    Rei

  • Ambiguously Human: Due to their Mysterious Past, it is only assumed they are human, but they could be something else entirely.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Rei does not remember their past.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: If Rei sees someone in trouble, they will make no hesitation to save them from their predicament.
  • Clap Your Hands If You Believe: Since their power of observation is even stronger than normal Observers, they are able to make others stronger and/or weaker by believing in them. For example in the final battle of chapter 5 Another Dark Mai was at first invincible due to how much Rei believed they were unable to defeat her until Rei started to believe they could beat her thanks to seeing the efforts of their allies, which depowers Another Dark Mai and empowers their allies instead.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: While their default name is the gender-neutral Rei, the player is free to choose whatever their name is.
  • Heroic Mime: Aside from dialogue options, they are completely silent.
  • The Leader: They are the leader of the party they become a part of in chapter 5 due to being the most neutral member of the team.
  • Magnetic Hero: They are able to gather many allies native to the Phantom Field they travel through.
  • Purely Aesthetic Gender: While the player can choose their gender, it has no effect in the special events or story with even Spectacles of Eros event being the same due to their power as an Observer causing people of both genders to be attracted to them.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: As Ciel explained, Rei will never lose the memories they experienced in Phantom Fields due to them being observed by the Takamagahara system.
  • School Uniforms are the New Black: They wear the standard uniform of the Mage's Guild.
  • Story Branch Favoritism: The opening only showcases the male Rei.
  • Summon Magic: In combination with Ciel's ability to organize and salvage data, Rei's End Gazer Drive can be used to summon Chrono Phantasma to fight for them.
  • Support Party Member: Rei lacks combat abilities on their own, so instead they either have Chrono Phantasmas fighting for them or empower their allies through Observation.
  • Trapped in Another World: Rei's story begins with somehow being trapped in a Phantom Field of Trinity Glassfile. This happens once again in Chapter 5 where they are stranded in the Phantom Field of Zechs without Ciel, which is why Clavis Alucard asked Juusan to save them.
  • Unwanted Harem: In one event, they are wearing the Spectacles of Eros as an experiment by Kokonoe. However, due to their powers as an Observer, they end up attracting people from both genders.

A member of the Mitsurugi Agency, who works under Kagami Hajou and is assigned as Rei's bodyguard. Traveling through the Phanton Fields within the Boundary, she seeks and shuts down Cauldrons with the BlazBlue Alternative she wields.

  • 11th-Hour Costume Change: When she finally is able to breach the Phantom Field in chapter 5 she switches her normal uniform for a jumpsuit similar to Nu's and Lambda's to showcase how much she prepared herself to save Rei.
  • Artificial Human: Unsurprisingly the main heroine* is another Prime Field Device. Although we don't exactly know what model she is and what her functions are.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Once she finally manages to reach the Phantom Field, Rei is trapped in, her appearance turns the tide of the battle, which Rei's team was losing due to the dirty tactics of the opposing team.
  • Blank Slate: Similar to Lambda, her likes and dislikes are both "Don't know" due to needing experiences to learn what they will become.
  • Bodyguard Babes: She acts as Rei's bodyguard.
  • Deus Exit Machina: Her separation at the beginning of Chapter 5 prevents Rei from being able to use their Drive to summon Chrono Phantasma along with lacking a fighter strong enough to fight against Another Dark Mai.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She initially saw Rei as someone to protect as part of her job, but eventually grew to genuinely care about them.
  • Idiot Hair: She has an ahoge on her head.
  • Ms. Exposition: She explains to Rei how things work in the Phantom Fields and the Mitsurugi Agency.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: She will never lose the memories she experienced in Phantom Fields due to being observed by the Takamagahara system.
  • Summon Magic: In combination with Rei's End Gazer Drive, Ciel can use her ability to salvage and organize data to summon Chrono Phantasma to fight for them.

“…I see. Then you shall fall into the Hell called “possibility” as well.”

A mysterious character who appears at the very end of Central Fiction, asking Rachel Alucard if she still wants to make good on a "Promise."

A possibility of Tsubaki Yayoi. She has lived for an unknown amount of time and aims for the complete eradication of what she deems as evil. She travels between the Phantom Fields to exact her justice while wielding the Sealed Weapon Izayoi.

  • Alternate Self: White Justice is a possibility of Tsubaki, who lost her friends, Noel and Makoto, and dedicated everything to Justice.
  • BFS: On her back is a sword that is just as long as her height, which she uses in her Astral Heat.
  • Broken Bird: What caused this possibility of Tsubaki to drift is the death of the version of Noel and Makoto from her world.
  • Cool Sword: She still wields the Izayoi, but its shape has changed into what resembles the Ookami.
  • Cyborg: Has had so many upgrades done to herself over the years that she barely qualifies as human anymore.
  • Dimensional Traveler: She travels through many Phantom Fields to defeat evil and exact her justice.
  • Distaff Counterpart: Is one towards Hakumen due to being a former human turned machine/cyborg, who dedicates everything to justice after the death(s) of people they cared about.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She first appeared (albeit obscured) in the post-credits scene of Central Fiction before making her proper debut in Alternative: Dark War.
  • Empathic Weapon: She is able to travel through the Boundary without any ill effects thanks to the Izayoi Observing her constantly.
  • For Great Justice: She lives for both justice and to punish evil throughout many Phantom Fields.
  • Foreshadowing: When Naoto mistakes Hakumen for an "ally of justice" he had encountered earlier, Hakumen dismisses him as an idiot. Turns out there really WAS someone else running around with what appears to be the Ookami.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: While her armor and weaponry resemble those of Hakumen, they are actually the form the Izayoi takes on.
  • Instant Costume Change: She is able to instantly change from her "Hakumen"-esque battle armor to civilian clothing and vice versa.
  • Last Episode, New Character: For a given definition of "new". Tsubaki Yayoi has appeared in Blazblue games since the beginning, but this character is an Alternate Self of her.
  • Mind Screw: This character is very clearly Tsubaki Yayoi, but we see her working with Makoto at the Library at Central Fiction's end. Whether she is actually in the Susanoo Unit or not is also left ambiguous, due to the Scenery Censor listed below. BlazBlue Alternative: Dark War reveals that this is Tsubaki Yayoi from an Alternate Timeline, and she isn't in the Susanoo Unit but the Izayoi upgraded to the point where she can safely travel through the Boundary and no longer needs to eat or sleep.
  • The Needless: Due to the number of upgrades her body went through she does not need to eat or sleep especially the former due to how much it reminds her of her deceased friend, Noel.
  • No Name Given: She's not given an actual name. All we know is that she used to be called Tsubaki Yayoi. However, datamining has found that their dialogue is listed under the name Izayoi but that doesn't confirm anything. BlazBlue Alternative: Dark War reveals that she's Tsubaki Yayoi from an Alternate Timeline but answers to Tokiwa Camelia now.
  • Point of Divergence: Her possibility came into existence when her versions of Noel and Makoto died.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Much like Izayoi her eyes are red, which is due to having the Izayoi constantly on due to modifications through her body.
  • Scenery Censor: In Central Fiction, most of her body or face is not shown, courtesy of a giant oak tree. All that is shown is her hair and sword.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Shows up at Ragna's grave with the sole intention of killing Rachel, but relents immediately when it's clear that Rachel can't even remember him, even calling the crying Rachel "pitiful."
  • That Man Is Dead: As revealed in Alternative Dark War she no longer answers to the name Tsubaki Yayoi. She now goes by White Justice when on the job and Tokiwa Camelia when not.
  • Time Abyss: She doesn't age anymore, so no one can be sure how long she's been doing this. Even she's forgotten.

A possibility of Mai with a Calamity Factor included within her existence. With more power and a monstrous appearance, fighting became her sole reason for living and traveling through the Phantom Fields on behalf of someone.

  • Alas, Poor Villain: Despite her insanity and the fact she was trying to kill them, both Shiori and Noel, pity her and wonder how a version of Mai was transformed into the insane monstrosity that is Another Dark Mai.
  • Alternate Self: She is a possibility of Mai with a Calamity Factor included within her existence, which makes her violent and battle-hungry.
  • Amnesiac Resonance: In her own event she works with and protects Rei due to losing her memory, but still retains her aggressive behavior and personality.
  • Artifact of Doom: The Calamity Factor inside her is a part of the Black Beast.
  • Ax-Crazy: She revels in violence and fights whoever is in front of her.
  • Blood Knight: She considers fighting to be her only reason for living. She is outright ecstatic even when facing off against the Gigant: Take-Mikazuchi Juusan summoned with her even stating that the victory will allow her to kill even gods.
  • Evil Makes You Monstrous: The Calamity Factor gave her a demonic appearance, which she dislikes.
  • Facial Markings: She has red markings on her face making her look just as violent as her demeanor.
  • Field Power Effect: While already strong on her own, she becomes even stronger the closer she is to a Cauldron.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite how much of a crazy blood knight she looks like, her dislike for mirrors implies that she does not like her transformation.
  • I Shall Taunt You: In their battle, she taunts Juusan by calling her a "doll".
  • Mirror Match: The opening shows her facing off against the main timeline Mai.
  • One-Man Army: She is so strong that she slaughtered everyone, who crosses her path in chapter 5 with Juusan being the only person in Rei's team who could keep up with her with Drei outright stating he can barely even see their movements and they would only slow their teammate down if they joined the fight. She becomes even stronger when near a Cauldron, where it takes the combined might of Ciel, Jin, and Juusan, who had to summon Take-Mikazuchi, to take her down in the end.
  • Point of Divergence: She came into existence when a possibility of Mai came into contact with a Calamity Factor.
  • Psycho for Hire: She works with Babel simply for the promise of a good fight.
  • Rage Against the Reflection: She dislikes mirrors due to not liking to see her own appearance.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Her eyes are noticeably more blood-colored compared to her regular counterpart, and she's a lot bloodthirstier.
  • Stripperific: Her outfit gives her a cleavage window along with showing off her sides.
  • Tragic Monster: Her own event implies that she was once like the mainline Mai having gone through the events of Remix Heart and Variable Heart until the Calamity Factor transformed her into the insane blood knight she is today.
  • Virtue Is Weakness: She considers friendship worthless and sees friends as shackles that prevent her from fighting at full power. Despite this, she does protect Rei in her own event.
  • Wild Card: In the tournament of Chapter 5, she is an unaffiliated fighter wandering the battlefield, who fights and kills whoever crosses her path.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Due to the Calamity Factor's corrupting influence, she became insanely violent along with the amount of power it gives her.

    Another Dark Kagura

  • Dislikes: Matters that are unclear

A possibility of Kagura Mutsuki, who dedicates his entire being to the battlefield, Ikaruga, and the Imperator, Homura Amanohokosaka.

  • Alternate Self: He is a possibility of Kagura, who devoted everything to the battlefield, Ikaruga, and Homura Amanohokosaka.
  • Blood Knight: He loves a good fight and is disappointed if his opponent can't keep up with his overwhelming strength.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Before appearing in Alternative: Dark War, Mori showed a sketch of him on Twitter nearly four years before his official reveal.
  • Eyepatch of Power: His left eye is covered in bandages.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Unlike Another Dark Mai, his hobbies, likes, and dislikes still remain exactly the same as the mainline Kagura.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Instead of using a BFS like his mainstream self, Another Dark Kagura uses two Red Katanas and a Kodachi.
  • Mysterious Past: Due to lacking an event focussing on him, there is no information on how he came into being aside from that it caused to fanatically devote himself to Ikaruga and the Imperator.
  • One-Man Army: Just like the original Kagura, this one can take on an entire army single-handedly. His official profile even says this directly.
  • Out of Focus: Due to the game's cancellation after a year, no event focusing on him was created with him only making an appearance in Homura's.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: In contrast to Kagura's purple eyes.
  • Red Right Hand: His left arm is pure red ending with a monstrous maw instead of a normal hand.
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards Homura for whom he is willing to follow their every wish no matter what.

  • Date of Birth: December 31, 2199

JP: Kanako Kondo
A mysterious girl wandering the Boundary by herself. Within there, she searches for someone or something for a purpose she does not know herself.

  • The Ace: She takes this role as part of the team formed in Chapter 5 due to by far being their strongest member and the only one capable of keeping up with Another Dark Mai.
  • Aloof Ally: She certainly gives the impression of one considering due to her less-than-friendly personality. She is a somewhat downplayed example since she has no problem working with others with Taro and Drei being surprised at her accepting the former's proposal to form a team together without any hesitation.
  • Alternate Self: Subverted; While she appears similar to Another Dark Mai and Another Dark Kagura, who are both alternate selfs of the mainline Mai and Kagura with drastically different looks and/or personality, her event makes it apparent that she is the same Nu introduced since the series began.
  • And Now for Someone Completely Different: "Thirteenth Traces" only focuses on herself with neither Rei nor Ciel appearing at all. The event acts as a way to introduce her to the audience along with confirming she is the same Nu after Central Fiction rather than an Alternate Self with the last part also serving as a prologue to chapter 5.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: She observes and interprets the rules or intentions of the Phantom Fields she travels in to figure out the Observer's goals. This allows her to easily figure out the rules of the tournament of chapter 5 by observing the battle Taro and Shiori went through.
  • Badass Boast: While initially refusing to help Rei and Drei with saving Taro and Shiori from thugs that outnumber them. She eventually jumps into the fray herself, but not before giving one to an onlooker, who asks if she wants to bet on someone:
I only make bets I can definitely win. So I bet on... myself.
  • Belated Happy Ending: While Nu's story technically ended in Central Fiction as a bedridden Empty Shell. Her story would continue as the more mentally stable Juusan.
  • BFS: She has a sword that appears to be improvised from her discarded Murakumo Unit and is noted to be rather large in contrast to her small frame by several characters.
  • Blinded by Rage: She was so enraged at the Calamity Factor inside Another Dark Mai that she fought more recklessly, which would have led to her defeat if it wasn't for the intervention of Jin's team.
  • Blood Knight: Downplayed; While she doesn't actively seek out strong opponents, she does like a good fight with her being outright disappointed and annoyed at how weak her opponents are.
  • Bodyguard Babes: As requested by Clavis Alucard, she goes to the Phantom Field Rei is stranded in and essentially takes over Ciel's role as a bodyguard for a good portion of Chapter 5 until Ciel can reach the Phantom Field too.
  • Brutal Honesty: She outright said to Rei's face that she would consider them "garbage" if they stayed unconscious on the ground.
  • Came Back Strong: Downplayed in that she didn't die, but she's managed to recover from being a completely broken husk shown at the end of Central Fiction.
  • Coat Cape: She wears what appears to be Ragna's coat as a mantle.
  • Combat Stilettos: She wears white shoes with high heels, but they don't get in the way of her mobility and she even uses them to kick into her opponents.
  • Declaration of Protection: She does this twice in Chapter 5. The first one is telling Rei she will protect them upon accepting them into her team. Later on, she gives a longer one upon seeing how worried Rei is about their friends, who are desperately trying to reach them. She promises to protect Rei until their friends arrive and even uses the same words Ragna once told to her in the past.
    "I'll save you"
  • Dimensional Traveler: She travels through the Boundary and its various Phantom Fields in search of something and can do so without any ill effects thanks to being a Prime Field Device.
  • Discard and Draw: She stopped using Lux Santus: Murakumo in favor of using only one of its blades as a traditional sword along with summoning Gigant: Take Mikazuchi as her Astral Heat.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": She does like being called by her former name "Nu".
  • Doppelgänger Gets Same Sentiment: In her travels, she sometimes meets other versions of Noel or Lambda, but still sees them as her sisters and is softer to them, unlike others.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She first appeared in the opening of Alternative: Dark War nearly half a year before she became playable.
  • Expository Pronoun: When she was Nu-13, she always referred to herself by her own name. Now, she's using the pronoun watashi to refer to herself, showing how much she has been distancing herself from her past self.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: She no longer has the braid from her time as a Murakumo unit showing her attempts to distance herself from her past.
  • Friend to All Living Things: She is fond of animals, as shown on the card "New Encounters" in which a bird rests on her hand, and her event "Thirteenth Traces" in which she pets and feeds a kitten. This may stem from the mysterious white bird with red and green eyes, she saw resting on her window during her time in the church.
  • Heroic RRoD: While it only has a fraction of the original's power, summoning Gigant: Take-Mikazuchi still takes a huge amount of energy with Noel noting how exhausted she looks after the battle.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: She is the tiny girl standing only at 155 cm while Drei, the huge guy, towers over her at nearly 2 meters. The two of them teamed up in chapter 5 due to both of them wanting to meet up with the "Ashen King" of the Phantom Field. The duo would later meet and team up with Rei.
  • I Hate Past Me: She hates remembering her past life and she has some semblance of self-hatred over that.
  • I Will Find You: It appears she is searching for Ragna the Bloodedge, but does not know that herself.
  • I'm Crying, but I Don't Know Why: In Trinity's Phantom Field, she suddenly sheds tears upon seeing the Grand Clock, but does not know why she is suddenly becoming so emotional.
  • Irony:
    • Back when she was Nu-13 all she desired was destruction and fuse with Ragna to become the Black Beast, which is why she hated the fact he wanted to save people including her. Now she is essentially Ragna's unofficial successor as a sword-wielding wanderer, who saves Observers trapped in the Phantom Fields she travels in. Not to mention her hatred towards Calamity Factors, which are pieces of the Black Beast she once wanted to become.
    • Even though she debuted in a spin-off, she rather resembles other Multi Slot Charactersnote . However while their variations are them in their super modes, Juusan is the opposite by being Nu without the Murakumo Unit.
  • Jerkass to One: While she is normally aloof to others, she is more hostile and snarky to Naoto Kurogane as a Call-Back to Central Fiction in which she snapped at him for being similar to Ragna yet not being him.
  • Little Sister Instinct: Her care for her sisters also includes alternate versions of them with her going to a Phantom Field another version of Lambda created out of worry that Kagami and Kokonoe were using her as part of an experiment.
  • Meaningful Name: Juusan is Japanese for thirteen. As in, Nu-13.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: Her right eye throbs whenever a threat appears near her like Seithr beasts trying to ambush her.
  • Of Corsets Sexy: The only thing covering her top is a corset accentuating her slim body.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: She's every bit as strong as she was in the previous games, but instead of using Lux Sanctus: Murakumo she now uses Gigant: Take-Mikazuchi.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite not liking to be involved with the Alucard Clan, she still accepts Clavis Alucard's request to save and protect Rei along with consoling them on their loneliness.
  • Phlebotinum Rebel: In her journey, she also seeks and destroys Calamity Factors, which are essentially pieces of the Black Beast. Even though as a Prime Field Device she is a component of creating one and as Jin notes she is essentially the same as Another Dark Mai a being with a Calamity Factor included within her existence.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: She has blood-red eyes and is a force to be reckoned with, but she is no longer an Omnicidal Maniac.
  • Redemption Promotion: Unlike her time as Nu-13 in which she acted as an Unwitting Pawn under the control or manipulation of the villains, she is now a fully independent being capable of making her own decisions along with having the ability to use Gigant: Take-Mikazuchi's power.
  • Restoration of Sanity: The madness that overwhelmed her being as Nu-13 is gone, allowing her to become a calmer person able to have thoughts and activities that don't include Ragna.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: Most likely due to her self-observation and having willingly traveled to the Phantom Field of the King of Ashes, she still remembers the events of Chapter 5 unlike the other contestants, who forget about everything upon returning to their original worlds.
  • Same Character, But Different: It is not much of an exaggeration to say that she is essentially the opposite of how she was as Nu-13 going from an insane cackling yandere to a cool, calm, and aloof wanderer. This makes sense since without her obsession with Ragna overwhelming her entire being, she was able to grow as her own person separate from both her past self and sisters.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Swears just as much, if not even more so, as Ragna.
  • The Strategist: From her profile: Hobbies: Shogi, thinking of strategies... Ironic, since she was quite The Brute in her past.
  • Stripperiffic: Save for her jacket and thigh highs, she's wearing what is basically a bikini.
  • Suddenly Shouting: When coming across an unconscious Rei, she first tries to wake them up calmly, only to start shouting once that fails, which does work.
  • Teleportation Sickness: Whenever she arrives in a new Phantom Field, she will eventually go unconscious for a period of time, which forces her to find a safe place to rest.
  • That Man Is Dead: She discarded her old identity of Nu in favor of her current one.
  • Throwing Your Sword Always Works: Her Distortion Drive has her throwing her sword against the enemy like a buzzsaw and then Flash Step behind them for another attack.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: While she is noted to be rather aloof, she is still much nicer compared to her time as Nu. Considering she went from an Omnicidal Maniac, who hates everything besides Ragna, to a Friend to All Living Things who genuinely sees Noel and Lambda as her sisters and is willing to save Observers trapped in Phantom Fields.
  • Walking Spoiler: It is very hard to talk about her without spoiling the fact that she is the same Nu present since the series started instead of an alternate version of her.
  • Wistful Amnesia: While Ragna erased her memories of him, she knows she is missing something, which causes her to start traveling the Boundary to look for him although she does remember some of his words and actions such as the words "I'll save you.".
  • "X" Marks the Hero: She has an 'X'-shaped scar over her clavicle, which used to be where her crest was.
  • You Remind Me of X: She reminds Rei of Ciel due to both of them making a Declaration of Protection towards them.
