     Zetsue Korekono, SHSL Despair 
  • Affectionate Nickname: In the prologue, Hiroto calls him 'Kono' and it ends up sticking.
  • Amateur Sleuth: As the protagonist of a mystery killing game, Korekono might as well be a detective.
  • Bishōnen: He's tied for prettiest boy with Hiroto.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: To Etsuko, who was bright, bubbly, and passionate about her talent. Kono is pessimistic and hates his talent.
  • Despair Event Horizon: He gets an early one when Saburo explains the first motive to him.
  • Guyliner: Take a look at his lashes and then tell me that's normal.*Gender-Equal Ensemble
  • Idiot Hair: In line with the Danganronpa Protagonist trend.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: And, boy, does he hate it. He's got long lashes and even a sort of feminine figure. Not to mention his name, Zetsue, is typically a girl's name.
  • Plot Armor: The protagonist lives on!
  • Recurring Element: An ahoge'd protagonist. His hair is also a similar color to Shuuichi Saihara's.
  • Technicolor Eyes: Bright pink to further his girlishness.
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: His hair is a very dark blue, almost mistaken for black.

     Chikaze Choko, SHSL Prosecutor 

     Natsuki Naito, SHSL Magical Girl 
  • Action Girl: She's a magical girl and not afraid to show it.
  • Alliterative Name: Natsuki Naito
  • Boyish Short Hair: Her short red hair alludes to her status as an Action Girl.
  • Magical Girl: Literally her talent.
  • Magic Wand: She carries a wand with her at all times. She can produce light and heat from it, but whether it's actually magical... Well, who knows?
  • Meaningful Name: Natsuki (夏希) is spelled with the kanji meaning 'Rare Summer'. Naito (内藤) is a play on Naito [ナイト] which is the katakana form of 'Night' or 'Knight'. When put together, this makes 'Rare Summer Knight' alluding to her self proclaimed title of 'Summer Knight'.
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: She has that Minidress of Power, but with some bright red tights underneath.
  • Spell My Name with an "S": Naito (内藤) can either be spelled Naito, Naitō, or Naitou.

     Oniouinu Itazura, SHSL Youkai 

     Minori Ihara, SHSL Accessory 
  • Apologizes a Lot: It seems whenever she does something she thinks is even the slightest annoying, she'll immediately apologize.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: She comes across as a sheltered girl who knows nothing of the horrors of the world. And how could you think otherwise, looking into those clear blue eyes?
  • Shrinking Violet: She's timid and introverted and apologizes all too often.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: What she says about her talent. As the SHSL Accessory, she is basically an accomplice to murder, though she claims that it's never on purpose.

     Mitsue Yumi, SHSL Archer 
  • Archer Archetype: He's solitary, cold, and sees himself as different from everyone else. Oh, and Archer is his talent.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He demonstrates this plenty of times, to people's annoyance.
  • Expy: Mitsue is an expy of Hugh O'Conner from Ace Attorney. Similar personality, appearance, and both are archers.
  • I'm Not Here to Make Friends: Oh no, in fact, he insults people as soon as the 'game' starts and makes big threats.
  • Insufferable Genius: Oh boy... He's smart and he's not afraid to boast about it.
  • Jerkass: He loves to rub his superiority in your face.
  • Meaningful Name: Yumi in terms of romaji is a reading for 弓 which means 'Bow'. The Yumi in his name, however, is spelled with different kanji: 由美 to be exact.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: As previously mentioned, Mitsue is actually intelligent and boasts rectangular glasses to prove it.
  • The Stoic: Very. He's one of the few people who can remain totally calm in the situation.
  • Stoic Spectacles: Calm and collected, even when told to murder.
  • This Is a Competition: He takes the killing game more seriously than anyone else, even boasting that he could easily kill Korekono, Kokoko, and Kiyoshi with one arrow and not get caught.

     Irene Xeleisha, SHSL Au Pair 
  • Fun with Foreign Languages: Irene will be speaking in a different language nearly every time she opens her mouth.
  • Meido: She's got that look to her and she describes herself as 'Almost like a foreign exchange maid cross babysitter.'
  • Non-Specifically Foreign: Who knows where she's from? We just know she's an Au Pair with a clearly foreign name.
  • Once Upon a Time: She starts out her bit of exposition, which is a very brief recap of [[Video Game/Danganronpa Danganronpa]], only, she says it in Japanese.
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: In fact, almost her entire color scheme is blue. However her hair can be seen as silver. She shares blue hair with Korekono, Hiroto, and Kiyoshi. In fact, her hair color is nearly the same as Kiyoshi's minus the streaks.

     Hiroto Inoue, SHSL Lyricist 

     Saburo Seiseki, SHSL Cryptographer 
  • Alliterative Name: Saburo Seiseki
  • The Big Guy: Tallest in the cast, he fills the bara role.
  • Expy: Can be seen as this to Isami Aoshima from Kingdom Killing Life. Both are tall, tan, quiet/stoic, dark haired boys that wear scarves and have mismatched eyes. In Isami's case, him being half blind. Saburo's is his heterochromia.
  • Heterochromia: He has one red eye and one blue eye.
  • Meaningful Name: His last name, Seiseki (青赤) is written with the kanji for Blue and Red which is basically his color scheme.
  • The Quiet One: He doesn't speak much and keeps everything concise.
  • Recurring Element: He fills the role of the 'Bara', the big dude. In past, canon games, this position has been filled by Sakura Oogami, Nekomaru Nidai, and Gonta Gokuhara. In Kingdom Killing Life, Isami took this role.
  • Speech Impediment: He has a lisp.
  • The Stoic: Along with Mitsue and Chikaze, they make up the most stoic in the cast.

     Kuro Aramaki, SHSL Consultant 
  • The Everyman: The only trait that really sticks out is... that he's boring.
  • The Generic Guy: Honestly, you could stick him in an NPC crowd in an RPG.
  • Nice Guy: He may be a little pessimistic, but he is good at offering support.
  • Only Sane Man: Except maybe Korekono.
    • Chikaze is a vampire obsessed girl.
    • Natsuki is an eccentric magical girl.
    • Zura is a crazy kitsune boy with too much affection.
    • Minori is a shrinking violet with a gnarly past.
    • Mitsue is a complete jerkass with a superiority complex.
    • Irene wields an arsenal of languages to troll people.
    • Hiroto is a super defensive, way too optimistic girly guy.
    • Saburo looks like he just stepped out of Naruto and is the definition of the stoic.
    • Eriko is... What even is she?
    • Shichi is a hopeless flirt and a creep.
    • Kokoko is a panicky girl with identity crises.
    • Sho thinks he is the literal reincarnation of Hermes.
    • Kiyoshi acts like a classic tsundere and totally isn't hiding anything.
    • Fuyuko is always ready to tear someone apart.
    • Tsubaki is a tease who is waaay to into forensics.
    • Wakana is almost too devoted to religion.
    • Yui is a cute mute that seems to know more than she lets on.
    • And Taiki is a minor jerkass who won't refer to people by name and seems to always be ill.
  • Ridiculously Average Guy: Pretty much his theme.

     Eriko Hirota, SHSL Handmaid 
  • Face Framed in Shadow: Thanks to her hood, half of her face is always covered in shadow.
  • The Faceless: She wears a mask that covers her entire face except one spot exposing her left eye.
  • In the Hood: She wears a big black cloak with a hood, covering her face in shadows.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Everything she says or does is with careful consideration to her "master" and she has also implied that perhaps she only got on the Honor Roll because her "master" told her to.
  • Shrinking Violet: She seems unsure of everything since she's not sure what she's allowed to share.

     Shichi Shurochi, SHSL Undertaker 
  • Alliterative Name: Shichi Shurochi
  • Anything That Moves: In fact, this sums up his interactions quite well. Even his introduction is a pick-up line.
  • Chained by Fashion: His right arm has a manacle still on it.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Over his left eye. It has an odd, but... familiar shape.
  • Meaningful Name: The kanji in his name each mean something horrifying. 'Shi' (死) means 'Death'. 'Chi' (血) means 'Blood'. Shu (朱) means 'Bloody Color' and Rō (弄) means 'Fight'.
  • Rugged Scar: He has scars over his left eye, mostly hidden by his eyepatch, and on his left wrist.
  • Spell My Name with an "S": Shurochi (朱弄血) can be spelled Shurochi, Shurouchi, or Shurōchi. The former is used in the story.
  • The Tease: Oh boy, is he ever one.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: He wears a bloody scarf and his talent isn't something to sneeze at.

     Kokoko Kitsuki, SHSL Medium 

     Sho Minamoto, SHSL Courier 
  • A God Am I: He proclaims himself to be Hermes.
  • LARP: Is it that or... Is he just that delusional?
  • The Slacker: He does everything he can to get out of work, notably seen with Natsuki and Kokoko.
  • Sticky Fingers: He has kleptomania. A nod to Hermes being a thief.
