United Islands of Mirelva

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag5.png
The Flag of Mirelva

An allied nation of seven small islands south of the continent and the pirate scions living there. The chairperson of the alliance is selected from among island leaders and dons the Brigandine of Ego. The war on the mainland stirs up Stella’s wild pirate blood and she decides to take over the continent as the alliance’s captain.

    Stella Hamett

Stella Hamett (Voiced by Chinatsu Akasaki)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stellahamett.png
Class: Captain - > Pirate Queen.

The ruler of the United Islands of Mirelva. Nominated by her father Ginium Hamett as chairperson of the alliance, she sees the war as an opportunity to conquer the continent.

  • Boisterous Bruiser: Loud, bombastic and eager to have a worthy and risky fight against even the strongest foes.
(Towards Rudo) Stella: Now it's time to see if the rumors of you bein' the most dangerous man on Runersia are true.
  • Character Development: She starts out as a devil-may-care pirate queen, but then she encounters an Armor-Piercing Question from a young girl: What happens to all the money once she's done conquering? This causes her to think back to her past and she resolves herself to be a more responsible pirate queen.
  • Do Unto Others Before They Do Unto Us: Believing that the other countries are going to use the chaos to conquer the United Islands, Stella decides to beat them to the punch by attacking them first.
Stella: (Towards Rubino, aghast at intentions to take his Brigandine) Hmph. Don't pretend for a moment that you wouldn't take ours given the opportunity. But don't expect to outwit a pirate when it comes to plundering.
Stella: (Towards Eliza after she calls her out on taking advantage of the chaos of the continent.) Hah! That's rich comin' from someone who started this mess. You're smack in the middle of it and you'd rather fight one 'nother than try comin' to some accord. And now you're just gonna take the whole place for yourselves! If you ask me, greed seems to be more your thing than ours. If we're gonna steal somethin', at least we have the savvy to say so from the start!
  • Foil: To King Dryst of Iscalio in Legend of Forsena. Both are Boisterous Bruisers who led a nation of Ragtag Bunch of Misfits for purely selfish reasons. However, Stella comes across as a much nicer individual towards her men and her enemies when compared to the Jerkass that is Dryst and she does care for well-being of the people living under her nation, unlike Dryst.
  • A Handful for an Eye: Her special attack "Cheap Shot" has her doing this to a single enemy unit, inflicting damage as well as a chance to inflict the Faint status on the target.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: And how! Her skill "Energizing Drink" increases her Atk stats while decreasing her Agi stat. And her beginning scene is basically getting so drunk that she still wants more and Pluto had to reel her in.
  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste: She sees the chaos of Runersia as an opportunity for her and the islands to plunder and earn wealth.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Daughter, to be exact. Like her father Ginny, Stella is a bit of a boozehound, and is noted to be strong enough to get the pirate clans of Mirelva to work together.
  • Only Sane Man: Surprisingly, amongst all the rulers, despite being touted as one of the evil nations, Stella can come off sane and reasonable while others are deadset on imposing their own values on all Runersia.
  • Pirate Girl: You don't say?? Though she's eventually a pirate queen... Despite so, she has a downplayed pirate talk style, she may speak more roughly, but she doesn't spam things like "Arr!", "Matey", "Ahoy", "Shiver me timbers", "Landlubber" or any other kind of stereotypical pirate language.
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: Discussed. While she has the Brigandine of Ego, she wonders if it's worthwhile, sounding much more selfish than the virtuous and grandiose other Brigandines (Justice, Glory, Sanctity, Freedom... and heck, for a free-like-a-bird pirate like her, she didn't even get freedom). Though she eventually figures out that it does have an awesome power: The will to stay true to oneself.

    Pluto

Pluto (Voiced by Kent Itō)

Class: Sorceror

Staff officer and childhood friend of Stella Hamett. A highly educated and logical man, he is the polar opposite of his captain although they both have full trust of each other.

    Adieu

Adieu (Voiced by Yoshiki Nakajima)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/h7zlujkr9ardd7utddpbmlb7cuftisxbpt7rraml4atvobtar8vldpelillkxxvkmkorp5yqgo0jzpzf.jpg
Class: Berserker

The head of the mafia group that controls the United Islands of Mirelva's underworld. Sensing an opportunity to make money, he decides to join Mirelva's war effort.

  • Bandit Clan: Is the infamous leader of one.
  • The Gambler: As indicate by the dice in his portrait.
  • Handsome Lech: Supposedly he has a long history of seducing women and mentions there's a couple of ladies in every port who could vouch for his 'references'. However, onscreen he strikes out repeatedly and really gets into lech territory when hitting on Talia, who is thirteen years his junior and a teenager.
  • Rape, Pillage, and Burn: It's implied his bandits have done this before; he even has to tell them not to plunder upon defeating enemies!
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: He's the Manly Man to Pluto's Sensitive Guy, he even managed to inspire Stella by stealing her first kiss and got away with it (because Stella already had her Character Development).
  • Unscrupulous Hero: For a given value of "hero", but still. Even by Mirelva's standards, he's considered a scoundrel.

    Ginium Hamett

Ginium Hamett (Voiced by Ryūsuke Ōbayashi)

Class: Viking

The former chairperson of the United Islands of Mirelva. Known as "Mermaid Ginny" for being covered in head to toe in mermaid tattoos.

Formerly renowned and respected for his strength and his sense of responsibility, he spends the rest of his days being drunk and talking nonstop about the good old days.

Despite this, he is still one if the strongest warriors in the nation and will gladly use this strength in the battlefield for the sake of his beloved daughter.

  • Action Dad: A hard-drinking, hard-fighting pirate and Stella's father. He outright refuses to leave the front lines.
  • The Alcoholic: He's become a drunk in recent years, though he's still quite strong.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: One of his command lines is that he's not much into thinking, so he'd rather bash some skulls with his axe.
  • Crutch Character: He has high starting level and advanced class, he will hit like a truck, but his low rune power will eventually hold him back. And especially when there is a sufficiently high leveled Berserker (but lower leveled than him) waiting in line with greater potential: Adieu.
  • Doting Parent: He's very proud of Stella's abilities, is happy to support her as leader of the army in spite of him technically being the actual chairman, and has conversations with fellow parents Della and Schizler about battling for their children's sake.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Yes, that nickname of his is 'Mermaid Ginny' and he did cover his body with tattoos full of mermaids. Ridicule that on your own peril in the face of his axe and the reason why he was Stella's predecessor in leading Mirelva.
  • Tattooed Crook: Covered in mermaid tattoos, earning him the "Mermaid Ginny" nickname. A bit of an Informed Attribute, since we can't actually see any of his tattoos.

    Umimaru

Umimaru

Class: Automaton

A mechanical doll that Pluto somehow created by magic using mysterious spare parts brought from flea markets.

He calls himself an "automaton", although both Pluto and Stella don't know what the word means or what language the word is from.

  • Innocently Insensitive: Due to his naivety, Umimaru sometimes makes very tactless comments, such as drawing attention to Stella crying when Pluto is intentionally avoiding doing so.
  • Literal-Minded: Interprets Ginger saying "it's time to have some fun" as an invitation to play, and excitedly announces he has made a friend.
  • Logic Bomb: Gets worked up over certain idioms and contradictions, at one point devolving into repeating "Statement illogical!" due to misunderstanding how liquid (oil) can burn.
  • Magitek: It's noted that Pluto used magic to create him.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: Of the robot-pirate variety.
  • Phrase Catcher: "pile of junk"
  • Robo Speak: Very much so, frequently sprinkling BI-BOBO into his speech along with prefacing statements with "Observation" or "Correction".

    Yuki

Yuki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuki_7.png
Class: Swordsman

A young swordsman who is a member of the Hazam clan.

He joins Mirelva in order to make a name for himself, hoping that he'll be able to call his father and young sister to his side and restore his family's honor.

  • A House Divided: Yuki's father and sister are members of different factions, and the three may come to blows eventually. Thankfully, it's possible to eventually reunite them if you're playing as one of the factions and defeat the other two.
  • Family Honor: Yuki wants to restore his family to greatness.
  • Permanently Missable Content: Downplayed. Yuki appears second in his family, so if one were to wipe out Mirelva too quickly as the Shinobi, Yuki would become unavailable. Thankfully, Mirelva and the Shinobi aren't closely connected so it gives ample time for Yuki to appear and be recruited.
  • Samurai: Has the appearance, at least. Helped by his starting Swordsman class.
  • Sibling Rivalry: A friendly version; he and Ann are pretty amicable about crossing swords and happy to test each other's strength.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Not exactly the person, but Yuki's starting monster roster was initially nothing to write home about. Come the update patch with the PS4 version, he now brings a Level 20 Titan with him.

    Lucia

Lucia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lucialor.png
Class: Temple Knight

A captain of an all female ship. She has a reputation of being harsh towards men but soft towards women. While a rival to the Hametts, she joins them in their war effort, seeing on opportunity to claim the treasures of Runersia.

    Ratka

Ratka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ratka.png
Class: Hunter

The tomboyish, youngest child of a Mirelvan pirate family. She accompanied her family on their ship during childhood, supporting them through espionage, lock-picking, or even food preparation.

Dreaming that she would one day be captain of her own ship, she closely watches Stella as a role model on how a captain should behave.

  • Glory Hound: If she joins a battle, she may demand full credit for victory at the end.
  • Lovable Rogue: Has a knack for thievery and espionage, but isn't so bad overall, especially compared to the likes of Adieu.
  • Tomboy: Said to be quite tomboyish.

    Sophie

Sophie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sophie_1.png
Class: Enchantress

Daughter of an upstart sea merchant. Once she awakened to her powers as a rune knight, her parents sent her to Mirelva Academy to study magic. She graduated but unscrupulous individuals in Mirelva often steal her credit.

Her parents then sent their daughter to the battlefield, hoping that she'll fully utilize her strengths and gain enough wisdom to survive.

  • Asleep in Class: Prone to this, according to Lorenzo's bio.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Downplayed. She will join any other country if Mirelva is defeated, which makes her a Foil to Norzaleo's Leonora (another Magikarp Power-ladden Enchantress), who joins whoever directly defeated Norzaleo.
  • Magikarp Power: Starts at level 1, but eventually will have the strongest Rune Power amongst the Mirelva crews.
  • Nice Girl: A nice kid overall, especially compared to some of the other piratey-types of Mirelva.
  • Skilled, but Naive: Though a talented magic-user and competent Rune Knight, Sophie's noted to be rather sheltered and easily duped.

    Lorenzo

Lorenzo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lorenzo_8.png
Class: Bishop

A professor in Mirelva Academy, he is a preacher of reason rather than faith or chivalry. He is renowned for having taught many accomplished students into the world from out of his classroom, although his students comment on how he drones on and on during his lectures.

  • Dreadlock Warrior: Has some rather nice dreads, and fights alongside a bunch of pirates to conquer Runersia.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: While his profile claims he prefers reason over religion, his starting class is the religiously-themed Bishop class.
  • The Professor: A professor at Mirelva's Academy.
  • Soul Brotha: He's a laid back, and pretty cool-headed funky black dude, though he trades the afro for dreadlocks.

    Tommy Manta

Tommy Manta

Class: Ranger

The vice-leader of Mirelva, leading one of the islands Casadora. He and Ginny go way back and tales of their exploits were the stories for many Mirelvan youths, although age caught up to him and he has developed hearing loss.

  • Handicapped Badass: Apparently he's deaf, but that didn't affect him much in terms of fighting, which could have been a Gameplay and Story Segregation.
  • Number Two: He's basically Ginny's second-in-command.
  • Out of Focus: He has a significant role in naming Stella captain of Mirelva's forces at the beginning of the campaign, and then promptly vanishes from story relevance for the majority of the plot and doesn't even have any battle conversations.
  • The Sneaky Guy: As the Ranger/Thief class, when compared to Ginny's Berserker/Viking tree, Tommy is the one to take care of the sneaky stuffs.

    Robilio

Robilio

Class: Berserker

A former fisherman that drafts himself to Mirelva army to prevent war from encroaching his land. He's rough in battle, but actually pretty sensitive off-battle.

  • Henpecked Husband: Despite his fearsome appearance in battle, he's very weak against his wife.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: He's a smashing Berserker in battle, but in the spare time knitted Pluto his cape.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Sadly, his stats, while serviceable, tend to get overshadowed by someone else with bigger story prominence and the same class: Adieu.

    Sherad

Sherad

Class: Thief

A young, reckless pirate who has simple dreams of getting rich. He used to be a Cannon Fodder many times, but his luck carry him through to survive. Has a knack to express desire to shoot people up.

  • Born Lucky: He has a rather high luck to make him survive many times of being a Cannon Fodder.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He has a super squeaky voice and his reckless attitude might make you dismiss him that he's a joke, but he's actually a competent Rune Knight, having a high Rune Power score in the end.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Invoked. Sometimes, he has a desire to just shoot people up instead of anything else.

    Gallivard

Gallivard

Class: Berserker

A traveling merchant that sells weapons. He used to be friends with Will and Ferrick (the latter one from Norzaleo), but without a sense of patriotism, he decided to join Mirelva since it will maximize his profits. He still cared for his old friends, though.

  • Arms Dealer: His profession is that of a weapon trader.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: He can join whichever country that defeated Mirelva, but ONLY if they have Ferrick on board.
  • Only in It for the Money: He's not exactly the most moral guy, and only driven on where he could make money the most, that's why he's in Mirelva.

    Viggo

Viggo

Class: Monk

A laid back cargo-packer of Mirelva. He's chubby but packs a powerful blow with his punch. He usually ends his battle by having a feast afterwards, though he could dance well during feasts.

  • Acrofatic: Despite his fat body, he can still dance reasonably well during feasts.
  • Big Eater: Yes, he does eat a lot and it makes him very fat. Not that he minds.
  • Stout Strength: His chubbiness belies a great strength.
