The characters of the Ninja Theory game Bleeding Edge.

    open/close all folders

Tropes that apply to all fighters
  • Blood Knight: They fight because they love it!
  • Cyborg: As the game's trailer/intro shows, cybernetic enhancement is rampant, and the fighters of Bleeding Edge are all augmented to some degree.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: A heavyset southern biker girl who is her motorcycle, a heavily cyberized black metal guitarist who spews fire and lightning, a mech piloted by a hyper-intelligent dolphin, a scholar who transferred his mind into a cyborg snake and uses voodoo magic to pilot his corpse like a puppet, and many more eccentrics round out the roster.

Damage characters

     Cass

Cassandra "Cass" Lebedeva

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/be_1.PNG

A generational dancer from affluent Russian lineage, young Cassandra Lebedeva had a life unlimited. Inspired by a Mother’s muse, she grew into expectations as the world’s premiere ballerina phenom.

Despite the risks, her father sought to ensure success and administer unproven bio-tech advancement therapy within his company. His risk was rewarded, enhancing reflexes, agility and sensory processing within the 12-year-old girl.

Miracles unraveled until a single needle would rob young Cassandra, of life as she knew it, and the use of her legs. Cybernetic appendages would replace the paraplegia, but not the disdain, and now her secret was out.

The Russian Government would seize her as an asset, a weapon, to spend the next 14 years as a lethal operative for Russian intelligence. Her life was no longer hers, and when her Mother came to pass, she was given a gift of clarity. She would take back her stolen life, and flee to America, to find family within the Bleeding Edge.

  • Animal Motifs: Cass' entire design revolves around Cassowaries, large flightless birds which can be quite dangerous to humans and domestic animals, thanks to their large strong legs and long talons.
  • Dance Battler: Her background as a ballerina is applied to her attacks, particularly Blade Dance where she spins in a pirouette flinging a storm of feather blades into a large area.
  • Death from Above: Dive Bomb causes Cass to leap up and out of view, before slamming down to a place of her choosing, dealing decent damage and stunning enemies near the center.
  • Fragile Speedster: Has very low health but more than makes up for it by having the fastest speed in the game.
  • Ice Queen: She has a very cold demeanor that some of the other fighters find a little disturbing, owing to her spending half her life as a tool for the Russian military.
  • Impossible Hourglass Figure: Due to Cass' exceptional augmentations to her legs, she has a ludicrous hip-to-waist ratio, despite her lithe figure.
  • Kick Chick: While she has throwable blade feathers on her arms, the bulk of her offensive power comes from her zero-cooldown Rake ability, which sees her utilize her cassowary legs to deadly effect.

     Daemon

Damon John "Daemon" Banks

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/be_4.PNG

Life packs punches. And native New Yorker Damon John Banks took a lot of hits.

Raised alone by a loving and artistic mom, Damon’s childhood would abandon him, when his mother died from corporate complications.

Under the new name Daemon, graffiti would be his guide, while the system would relentlessly oppose him. But the fight would give him purpose. He would become a gifted coder, a master of martial arts, and would seek redemption against a system and corporate society that failed him.

He would form a gang of digital misfits called the Bleeding Edge, and unleash the biggest corporate data breach in history. He had his taste of revenge, and now seeks retribution as he builds an army of the augmented amidst the underworld fighting circuits.

  • Big Good: He's the founder of Bleeding Edge and the creator of the Skeleton Key, which made augments available to the general public.
  • Close-Range Combatant: He can get up close and personal to deal some heavy damage with his Graffiti Blade, Shuriken and Shadow Strike.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: His character trailer has him dispose of three heavily armed security guards with little to no effort. To add insult to injury, he sprays his gang's logo on their door once he's done.
  • Confusion Fu: The most effective way to play him. His already high speed makes it easy for him to zip in and out of a battlefield, slowly whittling down enemy players' health and leaving them none the wiser. Add to that his Stealth/Sleep special, which gives him temporary camouflage and lets him send enemies to sleep when he attacks them, leaving them vulnerable for a combo.
  • Cool Sword: His Graffiti Blade, a katana that has his trademark spray-paint all over it.
  • Damage Over Time: How his Shuriken special works. He can throw a maximum of three shurikens which will slow enemies and damage them when they make contact.
  • Dash Attack: Shift lets him rapidly dash forward and potentially end with a powerful spinning attack.
  • Death of a Thousand Cuts: Shadow Strike will spread out the damage when used against multiple targets, slowly whittling down their health. It's averted when used against only one target, in which case all the damage goes to one enemy.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Human Augment Systems took everything from him. He returned the favor by creating the Skeleton Key and founding Bleeding Edge.
  • Hack Your Enemy: He hacked and caused a breach in H.A.'s systems when he created the skeleton key.
  • Highly-Visible Ninja: His kit relies very much on stealth and surprise attacks, but he's wearing a bunch of bright colors and a white demon mask as default.
  • Hit-and-Run Tactics: Shift banks on this by giving Daemon the opportunity to dash in and out of battle within a second.
  • In the Hood: He wears a dark-blue hoodie.
  • Instant Sedation: Hitting an enemy while Stealth/Sleep is activated will immediately send them to sleep.
  • Invisibility: Stealth/Sleep grants you temporary invisibility, though it will automatically deactivate as soon as you attack.
  • It's Personal: H.A. was responsible for the death of his mother and him becoming a Street Urchin as a result. Safe to say, he's pretty eager to pay them back for it.
  • Lightning Bruiser: His Shift ability, along with his speed, make him pretty hard to hit and he's no slouch when it comes to dealing damage either.
  • Playful Hacker: Shows shades of this in the trailers. He obviously enjoys toying with Human Augment Systems and his character trailer has him mockingly surrender to it's security guards - before cutting them all down in seconds and nonchalantly vandalizing their property.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: He hacked Human Augment Systems in order to make cybernetic augmentations available for everyone who needed them and to get back at the corporation responsible for his mother's death.
  • The Sneaky Guy: He's pretty good for sneaking up on an opponent, especially when Stealth/Sleep is involved.
  • Stock Ninja Weaponry: Uses a katana for his base attack and shurikens for one of his specials.
  • Street Samurai: Mixed with Western Samurai. His primary weapon is a highly stylized Katana and the spray cans strapped to his arms, his sash and his boots evoke the image of classic samurai-armor. He also grew up in a dystopian Cyberpunk - society and uses his hacker-skills to fight against a corrupt MegaCorp.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: His hacking of H.A. and making cybernetic augmentations available for everybody caused a societal uproar and increased illegal body modification, but seeing as the alternative was to let a MegaCorp hold a monopoly on what basically amounts to artificial limbs, he was probably right to do so.
  • You Are Already Dead: Death Mark grants extra damage against a single marked target. If the marked enemy is killed, the super is refreshed.

     Gizmo

Molly "Gizmo" Gibson

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/be_6.PNG

On the edge of Australia, in a sweltering mining township, a father’s heart melted when young Molly Gibson was born.

He would call her Gizmo, and walk the earth for her, and she would follow each footstep. The happy and curious Molly would soon emulate his engineering and construction skills, scavenging junk-tech to invent and build endlessly, with sometimes silly but highly functional designs.

At 13 she would win a prestigious bot-battle competition, thanks to the Skeleton Key. And then came the self-augments, along with her Father’s unbreakable realisation: Gizmo was destined for greater things. And so he sent her to New York, the tech mecca, to build her legend and find the Bleeding Edge.

  • Action Bomb: Sucka deploys a bomb that sucks enemies towards it before exploding.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Replaced her left arm with a cybernetic augment.
  • Animal Motif: Bears, fitting with her Badass Adorable looks and personality. Her helmet has a teddy bear face and her super "Mini Mech" allows her to call in a mech-suit with a bear-like helmet for a headpiece.
  • Awesome Aussie: She was born and raised in Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia and is a capable constructing engineer with a BFG that shoots bolts.
  • Badass Adorable: She's a small Fiery Redhead who can built a deadly fighter-mech-suit out of scraps and regularly partakes in street fights.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: She might seem kinda silly with her bear helmet and her peculiar designs for her machines, but anatagonizing her is ill-advised. What she lacks in muscle power, she more than makes up for with her inventions.
  • The Blacksmith: She built all of her equipment herself, including her mech-suit and was a very talented engineer and constructionist even before Bleeding Edge.
  • Butt-Monkey: Nearly every trailer makes her out to be one. The launch trailer has her squashed by Makutu, while the official release trailer has her struggling (and failing) to lift a single small dumbbell.
  • Call to Adventure: Her father send her off to New York after realizing there was nothing else he could teach her and the rest is history.
  • Chainsaw-Grip BFG: Carries her GG-gun in this manner.
  • Daddy's Girl: She had a very loving relationship with her father. In fact, it was her father who encouraged her to leave home and join Bleeding Edge, because he realized he had nothing else to teach her and wanted her to reach her true potential.
  • Dare to Be Badass: After witnessing her penchant for bot-battles and self-augmentation, her father encouraged her to join Bleeding Edge in order to hone her craft even further.
  • Demolitions Expert: Has shades of this. Sucka and Rock-It! both have her use explosives to deal heavy damage.
  • The Engineer: And from age 13 on, no less!
  • Fiery Redhead: Has stark-red hair and is more than ready to throw down.
  • Gatling Good: Her primary weapon is her GG-gun, a gatling gun that shoots bolts.
  • Glass Cannon: She can deal some pretty heavy damage from afar but getting into the fray with her is a guarantee to get yourself killed. She doesn't have any effective close-ranged attacks and her defense isn't really anything to brag about.
  • Improbable Age: She started partaking in bot-battles at 13 and joined Bleeding Edge at 17. This makes her only one year older than Zero Cool, who is The Baby of the Bunch.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Bouncer lets you drop a jump-pad that lasts for a few seconds and can allow Gizmo to escape to higher ledges when cornered.
  • Rocket Ride: Her super Rock-It! has Gizmo summon and ride a large rocket that will blow up into a multitude of fireworks as soon as it collides with something.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: One of her specials and one of her supers involve setting modofied explosives on the enemy team.
  • Trick Bomb: Sucka has her drop a bomb that pulls enemies towards the epicenter of it's explosion.
  • The Turret Master: T-Rut lets her throw out a turret that automatically targets nearby enemies.

     Maeve

Maeve Murphy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/be_7.PNG

As a baby, little Maeve Murphy became transfixed in Ireland’s nature. As a child, she would be dazzled by the land’s history and mythos. The stories of witches and magic and mysticism, minus the nastiness.

As a woman, Granny Maeve would spend her entire life in Ireland, and as old age crept in so did her sense of adventure. Carried by a hovering bauble, Maeve would float across the world. The beauty and the horror, all that is life. And there she’d find her mission in life. To fight for what is right, and she’d find that in the Bleeding Edge.

  • Alliterative Name: Maeve Murphy.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: A quirky old lady who dresses and acts like a witch from a classic fairytale.
  • Cool Old Guy: The oldest Bleeding Edge-member at 80 years and still more than capable of kicking ass.
  • Dirty Coward: Vanish can help you make a quick get-away once the going gets tough or if you just don't feel like fighting.
  • Energy Ball: Maeve's super Toil and Trouble has her summon a "magical" ball of energy that can be fired in any direction and creates a huge explosion once it hits.
  • Life Drain: Siphon Life lets her shoot an energy beam that drains her target's HP and heals her in the process.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: It's not entirely clear if her magic is just coming from her technology, if it's actual magic or both.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: Fitting with her Witch Classic-theme, she often speaks in rhymes.
  • Teleportation: Peek-A-Brew allows you to weaponize this: Enemies standing near the area you teleport to are stunned when you arrive, leaving them open to attack.
  • Witch Classic: She has the outfit, the attitude and the magic(?) to fit the profile.

     Nidhöggr

Steiner "Nidhöggr" Foss

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/be_11.PNG

When a musically gifted child named Steiner Foss grew tired of classical music and the world around, his sombre state would guide him to greatness.

At an accidental discovery of an illegal concert, buried deep under a rotting cannery district in a corner of Norway, the young Steiner became beautifully horrified. It was here that his journey to international fame and success would begin, as the Black Metal icon now known as Níðhöggr.

Now a modified man, rich in anti-authoritarian motives, this beacon of blackness and musically driven augmentations bombards the ears of the world with the anthems of imperial end.

  • Hair-Trigger Temper: If his character trailer is anything to go by, he's got a lot of pent up rage that can be set off with the slightest inconvenience.
  • Harsh Vocals: His Death Growl, which damages and silences enemies in a large radius.
  • Kill It with Fire: Half of his power comes from his built in flame thrower augments, allowing him to spit flame and powerslide leaving behind a burning trail. Not only does the fire deal percentage-based damage, it also heals him when he strikes a burning target.
  • Metalhead: Obviously.
  • Shock and Awe: In addition to his fire, he can also unleash electrical attacks with his guitar; throwing it to slow/stun enemies, charging the strings to shoot a bolt of chained lightning, or unleashing a powerful riff that stuns every enemy in a large area around him.

Support characters

    Azrael

Malak "Azrael" Ali

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/be_azrael.PNG

Never the brightest bulb in the relative vault, Malak Ali simply couldn’t catch up to a family entrenched in the elaborate business built by his father. Every attempt drew upward eyes and spit ridden pffts. “Fools rush in where angels fear to tread” his Father would tell him dismissively, along with the back handed reminder that without the brains, at least he had the beauty. He did, but he never had respect, and in such ill-structured nests, so grows the vanity, and doubt.

Malak would gather thousands of elite specialists to his mansion. Neurosurgeons, trend futurists, gurus, physic manipulators, robotic engineers, combat masters, stem cell architects. Some say it was the largest collection of brain power ever gathered in the history of man. And this is what Malak told them.

“Oh hey. So, I’m like an angel. But also a bad boy. And I need to fly. And my hair needs to perfect. And I need to get up to the top of mountains quick. Oh I want to be tough. Ok thanks.”

Collectively dumfounded, but funded beyond belief, the team would categorically congregate, and design a new and improved Malak Ali.

They would find him unappreciated work on short lived reality shows, 3rd round exits from TV talent programs, poorly acted appearances on C movies, and oddly, scientific journals due to his advanced teleporting abilities. And this is where Daemon would discover him, an untapped asset lost in the blanket of insecurity.

Malak never needed attention or worship, he needed guidance, and purpose, and trust. And then confidence and respect would follow. And Daemon saw that.

So with open arms, Daemon would then invite Malak to join the Bleeding Edge and take him under his wing. The team would mentor Malak in combat, and even learn from Malak’s simplistic of way of thinking. Well, maybe that’s a stretch, but it does make a nice end to the story.
——

  • Abusive Parents: His parents were nothing but neglectful towards him and his father told him to his face that the only good thing about him was his beauty.
  • Ambiguously Gay: His character profile states that it was specifically the admiration of other beautiful men that encouraged him to pursue his celebrity daredevil career.
  • Combat Medic: He's a support character, but he can dish out some pretty good damage as well.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: Of the Proud Beauty and the Brainless Beauty. Azrael was told his whole life that the only thing about him that had any worth was his looks. So he laser-focused on that and went to extremes to become an idol, in a desperate attempt to gain some form of affection from someone.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: His motivation behind his self-augmentation and obsession with his looks. No one at home ever showed him any affection and it didn't get much better after he got his wings. A major reason he joined Bleeding Edge was that Daemon was the first one to finally offer him the emotional support he needed.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Azrael's family acted aloof towards him for most of his life and he never seemed to have any friends before Bleeding Edge.
  • Meaningful Name: In christian mythology, "Azrael" is the angel of death and the closest thing the bible has to the Grim Reaper. Fitting name for a Combat Medic with an angel motif.
  • Razor Wings: Wing Spurs has Azrael use his metal wings to stab and slice at enemies.
  • Life Drain: His passive ability Soul Eater applies damage to an enemy over time, after they're attacked with Wing Spurs and simultaneously heals Azrael.
  • Wind from Beneath My Wings: Azrael's super Wing Blast has him unleash a gush of wind with his wings that pushes back and slows enemies.
  • Winged Humanoid: His augmentations look like angel wings.

     Kulev

Dr. Ignatius Wright/Kulev

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/be_2.PNG

The eccentric Dr. Ignatius Wright was a renowned professor of history at Cambridge University.

Pushed by his passion in the culture of Voodoo, Dr. Wright would travel the world, absorbing the lore, perfecting the practices, and chasing immortality. And it worked, until age 126.

In accordance with Wright’s last Will and Testament, his subconscious was granted to friend and maverick computer scientist, Sterling Taylor, for experimentation. And it worked.

His soul was digitised, reborn into data, and configured into an oddity. An automated snake that clumsily parades the mummified cadaver of Dr. Wright to feign inconspicuousness. It did not work. Officially considered “deceased” and ejected from his lifetime employment with the university, Kulev now seeks the services of kindred spirit Daemon, to join their common forces and extend the life and plight of humanity.

     Miko

Miko

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/be_10.PNG

Despite being born into harsh conditions and relative poverty, Miko grew up happy, in a loving extended family unit, rich with their Xhosa ancestral heritage.

As a young girl, she mastered her clan’s ruthless fighting techniques under her grandfather’s guidance. She would endlessly educate herself in her people’s traditions and rituals.

But when Miko was diagnosed with a deadly new plague virus, she reluctantly left her family for the chance of a cure via experimental nanobot treatment. Little did she know what she was signing up for. They would augment and encage her, torment and enrage her, but genetic resiliency would soon fuel a spirited Miko. She would have her freedom, and on escaping the H.A. facilities would be whisked to safety by a young man in a demon mask.

     Zero Cool

Musaazi "Zero Cool" Zelev

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/be_12.PNG

Under the rusted roofs of Rio’s ruins, a dust covered toddler with endless energy named Musaazi Zelev lost himself in his first video game and saw into his future.

A life that would grow him into a tech prodigy, a phenom hacker, and finally a famed pro gamer under the mnemonic moniker of Zero Cool. With success at his fingertips, Zero Cool’s newfound wealth feeds his impoverished friends and family, while his insatiable ego over-eats off the super-sized celebrity. Armed with self-designed augments, looking for a new game to dominate, the outspoken teenager wants more. And he’ll find it at the Bleeding Edge.

  • The Ace: He's a celebrated pro gamer, an incredible hacker and just massively talented with tech in general.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: He's the youngest human Bleeding Edge-member at 16 years. The only one younger than him is Mekko (10), but Mekko is, you know, a dolphin. Though you could argue he shares this spot with Gizmo, who is only a year older.
  • Blue Is Heroic: He wears a blue track suit with white stripes and has been using the income from his pro-gaming carrier to support his friends and family in the slums.
  • Competition Freak: The reason he joined Bleeding Edge. He wanted a new challenge and pro-gaming just didn't cut it anymore.
  • Godlike Gamer: Was a celebrated pro-gamer before he joined Bleeding Edge. His specials and supers often reference gaming pop-culture and his augments look like a very elaborate gamer-chair.
  • Famed In-Story: He was a popular celebrity even before Bleeding Edge, thanks to his pro-gaming career.
  • I Know Mortal Kombat: He had absolutely no combat-experience prior to joining Bleeding Edge, yet had no trouble holding his own once he entered the ring. Justified, because his augments do most of the fighting.
  • Improbable Age: He's 16 years old in the games' present. Only one year younger than Gizmo.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: His special "Firewall" erects an impenetrable wall wherever he wants. This allows him to either shield himself and others or cut off his opponents' escape routes.

Tank characters

     El Bastardo

El Bastardo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/be_5.PNG

No one knows the dark past of the embittered, grim warrior called El Bastardo. Only fragments of this lone wolf’s story, half-truths and rumours, exist.

Some say he was the illegitimate son of a Cartel Sicario, others that he stalked Mexico’s underworld as a one-man vigilante militia, or that he was once a decorated soldier left for dead by his own commanders and is now out for revenge.

Only one thing is certain: those who cross him in the arena must face a lethal whirlwind of blades and an unstoppable fighter who acts without mercy.

  • Cyborg: The machine providing his Life Support is built into his body as opposed to him carrying it on his back.
  • Death from Above: Leap of Faith lets him leap onto a targeted enemy, stunning them in the process.
  • Life Drain: Empower steals life from nearby enemies and grants energy to Life Support shields.
  • Machete Mayhem: He wields two machetes and is a dangerous street brawler with a Mysterious Past.
  • Manly Facial Hair: Has a magnificent beard and is a nigh unstoppable vigilante.
  • Mysterious Past: No one knows where he came from or who he really is. Speculations range from him being a former soldier who was left behind by his comrades and is now on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge, to him being the illegitimate son of a cartel boss.
  • Super Mode: Unbreakable lets him become invincible for a short time, with the duration extending the more damage he deals.

     Buttercup

Angelica "Buttercup" Butters

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/be_3.PNG

As Angelica Butters soared through gridlock atop her motorcycle, the sassy Cajun knew she had found her calling. It was her 19th birthday, life was good, and also the last day she would walk again.

After the crash, life would change for the one they called Buttercup, but love would rule. The religious community that raised her, the biking community, and friends and family would rally around her. But she still couldn’t ride.

So when she learned of black market augmentations that could put her atop a chopper once again, she moved fast. But such augments were not accepted in the religious community, and so she fled atop her rubber wheel.

She would live life on the southern road, doing crime to survive, fighting the foolish to make money to advance her makeshift augments. When the Skeleton Key was released, her modifications blossomed, and she knew she had to meet the stranger in New York City who had released it.

  • Big Beautiful Woman: Wears an outfit that reveals quite a bit of her cleavage and is a lot chubbier than the other female characters on the roster.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: She loves bringing down the hurt on her opponents and she's sure to let them know it.
  • Chainsaw Good: Her primary weapons are saw blades that she can use for fighting as well as for driving.
  • Charged Attack: Launch which does more damage and lasts for a longer timespan the longer you spin up the backwheel.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: With Launch Buttercup can continuously ram into enemies and take them with her via shoulder barge.
  • Pink Is Feminine: Her hair and the exhaust fumes of her biker parts are pink and she's not shy about showing off her assets.
  • Status Buff: Turbo Charged temporarily increases her attack, lifesteal and max HP.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Buttercup is a Badass Biker who rocks a multitude of tattoos and fights for fun and who also loves the color pink, wears mutliple cute accessories and is very flirtatious.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: Her community rejected her because of her augmentations, forcing her to flee and live on the streets in order to keep them. Bleeding Edge is the only home she has left.
  • You Will Not Evade Me: Yank lets her chain an enemy and pull them towards her.

     Makutu

Makutu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/be_8.PNG

As the only child of his mum’s second marriage and the youngest of 7 step brothers and sisters, Makutu always felt a little bit left out. Not because they didn’t love him to bits, but because while they were all tall, strong and athletic, he was so very small.

He loved to train in meditation with his dad, and he could school them all at fighting games or ping-pong, but all he really wanted was to be big, and tough, and play rugby, like his siblings. So at age 16, with the support of his family Makutu underwent augmentation. Makutu loved his new body. He felt like it finally matched his inner self. He’d go to the gym to pump iron, help out in the community, and of course, play rugby. But he always felt himself holding back, worried about hurting his friends or teammates. He needed a new way to test himself. A place to unleash his full unbridled strength.

  • The Baby of the Bunch: He's the youngest out of 7 step brothers and sisters.
  • The Big Guy: Not always. Before getting his augments, he was the smallest in his family. But with them? Absolutely.
  • Gentle Giant: He's mild-mannered and unfailingly polite.
  • Nice Guy: He is unrelentingly chipper and polite. Even Cass can't sour his mood!
Cass: Your smile is your weakness.
Makutu: Nah, it makes my cheeks muscular! Hehe!
  • Stance System: Makutu's fighting style makes use of two stances. At launch he had access to Pepeke Stance and Ora Stance, but as of the 30/7/2020 patch he no longer has access to Pepeke Stance, with it having been replaced with Huaki Stance.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: His torso and shoulders are noticeably more bulky than his legs. Justified, due to his entire upper body having been augmented.
  • Vocal Dissonance: With a body and build like that, you certainly wouldn't expect him to sound as soft and polite as he does. Justified, since his current body isn't his actual body and the voice was probably a lot more fitting when he was still tiny.

     Mekko

Mekko

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/be_9.PNG

Once upon a time in 2045, a baby dolphin named Mekko was born. Cuter than a billion buttons, the bright eyed and split tailed mini-mammal had a whole life ahead of him.

A life of captivity and torture, as living property of a devious corporation, being slowly modified into a biological sonic weapon, the sole survivor of binary communication experimentation, to cause destruction and agony as his sole purpose in life… just like the rest of the oceanic experiments encaged around him. Yay!

Mekko was doomed. Why Mekko? Mekko mad. BAD HUMANS!

But not all humans are evil, and the Bleeding Edge would prove true. They would rescue the marinated chatterbox and shut down all the psychotic aquatic bionic operations.

But Mekko confused. Mekko HATE the humans. But new humans are… family.

So while this odd pod of misfits sought similar vengeance on H.A., Mekko’s new life of trash-talking and crab-walking would begin.

  • Advancing Wall of Doom: Surge turns him into one by having him rush forward and knock back and damage any enemies in his path.
  • Animal Stereotypes: He's an adorable dolphin whose cute face hides a much more devious personality and who has managed to weaponize his echo-location.
  • Anti-Regeneration: When a power orb is activated, Safety Zone will reduce the healing received by enemies inside it's area of effect.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: At 10 years old he's the youngest non-human member in Bleeding Edge.
  • Barrier Warrior: Bubble Block lets him create a shield in the form of a bubble around himself that absorbs damage and charges up his power orbs. If Lifeline is activated while he does it, the currently tethered team member will gain a shield too.
  • Charged Attack: As mentioned in Draw Aggro, his bubble shield allows him to charge up two powers orbs when attacked that grant significant power-ups and perks to his specials.
  • Covered in Scars: Due to H.A. experimenting on him when he was still young.
  • Draw Aggro: When Bubble Block is activated, enemy players might be tempted to attack in order to destroy or deplete your shield for good. This lets you charge your power orbs, which in turn makes Mekko's specials a lot more effective.
  • Fantastic Racism: Mekko despised humans before Bleeding Edge rescued him from H.A. He seems to have gotten over it in the present, as his profile states that he sees Bleeding Edge as his family.
  • Heroic Dolphin / Devious Dolphins: He's currently a member of an illegal fighting ring, but since said fighting ring is actively rebelling against a corrupt MegaCorp that tortured and used him since he was born, he leans slightly more towards the heroic than the devious.
  • Killer Rabbit: A cute baby dolphin who can rip people apart with his giant mech and sonic powers.
  • Machine Monotone: Mekko's mech speaks in this manner whenever he translates for Mekko.
  • Make Me Wanna Shout:
    • Sonar Gun is Mekko's primary weapon that does Exactly What It Says on the Tin. It fires small sonic blasts.
    • Sonic Barrage lets you fire multiple sonic blasts at enemies, damaging them and pushing them back in the process.
  • Sapient Cetaceans: Mekko is just as smart and capable of coherent thought as the other members of Bleeding Edge.
  • Status Buff: Safety Zone grants both Mekko and every team mate standing close enough armor and lifesteal.
  • The Unintelligible: He's a dolphin, so he himself can't actually speak.
  • Spider Tank: His mech has four spider-like appendages it moves around on.
  • No-Sell: Exclusion Bubble traps enemies and renders them completely helpless in an instant. With a well-placed Surge they can be pushed off the map or into an environmental hazard.
  • Powers Do the Fighting / Clothes Make the Superman: Mekko is completely reliant on his mecha and sonic-powers for fighting, since he's an aquatic animal and wouldn't be able to move without them.
  • Power Glows: When full charged, the two power orbs on his mech will light up.
  • Regenerating Health:
    • Using Surge whilst having power orbs active allows him to regain some of his HP.
    • Safety Zone grants Mekko and any allies standing in it lifesteal.
