Thieves Guilds

    open/close all folders

    General
  • Chaotic Neutral: In-Universe, this is the group's collective alignment. Thus they don't fit well into the hero or villain category. Notably, even the Neutral Sovereign between Fairytale and Iniquitous is backing them because of their neutral alignment.
  • Impossible Thief: Each member of the Guild is capable of pulling off some acts of thievery that leave investigators utterly dumbfounded as to how it was pulled off.
  • No Challenge Equals No Satisfaction: Their collective belief: if anything is too easy to steal, then it's not worth their time stealing.
  • Noble Demon: All members of the Guild have standards, morals, and lines they will not cross on top of having a sense of honor, as well as keep worse thieves than themselves in line.
  • Thieves' Guild: The premier one of Equus, being a group that ensures both that noble thieves such as themselves can work together, or compete, and keeping Destructive Evil criminals in check.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: A strict rule of the Guild all members abide by: they will not kill anyone during the course of a heist out of moral standards.

Leaders

    Phantom Wolf, the Ultimate Thief

Classification: Ascendant/Ethereal

Portfolio: Thieves, Disguise, Intelligence

Rank: Divine (Tier IV/Greater)

Phantom Wolf (his entry here) is a god of Thieves, Disguise, and Intelligence, and is a legendary phantom thief who is considered to be the 'codifier' of noble thieves, as well as one of the greatest thieves to have ever lived.
  • Arch-Enemy: Has one in Inspector/Warden/Constable/Sheriff/Pursuer/Etc. Ganimane, a Griffon law enforcer who had been the only one who came closest in ever catching him and is relentless in doing so, to the point of ascending to godhood himself so he could continue to do so. Their respective skills in hunting and evading each other had led to them both developing a grudging respect for one another to the point of becoming each others' Friendly Enemy.
  • Beyond the Impossible: He somehow managed to steal a country. He apparently still rules it in a pocket dimension.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has his moments. A Drabble revealed he once aborted a heist when he realised the items he was planning to steal are fake, leaving behind a second letter where he proclaims he would only return to steal them when they are genuine articles, much to the insulted fury of the owner himself.
  • Deity of Human Origin: Was once mortal, but had since ascended to become a god of thieves and other domains, having it was rumoured stolen the divinity from a villainous god unworthy of it.
  • Expy: Of none other than Arsène Lupin.
  • Freudian Excuse: While his origins in-universe is shrouded in mystery, an added scene-insert revealed he was once a young child of a chambermaid who stole riches from a pair of cruel and spiteful nobles who employed her mother in order to get money to treat her illness. Unfortunately, despite successfully hiding his crime, the count and countess presumed his mother did it and not only fired her, but also used their influence to prevent any physician or pharmacy from treating her illness even if he got the money for it, leading to her death. Guilt-ridden but also angry at the nobles' cruelty, this sets him off to become a Phantom Thief who would steal from the rich and powerful to take them down a peg, but act as a Gentleman Thief with a code of honour who would help those needing it, take down people far worse than he is, and never let innocents get caught in the crossfire of his heists.
  • Impossible Theft: Is a master of these like his inspiration. To note, he had pulled off seemingly impossible heists like stealing an entire country which he was said to still govern to this day. He may had also ascended by stealing the godhood off another villainous god unworthy of it. The only one who comes close to his record which had been mentioned in the Codexverse so far is Miscreant Melody, who managed to steal a Heresy.
  • Monumental Theft: Exaggerated Trope, in that he once managed to steal an entire country.
  • Shrouded in Myth: His gallant conduct and impossible heists are legendary, as are his exact backstory and true nature. No one even knows exactly what he looks like.

    King Asbolus Lyonesse
"I understand you planned to stab me in the back. Unfortunately for you, I just stole your dagger when you weren't looking."

King Asbolus Lyonesse (his entry here) is a Changeling King who chose to become a Phantom Thief as his modus operandi, and is one of the less monstrous of his siblings among the Summer Court.

  • Really Gets Around: The opposite sex is one of his greatest weaknesses.
  • Worthy Opponent: Regards Celestia as one, for being one of the few to foil his thefts on multiple occasions.

    Miscreant Melody the Second

Character: Anti-Villainous

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Type: Phantom Thief, Musical Pony, Armored Villain, Noble Villain

Faction: Himself/Bogolenya Deer Pantheon

"And thus ends another performance by Miscreant Melody! I do hope you enjoyed it! Farewell!"

The second Miscreant Melody (his entry here) is a noble phantom thief who hails from the island nation of Mousikós, stealing and testing both local and foreign heroes.
  • Fair-Play Villain: He always gives heroes a fair chance of stopping him and only does capers that are a challenge. If his suit does function at full capacity, he may also be holding back most of its power because, due to it having relic enchantments from the height of the Third Age, it wouldn't be fair.
  • Legacy Character: The first Miscreant Melody lived in the Third Age, this one is his successor in the Fourth.
  • Noble Demon: He's follows a 'Third Age villain morality' and thus is generally a decent guy who refuses to harm others or cause unnecessary damage.
  • Wacky Racing: Beyond impossible thefts, Miscreant Melody II is an avid racer who had participated in many motorsport races, often crashing it uninvited with his vehicle. It happened so often that it became a habit for many organisers of an Epic Race to save one spot for him in case he does show up.
  • Willfully Weak: His armor is the original Miscreant Melody's, and thus an incredibly powerful magical artifact. If the armor still works to full capacity and he knows how to use it, he's extremely powerful, but holds back the majority of it to play fair. Notably, the Sirens are as dangerous and powerful as they are for having similar relic enchantments.

    Sulfura

Character: Anti-Villainous/Anti-Heroic

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Type: Hybrid, Skunk Dragon, Trickster, Thief

Faction: Herself

Sulfura (her entry here) is a Great Skunk/Copper Dragon hybrid and trickster thief.
  • Acid Attack: As half-Copper Dragon, she has the ability to breathe and manipulate acid. She doesn't like using it on people, and more often uses it to get past barriers and other obstructions.
  • Breath Weapon: As half-Copper Dragon, she possesses the ability to breathe a stream or mist of acid. She figured out a way to alter the chemical composition of hers to also breathe what amounts to skunk spray.
  • Classy Cat-Burglar: Despite being a carriage sized Dragon/Great Skunk hybrid, she's this. She enjoys the finer things, has a sense of honor and morals, and only steals things that she views as worthy of her.
  • Curbstomp Battle: In a canonized drabble, she ended up going up against Pyro III during a heist. She defeated him handedly, leaving him skunked with a piece of Humble Pie.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: While pointing out that Pyro III's ego is why he was so easily beaten by her, she admits that she, and dragons in general, tend to be proud creatures. However, she also points out that Pyro III's ego is over-inflated even by their standards.
  • No Challenge Equals No Satisfaction: Sulfura is disappointed if a heist was too easy, and tends to talk down to opponents who were too easy to beat.
  • No-Sell: As Required Secondary Powers, she's highly resistant to acid so she's not harmed by her own and thus can just shrug it off.
  • The Rival: Apparently takes the Second Age Screwball's place as Patch's.
  • Smelly Skunk: She's half-Great Skunk, and thus can spray a noxious smelling chemical spray from the base of her tail. Due to size, getting sprayed by her is highly unpleasent to say the least. her other half being a Copper Dragon (who have acid as their elemental affinity), she's figured out how to magically alter her acid breath into imitation skunk spray. However, it's less potent than her natural spray.
  • Villain Has a Point: Well, for a definition of 'villain.' After curbstomping Pyro III, she tells him he lost due to his massive ego and if he doesn't do something about it, he'll not fair any better next time they meet. Pyro III's father, Firelord Pyro II, admits she's right and was worried about his son's ego.

Members

    Dasvrij, the Free Badger
"Do your worst! There's no vault I cannot break in, and no prison I cannot escape!"
First introduced in a Drabble, Dasvrij is a Ratel member of the Thieves Guild of Equus from Zebrica who's becoming renowned for his impossible heists and escapes as well as increasing involvement in Zebrica's resistance/liberation movements against the foreign colonialists rampaging through it.

Honourary members

    Gusty the Great
First mentioned in a Drabble, Gusty the Great was a legendary thief/rogue who, against all odds, managed to steal the Enchanting Bell of Grogar, sealed most of his powers inside it and then banish Grogar and Tambelon to the Realm of Shadows for what many hoped would be all eternity. She so impressed modern thieves comprising the Thieves Guild in the modern day that she's made an honourary member.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Downplayed as HOW she did it remains unclarified, but it was established that she had help with a caper crew of ordinary Ponies like herself.
  • Badass Normal: What made Gusty's feat so incredible was because she and her crew were all completely normal ponies who managed to take on Grogar and Tambelon and succeeded.
  • The Caper: Her claim to fame consist of pulling a virtually impossible heist - namely, steal the Enchanting Bell of Grogar and most of his power with it, trapping Grogar and Tambelon in the Realm of Shadows until Mistletoe Dreamer came along while at it.
  • Cowardly Lion: Noted to be 'mousy', but nevertheless managed to steal from and beat Grogar and Tambelon with nothing more than mortal cunning and determination.
  • The Determinator: Gusty is noted to have the determination of a turtle. She did not give up until she succeeded in stealing the Enchanted Bell.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Gusty. Beat. GROGAR. To understand just how incredible the feat is, imagine if Jimmy Olsen beat DARKSEID.
  • Famed In-Story: She is honoured by many thieves by the present day for her legendary caper, being widely and rightly considered one of the greatest thieves to had ever existed.
  • Guile Hero: She is noted to be 'as cunning as a fox', having managed to outsmart Grogar.
  • The Magnificent: 'the Great', and is honour as such by many thieves both good and bad well into the present day.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: Gusty the Great had help with her great heist in the form of a number of fairly ordinary Ponies who happened to possess certain talents and skills needed to help her pull it off. They were not mentioned in most stories about Gusty because after the heist they let Gusty take all the credit to avoid reprisals from Grogar's surviving minions and supporters.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Her caper not only (almost) permenantly ended Grogar and Tambelon's threat for good, it set off a chain of events that even when they returned Grogar was permenantly weakened due to the loss of his Enchanting Bell. Unfortunately it also unintentionally led to the League of Domination Crisis as it gave Cozy Glow, Chrysalis Avalon and Lord Tirek the means to make a comeback and nearly conquer Equestria.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Gusty vanished from history after hiding the Enchanting Bell, presumably to avoid the attention her act would had drawn.
  • Wowing Cthulhu: She impressed Phantom Wolf, the Ultimate Thief, likely the greatest living thief in Known History, with her heist, who was the one to propose that she be made an honourary member of the Thieves Guild.
