The Main Trio

    Clarence Wendle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clarencecnpic1_9918.jpg
Voiced by: Skyler Page (season one), Spencer Rothbell note , Nick Pitera (singing voice, "Jeff Wins"), Tom Kenny (superhero Clarence, "Goldfish Follies")

The titular, happy-go-lucky main character of the series.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Chad tends to call Clarence "Buddy".
  • All-Loving Hero: A more lighthearted version of this trope. He makes friends with everyone, from obvious jerks like Belson to the Odd Friendship he struck up with Old Clarence in "Neighborhood Grill." Goes together with Friend to All Living Things listed below, and exemplified in "Zoo" when he explains to Belson that everything is like a baby dolphin to him.
  • The All-Solving Hammer: In "Money Broom Wizard", where he helps some of his classmates in the arcade by using his "wizard hands". At one point, he even cheats the whack-a-seal game by putting one seal in a headlock and continuously punching it with his fist.
  • Animal Motifs: Pigs. Clarence is very messy, potbellied and has a pig-like nose. He is sometimes compared to a pig, most notably the episode "Hoofin' It" had him convincingly pass himself off as one, simply by wearing a fake ears and a tail and getting covered in grease.
  • Berserk Button: Messing with his recess is a way to bring out a side of him not normally seen.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: In "Lil Buddy", Clarence became an even bigger delinquent than usual all because he missed one recess. He had done some unkind things before this episode, but only out of ignorance.
  • Big Fun: A chubby little ball of fun.
  • Big "NO!": He says one in "Gilben's Different", after he was pressured from by everyone.
  • Blatant Lies: When Jeff finds out in "Jeff’s New Toy" that Clarence broke his robot toy, Clarence proceeds to spin an elaborate story about a raccoon breaking into Jeff’s room, breaking the toy, and destroying the toy further during its attempt at fixing it. Jeff obviously doesn’t buy it; hell even Sumo gets fed up and cuts to the chase.
Clarence: That’s what happened, right Sumo?
    Sumo: No. Clarence broke it.
  • Butt-Monkey: When sometimes gets himself into situations he can't get out of, such as trying to deal with an unmended friendship.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: Has trouble keeping Jeff's secret in "Jeff's Secret". However 'trouble' in this case means that things keep getting in the way of him blurting it out for everyone to hear. He calls his mom and says he should be able to tell the secret if he wants to, and rather than listen to his mom telling him to respect Jeff's wishes he tries to arrange circumstances so he can tell it in a way so that it won't be made a big deal.
  • Characterization Marches On: Clarence wasn't The Ditz in the first ten or so episodes of season one.
  • Children Are Innocent: Clarence is incredibly naive and trusting, often to his own detriment.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: From sending written invitations before introducing himself to being asked to shave another kid's head to cracking open a piñata filled with bees, it's safe to say that Clarence has strange ideas about making friends and having fun.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: The casserole he and Sumo make in "Dollar Hunt" is an unholy combination of food items they found in the kitchen, ranging from peaches to dog food. Ms. Mushburgur seems to like it (going full Laughing Mad all the while), while another book club member is seen vomiting into her purse after tasting it.
  • Crossdresser:
    • Briefly, in "Clarence Gets a Girlfriend".
    • He dresses as a stereotypical Eighties girl in "Belson's Sleepover" to lure Belson out of hiding.
  • The Ditz: He’s not a very bright person.
  • Does Not Like Spam: He hates the new "Cinnamon Ranch" sauce, so much that he basically writes an elaborate Fan Fic about how the stuff brainwashes anyone who eats it and mutates them into alien chickens.
  • Easily Impressed: Clarence goes out of his way to find marvel in everything, even the unappealing activity of trash disposal.
  • Elmuh Fudd Syndwome: Clarence's speech pattern is this in the 1st season. He drops this in later episodes.
  • Epic Fail: In "Jeff's New Toy" Sumo tells him to glue back the head of Jeff’s toy after they accidentally break it and buys him some time to do so. Not only does Clarence destroy the head of Jeff’s toy, but his further attempts at fixing it only worsen it to the point that the toy is left in tatters.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Parodied. He wears the stereotypical pirate eyepatch in "Dream Boat" when they’re testing out the boat the trio made, telling Jeff that pirates live dangerously and his one eye is proof of that. When the boat sinks, he’s just as hapless as the rest of his friends.
  • Fan Disservice: Clarence gets the most amount of shirtless scenes. There's also some episodes of him pantless, which includes having his buttcrack shown from time to time.
  • Fat Idiot: He's obese and while not extremely stupid, just not as bright as his friends and classmates.
  • Fictional Currency: His Clarence Dollars from “Clarence's Millions”, which he creates as an alternative rewards system after seeing how the buddy stars system is making everybody at school sad (sans Jeff of course). Unfortunately for Clarence, his dollars eventually become so valuable that his schoolmates fight over them and plunge the school into chaos. In the end, he’s forced to print so many Clarence Dollars that the currency eventually becomes worthless.
  • Flanderization: Clarence being naive and clueless was always his main personality trait, but earlier episodes had him being an imaginative child. Overtime, though, his naivety became exaggerated in the second half of first season where he became more stupid, and became a Karma Houdini and Idiot Houdini, getting into trouble-making, especially with Sumo, and will often get away without facing any consequences or punishment. However, he goes back to his original characterization in Season 2.
  • Foil: Clarence to Belson. Both have mothers who care about them but while Belson's mother lets him get away with everything and is a pushover, Mary is sweet but stern with Clarence. They both also have missing fathers, though Clarence's dad is out of the picture for unknown reasons (implied to be divorce) and he has a "Chad" to replace him while Belson's dad isn't around only because of work and he has no fraternal substitute. Clarence is also an optimist who loves everything while Belson is a pessimist who sees others as below him.
  • Freudian Trio: The emotional Id who does whatever he wants and just goofs off.
  • A Friend in Need: He and Jeff show up near the end of “Dream Boat” to help Sumo build his boat after the latter destroys it in frustration, forgoing the showing of Robofrog 2 to build the boat together.
"Hey buddy, you need some help? Because you got some. We’re gonna stay right here and build all night until your dream boat is a real boat."
  • Friend to All Living Things: In "Rise and Shine", he feeds the raccoons in the neighborhood, and tries to help a mountain lion to escape from a park ranger's tranquilizer gun. In "Pretty Great Day With a Girl", he's greeting every dog in the neighborhood as he passes by.
  • Fun Personified: Everything about the kid screams "good times."
  • Gasshole: Clarence can be this. In "Nature Clarence", he farted up Joshua's nose, and in "Detention", he ripped a very huge one in class in order to get into detention. He also farted in "The Breakup", "The Boxcurse Children", and "Freedom Cactus".
  • Heroic BSoD: Clarence has one when he misses recess and "kills" his Lil Buddy doll. This results in virtually changing everything in his life and becoming even more of a juvenile delinquent than he was before.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Sumo and Jeff.
  • Idiot Houdini: In episode where accidents happen, he usually pays no attention to it and doesn't receive any punishment.
  • Jerkass Ball: Even this kid can have a few selfish moments.
    • In "L'il Buddy", all because he missed recess, he became an emo causing trouble. Belson gave him praise for his change in personality.
    • "Where the Wild Chads Are" had him deliberately ditch Chad's camping supplies so he can see Chad as he pictured him. Results were... idiotic.
  • Kiddie Kid: There are some occasions where he exhibits the same kind of Innocently Insensitive behavior a toddler would have.
  • Kindhearted Simpleton: He's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he makes up for that with his kindhearted personality and drive to be everyone's friend.
  • Nice Guy: A stand out example. He doesn't seem to have a bad bone in his body.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: He likes to stand real close to people.
  • Protagonist Title: "Clarence" is the series' title and his name is "Clarence".
  • Redemption Quest: Goes on one near the end of "Lost in the Supermarket" after he accidentally causes his mom to lose all her coupons, with him and Sumo splitting up to get as many coupons as they can from both the supermarket’s machines and newspapers.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The more gentle Sensitive to Sumo and slightly more physical Manly to Jeff.
  • Shipper on Deck: To Sumo and Chelsea, after they kissed in "Too Gross For Comfort".
  • Shirtless Scene: Takes off his shirt a lot, and he's shown to have a shirt tanline.
  • Speech Impediment: Clarence has a slight lateral lisp.
  • Start My Own: The conflict in "Clarence's Millions" is kicked off by Clarence growing disillusioned with Ms. Baker’s buddy stars system, resulting in him creating his own Clarence Dollars as an alternative currency for everyone.
  • Tan Lines: Has noticeable tan lines whenever he's seen without some (if not all) of his clothing.
  • Took a Level in Dumbass: In the 2nd half of Season 1, Clarence becomes even dumber.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: A big fan of Rough Riders Chicken, to the point that he makes his own elaborate fanfiction about a new sauce he doesn't like to present it in class.
  • Two First Names: Either "Clarence" or "Wendle" can be used as a first name.
  • Vocal Dissonance: He'd be expected to have a high-pitched, nearly-pubescent boy voice, but he speaks in a Speech Impediment indicative of Elmuh Fudd Syndwome.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Always sees the positives in everything.
  • With Catlike Tread: Loudly crashes into several trashcans while trying to sneak around in "The Zoo", among other things. Unsurprisingly, this causes him and Belson to be eventually caught by the zookeeper.
  • Would Hit a Girl: He punches Malessica numerous times in "Slumber Party", though in a way intended to be playful (but still a little too hard).

    Jeffrey "Jeff" Randell
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jeff_6020.jpg
Voiced by: Sean Giambrone

One of Clarence's best friends. He is very uptight.

  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: "Detention" sees Jeff immediately abuse his power as hall monitor upon his induction as he allows the kids in detention to throw a massive party.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Don't ever steal Jeff's fries.
    • Don't break his toys either.
    • And if things don't go by his way, he won't take it well. "Average Jeff" was a good example of this.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He's more well mannered than Clarence and Sumo, tends to give anyone respect, and has good intentions, but if anything works against him, he will be unafraid to attack anyone if they try to provoke him at that point.
  • Butt-Monkey: It's usually when he's put into situations courtesy of Clarence and/or Sumo, or when he's just the No-Respect Guy.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Sees himself as this but see below.
  • Endearingly Dorky: In the earlier episodes more so, but given the touch of social awkwardness, Jeff is this at times.
  • Entitled Bastard: Has a nasty habit of thinking he deserves things, such as a turn on Belson's new game system or being put in the advanced class.
  • Flanderization: He went from being a germophobic, yet well-intended boy with a set of standards and morals that he lived by, to being a self-centered, narcissistic, egotistical jerk that would use Clarence as a pawn to help him get attention from all of the other kids, who don't find him cool or that interesting at all. However, the second and third seasons made him less of a jerk, sticking to his original roots of being moral to subjects, and had gotten used to Clarence and Sumo's hijinks.
  • Freudian Trio: The Superego.
  • Hates Being Touched: Jeff is a huge germaphobe and immediately disinfects himself after being touched.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Clarence and Sumo.
  • Incredibly Lame Fun: His Imagine Spot in "Man of the House" has him tying Clarence and Sumo up so he can clean the house.
  • Insufferable Genius: A mild example. He is so prideful of his maturity and intelligence, that he grows flustered whenever someone else advances before him, like when Clarence has a girlfriend.
  • It's All About Me: Jeff has a tendency to think about himself more than others.
  • Jerkass Ball: It's pretty downplayed, but there are some episodes where he's more egotistical and arrogant.
    • "Average Jeff" has him trying everything he can to be in the Quill class, even tried to bribe Ms. Baker which didn't work.
    • In "The Big Petey Pizza Problem", he's distraught when Gilben was having his own birthday party at the same place as his, and he was worried that everyone would leave his party for Gilben's. Near the end, his name on the cake was not added, and it said "Happy Birthday, Gilben & companion" and he politely asked they fix "Companion" to "Jeff", only for it to be changed to "George" instead. What does he do next? Immaturely blow the candles out before the kids could finish "Happy Birthday". Wow.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Jeff can be quite a control freak and selfish at times along with spouting some pretty hurtful things, but it's more than clear that he does care about Clarence and Sumo.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: The Feminine Boy to Chelsea, and to a lesser extent, Malessica's Masculine Girls.
  • Neat Freak: Due to being Terrified of Germs, he prefers everything to be tidy and in order.
  • Nervous Wreck: Jeff is jumpy.
  • Not So Above It All: He willingly gets into some of Clarence and Sumo's schemes, and he's been directly responsible for a few of the trio's antics.
    • A regular occurrence is for Jeff to end up acting much worse than Clarence or Sumo after spending the episode preaching against them.
  • Obsessively Organized: Jeff in a nutshell. He's absolutely terrified over the prospect of any inconsistency.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: The usually clean and well-behaved Jeff has loosened up a bit in "Dinner Party", as he does not stop anyone from going into Breehn's attic, and is actually intrigued by it (thinking Breehn's parents might be hiding something). Perhaps even he finds the party boring.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Shows no embarrassment in wearing a pink apron in the kitchen or doing housework.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Sensitive to Clarence and Sumo.
  • Skewed Priorities: He's absolutely desperate for success in life, having once prioritized cleaning Clarence's eyes in Puddle Eyes just so the trio would have a chance at winning the vision bee, and receives a What the Hell, Hero? moment from Ms. Baker in Average Jeff for outright claiming that he wants his future to be better than those of his friends.
  • The Smart Guy: While Sumo is quick and nimble, and Clarence is The Big Guy, Jeff is the brains of the trio.
  • Stealth Pun: Jeff has a square head to match his square personality.
  • Terrified of Germs: He Hates Being Touched because of his fear of germs.
  • Tritagonist: Fills this role when playing Straight Man to Clarence and Sumo.
  • Vocal Evolution: His voice has started to crack and become deeper beginning in Season 2 due to his voice actor being in the middle of puberty. He still tries to speak in a higher resonant.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: He's basically an uptight college student trapped in a body of a grade-schooler.

    Ryan "Sumo" Sumouski
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sumo_6828.jpg
Voiced by: Jason Marsden (Pilot), Tom Kenny

Clarence's best friend. A bald, raspy-voiced kid who lives in a trailer with his large family.

  • Amazon Chaser: Had a crush on the tomboyish Chelsea note  and in "Attack the Block Party" he finds himself entranced by something on TV that has bodybuilding surfer girls in it.
  • Animal Motifs: Dogs. He has a habit of running on all fours and growling like a dog. He's even sometimes scratched himself with his leg.
  • Artistic License – Law: Played for Laughs in "Jeff’s New Toy". To resolve the conflict, Sumo dresses up as the Robot Judge and hands down a verdict to his friends- with Jeff protesting that he didn’t even formally charge the two with anything before giving out the verdict.
  • Big Eater: He'll even eat a dead frog.
  • Butt-Monkey: It's mainly when he's mistreated by his old brothers or when he sometimes gets into reckless situations he brings on himself.
  • Charlie Brown Baldness: It's mostly stubble after he and Clarence shaved it off.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: When he and Clarence first meet, the first thing they do together is shave Sumo's head. And thus, a lifelong friendship is formed.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: An adorable weirdo, with a voice akin to Zorak, SpongeBob SquarePants if he was a chain smoker, or Beavis.
  • A Day in the Limelight: "Dream Boat" gives us a day in the life of Sumo as he tries to impress his father by building a boat and sailing it.
  • Deuteragonist: Well, he is Clarence's best friend.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Subverted; he's rarely called Ryan, not even by his teacher and parents.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: In "Pretty Great Day With A Girl", he didn't seem to mind being around Belson, but in the rest of the series, he DESPISES Belson with a passion.
  • Establishing Character Moment: He shows up at Clarence’s door during the pilot and immediately tells the latter to shave his hair, which Clarence obliges to their collective joy. This establishes him as a fellow Cloudcuckoolander to our hero and his closest friend out of the trio.
  • Flanderization: He was originally a well-intentioned, streetwise kid who had no intention of being a troublemaker. He later becomes a borderline insane freak and a troublemaker who along with Clarence will go through all kinds of hell just to start trouble for everyone. Later, though, his characterization would go back to the original, at least somewhat.
  • Freudian Trio: The Ego.
  • Hates Baths: To the point that his mother uses them as a punishment. He seems fine with showers, though.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Clarence and Jeff.
  • Hot-Blooded: He can match both Clarence's energy and Jeff's hotheadedness.
  • Jerkass Ball: In some episodes like "Birthday" and "The Break Up"
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He may be a bit rude, but his heart is in the right place.
  • Keet: This guy is full of energy.
  • The Lancer: Clarence's closest friend out of the trio.
  • Large Ham: He loves to chew the scenery, occasionally literally.
  • Le Parkour: He is incredibly agile, being able to effortlessly jump and flip off walls.
  • Massively Numbered Siblings: One of twelve siblings. 10 brothers and one sister.
  • Motor Mouth: He's a fast talker, and never shuts up.
  • NO INDOOR VOICE: He yells a lot.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Sumo sure is puny for someone with that name.
  • Oh, Crap!: Absolutely horrified when he realizes that Clarence’s mystery piñata in the pilot is full of bees and tries to stop Jeff from breaking it open. Unfortunately for Sumo, he’s too late.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: His real name is Ryan, but everyone calls him "Sumo". Even his own father calls him by his nickname.
  • Only Sane Man: Surprisingly. But with Jeff, despite being The Smart Guy, being a complete neurotic and Clarence coming off as naive, he's the closest thing to a voice of reason the trio has.
  • Pass the Popcorn: When Jeff beats up Clarence for breaking his robot toy in "Jeff’s New Toy", Sumo spends most of it eating the peanut butter sandwich Jeff made him before calling the company to get a new robot toy.
  • Running Gag: He starts getting all weird looking whenever he gets distressed, frustrated, or sometimes even minding his own business.
  • Running on All Fours: He'll do this occasionally.
  • Sanity Ball: Gets this in "Jeff's New Toy".
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Manly to Clarence and Jeff.
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: Kisses Chelsea in the heat of their argument.
  • Smarter Than You Look: He's a lot more clever and resourceful than his wacky behavior lets on. He's particularly snarky around Jeff when the latter's being an Insufferable Genius.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: He and Clarence are closest in the trio since they both share the same interests in crazy and weird activities.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Has a deep and gravelly voice.
  • Younger Than They Look: He has the raspy voice of an older person in a 9 year old body.

Supporting Characters

    Amy Gillis
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amy_gillis_2.jpg
Voiced by: Ava Acres

A girl who enjoys Clarence's company. She seems to do things that girls don't usually do, like have wars or fights.

  • Advertised Extra: Only appeared in one episode, but was treated as a major character in early promotional material.
  • The Cameo: She appeared in only one episode, but had two brief appearances to some following episodes.
    • She can be seen in the audience in "Rough Riders Elementary"note .
    • She appeared in a flashback in "Clarence for President" and it reveals she was class president in Aberdale Elementary.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Averted, as it's implied that may she moved away after her first appearance.
  • Decoy Protagonist: She plays a significant role in the first episode, only to disappear entirely for the rest of the series.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She wears her hair like this.
  • Nice Girl: She's very friendly.
  • One of the Boys: Like Chelsea, she seems to get along well with the boys.
  • Outdoorsy Gal: She's interested in rock formations, has pine cone fights, and doesn't mind receiving a severed lizard tail as a gift.
  • Put on a Bus: After "Pretty Great Day With A Girl".
  • Tank-Top Tomboy: She is a tomboyish Outdoorsy Gal who wears a black tank top paired with short shorts.
  • Tomboy: Of the Outdoorsy Gal variety. She likes rock formations, pine cone fights, and exploring.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Despite having a major role in her only appearance, and being shown to bond with the main character, she is not seen or even mentioned in subsequent episodes. However, given that she stated she would probably move out due to her parents divorcing, her absence is justified. According to Spencer Rothbell, that is exactly what happened to her, and she never made a return.

    Melanie Baker
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xne0af4sj4461.png
Voiced by: Katie Crown

Clarence's teacher at school, who seems to be very uncomfortable with her job and has no luck finding a good man.

  • Butt-Monkey: She doesn't have much luck at all.
  • Cool Teacher: She isn't a pushover in the classroom, but she's still laid back.
  • A Day in the Limelight: "Neighborhood Grill", "Bye Bye Baker", "Classroom", and "The Substitute".
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: In the pilot, she had thinner glasses, shorter and more curly hair and was named as Mrs. Bernstein.
  • Endearingly Dorky: A Bespectacled Cutie who is unlucky and anxious.
  • The Glasses Gotta Go: Switches to contacts in "Suspended". From "Turtle Hats" onward she keeps her glasses on at work and wears contacts when off work.
  • Hot Teacher: Gets hit on fairly regularly by guys around town.
  • Informed Attractiveness: Her design is fairly average, but men in-universe treat her as if she's super-attractive. In one episode, Mr. Reese wants to marry her, but she isn't interested.
  • Male Gaze: We get a close-up of her butt while she's jogging.
  • Nervous Wreck: She's neurotic.
  • Progressively Prettier: Originally she had a skinny face and bags under her eyes. From "Puddle Eyes" onward, she has a fuller face, no bags under her eyes, and visible eyelashes.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: As the substitute principal in "Lil Buddy", she solves the problem with Clarence by talking things out with him, giving him his doll back and letting him have his own recess to make up for the one he missed.
  • Sensei-chan: A rare Western example, as she's a Hot Teacher who's close with her students.
  • Team Mom: She often acts like this.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After three seasons of bad luck with finding a man, she is shown kissing Mr. Mozer in the last episode.

    Belson Noles
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/belson_744_1.png
Voiced by: Jason Marsden (Pilot), Roger Craig Smith

The resident Jerkass of the neighborhood.

  • Anti-Villain: Belson may be a grouch, but he's lonely and lacks a true friend, also his family background contributes.
  • Befriending the Enemy: In "Officer Moody", when Belson pulls the fire alarm, just as Reese's Cowboy Cop ex-partner Carol Moody is about to give Belson some rough Police Brutality treatment, Mr. Reese and the students stand up for Belson in an epic I Am Spartacus moment, with each of them claiming they pulled the fire alarm, except for Jeff, who mentions that he saw Mavis pulling the fire alarm.
  • Big Ol' Unibrow: And he has the grouchy personality to match.
  • The Bully: A downplayed version, as he isn't overly malicious and is fine with simply hanging out with Clarence on occasion. He can be quite selfish, though, especially about his video games.
  • Depending on the Writer: Depending on the episode, the kids either treat Belson like a normal person or they (barring Clarence of course) see him as a jerkass they can barely stand to be around.
    • His personality is also rather inconsistent. One minute, he is an energetic prankster who otherwise clearly doesn’t mind bonding with others and having fun. Next minute, he is a lazy, anti-social grump who just wants to play video games.
  • Establishing Character Moment: During the pilot, he’s introduced as uninterested in Clarence’s sleepover and later crumples his invitation into a ball that he throws at Clarence just to be mean with a smug look on his face. This solidly establishes him as the series’ main bully and resident jerk.
  • Expy: Similar to Nelson Muntz, as both started off as antagonists (albeit never outright evil), but were revealed to have Hidden Depths.
  • Eye Scream: At the end of the episode "The Tails of Mardrynia", two bugs get inside his eyelids and start living there.
  • Fat Bastard: Short, pudgy and a Spoiled Brat.
  • Faux Affably Evil: More like Faux Affably Jerk. He's often generous to Clarence and the other kids, but in the end, he'll show his true colors by turning his back on everyone else, just to see if he gets any attention from doing so.
  • Flanderization: In the second half of Season 1, he Took a Level in Jerkass, while in Season 2, he was demoted to usually just playing alone with a portable game console.
  • Foil: He's pretty much the opposite of Clarence, as Clarence is optimistic while Belson is pessimistic, and they both have kind moms as well as two best friends. Likewise, Clarence tends to be nice, while Belson is a Jerkass.
  • Gag Nose: Belson has a large nose.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • In "Clarence's Millions", he has a lot of stars on the good behavior board, implying he tones down his selfishness and pushy attitude at school.
    • In "The Zoo", he confesses to Clarence that he likes dolphins.
  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: He's pretty awful at bullying Clarence, to the point that Clarence has no idea that he is a bully.
  • Jerkass: He's mean spirited, but ultimately pretty harmless. His cousin Gary "Mooch" is just as bad, if not worse.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: There are times when he shows his caring side. Also, despite his bratty behaviour he does care about his mom and his friend Pipi.
  • Karmic Butt-Monkey: He gets his deserved comeuppance a lot in this show.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: He often receives this when his intentions backfire, such as in "Li'l Buddy", when he pulled Clarence's pants down just to get attention, and soon after got sucker punched in the nose by Clarence, who was already on edge.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Heavily suggested during the episode where Clarence goes to his sleepover.
  • The Napoleon: He's small and a bully.
  • Rich Bastard: He's rich, spoiled, and mean.
  • Spoiled Brat: His mom gets him everything he wants and in return he treats her like dirt (think Cartman back in the early episodes of South Park, only not as whiny or politically incorrect). "Dust Buddies" has his mom try to discipline him.
  • Tuckerization: His name is a Spoonerism of creative director/showrunner Nelson Boles.
  • Unknown Rival: Clarence sees him as a friend, not realizing that he's the bully of the school, let alone that he actually dislikes Clarence.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Pipi.
  • When He Smiles: Gives a genuine smile in “The Zoo” when Clarence tells him of a planet filled with baby dolphins, saying that would be pretty cool.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: In the Christmas special, it's implied Belson misses his father which Mooch mocks him for. Doesn't help that father doesn't care about seeing him at all.

Butt-Monkey of Belson's trio of friends.

    Breehn
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/breehn_happy_7.png
Voiced by: Joshua Rush

A meek smart kid with a bowtie, and super snobby parents.

  • Butt-Monkey: Breehn tends to come across a lot of bad luck - he's had part of his house collapse, and draws the ire of the entire class because of his peanut allergy leaving their zoo excursion ridiculously limited and later gets carted to hospital after tricking Percy into giving him a peanut butter sandwich. It's also implied that he's one of Belson's more frequent victims.
    • The episode "Breehn Ho" seems to have been made for the purpose of subverting this as Breehn gets more than a few awesome moments in it and ends the episode as the hero.
  • Foil: To his parents. They are rude and nasty, while he is very kind and pleasant.
  • Forgettable Character: Oftentimes, the other characters will not notice his presence, even when there are only four characters present and they're all sitting in a circle.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: He's timid and more well-off than the other kids.
  • Nice Guy: He's one of the nicest and friendliest kids. His parents are the opposite.
  • Self-Induced Allergic Reaction: Shovels down a peanut-butter sandwich despite being allergic to peanuts.
    Breehn: It wasn't worth it.
  • Stronger Than You Look: In "The Big Petey Pizza Problem", he manages to carry and roll six bowling balls at once.
  • Was It Really Worth It?: Played for Laughs. After eating a peanut butter sandwich in "The Zoo", causing an allergic reaction that leaves his face horrifically swollen, and getting punched by Nathan as revenge for putting an end to the zoo trip Breehn sadly notes that trying peanut butter wasn’t worth it as he gets loaded onto an ambulance.

    Chelsea Keezheekoni
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chelsea2_5.jpg
Voiced by: Nika Futterman ("Money Broom Wizard"), Grace Kaufman

A spindly girl with a big hairdo and an obsession with creepy stuff.

  • Ambiguously Brown: Chelsea has tanned skin, but her exact ethnicity is vague as she has a large afro note , and a Native American surname note . Though with these factors in mind, she could be mixed race.
  • Brutal Honesty: Chelsea is the type of girl to speak her mind.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Never misses a chance to snark at anything.
  • False Teeth Tomfoolery: Her two front teeth are false and part of her retainer.
  • Genki Girl: She's got a lot of pep.
  • Hidden Depths: "Average Jeff" reveals that she is much smarter than she appears. She's the second highest scoring student in the advanced class, right behind Breehn.
    • In "Missing Cat", she was strong enough to beat Nathan in arm wrestling.
  • Huge Schoolgirl: Is taller than most of her male classmates.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Chelsea is brutally honest, but has a soft side.
  • Meaningful Name: Her surname, Keezheekoni, is a Native American word for "burning fire," which fits with her tomboyish nature.
  • Motor Mouth: Rarely ever shuts up.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: In "Dinner Party", she keeps suggesting a dead body when the kids try to guess what kind of things are around Breehn's house. She also smiles when Clarence touches fiberglass while the other kids look worried.
  • NO INDOOR VOICE: She is a loud-mouth.
  • One of the Boys: Tries to join the guys' club in "Too Gross for Comfort".
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: Kisses Sumo in the heat of their argument.
  • The Smurfette Principle: She's the only girl in Clarence's circle of friends.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: With Sumo.
  • Tomboy: She is a Genki Girl who loves creepy and weird things and gets along very well with boys.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: She's the Tomboy to Kimby's Girly Girl. The episode "Plant Daddies" in particular highlights this, with Chelsea and Kimby working on a project together at the latter's house. Chelsea is taken aback by Kimby's very pink bedroom, and excitedly asks her if the werewolf-teen boy hybrid poster on her wall is a human hunting monster. The two girls wind up getting along and doing well on their project despite their differing interests.
  • Tomboyish Voice: She has a fairly deep voice.
  • Town Girls: The Butch to Kimby and Courtlin's Femme and Malessica's Neither.
  • Tsundere: With Sumo.
  • Twofer Token Minority: She appears African-American by appearance alone, but her last name is Native American (Chippewa specifically).

    Joshua
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/joshwithbroom_3.jpg
Voiced by: Brent Popolizio

A very unfortunate young man. Whenever he appears, expect something to go wrong for him.

  • Aborted Arc: One could guess that more episodes involving Joshua were planned. If ones like “Water Park” were to be believed, he was supposed to be set up as a serious enemy to Clarence and Sumo, going on multiple rampages for all the misery they have caused him. However, it seems the writers lost interest to go that route, as Josh has been gradually Demoted to Extra, with more pleasant things happening to him for a bonus.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Once he appears as a pizza delivery boy on "Chalmers Santiago", he's shown to have a Hook Hand, possibly from falling off a train on "Chimney".
  • Butt-Monkey: Nothing ever goes right for him. So far he's been scarred, gotten his ear bitten off and a piece of his afro munched up, had an eye put out by a fork, fallen off a moving train, and fallen hundreds of feet off a water slide.
  • Cosmic Plaything: Something bad happens to him in every episode he appears in.
  • Demoted to Extra: He's a recurring character in the first season, but after his one major appearance in the second season, Josh only appears as an extra. Considering how he was maimed in some way during nearly every speaking role, it's probably for the best.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Constantly on the receiving end of this. He tends to be guilty of little more than a bad attitude, but comes away from episodes with permanent injuries.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Always called Joshua, when he wants to be called Josh.
  • Formerly Fit: As of "Chimney", he's clearly been packing on the pounds.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: His injuries are never shown on screen.
  • Mutilation Conga: He gains a new injury in almost every episode he appears in.
  • New Job as the Plot Demands: He's had a different job in (nearly) every appearance. So far, he's been:
    • A grocer ("Lost in the Supermarket")
    • A park ranger ("Nature Clarence")
    • A waiter ("Neighborhood Grill")
    • A restauranteur ("Rough Riders Elementary")note
    • A nurse ("Bedside Manners")
    • Homeless ("Chimney")
    • A pizza delivery guy ("Chalmers Santiago")
    • Squirty the mascot ("Water Park")
    • An actor ("Ren Faire")
  • No-Respect Guy: He tries to get respect, but never succeeds at doing so.
  • Oh, Crap!: After the events of "Nature Clarence", he has a panic attack whenever he sees Clarence.
  • Properly Paranoid: Every time he shows up, he gets hurt and/or attacked by Sumo.
  • Scars Are Forever: He has a scar on his cheek and a notch in his ear courtesy of Sumo.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: He hates Clarence and Sumo, not that they even remember him.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: "Ren Faire", his last appearance before being Demoted to Extra, ends with Josh appearing to be sacrificed by a strange cult. Then, after the screen goes black, he shouts with joy that his coworkers threw him a birthday party.
  • Took a Level in Dumbass: It seems his constant suffering may have took a toll on his mental health and sanity. One time, his psychotic hatred for Clarence reached such a breaking point that he thought it was necessary to jump off a water slide head-first in order to apprehend the kid for stealing his costume. Another time he hallucinated a dog talking to him. Although, that may have been excusable due to the nature of the show.
  • Unknown Rival: To Clarence, Jeff, and Sumo, to the point that in "Water Park", Sumo doesn't recognize him!

Kids

    Kimby
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kimby_being_cute_9.jpg
Voiced by: Isabella Niems

A shy and quiet girl.

    Malessica
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_0661_1.png
Voiced by: Ivy Bishop

One of Kimby's friends. She used to have a crush on Jeff.

  • Hidden Depths: According to test scores in "Average Jeff", Malessica's intelligence is fairly average; somewhere above Jeff's.
  • The Smart Girl: Practically a female Jeff, just not a Nervous Wreck.
  • Town Girls: The neither to Kimby and Courtlin's femme and Chelsea's butch.

    Courtlin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_0658_1.png
Voiced by: Tayler Buck

Kimby's other friend. All three of them are usually seen together.

  • Ambiguously Brown: While she's dark-skinned, it's unclear what ethnicity she is.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She wears her hair like this.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: She's just as feminine as Kimby, but she has a pair of tomboyish traits.
    • Unlike Kimby and Malessica, who are shy (though the former is a lot shier than the latter), Courtlin is brutally honest.
    • She's also the only one wearing a Tomboyish Baseball Cap in the second half of "Slumber Party".
    • Her voice is slightly less high-pitched than Kimby and Malessica's.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite her serious upbringing, she still gets excited over girly things.
  • Town Girls: The femme to Chelsea's butch and Malessica's neither (one of two).

    Blaide
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blaide_smile_3.jpeg
Voiced by: Skyler Page (season one), Spencer Rothbell (season two), Grace Kaufman ("Capture the Flag" onwards)
A noodly kid of indeterminate foreign origin.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Manages to find the 20-dollar bill in "Dollar Hunt" despite it being implied that he’s not even there for the hunt and just got lost trying to find a bus home while also being generally unaware of what’s happening. Not that it matters anyway since another kid named Malakevin just snatches it from him, rips it up, and eats it.
  • Funny Foreigner: Has an accent sounding European, and can be funny, such as when he speaks in bad grammar.
  • You No Take Candle: He doesn't appear to have English quite down yet.
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: It's somewhat similar to an Eastern-European accent.

    Tinia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tinia_from_patients_1.jpg
Voiced by: Mckenna Grace, Anastasia James (crying voice)
A girl whom Clarence meets at a hospital.

    Regis Gilben
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gilben_5.png

An odd kid who doesn't seem to move very much, if at all.

  • Behind the Black: He only ever moves when off-screen.
  • Creepy Child: Though he's not considered one in-universe.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: He moved on-screen in early episodes.
  • Informed Attribute: All the kids talk about him as if he's a really cool and awesome guy. Since we never see him talk or move, we have to take their word for it.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: His arms are fairly thin, but he once beat a high schooler - a ridiculously muscular one - in arm wrestling.
  • The Noseless: He doesn't have a nose.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: Besides in early episodes, he would not move or even change positions onscreen unless something or someone was moving him.
  • Recurring Extra: By virtue of being a Living Prop.
  • The Silent Bob: He never talks, though other kids somehow hear him talking anyway.
  • The Stoic: His face is perpetually stuck in that stupid look on his face. There was one exception to this in "Li'l Buddy", where he appeared to be just as creeped out as the other kids.
  • The Voiceless: He talks to other kids but not onscreen.

    Guyler

As he appears in Birding with Guyler
A blond-haired boy with a long neck and a big nose. Although generally silent, he does make occasional grunts. He is friends with Clarence, and joins him on his escapades.

    Mavis
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mavis_from_the_forgotten_4.jpg
Voiced by: Spencer Rothbell

A short, odd, redheaded girl.

    Brady Brown
Voiced by: Daniel Di Maggio
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brady_brown.png
A shy, quiet, self-isolating student who has a crush on Mavis.
  • Expy: To Charlie Brown from Peanuts.
    • He also bears a physical resemblance to Milhouse Van Houten from The Simpsons.
  • Hidden Depths: "The Forgotten" shows that he's intelligent, as he is able to calculate how many kilometres him and Clarence have to travel to get to their houses.
  • Nervous Wreck: He has a timid and neurotic personality.
  • Recurring Extra: He is a recurring background character.
  • Shrinking Violet: He's really shy and awkward.
  • The Quiet One: He's not much of a talker.

    Emilio, Julien, and Memo

A trio who slightly resemble darker-skinned versions of Percy, Dustin, and Nathan, respectively.

    Amy Shutzger
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amy_shutzger_resize_6.png
Voiced by: Skyler Page (season one), Damien Haas (season two onwards)

A rather large girl who's one of Ashley's friends.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Has a crush on Jeff, as seen in "Suspended"; Jeff seems less than pleased about it.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices: Both of her voice actors were male.
  • Expy: She and Grenda from Gravity Falls are very similar, as both are young female characters who have deep voices, wear pink, have brown hair pulled back into a ponytail, and are physically very strong.
  • Foreshadowing: Her name was mentioned in "Pretty Great Day With a Girl", when Nathan and Dustin ask Belson to clarify whether Clarence was with this Amy or with Amy Gillis.
  • Gonky Femme: She's big and bulky, but very feminine.
  • Huge Schoolgirl: She's tall and bulky.
  • One-Steve Limit: Before she moved, there was Amy Gillis.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Subverted since she's actually feminine.
  • Younger Than They Look: As large as she is, she's in the same grade as Clarence and friends.

    Camden Golightly
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/camden.png

A redheaded, droopy-cheeked kid.

    Pipi
  • Morality Pet: A downplayed one to Belson. Belson usually does not get along with other characters, but he really likes Pipi. They do get along, but usually by playfully fighting together.
  • Tomboy: She is into gross things and crude jokes. Also, she lacks manners and isn't romantic.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Seems to be the case. She acts like a tomboy, but dresses very girly (she wears a bow on her head, a skirt and high heels).
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Belson

School Staff

Aberdale Elementary

    Mr. Jim Reese
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mr_reese_8.png
Voiced by: Skyler Page (season one), Donovan Patton (every episode after Page's termination)

A substitute teacher/detention handler at Aberdale Elementary.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Frequently hits on Ms. Baker, which usually fails as she isn't interested into him.
  • Butt-Monkey: He takes a lot of crap.
  • Donut Mess with a Cop: His policing as revealed in "Officer Moody" consisted solely of eating donuts, and being a general doofus.
  • Fat Bastard: He's heavyset and crabby.
  • Fat Idiot: Fat and stupid.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite his perceived grumpiness, he does care for the students and wants them to succeed, as seen in episodes like "Dream Boat" and "Freedom Cactus".
  • Must Have Caffeine: Is almost never seen without a mug of coffee.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Thinks very highly of himself, despite only having been a police officer for two years.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In the first season, he was portrayed as very gruff and firm, not taking kindly to hijinks. But now, he often seems to want to get involved with the students' antics, and can be just as silly as them.
  • Younger Than They Look: He appears to be in his 50s, but he's shown to have been schoolmates with Ms. Baker, meaning that he's actually in his 30s.

    Brenda Shoop
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/msshoop_1_1.jpg
Voiced by: Katie Crown

Another teacher at Aberdale Elementary, she seems to put very little effort into actually doing her job.

  • Big Eater: Is seen devouring a plate of wings in "Turtle Hats".
  • Child Hater: If her actions in "Lost Playground" are any indication (she took a bit too much glee in taking away the kids' recess).
  • Fat Bastard: Big, plump, mean to practically anyone, and a total buzzkill.
  • For the Evulz: Some of the things she does are because of this trope.
  • Freudian Excuse: According to a flashback to her childhood in Lost Playground, we find out that when all the other kids went outside to play during recess, her mother, Millie, who worked at Aberdale Elementary before she did, would never let her play outside, telling her that it was too dangerous and that she'd hurt herself.
  • Fun-Hating Confiscating Adult: She has the ENTIRE playground confiscated when one of the kids is hurt.
  • Gasshole: Rips a mighty fart in "Freedom Cactus", immediately after claiming that "flatulence is to be done in the bathroom, in private".
  • Jerkass: Probably the biggest one of any regular character; she doesn't care about the kids in "Average Jeff", she punishes children for odd reasons (giving Percy detention because he cried too much after falling off the swing, for instance), she is an incredible buzzkill (see Child Hater and Moral Guardian), and she even gets away with drawing a food graffiti insult directed at Mr. Reese.
  • Karma Houdini: Gets away with committing vandalism on Mr. Reese's car with the marinara sauce from the spilled meatball sub, not even ending up on Reese's list of suspects. (Belson was the one who Mr. Reese instead accused.)
  • Moral Guardians: From playgrounds to innocent comics of a cactus farting, she'll find anything offensive.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • She is a mean-spirited sadist who does whatever she can to foil the students' plans, but all the same she really does care about them, as she rescues Clarence from West Aberdare Elementary in "Field Trippin'".
    • Despite her sourpuss attitude, she really wants everyone to be safe, as shown in "Suspended."
  • Sadist Teacher: She punishes kids for tiny things.
  • Supreme Chef: Makes her own canned beans, which are apparently quite delicious. Don't expect her to put them on the market, because she just makes them for her personal consumption, and there will be heck to pay for anyone who tries to mess with her beans.
  • Troll: She vandalizes Mr. Reese's car with an insult directed towards him.
  • Vague Age: She may be Older Than She Looks; in "The Substitute", she mentions that she has been teaching for 29 years, which would mean that she is probably at least in her mid 50s. However, she looks to be around 40 at the oldest.

West Aberdale

    Mr. Mozer
Sumo's teacher at West Aberdale Elementary School as of Season 3.

    Ms. Lofton

Families

The Wendle Family

    Mary Wendle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mary_3430_8.png
Voiced by: Katie Crown

Clarence's mother.

  • Action Mom: In "Karate Mom".
  • Big Beautiful Woman: Has a heavyset shape.
  • Closer to Earth: She's the most grounded member of her family by far.
  • Good Parents: Mary's rare combination of patience, stamina, humor and unconditional support make her the perfect parent for Clarence. Mary is a very loving and caring mother to her high-energy son. She keeps him in check, however.
  • Not So Above It All: Although not as high and mighty as most examples, she's not as grounded as she first appeared. This is best shown when she immediately switches gears to spy on "Chalmers Santiago" with Clarence.
  • Parental Obliviousness: Has a habit of not noticing what mischief Clarence is getting into.
  • Parents as People: She's a very accurate portrayal of a lower middle class mother.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She likes to make and eat "Pizza Poppers" as seen in the "Pilot".
  • Two First Names: Either "Mary" or "Wendle" can be used as a first name.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: It is revealed in the episode "Plane Excited" that she suffers from airsickness.
  • Women Are Wiser: Downplayed as she's still likely mess around with her son or boyfriend.

    Charles "Chad" Caswell III

Voiced by: Eric Edelstein

Mary's slobbish, but amiable live-in boyfriend. Acts as a father figure to Clarence.

  • Alliterative Name: Charles Caswell. Also applies with his nickname.
  • Big Eater: He loves to eat.
  • Big Fun: Rather out of shape, but a fun dude.
  • Birds of a Feather: He's a fat goofball... but so is Clarence, and so they get along great.
  • Bumbling Dad: Although not Clarence's biological father, for sure he still counts given his goofiness.
  • Butt-Monkey: He suffers in a few episodes such as getting his legs broken after the boys booby trapped the door in his absence.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Chad can be rather spacey.
  • Drives Like Crazy: He should really keep his eyes on the road.
  • Expy: To Homer Simpson. The episode "Fishing Trip" even has him gradually losing his hair until he's left with the signature Homer haircut and says the character's catchphrase "D'oh!"
  • Fat Idiot / Fat Slob: A chubby Cloudcuckoolander.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Rushes to push Clarence out of the way during "Dinner Party" when the floor he’s standing on starts to break, saving him from falling at the seeming cost of his own life. Cue the rest of the kids scrambling to save Chad and causing the entire floor to give way, with everyone falling to the ground anyway.
  • Kavorka Man: The dude looks like a giant ape in a tank top (or what happens when you combine Homer Simpson with Greg Universe). And he is somehow dating Clarence's mom, who doesn't look like a, well, ape.
  • Loon with a Heart of Gold: He is quite the quirky guy, but he's also a Nice Guy.
  • Manchild: He has a goofy personality.
  • Nice Guy: He may be a screw-up, but he's a lovable guy who gets along great with Clarence.
  • One of the Kids: Gets along great with Clarence and his friends. In the episode "Dinner Party", he opts out of socializing with the grown-ups at a dinner party hosted by Breehn's parents, and instead joins in on an adventure with the kids in the attic.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: His full name is only seen on his license in "Where the Wild Chads Are".
  • Parental Substitute: Chad acts as a positive father figure to Clarence since Clarence's real father is MIA.
  • Perma-Stubble: Looks like a fade, with mustache hair to boot.

Jeff's moms.

    Rosie Randell
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rosie_randell.png
Jeff's Grandma
  • Granny Classic: She dresses the part with muted clothing colors and a shawl.
  • Prim and Proper Bun: She's just as overbearing as her grandson is, with the cube bun to match.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Like her daughter and grandson, she has a square noggin and, when she was a little girl, she looked like a female Jeff. Her personality is like his, too.

The Sumowskis

    Mel Sumouski
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sumos_dad_7.png
Voiced by: John DiMaggio

Sumo's dad who tries his best to manage his dozen offspring.

  • Ax-Crazy: He's very psychotic at times.
  • Big Ol' Unibrow: Type 2.
  • Bumbling Dad: Not to the extent of Chad, but still.
  • Characterization Marches On: In "Dinner Party" and "Dream Boat" he's fairly mellow and adjusted. Then comes "Nothing Ventured", where he's suddenly a manic, get-rich-quick type schemer. And then he reverts back to his mellow, sensible persona afterwards.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: "Nothing Ventured" shows he's almost as wacky as Sumo. When trying to build a modern art gallery with Chad, he suggests they make a "fire door", and actually means a door ''made of fire.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Same as Sumo, his last name varies between "Sumowski" and "Sumouski" in some episodes.
  • Like Father, Like Son: He's childish and hyperactive like his son.
  • Manchild: He's pretty immature and silly.
  • Men Don't Cry: In the "Flood Brothers" episode, he covers Sumo's eyes to "shield him from the sight of a grown man crying" after seeing Chad weeping over Clarence being lost. Of course, he might just be uncomfortable with any crying, since he didn't react well to the rest of the group's tears.

Mel and Tinona's oldest sons.

  • Big Brother Bully: To Sumo.
  • The Big Guy: Type 1, or possibly even a Type 6, judging by them demeanor. Possibly even bigger than Nathan himself.
  • Dumb Blonde: Tanner is a male example of this, but not to the extent that Clarence is.
  • Dumb Muscle: His phyisical appearance clarifies that he's muscular, and he lacks intelligence, even failing to master nail-stumping, which Sumo was able to do.
  • Jerkass: He's this to Sumo and Clarence.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: In "Stump Brothers", Tanner explains that he bullies Sumo because he wants to toughen him up.

    Brandi Sumouski
Mel and Tinona's only daughter and Sumo's, only sister.

Noles Family

some caption text

Belson's mother.

  • Extreme Doormat: She doesn't stand up to anyone.
  • Gag Nose: A pink one, it looks like her son's nose.
  • Parental Obliviousness: She's either unaware of her son's jerkish behavior or very forgiving of it.
  • Rich Bitch: Very much a subversion. She is fairly upper-middle-class, but she's a nice, if somewhat neurotic, woman and has the same struggles with parenting as everyone else, regardless of where they are on the socioeconomic ladder.
  • Stacy's Mom: Emilio thinks she's "foxy."
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She looks like a feminine, skinny, adult version of her son Belson. They even have similar noses.

    Mr. Noles
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/belsons_dad.jpg
He's the big guy in the back.
Belson's dad, who we hardly ever see.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: As we find out in Company Man, he'll do anything it takes to further the business. This gets him arrested for fraud and money laundering
  • Doting Parent: Besides his wife, Cynthia, being a pushover, his doting on Belson is the reason why the latter's so spoiled.
  • The Faceless: When he does make appearance, we don't see his face.
  • The Ghost: Up until Company Man and Big Game, he was mostly mentioned, though we do see him a picture.
  • Karma Houdini: Implied, since he's out of jail and still rich by Big Game.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: Cynthia explains that he works a lot.

Shoop Family

    Millie Shoop
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/millie_5.png
"I told you to get off the playground 20 years ago!"
Ms. Shoop's extremely protective mother who would never let her play outside as a child.
  • Freudian Excuse: If there's ever a reason why Ms. Shoop seemed so eager to take away the playground in Lost Playground, she's reason why, as she forbid her daughter from playing outside with the other kids.
  • Generation Xerox: In her youth, she was very similar to how her daughter is now.
  • Jerkass: Even more than her daughter, though, when it came to Brenda, she was more so a smother.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She very much resembles an older version of Ms. Shoop.

Others

    Walt and Tiffany
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/walt_and_tiffany___breehns_dad_and_mom.png
Breehn's parents.
  • Abusive Parent: When they do pay attention to their son, they're shown to be emotionally abusive towards him.
  • Hidden Depths: "Game Show" does this for Tiffany, showing that while she is still extremely snobby, at the end of the day, she does care about Breehn, is capable of kindness and is willing to bend just a little for Breehn's sake.
  • Only One Name: Their last name isn't said.
  • Rich Bitch: They're well off and act like they're better than everyone else. Tiffany is especially this.

    Mr. and Mrs. Dahmer
Percy's parents.

    Herschel "Hershey" Golightly
Camden's dad.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: We don't know if he's divorced or if his wife passed away, though his line "Shh, let the cheeks speak to each other" leans towards the latter.
    • Camden mentions his parents in the plural at least once, implying his mother is at least alive.
  • The Lost Lenore: If Lucy (a girl he met as a kid) became his wife and passed away.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: We find out his name is "Herschel" from a flashback.
  • Safety Worst: In Lost Playground, after Camden falls and gets his cheeks deflated, he's one of the main supporters of the playground getting replaced and then later on taken down. He eventually calms down when he finds the playground equipment he used to play on with the names "Herschel and Lucy" carved on it.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Looks like a much older version of Camden.

"Hurrumph!"
Voiced by: Katie Crown

An overweight woman who rides around on a scooter.

  • British Stuffiness: She's stuffy and has a British accent, though she might not be British.
  • Catchphrase: "Harumph!"
  • Charlie Brown Baldness: When her hair isn't in a bun, it looks like about a dozen hairs covering an otherwise bald scalp.
  • The Dreaded: At least considered this at Mary's hair parlor.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Had a cameo in "Lost in the Supermarket" and was mentioned in "Rise 'n' Shine", "Belson's Sleepover", and "Patients" long before she was the focus of an episode.
  • Evil Brit: She speaks with a British accent, and is The Sociopath.
  • Excessive Evil Eyeshadow: She's unpleasant and she wears prominent blue eyeshadow.
  • Fat Bastard: She's obese and unpleasant, overdemanding, too.
  • Hate Sink: She's one of the most unpleasant characters in the show. Her misdeeds range from picking a fight with Clarence, who is a child, to bossing around all of the employees at the hair parlor, to trying to kill one of said employeesnote .
  • Jerkass: She's unsatisfiable, rude, and irritable.
  • The Sociopath: Almost killed Kevin by running over him with her scooter.
  • Too Important to Walk: In "Hairence", after Clarence dumps a huge clump of green goop on her head, it's shown she can walk just fine without her scooter.
  • Unsatisfiable Customer: Used a coupon for Chuckleton's (which is a restaurant) to get a haircut. They don't even bother trying to argue that the coupon is invalid, just so they can get rid of her quicker.
  • Vocal Dissonance: From her name and appearance you would think she was American, but she has a British accent.

    Larry
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/old_man_clarence.png
An odd old man who once dated Ms. Baker.

    Lauren
An extremely smart girl who has been homeschooled since she was 6 years old and doesn't know much about the outside world.
  • Nice Girl: A stand out example. She doesn't seem to have a bad bone in her body.

    Lauren's Dad
Lauren's dignified yet gentle and open-minded hippie father who encourages Lauren to talk about her feelings.
  • Expy: His character traits resemble those of Mr. Van Driessen.
  • Granola Guy: He's more well-dressed than a stereotypical hippie, but definitely has the attitude.

    Ms. Mushburgur
The leader of Mary's book club.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: She was the only one who liked the disgusting casserole Clarence and Sumo made in "Dollar Hunt".
  • Cloudcuckoolander: She's very weird, to the point that she creeps a lot of people out.
  • The Dreaded: Everyone else in the book club is scared of her. Clarence and Chad think she's a witch.
  • Germanic Depressives: She's German and constantly speaks in a deadpan drone.
  • The Resenter: Hinted at in "Trampoline" when she sees a happy photo of Mary, Chad and Clarence and turns it over so it faces down. Though it's not made clear which of them she resents or why

    Balance
A violent, short-tempered circus performer with dwarfism who loves to terrorize children and has a hook for a right hand. He is very acrobatic and possesses mind control powers.
Voiced by: Spencer Rothbell

  • Big Bad: The closest thing that this show has to one.
  • Jerkass: To the point of seeming outright deranged. He tends to pick on literally everyone he can for no reason.
  • The Napoleon: One of the shortest characters in the series, and by far the most aggressive.
  • Psychic Powers: For some reason.
  • Token Super: Has psychic powers for no discernable reason.

Alternative Title(s): Clarence
