Allies

Otherworld

    Merlyn

Merlyn

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/merlyn_otherworld_from_infinity_countdown_black_widow_vol_1_1_001.jpg

Notable Aliases: Apostate, Black Knight, The Magus, Merlin, Merlin The Mad, Merlin The Murderer, Myrdh, Myraddin, Myrrdin, Sorcerer Supreme, Great Hierophant Merlin

Nationality: Otherworlder

Species: Human

First Appearance: Young Allies #11 (November, 1943)

Merlyn is the sorcerer supreme of the Otherworld and father to Roma. Currently, Merlyn is the Great Hierophant of the Holy Republic of Fae, one of the Foul Courts of Otherworld.

  • Adaptational Badass: While an extremely powerful mage, nowhere in the original Arthurian Legend was it indicated that Merlin transcended spacetime and was in charge of protecting the Omniverse.note
  • The Archmage: As is usual for any version of Merlin. In the Marvel Universe, he was even a past Sorcerer Supreme.
  • Big Bad: Emerges as this in Excalibur (2019) after the end of X of Swords when he begins to build a coalition amongst the provinces of Otherworld to drive mutantkind out and restore himself to power in the Starlight Citadel.
  • The Chessmaster: The 60 something issues of the original Excalibur run are part of a long and extremely intricate chess game going back eons to defeat his Evil Mentor Necrom, the Anti-Phoenix, and achieve ultimate power in the process.
  • The Chooser of the One: Along with Roma, he offered prospective Captains the choice between the Sword and the Amulet.
  • Death Is Cheap: Betsy cuts off his head at the end of Knights of X. She notes that Merlyn is too slippery for this to every truly stick, but for now, it will keep him out of the way so that those he manipulated can heal.
  • Demoted to Dragon: He's now below Saturnyne in Otherworld's hierarchy.
  • Faking the Dead: During the original Excalibur run, before revealing himself when Necrom re-emerged.
  • Fantastic Racism: Has developed this towards mutants, or as they are called in Otherworld, "witch-breed". Merlyn goes so far as to seek to drive all mutants out of Otherworld and kill all those that remain.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Ever since Excalibur it's been very hard to work out which side he's going to settle on - if only because Merlyn's only consistent moral alignment is in line with his own aims. As of 2021, on the 'Heel' side.
  • Industrial World: His Otherworld domain, the Holy Republic of Fae has become a wasteland of factories, iron towers and black-smog choked cities.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Is constantly scheming complicated gambits, and the Captains Britain are always caught up in his machinations.
  • My Nayme Is: Originally he was Merlin, but the Otherworld Saga started spelling his name as Merlyn and that version stuck for subsequent appearances.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Saturnyne explains that as a figure of legend, Merlyn will always be reborn after he dies, although he may not return with entirely the same personality and goals.
  • Shrouded in Myth: As is appropriate for Merlyn, his origins and much of his past are unknown and there are multiple contradictory stories about him.
  • Smug Snake: Wavers between this and The Chessmaster. While he's a brilliant schemer, he has more than once narrowly missed out on getting exactly what he wants, and he is extremely smug.
  • Trickster Mentor: When he's on the Face side, usually to Brian.
  • Tyrant Takes the Helm: At the end of Excalibur (2019) he successfully overthrows Saturnyne and takes the Starlight Citadel back for himself, instituting a new reign of terror over Otherworld.
  • Unexplained Recovery: He's died more than once - not counting when he was Faking the Dead.

    Lady Roma

Lady Roma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/roma_regina.jpg

Notable Aliases: Roma Regina, Lady of the Northern Skies

Nationality: Otherworlder

Species: Human

First Appearance: Captain Britain #1 (October, 1976)

Roma succeeded her father, Merlyn, as the Omniversal Guardian, ruler of the Multiverse. Her functions included supervising the Captain Britain Corps and ensuring the welfare of all creation - across all dimensions and alternate worlds. However, she eventually died and her position was, in turn, taken by Saturnyne. After returning to life, Roma became the ruler of the Floating Kingdom of Roma Regina, one of Otherworld's provincial Fair Courts.

  • Archnemesis Dad: It varies, but by Knights of X Merlyn and Roma have taken very different paths and find themselves opposed.
  • Create Your Own Villain: Roma did this by attempting to take back the Sword of Might after Bran Bardic (Albion) took it because the sword will lead the bearer to the path of violence and turn them into a ruthless Blood Knight. But Merlyn, Roma's father, intervenes and lets Albion keep it. Unfortunately, Albion is already offended by Roma's attempt to steal his powers, so he swore to destroy the Captain Britain Corps as revenge.
  • Death Is Cheap: She died during the events of Die by the Sword, but eventually came back.
  • Demoted to Dragon: She and Merlyn are now under Saturnyne in the Otherworld hierarchy.
  • Early Instalment Weirdness: The Otherworld Saga, one of her first appearances, portrays her as a swordswoman and warrior who helps to defend Camelot through physical force.
  • The Hedonist: After 2015, and during X of Swords, Roma was reintroduced as the regent of a portion of Otherworld. Her domain, the Floating Kingdom of the Fae, thrives on pleasure and hedonism. To hammer the point home, she is often accompanied by fauns and satyrs.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: As the current ruler of the Fae, she has now devoted herself to gentle hedonism and got the requisite Fanservice Pack upgrade. She's dropped the Pointy Ears and goofy topknot ponytail of the 1990s for something more human and a lot classier - going from a poorly drawn elf to a 1920s cinema star. She also ditched the mystical armour for a robe that plunges past her navel.
  • Puppet Queen: When she was Omniversal Majestrix she was forced to act as her father's puppet. In the fallout from the incursions, Roma struck a deal to let herself and Merlyn be destroyed by Saturnyne so that she could escape her father's control and be reborn as the independent leader of her own province in Otherworld.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Much like her father Roma is a "figure of legend" and can be reborn in Otherworld after dying, although she will not always return exactly as she was.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Her default height is 5'11"/180cm and she's not bad looking.
  • Unexplained Recovery: How she came back from the dead has never been explained. Given her father's propensity for doing the same, it's probably best just not to ask. An explanation is finally given in the final issue of Excalibur (2019), with Saturnyne revealing that figures of legend like Roma and Merlyn will be reborn eventually after dying.

    Saturnyne

Opal Luna Saturnyne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/opal_luna_saturnyne_xmen.jpg

Notable Aliases: Her Royal Whyness, The Omniversal Majestrix, White Witch

Nationality: English (Earth-9)

Species: Human

Debut: Marvel Super-Heroes (UK) #380 (December, 1981)

The Omniversal Majestrix of the Dimensional Development Court, Saturnyne is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the entire Omniverse with the aid of the Captain Britain Corps, although how she does so tends to be manipulative and ruthless.

  • Break the Haughty: Following the events of A Crooked World she is put on trial for failing in her duty to destroy one reality to protect others. When Captain Britain is brought to Otherworld to defend Saturnyne during her trial, he witnesses her bound in chains kneeling on the ground, fearing execution. Despite her manipulative and self-serving nature, she's in such a sorry state that it elicits pity from even Brian. A pity the fear and lessons she learned from that incident never stuck.
  • Death Is Cheap: During the events of "Time Runs Out", she was apparently killed by the Mapmakers.
  • Dirty Business: How she tends to justify her more extreme actions, as her job is to protect all of reality so sacrificing an alternate universe here or there to preserve the rest is justified in extreme cases.
  • Dirty Coward: In Captain Britain: A Crooked World, Saturnyne deserts Captain Britain on Earth-238 and leaves him to the Fury once she learns of the cause of the distorted world.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: As part of the aforementioned killing by the Mapmakers.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: During her first appearance in Excalibur, a pouting Meggan scowls that she does not know what Brian ever saw in her. Kitty, who is just as entranced by her beauty as Kurt is, admits that she very much can.
  • Evil Is Petty: Why did she give Arakko another point even though Wolverine won the fight? Payback for trying to kill her.
  • Good is Not Nice: She might be giving Krakoa the chance to fight back against Arakko, but she's still doing it to entertain herself.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: Her hair sometimes covers one of her eyes, which represents her manipulative and untrustworthy nature.
  • Jerkass: Even when she's technically on your side, she's an unpleasant bitch.
  • Light Is Not Good: Has blonde hair and dresses in white yet she's far from nice, or helpful.
  • Manipulative Bitch: She has been explicitly called one several times by even those who are supposed to be her closest allies.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: How the X of Swords Tournament ends for her. Her power as Majestrix of Otherworld is greater than ever, the Captain Britain Corps are revived and she faced no punishment for the way she treated all participants, but she failed to get what she wanted the most, Brian Braddock's love and loyalty, since he now distrusts her more than ever and now she's Lonely at the Top. Plus the Captain Britain corps used Betsy Braddock, who she hates, as a template instead of Brian.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: The X of Swords tournament seems to be dictated by her whims and the whims of her Tarot cards, giving points to Arakko or Krakoa arbitrarily. Since it's entirely for her amusement, this isn't entirely surprising.
  • Shoot the Dog: During Uncanny X-Men's tie-in to House of M, she was prepared to nuke the Marvel universe to stop Wanda's reality-warping. Jamie Braddock sabotaged her efforts.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Excalibur (2019) and X of Swords reveal that Saturnyne is now the completely uncontested ruler of Otherworld, with all the kingdoms within being her vassal states. This includes the realms ruled by Merlyn and Roma, who had previously been her superiors. This status also grants her powerful magic with which she can freeze entire armies in place.
  • Troll: Forcing Magik to fight Pogg Ur-Pogg at an arm-wrestling competition that lasts less than one second screams of this. In fact, most of the tournament - which includes eating contests and dance-offs - is her trolling both Krakoa and Arakko as hard as she can.

Other Allies

    Dai Thomas

    Black Knight

Dane Whitman / Black Knight

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/black_knight_8.jpg

Notable Aliases: D.W., Eobar Garrington, Gann Josin,, The Pendragon

Nationality: American

Species: Human

First Appearance: Avengers #47

    Meggan

Meggan Braddock (née Puceanu)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/745416_18_captain_britain_and_mi13_5.jpg

Notable Aliases: Gloriana, "Chicken", Goblin Princess, Mystique, Tapestry,

Nationality: English

Species: Human Mutant

First Appearance: Mighty World of Marvel (Vol. 2) #7 (December, 1983)

A shape-shifting mutant born in a Romanichal camp, Meggan's powers manifested at birth and frightened her people and led to her parents hiding her away. Remaining isolated from society as she grew older, she eventually encountered Brian Braddock and entered into a relationship with him, discovering the true nature of her abilities and growing to master them. The two eventually married and now have a young mutant daughter named Margaret. As a member of Excalibur Meggan grew close to many of the X-Men, including Kate Pryde, Nightcrawler, and Rachel Grey, who were all named Margaret's godparents.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Sweet as they come, but mess with her friends and you'll live to regret it. As the rulers of Hell have found out.
  • Character Development: She started out as a frightened young girl and gradually learned to take control of her powers and her life, Took a Level in Badass and gradually became a strong, confident woman. And then they killed her off. And then she became a rebel leader in Hell, took another level in badass, and is now Back from the Dead.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Very possessive of Brian, and most definitely does not like either Saturnine or Sat-Yr-9. This fades over time when it becomes clear that he's not interested in either of them.
  • Empathic Shapeshifter: The Trope Namer. She was explicitly described as an Empathic Shapeshifter and, indeed, she would look like what other people thought she should. This caused her quite a lot of angst as a kid, though she, fortunately, had other powers to back it up (and by other powers, we mean that she won the Superpower Lottery, big time) and could adapt to any environment bundled in. However, she managed to move past it as of the Captain Britain and MI-13 series.
  • Friend to All Children: Very friendly with kids, and is quite protective of them. More than likely because of her problems as a kid. It makes her an excellent mother, though she does tend to worry that her Brainy Baby daughter won't really need her.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Has an empathic link with nature, including plants, wildlife, weather patterns, and so on; sensitive to the pain and damage of those around her, and has extensive healing abilities among her wide arsenal of talents. When possible she will also offer compassion to technical antagonists who are not genuinely bad people, and for example, managed to talk Darkoth into seeing reason.
  • Gender Bender: The potential squick downside to the otherwise virtually perfect idealized girlfriend scenario, although she usually tends to dislike and avoid it.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: The Scarlet Witch's actions in House of M caused a hole in reality. Allowing the others to seal the gap, Meggan ventured into the void beyond and sacrificed herself to briefly slow the progress of the impacting chaotic energies to give Psylocke, Rachel, and Captain Britain time to sew the reality tear. When reality was restored, only a few remembered what had gone on during the House of M. Captain Britain and the others were among the many who didn't, having only vague memories of the ordeal and believing it to be a dream. As a result, Brian doesn't know about Meggan's sacrifice and has no idea where she is, leaving him in distress.
  • His Story Repeats Itself: For most of her childhood she was locked up in a caravan and then was kidnapped by an evil Government Conspiracy and put in a concentration camp. Later on, she stumbled upon a van full of mutant kids who had been kidnapped by a morally-ambiguous Government Conspiracy and, seeing the obvious parallels, she tried to free them. This led to her gaining control of her powers and all her subsequent Character Development.
  • Magical Girlfriend: Brian’s magical girlfriend.
  • Mama Bear: Meggan is a very nurturing sort, and only tends to "upstage" her husband if someone is in the process of hurting and overpowering him... whereupon she angrily takes them down in one punch, as a bullying other-dimensional copy of Hercules found out the hard way.
  • Martial Pacifist: Does not like to fight that much.
  • Messianic Archetype: Among other things she has resurrected a virtually dead planet, including bringing fallen warriors back to life, and created a small refuge paradise in one of Marvel's multitudes of eternal torture ovens.
  • Most Common Super Power: She’s quite busty with showing cleavage.
  • Never Learned to Read: Due to being kept isolated and hidden during her youth she was never properly educated and was illiterate for most of her life. She did learn as an adult, but still finds it difficult and has terrible handwriting.
  • Nice Girl: See her entries in Friend to All Living Things and Friend to All Children to get a clue on how nice she is.
  • No Social Skills: Her parents kept her hidden for her own safety. She had no contact with other human beings and they couldn't be there for her for much of the time, so she spent most of her childhood sitting in a caravan, watching TV. This makes her (in Captain Britain's words): "Unusual... And very excitable."
  • Not Quite Dead: Meggan is eventually revealed to still be alive, but lost between dimensions and trapped in Hell until she finally finds a crack through which moonlight is pouring through at the climax of the Vampire State storyline. Said crack was opened by Doctor Doom, in a mixture of wanting to both Pet the Dog and screw with Dracula.
  • Only One Name: Until very recently.
  • Pointy Ears: May or may not be her shapeshifting power.
  • Power Perversion Potential: Meggan is far too pure to ever use her power in an outright disgusting or degenerate fashion, although she isn't above experimenting with and modifying her appearance into one that Brian will find attractive, or to use it for undercover disguises together with Brian if the police need help. However, she has stated that she finds outright impersonations morally offensive, but will go along if others ask her to in a situation that sufficiently demands it.
  • Primal Polymorphs: When she first appears in Excalibur, she is happily swimming with porpoises, her face and body in a porpoise-like shape. Combine that with being kept isolated as a child for her own safety, which led her to develop No Social Skills and her always going barefoot.
  • Romani
  • She Is All Grown Up (Justified): She started off as a weird bat-like creature. As a result of gaining control of her shapeshifting powers, she transformed into a beautiful woman.
  • Superpower Lottery: She literally has almost any type of power that she knows a reference for, but is a kind and gentle person, who prefers to handle things in as a restrained manner as possible.
    • Adaptive Ability: Not just to the physical environment, either, but to the social one. She'll change shape to fit in with anyone whose presence she's in (including becoming a female Nightcrawler, complete with his powers).
    • The Empath: Actually causes a bit of a problem combined with the above; she can sense how people feel about her and that influences her shapeshifting- when she feels insecure, she becomes hideous.
    • Elemental Powers: all of the traditional four, presumably due to her empathy with nature. And, of course...
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Meggan is arguably the most powerful known metamorph in the Marvel Universe this side of The Magus. She can literally turn into pretty much anything. Sand, water, Godzilla... you name it. It also gives her more or less every superpower in existence up to and beyond Silver Surfer levels (but less than actual Cosmic Entities), either through automatic reactive evolution to hostile environments, or through copying any character she knows about, and she doesn't need to fully duplicate their form (nor shift gender) to do it. However, she is limited by how much magical power she has available in the environment.

    Courtney Ross

Courtney Ross

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5398315_image.jpeg

Notable Aliases: Ice Queen

Nationality: English

Species: Human

First Appearance: Captain Britain #3 (October, 1976)

The one-time girlfriend of Brian Braddock aka Captain Britain, though he went missing, they were reunited after she found out he was with Meggan.

  • Aborted Arc: Chris Claremont's third run on Uncanny X-Men and then New Excalibur had some kind of subplot suggesting Courtney might've come back from the dead, or was still Sat, or... er, something, but Claremont being Claremont, nothing concrete was ever said.
  • Amicable Exes: With Brian. It didn't hurt that they retained feelings for each other.
  • Badass Normal: Especially for a banker. Being Captain Britain's ex was good for her.
  • Canon Immigrant: From the Marvel UK line.
  • Deadpan Snarker: How she coped with life-or-death situations.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: Sat-Yr-9 pulls a Kill and Replace on her after the Murderworld fiasco.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: Not her death itself, but the final two-parter leading up to it has her taking on Murderworld, and handling herself extraordinarily well even before Excalibur shows up.
  • Kill and Replace: By her evil alternate universe counterpart, Sat-Yr-9. It does not pay to be the exact physical duplicate of a ruthless other-dimensional dictator.
  • Nice Girl: She was very likeable, despite her In-Universe reputation as an ice queen, being kind to Kitty in particular - which, unfortunately, laid the groundwork for Sat-Yr-9 to manipulate Kitty after pulling a Kill and Replace.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: If you hadn't read Captain Britain's Marvel UK adventures, you would have met her in Issue 1 of Excalibur and said goodbye in Issue 5.

    S.T.R.I.K.E.

S.T.R.I.K.E.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marvel_s_t_r_i_k_e.png

First Appearance: Captain Britain #17 (February, 1977)

S.T.R.I.K.E., initially led by Commander Lance Hunter, was a British intelligence agency dedicated to dealing with threats beyond the remit of the regular intelligence services.

The agency assisted Captain Britain and Captain America in thwarting the Red Skull's attempt to take over the country with the help of the treacherous Deputy Director Tod Radcliffe.

    The RCX

RCX

First Appearance:

A new British intelligence agency set up in the wake of the Jaspers Warp and infiltration of S.T.R.I.K.E.. Like its predecessor, it was dedicated to dealing with superhuman threats, but with a particular focus on the 'Warpies' - children who had been mutated by Jaspers' reality warp.

Nominally allies of Captain Britain, although he was very cynical about their motives - and, for their part, the RCX were entirely prepared to manipulate him for the greater good.

The Braddock Academy

    The Braddock Academy
    Kid Briton

Kid Briton

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bf61d84f_df62_42ef_af9a_c7b86e30c8c6.jpeg

A young Alternate Universe version of Captain Britain/Brian Braddock. At Braddock Academy, he was a cocky bully who threw his weight around and few dared challenge him. With his confidence being the source of his power, he's confident he has what it takes to survive Murderworld.

  • Alternate Universe: He is a younger version of Captain Britain in a different universe, who has saved his universe several times.
  • Break the Haughty: Apex causally mentioned that she knew all along he was cheating on her and basically let him do it and he played into her hands. He is quickly unnerved by this (his displayed Life Meter actually goes down a few), and later gets hurt by Nara which freaks him out more.
  • Emotional Powers/Clap Your Hands If You Believe: Kid Briton is powered by his own ego, which he boosts by bullying the other Braddock students.
  • Flaming Sword: Kid Britain has one.
  • Hate Sink: Brian has none of his 616 counterparts good qualities, only his worst qualities dialed up to the 11. He is a narcissistic bully who cares about no one but himself and doesn’t have a moment that shows otherwise.
  • Jerkass: Arrogant, bullying of the other students (mainly Anachronism) among other misdeeds.
  • Jerk Jock: Fills this role at the Braddock Academy.
  • The Leader: He is the School Idol at Braddock Academy for both right and wrong reasons. He is a genuine hero who's saved his world, but he is also a bully. He quickly takes initiative to grab the leader position of the Braddock kids in Murderworld.
  • Nominal Hero: He's a hero who fights on the side of good, but he only does it to boost his own ego and powers.
  • Off with His Head!: After threatening Nara and cutting her, Anachronism finally uses his axe to decapitate him.
    Apex Twins

Apex

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2aacb35a_d121_486d_97b5_242d99dc5341.jpeg

She only has the ability to fly, but Katy Bashir makes up for it in her intellect, craftiness, and ruthlessness. She is all too eager to start playing Arcade's game in order to save her skin. Despite her supposedly weak powers, Apex may be the biggest player in Murderworld. She has a twin brother named Tim that she shares the same body with, that due to genetic manipulation by her parents. She and Tim are also technopaths, something else Apex kept secret.

  • Angsty Surviving Twin: Subverted, she caused the car accident that injured her and used that opportunity to completely suppress Tim.
  • Arc Villain: Throughout the "Game On" arc before she's defeated by Nico.
  • Bollywood Nerd: She's of Indian ethnicity and she says herself that she's smart as a whip. Most of her intellect goes into manipulating people and deceit.
  • Conjoined Twins: Well, in a sense. They do share the same body.
  • Deadpan Snarker: What she's been reduced to after she loses badly to Nico and ends up in Arcade's lair. Not that she wasn't snarky before.
Apex: We're trapped in the basement with an invincible clown who gets off on killing kiddies and you won't shut up about your bloody robo-waifu long enough for me to save all of our lives.
  • Evil Brit: A rare non-white, female example of the trope as she is the most villainous out of the kids in Murderworld.
  • Evil Twin: Her brother Tim is the Good Twin.
  • Expy: Of Mitsuko Souma.
  • Flight: Her stated main power.
  • Gender Bender: She and her brother share the same body, which shapeshifts every other day from female twin to male twin.
  • Hate Sink: Not the main villain, but more than willing to play the part.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: She justifies killing Juston and controlling Death Locket by saying she's being realistic, and that she wants to win and leave the island.
Apex: "Given the choice, I'll take killing over dying. Maybe that does make me a monster. But I'll be the monster going home."
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Part of her Freudian Excuse to her evil deeds. She wanted a normal life where she didn't have to retreat ever other day into her brother's consciousness.
  • It's All About Me: Extremely self-centered, mainly for self-preservation.
  • Jerkass: Proud of her manipulations of people, blatantly using them and taunting Juston, who she earlier crippled, before snapping his neck really pushed her over the edge. She also taunts Nico as she uses Darkhawk armor-clad Chase to cut her down.
  • The Lancer: She dated Kid Briton who's The Leader and complimented his strength and power with her cunning and intelligence. It turns out she more than evenly matched for him and after he dies, she becomes the biggest threat in Murderworld.
  • Manipulative Bitch: She calls herself out on this in a calming way in #2, saying she can talk others into doing what she wants casually. She had Brian under her thumb as well as Death Locket. She's also literally a manipulative bitch, as with her powers she can control technology, which is bad news for cyborg Death Locket.
  • Meaningful Name: Her super-name means "the top, the peak, the summit", and she does think very highly of herself compared to her peers. Not to mention it is a reference to electronic musician Aphex Twin, as she is a twin.
  • Motive Rant: In which she tries to convince herself that she's actually the hero by going out and killing others.
  • Personality Powers: She's a manipulative, controlling person and also a geek into cybernetics and a fan of Gadgeteer Geniuses like Tony Stark, which thematically represents her technopathy.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: All of her actions in the game are primarily to survive and to come out on top.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Katy is destructive and manipulative and Tim is gentle and understanding. Tim teaches Deathlocket to use her arm cannon, Katy simply takes over her mind.
  • Smug Snake: She's very proud of her herself, arrogant, and thinks she's the smartest person in the room. She even thinks of herself as a hero for her murderous actions on Murderworld. Eventually, it becomes her downfall and she is killed by Deathlocket.
  • Technopath: Both Katy and Tim are technopaths. She's been controlling Deathlocket's random attacks since the beginning, and can also take control of Sentinel.
  • Tragic Villain: She's the furthest thing from a hero, but she hates Arcade as much as anyone in Murderworld. However, she also wants to survive which leads to her murderous streak in the "Game On" arc. Somewhere in-between #12 and #16, when she releases her repression of Tim (or lost that ability) and starts being helpful in trying to take down Arcade. Of course, she went back to betraying the heroes in exchange for Arcade editing the footage so that she came out looking like a hero.
  • Walking Spoiler: The whole sharing-a-body-with-her-twin-brother thing is a pretty left-field twist no one saw coming, and if you were to look up a character bio or more information on Apex, you would instantly be spoiled for a huge twist.

Tim

A "late entrant" in Murderworld.

  • And I Must Scream: Several years ago, Apex caused a car accident and took the opportunity to take over the body both she and Tim share. For years, he was trapped in her mind while she lived life without him.
  • Extreme Doormat: Childhood psychologists described him as a "people pleaser" and "non-confrontational." Even before he was trapped, he never in any way tried to confront Apex about her behavior. He knows that stopping for good would lead to his death.
  • Gender Bender: The body he shares with Apex switches from female twin to male twin every other day.
  • Good Twin: With Apex being the Evil Twin.
  • I Cannot Self-Terminate: Tim realizes the solution to stopping Apex, but he would have to commit suicide. But he was too scared to do it, and by the time he realized what he had to do, Apex took over and he was trapped in her head once again.
  • Kill Us Both: Tim pleads for Deathlocket to kill him in order to stop Apex. After hesitating, she does it.
  • Love at First Sight: He and Deathlocket hit it off pretty quickly, despite the circumstances.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Tim is docile and non-confrontational, compared to the scheming, manipulative Apex.
  • Walking Spoiler: If you highlight any of that text, you would spoil yourself for a huge twist.

Anachronism

Aiden Gillespie was a chubby gamer nerd who was constantly picked on at Braddock Academy. Somehow, he inherited the body of an immortal Celtic warlord complete with a huge axe, but he still has his pacifist nature with him. In Murderworld, he struggling with the bloodthirstiness and still trying to resist the urge to kill.

  • All There in the Manual: The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe delves deeper into his backstory; namely his canon last name of "Gillespie," how his soul was merged with an ancient Celtic warlord while playing in the park, his enrollment in the Braddock Academy and a few details about his friendship with Cullen and how Cullen's feelings grew.
  • Ax-Crazy: No pun intended, but he tries his hardest to control this side of himself. He still finds himself smiling while in life or death situations.
  • The Big Guy: The main muscle in the The Team of Braddock Academy.
  • Death Wail: He lets one out while cradling a dead Nara.
  • Grin of Audacity: Done mainly through the Celt's Blood Lust, and it's something he can barely control to his horror.
  • Heroic BSoD: Just briefly, after he cut off Kid Briton's head. Making out with Nara gets him out of it.
  • Involuntary Shapeshifter: He was unable to control just when he would turn into the warrior, and it looks like he's permanently in warrior mode.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Cullen Bloodstone, whom he's very close too.
  • Missing Mom: In his narration for issue #6, he mentioned his mother walked out on him and his father.
  • Morality Pet: To Nara, which makes her more relatable and less violence/sex-crazed.
  • No Full Name Given: His last name is never mentioned in the story. According to Dennis Hopeless, his full name is "Aiden Gillespie".
  • Oblivious to Love: He has not noticed Cullen's crush on him, most likely because he's distracted by Nara, not to mention being infused with a Celtic warrior. Nara finally clues him in that Cullen has it bad for him.
  • Shapeshifter Mode Lock: He's seemingly stuck in warrior mode forever.
  • Split Personality: Aiden's docile nerd personality was meshed with the warrior's savageness, and he tried to keep it under control. Nara suggests that the savageness is Aiden's own hidden dark side taking shape, now that he has the power to deal with bullies.
  • Unstoppable Rage: After Cullen kills Nara, he gets very angry and cuts Cullen with his ax, and then kicks him in the head in retaliation.
  • Violent Glaswegian: The Celtic warrior that possess Aiden. Possibly Aiden himself (as he is Scottish), whether or not he wants to admit it.
    Nara

Nara

A girl hailing from the Marvel Universe's version of Atlantis. She's mean, cruel, and not afraid to do anything to get what she wants. In addition to her violent streak, she's also very voluptuous, and a temptress to all the boys at Braddock Academy.

  • Action Girl: Just like all the other girls in the Murderworld, outside Apex.
  • All Amazons Want Hercules: She is strongly attracted to aggressive and violent people. She thought it was pretty hot watching poor Aiden being beaten up by Kid Briton.
  • Blood Knight: She loves watching violence, and also participating in it, regard less of the reason.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: She dies of her injuries in Anachronism's arms.
  • The Exile: After her parents' failed assassination attempt, Namor spared Nara, but exiled her to the surface world.
  • Fish People: She's from Atlantis and has a fish-like appearance. Sometimes Cullen berates her with fish-related derisive nicknames.
  • The Heart: She functions as the emotional/social one of the Braddock group. She encourages Anachronism to embrace his dark side and show his strength, while sexually teasing him. In time, she grows to care for him and acts in a true Heart manner by reminding Anachronism that Cullen was trying to protect him by unleashing his monster form.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She retrieves the Bloodstone ring that holds back the Glaratrox and uses it to revert Cullen back to his human form, right after the monster gores her.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She bullies poor Death Locket when she first meets her. Not to mention having no qualms fooling around with other girls' boyfriends. But she's also not completely bloodthirsty and can be helpful and insightful in her own way.
  • Love Epiphany: At first it seems like Nara is just using Anachronism for "pleasure" and security, but in time she grows to realize that she does love him.
  • The Mistress: She gladly takes this role when Kid Briton cheats on Apex with her.
  • Parental Abandonment: Her Dark and Troubled Past reveals that her parents, under the guise of Namor's royal guard, were agents of Attuma and they tried to assassinate him only to get killed.
  • Pet the Dog: Saves both Bloodstone and Anachronism from drowning, and she's genuinely appreciative of Anachronism saving her life. She thanks him with a make-out session and possibly more.
  • Sex Is Violence: She gets really turned on by fighting and violence, and was turned on by Kid Briton after he beat up Anachronism.
  • Speak Ill of the Dead: She's not sorry Kid Briton is dead, as he tried to kill her for Apex. She said she's glad he's dead.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She's pretty tall, and has Anachronism lusting after her, not to mention Kid Briton.
  • Super Not-Drowning Skills: As an Atlantean, she can breathe underwater and is an expert swimmer.
  • The Vamp: She's a big seductress at Braddock Academy, not just getting Kid Briton under her spell, but also Anachronism.
