    Rock

Black★Rock Shooter

A girl who watches over Hazama.

  • A-Cup Angst: When Let tells Io that eating carrots will make her bustier, Rock swallows an entire piece. And she strangles Ron for calling her flat-chested during their "ventriloquist act".
  • Berserk Button: Flips out when she hears the word "Disappear". The reason? Some bullies burnt her shoulder and leg with cigarettes while chanted the word in her Dark and Troubled Past, only starting to appear as flashes of memories after being in contact with a corrupted soul who died in fire. Before that, she has no reason other than instinct why she hates the word.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: With Ron.
  • Death by Falling Over: Her mortal self died from injuries sustained from being pushed down a flight of stairs.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Eventually.
  • Emotionless Girl: Has difficulty recognizing what "fun" is, and utterly confused why she has tears leaking from her eyes after seeing her previous life. She's not quite content with this, however.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Here, B★RS is called "Rock". She is also the legendary "Black Star".
  • Good Is Not Nice: She knows what her mission is, and she offers no consolation to Reto, who just realized that he's a dead guy all along. She becomes nice through Character Development, to the point that she consoles a fading Dead by acting as her fiance
  • Ill Girl: Her dying self after being pushed by her bullies.
  • Not So Above It All: When Kaede's surroundings take the form of a shopping mall, Rock immediately starts putting together an ensemble for the planned Love Confession to Dead.
  • Rage Against the Mentor / Broken Pedestal: To Ram after being forced to kill Dead.
  • Shinigami: Her role is fairly close to one, in that she makes sure souls aren't trapped in Hazama.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She's easily the most emotive B★RS, though she has an air of stoicism to her.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Rock is somewhat lacking in emotions at the start of the manga. When they start kicking in, so does this trope.
  • When She Smiles: Though she's a lot more emotive than most other incarnations.
  • You Are Number 6: It's revealed that she isn't the only Black Shooter. To be exact, she's number 01451.

    Ron

Ron

A sort of snake-like being, he forms a sort of partnership as a sort of physical manifestation of Rock's powers.

  • A-Cup Angst: Not him, but he loves teasing Rock for being flat-chested.
  • Bishounen: In Rock's pseudo-Stagnant Soul's barrier, He's this. He says that the form is Rock's idealized vision of him.
  • BFS: He can take the form of the iconic cannon of the franchise.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: With Rock.

    Dead

Dead Master

A mysterious, ominous person who approaches Rock at the end of the first chapter.

  • Bi the Way: She has more than a few Les Yay moments with Rock, but she has a husband.
  • Cute and Psycho: Dead Master is pretty much adorable. But she eats souls.
  • Despair Event Horizon: After Chapter 10's Wham Line
  • Extreme Omnivore: Her soul-devouring tendencies aside, she also ate her teddy bear in her sleep and proceed to eat Rock's hair next. And people are asking why Rock's pig-tails are in an uneven length... After dying, Rock takes up this trait and eats Dead's soul to keep her memory from being burnt off.
  • Happily Married: Her motivation for eating souls is to be strong enough to be revived and reunited with her husband. Turns out, she's been lied to.
  • Les Yay: Pretty much explicitly in love/lust with Rock. She invoked it as she needs Rock's soul to be devoured, she tries to provoke some reaction.
  • Let Them Die Happy: Rock lets Dead seeing her as her husband, spending her last seconds in embrace of her beloved.

    Ram

    Jack

Jack Olie

A mass murderer who feeds on souls who have drifted to Hazama.

  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: Even after he was executed in life, after he dies, he creates a loop to continue killing his victims over and over again.

    Let

Let

A boy who encounters Rock.

    Io

Io

Let's little sister.

  • A-Cup Angst: So much, that Let convinces her to eat the carrots or she would be flat-chested forever.
  • Dead All Along: Unlike Let, she always knew they were dead, but did not care and continued to smile for Let (and later Rock)'s sake.

    Hanako

Hanako Nakamura

A student who lives in a big empty school in Hazama. The school is made entirely of trapped souls.

  • Headphones Equal Isolation: Invoked, as she wore her headphones to block of the voices of her bullies and only her voice she could hear.
  • Traumatic Haircut: She used to have her hair in twin braids. The bullies who tormented her cut her hair with a razor, giving it the dishevelled appearance it has now.

    Cecil

Cecil

A young girl who is frequently abused by her old mother. She and her mother are caught in a loop created by her, because she wants her mother to become kind again like in the old times before her father died.

  • Abusive Parents: Her old mother. It was not out of evil. She was just very stressed.
  • Cooldown Hug: To her mother, before both reconcile and fade away.

  • Snow Means Death: She was beaten to death by her mother in their snowy village.

    Kaede

  • Kiss of Death: Dead gives her one before eating her soul.

A humanoid golem who founded the Black Star army.

  • Gonk: He is a golem, has a rocky skin, and a head resembling a rook chess piece.

    Tiger

Tiger

A stagnant soul found in the bamboo forest area of the Threshold. It takes the form of a tiger.

  • No Name Given: As it is suspected to be a stagnant soul of an animal and not of a human's, it is merely known as "Tiger".
