Character Sheet for Chousei Kantai Sazer X.

Sazer X

    In General
A resistance led by Commander Shark. Several specially selected members would be sent back in time to 2005 to stop Descal from taking over Earth.
    Takuto Ando

Takuto Ando/Lio-Sazer

Portrayed by: Ryosuke Takahashi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/takuto_ando_ep1.jpg
A young man from 2005 who aims to be an F1 racer. He was chosen by his grandfater Soujirou to fight the space-pirates. At first he likes to dash into situations without thinking, but gradually grows out of this.
  • Hot-Blooded: Has an extremely fiery and passionate personality that goes well with his element, fire.
  • King of Beasts: The lion-themed Sazer.
  • Leader Wannabe: In early episodes he doesn't like taking orders from Ad and wants to be the leader of Sazer-X. He matures past this pretty quickly though.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Prone to charging into battle without thinking. Commander Shark notes that his courage in this regard actually makes him an effective warrior, as it means he'll keep fighting even when victory seems implausible. A prime example of this comes in the finale, when he rams Lio-Carrier into Neo Deark to get on board it, which is so unexpected it actually ends up working.
  • Playing with Fire: His element is fire.
  • Rookie Red Ranger: While the rest of his team are battle hardened soldiers coming from a Bad Future, Takuto enjoyed a carefree life in the present, without any training to fight whatsoever. But this does not stop him from being one of the more effective fighters of the team.
    Ad

Ado/Eagle-Sazer

Portrayed by: Gaku Shindo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ad_ep1.jpg
A stoic warrior from the year 2500. Because he was born on the planet of Biyodo, he is raised to live without emotion, which causes him to clash with the rather emotional Takuto, at first.
  • Blow You Away: His element is wind.
  • Character Development: Over the course of the series, and through his experiences with Takuto, Ad becomes less coldly pragmatic and more willing to open up. In the Final Battle he even displays some of Takuto's reckless behavior, ramming into the Dark Alumer in order to shut it off.
  • Heroic BSoD: He doesn't take learning that his people are the ones who drove the Descal off Earth and kickstarted the whole conflict very well...
  • The Lancer: His lack of emotion contrasts with Takuto's very emotional personality.
  • Noble Bird of Prey: The eagle-themed Sazer.
  • Overly Long Name: "Ad" is just an abbreviation of his true name, which is too long to be spelled in full.
  • Pragmatic Hero: He dislikes Takuto's impulsiveness, but as he's a member of Sazer-X and an effective warrior he puts up with it and helps him out so they can work together to stop Descal.
  • Proud Warrior Race Guy: Ad's people are a warrior race renowned as leaders by the other planets in the universe. This naturally makes him come off as a bit abrasive to Takuto when they first meet.
  • The Spock: Was raised to live without emotion, and is very pragmatic and logical as a result.
  • Supporting Leader: Although Takuto is the main hero and Shark is the actual leader of Sazer-X, since Shark starts the series off away from the team, it's Ad who leads Sazer-X until Shark arrives in person.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: His stoic, brooding personality and handsome facial features make him very appealing to Yui.
    Kane Lucano

Kane Lucano/Beetle-Sazer

Portrayed by: Ryosuke Miura

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kane_lucano_ep1.jpg
The goofy kind-hearted member of the group. Kane likes to take things easy, but, like he describes himself, pulls through when the situation calls for it.
  • Break the Cutie: Having his family and home planet threatened by Grouza and being blackmailed into betraying his comrades was enough to send him into a bit of a breakdown.
  • The Kirk: He's very friendly and empathetic, but isn't nearly as hot-blooded as Takuto nor is he stoic and pragmatic like Ad is.
  • Nice Guy: Friendly and pleasant to everyone he meets.
  • Shock and Awe: His element is lightning.
  • The Smart Guy: Sazer-X's mechanic and technical genius.
    Commander Shark

Commander Shark/Shark-Sazer

Portrayed by: Hiroshi Matsunaga

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/commander_shark_ep15.jpg
The leader of Sazer-X and the one who selected Ad, Kane, Remy and their crews to go back in time. He later follows them to 2005 to assist them in their battle against Descal.
  • The Ace: A charismatic leader, skilled tactician and exceptional fighter.
  • Ambiguously Related: Him being half-space pirate and disappearing when Descal's invasion is stopped would indicate he's related to one of the three Shoguns, but we never learn which one it is. It may be Aqual since he's a water elemental.
  • Big Good: He formed Sazer-X and is the one heading their campaign to stop Neo Descal.
  • Create Your Own Villain: Him not including Jackall in his plans to rebel against Neo Descal is what led to Jackall becoming one of his worst enemies.
  • Face Death with Dignity: He's well aware that his actions will cause him to cease to exist once Neo Descal is gone. When that time finally comes, he calmly bids Sazer-X farewell and, although he clearly struggles to say goodbye to Remy, does everything he can to keep a straight face as he fades away.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: He's actually the child of a human and a space pirate.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He was a member of Neo Descal until he turned against them before the series began.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Chooses to work to undo Neo Descal's rise, even though doing so would erase him from existence, in order to stop the terror they inflict in the future.
  • The Mentor: To the Sazer-X, having assembled all of them and frequently giving guidance to them.
  • Parental Substitute: Even though he's not Remy's biological father, he still thinks of her as his daughter.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Although stern, Shark trusts fully in his subordinates and sees the strengths their eccentricities.
  • Rebel Leader: Leader of the Sazer-X resistance against Neo Descal.
  • Ret-Gone: After Takuto wishes for Descal to have never conquered Earth, Shark disappears since Neo Descal was stopped from rising.
  • Sixth Ranger: He's technically a part of the team from the very first episode, but gets separated from his men after they make it through the wormhole. He later makes it through and joins up with them again at the start of the second arc. and part-pirate.
  • The Stoic: He always keeps a stoic expression and just about never flinches. The closest he gets to slipping is when he's saying goodbye to Remy right before he fades away and is clearly struggling to hold it all in.
  • Supporting Leader: Leads Sazer-X, but Takuto is The Hero while he plays the role of The Mentor.

Sazer-X Support Crew

    Remy Freede

Remy Freede

Portrayed by: Mami Matsuyama

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/remy_freede_ep1.jpg
Takuto's support technician.
  • Deuteragonist: Despite not being one of the main members of Sazer-X, she gets the second most amount of focus after Takuto and has an arc that runs directly alongside his.
  • Expy: Of Tomoko Uesugi from Dennou Keisatsu Cybercop, both being non-transforming female members of mostly male Henshin Hero teams.
  • The Heart: Takuto's mindful and sensible crewmate.
  • Mysterious Past: Who she truly is or where she came from before Shark brought her to Planet Roue as a child isn't known for most of the series. It turns out she's actually an orphaned human girl who fell ill, and who Shark brought to the future to save.
  • Non-Action Guy: Downplayed. She can't participate in on-the-ground fights since she's too frail to transform, but she's still capable of piloting Core Caliber and taking part in mecha fights.
    Gordo

Gordo/Sazer Gordo

Portrayed by: Robert Baldwin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gordo_ep23.jpg
Ad's crewmate and support technician.
  • The Big Guy: Whenever he joins the fight as "Sazer Gordo", he uses brute force attacks.
  • Heavy Sleeper: Apparently sleeps for 16 hours a day, though he can quickly snap out of his naps when he's needed.
  • Henpecked Husband: Even he lives in fear of his wife.
  • Manly Facial Hair: He's a tough bruiser with a hefty beard.
  • Token Minority: A white American among an all-Japanese team.
    Ein and Zwein

Twinsazers Ein and Zwein

Portrayed by: Makoto Yasumura (Ein, voice), Hiromi Otsuda (voice)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ein_and_zwein_ep4.jpg
Two Energy Being aliens inhabiting robotic suits who serve as Kane's support crew.
  • Brother–Sister Team: They're brother and sister, and work together to support Kane.
  • Energy Being: They're really beings of energy, whose true forms vaguely resemble red and blue silhouettes of people.
  • Unrobotic Reveal: They seem like robots at first... until they take off their suits to take a shower.

Allies

    Sojiro Ando

Sojiro Ando

Portrayed by: Katsumi Munakata, Ryosuke Takahashi (young)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sojiro_ando_ep1.jpg
Click here to see Sojiro when he was younger.
The grandfather of Takuto, he was told of Descal's invasion in the year 2005 by Commander Shark and sought to prepare his grandson to fight them when they arrived.
  • Cool Old Guy: He's strict, but he's a genius mechanic and often gives out good advice.
  • Generation Xerox: He was just as hot-blooded as Takuto when he was younger.
  • Identical Grandson: He looked the same at 18 years as Takuto did.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Actually attempts to subvert this. When he sees Takuto has become obsessed with pleasing him, he tells Takuto to hit him, in order to prove he's just an old man and not some great obstacle he needs to surmount.
    Yui Ando

Yui Ando

Portrayed by: Nanako Hirata

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yui_ando_ep8.jpg
Takuto's school-age younger sister.
    Thundera

Lightning Shogun Thundera

Portrayed by: Masayo Kurata (voice)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/thundera_ep24.jpg
The last of the Shoguns, she comes from the underground in the hopes of finding her destined lover on the surface.
  • Actual Pacifist: Hates fighting of any kind.
  • Cute Monster Girl: She's a shogun, but she has a cutesy appearance and speaks with a soft voice.
  • Despair Event Horizon: It's theorized by Commander Shark that in the original timeline the reason she wasn't recorded in history is because she returned to the underground when Descal conquered Earth and the fighting didn't stop.
  • The Lost Lenore: Blaird never really gets over her after she returns to the underground.
  • Minor Major Character: She only appears for two episodes, but she's one of the most important characters in Sazer-X's lore and leaves a lasting impression on the series after her appearance.
  • Shock and Awe: The lightning-themed shogun.
    Patora

Patora

Portrayed by: Chinami Ishizaka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/patora_ep27.jpg
Sazer-X's scout, and Gordo's hyperactive wife. She hitches a ride on King Neo Descals ship when it appears from the future.
  • Badass Normal: She lacks any of the special powers or weapons the other heroes have, but this doesn't prevent her from fighting her enemies.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: She's a hyperactive womanchild but, she is a legitimately competent scout who can sneak aboard just about anything.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Like Takuto in the early episodes, Patora has a tendency to blindly charge towards her enemies. This actually causes Takuto to reflect on how much he has changed during the series.
  • Womanchild: Behaves a lot like a bratty kindergartener, shouting loudly whenever she gets mad and sticking her tongue out at thing she doesn't like.

Space Pirate Fleet Descal

    In General
A group of Space Pirates out to claim the Cosmo-Capsules and conquer Earth.
  • Aliens Are Bastards: They're aliens who've come to invade Earth. In a twist however, it turns out they're actually descended from the original inhabitants of Earth, who worshipped the Cosmo-Capsules until they were forced to flee the planet by an attack from the Biyodo aliens.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: They succeeded in gathering the Cosmo-Capsules and conquering Earth in the original timeline. It's up to Sazer-X to undo it.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: The Hades Army in Genseishin Justiriser were a massive army seeking to destroy Earth and conquer the universe. The Descal are a much more rag tag group with limited resources whose goals are to take over Earth and don't extend beyond that. The commanders of the Hades Army were serious and threatening, while Descal's Three Shoguns are less competent and more prone to goofy moments.
  • Offscreen Villain Dark Matter: Averted. When Descal come to Earth they're operating on limited resources. They have just three kaiju, a handful of human-sized monsters and have to recycle the grunts from Chouseishin Gransazer. Once they lose all three of their Kaiju, they're forced to find ways to make more.
  • Predecessor Villain: To the actual main villains - the Neo Descal.
  • Space Pirates: Alien pirates come to plunder Earth for its Cosmo-Capsules.
    Captain Barder

Captain Barder

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/captain_barder_ep9.jpg
The leader of the Descal fleet.
  • The Captain: Captain of the Balgareon ship which serves as the Descal's base.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: He's the Big Bad initially, as the one who led Descal to attack Earth. He gets revealed to be a robot and shorts-circuits just 10 episodes in, while his ship is destroyed soon after by the Sazer-X.
  • No One Sees the Boss: Keeps his true appearance hidden behind a veil.
  • Non-Action Big Bad: He's the leader of Descal, but he can't be arsed to do anything other than give orders and leaves both the planning and heavy-lifting up to the Three Shoguns.
  • Robotic Reveal: Revealed to be a robot after lighting strikes his ship.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He spends most of his screen time doing nothing but sitting and is dead before the heroes can confront him, but he's the one who ordered Descal to invade Earth and set off the entire plot. If not for him, Descal would have never taken over Earth, Neo Descal would have never emerged and Sazer-X would have never traveled back in time. To punctuate this, when he dies it doesn't change the timeline at all.
    Gig Fighters
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gig_fighters_sazer_x_ep7.jpg
Descal's footsoldiers, borrowed from the Warp Monarch.
  • Mook Carryover: They were originally used by the Warp Monarch, but the Descal have somehow gotten ahold of the devices to summon them.
  • Mooks: Back again to serve as disposable grunts.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: The fact that Descal can use them implies that they're only loyal to whoever spawns them.

The Three Shoguns

    In General
A trio of pirates from the present time. In the original timeline, they succeeded in conquering the earth, as earth had no defenses against their superior technology. But after Sazer X arrives in the present, the Three Shogun prove to be rather inept at taking over earth.
  • Bumbling Henchmen Duo: Aqual and Cyclead become this after they join up with Neo Descal and Blaird leaves. They aren't very useful, and mostly do nothing except fumble around and provide comic relief.
  • Co-Dragons: They're Captain Barder's lieutenants and enforcers.
  • Dragon-in-Chief: To Captain Barder. Although the Three Shoguns aren't very competent themselves, in the first arc they are the ones who plan out all of Descal's operation and lead the attacks, while Barder just sits on his chair and occasionally gives orders.
  • 11th-Hour Ranger: Formally join Sazer X near the final battle.
  • Freudian Trio: Blaird is the fiery Id, Aqual is the more moderate but still devious Ego and Cyclead is the pragmatic and intellectual Superego.
  • Goldfish Poop Gang: They very quickly devolve into being more of a nuisance than a threat to Sazer-X.
  • Laughably Evil: They provide much of the comedy in the series with their squabbling and ineptitude.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: An inversion. Although they were able to conquer Earth in the past, it's clear that was only because they didn't have any opposition. When Sazer-X travels to the past, they very quickly lose most of their resources and start suffering defeats.
  • Quirky Miniboss Squad: Stronger than the average Descal pirate, and Laughably Evil recurring villains who Sazer-X must periodically fight. Unusual for the trope, they're also some of the most important characters in the story.
  • Terrible Trio: In the first arc, they really fit this trope, in being a trio of inept villains. Subverted when after their much more evil and effective descendants from the future arrive, they break up due to a difference in opinion and do not return to being a villainous trio. By the time they do reunite, they already pulled a full Heel–Face Turn.
    Blaird

Blaird

Portrayed by: Kentarō Itō (voice)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blaird_ep1.jpg
The hotheaded fire-themed member of the trio. Because of his similarities to Takuto, he forms a one-sided rivalry with him, which later turns into a grudging friendship.
  • Accidental Misnaming: He falls victim to this a lot to the point it becomes a Running Gag. Examples include Blender, Bourré and Bracelet.
  • Big Damn Heroes: After he inherits Drill-Angler from Jackall, he uses it bail Sazer-X out several times.
  • Bound and Gagged: Has this happening to him so many times it becomes a Running Gag. He even comments on the frequency of this trope when it happens for the sixth time.
  • The Brute: He's the strongest of the Three Shoguns, with a hotheaded and aggressive personality to match.
  • Character Development: He starts out as the stereotypical hotheaded brutish villain, but after he is captured by Sazer X and held prisoner at the Andou household, he gradually gets more calmer and wiser to the point of even giving Takuto a lecture about how he needs to appreciate his family.
  • Cute Little Fangs: He has a pair of small fangs sticking out of his mouth. He may not be cute in the traditional sense, but his antics and determination certainly make him endearing.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Takuto. Both are Hot-Blooded, have the fire element and have similar motivations.
  • Friendly Enemy: He eventually becomes this with Takuto, after growing to respect him and seeing how similar the both of them are. He transitions into being friendly rivals with Takuto after fully turning good.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: First he's part of the Descal, then the Neo Descal, then he gets irritated with the Neo Descal and temporarily allies with Takuto, then he goes rogue, then he throws his lot in with Jackall and finally he turns good.
  • Heel–Face Turn: The first of the Shogun trio to do so. After his captain is revealed to be fake, Blaird starts to doubt his cause as a pirate. He really makes the turn when he dislikes the deceitful tactics his future descendants use, being an honorable warrior himself.
  • Horns of Villainy: The two largest fire strands on his head curve to resemble horns.
  • Hot-Blooded: Like Takuto, he's extremely fiery and hot-tempered.
  • The Leader: Becomes this for the Three Shoguns at the end. Aqual and Cyclead don't have much of a problem following him.
  • Make My Monster Grow: In episode 12 he gets grown and transformed into a Kaiju after Grouza shows the Shoguns how to use the Cosmo Capsules to enlarge things (and after he loses a game of rock paper scissors against the other Shoguns).
  • Noble Demon: He wants to defeat his enemies in fair combat and really dislikes cowardly tactics. When he has the perfect opportunity to kill an unaware Takuto, he refuses to take it, proclaiming his pride would not allow it. When his less than honorable descendants appear, he dislikes them so much, he pulls an Enemy Mine with Sazer X. This sets in motion his eventual Heel–Face Turn
  • Playing with Fire: His entire design resembles some kind of fire elemental, so it would be weird for him not to use this trope. Especially in a series where every fighter uses an element.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Freely admits to Takuto that he bears no ill will against the Earth and is only invading because his captain ordered him to.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: After getting captured and spending time in the Ando household, he takes a strong liking to the natto Takuto's mom makes.
  • Tritagonist: He may be The Brute, but he gets the third amount of focus after Takuto and Remy and a substantial amount of character growth.
  • Unknown Rival: Sees himself as Takuto's arch-rival. Takuto can't even remember his name.
    Aqual

Aqual

Portrayed by: Yuu Asakawa (voice)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aqual_ep3.jpg
The water-based female member. She likes to use underhanded tactics and can be rather vain.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Seems convinced she's a fearsome war-lady fated to rule the Earth, and is the most gung-ho about the Descal's mission out of all the Three Shoguns. While certainly is more cruel than either of her fellow Shoguns, her ego makes her easy to manipulate and she finds herself subordinated by the Neo Descal when they arrive, even though they're her descendants.
  • Fake Defector: An inversion. Not long after Neo Descal and Barreda arrive, she gets tired of the invasion and wants to leave, but when Takuto and Blaird try to help her she gets caught in the act and pretends to have been this.
  • Making a Splash: Her element is water.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: After getting repeatedly demeaned, humiliated and finally demoted to being Garade's cook, Aqual has enough and starts plotting against Grouza and Garade.
  • More Deadly Than the Male: Downplayed. She's far from the most evil character in the show, but she's still more vicious and ruthless than the fiery but honorable Blaird and meek and pragmatic Cyclead.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Garade would have crushed Sazer-X in episode 27 if Aqual hadn't ambushed him from behind.
  • Pirate Girl: The lady commander of a group of space pirates.
  • Smug Snake: Has a high opinion of herself, to the point where one can manipulate her fairly easily by feeding her ego.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Grouza sways her into staying with Neo Descal by offering her praise and claiming she sees her as a fellow genius. Later on, when King Neo Descal and Barreda show up, they use her and Cyclead to pester Sazer-X and keep them distracted from their real plan.
    Cyclead

Cyclead

Portrayed by: Daisuke Kishio (voice)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cyclead_ep2.jpg
An absent-minded scientist with the element of wind. He comes up with inventions to fight Sazer X, but is the first of the three who wants to stop fighting.
  • Affably Evil: He may be a pirate, but he's a friendly guy who cares for his fellow Shoguns.
  • Beard of Evil: Ironically, even though he's the least evil of the Three Shoguns he's the only one with villainous-looking facial hair, having a pointed moustache and a goatee.
  • Brainwashed: Neo Descal brainwashes him to have a more aggressive personality.
  • Blow You Away: His element is wind.
  • Evil Genius: He's an intelligent inventor and responsible for building quite a few of the devices Descal uses. Even Garade and Grouza are impressed by his inventions. He's also clearly the sanest of the Three Shoguns.
  • Hat of Authority: He's one of three commanders of a group of Space Pirates and wears what looks like a bicorn admiral hat.
  • The Heavy: For the third arc, after King Neo Descal brainwashes him and has him periodically send monsters to attack Sazer-X to keep them busy.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After being freed from his brainwashing, he is quick to join the good guys.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: His fellow Shoguns aren't model minions by any means, but of the three of them Cyclead has the least will to go through with their invasion of Earth, particularly after they lose their ship, and would much rather just return to space.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: He's the one who got lightning to strike Balgareon, killing Captain Barder.
  • Only Sane Man: Part of why he's smartest out of the Three Shoguns is because he's tends to be the most rational and reasonable one.
  • Puppet King: After King Neo Descal and Barreda arrive from the future, they brainwash Cyclead and set him up as their figurehead.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: His eyes glow red after Neo Descal brainwashes him.

Monsters

Portrayed by: Fumito Minamitsuji (suit actor)

Lightning Pirate Raideg

A lightning elemental space pirate sent to retrieve the Wolf-5 Cosmo Capsule.

Water Pirate Agurag

A water elemental pirate sent to retrieve the Swan-6 Cosmo Capsule.

A wind elemental pirate sent to retrieve the Whale-12 Cosmo Capsule.

Fire Pirate Bankein

Voiced by: Naoki Ogura

The strongest of the elemental pirates under the Three Shoguns.
  • Fake Ultimate Mook: Introduced as the Descal's "trump card", only to go down rather easily against Sazer-X once they figure out how to get around his abilities, prompting the Three Shoguns to hightail it out of there.
  • Playing with Fire: As his title suggests his attacks are fire-based.
    Space Terror Beasts

Portrayed by: Shinya Iwasaki (suit actor)

A trio of kaiju brought along by the Descal for their invasion of Earth. Later on, Cyclead begins creating Synthetic Terror Beasts from creatures he finds on Earth.

Space Terror Beast Reizaus

A dragon-like Space Terror Beast.

Space Terror Beast Winmirror

An insectoid Space Terror Beast.

Space Terror Beast Bardress

A lizard-like Space Terror Beast.
  • Not Zilla: Resembles Godzilla in a helmet and chest armor.

Synthetic Terror Beast Big Stag

The first of the Synthetic Terror Beasts created by Cyclead after the Descal lost all three of their Space Terror Beasts.

Synthetic Terror Beast Graptor

The second of the Synthetic Terror Beasts, created by Cyclead from a bird fossil.

Future Space Pirate Fleet Neo Descal

    In General
The descendants of the Descal fleet after they took over the Earth, they form a powerful, expansionist regime which keeps an iron grip on Earth and seeks to conquer the rest of the universe.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: The Daruga Imperial Army in Genseishin Justiriser were an ancient alien empire of which the Hades Army was a sub-faction. Neo Descal on the other hand come from hundreds of years in the future and are descended from the Descal.
  • Dark Is Evil: They're heavily associated with darkness. Earth under their rule is a dark and desolate place, and they take over other planets by engulfing them in darkness.
  • The Empire: They've conquered planets all across the cosmos in their campaign for universal domination.
  • Evil Wears Black: Their members all like wearing black items of some sort. King Neo Descal and Garade both have black cloaks, Grouza wears black underclothes, Jackall wears a black leather jacket and Barreda wears a black corset and leather jacket.
  • Galactic Superpower: They're the dominant superpower in space in their era, where most planets are under their control and most of the remaining ones have had to form an alliance to oppose them.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Neo Descal executives seem to come in pairs of one tall and imposing man, and one smaller and sleeker woman. As seen with the duos of Garade and Grouza and King Neo Descal and Barreda.
  • One World Order: They control the entire Earth by 2500.
  • Standard Evil Organization Squad: Neo Descal has their own roster of executives who command their forces.
  • Superior Successor: Their Descal ancestors were a group of rag-tag Space Pirates who only conquered Earth because they didn't have any opposition. Neo Descal on the other hand is a galactic empire with fleets of powerful starships and a domain that spans far beyond Earth.
    Deathmeid
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/deathmeid_ep15.jpg
The footsoldiers of Neo Descal. Their similarities to the Gig Fighters imply they're newer, more advanced models of them.
  • Evil Evolves: A Deathmeid is three times as powerful as its Gig Fighter predecessor.
  • Mecha-Mooks: Like the Gig Fighters before them, they're fully mechanical footsoldiers.
  • Replacement Mooks: Replace the Gig Fighters as the Mooks of the series once Neo Descal arrives.
  • Robot Soldier: Robots used by the Neo Descal as combatants.

Galeo Rogue Crew

    Garade

Garade

Portrayed by: Issei Futamata (voice)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/garade_ep22.jpg
A Neo Descal commander who heads their special forces. He travels back in time to defeat Sazer-X and ensure history goes as planned.
  • All-Encompassing Mantle: Wears a black cloak that covers his body from the shoulders down.
  • Ambiguously Related: It's never revealed which of the Three Shoguns he's descended from, though it's likely not Blaird since he wasn't ret goned when Blaird and Thundera didn't become lovers like in the original timeline.
  • Ambiguous Robot: He looks like a robot, but the fact that he can eat and is apparently descended from one of the Three Shoguns call this into doubt.
  • Antagonistic Offspring: Views the Three Shoguns with disdain and doesn't even believe he's descended from them at first.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: He's a commander in the Neo Descal fleet and the strongest Neo Descal member we see at the time of his debut.
  • Berserk Button: He has a short fuse when it comes to a lot of things, but incompetent underlings and insubordination are his main ones.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Whereas Kaiser Hades was an alien Evil Overlord who was sealed away hundreds of years ago, Garade is a robotic military commander from the future. Hades sought to destroy Earth, while Garade wants to conquer it and needs it intact in order for the future to stay the same.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: After his arrival he becomes the Big Bad, as the one heading the force sent to defeat Sazer-X and keep history on track. At least until King Neo Descal appears and punishes him for his failures.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Speaks with a guttural voice.
  • Frontline General: In episode 23, he decides to start helming operations himself as Grouza is injured and Aqual and Cyclead are too incompetent to be of use.
  • Large and in Charge: He's a Neo Descal fleet commander and he towers over all of his subordinates.
  • Me's a Crowd: One of his attacks is splitting himself into three.
  • Pet the Dog: In episode 24 he gives Cyclead a compliment when he sees the dinner he prepared for him. Quite a departure from his usual attitude towards the Shoguns.
  • Psycho Electro: He isn't electricity-themed, but when Sazer-X doesn't give the Cosmo-Capsules to him in exchange for their captains, he decides to torture them to death by shocking them with electricity so it will be extra painful.
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: The top end of his staff can be used as a spear, while the bottom end also functions as the barrel of a rifle.
    Grouza

Grouza

Portrayed by: Mizuho Ishikawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grouza_ep19.jpg
A scientist for Neo Descal and the first of their members to travel to the past.
  • The Baroness: An icy, domineering and ruthless Neo Descal executive.
  • Dark Action Girl: Although a scientist, she's capable of taking to the field and fighting when needed.
  • The Dragon: To Garade, as his right-hand woman, enforcer and main advisor.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Her: For such a significant antagonist, she's defeated on accident by Takuto when he stops Blaird and Thundrea from meeting.
  • Evil Genius: A genius scientist, gifted strategist and skilled interpersonal manipulator.
  • Faux Affably Evil: She's good at putting up a polite front, but beneath that she's a cold and ruthless woman who uses her seeming affability to manipulate others.
  • The Heavy: From the moment she appears, Grouza is the one who causes the biggest upheavals in the plot and is the one who leads the majority of the attempts to defeat Sazer-X after the start of the second arc.
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: To Garade. While he's the commander of their forces, Grouza is much more pragmatic than he is and the one who plans out most of their strategies.
  • Irony: It turns out that the Shoguns she's descended from are Blaird, who's dumb and hot-headed personality is quite the opposite of her cold and intelligent one, and Thundera, who she dismissed as unimportant since she wasn't in any history books.
  • Kick the Dog: One of the first thing she does when she arrives in the past is force Remy to watch as her home planet is destroyed.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Her arrival marks the point where the series becomes more serious.
  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: Wears a white, zip-up coat and is a scientist.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Very good at playing on others' emotions to manipulate them and is particularly ruthless about it too. An example being her blackmail of Kane.
  • Ret-Gone: Disappears after Thundera returns underground, preventing her from getting together with Blaird and forming the bloodline that she was born from.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: She stops wearing her white coat while she's recovering from a gunshot wound, instead wearing only a skintight black suit that leaves her upper chest and shoulders exposed.
    Jackall

Jackall

Portrayed by: Kunihiro Kojima

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jackall_ep17.jpg
Click here to see him transformed.
The former brother-in-arms of Commander Shark. When Shark defected from Neo Descal he chose not to take Jackall with him, as he didn't want to make his comrade a target for Neo Descal as well. Jackall however saw this as a betrayal and vowed revenge.
  • Anti-Climax: Jackall's final mecha battle with Commander Shark ends with him dying midway through of wounds he suffered previously, as a result of him refusing to let go of his vendetta against Shark even for a moment.
  • The Brute: He's an almost literal Neo Descal attack dog who usually fights in close quarters. Even his mecha, Drill Angler, uses brute force attacks.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: To Demon Knight, the Evil Counterpart from Justirisers. Both Jackall and Demon Knight have past relations with the mentor of the protagonists, but while Demon Knight was originally a hero who was brainwashed into becoming a villain, Jackall was Shark's comrade-in-arms while both of them were villains, staying with Neo Descal while Shark chose to defect. And unlike Demon Knight, who eventually did turn good, Jackall stays a villain and dies with his hatred.
  • The Determinator: Never ever stops trying to get revenge on Shark. Even when he's severely wounded he still tries to pilot Drill Angler to have one last battle against him. Deconstructed though as no matter how determined he is, he isn't able to fight off his injuries and passes away before he finish the battle.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: He works under Garade, but only so he can fight Shark, and disobeys orders whenever they don't lead him to that goal.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Saw Shark leaving him behind as a betrayal and is determined to exact revenge.
  • Evil Counterpart: To all of Sazer-X, but in particular Shark. Both he and Shark are themed after predators and pilot their own personalized mecha, but Jackall is what Shark would be if he stayed with Neo Descal.
  • Shadow Archetype: He's what Blaird would be if he never let go of his grudge against Takuto. His death is what convinces Blaird to give up his rivalry with the lion Sazer.
  • Skeletons in the Coat Closet: In contrast to the heroic Sazers, the head of his transformed state is modeled after the skull of his animal, in this case the jackal.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: He wants to be the one kill Shark, in order to settle his vendetta against him.
  • Villain Respect: Begins to respect Blaird after he manages to land a hit on him in battle, something only Shark was able to do before.
  • Wild Card: Even though he's technically aligned with Neo Descal, his only real loyalty is to his goal of defeating Shark.

Neo Deark Crew

    King Neo Descal

King Neo Descal/Black-Lio

Portrayed by: Eizo Tsuda (voice)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/king_neo_descal_ep33.jpg
The ruler of Neo Descal.
  • Antagonistic Offspring: He only keeps Cyclead safe to ensure his own existence. Not long after he arrives, he brainwashes Cyclead to keep him compliant.
  • Assimilation Plot: His ultimate goal has shades of this if he was being literal when he said "the universe will become one."
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: He's the leader of Neo Descal and by far and away the most powerful among them.
  • Bad Boss: Kills Garade upon his arrival and later kills his right-hand woman Barreda when she is of no more use to him.
  • Big Bad: He's the one behind everything. His galactic conquest is what led to Sazer-X traveling back in time, he sent Garade and Grouza back in time to ensure the timeline stays the same, and he eventually arrives in the past himself to personally ensure history stays with Neo Descal on the rise.
  • Bright Is Not Good: Bright gold isn't the color you would usually associate with an evil dictator obsessed with darkness.
  • Cane Fu: Zig-zagged. He carries a cane around, and though he mostly prefers to fight by shooting electricity at people, he is capable of using it as a weapon.
  • The Chessmaster: Uses Cyclead to keep Sazer-X busy while he and Barreda advance their true goals in secret.
  • Crazy-Prepared: He built an entire fake Dark-Alumer to throw Sazer-X off.
  • Deader than Dead: His physical form as Dark Geran is obliterated by Great-Lio (piloted by Remy, Gordo, Patora, Ein, Zwein, Aqual and Cyclead) while simultaneously his consciousness is destroyed by a combined attack from Lio-Sazer, Eagle-Sazer, Beetle-Sazer and Blaird. He's then erased from ever having existed when Takuto wishes with the Cosmo-Capsules that Descal never took over Earth.
  • Evil Counterpart: After obtaining the Lion-1 Capsule, he uses it to transform into a dark variant of Lio-Sazer called "Black-Lio".
  • Faux Affably Evil: When he first arrives from the future he feigns respect for Aqual and Cyclead and pledges his assistance to them, but he's really just manipulating them to use them as pawns.
  • Final Boss: Since the Chouseishin series ended after Sazer-X, he's technically the last villain any Sei Shin heroes faced.
  • Galactic Conqueror: He's out to conquer the universe, and he's already got plenty of planets under him by the time Sazer-X travels back to the past.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: Wears gold-plated armor and is the absolute ruler of Neo Descal.
  • Knight Templar: Claims he wants to bring peace to the universe by using the darkness to wipe away all individuality so there will be no differences and therefore no fighting. Even if he's being truthful, his method of doing involves subjugating entire planets and massacring presumably millions of people in order to force his will onto them.
  • Large and in Charge: He's seemingly not as tall as Garade, but he still has large bulky frame that dwarfs everyone else in the cast. His flagship, Neo Deark, is also bigger than any of the other ships in Neo Descal's fleet.
  • Lord Country: Named himself after the empire he rules.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: Takuto believes he's one. When he tells Takuto his true goals, Takuto responds that all he wants to do is make everyone into himself.
  • One-Winged Angel: Twofold. He merges with Dark Geran's remains to revive it, and later transforms into Black Lion for a one-on-one battle against Lio-Sazer.
  • Psycho Electro: He can shoot lighting from his hands in a way reminiscent of a Sith Lord, as he demonstrates when he uses it to torture Aqual.
  • Tin Tyrant: Clad in a golden set of imposing armor.
    Barreda

Barreda

Portrayed by: Masa Sato

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/barreda_ep33.jpg
King Neo Descal's right-hand woman.
  • Ambiguously Related: While she and King Neo Descal are both descended from Cyclead, it's never stated how the two of them are related. They could be siblings, cousins, niece and uncle or anything else. Barreda's intimacy with him implies they're close though.
  • An Ice Person: Can freeze people with her ice breath.
  • Dark Action Girl: She's capable of taking on and defeating both Takuto and Blaird at once.
  • Designated Girl Fight: She finds other characters beforehand, but during the Final Battle she finds herself fighting Remy.
  • The Dragon: She is King Neo Descal's second-in-command and head enforcer.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: She seems quite loving towards King Neo Descal and gets close to him in several scenes.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: She's a skilled fighter clad in a black leather suit.
  • Pirate Girl: She's a high-ranking Neo Descal space pirate, and even wields a sword that looks like a futuristic cutlass.
  • Satellite Character: Her role can mostly be summed up as being King Neo Descal's main helper.
    Dark Geran

Darkness Beast Dark Geran

Portrayed by: Shinya Iwasaki (suit actor)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dark_geran_ep36.jpg
A powerful Future Terror Beast sent to Earth by King Neo Descal for the final stage of his plan.
  • Casting a Shadow: Has all sorts of shadow-themed powers, including the ability to corrode things with darkness.
  • Expy: It being a dragon-like kaiju that appears in the endgame calls to mind Cabryon.
  • The Juggernaut: Almost none of the Ryuuseishin's attacks do anything to slow it down, and the ones that do only stall it for a second before it shakes them off.
  • Make My Monster Grow: Exaggerated. It starts off giant, but when King Neo Descal merges with it it grows even bigger until it towers over all of the Ryuuseishin.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: It's basically a giant eldritch space dragon.

Monsters

An imperial guard assigned to bodyguard Cyclead while he's gathering pieces of destroyed Terror Beasts.

  • Spikes of Villainy: Several spikes adorn the top of his shell.

A monster designed by Cyclead to be the ultimate space pirate.

Devider

  • Me's a Crowd: Can rapidly create copies of itself. Defeating the original causes them all to disappear.
  • Punny Name: Devider is a play on "divider" and how he's able to divide himself into copies.

  • Hybrid Monster: It's comprised of pieces from all three Space Terror Beasts and both Synthetic Terror Beasts used by Descal.
