a silvery mermaid, with a tail that's several times the length of her torso. When attacking, she'll move up to enemies by slithering around.
  • Prongs of Poseidon: Her weapon is a trident, befitting the avatar of the sea god himself.
  • Status-Buff Dispel: Before she can act, her Tsunami passive dispels a random foe's buff (or 2, or all) without fail, making her a favorite to fight the Dark Star Lord.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: The main reason why she became a bounty hunter and left Utgard behind was because she couldn't stand how Alexa started to get manipulative of her.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Coconut water. She's often seen in line at trendy juice bars and is rumored to have traveled to all the coastal towns in Grandis to find the best coconut juice.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Dislikes being controlled even a bit that Alexa's controlling behavior drove her away from Alexa and out of Utgard. On top of this, she is also running away from her controlling family.
  • Walking the Earth: As a wandering bounty hunter. She can suddenly just decide to go across the continent in a spur of the moment.
  • Worthy Opponent: Mateo considers her one in a bounty story where the two wind up in a boxing match. Biondina doesn't return the sentiment at first until the end of the tale, when Mateo helps her fight off a few guys who were betting on the boxing match.

"I will restore my family's past glory."

Voiced By: Daniel Amerman (English), Kōki Uchiyama (Japanese), Seo Jung-ik (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

The scion and last surviving member by blood of House Ramses. He is on a path of vengeance to avenge his family's downfall. Previously Drew's protege. He is a fighter Esper who can protect one ally from certain death.

  • Hookstrike deals damage to an enemy based on Ollie's ATK, with a chance of inflicting Silence.
  • Salvific Judgements is a passive ability. When a teammate takes a fatal hit, Ollie will grant Salvific Judgements to prevent them from dying, granting them Invincibility and Recovery. He will follow this up by hitting the attacker with Law of Duat.
  • Law of Duat deals damage to an enemy based on Ollie's ATK, with bonus damage based on the target's Max HP. This attack taunts the target and inficts DEF Down, and when ascended it also grants Ollie Invincibility.

  • Armor of Invincibility: When an ally receives fatal damage, he will protect them with Salvific Judgements, give them invincibility and recovery, and he'll retaliate with Law of Duat.
  • Berserk Button: He dislikes Drew for failing to prevent the Gray Dust incident. However, Ollie very much misses Drew and subconsciously left a sign trail that only Drew would pick up during the story mode. Ollie's episodes have him on friendly terms with Drew and actually worries about being rude to him.
  • Big Little Brother: His adopted sister Laura is older than him, but he's still the taller one.
  • Brutal Honesty: In Swiftspace, Drew does his best to serve the best tea he can to Ollie. Ollie tells him that he hasn't improved, though Drew doesn't react badly and takes the comment to heart. On the other hand, Ollie's initial comment mentions that the tea was okay, only he becomes rude when being spoken to.
  • Character Development: During The Lone Star, his blind quest for revenge causes Ray to be killed, becoming a wake-up call for Ollie to consider his revenge. By the time his tale ends, he has come to understand Ray's guidance about protecting the people he has rather than prioritizing revenge. The lessons Ollie learned here are followed up into the story mode and his character episodes, where he is much less serious about his mission.
  • Companion Cube: His Golden Barrel cacti Frosty, whom he gives special care.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Of The Lone Star event tale.
  • God of the Dead: His powers are based on the Egyptian god of death Osiris. Ironically, Ollie's battle style revolves around ensuring his teammates and himself don't succumb to death.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: After Chapter 4, he joins Brynn and Drew for several chapters before departing by Chapter 9. However, since he wasn't released when the main story came out, he doesn't join for battles as a real guest.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He pretends to be arrogant to hide his real feelings, and he actually cares much about what is happening to the world. And when helping people in need, he will not admit his desire to help them by redirecting the conversation with a sarcastic comment.
  • Making a Spectacle of Yourself: The green glasses he wears are just to help him look older.
  • Older Than He Looks: Humorously, he's 20 years old, but he prefers to look older. The fancy glasses he wears are just for cosmetic use and not because he's Blind Without 'Em.
  • Only One Name: Averted. He's one of the few non-Chinese Espers to have a last name. His full name is Ollie Ramses, and he uses it as his SwiftSpace name.
  • Promoted to Playable: He was an NPC who appeared in the main story before becoming playable in the game's first post launch update.
  • Revenge: His main goal in life is to avenge House Ramses by hunting down Leon and bring him to justice.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Both of Ollie’s hands are inexplicably a bright, almost sickly green, in contrast to his pale face. While it goes unexplained in universe, in terms of character design it’s likely a reference to Osiris, who is often portrayed as having green skin since green is the colour of rebirth in Egyptian mythology.
  • Serious Business: Grilling, which he takes as a sacred art form. He will not hesitate to tell people to shut their mouths when he's on the grill.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: While growing up, Debia's members of the upper class never met his moral standards, and social gatherings with too many people tend to make him restless.
  • Spoiled Brat: His luxurious life as the scion of House Ramses made him rather anti-social due to his stubborness and unwillingness to communicate, making people think of him as a spoiled child. Ironically, he doesn't like children like him.

    Fatum Sisters (Nornir)

"Udanya: Past! / Vanessa: Present! / Sandrine: Future! / All: We are one!

Voiced By: Heidi Tabing (English), Aya Suzaki (Japanese), Bang Si-u (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Support

The popular Destiny's Kiss idol sisterly trio, composed of Udanya (oldest), Vanessa (middle), and Sandrine (youngest). Together, they're support Espers who can reduce foes' AP and speed up their allies.

  • Heart Beam deals damage to an enemy based on the Sisters' ATK, and has a chance to reduce their AP.
  • Sparkling Stage dispells all debuffs from an ally, while healing and granting SPD UP the party. The amount of healing is based on the Max HP of the ally having their debuffs removed. When ascended, the aforementioned ally will be granted Invincibility in addition to being cleansed.
  • Trio of Destiny attacks all enemies two times, dealing damage based on the Sisters' ATK. It also reduces the enemy party's AP and has a chance to inflict Miss Rate Up while granting DEF Up to all allies. If an enemy's SPD is lower than the Sisters', then their AP is reduced further per hit.

  • Chekhov's Gun: The fake prop knife from their magician fanatic is a Red Herring at first to the knife Vanessa saw in her dream with Udanya bleeding to death. It turns out the prop knife is the very same knife in the dream, and Udanya "stabs" herself and empties out its chamber filled with red liquid to pretend to die to lure Kara into opening their cage and get their chance to escape the lab.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Each sister is associated with a different colour, and wears it as part of her outfit. Udanya is yellow, Vanessa is purple, and Sandrine is pink.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: The color of their eyes all match their main colors. Doubles as Exotic Eye Designs.
  • Damsel in Distress: Both Udanya and Sandrine are kidnapped by Kara, who's attempting to experiment on them.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Of the Dreams Afar event, where they attempt to Screw Destiny to avoid disaster before their show.
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: During their event, each one of them experiences a prophetic dream in the same night, all of the dreams featuring disaster after disaster (Udanya dreamed about Vanessa falling down a flight of stairs, Sandrine dreamed about a black van crashing into their car, and Vanessa dreamed about Udanya dropped on the floor with a dagger through her chest, pleading them to escape). After the first two dreams occur, they fear for Udanya's safety and believe that their dreams were warnings connected to each other (though only the second dream turns out to be unrelated to the kidnapper). Their last dream turns out to be not quite the whole truth: when they get trapped by Kara, Udanya uses the fake prop knife gotten from their worried fan and "stabs" herself to pretend that she killed herself and sends her power with Sandrine's to Vanessa to make it look like their Esper powers are disappearing so their Esper-detecting bracelets alert Kara into opening their cage. Kara gets lured and attacked by the sisters, allowing them to escape.
  • Idol Singer: The sisters are a trio of pop idols called Destiny's Kiss.
  • Meaningful Name: The first initial of each sister's name matches up with the corresponding Norn of Norse Mythology; Udanya and Urðr, Vanessa and Verðandi, and Sandrine and Skuld.
  • Middle Child Syndrome: Vanessa believes herself to be this when comparing herself to her sisters. Udanya is the smart one, Sandrine loves to take the initiative, but she feels she lacks anything noteworthy. Meredith convinces her than she's able to notice things that the other two don't notice. This becomes crucial in helping Vanessa track down her kidnapped sisters at the Shadow Decree's Pluto Research Lab. She's loved by her mother as equally as her sisters, though.
  • Sibling Team: As the Espers of the three fates of Norse Mythology, the sisters are the only Espers who work as a trio. Functionally, they act as one Esper in battles.
  • Tabloid Melodrama: The sisters are almost always dealing with fishy tabloids trying to cast falsehoods out of anything that can be remotely spun into a controversy. After Udanya kindly put up a post that nothing like breaking up their trio was going to happen, the tabloid writers still ended up spinning that story. Cue Udanya crumbling up the tabloid into pieces, rolling up her sleeves, and walking out of the house in a huff.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: Their powers allow them to predict the future through dreams. All of them are stylized after the three Norn goddesses of Norse mythology who rule over the destiny of gods and men: Urðr (Wyrd), Verðandi, and Skuld.
  • Younger Than They Look: Their profile lists them as 18, but they look young enough to be high schoolers.
  • Unwanted Gift Plot: They used to get different presents for their shared birthday, which resulted in them fighting each other for not having the gift of another sister's, so they convinced her mother to just give them all the same gift with cosmetic differences. Flashforward to the present, they dislike how they all get the same gifts (they forgot their arrangement) and decide to ask for different gifts each by writing what they wanted in separate notes (that they didn't write their names on). Even after her mother got the notes scrambled by accident while on the streets, they all ended up asking for the same gift (Ahmed's latest music album, which is nearly sold out).
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Sandrine is a courageous little girl who's not afraid to kick scummy adults, though she practically panics at the sight of a little cockroach (and remains in shock for a little while after it's dealt with).
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Vanessa's dream of seeing Udanya bleeding on the floor with a knife stabbed through her chest is actually a fake wound Udanya pretends to inflict of herself to lure a desperate Kara into opening their cage and get attacked by the sisters for a chance to escape.

    Valeria (Quetzalcoatl)

"Sometimes a calm sea needs a few waves."

Voiced By: Paige Williams (English), Yuuka (Japanese), Shin Na-ri (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

The exotic captain of the Flyingplume Voyageurs, twin sister to Liam, and the game's first Aztec Esper. She's an intrepid seafarer who enjoys venturing into places where other bounty hunters fear to tread. She's a fighter Esper who can use her unique Snake Shape and Power Reserve buffs to increase damage dealt and decrease damage taken respectively.

  • Valeria has two unique buffs: Snake Shape, which increases the damage of her basic ability, and Power Reserve, which reduces any damage taken and disappears upon being attacked.
  • Launching Tide deals damage to an enemy based on Valeria's ATK, with a chance to lower enemy AP. Each point of Valeria's SPD increases the damage.
  • Plum Feathers is a passive ability. Valeria gains Snake Shape and Power Reserve at the end of her turn. When Power Reserve is triggered, Valeria's AP increases.
  • Serpent Surge gives Valeria SPD Up, and then she deals damage to an enemy based on her ATK while giving them SPD Down. Each point of SPD increases the damage. When ascended, the target's AP is completely cleared out.

  • Animal Motifs: Snakes and serpents, in both her snake-themed ability names and her pants that resemble a serpent's scales. It connects to Quetzalcoatl, who was a large feathered serpent from Aztec mythology.
  • Big Eater: She overstocks on food between voyages because of her voracious appetite. Brynn and Q mistake her actions when overstocking on food looking for her brother in the forest as food for him, but it's actually all for her because it took too long looking for him.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Though she is Liam's twin, she used to defend him from people bullying him when he was wheelchair-bound. She still retains the same attitude after he transformed into an Esper.
  • Blow You Away: Her third ability Serpent Surge sees her stir up a giant tornado to attack an enemy. Appropriate since Quetzalcoatl was the god of wind.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Stars in the Devouring Beast event, where she tries to reunite with her lost brother Liam.
  • Harping on About Harpies: Her powers are derived from the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, granting her large wings.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She just wears a bra that barely covers her large breasts on her upper body.
  • No Social Skills: She's horrendous at reading the atmosphere and at comforting others that she completely mistook a little girl's not-so subtle love declaration for her (wanting Valeria to be a boy) for a mistaken belief that men were more capable than women, and then another girl sought solace with her after a breakup...that Valeria suggested her to focus on the vast ocean instead.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Her Esper powers grant her a large pair of wings that she uses to fly and stir up winds.
  • The Reliable One: She's quick to act when help is needed among her crewmembers.
  • Spectacular Spinning: She likes to spin and even admits loving it.
  • Vapor Wear: Her large breasts are braless but are always covered by two strings of ornaments that cover them even when she's always facing high turbulence from her bird-like appearance.

"I failed agaaaaain! I'll definitely succeed next time..."

Voiced By: Michelle Jin (English), Risa Ori (Japanese), Kim Chae-rin (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Support

A young aspiring professional diver from her harbor hometown. She is a support Esper who provides protection to her allies while protecting herself with Dream Bubble.

  • Droplet Attack deals damage to an enemy based on a mix of Lian's ATK and Max HP. The target recieves ATK Down, and the ally with the lowest HP percentage recieves Recovery.
  • Bubble Bath attacks an enemy four times, dealing damage based on a mix of Lian's ATK and Max HP. Each hit has a chance of lowering the target's AP, while healing the ally with the lowest HP percentage. When ascended, the aforementioned ally gains some AP with each hit.
  • Protective Foam gives all allies DEF Up and Shield while putting Lian into the Dream Bubble state. In this state, she is incapacitated and immune to controls. All enemies have their Miss Rate increased, and Lian will heal an ally after they take a hit. When a teammate dies, Lian will revive and heal them, ending the Dream Bubble state.

  • All for Nothing: Warm Winter reveals that her efforts to save her home and mother were for naught, making her the Sole Survivor.
  • Awful Truth: By the end of her story event, she's still stuck in a "Groundhog Day" Loop, blisfully unaware that her hometown was still mysteriously ravaged under the protection of her conch shell. This takes an even more awful tone when it's revealed that she was unsuccessful in saving her home and her mother.
  • Bittersweet Ending:
    • In her story event, she manages to save the town and her mother from being ravaged by the Cube Miracle...except, as any player knows already, Estero Harbor was annihilated in the past anyway. Lian continues to relive the same day with happier results, unaware that her act of protection did nothing in the real present time. This takes an even bitter tone when it's revealed that Lian put herself in a Forced Sleep and Lotus-Eater Machine because of her obsession to be with her mother.
    • Played straight as a sweeter version in Warm Winter, where Hilda manages to get through Lian and end the Lotus-Eater Machine to mourn the passing of her mother and all her friends, all whom bid her farewell as they ascend to their afterlife. With renewed freedom, Lian leaves the ruined harbor town behind and goes out into the world to perhaps find her father somewhere in Gyrate if he's still alive, though she conditions herself not to hold on that hope to avoid getting hurt again.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Stars in the Endless Summer event, where she must find a way out of a strange "Groundhog Day" Loop.
  • Despair Event Horizon: She was at ground zero when Accro was ravaged by the Cube Miracle, at which time her Esper powers awoke and trapped the souls of all the people of the harbor town in a "Groundhog Day" Loop for her to keep relieving for thirteen years until she was brought to her senses by Hilda.
  • Doomed Hometown: Two-fold. Hazlitt (her birthplace) and her hometown are all but ravaged by present time, but her story event takes place before then. Even though she believes that she saved Accro, she's still stuck in the "Groundhog Day" Loop to notice, since it's actually a Forced Sleep dream.
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: She constantly dreams and relieves events of what will happen on the same day, which makes her want to find the solution to avert disaster. All of this is willingly from her wishes to keep Accro "alive" in her memories.
  • Forced Sleep: It turns out she placed herself in a dream of the last two days of Endless Summer.
  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: Her story event involves herself somehow being stuck in a time loop that keeps repeating the same day when the Cube Miracle rose from the sea and destroyed her home city and took everyone away, leading her to find a way to prevent the disaster and save her mother. Though she seemingly succeeds in saving the town and her mother, it's later revealed that she's stuck relieving the same day with slight differences, while the town is presently in ruins while shielded by her huge conch shell. It's later revealed that she placed herself in a Forced Sleep / Lotus-Eater Machine.
  • Hikikomori: A very bizarre example due to trapping all of Accro's deceased souls inside a giant magic conch shell that kept her and the souls within a Lotus-Eater Machine of her own making that she refused to dispel because she didn't want to come to terms with her mother being dead. This takes cues from the Chinese dragon Jiao Tu, who used to live behind high walls and refused to leave unless force was used which is exactly what happens to Lian when Hilda fights her to release Accro's souls free, and how the dragon liked to close things and keep them shut.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: She willingly created one to trap the souls of all of Accro's residents to keep relieving the two days prior Accro becoming ravaged by the Cube Miracle for 13 years, believing that it's better for them to stay alive in some way.
  • Odd Name Out: She's the only Chinese Esper whose last name isn't stated anywhere.
  • Older Than She Looks: Unlike the many examples from other Espers, she looks the same as she did when she was 18 years old, when she should be 13 years older than that. It's also implied that she's still 18 after she comes to terms with the death of her mother and friends.
  • Sole Survivor: She was the only survivor of her home when the Cube Miracle rose from the sea.
  • Tragic Monster: When she's confronted inside her conch shell dome by Hilda and Tevor, she appears as a creepy ghostly version of her real self. She gets better when she's defeated.
  • Vague Age: While her Esper bio lists her as being 18, it's revealed in Warm Winter that that's how old she was when the Cube Miracle descended on her home, as well as how old she was during the events of her time loop in Endless Summer. Warm Winter also reveals that she's been in this loop for 13 years, meaning she should be 31 by now, but after Hilda gets her to leave her world behind she still looks and sounds like a teenager, so it's unclear how old she's supposed to be now.
  • Walking Spoiler: The details behind what really happened at Accro is full of big spoilers that goes beyond the reason why she's in a "Groundhog Day" Loop.

    Hilda (Hypnos)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hilda_15.png
"The dead rest easy. The living slumber on."

Voiced By: Abigail Turner (English), Sae Manaka (Japanese), Kim Chae-rin (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Controller

A mysterious girl who warns Lian about the Cube Miracle disaster that will ravage her hometown, she is an undertaker who arranges funerals for the departed. She debuted first in Endless Summer before her proper introduction in Warm Winter.

  • Hilda has a unique buff called Deep Sleep, which, rather than actually buffing Hilda, inflicts Poison and Sleep at the start of any enemy's turn.
  • Sleep Tight deals damage to an enemy based on a mix of Hilda's ATK and DEF. This ability inflicts Sleep and extends the duration of all other debuffs on the target by one turn.
  • Delirium deals damage to all enemies based on a mix of Hilda's ATK and DEF. It inflicts SPD Down, two Poison effects, and when ascended, Sleep. Also when ascended, the duration of the Poison is extended by one turn.
  • Dream, Interrupted gives Hilda the Deep Sleep buff, then deals damage to all enemies based on a mix of Hilda's ATK and DEF. It inflicts DEF Down and two Poison effects, and if an enemy's DEF is lower than her's, they get two extra stacks of Poison. This ability also comes with a passive effect; Hilda's base DEF scales with her ACC, and if her target's ACC is lower than hers, her debuffs won't miss.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: When she was a child, she was ostracized by other children, who described her as a bug who grew inside a corpse.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: She sees death as something to look forward to, because she was taught that death is simply a new beginning rather than an end.
  • Creepy Child: When she first debuted, she appears creepy girl with pale skin, always appears with a black cat around, and just shows up out of nowhere. Though that was mostly Lian's perception of Hilda when Hilda was younger. In truth, Hilda appears more womanly-like in the present, and the cat that followed her around then was just Tevor, whose appearance was turned into that of a normal cat because Lian's dream turned him like that.
  • A Day in the Limelight: She stars in the Warm Winter event, where she performs several funerals for other people that culminate in trying to wake Lian from her Forced Sleep.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She debuts in Endless Summer before her release in Warm Winter.
  • Flower Motifs: Has a thing for Valerians and Thorn Brambles.
  • Forced Sleep: Her powers allow her to put people to sleep, which derive from the greek god of sleep Hypnos.
  • Gave Up Too Soon: When she was younger, she had arranged to meet up with her dad at Accro, but he was running a whole day late to meeting her there that she got frustrated and left the city before he arrived there that same night.
  • Poisonous Person: Most of her skills involve inflicting several stacks of poison on top of putting enemies to sleep.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: She shows up in Sea and Song to reveal to Li Guang that the tsunami that almost took her out had been stopped by someone's powers (Norah), and then later assists her in helping Norah out from her emotional distress regarding her friend's paintings that she threw at sea (though Li Guang's impulsiveness annoys Hilda).
  • The Stoic: As part of her job, she must stay as emotionless as she can to properly deliver speeches. She does display other emotions, though. When she wants Lian to stop the Lotus-Eater Machine, she outright is enraged and shouts at her to let go of the souls she's keeping captive in her Lotus-Eater Machine. Later on, at the end, she's able to smile and laugh with Hailey.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: When she found her father killed by Miramon, it was at that time that her Esper powers awoke.
  • Walking the Earth: She likes to travel around Gyrate in her van and offer her undertaker services to people who need funerals.

    Liam (Xolotl)

"...Ugh! ...Ah! ...Feel my pain!"

Voiced By: Richard Browning (English), Yutaka Iwanami (Japanese), Kim Ji-yul (Korean)
Attribute: FlowNote
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Defender

Valeria's twin brother, who was once wheelchair-bound until his Esper transformation turned him into a beastial canine Esper suffering from bouts of rampage and short-term memory loss. He was introduced in Devouring Beast and made playable in Sea Breeze, where he's doing a lot better and travelling with his sister. He is a Defender Esper who can heal, buff, and even revive allies while taking advantage of his team's basic attacks.

  • Liam's unique buffs are as follows:
    • Gemini increases his SPD and DEF. It's stackable and won't be removed in subsequent rounds.
    • Haven increases his DEF. When actively casting Life Slash, he calls in an ally with Vigilant to cast their basic ability as a follow-up.
    • Vigilant increases the carrier's ATK. When actively casting their basic ability, Liam will follow up with Life Slash.
  • Life Slash hits an enemy twice, dealing damage based on Liam's ATK and DEF. He reduces the target's Max HP ceiling and heals the ally with the lowest HP.
  • Berserk is a passive ability that increases Liam's C. RATE. When Liam or his allies cast a basic attack, he gains a stack of Gemini. Once per battle, Liam will revive an ally with some of their HP when he kills an enemy.
  • Bloody Lament grants C. DMG Up to Liam and the ally with the highest ATK. Both of them have their debuffs dispelled, and Liam gains Haven while the ally gains Vigilant. This ability's cooldown cannot be manipulated, and when ascended Liam gains a bonus turn after using this ability.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: He disgusted people by his mishaped legs when he was a child before he transformed. When he transformed, the disgust turned into fear for his abominable appearance and bouts of rampage.
  • Beast Man: He's a large bipedal dog Esper, taking cues from the Aztec god Xolotl, who was depicted with the head of a dog.
  • The Big Guy: Though he may appear much taller because of his long legs, he's actually a few centimeters shorter than Javid; the tallest beast Esper. Still, Liam is the second tallest beast Esper.
  • Birds of a Feather: He's able to relate to Q when the latter relates the ramifications of his appearance changing and affecting his whole life.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Sweeter than bitter. Feng Nuxi is able to come up with a way to at least keep his sanity in check rather than attempting to reverse his Esper transformation, though the method can still backfire and has to have him be away from civilization for when it's time to take his medicine. Not that this is any bad to him, because he and Valeria can just go seafaring and collect sizeable bounties to keep themselves fine.
  • Breaking Old Trends:
    • Alongside Alolin, he's the first beast Esper who's not of the Inferno attribute.
    • He's also the first Legendary Flow Defender since Donar, who was introduced during the game's beta tests and part of the cast at launch.
  • Contrived Coincidence: His name is just one letter away of being mistaken with Lian, who's another flow Esper with ties to the ocean.
  • Covert Pervert: In one of Valeria's Swiftspace posts, she asks people what to do for a video promoting their seavoyager team. What does Liam suggest?
    Liam: Girls!
  • Dark Is Not Evil: You have to squint really hard for this one, but this crazed, huge, muzzled canine with the hair and weapon with living eyes is not a bad guy, just suffers from bouts of rampage.
  • Delicate and Sickly: He used to be a frail boy who used to have crippled mishaped legs, bounding him to a wheelchair. He got all better when he became an Esper, at the cost of losing his sanity over and over.
  • Downer Ending: Multiple ones:
    • Should Brynn and Q arrest Valeria, Liam continues to be a rampaging threat to Graywater, and Fu Shi continues to manipulate him for his experiments.
    • Should Brynn decline to put a stop to him, Liam becomes sick with the guilt of causing mayhem and injuring Valeria that he fatally stabs his own chest and dies.
  • Epic Fail: Knowing how competitive his sister is, he tried to hide his Swiftspace post about learning how to make it look it she could win against him at chess, except he chose the wrong settings and ended up notifying her directly about it.
  • Hidden Depths: He's surprisingly good at chess, unlike his sister, who can't sit still.
  • Nice Guy: He's the Guard Captain of the Flyingplume Voyageurs, looking out after other sailors facing troubles while voyaging.
  • Promoted to Playable: He was originally introduced as an NPC and event boss in Devouring Beast back in July 2023. Come November of the same year and he finally makes his playable debut.
  • Rage Breaking Point: When he sees the villagers injuring his sister, he goes nuts and nearly succumbs to his madness unless either he takes his own life while sane enough, or Brynn and Q manage to stall for time enough for Raven and Feng Nuxi to arrive and stop him.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He used to look very similar to his sister when they were younger, but now, the only passing resemblance they share is the color of their pink human hair.
  • Tragic Monster: Due to his Esper powers exceeding their output of Divine Waves, he's unable to control his mind and goes on rampages unless he's treated. Thanks to Feng Nuxi developing a way to weaken the Esper power in him to keep him sane, he's able to live a stable enough life with Valeria by releasing Divine Waves in safe places.

"Yo! Wassup?!" *laughter*

Voiced By: Levi Squier (English), Takuma Nagatsuka (Japanese), Yun Yong-sik (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

A rude, loud, reckless, boisterous, alcoholic, hyperactive, trigger-happy, amnesiac, energetic, son of a gun bounty hunter, cannon-tuttin' dog from Graywater, and Lu Yi's partner (unfortunately). He is a fighter Esper who enjoys sowing chaos with additional explosive follow-ups.

  • Hahaha! deals damage to an enemy based on Brewster's attack, with a chance to inflict DEF Down.
  • Fast & Furious deals damage to an enemy based on Brewster's ATK and stuns them. Upon a successful stun, he gains Reload! Attack!. This lets him assist with ally attacks using In Your Dreams!, and his next attack will heal him for a percentage of his damage while also transferring his debuffs to his target. While attacking, he gains AP based on how many stacks of Reload! Attack! he has (can have a max of 6). If he does not successfully stun his target, Fast & Furious does extra damage.
  • Eat This! deals damage to an enemy bsed on Brewster's ATK and grants him some stacks of Reload! Attack!. This attack inflicts Buff Blocker, and if it lands a critical hit, erases the target's AP. When ascended, this ability gives C. Rate UP to the whole party.

  • Animal Motifs: The dog, which is in line to the Norse dog god of destruction Garmr, which is associated with Fenrir (of which Freddy is based from).
  • The Alcoholic: Loves his beer very much. His side event even has drinking beer as a way for him to relieve stress. It turns out it's the only characteristic of his that got carried over after he was transformed into an Esper by force.
  • Be Yourself: Upon learning about his fast, Brewster comes to terms with his sad backstory by recalling Lu Yi's words that it doesn't matter what people think of it. He's okay with learning about it anyway, but he chooses to be his Esper self and be proud of it.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: To Lu Yi, who gave him aid after Brewster fled from the Shadow Decree lab. This makes Lu Yi Brewster's Only Friend.
  • Birds of a Feather: Of all people, with Sieg, who also Escaped from the Lab and has no memory of his past prior meeting Brynn.
  • Chick Magnet: Due to his looks, he often gets the attention of many young ladies. Then he starts...being himself, and everything falls apart. Not that he cares any, though.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: To his disappointment when he finds out, he was just a washed out person whose mother died, and he was abused by his alcoholic father, who drove him to being The Alcoholic. Even worse, his father sold him out to the Shadow Decree behind his back for some quick cash allegedly.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Stars in the Desperado side tale.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Since he is a dog, he is deathly allergic to chocolate.
  • Escaped from the Lab: He was experimented on in a Shadow Decree lab, but escaped. The Desperado event story sees him and Sieg return to that lab to rescue Lu Yi and learn more about Brewster's past.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He can get angry at people very quickly if he's stressed out or just finds them annoying. In the Desperado event, his temper is turned into a gameplay mechanic if the player explores the Memory Maze for too long. It turns out his short temper was a side effect caused by his forced Esper transformation, next to his Laser-Guided Amnesia.
  • Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: Brewster wears a pilot cap and an orange jacket, but completely lacks bottom clothing and footwear.
  • Ignorance Is Bliss: A wealthy young girl manages to convince him to wear clothing specially made for him in exchange of buying all the beer he wants. Obviously, Brewster accepts the offer and enjoys a lavish time until Lu Yi sees him wearing bunny ears, despite the fact Brewster had said before realizing that he was showing off his new look.
  • Jerkass: He barely cares about making Lu Yi collateral damage to his reckless bombing, though Brewster really takes the cake when Lu Yi is kidnapped by Djoser, because Brewster was annoyed by Lu Yi insisting on helping him learn about his past before he fled the Shadow Decree. Instead of immediately going after Lu Yi, Brewster brushes off the event and wastes his time drowning his sorrows at his favorite bar before he has to get kicked out by security and lectured by Sieg to change his mind about rescuing Lu Yi.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: He can't remember anything before he was experimented by the Shadow Decree, not even his real name.
  • Laughing Mad: His voice lines are full of hyperactive cackling. Even the name of his basic attack is just "Hahaha!" (though it was called "In Your Dreams!" for some time after his release before it was changed back).
  • Mad Bomber: More reckless and impulsive than actually crazy, but he's still obsessed with blowing things up.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Brewster doesn't remember what his real name is, and "Brewster the Blaster" is a name that was given to him by other bounty hunters.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: He's one of the tiniest Espers in the game, but he's powerful and destructive with a very hot temper.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The (extreme) red oni to Lu Yi's blue.
  • Rocket Ride: Frequently seen riding around on his rocket cannon like it's some kind of hoverboard.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: His favorite answer to anything that annoys him.
  • Tranquil Fury: After he spent three months helping out Alice in obtaining ingredients specifically hard to get, he is very obviously seething when he finds out that Alice's experiment turned out to be a piece of chocolate, which he's allergic to. He calmly responds by blowing it up in the air.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: It was Lu Yi who helped Brewster out after the latter had escaped the Shadow Decree. And yet, when Lu Yi is kidnapped, Brewster decides to go drink himself under the table rather than go rescue Lu Yi because Brewster wasn't happy about Lu Yi insisting on helping him recover his lost memories by infiltrating the Shadow Decree. It takes some time before Brewster has to be convinced to go save Lu Yi.
  • The Unreveal: He does learn his backstory before being forced to become an Esper, but it's never revealed what his name was. His pre-Esper appearance is never shown either, but he was described as looking like a completely ordinary person.

A wandering archaeologist and old friend of Narmer's. He may seem timid, but he has a keen sense of judgement and determination, and is an accomplished researcher whose work is frequently referenced by Miracle researchers.

  • Word Launch deals damage to an enemy based on Cang Ji's ATK and DEF, with a chance t inflict Diseased. This attack deals extra True Damage to the non-boss enemy with the highest Max HP. True Damage is based on the enemy's Max HP, and can't go higher than a percentage of Cang Ji's DEF.
  • Definitive Form deals damage to all enemies based on Cang Ji's ATK and DEF, and has a chance to stun. If an enemy does not get stunned, then their buffs are dispelled and there's a chance to reduce their AP. Each point of SPD gives this attack extra damage, based on Cang Ji's DEF.
  • Cosmos Writing lets Cang Ji select an ally. If the HP percentage of the non-boss enemy with the highest of said stat is above that of the selected ally, then the ally's HP percentage is raised to match the enemy's. Then, Cang Ji deals damage to all enemies based on his DEF, and the greater the enemy Max HP, the greater the damage. When ascended, the selected ally will also have their AP raised to match that of the non-boss enemy with the highest AP should it be higher than theirs. The HP percentage and AP increases do not work on bosses, and they are not regarded as healing or a standard AP increase.

  • Adorably Precocious Child: In appearance only, however. He's 37.
  • Adventurer Archaeologist: Zigzagged. He is very clearly an academical archaeologist like real life ones, though having Esper powers gives him the "adventurer" role.
  • Blessed with Suck: He speculates that his Esper powers affect his blindness by changing its affliction so much that he has to change into different lenses to solve the issue before having to repeat the process all over again.
  • Blind Without 'Em: He needs to use glasses. In fact, he has dozens of lenses in his box, and each pair of them have different specifics. He mentions that his blindess tends to fluctuate into different levels, which he speculates it is because of his Esper powers.
  • Heroic BSoD: When his father had died during an expedition, he became shut off from the world and didn't want to explore, though the thrill to explore the unknown teased him that he slowly came out of his shell and regained his passion.
  • Meaningful Name: It rather obviously draws upon the divine powers from which they are named from except by one letter of difference.
  • Older Than They Look: He may look and sound like a young boy, but he's actually 37 years old.
  • Running Gag: His boyish appearance is often brought up in his episodes, with kids thinking he's Alice's apprentice to wondering why a "kid" like him is a professional archaeologist.
  • Universal Eyeglasses: Averted. He gets a special set of glasses from Meredith that has multiple uses and can help his changing vision issues by automatically changing by themselves. However, they're only for exploration purposes, because otherwise their functions come across as too bothersome when used for daily life.
  • Visual Pun: Albeit a mildly insulting one. The legendary figure Cang Jie was said to be a historian with four eyes. The glasses-wearing Esper Cang Ji is also a historian (an archaeologist), and people with glasses are often mockingly called "four-eyed".
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: His introduction post on social media mentions that his biggest fear is snakes.

    Javid (Shamash)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/javid.png
"I will judge all the injustice in this world!"

Voiced By: Christian Cartano (English), Takashi Tsutsumi (Japanese), Kwon Seong-hyeok (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

The former Chief Marshal of Mylo who was imprisoned at Mylo Prison for allegedly trying to escape with his men and leave civilians to die to the Withering Miracle, he was the last survivor among all the Marshals who died in a Miramon attack. He is a stoic man who ensures he follow true justice, even if it can be perceived in a bad light. He is a fighter Esper who can exploit his unique Judgement Seal debuff to deal splash damage on random targets.

  • Javid has a unique buff and debuff at his disposal. They are...
    • Sacred Flame, his buff. Before he attacks, Javid dispells all damage overtime effects from himself, including Poison and Bleed. He deals extra damage based on the number of Do T effects dispelled, based on his ATK.
    • Judgement Seal, his debuff. When an enemy with this debuff is hit, splash damage is dealt to two other random enemies, with the damage being based on their Max HP.
  • Divine Wrath deals damage to an enemy based on Javid's ATK and inflicts DEF Down. If the target has Judgement Seal and any other debuff, another random enemy takes splash damage.
  • Divine Might deals damage to all enemies based on Javid's ATK and inflicts Sear. He also deals extra True Damage to targets with Judgement Seal, based on their Max HP. Javid's AP increases if he lands a Critical Hit (different targets calculated independently).
  • Eternal Light gives Javid Sacred Flame while the enemy party gets Judgement Seal. Then Javid attacks one enemy first, dealing damage based on his ATK and inflicting Diseased, and then he attacks the whole enemy party. If his target's HP is above a certain amount before the second attack, they become stunned. When ascended, the Diseased given to the first target cannot be resisted.

  • Ambiguous Situation: Did he die while taking on the Raging Lion at Old Kush City?
  • Animal Motifs: Lions, which are very prevalent in Mesopotamian art and mythology.
  • Beast Man: Javid is a large lion man.
  • The Big Guy: The tallest Esper of them all. He beats Pritzker by 3 centimeters (Pritkzer is 200cm, Javid is 203cm)!
  • BFS: He wields a large broadsword that's as tall as he is.
  • Cowardly Lion: He came to be known as this for fleeing with his Marshals on the few sand boats available. Though he wasn't escaping, but rather luring Miramon away with the Lion's Heart in tow. Disastrously, his men sacrificed themselves and he only survived, being branded as a cowardly criminal.
  • Good Is Not Nice: When it comes to justice, he won't look the other way. His sense of justice is so strong that he didn't think twice about incarcerating his own younger brother for his white-collar crimes.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: He knew full well he'd been seen as a coward and a criminal for his act to lure the Miramon away from Mylo and have his men sacrifice themselves to save the surviving children, but he did so to avert even greater disaster.
  • Interface Screw: At the beginning Sands of Guilt, when Javid knocks out Tang Xuan and leaves him in the desert, he also takes Tang Xuan's phone from him. This actually leaves the player unable to access the phone from the story map until the end of Act 2, when the phone is retunred.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Though he's strict with his subordinates, he likes to give them anonymous gifts by their bedsides and pretend it wasn't him when asked if he sent them.
  • Mr. Fanservice: He's the biggest Esper, he's muscular, and his Esper trailer showed him shirtless while chained up in prison. All the ingredients.
  • Power Limiter: He doesn't have one, he is one for the Withering Miracle. His true purpose for being incarcerated at the Mylo Prison - tailored for himself - was so that he could be in close proximity to the Lion's Heart, which amplified his Esper powers and allowed him to keep the dormant Withering Miracle close by at bay on the pretext that he was incarcerated as an excuse to do his job. Even after escaping, he kept the role and took down the Raging Lion - the guardian of the Lion's Heart - by leading it away from New Mylo.
  • The Power of the Sun: His Esper powers are largely based around the sun and light, which is in line with Shamash being the Mesopotamian god of justice and the sun.
  • Sacrificial Lion: Did so in the past and survived at great cost. In the present, it's rather unclear if he survived his final bout against the Raging Lion, though.
  • The Stoic: He's incredibly unflappable and hard to change his blank mood.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Barbecue. His album gallery shows him eating large slabs of barbecue comically topping a smaller bowl of rice.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: While incarcerated, he was shirtless before his escape allowed him to show off his drip.

    Ginny (Hestia)

"Woah! Hey, calm down. Don't scare away the customers!"

Voiced By: Nola Klop (English), Nana Hamasaki (Japanese), Kim A-rong (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

The head chef of the Golden City with a boundless passion for her craft. She is a Fighter Esper who is proficient in tanking, self-healing, and single target control.

  • Ginny has two unique buffs. They are...
    • Intense Heat, which increases her damage for every 20 ATK gap between her and her target. When she's hit, she heals herself for a portion of her lost HP, and then deals True Damage based on her ATK per stack of this buff. Each stack of this buff increases her ATK.
    • Chef's Zest, which increases her ATK and chance to counterattack, and expires after she does the latter. If she gains a duplicate stack of this, she gains ATK Up instead.
  • Double Fire deals damage to an enemy based on Ginny's ATK. She inflicts Taunt, which can't be resisted if the target has no buffs, and cannot crit with this attack.
  • Simmer Flame dispells all of Ginny's debuffs. If she has three stacks of Intense Heat, she gains Chef's Zest, otherwise she just gains a stack of Intense Heat. She also gets a stack of Intense Heat at the start of combat.
  • Stir-Fry Heat hits an enemy five times, dealing damage based on Ginny's ATK. Each hit steals a buff and the last one inflicts Taunt, which can't be resisted if the target has no buffs. Ginny heals herself for a portion of the HP she's lost, and this attack cannot crit. When ascended, if her target has no buffs to steal, this ability's cooldown is decreased by 2 turns.

  • Anime Hair: Bright pink with six total braids (4 in the back, 2 in the front) and bangs that swoop upwards.
  • Like Brother and Sister: She and Alexa grew close and began to view each other as sisters after Alexa came into power and Ginny joined her staff. Alexa used to eat at Ginny's parents' restaurant and was always cheered up by their food even when she was feeling down, and Ginny loves making Alexa smile with her cooking, unable to understand why others are afraid of her.
  • Living Weapon: The cooking pot she sits on and attacks with is sentient and has a face.
  • Supreme Chef: She's the head chef of the Golden City, who has traveled to every corner of Grandis to improve her dishes and awakened her Esper powers in the process, which have only enhanced her cooking.

    Unas (Shu)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/unas_shu.png
"Healing Wind, that's what some people have called me."

Voiced By: Mike Rad (English), Ryōhei Kimura (Japanese), Choi Nak-yoon (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Support

A gentle bounty hunter known as the Healing Wind who uses his powers to help those in need. He is a support Esper who can speed up allies by giving them extra AP and make himself faster with his unique Haste buff.

  • Unas' unique Haste buff grants him 30 SPD per stack, and he can have up to three stacks. A stack is dispelled upon attacking.
  • Follow the Wind attacks an enemy 3 times, dealing damage based on Unas' ATK. He has a chance to inflict DEF Down, and every 10 SPD grants extra damage.
  • Zephyrus is a passive ability. At the end of Unas' turn, if he is able to take action, he grants Immunity to the whole party except himself. When ascended, at the end of an enemy's turn, he gains a stack of Haste.
  • Gale Force attacks all enemies, dealing damage based on Unas' ATK. Every 10 SPD deals extra damage, and the whole party is treated to an AP boost.

  • Achilles' Heel: Unas is all about increasing speed and hitting fast, and his passive Zephyrus is only able to work if he can still act at the end of his turn and it's the only way he can gain his Haste buff. As a result of this, Espers that can stun, freeze, or otherwise incapacitate him are really good at shutting him down, as are Espers with speed lowering abilities.
  • Battle Couple: He fights alongside the spirit of his deceased wife.
  • Broken Bird: The death of his wife caused him to become withdrawn from people, until he awakened to his Esper powers and he traveled with Biondina, which helped him to come out of his shell and become a different man from what he used to be.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He doesn't like talking about the significance behind the spirit of his ex-lover.
  • Fragile Speedster: His main utility is to increase the speed of his allies' actions while buffing his own. That being said, he can still be made to endure.
  • Nice Guy: He likes to help any people in need and doesn't focus on the big picture but rather the little problems.
  • Older Than They Look: He looks fairly youthful for a 42-year-old.
  • Order Versus Chaos: Once his wife died, the power struggle between the Esper Union and the Shadow Decree mattered little to him that he became fully neutral. However, his travels with Biondina had convinced him to be a force of good, albeit alone.

    Xuan Pin (Jiutian Xuannu)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xuan_pin.png
"Strategy is a philosophy that is deep, intricate, and breathtakingly beautiful."

Voiced By: Sam Slade (English), Kumi Takaragi (Japanese), Kim Chaerin (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Support

The defense commander of Raine's wall, and former colleague to Mateo. She's described as a flawless strategist, whose efforts have made Utgard an "indestructible paradise". She is a support Esper with a wide selection of unique buffs at her disposal.

  • Xuan Pin has an impressive five unique buffs, the most of any Esper. They are...
    • Cannon, which ignores a portion of the target's DEF when doing damage. When this effect expires, its carrier is Stunned.
    • Chariot, which grants extra ATK and SPD. When this effect expires, the carrier gains the Soldier buff.
    • Horse, which amplifies damage the carrier deals. The higher the target's Max HP, the more the damage is amplified. This effect doesn't work if the target has an elemental advantage.
    • Soldier, which adds some ATK for every stack of it. Gain five stacks, and this buff turns into the Chariot buff. If the carrier has General or Chariot, they cannot have Soldier.
    • General, which can only be held by Xuan Pin. This buff calls in one random ally with the Soldier buff to assist whenever Xuan Pin does damage, and then gives them another stack of Soldier. When Xuan Pin dies, the ally is cleared of all of the other four buffs.
  • Strategic Pieces deals damage to an enemy based on Xuan Pin's ATK. Any allies with Horse and Chariot gain some AP.
  • Heavy Cannonade lets you select an ally to give Cannon to, as well as a large amount of AP. Then, Xuan Pin deals damage to all enemies based on her ATK, inflicting DEF Down and dispelling any Shields.
  • Checkmate grants a stack of Soldier to all allies, and Horse to the two allies with the highest ATK. Then, Xuan Pin attacks all enemies, dealing regular damage based on her ATK, True Damage based on the enemies' Max HP, and inflicting Miss Rate Up. At the start of a fight, Xuan Pin gains General, and all her allies get a stack of Soldier. When ascended, all allies gain ATK Up in addition to Soldier when Xuan Pin uses this ability.

  • Chess Motifs: Her character is themed around the game xiangqi, also known as elephant chess, which is China's most popular board game. Her unique buffs are even named after some of the pieces from the game.
  • Covert Pervert: During the second story mode, she shows off her ability to draw fast but incredibly realistic drawings, though for some reason, the drawings she shows off are all about Mateo (one of them was even of him working out shirtless). Though her audience wondes why they're all about Mateo, they don't question the shirtless drawing. She still gets a bit defensive about the subject, though.
  • Deuteragonist: Of the Immortal Fire story event, when Mateo used to be the defense commander of Raine's Wall.
  • Hidden Depths: She's a superb artist who can draw very realistic drawings in a matter of seconds.
  • Older Than They Look: She's 26, but her short stature and youthful face make her look like a teenager.
  • Smart People Play Chess: She is the Defense Commander of Raine's Wall in Utgard known for being an expert strategist, and she's also a very skilled chess player. She's never lost a single game, with the only person coming close to beating her being Mateo.

    Anna (Persephone)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anna_83.png
"This world should not be swallowed by darkness..."

Voiced By: Courtney Steele (English), Haruka Satou (Japanese), Gang Eun-ae (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

Norah's friend when she was a teenager, who came to Estero Harbor from Gemstone Bay. An aspiring painter who was color blind. She made her debut as a major NPC in Sea and Song before becoming playable. She is a Fighter Esper with buffs designed to protect her and keep her alive.

  • Anna has two unique buffs. They are...
    • Rainbow Shield. In addition to being immune to petrification, Anna will consume one stack of this buff to block the first hit of an incoming attack, and then counter with her basic ability Heart Aflame. She can have up to 20 stacks.
    • Rainbow Seed. When Anna takes a fatal hit, she consumes a stack of this buff to prevent herself from dying. She will also dispell all her debuffs, heal herself, and get a bonus turn. She can have up to 3 stacks.
  • Heart Aflame deals damage to an enemy based on Anna's ATK, and ignores some of the enemy's DEF based on her SPD. This ability also deals True Damage, and Anna gains a certain amount of AP for every buff she has.
  • Full Spectrum deals damage to an enemy based on Anna's ATK, and ignores some of the enemy's DEF based on her SPD. She steals all her target's buffs and gains 2 stacks of Rainbow Shield. If she has at least 5 stacks of Rainbow Shield after casting an ability, she follows up with Heart Aflame. When ascended, she gets 5 stacks of Rainbow Shield at the start of a fight.
  • Spring Returns grants C. DMG Up and Immunity to her whole team, and gives her 5 stacks of Rainbow Shield. Then, she deals damage to an enemy based on her ATK, and ignores some of the enemy's DEF based on her SPD. She gains a stack of Rainbow Seed at the start of a fight, and for every 5 hits that Rainbow Shield blocks, she gets another one.

  • Deaf Composer: She likes to paint, but she suffers from color blindness. She became friends with Norah when she found her singing beautiful and able to convey colors to Anna through songs.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: The color of her eyes is basically a large combination of several colors, which only ironically add to her color blindness.
  • Posthumous Character: She died when the Cube Miracle descended right as her boat was about to arrive at the harbor. Her spirit was somehow consumed into the Cube Miracle. If she's awake, so is the cube, which will go on to cause more destruction. However, Bemusement Park added Anna to the playable roster, so whether or not she's truly dead is up in the air.
  • Promoted to Playable: She debuted as a major NPC in Sea and Song before Bemusement Park officially made her playable.
  • Vague Age: Her profile lists her age as ??? due to becoming a spirit tied to the Cube Miracle.

Other Non-Playable Characters

    Sieg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sieg_6.png
Click to see him in Chapter 12 (MAJOR SPOILERS)
Brynn's rock n' roll partner, who's fiercely loyal to her since they met. At the start of the story, he is abducted by the Shadow Decree for unknown reasons.
  • Aborted Arc: The Desperado side tale has him trying to recruit Brewster to raid the Shadow Decree lab to find information about his past before he was experimented on. However, only Brewster finds out about his own past, but after that's done, there's no mention of Sieg looking for data on his past.
  • Ambiguous Situation: The exact details of when he met Brynn are unknown. It is known that Brynn met him when she was younger (as proven by the flashback of when she was younger trying to reach out for Sieg's hand after Sieg is defeated in the final battle, though the flashback had him as he was in the present).
  • Badass Normal: He wasn't even an Esper, and yet he managed to hold the burly Freddy with a chokehold using one hand and pulling him off the ground.
  • Birds of a Feather: He relates with Brewster due to both having Escaped from the Lab from the Shadow Decree and wishes to help him recover his memories before they were experimented on.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: As stated above, he's able to hold the hulking Freddy up off the ground with one hand. Justified, as he was previously captured and experimented on by the Shadow Decree, so his super strength is likely the result of the experimentation.
  • Deuteragonist: Of the Desperado side tale, assisting Brewster in recovering his memories before he also Escaped from the Lab.
  • Distressed Dude: At the start of the story, he is kidnapped by the Shadow Decree, prompting Brynn to go rescue him.
  • Escaped from the Lab: Nine years prior to the events of the story, Sieg was captured by the Shadow Decree to be experimented on, but he managed to escape. He was captured again by Leon and Freddy after he and Brynn were ambushed by them and a Miramon after a concert.
  • Final Boss: Of the main story, after being forced to become an Esper supercharged with Miracle power.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is derived from the warrior Siegfried, who was loved by the valkyrie Brynhildr (Brynn's Esper form's).
  • One-Winged Angel: The final phase of his boss fight has him going under a major transformation thanks to the Miracle power and getting a serious power up to his attacks.
  • Tragic Monster: After being turned into a super Esper, he loses all sense of logic and must be defeated.

    Tang Na (El)

Sachiko's former teacher and caretaker at the Nielheim Orphanage, who became amnesiac after barely escaping death.

  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Averting death thanks to Sachiko awakening to her Esper powers caused her to lose all memories of her past, which also caused her to suffer from bouts of memory loss like Embla (except less troublesome) and a need to absorb divine waves to get enough energy to work.
  • Mercy Kill: Her Final Request to Sachiko after she turns into a Miramon.
  • Remembered Too Late: She is able to remember her adoptive daughter Sachiko right before she succumbs to her tragic transformation into a Miramon, though she is able to relay her wish to die by Sachiko to be "free" from her lost self.
  • Tragic Monster: Her dependency on absorbing divine waves slowly made her lose her humanity until she becomes a Miramon that has to be killed.

    Cora

The Fatum Sisters' mother.

  • Good Parents: Though she is dealing with three superpowered daughters, she is always calm and kind, and her daughters adore her.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Strangely, she is entirely absent during the Dreams Afar event without getting a mention, but only appears in her daughters' side episodes.

    Markiplier

Voiced by: Markiplier

An astronomy researcher who definitely isn't modeled after someone named Markiplier. He was added as an alternate Bounty giver alongside the Beard Contest event.
  • Actor Allusion: Markiplier wearing a space suit is in-line with his In Space with Markiplier video, with the trailer mentioning he somehow ended up in the world of Dislyte.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: He literally looks like Markiplier in a space suit.
  • Quest Giver: He replaces Discboom as the person who gives you bounties. A button next to the Bounties stand allows players to switch between the two.

The Lone Star Event

    Anita

A young girl who hails from Oasis. She is found by Ollie and tags along with him to search for her parents.

  • Birds of a Feather: With Ollie and Laura:
    • As the tale progresses, she starts to become just like Ollie: she loses her family to the same assassin (Leon) who murdered Ollie's father, and she also becomes so obsessed with revenge that she doesn't prepare herself for what else could happen on the way down that path, which she learns the hard way when her impulsiveness leads to Ray's death.
    • By the end of the event, Laura adopts her into their family, and one of Laura's episodes even draws parallels with Anita's running away to see the stars (believing that her parents are watching her as stars) just like how Laura ran away from home to see where her parents lived when she was young.
  • Happily Adopted: Is taken in by Laura, who reminds herself in Anita as Laura was also adopted into House Ramses.
  • She Knows Too Much: Not her, but her parents were involved with House Ramses's Artificial Guardian Project, making them targets for Leon to kill to keep knowledge of the project a secret. For their involvement, they are murdered by Leon.

    Ray

A bounty hunter from Oasis, whom Anita affectionately calls him uncle. Appears in The Lone Star side tale.

  • Badass Normal: Despite not being an Esper, he has led a band of bounty hunters who can fend off the Miramon.
  • He Knows Too Much: As one of Ollie's father's closest allies, he was in the know about the Artificial Guardian Project, which the Shadow Decree stole and has sent Leon to dispose of anyone who knows about the project to keep it a secret.
  • Hidden Depths: It turns out he's one of Ollie's father's closest allies.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: As a harsh reminder about what revenge can do, he is murdered by Miramon after failing to persuade both Ollie and Anita to avoid going after a wounded Leon back to his hiding place. It's his death that convinces both Anita and especially Ollie to stop obsessing with revenge least they want to lose more to it.

Static Shock Event

    Hannah

Gaius's fiancée, who was killed during a Miracle attack at Estero Harbor.

  • Action Girl: Despite not being an Esper, she still dirtied her hands fighting the Miracles.
  • Disaster Dominoes: Her death unwillingly caused a lot of trouble to the Esper Union when Hyde was driven into a Heroic BSoD, pushing him into amoral research that resulted in the creation of the Artificial Esper Project that led to Fan Liang's death and Jiang Man's suicide that made her be reborn as an amnesiac vengeful on the Esper Union, Embla's memory loss that made her forget everything about her past and her own boyfriend, and Embla's and Fu Shi's desertion to the Shadow Decree when Hyde first conceived it. Then, his own desertion was the start of multiple incidents. His desertion prompted his pupil Anesidora from defecting alongside him, destroying all of Chalmers's research (her own pupil) on her exit out. Later, she started to experiment on her own lowly members and Berenice's Moon Eye members and turned them into brainwashed slaves willing to explode upon defeat while also experimenting on the creation of a Super Esper on Sieg (Brynn's partner) and Joe (Q's friend), the latter who dies from being a faulty experiment, and then there's the ambiguity of what exactly she did that was so oddly convenient for Lynn's revenge.
  • Posthumous Character: Dead a while ago by the time the story proper starts.

Fireworks Celebration Sidequest

    Jasper

Attribute: Flow

A subordinate to Ashley.

  • Arc Villain: Of the Fireworks Celebration sidequest.
  • Degraded Boss: She gets demoted as a regular enemy in the non-canon Calamity Island mode.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: She tries to kill many innocent people in a selfish move to avenge her parents being left behind by Ashley.
  • Meaningful Name: She's fully dressed in green, just like one of the many colors of a jasper.
  • Tragic Villain: She absolutely hates Ashley for not choosing to save her parents over countless more people by prioritizing more lives over theirs, pushing Jasper into villainy by killing many innocent people during the celebration. Thankfully, she is stopped.

Ruler's Law Event

    Luca

A researcher who formerly worked for the Union but was discouraged to pursue his research. He appears in the Ruler's Law event.

  • For Science!: Despite the ammorality of his research, he wants to complete it no matter the cost. Since he was going to the Shadow Decree, he didn't care much about the little sacrifices done on the way.
  • Mad Scientist: Implied. His research involved imbuing people and Espers with a power amplifier using the Miramon as power sources. However, the Union saw this as a dangerous tool as it would not only cause people to clamor for it, but it would also make the Union's mission to take down the Miracles worthless to keep using the tool. Despite this, Luca wants to pursue his idea. And he originally was going to join the Shadow Decree, but Abigail got in the way and made him choose her side.

Truth Unveiled Event

    Li Xiao
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/li_xiao.png

Voiced by: Josh Portillo
Attribute: Flow

Captain of the Radiant Guards and formerly a close friend to Yun Chuan.
  • Arc Villain: Of the Truth Unveiled event.
  • Birds of a Feather: He saw himself in Yun Chuan, as both of them were judged by society for being commoners. He also connected with Yun Chuan due to their desire to deliver right justice on a corrupt system.
  • Despair Event Horizon: While working for the Radiant Guards alongside Yun Chuan, Li Xiao was driven to despair when he learned that everything he achieved up until then would be easily discarded by his own higher ups for being a lowly pawn. Working at the lighthouse that overlooked the Chaos Miracle was just another way for the sentries there to await death because of its proximity to the Miracle, meaning he (or Yun Chuan) was disposable fodder while alerting people to save themselves. This made him go insane and trigger a false alarm that caused distraught people to break into a stampede, which caused deaths.
  • Driven by Envy: He was very envious of Yun Chuan's righteousness and admitted that he was better than himself, because Yun Chuan had the courage to rise up as a hero and even came back as one after he had disappeared but feels like he himself can't hope to become one after the false alarm incident was caused by his small moment of weakness.
  • It's All About Me: Though he didn't exactly cause Yun Chuan's apparent death, his desire to claw his way up the social ladder from being a former orphan on the streets and believing that Yun Chuan had died and taken the truth of the false alarm incident Li Xiao himself caused out of stress, he still wants to ensure that Yun Chuan is really dead to keep his post as captain, because at least he's got power and won't be tossed aside by his superiors.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Though he was ready to die for triggering the false alarm, Yun Chuan took pity on him and took the blame, getting imprisoned in Nether Gaol and used as a lapdog. Li Xiao had initially tried to help Yun Chuan, but the stress of being just a pawn to his superiors caused Li Xiao to undergo a Face–Heel Turn and tried to get Yun Chuan killed so the truth about the false alarm would die with him.
  • Please Kill Me if It Satisfies You: After being defeated by Yun Chuan, he asks Yun Chuan to kill him to repent for his sins. Yun Chuan, not having any of it, decides to punch him good for what he did to Li Ling, Tang Xuan, and himself, but he chooses not to kill Li Xiao, because he believes Li Xiao must live with the guilt to become a better person for it and still has a chance for redemption.
  • Precision F-Strike: During one of the cutscenes in Truth Unraveled where he’s being confronted by Yun Chuan, he uses the word “shithole”, which is not only the harshest swear the game has used up til that point, but also rather out of place with the rest of his demeanour.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's very hard to talk about him without going into detail about what happened with the false alarm incident.

Evening Glimmer Event

    Gordon

Alexa's right-hand man and second in command of the Golden City casino.

  • Arc Villain: Of the Evening Glimmer event. He's the one responsible for framing Intisar with a false murder charge, and he wants to oust Alexa from her position as head of the casino by using a weapon system no one but him knows about to get rid of her.
  • The Starscream: He wants to take over the Golden City by using a weapon system to get rid of Alexa. Thankfully, Intisar puts a stop to his plan and he's implied to have been arrested.

Dream of Redemption Event

    Fan Liang

Jiang Man's former fiance who worked for the Union. Appears in the Dream of Redemption event.

  • Floral Motifs: Carries a spider lily around in his jacket pocket. It ties him in with his fiancee Jiang Man, who is heavily linked to the same flower (especially after Fan Liang's death). His forced Esper transformation even gives him powers revolving around the spider lily.
  • Posthumous Character: He is dead since Jiang Man became an Esper. Due to becoming a mindless monster chasing Embla and Fu Shi in a secluded area, he was killed by Embla trying to protect Fu Shi.
  • Tragic Monster: Though he is successful in turning into an Esper, he becomes a giant monster that can barely has any conscience before fully losing it.

Dusk & Dawn Event

    Cory (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

A young boy from Tabaton who lost his parents to the Whispering Miracle.

  • Adorably Precocious Child: He's a little cheerful kid who looks up to heroes, wanting to become like them.
  • Came Back Wrong: Though he was revived by Divine Waves, this caused him to become "trapped" in Tabaton where the Divine Wave Transmitter is located at, so leaving the town means death. Furthermore, like all the other residents there, he has to take illegal Esper serum in order to avoid becoming a monster.
  • Death of a Child: He was already dead prior meeting Leora and Ye Suhua, but he was revived through Divine Waves restarting his heartbeat.
  • Delicate and Sickly: He's afflicted with a condition that ties him to the Divine Wave Transmitter and can only live within its range. Furthermore, he has to take Esper serum to avoid becoming a monster.
  • Face Death with Dignity: After he learns about his connection to the Divine Wave Transmitter, he tells Leora that he'd rather die a brave man if being a hero is out of the question. Whether this is good or not, the device is left on, keeping him alive at the expense of being tied to Tabaton and his "medical" treatment.
  • Head Pet: He carries an unnamed cat on top of his head who reacts to his emotions.
  • Hero-Worshipper: He idolizes heroes and wishes to become one like his parents were (despite the fact his parents weren't heroes but disposable human fodder for Debia), practically jumping at the call when he learns Leora and Ye Suhua are from the Esper Union. But once he learns that his future to live is uncertain, he resolves himself into being happy for being a brave man to Face Death with Dignity instead. Luckily or not, he continues to live when the transmitter is left to continue working.
  • Walking Spoiler: His whole condition and being previously dead are two huge things that unravel the dark secret behind Tabaton, making it hard to talk about him in detail.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: Should he leave Tabaton or not take Esper serum in time, he will die.

    Barros (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

The mayor of Tabaton and Honorary Uncle to Cory.

  • Big Bad: Zigzagged. Ultimately, he cares about the Miracle refugees of Tabaton, but he still wants to detonate the Divine Wave Transmitter to see who will survive and become an Esper even if the chances for that happening are astronomically low.
  • Honorary Uncle: Though not related by blood, he's this to Cory. He falls into Creepy Uncle territory due to feeding Cory lies about his parents being heroes who actually were just poor citizens placed into Debia's Defense Force full of other lower people meant to be used as fodder for protection.
  • Not the Fall That Kills You…: Despite falling from a very high watchtower, he somehow survived the fall and is able to fight Leora after injecting himself with a lot of Esper serum to become empowered (and a monster).
  • The Social Darwinist: The Struggler type: he looks down on Debia's society for driving the Miracle refugees into being expendable fodder and then completely abandoned them to their fates, so he founded Tabaton to solve it. Unfortunately, he saw the Divine Waves as a means to help said people into becoming Espers and become independent from having to live within the radius of the transmitter, even if it would mean that only very few people would turn into Espers from the ensuing explosion from detonating it killing the rest.
  • Walking Spoiler: His true motivations could have hidden this whole entry.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Averted in the end. He wanted to grant the refugees a chance to survive from being tied to the Divine Wave Transmitter, but knowing that the chances for them becoming Espers through the otherwise very fatal detonation were low, he still wanted to go ahead with it.

In truth, he is the mastermind of the event and leader of The Crows, having controlled the siblings' father through the brainwashing music box to get his entire money donated to a "charity" and force him to burn his home down.

  • Arc Villain: Of the Sea of Sorrow event, inviting the last people connected to the incident from 15 years ago to dispose of them through Yamato and Yuuhime.
  • Brainwashing: His main method to control all his subordinates is through a magic music box. Yamato finds out two weaknesses of the music box: it doesn't work on deaf people, and constant use of it through a short time weakens its power on its targets.
  • The Butler Did It: If you felt there was something odd with him just being known as "Butler"...

Immortal Fire

    Nicholas (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

A wealthy and successful business man who was running for mayor of Utgard. Former owner of the Golden City.

  • Arc Villain: Of the Immortal Fire event. He was trying to gain political power by using a twisted version of The Needs of the Many by sacrificing his opposing protesters (and many of Mateo's soldiers) to show "how" well Raine's Wall could defend Utgard with his Divine Wall plan.
  • Asshole Victim: Mateo ends up killing Nicholas because he deemed Nicholas far too dangerous for Utgard to have as mayor due to Nicholas' lack of sympathy for people unwilling to support him, going as far as to have them killed unwillingly under false pretenses to show the rest he's in the right.
  • Broken Pedestal: He idolized Mateo ever since they were in school together and was moved by Mateo's courage, cementing their close friendship. Unfortunately, Mateo learned of his true plans and disowned him as a traitor, which resulted in Nicholas casting him aside and Mateo killing him in front of a bunch of news reporters.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: He's fed up by Mateo's complete trust on Xuan Pi over himself and tried to blame her into working for the Shadow Decree in front of many reporters to get rid of her and blemish her name, which only causes Nicholas to get a fiery hand straight into his heart for his troubles.
  • It's All About Me: Behind closed doors he's an egotistical narcissist who badmouths Mateo's second in command, Xuan Pin, for disagreeing with him. He can't even see her as an equal, only a naive child in his eyes. He arrogantly believed that Mateo will come back to him if his plan had succeed, and he's quick to anger when Alexa mocked him about his problems.
  • The Needs of the Many: He wanted to expand Raine's Wall by two kilometers into a residential area of 200,000 people, though said people are poor people barely living by. He explained that there needed to be harsh sacrifices to ensure Utgard would still stand, but this was all just an excuse for him to gain an upper edge in the elections.
  • Shrinking Violet: Used to be one when he was younger and was bullied for it.
  • Slasher Smile: When he reveals his intentions to Mateo on stalling for time to kill soldiers and protesters alike for a "better" demonstration of the Divine Wall.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Despite knowing the Miramon would attack the towns outside Utgard, he continued the construction of the holy shield to protect the lives of everyone in Utgard. Turns out to be averted, greatly averted, because during the third act, he revealed to Mateo that he planned to wait until the Miramon attacked the homes of the rioters to show the people of Utgard the importance of his Holy Shield. He's willing to sacrifice the lives of the Wall guards, he'd even lied and manipulated his own best friend, Mateo. In the end, he cared more about himself and winning the election than the people who once trusted him.

Sands of Guilt

    Malik

The new if unpopular Chief Marshal of New Mylo.

  • Disappeared Dad: His dad was a former Marshal who died under Javid's orders, which are the source of Malik's hatred for Javid. His father willingly sacrificed himself to protect the fleeing children, however.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: The disastrous event from four years ago made the Mylo citizens see all Marshals as nothing more than scum who only look after themselves that they have no respect for Malik. By the end of the story, public opinion is slowly starting to see Malik in a better light, albeit they don't trust the rest of the Marshals as much.
  • Hidden Depths: He's a closet Destiny's Kiss fan.
  • No Sense of Humor: His only humor only seems to bring up bad dad jokes.

  • Good Parents: She truly does love Lian and does want her to pursue her dream of being a professional diver. It's just that Xia is known to be difficult to get her emotions across and she may snap if Lian doesn't recognize all the hard work she's been putting for their sake.
  • Workaholic: Raising Lian alone was hell for Xia, who took over many jobs and pushed herself into exhaustion to make ends meet. More so to support Lian's professional diving expenses.

  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: His work kept him so busy that he missed seeing his daughter during her birthday when Accro was destroyed by the Cube Miracle.

  • My Greatest Failure: After her husband was killed and their home ravaged by the Cube Miracle, she accepted to send Farrah to an orphanage so she could have a better future, but the truth was that the orphanage was a research facility where Farrah suffered many gruesome experiments to gain a second Esper power. Though Daphne had a feeling the offer seemed shady, she still regretted her decision, which led to a heartbroken Farrah deciding to never see her again.

Cellblock Chaos

    Amber

A new assistant warden recruit working under Jin Qiu at Nether Gaol. Unlike Jin Qiu's toughness on inmates, Amber has a more idealistic view.

  • Dramatic Irony: For someone who wants to uphold justice and sees Jin Qiu as someone who abuses his position with his interrogations, she's no better than him: firstly, she holds personal interrogations with Toland and turns off the cameras to have more privacy, which Toland exploits by making a bogus story that his Shadow Decree contact is Jin Qiu in order to put heat between Amber and Jin Qiu while no one can corroborate Toland's claims; secondly, Amber buys Toland's fake bunny story and gives him an obsidian bunny statue off-cameras, which later proves to be Toland's ticket out of his cell by fashioning a lockpick to release himself from Divine Wave restraints; and lastly, even after all's said and done, she still believed that Toland had a chance at redemption, which ends up costing her dearly with Jin Qiu turning into a tragic scapegoat to Toland's escape and is sentenced to prison.
  • Hope Bringer: Despite Jin Qiu's distate for her less harsher methods on interrogating inmates, he truly believes that people like her need to be in Nether Gaol and wishes for her not to become as cynical as he is today.
  • The Idealist: Compared to Jin Qiu's cynicism, she believes that inmates at Nether Gaol still should have a small light of hope by treating them less harsher than Jin Qiu does. Unfortunately for her, Toland takes advantage of this to his favor in escaping.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She doesn't take it well when she realizes Toland set himself free through fashioning a lockpick from the obsidian bunny that Amber gave to him for his fake bunny story. Realizing she was fooled and Jin Qiu became a prisoner for nothing, she swears revenge on Toland by hunting him down to clear Jin Qiu's name.
  • Naïve Newcomer: She's treated as such by everyone else at Nether Gaol, laughing at her for even criticizing how Jin Qiu runs the maximum security prison. Toland even exploits her naivete so he can escape while also forcing Jin Qiu to take the fall for a crime he didn't commit, but rather Amber indirectly made happen.

  • Identical Stranger: For some reason, a dream Feng Xun once had depicted her looking exactly like Jade from Fireworks Celebration. Feng Ling doesn't even resemble her actual unique young girl look.

Farewell Fireworks

    Li Tiangang

One of the several council members of Tangton. He advocated for Yu Ran to become a council member despite his Esperhood. Has a very personal past with Su Jue.

  • Bait-and-Switch: While he may look intimidating, has a past with Su Jue when he personally enjoyed torturing her, he is not the Big Bad of Farewell Fireworks. It's actually his Beleaguered Assistant Qin Shui trying to manipulate Su Jue's vendetta on Li Tiangang to kill him in cold blood so that Tangton is convinced that Espers are a threat.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Once he caught Su Jue and put her behind bars, he subjected her to very sadistic torture; from cutting her to damaging her throat with liquids. Once she catches him, she is more than ready to do the same to him as revenge before trying to kill him.
  • It's Personal: He despises Su Jue because she impersonated him in appearance using her Esper powers and proceeded to humiliate him doing embarrassing actions that got recorded and spread on the internet, which severely damaged his reputation.
  • Killed Off for Real: He's murdered by Qin Shui when Su Jue is given a chance to drop her act and save herself from a harsh sentence using Yu Ran's help.

    Ren Xian

One of the several council members of Tangton. He disapproves of Espers being treated as equals.

  • Arc Villain: He's the overall human villain of the Tangton Anomaly event, who's trying to ensure that Espers don't receive equal treatment in Tangton. He's also the one responsible for trying to kill Ikki's father to conceal the truth about the dangers of lingering too close to the Miracles.

    Qin Shui

Li Tiangang's well-meaning assistant.

  • Beleaguered Assistant: Li Tiangang has a low opinion and treats him like trash for not being ready to answer some unexpected situations. This treatment causes Qin Shui to plot his boss's death at the hands of Su Jue.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He wants to exploit Su Jue's vendetta on his boss by having her kill him and prove that Espers must be monitored in Tangton.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: He secretly plots to have Espers be treated as glorified animals in constant watch in Tangton, despite what his friendly attitude may say. That's without mentioning he wants to have his boss murdered for abusing him, which he's forced to take matters into his own hands when Yu Xu intervenes in Su Jue's assassination.
  • Freak Out: When hidden surveillance footage reveals that he carried off a bound and gagged Li Tiangang to murder him during fireworks drowning off his gunshot, he immediately panics and goes pale in the face.
  • The Man Behind the Man: He's working under Ren Xian's orders.

The Miracles

Strange giant monoliths that can suddenly appear out of nowhere, bringing devastation and spawning the monstrous Miramon. Their arrival also heralded the birth o Espers, their connection to them still unknown.

    In General
  • Always Chaotic Evil: The Miramon are always intent on killing people and destroying anything on their path. They will always hunt down any living being and literally will not try to do random destruction (it confuses them to deal with non-living beings like robots).
  • Apocalypse How: The closer a Miracle spawns near a city, the more devastation it will bring. That's without counting how each Miracle has a special destructive attribute.
  • Big Bad: It's because of them that the world is in such a dangerous situation for years.
  • Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: Their exact origins are so unknown that they are this.
  • It Can Think: Some of the boss Miramon like the Dark Star Lord and Count Sonica are capable of talking. On a lesser extent, several Esper stories reveal that even the lowest Miramon are able to discern where people have been to when reaching locations that used to be inhabited by humans.
  • Palette Swap: Andras is just a white version of the black Withering Messenger from the Anomaly event.
