The list of investigators for the Travel Channel series, Destination Fear

    open/close all folders

    Dakota Laden
The leader of the Destination Fear crew, and the one that usually is the only one where they are going.

  • Catchphrase: "I have an idea"
  • Didn't See That Coming: Happens occasionally.
    • At the Sheboygan County Asylum, he draws a wing of the building that during the walkthrough, did not have any activity, only for during the sleeping arrangement, he gets surprised by some poltergeist activity culminating in his camera getting broken by an entity.
    • Openly admits during the Ohio State Reformatory episode that he was considering picking the location, but felt like he and the team were not prepared for it, only for Tanner to pick it on his choice.
  • The Dog Bites Back: In one instance where Chelsea rigs the name drawing reason, after he was informed about the rigged drawing, he sends her into the location alone.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Is afraid of snakes. When Chelsea put up an activity for the others of having them put their hands in a box without knowing what was inside, Dakota was the lucky one of having snakes inside his box, being assured that there wasn't A snake in it - there were five.
    • At another stop, the others brought him takeout from a local restaurant, which he actually seemed to enjoy - and then his face DROPS when he learns he's eating rattlesnake bites.

    Chelsea Laden
Second in command of the Destination Fear crew. One of the self declared professional scaredy-cats in the crew.

  • A Day in the Limelight: So far, the Yorktown Memorial Hospital, Joliet Prison, and the Greene County Almshouse were her choices for locations, and as such, she leads during those investigations.
  • The Intern: Outside of filming, Chelsea is training and studying to be an optometrist, which Dakota points out sometimes when it comes to hospitals/asylums that they are investigating.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: She rigged one of the name drawings due to feeling like it was rigged to always send her in. Dakota finds out after he goes into the location alone and promptly sends her in after he was informed.
  • Slasher Smile: Subtly sports some when its time for her location, which unnerves the group.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Appears to show this at locations where there have been noted where spirit activity is more active in the presence of women, which is worse if Chelsea happens to draw the location where women are likely to get more attention from the spirits. Firmly demonstrates this at the Ohio State Reformatory when Dakota has her walk through Solitary alone, while requesting the spirits make contact, making her angry with Dakota due to the stories of spirits groping women in Solitary.

    Tanner Wiseman
Third in command of the Destination Fear crew. The other self declared professional scaredy-cat in the crew.

  • Absurd Phobia: Pointed out by Dakota before they investigate Rolling Hills Asylum that Tanner's biggest fear is running into something or someone bigger than him, which is why he chose the location, so Tanner could confront it by making contact with the spirit of Roy.
  • A Day in the Limelight: So far, the Montana State Prison, Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, and Ohio State Reformatory were his choices for locations, and as such, he leads during those investigations.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Out of all the crew members, he is this, due to his giggly and excitable nature. This is acknowledged by both Dakota and Chelsea in the first episode before they investigate Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary.
  • Evil Laugh: Unleashes a bunch at the Ohio State Reformatory, especially when he reveals his "plan" for the sleeping arrangements. Unfortunately for him, his main plan of Dakota being one of the victims of this "plan" fails (namely, being handcuffed to a cell in either the Solitary cells, which Chelsea got, and Cell Block D, which Alex got)
  • Gory Discretion Shot: Averted, at the Waverly Hills Sanatorium, a spirit caused Tanner to have a bad bloody nose near the room where a nurse committed suicide.

    Alex Schroeder
Cameraman/Explorer for the Destination Fear Crew.

  • A Day in the Limelight: So far, The Old Idaho Prison and the Odd Fellows Home were his choice for the location, and as such, he leads during that investigation.
  • The Dog Bites Back: At the Old Idaho Prison, he twists the "rules" Dakota made for the investigations to his benefit, since by technicality, Dakota didn't make a rule that the leader of the investigation couldn't insist on where to send people to sleep for the night, not to mention locking Dakota in a solitary confinement cell in the same episode.
  • Exact Words: When asked by Dakota about a hint for their location, Alex responds by saying its a secret. The team makes the connection when it was revealed to be the Odd Fellows Home, which was a "secret" society.
  • Slasher Smile: Subtly sports some of these at the Old Idaho Prison, which helps since he picked it to get back at Dakota, Chelsea, and Tanner for some of the locations that have affected him.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: While investigating at the Hill View Manor, something was affecting him to the point of vomiting in the location.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Was on the receiving end of this at the Odd Fellows Home, due to a trespasser being discovered on the property, while still insisting on going through with sleeping alone, albeit, without flashlights, and the trespasser being unaccounted for at the time.
