The Seven Maidens

Formerly hostages for Kalvaxus' world ending scheme, these girls have banded together to create their own adventuring party.

    In General
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Or player characters. Each maiden contrasts with one of the Bad Kids:
    • Antiope and Fabian are both the unofficial team leaders who have to live up to their famous and powerful parents' legacies. While Fabian was the only heir of the Seacaster name and had to learn humility, Antiope is the caboose of the Jones family and lacks confidence that she can be like her other siblings.
    • Danielle contrasts with Fig, as rebellious support-focused spellcasters who keep their emotions guarded from their friends. Fig is an archetypal, leather-clad rebel who does it more for the attention and acts fairly immature, while Danielle is considered the most mature of the group and is actively involved in taking down the system. Both of them also live with non-traditional family units.
    • Katja contrasts with Gorgug, her fellow half-orc. They're both aggressive physical fighters that ironically come off as shy and quiet in social settings with missing parents, and have taken up different hobbies to deal with their emotions (Katja is a horse girl and Gorgug is a metalhead). Gorgug is Happily Adopted with Amazingly Embarrassing Parents who are incredibly emotionally attentive, and spends the majority of the first campaign looking for his biological father. Katja, on the other hand, has a fraught relationship with her father and isn't looking for her mother, but when she finds her... she kills her in anger for being abandoned.
    • Ostentatia and Kristen are clerics who undergo crises of faith and are considered their respective parties' main healers, but while Kristen is generally kind and agreeable, Ostentatia is aggressive and argumentative while still truly caring for her friends. Kristen actively communicates with her god but worships others when he doesn't give her the answers she needs, while Ostentatia's god generally doesn't communicate with her until she casts the commune spell and meets him in person, but she still grows closer to him as the plot develops. Kristin grew distant from her family due to her parents' bigoted natures, while Ostentatia is very close with her family despite their arguments.
    • Penny and Riz are both rogues, and the most diligent yet smallest members of their party. Riz often overextends to have all the answers despite his age, whereas Penny is positive and upbeat. Riz is implied to be asexual while Penny is implied to be a bit of a freak despite being a maiden.
    • Sam and Adaine are both powerful spellcasters who are closely associated with villains from the first season of Fantasy High and suffer Parental Abandonment. Adaine struggles with anxiety and develops problems with panic attacks, whereas Sam gives into rage and admits herself that she has developed anger issues. Adaine is a wizard with an academic focus on the arcane, while Sam is a bard/sorcerer who powers her spells with emotions and charm.
  • Damsel in Distress: In Fantasy High they primarily serve this role, being kidnapped and trapped in crystals in order to fulfill Kalvaxus' schemes. Becomes a collective group of Damsels Out Of Distress in the Seven.
  • Extreme Mêlée Revenge: They collectively beat up Kalavaxus after he is resurrected and tied up expressly for this purpose.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Defied by the players, who have stated that, despite being non-human, Katja is Indian, Yelle is Asian, and Sam is Black.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Started out as a random group of strangers trapped in a dragon's lair, have since grown into a tight-knit adventuring party.
  • Heroes of Another Story: An adventuring party of high school students who aren't the Bad Kids.
  • Took a Level in Badass: From being chained maidens for a red dragon to becoming their own badass adventuring party.
  • Virgin Sacrifice: The reason why they were chosen as sacrifices. The girls themselves lampshade how arbitrary this part of the prophecy sounds.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: The Seven tend to argue more than the Bad Kids, but that doesn't mean they won't outright attack Principal Aguefort if they believe he's threatening to break them apart.

    Antiope Jones

Antiope Jones

Played by: Aabria Iyengar

Race: Human
Class: Ranger (Monster Slayer) / Fighter (Arcane Archer)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest58.png
"Fuck dragons, let's go!"

The unofficial leader of the Seven.

  • The Ace: One of the only two of the Maidens who has been offered a internship opportunity in recognition for her talents, the other being Penny.
  • The Dragonslayer: Has developed a deep seeded hatred for dragons ever since getting captured to the point she's dedicated her monster hunting abilities to slaying them.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: L-Cab, which is short for Long Caboose.
  • Embarrassing Tattoo: She discovered that she got a tramp stamp that spelled "Leader" in mismatched font during a trip through the Red Waste. Unsurprisingly, she wasn't happy about it.
  • I Got Bigger: Had a growth spurt during her year trapped inside a crystal.
  • Large Runt: She's 6'1", which is quite tall, but she's the second shortest of her siblings.
  • The Leader: Of the Headstrong variety. She has a natural talent for being a leader, being much more outspoken and daring than most of her teammates, but she categorically refuses to be called as such by her companions.
  • Master Archer: Her primary weapon is a bow and arrow.
  • Military Brat: Everyone in her family has served in the armed forces of Solace, and her home has a military grade obstacle course.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Has this reaction when she shoots Yelle by accident thinking that she was a dragon.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: She, along with her entire family, is named after Greek gods and heroes.
  • Token Human: She's the only human in her party.

    Danielle Barkstock

Danielle "Yelle" Barkstock

Played by: Erika Ishii

Race: Half-Elf
Class: Druid (Circle of the Shepherd)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest59.png
"They gotta get sustainable or they gotta get gone."

A half-elf nature girl who seeks to take down the system.

  • Beware the Silly Ones: She participated in destroying the crystal pipeline with fellow anarchist Bud Cubby, and was initially complicit with Penelope's plan to destroy Solace until she discovered it would've been taken over by a draconic monarchy. Not what you'd expect from a spaced out hippie girl.
  • Berserk Button: Hinted at when Sam tells her that "nature sucks" during a heated moment. Yelle takes a noticeable pause but composes herself and claims she will "let it slide."
    • Everything about The Baronies is designed to push all of Yelle's berserk buttons, from the colonizing, nature exploiting capitalists to the haughty rich jerkoffs that flaunt their wealth.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Danielle's habit of putting everyone else's needs ahead of hers is deconstructed to the point where she comes off as distant to her friends.
  • Creepy Good: Played with. Yelle herself isn't creepy, being kind and chill. However, all of her nature powers focus on the nastier, grosser side of nature that people overlook in favor of the traditionally "pretty" aspects.
  • Eco-Terrorist: Despite her zen demeanor, Yelle is particularly involved with violent organisations, like Bud Cubby's, in order to take down infrastructures who harm the environment.
  • Dissonant Serenity: She is incredibly mellow even during combat. As Antiope discovers it is because she prioritizes things like her friends and helping the ecosystem above her even her own emotions.
  • Feathered Fiend: One of her favorite moves in combat is summoning a small flock of aggressive geese (with the statistics of raptors). She later escalates this by polymorphing Sam into a giant goose.
  • The Heart: Sharing this role with Ostentatia, she's the most aware of other people's emotions and psyches, which makes her a natural conflict-solver.
  • Granola Girl: As fitting for a half-elf druid, especially with her anti-authority, anarchist leanings.
  • Magic Mushroom: Her druidic aesthetic leans more towards mushrooms and moss than flowers.
  • Not Afraid to Die: Has a cyclical, natural view of life and death and thus isn't too worried about her own life.
  • The Pig-Pen: Freely embraces having a cloud of spores follow her everywhere.
  • Playful Hacker: Is able to pirate copies of the Legendarium Extrordia onto everyones' crystals.
  • Off the Grid: Lives in a yurt with her two moms that's completely detached from the rest of Elmsville's power grid.
  • Tranquil Fury: While the girls are holding the Conflict Ball over whether horses are better than bears, she calmly and sharply tells them to knock it off.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Erika describes Yelle as the most emotionally mature character they've ever played.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Is fine with the idea of sacrificing a few folks in order to take down the system.

    Katja Cleaver

Katja Cleaver

Played by: Rekha Shankar

Race: Half-Orc
Class: Fighter (Battle Master) / Barbarian

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest60.png
"You know, sometimes you find problems with humans, but I find no problem with a horse."

A soft spoken half-orc girl and lifelong equestrian.

  • Affluent Ascetic: Her family owns a large estate, a full waitstaff, and 101 horses, but she's kept her own room unchanged since childhood and focuses all of her expenses on her favorite horse Cinnamon.
  • All Girls Like Ponies: She really loves horses. She was even the champion of her middle school equestrian team.
  • Ambiguous Situation: her relationship with her dad. It's not talked about much but it's strange that she is a Half-Orc yet both her mother and father are full Orcs.
  • And Another Thing...: She goes on a string of these one-liners when she's facing her mom.
  • Aroused by Their Voice: When she briefly imitates her mother's voice the party goes wild.
  • Berserk Button: Implying that anything could be better than a horse is a big one for her.
    • To a lessor extent, her mom ignoring her seems to draw out a big reaction from her
  • The Big Gal: Like Zelda, she's freakishly strong and robust, which makes her a bit self-conscious about not being able to help much in non-combat situations.
  • Gentle Giant: Is the tallest out of the Seven and an absolute sweetheart.
  • Hates Their Parent: Justified in regards to her mom who abandoned the family when she was young.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Her father is often out on deadly adventures, which leaves Katja alone with the manor staff and her horses.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: With Koda the Bear for suggesting that he is just as skilled as her horses.
  • Stepford Smiler: Towards her father, since she doesn't want him to feel guilty for providing for her.
  • Strong and Skilled: As a Battle Master Fighter with pretty high Intelligence, she's very talented in the arts of combat, and she's also very powerful.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: It's clear that Katja is hurt by her father's absence due to his constant adventuring.

    Ostentatia Wallace

Ostentatia Wallace

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan (Fantasy High), Isabella Roland (The Seven)

Race: Dwarf
Class: Cleric (Forge Domain)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest62.png
"You know I love confrontation."

A dwarven girl with a bit of an attitude.

  • Adaptation Personality Change: Is far more aggressive and confrontational in The Seven than she was in Fantasy High.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job: Has blonde hair in Fantasy High, but is a brunette in The Seven.
  • Bling of War: Is wearing an absurd amount of jewelry, which includes her blinged-out hammer.
  • Catchphrase: "I love you." Usually uttered after loudly arguing with her friends or family.
  • Everyone Has Standards: She claims to love confrontation, but when she realizes that she truly hurt Zelda with her words, she is quick to apologize.
  • Girls with Moustaches: Averted. Despite dwarven women in Spyre being capable of growing beards just as full as men, and taking the same pride in them, Ostentatia prefers to keep her chin cleanly shaven.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite her flaws, she's always the first to tell her friends and family how much she loves them to the point that it's practically her catchphrase.
  • Joisey: Speaks with a noticeable Jersey accent, and has the Rambunctious Italian sass to back it up. She's even described as "Jersey Mansion Trash".
  • The Heart: Sharing this role with Yelle, she's very in tune with her own emotions, and a lifetime of living with her equally strong-of-personality parents has given her the ability to understand conflict and resolve it without bad blood.
  • Hot-Blooded: She's a very blunt and emotional person. Fortunately she's working through it and can recognize when she's acting like a "raging bitch".
  • Mock Millionaire: Comes from a working class family, but wears a lot of jewelry to give off a rich girl vibe. Said jewelry is handmade, but she wants everyone else to believe they're expensive designer brands.
  • Pretentious Pronunciation: Parodied due to a bit between the players of The Seven on Adventuring Party. Izzy chuckles at how "Wallace" isn't a very Joisey name, so she jokes that the pronunciation of "Wallace" is actually /wəlˈɑːt͡ʃˌeɪ/ ("wull-AHTCH-ay"), to sound more Italian. It ends up sticking for the rest of the run and eventually becomes canon.
  • Reformed, but Rejected: Seems to have this relationship with Aelwyn Abernant, the High Elven girl who captured her in Season 1 and underwent character development in Season 2. To be fair to Ostentatia, it's not clear that she would know anything about Aelwyn's growth, and The Seven may take place before or during the events of Season 2.
  • That Makes Me Feel Angry: Ostentatia does this knowing full well how much of an emotional hothead she can be to prevent blowing up in front of her friends.

    Penny Luckstone

Penny Luckstone

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan (Fantasy High), Becca Scott (The Seven)

Race: Lightfoot Halfling
Class: Rogue (Arcane Trickster)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest61.png
"Hey, you guys, I made you friendship bracelets!"

Riz's former babysitter and a student at Aguefort who went missing prior to the Bad Kids freshman year.

  • Babysitter Friendship: Befriended Riz as his babysitter and was in fact his only friend before he went to Aguefort.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Is apparently a skilled enough rogue that she receives an internship opportunity from a Covert Group of assassins and rogues that are willing to recruit her. Notably, the only other person to be offered an internship was Antiope.
  • Birds of a Feather: She's much more charming and sweet than him, but she's even more neurotic and driven than Riz.
  • Go-Getter Girl: A textbook example from her overly starched clothes to her meticulous note taking; she has demonstrated an obsessive need to overachieve.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: She has 19 siblings, and is the eldest. She lists them in episode 2: Katie, Susie, Johnny, Bobby, Billy, Ginny, Kathy, Becky, Joey, Millie, Ollie, Wally, Dolly, Kenny, Kelly, Carrie, Dewey, Hallie, and Laurie (the baby). So also, Theme Naming.
  • Nervous Wreck: She's really cheery and enthusiastic, but she overthinks things a lot, tries to keep as much order as possible, and tries her hardest to be the best at everything, which makes her look slightly manic.
  • Nice Girl: By all accounts, she was one of the nicer students at Aguefort before her disappearance. When Riz is trapped briefly in a palimpsest and can talk to her, she reassures him it was not his fault that he didn't find her sooner and thanks him for trying. After finally being rescued, Penny runs to him and gives him a big hug before excitedly introducing herself to the rest of the Bad Kids and thanking them.
    • The trailer for The Seven shows Penny offering the other girls friendship bracelets that she made out of the remains of a magic mirror.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Becca Scott has hinted she's more of a freak than she lets on.
  • The Pollyanna: Has a sunny disposition that defies all logic and self preservation, to the point where her companions have to snap her back to reality.
  • The Smart Gal: She's incredibly well-versed in the arts of the arcane, and has been a straight A student since as far as we know.
  • Stepford Smiler: Her relentless optimism is enforced by her upbringing, where she was always told to smile through everything no matter how bad it gets.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: When waking up while chained outside of Kalvaxus' lair, she's disappointed by the amount of slack the chains have.

    Sam Nightingale

Sam Nightingale

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan (Fantasy High), Persephone Valentine (The Seven)

Race: Water Genasi
Class: Sorcerer (Storm Sorcery) / Bard (College of Glamour)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest57.png
"...I might have anger issues."

Former friend of Penelope Everpetal who's dealing with her own path in life.

  • Attending Your Own Funeral: Though it was just an illusion made by a strange magical time trap. Sam gets thrown into a vision of her own funeral with Penelope giving the eulogy. She immediately casts infestation to end it.
  • Beta Bitch: Formerly one to Penelope Everpetal.
  • Broken Bird: After being tricked by her best friend to be used in Kalvaxus's plan, Sam is slowly moving away from that past relationship she had with Penelope. While she still remains headstrong and independent, it's clear that this betrayal hurt her deeply.
  • Cain and Abel: The Abel to Penelope's Cain.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She's capable of throwing barbs at the drop of a hat towards anyone who makes her mad or she finds a distaste for. She even gets a few good roasts towards Penelope during their call.
Penelope: I would do a lot to get back into this world, Sam.
Sam: I bet you would... I really bet you would. But sadly, those knees are scuffed enough.
  • The Fashionista: Is often well dressed no matter the occasion.
  • Former Child Star: Used to be one when she was younger.
  • Freudian Excuse: Her mother disowned her and she moved in with her closest friend who left her to be sacrificed to become Prom Queen.
  • Happily Adopted: Was adopted by the Everpetals after being disowned by her biological mother and considers them her real parents. When the Everpetals end up divorcing because of Mr. Everpetal cheating on his wife, Sam offers to burn his belongings if it would make Mrs. Everpetal feel better.
  • The Lancer: Her confrontational nature and natural charisma mean that she's often this to Antiope, The Leader of the group.
  • Suppressed Rage: She presents herself as a cool fashionista, but there's an underlying current of traumatic anger that bubbles out every now and again.
  • Personality Powers: She's a Storm Sorcerer, and has a tempestuous temper to say the least.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: For some reason, she's dismissive of and looks down on Gorgug, Zelda's boyfriend, which is specifically not elaborated upon and particularly strange considering she has never met Gorgug.
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: She uses her mirror to talk to Penelope, who's currently in Hell, and their interaction devolves immediately into trading barbs
  • Trans Tribulations: Mostly from her abusive Stage Mom, who only recently came around to her because her identity "was trending".
  • Trauma Conga Line: Where do we begin? Her birth mom disowned her after she came out as trans, her best friend/adoptive sister sacrificed her to a red dragon just to become Prom Queen, and her adoptive parents have decided to divorce as a result of said sister's actions. All of this occurs before the season's first episode has ended!
  • We Used to Be Friends: She and Penelope were considered best friends, but this relationship is no more due to Penelope using Sam as part of Kalvaxus's plan and put her in a palimpsest. While Sam is rightfully furious about this and speaks coldly of Penelope, it's clear how much that betrayal affected her.

    Zelda Donovan

Zelda Donovan

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zelda_donovan.png
"This is honestly so stupid, but did you get my playlist?"
Race: Satyr
Class: Barbarian (Path of the Totem Warrior)note

A painfully shy satyr with a crush on Gorgug.

  • The Berserker: As she worships the god of wine, she's able to go into a berserk like rage in a fight.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: You would never know that she's from a family of battle dancers who partake in wine, rampant sex, and horrifically bloodthirsty bacchanals. Apparently her rages, being divinely inspired instead of just emotional, are so much more destructive that she needs special extracurricural classes.
  • Birds of a Feather: Both she and Gorgug are socially awkward wallflowers who share a taste for metal music.
  • Dance Battler: As part of her barbarian abilities.
  • Emo Teen: Her character art and taste in music portray this, which is partly why she and Gorgug get along so well.
  • Extreme Mêlée Revenge: With the other maidens, they gang up on Kalvaxus after he's resurrected and tied up.
  • Extreme Omni-Goat: The goat half of her means her stomach can handle anything. She brings Gorgug a rose for their date, only to hastily swallow it when someone points it out.
  • GMPC: Is the only member of The Seven who isn't a player character.
  • Hidden Depths: The only interest she really mentions is metal music. Which turns out to be a lengthy uninterrupted list of all the sub-sub-genres of metal she likes. It's also implied that she's quite the artist.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: The major reason why she's so close with the rest of the maidens, since outside of them she only sees herself as a Satellite Love Interest to Gorgug.
  • In Love with Your Carnage: She avoided Gorgug after his fight with Ragh, which led him to believe he scared her off. She was actually embarrassed by how much it turned her on.
  • Love Interest: For Gorgug.
  • Out of Focus: In comparison to the rest of The Seven since she's a DMPC.
  • Shrinking Violet: Shy and withdrawn, Zelda speaks very quietly and tends to avoid eye contact with whomever she is speaking to.

The Seven's Families

    Carl Cleaver

Carl Cleaver

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/karlcleaver.png
"Hey kiddo, guess what, we're in a maze that eats you!"
Race: Orc
Class: Fighter

Katja's father, a famous adventurer.

  • No Indoor Voice: He is always speaking in a way that seems he's on the verge of shouting excitedly. Tectonya even comments on it when talking about him and their past... interactions.
  • Parental Neglect: He loves Katja, but he's away more often than he's home, tragically because he's trying to provide for her.
  • Parents as People: A unique example. He isn't quite a normal person, but he lives life as if he's still in his highschool/adventuring glory days and doesn't want to let that feeling go. He also admits later that he started being unfaithful to his wife when he learned she didn't really care for him but was just there on assignment by the Ministry Of Adventuring.
  • Sympathetic Adulterer: He was unfaithful to his wife, but only because she didn't actually love him and was only around because the Ministry Of Adventuring kept them together. After he revealed he knew the truth about her they split up.

    Jana Cleaver

Jana Cleaver

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

Race: Orc
Class: Fighter

Katja's very distant mother.

  • Offing the Offspring: Inverted. Katja kills her during the airship encounter.
  • Parental Neglect: Has literally never met Katja, and her first words to her when encountering each other on the opposite sides of combat are "I'm at work."
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Only appears for one encounter and only says one line during said encounter, but plays a major role in why Katja acts the way she does and is part of a bigger conspiracy going on as well. She also appears later as part of an illusion, but it's not really her.

    Cinnamon

Cinnamon

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cinnamonhorse.png

  • Cool Horse: Her entire schtick.
  • Honorary True Companion: Is considered to be the "8th" Maiden of the team.
  • Sapient Steed: She can converse like every other humanoid.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Cinnamon is an elegant, female horse, but the voice Brennan uses for her is deep and masculine. Even if it's still somewhat elegant.

    Hector and Athena Jones

Hector and Athena Jones

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

Race: Human

Antiope's parents and retired military veterans.

  • Heroic Lineage: The entire Jones family has a history of military service that dates back generations.
  • Silver Fox: Both of them qualify, but Hector plays it up by his constant exercising. The rest of the players lean into this as well.
  • The Strategist: True to her name, this is what Athena's later career consisted of. She even exhibits a bit of this demeanor with her own family.

    Corsica Jones

Corsica Jones

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

Race: Human
Class: Fighter

Antiope's older sister and the Fighting teacher at Aguefort.

  • Always Someone Better: In the sense that she seems more put together than Antiope, even if she never brings it up.

  • Stage Mom: Was this in Sam's youth and has not lost the mentality since.

Race: Halflings

Penny's supportive yet perpetually busy parents.

Lucia Wallace

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

Race: Dwarf

Ostentatia's rambunctious mother.

  • Joisey: Pretty much the typical Jersey girl all grown up.

    Carmine Wallace

Race: Earth Genasi
Class: Wizard/Sorcerer

The superintendent of Aguefort Academy who's been missing for twelve years.

  • Chrome Champion: A metallic variant of earth genasi, specifically copper.
  • Mundane Utility: It's implied that doing simple tasks as the superintendent like setting up the Seven's GED drains a lot of her magic for some reason.
  • Reality Warper: Actively studies the practice of shaping reality by understanding the core of existence itself. During a battle, she unravels someone out of existence simply by talking.

    Charity Blythe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/prestont7.png
Race Elf
Class Wizard

Charity's attractive assistant.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: More like Bitch in Clown's Clothing. Preston seems like just a ditsy and hot secretary, but he's a powerful wizard who dresses up as a creepy jester and is a huge threat in the second encounter of the series. He's also an accomplice to his boss's schemes to seize the Eidolons for power.
  • Love Interest: Played with. When Antiope firsts meets him, the scene plays out like Preston could be a potential one for her. It doesn't work out on account of being
  • Magical Clown: A jester to be exact, a creepy and weird one too.
