"Let Good Prevail, Then And Always."
National Motto of the Realms of Vertusia, as inscribed in Classical Vertusian upon the walls of the Hall of Virtue, in the Vertusian capital of Coeurpur.

    open/close all folders

    General
  • All-Loving Hero: Despite its overwhelming power, Vertusia's purity and dedication to true goodness drives them to not only fight to save those who are victims of evil, but fight to save even those who perpetrated said evil if they could, believing most if not all could be saved from darkness if given the chance. This is best exemplified by their 'Salvation Crusades', their analogue to their dark counterpart Malregnar's 'Punitive Campaigns', where they took pains to minimize casualties even when fighting against foes set incorrigibly against them, and hold back no expenses in their effort to invoke a Heel–Face Turn by showing them their own folly and reaching into their long-buried conscience, inspiring goodness in all but the most fanatical, brainwashed or corrupt opponents and saving them from themselves.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: Vertusia's collective goal is to spread 'True Good' to the rest of the world, which is based on the premise that all sapient beings are born inherently good, and thus if Vertusia could make the world into a Utopia where people will be given no reason to become evil — even for constructive purposes (as the purposes they serve in the world and sapient nature will no longer be necessary). However, while well-intentioned, their goal is always doomed to fail because the world was practically made with a universal law dictating that Good Needs Evil in a delicate balance in order for all things to thrive. Therefore, by allowing only Good to thrive, Vertusia may actually invite disaster. It's rather telling when no one in Vertusia — up to Virtuecrat Fairytale Herself — has yet to come up with successful alternatives for evil and vice, just as Vicearch Iniquitous and the rest of Malrègnar had yet to find better alternatives for good and virtue.
  • Good Counterpart: Thanks to Virtuecrat Fairytale, Vertusia is this on a national level, a mirror opposite of the Empire of Malrègnar in terms of social, cultural and political disposition, being benign and virtuous where Malrègnar is malignant.
  • The Good Kingdom: Vertusia is this in contrast to The Empire of Malrègnar. It is hinted to be something like The Federation in terms of organization, being a collection of benevolent realms united by Virtuecrat Fairytale.
  • Good Needs Evil: The reason why Vertusia itself came to being. The Grand Primevals, shocked and concerned with Vicearch Iniquitous' rise, allowed Virtuecrat Fairytale to come to life so she — and Vertusia as a whole — will serve as an effective counter for Iniquitous and Malrègnar. It's also the reason why Vertusia hasn't succeeded in spreading 'True Good' yet — without Malrègnar or evil in general to test/temper its benevolence, their actions in creating a purely good world will only invite disaster. Moon Ray Vaughoof sums up the situation thusly:
Moon Ray Vaughoof: So basically ya keep the Heaven-Realms but throw out the Hell-Pits. Not a good idea if yer thinkin' 'bout the long-term.
  • Matriarchy: Like its evil counterpart, the Empire of Malrègnar, Vertusia is ruled by an Alicorn goddess, Virtuecrat Fairytale. However, its population and government is implied to be gender-equal. Fairytale is also aided by her children, the Virtuous Ones, in overseeing the various realms that make up Vertusia.
  • Meaningful Name: Vertusia's name is based on the word "Virtue" in French. Its capital's name of Coeurpur means "Pure Heart", also in French.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Part of why Moon Ray Vaughoof opposes their belief in 'True Good' is because of their endgame in spreading it all over Equus, leaving no room for constructive evil and, by extension, those of his adoptive children and friends who follow it. He even compares the Vertusians to many Autorist and Tribalist groups who seek to dominate the world and promote racial/tribal 'purity' in all of sapientkind — despite feeling they're not a very good example.
  • Punny Name: Vertusia sounds like "virtue".
  • Right Makes Might: While the Vertusians do accept 'Constructive Evil' as part of 'True Good', they still believe that sapientkind will eventually no longer need such things because everyone is born inherently good and innocent. In their minds, 'True Good' will always triumph over 'True Evil'. The only reason why they don't succeed in spreading 'True Good' is because the world actually does not work that way, whether due to inherent sapient nature or the nature of the world being engineered by higher powers to thrive on Good Needs Evil.
  • Rousseau Was Right: The Vertusians' philosophy of 'True Good' preaches that all sapient creatures are born inherently innocent and thus only turn to wickedness due to circumstances and corruption. Though overly simplified, the goal of 'True Good' is to turn the world into a Utopia (or close enough) where people naturally are so virtuous and good that they do not need any reason to become wicked, even for constructive purposes. It's deconstructed as the world does not work that way, and the only thing preventing the Vertusians from suceeding is their repeated failures to come up with ways for sapientkind to function without evil. Moon Ray Vaughoof sums up the Vertusians' end-goal as throwing out all the Hell-Realms in the world while keeping the Heaven-Realms. This is exemplify by their 'Salvation Crusades', where they sought to minimise casualties except when they have to and working hard to remind those they fight against of their own buried conscience and goodness, inspiring them to pull a Heel–Face Turn through purifying their worst evils and showing them compassion and love.
  • Utopia: While its Evil Counterpart is a successfully conquered and maintained evil aligned empire, Vertusia is noted as one of the very few successful, long lasting utopian/near-utopian civilizations. For one, it's established money doesn't exist, as everyone is so selfless and caring for their fellow sapient they don't need it.

Fairytale, the Goddess of Virtue, Virtuecrat of Vertusia

Divine Classification: TBA

Portfolio: Virtue, Purity, Future

Rank: TBA

  • 11th-Hour Superpower: The Virtuous Seven earn a boon from the Grand Primeval at the tail end of the 'Dark Crystal Crisis' during the Final Battle with Queen Dark Crystal. As a result, Symvíosi merges them into Fairytale and Luminiferous ascended them temporarily to godhood, giving them the power needed to defeat her.
  • All Your Powers Combined: As a fusion of the Virtuous Seven, she possesses their combined and magnified powers. She's also an Alicorn, and thus possesses the supercharged powers of every existent Pony tribe at the time.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: She is a Vertusian Alicorn goddess who embodies Virtue, Purity, and Future.
  • The Assimilator: Virtuecrat Fairytale in the present, like Vicearch Iniquitous, had assimilated the existence of countless mortals, gods and others into Her being, adding their power, domains, knowledge and experience to Her own. The main difference between Her and Iniquitous is nearly every assimilation is a consensual Fusion Dance, which in this setting gives Her more power from each fusion compare to each being Iniquitous consumes, thus allow Her to keep up with Her Evil Counterpart despite doing this less often than Her Evil Counterpart.
  • Back to Base Form: When formed to destroy Dark Crystal, she only used the base Armor of Virtue, as she can't use their BKM or BKM Ultra form due to not having one made for her. She didn't need it, and the Armor of Virtue is magnified rather than simply their powers combined.
  • Balance Between Good and Evil: Implied with her present day relationship with Vicearch Iniquitous. Both of them became nigh-unstoppable forces of good and evil respectively, equally matched in terms of strength and wits, and regardless of the effort they put in each others' defeat and destruction all their early clashes ended in a draw. Then the appearance of a THIRD god-sovereign on their level, embodying Neutrality, firmly established the balance between them as she would ensure neither side will ever be able to truly overcome each other. It is implied this is necessary as their respective natures meant that if their power and influence are not held in check in such a way, they have the potential of eventually Taking Over The World and winning the eternal conflict between Good and Evil for their respective side — which in the context of the setting could potentially be detrimental to the well-being of all life and the world itself with the disruption of the balance.
  • Crazy-Prepared: A drabble revealed that the reason Fairytale was not overly-concerned with Iniquitous having apparently breached the vaults of Princess Regina and studied the Wands of Ponyland she safeguarded in person was that, on top of knowing the Vicearch of Malrègnar would not be foolish enough to mess with powers that would magically-damage Equus and leave her open for a fatal weakness as Lavan had, the Virtuecrat had multi-layered plans prepared just in case Iniquitous went for it, guaranteeing that any attempt by Iniquitous to subvert their power for her own ends would likely be foiled. Having realized this, Iniquitous made a sincere compliment of her cleverness.
  • Destroy the Villain's Weapon: One of the highlights of their historical battle against Queen Dark Crystal has Fairytale destroying Dark Crystal's precious book of evil spells with which she and others had caused so much evil and suffering throughout the centuries, infuriating Dark Crystal further than she already was and contributing significantly to Dark Crystal's defeat.
  • The Dreaded: For the forces of Evil, particularly the Diabolical variety, the Goddess of Virtue is a figure of dread to Horrifying the Horror levels, being not only powerful but the embodiment of all things that are anathema to their very existence. The only other being in the Codexverse who could possibly provoke such a similar dread among them is the antediluvian Alicorn god of Ponykind, Emperor Golden Scepter himself, which is saying something.
    • To note, when Virtuecrat Fairytale appeared in Malrègnar to rescue Princess Radiant Rapier from a Fate Worse than Death by Vicearch Iniquitous, literally all the demons and mortals of the Malrègnar's dark legions — who had just mercilessly finished off Radiant Rapier's forces — either bolted or flinched in sheer terror of her presence. Partly justified by the fact that in the Fourth Age, she is considered to be Vicearch Iniquitous' Good Counterpart, having reincarnated partly to counter-balance the force of inequine evil that Iniquitous represents with the power of transequine good that Fairytale embodies. Indeed, even Vicearch Iniquitous, the only one who stood her ground in the Virtuecrat's presence, regarded and welcomed her with noticeable respect.
  • Embodiment of Virtue: She's the Alicorn goddess of Virtue and Purity.
  • Everyone Has Standards: When Count Perpetual Annoyance arrived in Vertusia, Fairytale was prompt to relocate him.
  • Fusion Dance:
    • Fairytale is the Virtuous Seven merged into one by Symvíosi, then temporarily Ascended by Luminiferous as a reward for refusing to give in to Queen Dark Crystal's influence and reviving themselves through sheer force of will.
    • Her Fourth-Age reincarnation, however, is the result of the Vertusian Pantheon sacrificing themselves to reincarnate her back into the mortal planes by merging together to make up her divine constitution and makeup, giving her the combined power, domains, and experience needed to combat great threats.
    • Like her counterpart, she has absorbed a great many other gods, but in her case she only accepts it willingly, and thus it's more of a divine fusion than consumption. This also means while she's absorbed far fewer beings, the fact they're all fusions means the boost remains comparable to Iniquitous's upgraded power.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: When not fighting, plotting or otherwise countering against each other, Virtuecrat Fairytale had been observed meeting with her counterpart Vicearch Iniquitous on more cordial terms, even having tea with her and their respective children.
  • Golden Super Mode: Goes one step even further: while she serves as a massive power up for the Tales/Virtuous Seven, instead of gold her armor is platinum colored.
  • Good Counterpart:
    • To Queen Dark Crystal during the Second Age, serving as the Grand Matron's foil as the embodiment of sapientkind's virtues in contrast to Dark Crystal being an embodiment of sapientkind's sins
    • To Iniquitous in the Fourth Age, having persisted and eventually reincarnated back into the mortal world as her own being, before rising to power to become the benevolent Virtuecrat of Vertusia, becoming the opposite and counterbalance to the malevolent Vicearch of Malrègnar
  • The Good Guys Always Win: Just like Iniquitous managed to decisively win and rule Malrègnar successfully for evil, Fairytale managed to win and successfully rule Vertusia successfully for good and create a nation where good always wins. It's noted this is nearly just as difficult to achieve indefinitely as it was for Iniquitous.
  • Multi-Melee Master: As a fusion of the Tales Seven, she has access to all of the Weapons of Virtue, giving her seven different melee weapons, and as she has the experience of her components, is proficient in their use.
  • Nice Guy: As a nigh-unstoppable incarnation of transequine purity and virtue, Fairytale is fundamentally compassionate and caring for others and possess literally no malice and harmful desires within her. One of the first things she did upon reincarnating in the 'Fourth Age' is to comfort the mourning Tetratron, the last Archangel of the Humble King who with his pantheon sacrificed their knowledge, experience, domains, power and very existence to bring her back and save their lands, after the ritual is complete and before she heads out to defeat the 'Walpurgisnacht' which is ravaging their lands.
  • Not Afraid of You Anymore: While the Tales Seven were willing to stand up to Dark Crystal, they're still terrified of her. When they form Fairytale, however, they've stopped fearing her, being resolute in stopping her. As a result, Fairytale is pretty much the embodiment of them saying this trope.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Being able to rival Vicearch Iniquitous herself in power, Virtuecrat Fairytale is naturally this.
    • In the first of the three 'Great Trials' where Vertusia and its rulers and people meets their match in Malregnar and its rulers and people, the days-long battle between Virtuecrat Fairytale and Viceach Iniquitous had them unleashing so much of their accumulated power against one another that the area where their duel occurred was not only devastated, but irrevocably altered. The 'Field of Virtue and Vice' is a wasteland where reality seems to be perpetually on the verge of outright unravelling altogether as the leftover energies of the two god-sovereigns' clash continue to war against one another even to this day, twisting the landscape whichever and whenever good or evil gains the upper hoof over the other momentarily and becoming toxic to all but the strongest creature and entities aligned or embodying the opposite alignment.
  • Reincarnation: Having somehow persisted as her own individuality following the passing of the Tales/Virtuous Seven, Fairytale eventually reincarnated in the Fourth Age, becoming the Good Counterpart and counterbalance to the infamous Vicearch Iniquitous of the Malrègnar Empire. This is later revealed to be the result of the members of the Vertusian Pantheon sacrificing themselves to reincarnate her back into the mortal planes as a fully divine goddess during a great time of need. As a result, she has their combined power, domains, and knowledge needed to combat many threats that her many predecessors could not by themselves.
  • Spell Book: Just as Iniquitous wrote the Seven Keys of Iniquitous, so did Fairytale pen the Seven Books of Fairytale, repositories of her accumulated knowledge on Holy Magic.
  • Unstoppable Force Meets Immovable Object: Ran into this when she clashed with Vicearch Iniquitous. The two were equally unstoppable forces of evil and good respectively, and once they clashed, their direct and indirect conflicts/contests almost always inevitably ends in a draw, each admitting neither could defeat the other. The emergence of a THIRD god-sovereign on their level after their third 'Great Trial' embodying NEUTRALITY all but ensures the stalemate between them would never be broken, namely by threatening to intervene on either side to prevent neither side from fully overcoming the other.
  • The Worf Effect: Apparently, like her evil and neutral counterparts, she once fought Strife, Adversus' firstborn daughter with her scions and barely won by the skin of their teeth...while Strife was only using a mere faction of her full power to make it fair.

    Tetratron
A surviving Archangel from the deceased Old Vertusian Pantheon, and is a member of Virtuecrat Fairytale's inner circle who works under her.
  • Celestial Paragons and Archangels: Tetraton is an archangel, the last remaining one of Humilité, the Humble King and first and most senior one to his new divine liege Virtuecrat Fairytale after the Old Vertusian Pantheon's sacrifice.
  • Foil: To Vicearch Iniquitous' brother, serving a similar role as an Honest Advisor and equerry to Virtuecrat Fairytale, and both loyal to their sovereigns to a fault. But here Tetratron is a noble Archangel instead of a half-Diabolic wraith.
  • Last of His Kind: The last of the old angelic orders which served the Old Vertusian Pantheon, but the first of those who serve Virtuecrat Fairytale who succeeded them.
  • Meaningful Name: Tetra- is an old word meaning 'Four' and -tron is suggested to mean 'The King of -', derived from the name Metatron, one of the angels of God in the Abrahamic religious and mystic traditions. How the name Tetratron corresponds with his character and traits remains to be seen.
  • Undying Loyalty: To his liege Humilité, the Humble King, being his most faithful and loyal celestial servant, and in turn whom the king treated like his own son. He was devastated that he cannot join his liege, pantheon and fellow angels in their ultimate sacrifice to bring Fairytale back, and even to this day mourn his loss, but nevertheless faithfully and loyally follow his liege's final order to serve and support Virtuecrat Fairytale all he can.

Virtuous Ones

    General
  • The Assimilator: All of them are like their mother the Virtuecrat 'Devourers', absorbing countless mortals, celestials, divines and other beings into themselves and taking their power, knowledge and skills as well as feeding on their virtues and contentment as they enjoy eternal bliss as part of them. Unlike their counterparts the Princelings of Malrègnar all of those they merged with does so consensually, and as a result despite absorbing far less they generally acquire far more per merging than their Princeling would had, allowing them to maintain parity with their counterparts.
  • Deity of Human Origin: Implied; like the Princelings of Malrègnar, it's likely the Virtuous Ones are either Ascendant demi-deities or full-fledged deities.
  • Divine Parentage: Like the Princelings of Malrègnar, the Virtuous Ones are children of Virtuecrat Fairytale, either by blood or adoption.
  • Embodiment of Virtue: In contrast to the Princelings of Malrègnar, the Virtuous Ones each embody one of the Seven Heavenly Virtues.
  • Fusion Dance: Like their mother, they all have had many mortals and gods willingly merge with them to increase their power, keeping them on par with their Evil Counterparts.
  • Floral Theme Naming: All of them thus far have names including a flower or plant that symbolizes their virtue.
  • Good Counterpart: In contrast to the Princelings of Malrègnar, the Virtuous Ones each embody one of the Seven Heavenly Virtues, and thus are able to counter and stalemate the Princelings through their own natures.
  • Good Needs Evil: While on opposite moral alignments, due to both having balanced versions of what they personify, the Virtuous Ones and Princelings of Vice tend to have similar worldviews, both understanding their virtue or vice without balance would be self-destructive.

Modest Bluebell, the Princess of Humility

Classification: [TBA]

Portfolio: Humility, [WIP]

Rank: Divine ([???])

First mentioned in a drabble, Modest Bluebell, the Princess of Humility is the eldest of the Virtuous Ones, the seven eldest (but by no means only) scions of the Virtuecrat Fairytail and the Good Counterpart of Excelsius, the Prince of Pride in Malrègnar.
  • The Ace: Implied, but she manages to stalemate Prince Excelsius of Malrègnar — who is also implied to be this among the Princelings of Vice — during their parents' battles and confrontation with one another, which earns Excelsius' sincere respect.
  • Embodiment of Virtue: She is a divine incarnation of Humility, making her a counter to Excelsius who is a divine incarnation of Pride.
  • Friendly Enemy: Seeing each other as a Worthy Opponent and actually able to understand each other, both Princess Modest Bluebell and Prince Excelsius notably have the most civil relationship with each other out of their respective families.
  • Humble Hero: A nuanced example. Modest Bluebell does not have anything against taking pride in what one does. What she believes in is that people should let their actions speak louder than words and do what should be done rather than brag about it in hopes of acknowledgement, and she does not mind if no one would know about it.
  • Pretty Princess Powerhouse: Implied. Her title is "the Princess of Humility", and it's likely she's very beautiful. That being said, she managed to counter and stalemate her Evil Counterpart, Prince Excelsius, earning the latter's genuine respect.
  • Worthy Opponent: It's implied she considers Excelsius, the Prince of Pride to be this (the feelings of which are mutual) as they are the only ones who can stalemate each other, and thanks to their own personal views and mindsets understand each other the best out of their siblings.

Bountiful Tulip, the Princess of Charity

Classification: [TBA]

Portfolio: Charity, [WIP]

Rank: Divine ([???])

First mentioned here and here.

Pure Lily, the Princex of Chasity

Classification: [TBA]

Portfolio: Charity, [WIP]

Rank: Divine ([???])

First mentioned in a drabble.

Compassionate Lotus, the Prince of Kindness

Classification: [TBA]

Portfolio: Kindness, [WIP]

Rank: Divine ([???])

First mentioned in a drabble, Compassionate Lotus is one of the seven Eldest of Virtuecrat Fairytale's scions, the Good Counterpart (and later husband of) Invidious, the Princess of Vice.

Balanced Azalea, the Prince of Temperance

Classification: [TBA]

Portfolio: Temperance, [WIP]

Rank: Divine ([???])

First mentioned in a drabble.

Enduring Astilbe, the Prince of Patience

Classification: [TBA]

Portfolio: Patience, [WIP]

Rank: Divine ([???])

First mentioned in a drabble.

Persistent Orchid, the Princess of Diligence

Classification: [TBA]

Portfolio: Diligence, [WIP]

Rank: Divine ([???])

First mentioned in a drabble.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Princess Persistent Orchid is famous for being so observant of her surroundings and opponents her vision borders on prescience, making her a formidable enemy on the battlefield.
  • Frontline General: In contrast to her Evil Counterpart Prince Languorous, who prefers a background role indirectly commanding/supporting his forces and only fights directly when he has to, Princess Persistent Orchid prefers to be at the front and in the thick of the action, be it in leading the Realms of Vertusia or fighting enemies.
  • Good Counterpart: To Languorous, the Prince of Sloth, her counterpart in Malregnar, serving similar roles in their mothers' realms but applies them differently from Languorous due to differences in nature and temperaments.
  • Meaningful Name: Orchids are known to be quite resilient in the wild, making it fitting name for a powerful Vertusian goddess of Diligence.
  • Super-Toughness: Possesses a nigh-inexhaustible durability as a result of her domain of diligence.

    Despairing Cypress

Classification: [TBA]

Portfolio: Despair, [WIP]

Rank: Divine ([???])

First mentioned in a drabble, Despairing Cypress in the adopted daughter of Virtuecrat Fairytale and the counterpart of Propitious, the Princeling of Hope, having been exchanged with him by her true birth mother Vicearch Iniquitous as part of an agreement between the Empire of Malregnar and the Realms of Vertusia. Despite being the embodiment of a deadly sin in a utopian society founded on virtue and goodness, like her counterpart, she's found her place among her adopted land and family while still being true to what she is.

  • Above Good and Evil: Played With: unlike her birth and adopted mother, she does not believe in the existence of inherit good or evil, and that they don't true have meaning in and of themselves. She believes, instead, that it is the choices of sapient beings that give them meaning, not the other way around. So she essentially believes everyone is above good and evil in the sense they're the ones that give those concepts meaning to begin with. She chooses to be an Anti-Hero.
  • The Anti-Nihilist: She sees the universe as an apathetic, uncaring (but also unhating) place...which is exactly why she holds the choices of sapientkind and how they treat one another as being essential, as they are the only things which has and gives meaning to a meaningless existence. Notably, unlike her birth and adopted parents, she doesn't believe inherent good or evil even exist, as only the choices of sapient beings truly give them any meaning at all.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Despite embodying the Eighth Deadly Sin of Despair, she's an Anti-Hero who uses it as a crucible to test the true nature of others and help them become stronger, as well as to punish the Destructive Evil and Destructive Good.

    Passionate Rose
First mentioned in a drabble, Passionate Rose is one of the youngest Virtuous Ones.

Classification: [TBA]

Portfolio: Life, Flowers

Rank: Demigod

Notable Vertusians

    Virtueress Vestitora
  • All-Loving Hero: Implied. She comforted and reassured the desperate and grovelling ambassador of the Pony Tribalist nation of Marecopita when Vertusia declared a 'Salvation Crusade' against the kingdom (for their aggression against them and one of their protectorate) that they want to save their country from itself and its Tribalist evil rather than sanction and destroy it like the Empire of Malregnar did with Rotkrallea.
  • Ambadassador: She's the main representaitve of Vertusia in the Convocation of Creatures and the outside world, making her this by default.
  • Good Counterpart: Of Vicelord Heraut of the Empire of Malregnar.

    Grand Fleetmaster Gracious Steward
  • Captain Ersatz: Of Starfleet Captain/Admiral Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation, possessing similar reputations, skills. and personalities.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: Gracious Stward somberly observed at various points that sometimes, no matter how well one does to prepare and perform, one could still fail utterly for no fault of their own, citing examples such as the Alicorn Civilization's downfall despite their constant success, Equestria and the world constantly getting imperiled no matter how well they prepare themselves against threats and menaces, his liege Virtuecrat Fairytale and Her Arch-Enemy Vicearch Iniquitous' continued stalemate and inability to overcome each other, among other subjects of misfortune.
Gracious Steward: It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness; that is life.
  • Gentleman and a Scholar: Is this in contrast to Grand Fleetmaster Tilgeadh's Wicked Cultured, both sharing an appreciation for high culture and discuss it frequently whenever they meet on diplomatic situations.
  • Good Counterpart: He's Vertusia's counterpart to Grand Fleetmaster Tilgeadh, being as intelligent and capable of a general as he is. Both consider the other their Worthy Opponent.
  • Smart People Play Chess: To highlight the fact he is a Good Counterpart to match the military genius of his Malrègnarian opposite, he and Tilgeadh often played chess whenever they meet in a diplomatic context.
  • Talking the Monster to Death: Because of his competence and disposition towards diplomacy, Gracious Steward developed a reputation for being able to diffuse tensions and resolving conflicts peacefully and without a shot fired. He defeated just as many enemies by persuading them to give up, change their minds or even join his and Vertusia's side as he did via tactical application of firepower.
    • An Autorist monarch attempted to lead an attack into Vertusia at some unspecified point in time and was confronted by the Grand Fleetmaster and his fleet just as the Autorist kingdom's forces were poised to invade at the border. Gracious Steward quickly attempted to turn him back with a combined Patrick Stewart Speech and Kirk Summation noting the wrongness of their beliefs in superiority, that true power comes from uniting in fairness and respect under a common cause, and that even Vertusia's Evil Counterpart / Arch-Enemy Malregnar along with their dreaded Vicearch understands this and that they cannot hope to overcome a world united against them even with all their ambition and power. When that failed to convince the Autorist king, he wisely appealed to Autorist beliefs in strength and pointed out that Malregnar and their sovereign had clashed with Vertusia and the Virtuecrat three times in the past and both had failed to overcome one another, being each others' equal, asking then what chance do the Autorist king think they have against a nation and a god-sovereign who could stop an empire and rival which had very recently and rather casually ANNIHILATED a Griffon Autorist kingdom for transgressions against Malregnar in a punitive expedition in a single week. That convinced the Autorist king to back off, and might had even shaken him and his views on things.
  • Technical Pacifist: Is an exemplary soldier and a highly-adaptable commander, but is diplomatic and compassionate, and would seek forceful confrontation only when peaceful solutions and appealing to the better nature of his opponents failed. When he needs to fight, however, he is more than able to defeat his foes quite thoroughly.
  • Worthy Opponent: Is widely considered to be this to the brilliant Malrègnarian military genius Grand Fleetmaster Tilgeadh, and the feelings are mutual.

    Tempered Blade
"If you define yourself by the power to take life, the desire to dominate, to possess... then you have nothing."

Holy General Tempered Blade (first introduced here) is one of Vertusia's greatest soldiers and generals, as well as Enduring Astilbe's personal Divine Champion and High Priest.

Old Vertusian Pantheon

    General
  • Big Good: In contrast to the inept and questionably noble Jerkass Gods that Iniquitous of Malrègnar would punish by defeating and devouring them, they were decidedly less flawed and more heroic. They willingly sacrifice themselves to protect their mortal worshippers and their domains from a Fusion Dance Eldritch Abomination (a failed attempt by witches to recreate Queen Dark Crystal) that even they could not defeat and threatens to destroy their lands and terrorize the world.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In the backstory to Virtuecrat Fairytale's rise, the entire pantheon's gods and angels collectively abandoned their individuality to form a divine vessel whereupon Fairytale, then a disembodied and dormant 'Spirit of Virtue' who persisted in the weave of Equus, could be reincarnated into the world once more, armed with their combined power, knowledge and domains while at it. They do this to combat a Fusion Dance Eldritch Abomination created by witches attempting to recreate the infamous Queen Dark Crystal that went amok and threatens to destroy their lands and cause havoc across the world.
  • Karmic Jackpot: Unlike their counterparts in the Malrègnarian lands, they never let their own flaws overtake them to the point of interfering with their duties, and they all sacrificed themselves to protect the lands of Vertusia from a powerful "Walpurgisnacht" entity. This not only allowed them to live on (in a fashion) and continue watching over Vertusia as Fairytale, who was reincarnated back into the world because of them, but their mortal worshipers immortalized their deeds in stories and monuments for years to come.
  • Not Quite Dead: There are hints that hints that their current status is technically this, losing their independent existence fusing together to reincarnate Fairytale but living on as a part of Her. Given the indefinite nature of their present state however they are more or less as good as dead.
  • Posthumous Character: All members of the Vertusian Pantheon, as well as their angelic servants, are long dead, having made a collective Heroic Sacrifice to reincarnate Fairytale's spirit back into the mortal planes, and merging with her to give her their combined power, domains, and experience. However, because of their heroism and benevolence in a great time of need, their mortal worshipers immortalized them through monuments and stories so the memory of their existence will persist long after their deaths.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Officially, hardly any information about them in the Codex exists. This is justified because they all sacrificed themselves to bring Virtuecrat Fairytale back into the world and reincarnate her, presumably long before anyone involved in the Codex Equus project had the chance to record them. This is subverted in-universe however, as their noble sacrifice moved the Vertusians so much that long afterwards their existence and legacy remained memorialized, so that they will never be forgotten.

    Humilité, the Humble King

Divine Classification: TBA

Portfolio: Humility, [WIP]

Rank: TBA

  • Foil: To 'The Prideful King' of the Old Malrègnarian Pantheon, being humble where the Prideful King was proud. Even their ultimate fates were a reflection of each others': Humilité remained well-remembered by Vertusians for his sacrifice to bring back Fairytale, while the Prideful King was stripped of his identity and only remembered as a foolish, incompetent Jerkass God who rightly deserved his defeat and being devoured by Iniquitous.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: On par with his humility, he showed zero hesitation in summoning Fairytale back into the world even if it would cost him everything he is and has. He doesn't care if he would cease to exist as an independent being, being forgotten by everyone afterwards or whatever other outcome that may follow — if it meant that his people and their lands could be saved from the 'Walpurgisnacht' entity ravaging them, then it's worth it.
Humilité, the Humble King: Spirit of Virtue sleeping in the aether above, we give to you our power and being so that you may arise and save our people. We care not for our own fate, so long as they may live.
  • Humble Hero: In life, he was one. Unlike his divine Malrègnarian counterpart, who let his own pride overtake him to the point where it led his pantheon and territory to ruin, Humilité was humble enough to acknowledge his pantheon's flaws and took steps to prevent their inner vices from raging out of control. When a powerful "Walpurgisnacht" entity rampaged through Vertusia, he led his pantheon and angels in stopping it by sacrificing themselves to reincarnate Fairytale back into the world, supplying her with power, knowledge, experience, and the necessary domains to combat the "Walpurgisnacht" entity. One of the Codex writers commented that Humilité reminded her of Blue Suede Heartstrings, the Alicorn god of Humility and another Humble Hero.
  • Top God: A "King of the Gods" example. In life, he was the leader of the Old Vertusian Pantheon, but unlike his Old Malrègnarian counterpart, "The Prideful King", he was aware of his flaws and (presumably) worked hard on tempering his own flaws and the flaws of his peers to controllable levels. This allowed the lands of Old Vertusia to prosper up until wicked covens tried recreating Queen Dark Crystal, the result which broke free of its creators' control and ran amok, forcing Humilité and the Old Vertusian Pantheon to perform a Heroic Sacrifice and bring back Fairytale.
