Boonboomgers

Characters in Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger
The tension is booming! Bursting out for a spin! Bakuage Sentai, Boonboomger! From left to right:

A freelance courier team of "professionals" dedicated to delivering all sorts of odds-and-ends, formed by Bundorio and Taiya in order to fulfil a certain "dream" of theirs. They also work as Earth's defenders, protecting the planet from the Hashiriyan when they eventually arrive.

    General Tropes

Equipment voiced by: Rica Matsumoto (Core Team, Champion Changer), Natsuki Hanae (Bun Violet), Masaaki Endoh (Zoonzoom Shokablaster)

  • All Your Powers Combined:
    • In #25, almost every single Boonboom Car introduced thus far is combined to form Boonboom Full Throttle Edition in a last-ditch attempt to finally kill Cannonborg.
    • The Champion power-up emphasizes the team's unity, with the Jackets having each Boonboomger's helmet visor drawn on them, and the finisher being activated when four Boonboomgers lend their powers to the fifth one. It also comes with the "Customize Mode", which lets the Boonboomgers customize their weapons with abilities related to the ten Boonboom Cars and Boonboom Leo Rescue.
      • Cool Sword: The power granted to the Boonboomgers from Classic Customize, which equips them with Boonboom Classic's sword.
      • Guns Akimbo: The power granted to the Boonboomgers from Patrol Car 2 Customize, which equips them with Boonboom Patrol Car 2's pistols.
      • Improvised Weapon: The power granted to the Boonboomgers from Offroad Customize, which equips them with Boonboom Offroad's screwdriver.
      • King of Beasts: The power granted to the Boonboomgers from Leo-Rescue Customize, which summons Boonboom Leon for various attacks.
      • Me's a Crowd: Another power granted to the Boonboomgers from Patrol Car 2, which allows them to create clones of themselves.
      • Playing with Fire: The power granted to the Boonboomgers from Racing Customize, granting them an assortment of fire-related attacks.
      • Power Fist: The power granted to the Boonboomgers from Wagon Customize, which summons a giant hand used as a shield.
      • Shovel Strike: The power granted to the Boonboomgers from Shovel Customize, which equips them with Boonboom Shovel's shovel.
      • Spikes of Doom: The power granted to the Boonboomgers from Patrol Car 1 Customize, which allows them to customize their weapons with spikes.
      • Making a Splash/Threatening Shark: The power granted to the Boonboomgers from Marine Customize, which summons holographic sharks to attack and grants them other water-related abilities.
      • Wolverine Claws: The power granted to the Boonboomgers from Safari Customize, which equips their arms with Boonboom Safari's claws.
  • And the Adventure Continues: The series ends with the core Boonboomgers about to compete in the first round of the BBG and save other planets from Hashiriyan's remnants.
  • Combination Attack: Bakuage Handling Drive:
    • Rod Mode: Bun Red forms a “no entry” street symbol with the Boonboom Handle in Rod Mode. Then Bun Red, Bun Blue and Bun Pink perform charging energy slashes on the target, which send it airborne and right into a red prohibited sign. The target then explodes upon sliding off the sign and onto the ground.
      • Another version includes Bun Black and Bun Orange using the Boonboom Change Axe in Rod & Axe Mode. Then all five Boomboomgers deliver a energy slash to the target in high speed, hitting the monster on the symbol.
    • Gun Mode: Bun Red or Bun Blue shoots bullets to form a “no entry” street symbol in air with the Boonboom Handle in Gun Mode. Bun Red, Bun Blue, Bun Pink then fires energy shots that blast through the target. Afterwards, they use Handle Mode to drive the shots towards the target, hitting the Kurumaju on the symbol.
      • Another version includes Bun Red, Bun Blue and Bun Pink firing energy shots while Bun Black and Bun Orange deliver energy slashes from the Boonboom Change Axe in Axe Mode & Rod Mode that blast through the target. Afterwards, they use the Handle Mode to drive the shots and slashes towards the target, hitting the target on the symbol.
  • Contrasting Sequel Protagonist: The Ohsama Sentai were a group of royalty who lived on another planet and had insects as their mecha. The Boonboomgers are a group of more typical personalities who live on Earth, currently working as a covert courier team and having vehicles as their mecha.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: In regards to Black and Orange's Boonboom Booster. It's got a darker color scheme of gold, black and purple (not so differently from Kiramager's Yodon Changer), resembles a grenade, and Bundorio's voice in the changer sounds gruffer compared to his voice in the core three's changers, but Bun Black and Bun Orange are obviously on the side of good.
  • Determinator: In #9, after the Boonboomgers learn of the true reason behind Taiya's dream, they decide to go and fight Madrex while Taiya is still healing from his injuries, not stopping no matter how many blows the Charge Team Captain deals on them. When Taiya, still injured, comes to their aid, they finally manage to turn the tide on Madrex.
  • Finishing Move: Bakuage Champion Drive: When powered by the other Boonboomgers in Champion Forms, a Boonboomger slashes a glowing Boonboom Handle/Boonboom Change Axe at the target.
  • Fireworks of Victory: In #25, after the Boonboomgers successfully destroy Cannonborg, they enjoy themselves for a fireworks show.
  • Foreshadowing: The Boonboomgers' suits are the first in Sentai history that are modelled after a racecar driver's suit, while previous vehicle-based teams such as Go-onger has the racecar driver's suit be their civilian uniform instead. This ties in to the reveal in #8 that they are not originally meant to be combat suits, but actual racing suits designed for the Big Bang Grand Prix Taiya aims to take part in.
  • Heroic Second Wind: The team gets shellacked after Jyo gets knocked out by Glove Grumer in the first inning, to the point where they're down 118-0 late in the ninth inning. After the team chooses to regroup, they find their resolve, transforming into their Boonboomger forms and utterly curbstomping the Hashiriyans in the process.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: The last half of the final arc sees them subjected to a smear campaign helmed by the ISA and the Hashiriyan that paints them as enemies to the entire world. Luckily, the children that they have interacted with don't buy this at all and encourage them to fight against the Hashiriyan.
  • Instant Expert: According to the first transformation lesson, going with the flow of things to learn how to fight is apparently a built-in feature, which explains how Mira was able to keep up with Taiya and Ishiro on her first day.
  • It's Personal: In #23, the reason the Boonboomgers challenge the Hashiriyans to a baseball match rather than fight head-on is because Jyo can't stand the sight of Glove Grumer destroying the dreams of children and making a mockery of baseball.
  • Let's Split Up, Gang!: As it turns out in #47, the Boonboomgers simply split up to do various tasks needed to bring down the Hashiriyans. To wit:
    • Ishiro turns out to have been working against the ISA from the inside, having gained their confidence to get the Boonboom Cars under his control.
    • Mira agrees to be Spindo's bride, serving as bait to keep him distracted while the others do their work. She also manages to get Spindo to hand over control of the Big Bang Grand Prix to her as her wedding gift in the process, leaving him with less leverage over them.
    • Jyo defeats the Nejiretta with help from the Sanseaters, ensuring they can't be used to terrorize the populace.
    • Genba repurposed his spaceship to become an impromptu barricade, preventing the second wave of Yarucars from exiting Highway Space into Earth.
    • Sakito and Byun-D dismantle the entire fleet of Boonboom Killer Robos.
    • And last but not least, Taiya leaves Bundorio to Shirabe and saves Mira in the nick of time, revealing how they turned the tables on Spindo in the process.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: Red initially gets the Bun Red 119 form exclusive to him. He and the rest of the core team later get the Champion Forms.
  • Passing the Torch: In the end of #12, Sousuke entrusts Earth's/the Human World's protection to the Boonboomgers as the Go-ongers will all be away in Machine World for Machalcon's wedding.
  • Poor Communication Kills: In #8, Genba lets slip that the Boonboomgers were actually formed for Taiya's dream of organizing the BBG (Big Bang Grand Prix), and was surprised that none of this was communicated to Mira, Jyo and Shirabe. Having learnt of this, Mira and Jyo become extremely appalled that the team was formed for a less noble purpose than to defend Earth from the Hashiriyans.
  • Red Baron: Each member has a badass nickname based on their talent.
  • The Reveal:
    • In Boonboomger Formation LAP: The Informer's Secrets (Your Eyes Only), it's revealed that the Boonboomger suits were designed to help the team run the BBG, as the race had grueling conditions that the normal human body couldn't withstand. Also, the reason they have a tire mask is because Taiya thought it would stand out.
    • In #8, Taiya's dream is to hold the "Big Bang Grand Prix", a race held across the universe to see who has the best car. This is the reason why he created the Boonboomgers and the Boonboom Cars in the first place. Understandably, Mira and Jyo are upset that the Boonboomgers were formed for a less-than-altruistic purpose.
    • In #17, Bundorio and Byun-D were once racing teammates in the BBG under the team name "Boonboomger", which is where the current team's name stems from.
  • Rule of Symbolism: In #8, the final shots of the episode show Genba and Ishiro helping Taiya up while Mira and Jyo don’t, a clear representation of who supports Taiya’s dream and who doesn’t.
  • The Scapegoat: In #47, the Sanseaters' act of hijacking a Boonboom Killer Robo and using it to destroy Kurumaju Grumer in the previous episode has been blamed by the ISA on the Boonboomgers as an act of terrorism, despite them having no involvement with it.
  • Super-Speed: A key ability shared by every member is their ability to almost Flash Step wherever they need to in a fight. This also applies to them out-of-suit, which they can access by pressing the main button on their transformation devices.
  • Theme Naming: All of the Boonboomgers' names are puns that are based upon parts of a car.
  • True Companions: They quickly become this over the course of the series, supporting and reassuring one another that they'll always be there no matter the situation.
  • Unlimited Wardrobe: Except for Genba and Sakito, the members' clothing subtly change every episode while sticking to their preferred outfit style.
  • You Are Not Alone: Implied in #43. Even if the Boonboomgers are declared enemies of the world due to their opposition to the Hashiriyans — and Ishiro seemingly has betrayed them to boot — Nicola choosing to send her necklace to them through the Gokaigers (who are themselves no stranger to being declared such) means that in some way, they still have allies rooting for them.

Core members

    Taiya Hando/Bun Red

Portrayed by: Haruhi Iuchi (live), Hirotsugu Mori (suit)
Young Taiya portrayed by: Miyabi Hori

The Couriernote . A master of invention and modification who uses his self-created cars for his job as a deliveryman. Being Secretly Wealthy, when something piques his interest, he will enthusiastically acquire it. He is also a risk-taker who is able to see through the essence of things, has a strong competitive instinct, and makes quick decisions.

As Bun Red, he is skillful with both rods and guns, and is good at creatively fighting to fit the situation.

Tropes applying to him in general

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ggltt_tbmaakgap.jpg
Bun Red!
  • Abuse Discretion Shot: In #45, Taiya's childhood backstory is finally revealed in full, for all that is allowed on television. He hears the cries of a child from the house adjacent to his but did not act on it, until the police arrived one day to ask him questions because something tragic had happened to said child and/or their family, but the show doesn't go into further details on this. It is mainly presumed by viewers that the child had been a victim of severe parental abuse.
  • Affectionate Nickname: His mentor, Raita Naito, calls him "shonen"note , even though he's already an adult.
  • All-Loving Hero: Taiya will never ignore screams of fear, and even helped the Sanseaters and MadRex on occasion. He even offers Spindo the chance to reform after serving time for his crimes, only for Spindo to reject the offer moments before his death.
  • Always Someone Better: Sakito's debut episode had him one upping the other Boonboomgers in their respective specialized fields except for Taiya, who managed to complete his delivery right as Sakito arrived at the location spot.
  • Anti-Hero: Initially, his primary motivations for fighting the Hashiriyans is protect his and Bundorio's dream because he believes that they're in the way, as revealed in #8. However, he still does fight to protect the people out of altruism, and as the show progresses we find out more indications that he always wanted to protect people.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Mira's What the Hell, Hero? towards Taiya in #8 after he risks his life fighting a giant Madrex is comprised of these.
Mira: Why? Why did you do something so crazy? How could throw away your life so easily?! And ours too?!
  • Berserk Button: While usually calm and composed, Taiya easily gets angry whenever he finds himself in a situation where he can't help someone, due to a traumatic experience he had in his childhood.
  • Big Fancy House: Taiya owns one, which houses a sizable pool and a gigantic underground garage that serves as the Boonboomgers' home base.
  • Big Good: Is not only leader of the Boonboomgers, but also the creator of the Boonboomger equipment and Boonboom Cars alongside Bundorio.
  • Broken Pedestal: In #44, Taiya loses all respect he had for Raita once the latter confirms his allegiance with the Hashiriyans.
  • Catchphrase:
    • "Now that was (really) Burst-Accelerating!"note
    • "You got me interested! I'll buy it!"note
  • Character Development: Taiya started as a heroic but mysterious man who only created the Boonboomger equipment to participate in the Big Bang Grand Prix, but after his teammates found out about it, he also started using his powers for the sake of other people and became a standardized hero.
  • Comfort Food: According to production notes for #45, Taiya's comfort food is Bundorio's Boonboom Curry.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character:
    • Gira was a Rookie Red Ranger whose inexperience often leads to him being less quick on the draw than the others and somewhat indecisive. Taiya is a levelheaded Experienced Protagonist who can easily adapt to a situation no matter how absurd it gets. Additionally, Gira has an aggressive fighting style that utilizes raw power while Taiya's fighting style is far more precise, utilizing agility and speed to gain an advantage.
    • Taro Momoi was a Brutally Honest man who Cannot Tell a Lie and a Consummate Professional who regularly put his team through Training from Hell while having separate personas as a civilian and untransformed. Taiya is more lax and casual with his teammates, being more willing to resort to deception while being more fair towards his teammates and being the same in and out of his suit.
    • Kairi Yano was lazy and laid-back in addition to being cold, teasing, and aloof, while Keiichiro Asaka was Hot-Blooded with a Hair-Trigger Temper alongside being a Workaholic with Chronic Hero Syndrome. Taiya is professional, casual, and cordial, and is generally more apt at being social.
  • Cool Car: Aside from the Boonboom Cars, Taiya is almost never seen without his iconic red and white convertible, the Boonboom SuperCar.
  • Courier: He's the main deliveryman within the team, transporting various items and people with his SuperCar.
  • Crimefighting with Cash: If he needs to spend an exorbitant amount of cash to complete his job/defeat the Haishiriyan, he will do it. This even includes buying off entire locations just to use them to his advantage. This gets exploited by Raita Naito, who seizes all of Taiya's fortune to bring the Boonboomgers down.
  • Dark Secret: Taiya and Bundorio's dream is treated as this. It's revealed in #8 that the Boonboomgers and Boonboom Cars were created so that Taiya and Bundorio can take part the "Big Bang Grand Prix", a grand prix that sees the best cars in the universe competing. In turn, this means that the Boonboomgers were never meant to fight the Hashiriyans in the first place, despite having the capabilities of doing so. While it's not as bad as some examples, it gives off the perception of Skewed Priorities at best and pure selfishness at worst. However, in #9, when Mira and Jyo learnt that Taiya decided to do this to make Bundorio's dream come true, they decide to also help them out and the dark secret becomes much less dark.
  • Despair Event Horizon: No matter the hardships, Taiya always keeps his head up and continues fighting alongside his teammates for what he believes in. Not even Ishiro and Raita's betrayals make him stop, but it's Bundorio's death that finally breaks him down.
  • Dislikes the New Guy: Somehow, despite almost instantly accepting Mira joining the team, he rebukes Jyo when he tries to join them. While it's not outright stated, it's implied that Taiya believes that Jyo's Hot-Blooded nature and (initially) shallow reason for wanting to join make him unfit to be a Boonboomger at first. It isn't until Jyo declares his intent to protect the team against Darts Grumer no matter the cost that allows him to see that his passion can be a great asset if channeled properly.
  • Establishing Character Moment: In #1, Taiya is shown calmly driving up to a church, interrupting a wedding, and spiriting away the bride on behalf of his client all while the groom's family chases after him.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Poor Taiya was betrayed by two of his closest friends on the same day: First by Ishiro when he betrays the Boonboomgers and joins the ISA, and then by Raita Naito when he finds out that he's working with the Hashiriyans.
  • Experienced Protagonist: He's been working as a courier and Boonboomger for some time now judging by his general personality and reactions to the weird happenings he gets himself involved in, as well as his exceptional fighting skills.
  • Fiction 500: He is insanely wealthy to the point that, usually with Genba's help, he can simply buy out property to work to his favour in no time at all with no damage to his finances.
  • Genius Bruiser: In addition to being an excellent hand to hand combatant and is very proficient at wielding multiple weapons, he's the creator of all of the Boonboomger's arsenal with his character bio describing him as a master inventor.
  • Get a Hold of Yourself, Man!: In #27, Taiya is forced to calm down Genba from his berserker rage after his attacks start injuring their fellow Boonboomgers.
  • Good-Guy Bar: In #17, Taiya is revealed to own a bar where he and his teammates can hang out in private, with Genba playing mixologist for everyone.
  • Heroic BSoD: In #45, Taiya is completely distraught over losing Bundorio, and refuses to listen to anyone's request to rest during his repairs. It takes Mira making him Bundorio's trademark Curry for him to open up and get his hands back on the wheel.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • #21 reveals that he had a dream to be a firefighter as a child, showing that he had the will to save people even before becoming a Boonboomger. Though he doesn't admit it when Bundorio finds out about it, Bundorio decides to repay Taiya for helping him by creating the Zoonzoom Shokablaster and allowing him to transform into the fire-fighting-themed Bun Red 119.
    • #24 reveals that he knows how to play the guitar.
  • Hypocrite: Despite dismissing Jyo from joining the team due to supposedly not having truly noble intentions, the whole reason Taiya formed the Boonboomgers wasn't to fight evil, but to take part in a galactic racing grand prix. Though given the fact that he's had Genba on standby to give Jyo his transformation device, it is heavily implied Taiya's initial stance was a Secret Test of Character on his end, possibly subverting this trope. And it's later revealed that Taiya have always had the will to help people, even if that wasn't the Boonboomgers' original purpose.
  • The Kirk: He serves as the even-keeled mediator between Ishiro and Mira, getting along with them both.
  • Law of Chromatic Superiority: As per usual Sentai traditions, he gets four mecha (Trailer, Classic, Racing and Leo Rescue. Five if you count the SuperCar) and his own power up, but it's a Downplayed Trope given that the Boonboomgers can drive each other's Boonboom Cars.
  • The Leader: He basically leads the Boonboomgers by gluing his team together.
  • My Greatest Failure: As a child, Taiya overheard a child crying in the apartment adjoining his, but chose to not concern himself with it, until the police arrived one day for investigations due to something tragic that had actually happened to said child. The severe regret of not even trying to save the child before it was too late caused him to resolve to grow up faster so as to expand his reach to help children and others in need of it.
  • Mysterious Past: All that's really known of Taiya in the beginning is that he came into a great amount of wealth as a younger man, met Bundorio along the way, and formed the Boonboomgers to pursue his dream of taking part in the BBGP (Big Bang Grand Prix).
  • Non-Idle Rich: The man's one of - if not the - wealthiest individual(s) of the entire world, and rather than resting on his laurels he goes around delivering high-stakes parcels.
  • No-Sell: In #24, Acou-Gui Grumer conjures out red lights that forces Bundorio to stop lest they get lasered. Taiya promptly sends out Boonboom Leon, since a fire truck is allowed to ignore red lights.
  • Punny Name: His name is a play on "Tire" and "Handle".
  • Pyrrhic Victory: In #8, Taiya manages to defeat MadRex and causes him to flee, but not without heavy damage sustained by Bundorio and the Boonboom Cars as well as Taiya getting badly injured himself. Plus there's still the conflict that's arisen between the team as the result of his dream being revealed and the actions he took during the battle.
  • The Reveal: In #37, as revealed in flashback, Taiya's desire to help people when they hear them scream stems from his childhood; he heard a kid screaming in fear and couldn't do anything about it.
  • Rule of Symbolism: The opening in #45 doesn't feature Taiya at all and shows him looking away, mirroring his state of mind and how he lost hold of his wheel.
  • Sadistic Choice: In #44, Naito gives Taiya a truly awful ultimatum as Bundorio is fighting Spindo. He can either assist Bundorio and allow Lightning Tech to seize all of his assets, or he can watch Bundorio lose to keep his assets. Taiya chooses the former, which ends up becoming moot anyway.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: A heroic example. Taiya has a habit of using his money to get his way, like buying a junkyard to use as part of a plan to stop a Kurumaju.
  • Secret-Keeper: He and Ishiro were the only ones who knew about Bundorio being a former Hashiriyan member, though they were not aware about him working very closely with Waruido Spindo.
  • Secretly Wealthy: He owns an entire underground garage underneath his modern-styled home that can house the gigantic Boomboon Cars and will spend loads of money just to get a job done (such as buying an entire boutique in #1, a junkyard in #2 and a satellite in #25), but he's fairly humble and really doesn't flaunt his wealth.
  • Skewed Priorities: Taiya's devotion to his dream to hold the BBG comes off as this, especially to Mira and Jyo. This is made especially apparent when Taiya and Madrex's duel, ignoring his teammates to instead focus on defeating Madrex to protect his dream, resulting in Mira and Jyo losing the trust in him.
  • Skyward Scream: In #44, Taiya lets one out while mourning Bundorio's death.
  • Spot the Imposter: In #37, Taiya reveals to a fake Ishiro that he figured out he was an imposter from the start due to the lack of sheen in his eyes and his questioning about Bundorio's whereabouts, since Ishiro would always know that as the team’s Informer.
  • Take My Hand!: In #44, Bun Red and Bundorio reach out to each other as the former attempts to rescue the latter.
  • Taking the Bullet: In #24, Taiya and Sakito protect their friends and the children from Acou-Gui's attack, which makes them fall asleep.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: In #43, Taiya refuses Ishiro's order to disband his team, even if it results in them being branded as enemies of the world, saying that he'll continue driving in his way and never ignore other people's screams.
Taiya: Enemies of the world, you say? This couldn't get more cranked-up.
  • Wealthy Philanthropist: Aside from being a Boonboomger while also working as a deliveryman, #28 reveals that with Raita Naito's help, he has built many facilities for children all around the world. #45 reveals this to be the result of him resolving to help children to grow up happy and protected.
  • We Can Rule Together: In #8, MadRex asks Taiya to join him and his boss rather than fight alongside the Boonboomgers. Taiya obviously refuses.
  • Wedding Smashers:
    • In #1, Taiya interrupts Mira's wedding in order to take her to her waiting boyfriend.
    • In #47, Taiya and Ishiro stop Mira and Spindo's wedding just as Spindo is about to place his mind-controlling ring on her finger, and end up crashing not only the wedding but most of Hashiriyan's resources and Spindo's energy.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • He gets one in #8 when Mira rebukes Taiya for pushing himself too far against the mecha fight with MadRex, indirectly blaming his devotion to his dream for pushing the others aside.
    • He gets another one in #45 when Mira, Jyo and Genba worry about Taiya not eating or sleeping over trying to revive Bundorio, until he opens up and reveals his traumatic childhood memory to them.
  • Worthy Opponent: Taiya earns Captain MadRex's respect for giving him a real challenge. Judging by MadRex's tone, few to none have lasted as long against him as Taiya.
  • You Are Not Alone:
    • In #9, Mira tells Taiya to stop shouldering the burden of Bundorio's dream all by himself, affirming that his dream is also the team's dream.
    • In #45, after Taiya opens up about his past, the rest of the team reassures him they're with him on his dreams.
  • You Remind Me of X: After Akira meets Taiya in #32, he's immediately reminded of Right, finding their attitudes similar to each other's.

  • Finishing Move:
    • Boonboom Driver Drive: Bun Red extends the blade of his sword to push the opponent around the world and then back to Taiya's position so he can strike them.
    • Zoonzoom Overdrive: Roaring Banish: Bun Red unleashes a massive jet of water from the Shokablaster.
  • The Gunslinger: His fighting style becomes more firearm-oriented in 119 Form.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: He mainly uses the Boonboom Handle in Rod Mode.
  • Heroic Fire Rescue: It would be irresponsible for Toei if they didn't do one of these with Bun Red 119.
  • Meaningful Name: Bun Red 119 is named after the Japanese emergency number, 119.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: 119 Form, accessed via the Zoonzoom Shokablaster.
  • Out of Focus: After #30, Taiya begins using his 119 form and related Mecha much less in favor of his Champion form, only using them again in episodes 41 and 42.
  • Protagonist Power-Up Privileges: He obtains the Bun Red 119 form which is exclusive to him. Played with in that the mecha associated with this form, Boonboom Leon, could be considered a power-up for Bundorio, since it can combine with him and form Boonboomger Robo 119. Later subverted when he and the rest of the core team get their Champion Forms.
  • Rescue Equipment Attack: Zigzagged with the Zoonzoom Shokablaster, which shoots foam like a fire extinguisher but is shaped like a gun.
  • Shoulder Cannon: Gains a pair of fire hoses as these in 119 Form.
  • Sword and Gun: He's proficient in the Boonboom Handle's Rod and Gun Modes. He later acquires another gun dubbed the Zoonzoom Shokablaster in 119 Form.

    Ishiro Meita/Bun Blue

Portrayed by: Yuki Hayama (live), Takahiro Yoneoka (suit)

The Informernote . Originally a freelance spy, he joined Taiya's team when he was requested by the ISA's director to recover Bundorio Bunderas after Taiya finds him, and impressing Taiya when he breaks in his house. Outwardly methodical and sarcastic, he works with Taiya as an informant under the notion of a "job assignment". His appearance of stoic professionalism is quickly revealed to be a front for his more impassioned personality, something he attempts to carefully maintain to varying results.

As Bun Blue, he has excellent dynamic vision and is good at precise movements. As such, he is a skilled marksman who never misses.

Tropes applying to him in general

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ggludp_buaav_aj.jpg
Bun Blue!
  • Affectionate Nickname: He often gets referred to as "Shashiro" by most of the team, though he usually dislikes it when people other than Taiya call him like that. Jyo opts to call him "Shiro-senpai" out of a mistaken belief that his actual name is Sha Shiro.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: He can think up plans on the fly by carefully observing what's going on.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: He's a highly trained marksman, fighter, and informant who wears a sharp suit with a tie.
  • Berserk Button: Trying to cause harm in an aquarium is the only thing that can break Ishiro's cool personality.
  • Blue Means Smart One: He's the Blue Ranger of the Boonboomgers who uses his analytical mindset to craft plans on the fly to save the day. He's also the one who programmed an AI system into Boonboom Safari and Boonboom Marine.
  • Brick Joke: In #25, when the team is discussing about the fireworks, Ishiro doesn't want to participate until Genba promises to produce anything they want, so Ishiro requests for some candied apples. During the final scene, Ishiro is seen with some candied apples.
  • Commonality Connection: Ishiro points out during his battle with Grantu Risk that they are both loyal to their leaders. However, Ishiro is fully autonomous while still maintaining Taiya's trust, while Grantu is basically "owned" by Spindo due to a past incident. While Grantu denies this, a Flashback of his first encounter with Spindo shows that Ishiro is much closer to the truth than Grantu thinks he is.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character:
    • Both Yanma Gast and Ishiro are intelligent and aloof Blue Rangers who utilize a fighting style that focuses on marksmanship. However, Yanma, while capable of having foresight and planning, is an aggressive and reckless fighter who would often butt heads with the others regularly due to being the ruler of a rival nation. Ishiro by contrast is a level-headed and calculating spy who is much more professional and unwelcoming towards his teammates but will later warm up to them.
    • Shinichi Saruhara was a philosophical and eccentric man who rejected any form of luxury and hated money to the point of refusing to keep any for himself. Ishiro, however, has a more straight-laced demeanor, dresses sharply in a tie, and regularly works with a man who might as well be a walking ATM.
    • Shiguru Oshikiri was a swordsman whose day-job (an actor) basically meant everyone knew about him. Ishiro is quite the opposite, being a marksman who prior to working for Taiya had a job (a spy) where it was paramount for his identity to remain a secret.
    • Touma Yoimachi, despite his stoic demeanor, would often focus too much on the end goal without thinking ahead, meaning he would frequently make rash and hasty decisions that would jeopardize his mission if his teammates didn't stop him. Ishiro, however, is a more level-headed man and focuses just as much on the current situation as well as the final goal.
  • Crazy-Prepared: In #37, it turns out that Ishiro had planned for the possibility of the Boonboom Cars getting hacked, as a fake Ishiro created by Camera Grumer learns that his attempt to crack the system fails as the failsafe kicks in.
  • Dislikes the New Guy: He usually doesn't take a liking to new members that join the team, because as a spy he was used to working alone.
    • Unlike Taiya or Bundorio, Ishiro doesn't immediately take to Mira as a teammate due to her inexperience, which is actually the driving point of #2. By the end of the episode however, he does seem to silently come around to her membership. By #14, he fully accepts her as a member of the team, realizing how important she is in keeping him grounded.
    • He distrusts Jyo when he formally joins the team out of a belief that his goody-two-shoes appearance belies something darker. He gradually sees the error in his thinking when Jyo is hit with Toilet Grumer's water, revealing that his Nice Guy personality is entirely genuine.
    • He also seems to distrust Sakito, even after he decides to end his alliance with the Hashiriyans, due to his carefree attitude, though he naturally grows out of it by the time of the third Lap.
  • Distressed Dude: In #37, Steer manages to get the jump on Ishiro, incapacitating him and keeping him chained up as she has Camera Grumer make a copy of him and send it to the Boonboomgers' base in an attempt to shut them down.
  • Double Agent: In #47, Ishiro is revealed to have been this to the ISA for the last few episodes, having been working on the inside to find out Spindo's weakness and release the Boonboom Cars from their hold.
  • Experienced Protagonist: Much like Taiya, he's been working as a Boonboomger and informant for quite some time now.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Subverted. In #43 he leaves the Boonboomgers to join the ISA - and by extension, the Hashiriyans - and brands them as enemies of the world. In reality, he was a Fake Defector.
  • Fake Defector: Ishiro only staged his betrayal so that he could get closer to the ISA and the Hashiriyans and find Spindo's weakness. He returns to the team in #47 right after weakening Spindo by killing Sarucar.
  • Foreshadowing: His first focus episode in #2 has him seemingly abandon Mira as they fight Vacuum Grumer, only to later emerge with Boonboom Wagon and corner the Kurumaju, exploiting its weakness by overloading its vacuum bag. In the endgame, Ishiro seemingly betrays the team by defecting to the ISA in #43, only to be revealed to be working against them from the inside and announcing his true allegiance by sending Boonboom Marine to destroy Shashai Sarucar, who's revealed to be Spindo's Gyahsoline tank and Achilles' Heel.
  • Genius Bruiser: Ishiro's intelligence goes hand-in-hand with his combat style, which focuses on methodical shooting and precise movements.
  • Hero of Another Story: Once the ISA are revealed to be collaborating with the Hashiriyans, Ishiro starts investigating them separately from his team. His investigations aren't shown in detail, though, until he joins them.
  • Hidden Depths: Underneath his stoicism, Ishiro has quite a few things that he takes comfort in.
    • He turns out to really like saunas, revealing in #4 that he takes the time to go to one about three times a week.
    • #14 reveals that he loves going to aquariums to clear his head, making for a more literal example.
  • Hourglass Plot: In #45, Ishiro points out to Shirabe that their positions at the start of the episode (him confiscating the Boonboom Cars for the government, while she tries to stop it) is the reverse of their positions when they first met. This is subverted, however, after the reveal that his betrayal was staged.
  • Hypocrite: Dislikes Jyo for assuming he might hiding dark secrets underneathing his facade. Come #8 and it's revealed Ishiro was also hiding a dark secret being in the know of Taiya's true plan of forming the Boonboomgers that wasn't for altruistic purposes. And it becomes even more hypocritical once Ishiro betrays his teammates for the ISA in #43, even if it was for being a Double Agent.
  • Ironic Echo:
    • In #37, Ishiro turns Steer's words on her after he manages to escape confinement, using a distraction to keep her busy.
Steer (after incapacitating Ishiro): Turning your back on me... you've gotten careless.
Ishiro (after escaping from his shackles): Turning your back on me... you've gotten careless.
    • In #45, Ishiro turns Shirabe's words on her when he deactivates the Boonboom Cars' security, pointing out that she was on hostile terms with the team at the start and that he's simply finishing what she had started.
  • Irony: In #6, he is obsessed with tailing Jyo in an attempt to see if there's any darkness in him. The tables get turned when he and Jyo get splashed with Toilet Grumer's water, which shows Jyo is 100% earnest and Ishiro himself is hiding a lot of passion underneath the surface and that's not counting him knowing from the start that the Boonboomgers weren't supposed to be a goody-good heroic team.
  • It's Personal: In #14, Ishiro tries to fight against Reizōko Grumer alone while the team takes on the revitalized Boonboom Killer Robo because the latter is dead-set on destroying the aquarium. Mira soon joins him after she sees he isn't doing well against the Grumer.
  • Knight of Cerebus: A rare heroic example. His betrayal of the Boonboomgers kick-starts the series' endgame lap.
  • The Lancer: He's the second most experienced member of the team and usually acts as a confidant to Taiya.
  • Lancer vs. Dragon: The penultimate fight of the series sees Ishiro pitted against Grantu, with the former pointing out that the one key difference between them is that Taiya trusted him enough to keep his hands on his wheel, while Grantu surrendered himself completely to Spindo and thus denying his own agency.
  • Like Father, Like Son: In #29 he reveals that his parents were also spies and implies that he shares a lot of traits with them.
  • Meaningful Name: The Ishi/射士 in his given name means "marksman". Additionally it can be alternatively read as shashi, a pun based on the Japanese pronunciation of "chassis", which forms the basis of Taiya's Affectionate Nickname for him.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero!: While his apparent betrayal turned out to be staged, it led to Tokoyari giving Raita the green light to seize Taiya's assets, which in turn led to a series of events that ended with Bundorio's death.
  • Not So Above It All: While he tries to not get involved in the teams' more silly antics, Ishiro has shown many instances where he's not exactly the strait-laced personality he makes himself out to be.
    • The first transformation episode sees him fanboying over the specs of the Boonboom Changer and the Boonboom Handle.
    • He gets into a petty argument with Jyo in #10 when the latter is hogging kashiwa mochi.
    • In #14 he tries to ask out Boonboom Marine after their first fight together, and is very appalled when it refuses.
    • In #22 he asks Bundorio to make him a James Bond inspired Mid-Season Upgrade after Taiya got his Bun Red 119 form.
    • In #29, the first thing after he and Sakito form a makeshift Boonboomger Robo with Offroad, Marine, and the Byun Byum Mach Robo is to give it an Overly Long Name.
  • Not So Stoic: The effects of Toilet Grumer's water in #6 reveal that he's a passionate go-getter underneath the stoicism not unlike Jyo. Naturally, he gets made fun of by Taiya and Mira for this, and when Toilet Grumer is revived in #26, Ishiro complains about fighting it again after it humiliated him once.
  • Ocular Gushers: In #31, both Ishiro and Jyo cry like this from the taste of Mira's curry.
  • I Owe You My Life: #2 reveals that Taiya let Ishiro work for him despite the fact that he broke in his house, giving Ishiro more than a reason to follow Taiya.
  • Punny Name: His last name is based on "Meter".
  • Running Gag: At this point in time, Ishiro is not used to being called "Shashiro" and corrects Taiya and Bundorio whenever they call him that. It stops in the final chapter when Ishiro fully embraces his role as a Boonboomger.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: He was originally requested by Eiichiro Tokoyari to recover Bundorio from Taiya's house after the latter found him when he crashed on Earth. When he got to know the two of them better, he decided to bail on Tokoyari's offer and lie about Bundorio to him.
  • Secret-Keeper: He and Taiya were the only ones who knew about Bundorio being a former Hashiriyan member, though they were not aware about him working very closely with Waruido Spindo.
  • The Spock: His cold, analytical mindset causes him to butt heads with Mira, though it ultimately doesn't hamper their teamwork.
  • The Stoic: Subverted. It initially seems that he's an aloof, levelheaded professional who keeps his distance, only for #6 to reveal that he's way more passionate than he lets on. The manga prequel The Informer's Secret reveals that it's the result of being raised by a strict family of spies who never let him live his own life and achieve his dreams.
  • Sweet Tooth: In #10, he is shown to particularly love kashiwa mochi, specifically the ones with coarse red bean paste. #25 reveals that he loves candied apples.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Ishiro gets one from Mira in #14 when Mira chews out Ishiro for trying to go at Reizōko Grumer alone, reminding him that he has an entire team backing him up, reminiscent of the one she gave to Taiya in #8 when he endangered himself to fight MadRex.
  • Wolf in Sheep's Clothing: Subverted. Being the cynic that he is, Ishiro believes that Jyo's Hot-Blooded Nice Guy personality is a facade for something darker and thus tries to find anything that can support his claim, only to be disproven thanks to Toilet Grumer's water.

Portrayed by: Miu Suzuki (live), Yume Sakanashi (suit)
Young Mira portrayed by: Riina Ooba

The Motoristnote . A freeter who works multiple part-time jobs and is skilled at driving and maneuvering vehicles, moreso than Taiya and Ishiro. She is also the team's mood-maker as well as a frequent troublemaker who sticks her nose into other people's business. Inspired by Taiya's words of controlling her own fate, she decides to become a Boonboomger to break away from people making the decisions for her.

As Bun Pink, she has a unique fighting sense and acts by her instincts.

Tropes applying to her in general

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gglvlhybsaa8y3x.jpg
Bun Pink!

  • Action Girl: Mira gradually becomes a highly skilled fighter capable of taking down Kurumaju by herself despite her lack of experience due to her unconventionality and unprecedented speed.
  • Affectionate Nickname: She's "Mirapi" to Aki.
  • Arranged Marriage: How we are first introduced to her. For unknown political reasons, she was forced to marry Bonbon Aori. Luckily Taiya manages to rescue her in time. In #46 she's forced into another one, this time with Waruido Spindo, so that the conflict between the Boonboomgers and the Hashiriyans and ISA would be resolved in peace. She's of course not happy about this, but relents in order to enact the team's plan to undermine Spindo. Luckily in #47, once again, Taiya managed to stop Spindo from putting the ring on her in time.
  • Badass Driver: Despite her inexperience, she's an excellent driver. To boot, the first episode sees her easily outmaneuvering a Gyahsoline-empowered Yarucar through sheer willpower and skills. It is especially worth noting that her Boonboom Wagon is the only left-offside Boonboom Car compared to the others' Japanese-standard right-offside, which means she instantly mastered driving a pseudo-import vehicle.
  • Berserk Button: She does not like it when people leave her in the dark with regards to crucial details. It's first played seriously in #8 when she has a falling out with Taiya over The Reveal that the Boonboomgers were created as a racing team, but is later played more humorously in #10 when she gets annoyed that Genba didn't tell her that the package he was carrying was a decoy.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Whenever she's ticked off, Mira can fight in levels of anger and speed that not even the other Boonboomgers can handle. In rare instances, she even directs that anger towards her fellow Boonboomgers if they get in her way during battle.
  • Bookends: At the beginning of the series, she's forced into marrying Bonbon Aori. Near the ending, she's forced into marrying Spindo.
  • Character Tics: Has a habit of putting her chin in between her thumb and index finger.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Downplayed. While her thought process isn't anything too abstract, she has a tendency to make rash decisions or just go at her own pace regardless of the situation, which sometimes ends up accidentally providing an advantage for the team due to the unpredictability of her actions. This aspect of her is the source of Taiya's interest in her.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Mira plays with the trope by virtue of occasionally wearing yellow clothes in addition to the pink she's associated with as the Pink Ranger of the team, which may be a nod to how yellow is the other color usually associated with female Rangers in Super Sentai.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character:
    • While (originally) Happily Married, Tsuyoshi Kijino was a Yandere Crazy Jealous Guy who would regularly flip his switch should his love interest get involved but was otherwise meek, indecisive, and regularly prone to poor decisions. Mira both rejected her Arranged Marriage and dumped her actual boyfriend, who as it turns out later is himself a Yandere Crazy Jealous Guy (though not to the same extent as Tsuyoshi), and despite starting out as spineless she immediately took the wheel and made her own path while being infallibly optimistic and energetic. She also regularly made smarter decisions.
    • Sayo Ooharu was generally calm and composed while making many of her decisions. Mira... not so much.
    • Tsukasa Myojin was generally a primarily level-headed and mature woman who kept her much more feminine and immature plushie-loving behavior hidden from her coworkers. Mira is an excitable and eager young woman who doesn't even bother with hiding it and wears her girly side right on her sleeve.
  • Dare to Be Badass: In #1, Taiya's words about taking control of her own fate inspires Mira to join the Boonboomgers rather than escape with her boyfriend, to which Taiya happily accepts.
  • Double-Meaning Title: As The Motorist. Not only is she an Instant Expert at driving any vehicle, she also drives the team morale as their mood-maker.
  • Dude Magnet: Has caught the eye of three guys thus far: Norio, Bonbon Aori (a mob Don's son), and Owan Grumer.
  • Easily Forgiven: In #36, Mira doesn't get angry at Aki when she steals her Boonboom Changer and almost breaking her trust. In fact, she even offers her to use it for a single time, but Aki refuses her offer and returns the Changer.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Mira shows off her Plucky Girl status in #1 by grabbing Ishiro's Boonboom Changer to transform the Boonboom SuperCar into its rocket mode to get her wedding dress back.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Mira has one in #31 while she's trying to help Reika with her father's curry recipe. Talking about how cooking takes time, she realizes that the missing ingredient was to let the curry cook for longer, which is exactly what the recipe needed.
  • Failed a Spot Check: In #36, Mira fails to realize Aki made off with her Boonboom Changer before Taiya points it out to her. Fortunately Bundorio is able to track it, where they realize Aki has it in her possession.
  • Genki Girl: She's incredibly energetic and plucky, especially when she gets pumped up.
  • Grew a Spine: After constantly having decisions made for her by other people, Mira decides to stand up for herself and make her own choices, starting with becoming a Boonboomger.
  • The Heart: Mira is a cheerful and friendly girl who will always try to reason with their teammates whenever one of them tries to fight alone or risks the team coming apart.
  • Hereditary Wedding Dress: The dress she wore at her Arranged Marriage was originally her grandmother's.
  • Hidden Depths: As revealed in #43, Mira is quite skilled in calligraphy.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: In contrast to the experienced Taiya and Ishiro, Mira learns how to use the Boonboomger equipment on the fly as the other two use them. To her credit, she's a quick learner.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Officially, Mira's name is rendered in kanjī as 未来. However, possibly due to the rarity of her name, her name sometimes gets rendered in katakana as ミラ.
  • Instant Expert: While she does mildly fumble around when it comes to the logistics of things, she manages to quickly adapt to being a Boonboomger on her first outing through pure instinct.
  • Irony: It's revealed in #40 that despite being the Boonboomger's Motorist, Mira failed her driver's test six times.
  • It's Personal: One of the reasons she decides to join the fight as a Boonboomger is because the first Kurumaju they faced was made from her grandmother's wedding dress.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Mira lampshades in #10 that she tends to be out of the loop when it comes to certain situations.
    • In #3, she is unaware that she was planned to be bait for Tokei Grumer, purely focused on her delivery job.
    • She, alongside Jyo, were made unaware of the true nature of the Boonboomgers until Genba accidentally revealed Taiya and Bundorio's dream in #8. Understandably, she gets upset by this to the point where she calls out Taiya at the end of the episode for pushing himself too far.
    • In #10, she was the only one that wasn't made aware that the contents of case that Genba was carrying was already delivered, making the both of them decoys to the Sanseaters.
    • Once again, she and Jyo were made unaware of Bundorio's true past until The Reveal in #34, leading to her making this well-deserved callout:
  • The McCoy: Her impulsive, intuition-driven attitude causes her to clash with Ishiro at times, though they still work together well as a team.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Her first name, "Mirror", is to help her reflect on what she wants to do with her life, and thus she made a shift to walking her own path and becoming a Boonboomger.
    • The kanji of her first name can be read as mirai (future), which she decides to take charge of by becoming a Boonboomger.
  • Naïve Newcomer: Of the first three, she is the newest of the trio after Taiya and Ishiro.
  • New Job as the Plot Demands: Whenever she doesn't fight as Bun Pink or has a delivery job to do, Mira works in different part-time jobs that change every episode and sometimes have something to do with the story. #44 sees all of her part-time jobs drop her due to pressure from the ISA, as she and her fellow Boonboomgers are declared outlaws.
  • Protagonist Power-Up Privileges: Subverted in #31. Mira snatches Boonboom Shobosha from Taiya's hands and gets to pilot Boonboomger Robo 119 instead of him.
  • Punny Name: Her name is based on "Mirror" and "Shift".
  • Rule of Symbolism: In #1, Taiya noting how Mira doesn't like when others take the wheel when he's the one driving her to her boyfriend. It's only after she literally takes the wheel does she decide to become her own woman.
  • Runaway Bride: An unintentional example as she was taken by Taiya during her wedding, but she had second thoughts as she was being married to someone else against her will for unexplained political reasons.
  • The Smurfette Principle: She is the only female member of her team.
  • Take a Third Option: In #1, Mira is confronted with a choice: either let her Arranged Marriage go through, or elope with her boyfriend. She chooses neither, choosing to join the Boonboomgers to carve her own path instead.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Her instincts and more unconventional methods allow her to keep up with her more experienced teammates in combat.
  • Unstoppable Rage: In #20, Mira is so mad at Owan Grumer for capturing her to the point that she blocks any attempts of Sakito hitting him just so she can kill it.

    Jyo Akuse/Bun Black

Portrayed by: Ryu Saito (live), Shigeki Itō (suit)
Young Jyo portrayed by: Sora Shiota

The Police Officernote . A serious yet kindhearted rookie policeman who has a passion for justice, often finding himself on the tail end of weird situations thanks to the Hashiriyan. He eventually becomes a liaison between the I.S.A. and the Boonboomgers after Taiya convinces investigator Shirabe Saibu that the team are capable of handling the Hashiriyans, ascending to become one of them himself after his declaration to become the Boonboomgers' protector impressed Taiya.

As Bun Black, he mainly fights using physical strength. He uses the Boonboom Change Axe in Rod Mode.

Tropes applying to him in general

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gglwuxyacaatjnk.jpg
Bun Black!

  • Ascended Fanboy: Jyo became a fan of the "Tire People" after witnessing a few of their fights. Needless to say, he's overjoyed when he gets the opportunity to join them, at first as a liaison between them and the ISA and later as an actual member. He also admits in #5 that he's always idolized superheroes. However, he comes to admit that becoming a hero just to be "cool" and actually being a hero to do the right thing are vastly different.
  • Ash Face: In #21, Jyo gets one after saving an old lady from one of Shoukaki Grumer's fake fire extinguishers, in addition to his hair getting poofy and messed up and staying this way all the way to the end of the episode and even in the ending PSA.
  • Being Good Sucks: The crux of #15. When Kaseki Grumer goes berserk due to Cannonborg's machinations, Jyo finds himself divided between his personal feelings and his duty to protect the city. He ultimately chooses the latter because it's the right thing to do, but he's still saddened by the loss.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Jyo is the most cheerful and friendly member of the team (when not tied with Mira), but he's also a skilled and very determined fighter, so try and harm innocent people in front of him and you'll face Hell.
  • Big Eater: Implied. #8 sees him stuffing a pastry in his front overall pocket while #10 sees him trying hoard a bunch of kashiwa mochi with coarse red bean paste.
  • Butt-Monkey: Things never go well for him whenever the Hashiriyans get involved, particularly before he joined the Boonboomgers.
  • Character Tics: Him saluting when given an order or declaring his vow to protect people.
  • Chekhov's Gun: In #5, Jyo hits Darts Grumer's face hard enough for it to be distracted long enough that Jyo is able to save all three of its victims. Later during the big fight, Jyo realizes this means the Grumer's face is its weakness and attacks it in the face, which gives him the victory.
  • Chronically Wrecked Bicycle: His poor bicycle often becomes a major victim of the Kurumaju, from being sucked up by Soujiki Grumer to being sliced apart by Tokei Grumer.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character:
    • Kaguragi Dybowski was an experienced ruler who led an entire country, had a deceitful nature behind his mask of gentleness, and would regularly lie to secure the future of his people. Jyo is a raw recruit who does his best to uphold the law honestly but is far more confrontational.
    • BIG TIME with Tsubasa Inuzuka as he's a runaway criminal who's aloof and cynical, while Jyo is THE EXACT opposite! he's a police officer who's friendly and amiable, basically being Tsubasa's opposite.
    • Gunpei Ishihara was a former police officer and wannabe detective who started his tenure treating the first Go-Ongers as newbies despite being the actual newcomer and primarily fights using firearms. Jyo is a rookie cop who mainly deals with physical combat, primarily using a melee weapon.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Jyo, once he becomes Bun Black delivers an absolutely astounding one to Darts Grumer, overpowering his ultimate attack and cutting it in half, then proceeding to destroy him, without any help from Taiya and the others.
  • Declaration of Protection: Extends this to the entire team, which is the moment Taiya decides he can officially become a Boonboomger.
Jyo: The Boonboomgers will be safe with me!
  • Determinator: Jyo rarely ever gives up protecting people, even if he gets hurt in the process.
    • In #5, despite lacking the means to effectively fight Darts Grumer, Jyo does his damn hardest to hold him off, even if he gets beaten up at his expense. This is what gets Taiya to make him into a Boonboomger.
  • Epic Fail: Taijyukei Grumer reveals that Jyo did so badly in a past test that he got -10 as his final score. Mira wonders how he even got that.
  • Flower Motifs: The hoodie he wears in #6 has daisies on it. Daisies represent innocence and purity, reflecting on how Jyo is truly as nice as he appears. They are also known to survive harsh conditions, reflecting how Jyo will not give up in protecting the people whether he be a police officer or Boonboomger. Finally, daisies represent youth and Jyo is essentially the youngest of the Boonboomgers.
  • Following in Relative's Footsteps: #40 reveals that Jyo's father was also a police officer, and implies that his desire to help people made him decide to follow in his father's career path.
  • Hidden Depths: He's well acquainted with bodybuilders and even gave them tips on improving themselves. And at the same time, this is discussed with Ishiro who is trying to exploit if there are any negative connotations underneath Jyo's facade in #6...only to find out he doesn't have any.
  • Hot-Blooded: Jyo is incredibly passionate about protecting people, to the point where he veers into recklessness. This is implied to be the reason why Taiya doesn't let him become a Boonboomger at first in #5, only to change his mind when the former realizes that just leaping into action unprepared does not make one a true "hero" while the latter sees that his passion allows him to be at his best. From then on, he shifts to more mellow personality.
  • Irony:
    • He is touted as a "professional", with his nickname in Japanese even calling him the "Police Professional", but in actuality, he's a completely inexperienced rookie policeman. Though this is justified within the team itself as compared to the others he's the only one with any sort of experience in law enforcement.
    • In #30 he gets his Boonboom Patrol Cars stolen by the Sanseaters, who combine them with the Boonboom Killer Robo. Mira even calls him out for the irony in this situation.
  • Jack of All Trades: #6 reveals that he's really good at different sorts of tasks. He fixed someone's front door, got a home run in an amateur baseball game and gives advice to bodybuilders on their techniques. #23 expands on it and reveals that he's a baseball trainer who coaches a children's baseball team.
  • Locked Out of the Loop:
    • He, alongside Mira, were made unaware of the true nature of the Boonboomgers until Genba accidentally revealed Taiya and Bundorio's dream in #8. Jyo is understandably upset by this, but doesn't get outright angry at Taiya unlike Mira.
    • He and Mira were unaware of Bundorio's true past until Disrace reveals it in #34.
  • Loved by All: It's clear that almost everyone in town is on good terms with Jyo, from housewives to bodybuilders he gives advice to on their workout routines. As if that wasn't enough, almost every business owner in the area is willing to give him free samples, including one for tempura.
  • Made of Iron: Most of his debut transformation episode has him getting beaten bloody by the Monster of the Week outside of his suit, yet still is able get back up and fight.
  • The McCoy: By far the most heroic among the Boonboomgers as he’s willing to do it whatever it takes to protect others and doesn’t have much ulterior motives.
  • Meaningful Name: His first name literally means "Lock", alluding to his job to lock up criminals as a policeman.
  • Mercy Kill: In #15, Cannonborg upgrades Kaseki Grumer to go berserk, forcing Jyo to put him down.
  • Nice Guy: His passion is matched by his sheer kindness and protectiveness towards people, so much so that Ishiro believes that it has to be front in #6, only to be proven wrong later on in the episode.
  • No-Sell:
    • In #6, Toilet Grumer's water has no effect on Jyo because he is exactly as he presented himself throughout the series so far — he's not hiding anything from anyone.
    • Jyo is immune to ATM Grumer's attack in #19, due to him buying a very expensive piece of gym equipment, leaving him broke leading to the rest of the team using him as a Human Shield.
    • In #40, Jyo isn't affected by Taijyukei Grumer's numbers, which also cause him to be tied up, because he never lets his past mistakes get to him.
  • Ocular Gushers: In #31, both Ishiro and Jyo cry like this from the taste of Mira's curry.
  • Police Are Useless: He's a rookie policeman who constantly gets the short end of the stick regarding the Hashiriyans. Justified, as 1) he's a Naïve Newcomer who still has yet to learn the ropes, and 2) an invading alien army is far out of a typical policeman's usual fare. This becomes averted after he joins the team.
  • Punny Name: His last name is based on "Accel", while his first name puns on an Alternate Character Reading of the kanji 上/age/"up/to increase". Put them together in Japanese reading format and you get "Accel Up/Accelerate".
  • Refused by the Call: Taiya initially turns down Jyo's request, but later relents when he sees the latter's passion.
  • Sadistic Choice: In #15, Jyo has either a duty to protect the city or to have Kaseki Grumer to keep going on a ramapge. Tearfully, he has to destroy his friend.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: In #46, when Maimi tells Jyo to obey his rules as a policeman, he tells her that even if history will deem the ISA and the Hashiriyan's actions correct, he'll never ignore screams of help and that he'd even quit his job as a policeman if that's what it takes to help those in need.
  • Serious Business: In #10, Jyo takes cleaning a local preschool as if he was off to protect the world from aliens as Bun Black.
  • Sleep Cute: In #15, Kaseki Grumer ends up sleeping on Jyo's lap while they hide in the warehouse.
  • Take a Third Option: Jyo refuses to play Darts Grumer's game, throwing the dart at the Grumer's eye rather than the target.
  • Taking the Bullet: In #6, Jyo's first reaction is to shield Mira from Toilet Grumer's attack after Ishiro put him into that position.
  • To Be Lawful or Good: In #4, Jyo struggles between doing his duty as a police officer and help Saibu keep the Boonboomgers and following in their heroic footsteps even if it means possibly going against the law. He ultimately sides with the Boonboomgers, but circumstances mean that he doesn't have to agonize over his choice as the team chooses to work with the ISA, albeit on their own terms. When the ISA turns on the Boonboomgers and brands them as villains in the endgame, Jyo doesn't hesitate to quit his post as a police officer and carry on with the team, having realized that he can continue helping people without necessarily being an officer of the law.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Let's just say the Hashiriyans lost what little edge they had after Bun Black entered the picture, getting quickly cut down with his sheer strength.
  • Weirdness Magnet: Before joining the Boonboomgers, he often comes across the Kurumaju by chance and ends up becoming a Butt-Monkey victim to them due to his inexperience in handling the situation.
  • Workaholic: Even being on his day off won't stop him from doing his job as a cop.
  • Wrecked Weapon: The Tokei Grumer gives him two Sword Beams for his attempt at stopping him, the first one slicing through a bullet he fired and the second one completely destroying his handgun. In fact, the main reason he only lost his firearm in the battle is that Taiya shoved him out of the way of the attack before his body could get hit.
  • The Worf Effect: Jyo is the team's best baseball player, so of course he gets beaned in the face by Baseball Grumer midway through the first inning and only comes to in the ninth, allowing the Hashiriyans to build up a sizable lead.

  • The Big Guy: He makes extensive use of his physical strength in combat.
  • Enhanced Punch: In his variation of Bakuage Champion Drive, Jyo empowers his fist and punches the target instead of using his Boonboom Change Axe.
  • Finishing Move: Bakuage Crash: Boonboom Rod Drive: Has two variants.
    • Rod Mode: Bun Black charges the Change Axe with energy and delivers a powerful descending slash.
    • Axe Mode: Bun Black charges the Change Axe and delivers a horizontal slash, before turning around and finishing off the target with a second, downward slash.
  • Lawman Baton: His usage of the Boonboom Change Axe follows this, due to his preference for using it in Rod Mode.
  • Weapon-Based Characterization: His usage of the Boonboom Change Axe in Rod Mode obviously references his occupation as a policeman. In #28, after Genba leaves the team, he uses it in Axe Mode instead to honor him.

    Genba Bureki/Bun Orange
(spoilers)

Genba Bureki/Genbard De Livery II/Bun Orange

Portrayed by: Satoru Soma (live), Yukimasa Ono (suit)

The Procurementernote . A dependable man who can procure anything from anywhere. While he has a kind and soft-spoken demeanor, he is actually quite elusive and never shows his true feelings. Despite working with Taiya as his official procurer for some time now, he only officially joins the Boonboomgers after realizing that the team will quickly outgrow his current skillset. He is later revealed to be the prince of Planet Bureki and heir to the Livery retail empire, who had to escape his planet after Hashiriyan's Rebuilding Captain Disrace invaded it, and met Taiya after crashing on Earth.

As Bun Orange, he fights by taking advantage of his opponent's movements. He mainly uses the Boonboom Change Axe in Axe Mode.

Tropes applying to him in general

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gglx4wgaiaa3llq.jpg
Bun Orange!
SPOILERS!
  • Affectionate Nickname: Sakito and Byun-D call him "Wakadanna"note , referencing his role as the heir of the delivery services of planet Bureki.
  • Anti-Hero: After leaving the team for the sake of destroying Disrace alone, Genba becomes motivated only by anger and hate and would sometimes even clash with the other Boonboomgers if they stand in his way, until realizing they care for him and rejoining them in #33, subverting the trope.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: In #33, Genba compares himself to MadRex after seeing him fight against the team, remarking that Disrace took everything dear to him. However, Shirabe counters against this, stating that nobody has the power to take away his hopes and dreams. She then goes on to explain that while Genba was wrapped up in getting revenge; everybody else was counting on him to come back after he regained his "handle". This is what gets Genba to finally come back to the team.
  • Badass Normal: Even before becoming a Boonboomger himself, he proves himself to be useful to the Boonboomgers by delivering them items that become useful in their battles (Like the Boonboom Change Axe he gave to Jyo and the manhole he gave to Taiya that the latter used to block MadRex's finisher). However, at #7 he notices that the Boonboomgers no longer need the items he gives to them, which prompts him to procure them a much more useful delivery: Bun Orange.
  • Battle Aura: Projects a very powerful one after losing his composure at the sight of Disrace and letting out his alien self, it vanishes after he transforms into Bun Orange.
  • Berserk Button: Disrace. Genba has a grudge against him because Disrace invaded his home planet and turned it into a shopping center for the Hashiriyans. Unfortunately for him the latter doesn't seem to recognize him, even in his true form. This is enough of a berserk button to the point that Genba's personality changes for the span of seven episodes, which he also spends away from the team in pursuit of Disrace.
  • "Blind Idiot" Translation: Downplayed. While the proper term is "Procurer", his official English title "Procurementer" seems to be derived directly from the literal meaning of his Japanese title "Procurement Professional", while the term "Procurer" itself is more often associated with procuring people for sexual work instead.
  • Bystander Syndrome: He already owns a Boonboom Booster from Taiya, but for reasons unknown, he prefers to not get involved in the Boonboomgers' fights, instead helping out through his procuring. #7 however has Taiya gift him an entire Change Axe set with another Boonboom Booster, suggesting the one he had earlier was solely for communications, but nonetheless he was still insistent on his decision until the Boonboomgers being in a pinch forced his hand.
  • Can't Catch Up: His dilemma in #7 is based on this. While he believes his procuring is more than enough to keep up with the four Boonboomgers, he realizes with the arrival of MadRex that they will quickly outgrow him even with their current setbacks, forcing him to finally join the fray as Bun Orange.
  • Catchphrase: "Seems like you're in a pinch."note
  • Cat Folk: In his true form he has cat eyes and white hair.
  • Cerebus Retcon: His love for lollipops and his ability to procure anything seems like humorous quirks until #27 reveals 1) as an alien, his species needs sugar to keep their glamors on and 2) all the stuff he's using as his job are actually stuff from the ship he used to arrive on Earth, meaning he's giving up his chance to return home.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: For the Boonboomgers specifically. It's implied his preferred form of "helping" had been to keep watch all of their battles from the side, ready to save them by tossing in items he believes they would need already on-hand. #7 shows that this form of helping doesn't last however, as his multiple attempts to assist the Boonboongers are all rendered moot when they are able to save themselves before he could do anything. This ends up being huge red flag of Can't Catch Up for him which forces him to provide direct assistance by finally stepping into the fray himself.
  • Combat and Support: When he's first introduced, he's shown as an expert procurer willing to stay on the sidelines while Taiya and Ishiro handle combat duties. Even with the additions of Mira and Jyo to the team, he's still reluctant to join the fray himself, until MadRex's arrival gives him a reason to take to the field.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character:
    • Stinger was a man who would occasionally show his softer side to his teammates. Genba, however, doesn't, and rarely interacts with Taiya outside of business.
    • Bud regularly showed disdain for his teammates but would still at least acknowledge them as good-hearted people. Genba, despite his elusive nature, never shows any form of disrespect.
    • Akira Nijino was a defector from the villain faction who was the Sixth Ranger on the team and felt out of place with his teammates due to his past. Genba is not only from the team to begin with, but despite his elusive nature he actually feels comfortable enough with them to hang with the group if he feels like it. Both of them also temporarily leave their respective teams, but while Akira did so because of a Deal with the Devil he made with General Schwarz, Genba did so willingly because he became revenge-driven after seeing Disrace again. They both meet in the Crossover episode with ToQger which fleshes out their difference even further.
  • Crazy-Prepared: A bit too befitting for his job as "Procurementer", he almost always just whips out whatever he believes the Boonboomgers need at any moment, right out of Hammerspace. #27 reveals that the reason he's so prepared is because they're items based off of parts from his ship.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Born the prince of planet Bureki, his father was imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit, and his home was conquered by Disrace.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Downplayed. While he's not particularly bothered by it, he implies in #10 that he isn't really sure with what to do with his life aside from supporting people, which is why he took the ISA's delivery job in the first place. This gets played straight with his arc in the 3rd LAP, as both Taiya and MadRex point out that he's lost his true sense of purpose in pursuit of revenge against Disrace. #33 sees him come back to the team having found his purpose: being with the team to fulfill their dream, while eventually recapturing planet Bureki with their help.
  • Fallen Prince: The former prince of planet Bureki, who fled into exile after his home was conquered by the Hashiriyans.
  • Fiery Redhead: Averted in the first two laps, but played very straight in the third one. Zig-zagged since his true form's hair is white.
  • Foil: Jyo is a hot-blooded newcomer who has no experience with the team and would always get his ass whupped in his earlier interactions with the Hashiriyans. Genba, on the other hand, is a much more stoic individual and has not only worked with Taiya but was also instrumental in some of the team's victories against the Hashiriyans. One is a human and the other an alien.
  • Genius Sweet Tooth: The man is never seen without his trademark lollipops and he's the guy in charge of procuring what Taiya purchases. It turns out that he needs to eat sweets in order to keep his alien identity a secret.
  • Get a Hold of Yourself, Man!: In #27, Taiya is forced to calm down Genba from his berserker rage after his attacks start injuring their fellow Boonboomgers.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: The main reason why Genba stays on the sidelines is because he believes that his talents are only suited to procuring and nothing else. It isn't until the team are driven into a corner by Madrex that he realizes that he can be far more than what he claims to be if he puts his mind to it.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • He carries an affection for Beloras much like Bundorio.
    • He used to be a soccer player until Waruido Spindo bought his team.
  • Iconic Item: Always carries around a lollipop of sorts. This is based on one Taiya gave him as a thanks for fixing up his car when they first met and also because sugar is necessary to hide his true identity as an alien.
  • Irony: Genba is a catlike alien who requires sweets to maintain his human guise. In real life, cats can't detect sweetness with their taste buds.
  • It's Not You, It's My Enemies: This is why he leaves the team at the end of #27, as he doesn't want to involve the Boonboomgers in his quest for revenge against Disrace. He returns to the team in #33 and they defeat Disrace together.
  • Last of His Kind: As far as he knows, he is the sole survivor of Planet Bureki and the Royal House of Livery.
  • Lord Country: Inverted; he uses his planet/kingdom's name as part of his alias, rather than it being part of his real name.
  • Mysterious Past: With him becoming a focus character in the 3rd LAP, it's revealed that very little about him beyond his activities as Taiya's associate and as a Boonboomger are known. His ISA file in #26 reveals that there's nothing else they know about him besides the aforementioned, in contrast to the others having well-documented dossiers. The next episode reveals that he's an alien from Planet Bureki which was conquered by the Hashiriyans.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: He's so absorbed in his revenge on Disrace, that when Sakito and Byun Diesel ask to help him, he refuses and says that he's the only one that should destroy him. He eventually gets his wish in #35 when the team lets him land the final blow on Disrace (Only in his regular size; They defeat Disrace together after he grows giant) knowing he deserved this more than anyone else.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: While he's generally easygoing and laid back, for reasons unknown, the sight of Rebuilding Team Captain Disrace is enough to make Genba fly into a murderous rage that almost gets his teammates killed. This is because Disrace lead the campaign that resulted in his home planet being conquered.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Genba is rarely seen without a grin on his face. The few times that he doesn't indicate that something is very wrong.
  • Playing with Fire: His true form allows him to conjure fire streams, though they only seem to come out when he's enraged by something.
  • Punny Name:
    • His name is based on (kouji)genba/(工事)現場/"(construction) site"(written with different kanji) and "brake". He lampshades the former in #4.
Genba: Yeah, this is Genba at the site of the incident...
    • His true name, Genbard De Livery II, is a pun on the word "Delivery".
  • Really 700 Years Old: According to the character book, he's actually 100027 years old. His species must really have a long life span.
  • Revenge Before Reason: In the 3rd LAP, Genba decides to leave the team to pursue Disrace, knowing that his lust for revenge will be a detriment to them. While the team tries to convince him to come back, he often brushes them off, stating that his need for revenge comes first. He finally overcomes this in #33 after getting a hard lecture from Shirabe and Bundorio (And one from Sakito in the previous episode), realizing that revenge isn't worth losing his friendship with the team.
  • The Scrounger: He's an expert procurer who helps Taiya acquire what he needs. For instance, he served as the go-between to help Taiya buy out a junkyard that was instrumental in defeating the Soujiki Grumer. This later extends to him possessing items that the team somehow finds useful at least Once an Episode. It's later explained that this is a result of Genba applying his skills as the former heir to the Bureki procurement business after being stranded on Earth and the items are parts from his ship.
  • Secret-Keeper: Due to being Taiya's trusted collaborator and owning a Boonboom Booster, it's implied he's initially the only person who is fully aware of the Boonboomgers' covert hero activities and their identities, even before becoming one of them himself.
  • Stepford Smiler: What he was until the third Lap, when Disrace's arrival caused his dark past to be revealed.
  • Tame His Anger: Taiya is the only one who accepts his departure from the team so he could control his anger towards Disrace before coming back.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: After leaving the team, Genba refuses to make any contact with the Boonboomgers and won't even say a word to them when they meet on the battlefield. He becomes kind again after rejoining them in #33.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: He loves lollipops. This is because he needs the sugar to maintain his human disguise, lest he suffer a Glamour Failure.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: He and Sakito tend to clash a lot, particularly during Genba's departure from the team and in #41, but still like each other.
  • Walking Spoiler: The truth about Genba beyond his job as Taiya's procurement officer and fellow Boonboomger provides the major reveals for the 3rd LAP of the show.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Sakito uses the sumo match in #32 to lay into Genba about him going lone wolf on a pretty much suicidal mission.
    • In #41, Taiya transforms into his 119 form to cool off Genba and Sakito with a stream of water when things get heated between them.
    • In the same episode, Jyo calls out Genba and Sakito out for their competitiveness.
  • Wild Card: He becomes one after leaving the team, to the point where he's willing to attack Taiya should he and the other Boonboomgers interfere with Genba's quest for vengeance. He rejoins them in #33.
  • You Are Not Alone: In #32, Sakito and Akira both tell Genba that he has friends that care for him. In #33 Shirabe, Bundorio and even MadRex tell him the same, which convinces him to rejoin the team.

Boom! Boomboom! Boomboomboom! Victory! Yume o Todoke Tire!note

  • Brutish Weapon Brutish Character: Averted. Despite appearing like a man who just swings his weapon indiscriminately, Bun Orange is a controlled and precise fighter, with the Boonboom Change Axe's Axe Mode being more comparable to a modestly-sized hatchet than a proper battle axe. Played Straight when Disrace comes into the picture, with his fighting style devolving into berserk swinging.
  • Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: Zig-zagged when it comes to his Mecha. Bun Orange owns both the orange-colored Boonboom Dozer and the yellow-colored Boonboom shovel. While one would expect him to pilot the orange mecha, he usually pilots the yellow Boonboom Shovel while the orange Boonboom Dozer is considered as his auxiliary Mecha and is usually piloted by the other Boonboomgers.
  • Finishing Move: Bakuage Crash: Boonboom Axe Drive: Bun Orange charges the Boonboom Change Axe in Axe Mode. He then delivers a orange energy slash to the Kurumaju, destroying it.
  • Reverse Grip: Wields the Change Axe in this manner.

Additional members

    Sakito Homura/Bun Violet

Portrayed by: Yu Miyazawa (live), Masato Tsutamune (suit)
Young Sakito portrayed by: Ryōta Toba

The Troubleshooternote . A skilled fixer known as "the universe's #1 troubleshooter" who has traversed the cosmos for the last ten years. He harbors a great inner darkness that has led him to becoming addicted to chaos of any sort, be they simple children's fights or political disputes. As such, he spends most of his time outright seeking all forms of conflict to settle them the best way he knows how, even if he does like the disorder a little too much for his own good.

As Bun Violet, he fights using his speed.

Tropes applying to him in general

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sakito_homura.png
Bun Violet!

  • The Ace: He's adept at several skills to the point where he uses them to become "the universe's #1 troubleshooter", and even goes as far as to upstage the Boonboomger team in his debut.
(in response to Jyo thanking him for his help) "No need. I'm a top guy, after all."
  • Aloof Ally: At first. Outside of battles, he'd rarely hang out with the other Boonboomgers and just wander around with Byun-D in search for things to "clean up", and was still not 100% trusting on them because he believed that Taiya only wanted to gather information about the Hashiriyans from him, but he'd still come to the Boonboomgers' aid when the situation calls. In #25 Sakito fully accepts the Boonboomgers as his allies and decides to stay in Earth and fight alongside them.
  • Anti-Hero: Despite ultimately siding with the Boonboomgers, he still despises Earth and is more of a Wild Card who outright seeks conflicts to settle due to his Challenge Seeker qualities. The only reason he protects Earth regardless is due to the fact that his childhood best friend lives here, having started his own family, and he feels morally obliged to protect them. With that said, his indifference to Earth softens after he joins the Boonboomgers, which is shown in his love for children and when he decides to open an office for his "clean-up" services with Byun-D in #20.
  • Big Eater: He's shown in the opening sitting right in front of a grill with a skewer in both hands. He spends much of the pay he gets from his jobs on food, and his love for food even gets him in trouble in #31 as he's too weak to help the Boonboomgers fight Tokei Grumer Seconds after having had too much curry.
  • Blatant Lies: Implied in #18. When returning Kakeru's rare trading card, Sakito claims it was somehow mixed into his collection. However, Kakeru's concern over Sakito's well-being rather than the card's to his surprise made him awkwardly apologize, implying that he had actually stolen the card before fleeing to space and was unable to face Kakeru over it until now.
  • Body Sled: In #25, Sakito uses Cannonborg as one before defeating them.
  • Character Development: Sakito started up as a cynical man who doesn't care at all about Earth. In the finale, he decides to remain on the planet to help it's children in Taiya's stead.
  • I Choose to Stay: Sakito chooses to stay on Earth to honor Taiya's dream in his place. Byun-D does as well, not wanting to leave his best friend alone.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character:
    • Both Sakito and Mikoto Nakadai debut in their respective series as Wild Card speedsters with a troubled childhood, a knack for chaos and disorder and a lack of care towards Earth. But while Mikoto likes causing trouble and remained evil until the last few episodes of Abaranger, Sakito prefers cleaning up the chaos and joins the Boonboomgers two episodes after his debut when they put the life of his friend and his family at risk. Both of them also use prototypes of the other rangers' changers, but Sakito's Boonboom Controller isn't unstable like Mikoto's Dino Minder.
    • Jeramie Brasieri was a storyteller who often spoke and acted in riddles, hiding his true intentions and constantly confusing his comrades. Sakito is a wild child troubleshooter addicted to action and chaos. There's also the fact that Jeramie was half-Bognarok. Sakito has worked with the Hashiriyans but is fully human.
      • This applies to Rita Kaniska as well, with Rita being a stoic Ice Ruler of a country where they upholds law enforcement and order by acting as judge, jury, and executioner as the Supreme Justice to punish outlaws, and was a member of the Ohsama Sentai to begin with, while Sakito is a bombastic Wild Card addicted to chaos who was a hired gun willing to work with an intergalactic criminal organization for money up for a while, and is the Sixth Ranger of his team.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: It's revealed in #18 that he lost his parents at a young age with nobody else to take care of him. Rather than seek out his friend, he decided to go with Byun-D because he felt that Byun-D could actually take care of him. It's implied that this is what caused his hatred of Earth and his chaos addiction.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Two of them:
    • The first is when he and Byun-D arrive in Earth's atmosphere and crash the Boonboomgers' practice session in Highway Space.
    • The second is when he upstages the team in their specialties (helping children for Jyo, working at a cafe for Mira, procurement for Genba, and stealth for Ishiro) save Taiya, who barely manages to complete his delivery before their confrontation.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Initially, Sakito was a Wild Card who would even help the Hashiriyans if he's got anything to gain from it. But when the life of his best friend on Earth is endangered by them, Taiya convinces him to become an ally of the Boonboomgers, and he no longer teams-up with the Hashiriyans.
  • Foil: To Taiya. While Taiya is a mellow and humble individual who chooses to fight the Hashiriyans because they're in the way of his dream, Sakito is much more bombastic and loves fighting for the sake of it.
  • Food as Bribe: In #24, Bundorio reveals that he gave Sakito three servings of curry to convince him to come to the daycare.
  • Friendship Trinket: As revealed in #18, Sakito is in possession of a rare racer trading card that belonged to his childhood best friend Kakeru Nagata. Having anything happen to it is a huge Berserk Button for him, which the Sanseaters took advantage of by pickpocketing it off him as leverage to get him to eliminate the Boonboomgers for the Hashiriyan.
  • Handy Man: His marketing of himself as a "troubleshooter" means he'd literally shoot all kinds of "trouble" for those who hire him, which is mostly taking up all forms of odd jobs to earn his bread. This ranges from serious tasks such as "cleaning up" hit-list targets, to simpler mundane ones like literally cleaning up the streets.
  • Hated Hometown: Or in this case, "Hated Home Planet". It's revealed in #18 that the reason Sakito despises Earth is because he had no one to take care of him after his parents passed away, leading to him willingly joining up with Byun-D. Even when he formally joins the Boonboomgers and vows to defeat the Hashiriyans, he outright states that he barely cares about the planet.
  • Heroic Second Wind: In #25, Cannonborg manages to briefly overwhelm Sakito by augmenting themselves with arm blades. Sakito turns the tide using his speed and the other Boonboomgers' weapons.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Despite hating Earth at first, he's shown to be really fond of children.
    • He also used to be a soccer player before Waruido Spindo bought his team.
  • Hold the Line: In #24, Sakito takes over fighting from Ishiro so he can help the others wake up Taiya.
  • Image Song: High Speed Racer by Takayoshi Tanimoto.
  • Irony: Sakito started out with a vehement hatred of Earth due to his Dark and Troubled Past. He ends the series deciding to stay on Earth while the core Boonboomgers head off to the BBG to continue Taiya's dream.
  • Large Ham: Downplayed. While Sakito isn't necessarily over-the-top like most examples, he's not exactly the most subtle of the bunch considering his love for dramatic entrances. This makes him stand out a lot more next to his partner, the comparatively calmer Byun Diesel.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: In #28, Sakito is visibly confused when the other Boonboomgers are surprised by MadRex's return, as he wasn't there to witness his first defeat by them.
  • Missing Child: He disappeared at 10 years old, but it turns out that he had no parents or anyone else to look after him, which is why he left Earth with Byun-D.
  • Punny Name: His name in Eastern order is a play on "formula circuit". It also contains the word murasaki (violet) in it (i.e., Homura Sakito).
  • Purple Is Powerful: His wardrobe predominantly features purple, and he's more independently combat-capable than the other Boonboomgers due to traveling around the cosmos in the name of ending conflicts. This extends to his Ranger form.
  • The Reveal:
    • Sakito lost his parents at a young age and joined Byun-D after he visited Earth. To him, he was the only one who had the ability to care for him, as his best friend Kakeru Nagata was just a child like him back then.
    • Sakito's main reason for coming back to Earth was to return Kakeru's rare racer trading card, which he had took with him to space for the past seventeen years.
  • Sixth Ranger: The first violet-colored one in Sentai. While initially not on their side, he joins the Boonboomgers after Taiya convinces him that he won't be alone on Earth and that the Boonboomgers would happily accept him as a new member.
  • Sleeves Are for Wimps: His baseball uniform in #23 and soccer uniform in #41 has his sleeves rolled up, even in his Boonboomger form.
  • The Social Expert: He's had ten years to hone his craft in defusing conflicts, potential and otherwise.
  • Speed Demon: As Sakito himself says, he just rolls in the direction of chaos and lets the Boonboom Controller's Super-Speed carry him there. The lyrics for his theme, "High Speed Racer," more directly spell out the interplay of his cocky attitude and his speed.
(With a boost up that can't be denied, if I'm not in the race, what's the point?)
    I don't want a half-cocked determination
(OK! Heating up on my way to the final lap, gotta go after the turns or there's no point)
Racing to wherever I feel, a high speed racer!
  • Super Prototype: The Boonboom Controller is a piece of technology Bundorio created but later threw out before Sakito got his hands on it.
  • Super-Speed: He can use the Boonboom Controller to run extremely fast, even while not in his Bun Violet form.
  • Taking the Bullet: In #24, Taiya and Sakito protect their friends and the children from Acou-Gui's attack, which makes them fall asleep.
  • Taking the Bullet: In #24, Taiya and Sakito protect their friends and the children from Acou-Gui's attack, which makes them fall asleep.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: In #45, Sakito doesn't mind the earthlings calling him evil. He abandoned them years ago, after all. But what makes him angry is that they call the other Boonboomgers evil.
  • Throat Light: In #31, both Sakito and Byun-D get one after Mira feeds them with her curry.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: He loves Curry, stating it to be one of the only two things he likes about Earth (the other being fireworks).
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: He and Genba tend to clash a lot, particularly during Genba's departure from the team and in #41, but still like each other.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: In #41, Taiya transforms into his 119 form to cool off Genba and Sakito with a stream of water when things get heated between them. In the same episode, Jyo calls out Genba and Sakito out for their competitiveness.
  • Wild Card: When he first arrives on Earth, His M.O. is to go wherever there's chaos and intervene in whatever way that will benefit him, and will serve everyone, be it the Boonboomgers or the Hashiriyans, for a price. After the Hashiriyans threaten the life of his former best friend on Earth, Sakito fully allies with the Boonboomgers and goes against them.
  • "With Our Swords" Scene: In #25, Sakito borrows Ishiro's Boonboom Handle, Jyo's Boonboom Change Axe and Taiya's Zoonzoom Shokablaster before going to face Cannonborg alone.
  • You Are Not Alone: In #18, Taiya tells Sakito that no matter how troubled his past was, he and the other Boonboomgers will be there for him. This leads to Sakito choosing to side with the Boonboomgers for good.

    Bundorio Bunderas

Bundorio Bunderas/Boonboom Trailer/Bakuage Gattai Boonboomger Robo

Portrayed by: Rica Matsumoto (voice), Yohei Fujita (suit)

The Mechanic. Known to his friends as "Bunbun", Bundorio is a car-robot like alien who fell to Earth severely injured and was saved by Taiya. Living in the latter's secret underground garage, they worked together to create the Boonboomgers' equipment. He is also able to grow giant-sized, serving as the main body of the Boonboomger Robo and is able to bring out his full power when the Boonboomgers pilot him from his cockpit.

Tropes applying to him in general

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gglzhnqacaaysfw.jpg
Bundorio Bunderas!

  • Actor Allusion: Bundorio's sun visor and his red helmet combine to form the shape of a baseball cap, with the red tire on his forehead front and center. This brings to mind Matsumoto's most well-known anime role. And like Satoshi/Ash, Bundorio gets fatally struck by an energy beam in #44 and brought back to life via the power of emotions (sorrow in Satoshi's case, hope in Bundorio's) in the final episode.
  • Affectionate Nickname: He often gets called "Bunboom" by Taiya, "Bun-chan"note  by Mira, "Bun-san" by Jyo, "Bun-sama"note  by Shirabe, and "Bun-noji"note  by Spindo.
  • Alliterative Name: Bundorio Bunderas.
  • Arch-Enemy: Spindo sees him as this, due to Bundorio defecting from the Hashiriyans and causing his arrest and incarceration. Learning that Bundorio is still alive actually motivates Spindo to defy Orcus on His Throne and personally go to Earth to deal with Bundorio himself. Fittingly, he's the one (with help from Taiya) to deal the final blow to Spindo.
  • Back from the Dead: Is resurrected in the finale, thanks to the combined power of the energy source, Nicola's pendant and the voices of Earth's children.
  • Big Damn Heroes: A newly-revived Bundorio returns just in time to ward off a deadly attack by Spindo.
  • Big Good: Alongside Taiya, as both of them created the Boonboom Cars and the rest of the Boonboomgers' equipment.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: As excitable and obsessed with cooking curry as he is, Bundorio is a genuinely talented mechanic who is essential to the operations of Boonboomgers. In fact, he was so talented that he caught the attention of Waruido Spindo, who went out of his way to arrange events so that Bundorio would be willing to join his side, with Bundorio's contributions being a significant reason why the Hashiriyans were able to become such a prominent group through the universe in the present day.
  • Casting Gag: This is not the first time Rica Matsumoto voiced a Super Sentai team's support robot who doubles as part of their arsenal.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character:
    • The Shugods were titanic beings unable to change their size or speak in human dialect, and rarely interacted with their human partners outside of combat. Bundorio is not only able to shrink and grow on his own, but in addition to speaking the same language as the team, he regularly rubs shoulders with them even outside of combat.
    • Earther G6, another Robot Buddy portrayed by Rica Matsumoto, raised the Hoshikawa sibling after they were separated from their parents, and becomes a BFG for their finisher. Bundorio, on the other hand, was taken care of by Taiya after he crashed on Earth and becomes the Boonboomgers' mecha instead of a weapon.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: Acts as one to Rica Matsumoto's famous role of Satoshi/Ash Ketchum. Bundorio was like Satoshi once upon a time, having a dream to become a master because being forced to sacrifice it. But Boondorio wasn't able to bounce back easily and trusted the wrong people before searching for a new purpose as an intergalactic wanderer, in contrast to Satoshi having trustworthy friends and ultimately finding a new journey to explore the world after defeating Leon and becoming World Coronation King.
  • Crazy-Prepared: It's revealed in #39 that Bundorio made a set of extra Boonboom Changers in case one of them breaks, which comes in handy when Grantu damages Taiya's.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Bundorio was previously a racer in the Big Bang Grand-Prix who got his license to drive revoked after an accident involving a faulty mod piece. He soon joined the Hashiriyan as weapon specialist working directly under Waruido Spindo, but defected upon learning that Waruido staged the accident and was using his creations to terrorize planets. Wandering the cosmos Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life as a result, he ends up crashing into Earth and meeting Taiya, who rescues him. Hearing of his backstory, Taiya makes it his goal to get Bundorio able to re-enter the Grand-Prix, with him as the driver this time while Bundorio serves as the mechanic instead.
  • Demonic Possession: Falls victim to this trope in Boonboomger Vs. King-Ohger due to Manhole Grumer and Minongan Mouz using him in a ritual to revive a clone of Dagded Dujardin, with his eyes turning red to indicate this. Taiya manages to bring him back to normal by punching the curse out of him.
  • Fanboy: Used in a positive sense in #7. Due to having very little experience with the concept, Bundorio believes that his infatuation with the tire mascot Beloras is love. Mira clarifies that he's probably an "oshi"note  of Beloras and not actually in love with it.
  • Foreshadowing: Plenty of aspects throughout the season hint at Bundorio’s past as a Hashiriyan.
    • Despite the Boonboomger equipment being created with the goal of winning the Big Bang Grand Prix, Bundorio is prepared for the Hashiriyans arriving on Earth via the Sanseaters and advises Taiya to face them. He also somehow knew that whenever a Kurumaju is destroyed, they revert to the object they were created from - A feature that he implemented himself when creating them.
    • Bundorio is notably hesitant to meet up with Byun Diesel, despite the latter being eager to reunite. The reason why becomes clear when Byun-D realises what his old friend has been up to and is prepared to abandon him.
    • After Genba’s Dark and Troubled Past comes out and he’s ready to leave the Boonboomgers behind, Bundorio comforts him by telling him he’s a good person, but is hesitant to describe himself as such.
  • Large Ham: The team can break out into their moments in the pork section, but Bundorio does it so regularly that he has NO INDOOR VOICE sometimes.
  • Mechanical Lifeform: He's specifically noted to be an alien rather than a robot, even if he's practically one. Since he can eat the curry that he cooks, it's clear that he can derive sustenance from food instead of purely mechanical means.
  • Mission Control: Does this for the Boonboomgers from Taiya's garage when not active as Boonboomger Robo.
  • The Namesake: The Boonboomger team is named after him. It's later revealed that "Boomboomger" was originally the name of the team Bundorio and Byun Diesel formed in the Big Bang Grand Prix.
  • Non-Human Sidekick: A robot sidekick.
  • Oblivious to Love: He's not aware of Shirabe's advances towards him, though he's still very friendly with her.
  • One-Note Cook: While he is the Team Chef, he exclusively cooks curry stew due to it being the first Earth food Taiya introduced him to and thus became his Trademark Favorite Food. It's revealed in #45 that Bundorio even teaches Mira how to cook it when she served Bundorio's trademark curry to Taiya.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Played with. He wears a sun visor when in human-size and takes it off when in giant robo mode. This isn't really much of a problem, however, as he only ever leaves the base for a mecha battle and hardly ever travels outside of it when human-sized. There's another key difference between Bundorio and the Boonboomger Robo; the latter has twin ramps that flow down the back like a set of coattails or a Badass Cape, while Bundorio does not.
    • Averted in #7, where his trip outside has him wearing Cool Shades, a trenchcoat, and has his head wrapped in bandages. The piece de la resistance? A comically large (and familiar-looking) baseball cap. Heck, the only things that aren't covered are his hands and feet (though in the team's defense, Bundorio wouldn't really be able to wear any kind of shoe due to his colossal footprint).
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Was unwittingly this while working for Waruido Spindo. He only joined him because he had nowhere to go after retiring from the BBG and was never aware that Spindo was using his creations for his own evil means. After learning that Spindo was the one who caused his license' revocation, Bundorio quits from Hashiriyan and outs Spindo to the Space Police.
  • Punny Name: His name is a play on Antonio Banderas'.
  • Real Men Cook: If he's not fighting, tinkering, or overlooking operations, then he's cooking. Which seems to be compulsive.
  • The Reveal: In #9, Bundorio reveals that he was formerly a racer in the BBG, in that an accident had caused his racing license to be revoked. Wandering the cosmos led to him crashing onto Earth and meeting Taiya, who fixed him up and took him in. Bundorio revealed that his dream was to re-enter the BBG once more, which quickly became Taiya's dream as well, but this time with him as the driver while Bundorio is the mechanic.
    • In #35, Bundorio reveals the accident that got his license revoked was caused by him using a modded part from a fan when he was fixing Byun-D's car, Taking the Heat for the incident so that Byun-D's license wouldn't get revoked as well. The thing is, Spindo was the one who sent that part, and he used it as leverage to get Bundorio to join him. Bundorio eventually defected from the Hashiriyan when he discovered Spindo was using his creations to inflict suffering and collect Gyahsoline.
  • Robot Buddy: The Boonboomgers's personal robot helper and partner.
  • Shout-Out: His appearance and background as an alien robot that turns into a truck and works with humans is one to Optimus Prime. #44 to #46 even features him being killed by the Big Bad and the heroes searching for an artifact that fits into his chest cavity to save him, just like what happened to Optimus in Revenge of the Fallen.
  • Sizeshifter: Bundorio can shrink down to human size and then enlarge to being a proper Humongous Mecha when needed.
  • Taking the Heat: It's revealed in #35 that Bundorio took full responsibility for the mod incident so Byun-D wouldn't have his license revoked.
  • Tired of Running: In #35, Bundorio joins in the roll call and ground fight to personally let Waruido Spindo to know that he's done running, declaring that Spindo can take the fight to them.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: He loves curry, to the point that he has an Image Song about it. #31 reveals that this is because it's the first thing he ate after Taiya found him.
  • Transforming Mecha: Transforms into the Boonboom Trailer.
  • Tsurime Eyes: The way his Big Anime Eyes are designed and situated tend to give him this look. They become even more pronounced as Boonboomger Robo.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Waruido Spindo staged the accident that got Bundorio's license to manipulate him in his darkest hours to join Hashiriyan and help him create the Kurumaju. After learning of that, Bundorio sold Spindo out to the Space Police and left Hashiriyan.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: In #19, Byun-D gives Bundorio a pep talk, telling him to stop doubting himself as he's got a great team backing him all the way, right before lending his Mach Wing to his former BBG teammate.

  • Badass Cape: He has one formed from the rails of his Gate Mode split into two.
  • Big Badass Rig: He can transform his body into the Boonboom Trailer, Bun Red's primary mecha.
  • Cool Gate: Not only does his Gate Mode activate the Attack Mode of the Boonboom Cars that pass through, on Earth it also acts as a portal to bring them out from Highway Space.
  • Dual Wielding: He can do this by wielding Boonboom Classic alongside Boonboom Offroad, forming Boonboomger Robo Nitoryu.
  • Finishing Move:
    • Boonboomger Robo:
      • Bakuage Driver: Boonboom Finish: Boonboomger Robo charges the Bakuage Driver with energy before performing an orange energy slash on the opponent.
    • Boonboomger Robo Nitoryu:
      • 9:15 Strike: Boonboom Finish: Boonboomger Robo Nitoryu combines the Bakuage Driver and Boonboom Classic's sword to form a spinning clock-like energy tire and uses the sword to launch it at the opponent.

    • Boonboomger Robo Knight:
      • Bakuage Sword: Boonboom Finish: Boonboomger Robo Knight engulfs the Bakuage Sword in flames from the Bakuage Burner, waves the Flaming Sword in a circle, and charges at his opponent to deliver a devastating fiery slash that destroys the opponent in seconds.
    • Boonboomger Robo Safari:
      • Bakuage Claw: Boonboom Finish: Boonboomger Robo Safari charges the Bakuage Claws and delivers a quadruple slash attack to the target.
    • Boonboomger Robo Monster:
      • Bakuage Wild: Boonboom Finish: Boonboomger Robo Monster gathers energy in its maw and unleashes an army of shark constructs, which bombard the target.
    • Boonboomger Robo 119:
      • Bakuage Rescue: Boonboom Finish: Boonboomger Robo 119 shoots a huge stream of water and slashes it at the target.
    • Boonboomger Robo Champion:
      • Bakuage Road: Boonboom Goal Line: Boonboomger Robo Champion shoots the Boonboom Cars and laser beams from the SuisoCar at the target.
  • Flight: Gains this ability as Wing Boonboomger Robo, accessed by combining with Byunbyum Mach Robo's wings.
  • Gun Fu: Utilizes this style of combat in Police Form.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: 119 Form, obtained via combining with Boonboom Leo Rescue and Shobosha.
  • Personality Powers: A notable aspect of the mecha is that certain combinations will cause notable changes to Bundorio's personality, with the default combination changing absolutely nothing, Police becoming a Cowboy Cop, and Builder being a Boisterous Bruiser amongst many.
  • Power Crutch: His Gate Mode is required for all Boonboom Cars to pass through in order to activate their Attack Mode.
  • Super Mode: Champion Form, obtained via combining with the Champion Carrier.

    Byun Diesel

Byun Diesel/Byun Byum Mach/Bakuage Henkei Byun Byum Mach Robo

Portrayed by: Natsuki Hanae (voice), Masashi Takada (suit)

Sakito's best friend, and a former racer of the Big Bang Grand Prix hailing from the same planet as Bundorio, whom he was partners with until the latter's retirement. While he tends to scold Sakito for his love of chaos, the two of them share a deep bond due to their travels all over the universe. As a Giant Mecha, he becomes the Byun Byum Mach formula racecar, which can transform into the Byun Byum Mach Robo.

Tropes applying to him in general

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bsb_byun_diesel.png
Byun Diesel!

  • Always Someone Better: Bundorio mentions him in #16 as his Big Bang Grand Prix rival who was always ahead of him.
  • Broken Pedestal: After learning that Bundorio used to work for the Hashiriyans under Waruido Spindo, Byun-D is shaken and decides to not get himself involved with Bundorio anymore, taking Sakito with him. After learning that Bundorio was an Unwitting Pawn for Spindo and never meant any harm, he forgives him and rejoins the Boonboomgers.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: It generally falls onto Byun-D whenever the responsibility of keeping Sakito's chaos craving in check comes into play.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: To Beet J. Stag as the Robot Buddy of the Sixth Ranger. J was created by Masato Jin himself, can transform into Stag Buster to fight alongside his teammates and is the Plucky Comic Relief of the show. Byun-D, on the other hand, is a lot more composed compared to his chaotic partner, is the one who raised him after he was orphaned, and he becomes his mecha, rather than another Boonboomger.
  • The Faceless: His face is hidden behind his visor, except for when he's in Byun Byum Mach Robo form.
  • Foil: To Bundorio. Bundorio is cheerful and ditzy and was helped by Taiya after he crashed on Earth, and wasn't a very skilled driver during the Big Bang Grand Prix. Byun-D, however, has a calmer demeanor, is a much more skilled driver and was also a parental figure to his own partner, Sakito.
  • Hypocrite: He gets angry at Bundorio when he finds out that he used to be a Hashiriyan, yet Byun-D and Sakito have also worked for them (Though as Hired Guns rather than full members) before joining the Boonboomgers.
  • In-Series Nickname: He's known as "Byun-D" in Big Bang Grand Prix circles.
  • Not So Above It All: Is not immune to moments of silliness and theatrics, despite being Sakito's minder.
  • Parental Substitute: To Sakito, with #18 revealing that he took him in after his parents died. He became his Best Friend as Sakito grew up.
  • Punny Name: His name is a play on Vin Diesel's.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Just like his partner, though given that he was able to gracefully retire from the Big Bang Grand Prix he is also notably a much better driver than Bundorio.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: A manly retired racer who shamelessly writes romance novels for a hobby.
  • The Rival: He and Bundorio were part of the same team during the Big Bag Grand Prix, but used to rival a lot.
  • Robot Buddy: To Sakito.
  • Secretly Wealthy: A Played for Laughs instance; Due to his parents dying long before he met the Boonboomgers, Sakito didn't have any money before taking on his current job as "cleaner", and believed he and Byun-D were broke after being stiffed on their latest payments. As he learned thanks to the ATM Grumer, however, Byun-D had earned himself decent wages in the BBG and saved up a significant amount, which he didn't bother disclosing to him until that particular moment.
  • Shout-Out: His white helmet, blue visor, and seemingly quiet demeanor from his promo pics appear to be one to the Stig family tree.
  • Throat Light: In #31, both Sakito and Byun-D get one after Mira feeds them with her curry.
  • Yellow/Purple Contrast: Like his partner, Byun Diesel has a lot of yellow parts on his mostly purple body.

  • Finishing Move:
    • Byun Byum Mach Robo:
      • Boonboom Controller: Byunbyum Finish: Byun Byum Mach Robo performs a more powerful version of Bun Violet's Arrow Drive.
    • Byun Byum Mach Robo ToQ Custom:
      • Fumikiriken:note  Byunbyum Finish: Byun Byum Mach Robo draws a circle around him with the Railway Crossing Sword, forming the ToQger logo. He then delivers a slash to the target, which creates energy constructs of the Resshas that bombard it and deal additional damage.
    • Byun Byum Mach Robo Go-On Custom:
      • Byun Byum Grand Prix Finish: Byun Byum Mach Robo fires a spiraling beam of energy from his bowgun, before following up with a slash.
    • Byun Byum Mach Robo Gokai Custom:
      • Byun Byum Mach Robo performs a variant of GokaiOh's Gokai Star Burst attack.
  • Flight: Is capable of this in base form thanks to his detachable wings, which he can also lend to Bundorio.
  • Meta Mecha: Has elements of this in Byun Byum Mach form, as not only does it visually look like a full formula racecar, it also looks like Byun seated in and driving a giant go-kart.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: Has two of those based on previous Sentai series, to promote the DX Robo Universe that is compatible with Mach Robo:
    • ToQ Custom form, granted by combining with Blue, Green, Yellow, and Pink Resshas.
    • Go-On Custom form, granted by combining with Engine Speedor.
    • Gokai Custom form, granted by combining with the Gokai Galleon and Machines.
  • The Straight and Arrow Path: Wields a bowgun, just like his partner.

    Boonboom Leo Rescue/Boonboom Leon

Boonboom Leo Rescue/Bakuage Henkei Boonboom Leon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bsb_boonboom_leo_rescue.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bsb_boonboom_leon.png
Bun Red 119's mecha, created by Bundorio with the help of the other Boonboomgers for Taiya's 119 form. Like Safari and Marine before it, Boonboom Leon has Artificial Intelligence implemented into it, making it sentient.
  • Artificial Intelligence: It's equipped with a newer version of the AI program implemented in Boonboom Safari and Boonboom Marine.
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: The giant ladder of Boonboom Leo Rescue becomes a big silver tail as Boonboom Leon, and in addition to activating the attack modes of other Boonboom cars, it can aim forward to spray the opponent, much like a scorpion's tail.
  • Big Badass Rig: It's a fire truck, which fulfills the badass part, and its large size rivals Bundorio and Byun-D in their mecha forms. What makes it even more badass is that it can transform into a lion.
  • Fiery Lion: Played with. While it is a lion associated with fire, it's actually a fire truck dedicated to fighting fire instead.
  • Finishing Move: Bakuage Scramble: Boonboom Leon delivers an energy slash from the Bakuage Driver and Bakuage Sword following a rapid fire barrage from the Bakuage Magnum then a tail slam from the Bakuage Hammer to destroy the enemy.
  • King of Beasts: It's a giant mechanical lion. Fittingly, it's piloted by the Boonboomgers' leader.
  • Making a Splash: It's a fire engine mecha, so what do you expect?
  • Mecha Expansion Pack: Other Boonboom cars can attach to Leon's sides and become weapons for it.
  • Out of Focus: After #33 the Boonboomgers start using Leo Rescue/Leon and Boonboomger Robo 119 much less in favor of the Champion Carrier and Boonboomger Robo Champion, only using them again in episodes 41 and 42.
  • Red Is Heroic: It comes with being a fire truck mecha.
  • Transforming Mecha: It can transform between a fire truck and a lion.

    Champion Carrier
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bsb_champion_carrier_1.webp
A gigantic car carrier created by Taiya and Bundorio to travel in space and carry the Boonboom Cars to the Big Bang Grand Prix.
  • Big Badass Rig: It's a car carrier that can carry four Boonboom Cars at a time and is twice as bigger than the Boonboom Trailer.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: The Champion Carrier appears on Lap 3's poster, alongside a silhouette of Boonboomger Robo Champion, and blueprints of it can be seen in some episodes before its proper debut.
  • Mythology Gag: Invoked in-universe. Its function to link up its carriers and the Boonboom Trailer together in a train-like formation is modelled after the ToQ Ressha's linkage system.
  • Odd Name Out: It's the only Boonboomger mecha to not have the word "Boonboom" (Or "Byunbyum") in its name.
  • Spacecraft: While it doesn't look like one, the Champion Carrier was created to carry the Boonboom Cars to the BBG through space.
  • Transformation Trinket: The Champion Changer is modeled after the front part of the Champion Carrier.

    Bun Bot
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1000046490.jpg
A giant maintenance robot in the Boonboomgers' garage, which also acts as the "Go!" signal for deploying the Boonboom Cars.
  • All There in the Manual: Its name is only ever provided in toy manuals for Boonboomger Robo and in Transformation & Combination Course! Part 2.
  • Kibbles and Bits: Its main purpose as part of Boonboomger Robo is to just fill in his torso cavity for certain forms; in the original toyline it also acts as storage for Bundorio's regular face, which appears in-series as part of its combination sequence.
  • Satellite Character: Given that its original role in the toyline is to solely provide/store Kibbles and Bits for the Boonboomger Robo.

    Boonboom Cars
Giant super cars built by Taiya and Bundorio. Housed within the courier service headquarters' garage, they are launched to assist and combine with Boonboomger Robo to fight against giant Kurumaju.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: All of the Boonboom Cars already appear in the first episode and in the following ones prior to each Car's proper debut. But as it turns out, while they are functional as cars, most of them still required a new member to join the Boonboomgers and pilot them (Police and Builder Cars) or further tuning to be fully functional weaponized cars (Knight and Monster Cars), hence their proper Debut Queue over the course of the following episodes as each of their maintenance comes to completion.
  • Improvised Weapon: Despite having Attack Modes, the Boonboom Cars' original purpose is to simply be vehicles in the planned Big Bang Grand Prix, which means that them being used as weapons for Boonboomger Robo was simply an improvised means of fighting the Kurumaju. However, sometimes the Boonboomgers used the Boonboom Cars' weapon modes while training for the BBG, such as Mira using Boonboom Shovel to pass the others in #16.
  • Weaponized Car: Each one of the Boonboom Cars has a weapon stored inside it, that is deployed after the car passes through Boonboom Trailer's Gate Mode.

Boonboom SuperCar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boonboom_supercar.png
Taiya's personal convertible. It's equipped with a rocket booster under its hood.
  • Forgot About His Powers: In the first episode, the Boonboom SuperCar can assume a Bakuage mode, in which it becomes black with cyan Tron Lines, but it's never used after that and was possibly only shown to promote its limited toyline variation.
  • Rocket-Powered Weapon: The Boonboom SuperCar is equipped with a rocket booster hidden in its hood.
  • Uniformity Exception: Unlike the other Boonboom Cars, the Boonboom SuperCar is a regular-sized car and thus never used for combinations, instead being primarily used as the team's primary form of transportation.

Boonboom Offroad

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boonboom_off_road_6.png
Bun Blue's main mecha, which turns into a screwdiver in Attack Mode. It forms Boonboomger Robo's default formation with Boonboom Wagon.
  • Improvised Weapon: Its Attack Mode (and weapon for Boonboomger Robo) is a gigantic screwdriver, dubbed the Bakuage Driver. The Boonboomger Robo uses this as its primary sword.
  • The Nudifier: Not literally, but the way the Kurumaju function means that this completely fits the bill in a demographically appropriate manner, as its common use is to unscrew off the giant Kurumaju's armor and weapons.

Boonboom Wagon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boonboom_wagon.png
Bun Pink's main mecha, which turns into a big hand in Attack Mode. It forms Boonboomger Robo's default formation with Boonboom Off-Road.
  • Power Fist: Becomes one for the Boonboomger Robo.

Boonboom Patrol Car 1

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boonboom_patrol_car_1_5.png
Bun Black's main mecha, which turns into a spike strip in Attack Mode. It forms Boonboomger Robo Police with Boonboom Patrol Car 2.
  • Irony: Despite being a police car, in #30 it briefly gets stolen by the Sanseaters who combine it with the Boonboom Killer Robo.
  • Me's a Crowd: Alongside its partner, it can temporarily split into a horde of police cars to overwhelm an enemy.
  • Spikes of Doom: Its main feature in Attack Mode is its spikes from its vertically-split hood, which it uses to either bite onto enemies or turn into road spikes to damage running enemies.
  • Trap Master: It and Patrol Car 2 create virtual traps that can cripple or fool enemies such as Yalcar into falling off the edge.
  • Use Your Head: Boonboom Patrol Car 1 deploys as a mobile spike strip, which carries over to when it forms the head of Boonboomger Robo Police and allows it to deliver vicious headbutts.

Boonboom Patrol Car 2

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boonboom_patrol_car_2.png
Bun Black's secondary mecha, which turns into a pair of pistols in Attack Mode. It forms Boonboomger Robo Police with Boonboom Patrol Car 1.
  • Guns Akimbo: Becomes twin pistols for the Boonboomger Robo Police.
  • Irony: Despite being a police car, in #30 it briefly gets stolen by the Sanseaters who combine it with the Boonboom Killer Robo.
  • Me's a Crowd: Alongside its partner, it can temporarily split into a horde of police cars to overwhelm an enemy.
  • Trap Master: It and Patrol Car 1 create virtual traps that can cripple or fool enemies such as Yalcar into falling off the edge.

Boonboom Shovel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boonboom_shovel.png
Bun Orange's main mecha, which becomes a shovel in Attack Mode. It forms Boonboomger Robo Build with Boonboom Dozer.
  • Artificial Limbs: In a sense. The shovel arm becomes a third arm for Boonboomger Robo Builder that allows it to effectively wield the otherwise heavy Boonboom Dozer in hammer mode.
  • Enemy Scan: As Boonboomger Robo Builder's helmet, it can scan for enemy weaknesses using its searchlight.

Boonboom Dozer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boonboom_dozer.png
Bun Orange's secondary mecha, which becomes a sledgehammer in Attack Mode. It forms Boonboomger Robo Build with Boonboom Shovel.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boonboom_racing.png
One of Bun Red's secondary mecha, which becomes a burner in Attack Mode. It forms Boonboomger Robo Knight with Boonboom Classic.
  • Badass Cape: Becomes one for the Boonboomger Robo Knight in addition to forming it's head.
  • Incendiary Exponent: One of its main powers is setting things on fire alongside itself. When used with Boonboom Classic as part of Boonboomger Robo Knight, it turns the latter car into a Flaming Sword.
  • Law of Chromatic Superiority: It's the most powerful of the Boonboom Cars that debut in the first Lap of the show, and is colored red and therefore associated with Taiya.
  • Necessary Drawback: The sheer power of this Boonboom Car results in the driver experiencing powerful forces on their body that can tire them out or put them in danger, which is why Taiya never deploys it in the first few episodes. It's only when the other Boonboomgers fully support his dream that they're able to withstand the tremendous recoil as a unit, which allows them to form Boonboomger Robo Knight and defeat MadRex.

Boonboom Classic

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boonboom_classic.png
One of Bun Red's secondary mecha, which becomes a sword in Attack Mode. It forms Boonboomger Robo Knight with Boonboom Classic, and alternatively can be wielded alongside Boonboom Off-Road in Boonboomger Robo Nitoryuu.
  • Cool Sword: Becomes one for Boonboomger Robo Knight and Boonboomger Robo Nitoryu.

Boonboom Offroad Ghost

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boonboom_off_road_ghost.png
A yellow copy of Boonboom Offroad. It formed Boonboomger Robo Puncher with Boonboom Off-Road.
  • Hard Light: It's stated to be a copy of Boonboom Offroad that can be turned into a temporary tangible version even in the midst of battle.
  • One-Shot Character: The car only appeared in #8 and doesn't make any appearances alongside the other Boonboom Cars. Its toy version was likewise sold in limited quantities.
  • Palette Swap: It's a yellow version of Boonboom Offroad that can be paired with its blue counterpart.
  • Power Fist: It forms one alongside the original Boonboom Offroad, which Bundorio wields as Boonboomger Robo Puncher.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Offroad Ghost doesn't appear after #8, and it's unknown if it was destroyed in the battle with MadRex or simply put out of use after that episode. Though it appears in its miniature Boonboom Car form in a Freeze-Frame Bonus during the party in #34, so possibly the latter.

Boonboom Safari

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boonboom_safari.png
One of Bun Orange's secondary mecha, unique in that it has an AI programmed in it. It becomes a pair of claws in Attack mode, and forms Boonboomger Robo Monster with Boonboom Marine.
  • Animal Motifs: It appears to be based on a feline, fitting with the Safari theme. Ishiro lampshades this after Genba won its trust: He managed to take the Sanseaters off-guard, just like a real wild animal.
  • Artificial Intelligence: Boonboom Safari is equipped with one, which makes it sentient.
  • Foreshadowing: Boonboom's safari is one of Genba's boonboom cars with a feline appearance. Genba himself turns out to be a cat-like alien in #27.
  • Mythology Gag: Invoked in-universe. Its AI implementation was inspired by the Engines after Taiya witnessed the partnership between Sosuke and Speedor.
  • Secret Test of Character: When Safari is first activated, it doesn't want to cooperate with any of the Boonboomgers. After Genba manages to trick the Sanseaters in one of their plans, the impressed Boonboom Safari becomes his partner and helps him and the other Boonboomgers out.
  • Uniformity Exception: Boonboom Safari has a face, which wouldn't make it look out of place in Go-Onger but makes it stand out here. Justified since it's technically sentient.
  • Wolverine Claws: It forms the claws of Boonboomger Robo Monster.

Boonboom Marine

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boonboom_marine.png
One of Bun Blue's secondary mecha, unique in that it has an AI programmed in it. It becomes a cannon in Attack Mode, and forms Boonboomger Robo Monster with Boonboom Safari.
  • Animal Motifs: It's based on aquatic animals, especially sharks and dolphins.
  • Artificial Intelligence: Boonboom Marine is equipped with one, which makes it sentient.
  • Breath Weapon: Becomes one as the head of Boonboomger Robo Monster.
  • Mythology Gag: Invoked in-universe. Its AI implementation was inspired by the Engines after Taiya witnessed the partnership between Sosuke and Speedor.
  • Secret Test of Character: Like Safari, it doesn't want to cooperate with any of the Boonboomgers at first. After Ishiro shows his determination and saves his favorite aquarium, Marine becomes his partner.
  • Tsundere: Marine's first episode presents it as one as it shuts down immediately after Ishiro offers it flowers for its service despite approving of him earlier. Ironic, considering how Ishiro is the one who programmed its AI system.

Boonboom Leo Rescue and Boonboom Shobosha

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bsb_boonboom_leo_rescue.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boonboom_shobosha.png
Bun Red 119's pair of engine-themed mecha. Together they form Boonboom Leon and Boonboomger Robo 119.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: Boonboom Leo Rescue is almost as large as the Boonboom Trailer, while Boonboom Shobosha is the same size as a Boonboom Car.
  • Combining Mecha: They combine together to form Boonboom Leon.
  • Satellite Character: Boonboom Leo Rescue, despite being the bigger of the two, serves as a shell for Shobosha that can only be controlled when said car is inserted to the front of Leo Rescue.

Boonboom SuisoCar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boonboom_suisocar.png
An auxiliary Boonboom Car created alongside the Champion Carrier. In its attack mode it can become two rocket engines for the Champion Carrier and Boonboom Trailer, and can also form a pair of shoulder cannons for Boonboomger Robo Champion's finisher.
  • Palette Swap: It's a transparent-blue-colored version of Boonboom Patrol Car 2.
  • Rocket-Powered Weapon: In addition to serving as a pair of shoulder cannons, it also serves as the rocket thrusters for the Champion Carrier and Boonboom Trailer when they fly into space.
  • Shoulder Cannon: Splits into a pair of those for Boonboomger Robo Champion's finisher.

International Space Agency (I.S.A.)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/international_space_agency_logo.webp
A government organization in charge of handling alien-related activities. Initially after the Boonboomgers for illegally using Imported Alien Phlebotinum for their equipment, their investigator Shirabe Saibu reluctantly formed a partnership with them after Taiya's negotiations. Ironically, it turns out that the top brass of the organization are in collusion with the Hashiriyans.
  • Oddly Small Organization: Throughout the first two arcs, Shirabe was the only member of the I.S.A. to make regular appearances in the series. Beginning with the third arc, however, the organization begins receiving some long-delayed expansion. Justified since they turn out to be a lot more sinister than they originally seemed, and in the final episode Tokoyari reveals to Shirabe that he's just the tip of the iceberg that is the I.S.A.'s corruption.

    Eiichiro Tokoyari (Unmarked Spoilers)

Portrayed by: Keisuke Horibe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bsbbg_tokoyari.jpg

I.S.A.'s Director of Operations and Shirabe's boss. He is actually collaborating with Waruido Spindo to gather resources from the Hashiriyans.

  • As Long as There Is Evil: When Shirabe arrests him, he tells her that she and the Boonboomgers won't win and warns her of the people backing him up, hinting about figures with higher authority than him in the ISA.
  • Bad Boss: He sends someone to execute Steer when she fails his task.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Forms a big bad triumvirate with Waruido Spindo and Raita Naito. Though he's the lesser evil in comparison to the former, he becomes a secondary threat to the Boonboomgers by framing them as enemies to the public.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: In comparison to Spindo, Tokoyari comes off as a minor annoyance, and would've never succeeded in framing the Boonboomgers as enemies if not for Ishiro's apparent betrayal (a big emphasis on apparent).
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: To Rcules Husty, as a third force who's using the conflict between the heroes and the villains for his own gain. While Rcules appeared from the start of the series, had his own Ranger form and was Good All Along, Tokoyari first appears halfway through Boonboomger, has no ranger form of his own and never redeems herself.
  • Create Your Own Hero: Him sending Ishiro to infiltrate Taiya's house has led to Ishiro joining him and Bundorio and becoming Bun Blue.
  • Dirty Coward: After the Boonboomgers weaken Spindo and leave him unable to fight them by himself, Tokoyari realizes that the Hashiriyans will no longer be useful for him and takes his leave with Maimi.
  • Graceful Loser: While he does taunt Shirabe about having backers and the corruption in ISA going deeper than she knows, he accepts he's been defeated and goes with the authorities without a fight.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Shirabe exposes his collaborations with the Hashiriyans in the finale and has him arrested.
  • Les Collaborateurs: He and Raita Naito are working for the Hashiriyans, though Eiichiro has his own agenda behind it.
  • Mirror Character: His talk with Shirabe in his first episode has many parallels with Ishiro's first meeting with Taiya as shown in The Informer's Secret. When Shirabe tells Tokoyari of Taiya, he deems his willingness to protect people for nothing in return as something childish that could put his life in danger, just as Ishiro did when he learnt of Taiya and Bundorio's dream. But while Ishiro eventually became Taiya and Bundorio's trusted partner, Eiichiro's mindset has never changed.
  • Non-Action Big Bad: Since he's just a normal, powerless human, he never gets involved with the Boonboomgers in person and instead sends other people to do his bidding.
  • Shout-Out: His name in Eastern order is one to The A-Team's Japanese title, 特攻野郎Aチーム/Tokkō Yarō Ei Chīmunote .
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: He attempts to do this when the Boonboomgers are on the brink of defeating the Hashiriyans, but Shirabe defies this by arresting him.
  • Villain Respect: He accepts his arrest rather gracefully and tells Shirabe that she's more skilled than he thought.
  • Walking Spoiler: His appearance reveals the true nature of the ISA.
  • Xanatos Gambit: Pulls one by sending Ishiro to disband the Boonboomgers: Either they comply and pave the way for the Hashiriyan and ISA's invasion, invasion, or refuse to disband but are framed as the world's enemies. They choose the latter, so not only does the ISA starts spreading propaganda against them, but also raids their base and seizes the Boonboom Cars.

    Shirabe Saibu

Portrayed by: Atsuko Hashiyasume

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/girbn_ibeaakbo1.jpg

A mysterious investigator for the I.S.A. who has been charged with overlooking the Boonboomgers' activities. While she makes herself out to be an aloof professional, her interactions with the Boonboomgers reveal a far softer side to her than she lets on.

  • Alliterative Name: Shirabe Saibu.
  • Big Eater: She manages to down 4 large servings of Bundorio's curry stew.
  • Character Development: She starts off as an Obstructive Bureaucrat who reluctantly works with the Boonboomgers on her boss's request. She slowly grows to become a true ally and friend to them, resolving by the end of the series that she is a Boonboomger as well, just without the suit.
  • Consummate Professional: She appears to be a strict, cold investigator solely dedicated to her job. "Appears" is our keyword.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Appears strict and cold when interrogating Mira...then flips out when Taiya reveals he knows who she is. She later is shown to be blushing heavily when Boondorio compliments her.
  • Forbidden Love: #19 reveals that Shirabe doesn't confess her love to Bundorio because of the panic she thinks she'll cause if she dated an extraterrestrial being, despite working for an organization that is supposed to prevent them from coming to Earth.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Implied. She's by and large unaware of The Conspiracy involving her boss Tokoyari, Lightning Tech, and the Hashiriyans. Subverted when she finally becomes aware of it in #39 and decides to turn on Tokoyari and help the Boonboomgers against him.
  • Meaningful Name: Shirabe means "to investigate''.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero!: In #26 she told Eiichiro Tokoyari that the Boonboomgers aim to participate in the Big Bang Grand Prix during her report about the Boonboomgers. Unknowingly to her, Tokoyari tells that to Waruido Spindo, who buys the race to torment Bundorio.
  • Not So Above It All: She joins the Boonboomgers in the baseball game against the Hashiriyans in #23, even though she doesn't know how to play. In fact, Maimi teases her in her first appearance for being so close with the Boonboomgers.
  • Not So Stoic: #4 quickly reveals that she has quite the dorky side underneath her stoic demeanor, as indicated when she starts to fiercely blush after Bundorio calls her "onee-san".
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: She hired Jyo to help her put a stop to the Boonboomgers' activities, which went as well as you'd expect. She eventually obliges to Taiya's demands, with the caveat that they need a liaison between the Boonboomgers and the I.S.A. Thankfully, Jyo is the perfect candidate for the job.
  • Odd Name Out: Of the ISA-affiliated characters, she's the one whose name isn't a reference to a western vehicle-themed TV show. This is because she's also the one ISA-affiliated character who isn't part of their alliance with the Hashiriyans.
  • Rank Up: She becomes the I.S.A.'s new chief a few months after the Hashiriyan's defeat and Tokoyari's arrest, with Maimi serving as her secretary.
  • Ship Tease: There are hints that she has taken a shine to Bundorio, with her blushing after he calls her "onee-san", and #8 having her wanting to give him a Belora CD in person but chickening out at the last second. By #19, her Tanabata wish is that she gets to go on a date with him.
  • Shout-Out: Her name is possibly one to Seibu Keisatsu.
  • Through His Stomach: Bundorio gets her to open up after she's eaten four plates of his curry. In #5, when Bundorio decides to celebrate Jyo being a Boonboomger with a curry party, she cheers.
  • Token Good Teammate: The only member of the ISA who's not in on Tokoyari’s alliance wih the Hashiriyan.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In #39 where she delivers a spare Boonboom Changer to Taiya after his own was broken by Grantu Risk, almost risking her life by driving Boonboom Wagon without a Boonboomger suit.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She quickly develops a taste for Bundorio's curry stew after their first meeting.

    Maimi Baisu

Portrayed by: Reika Sakurai

Shirabe's best friend and Eiichiro Tokoyari's secretary.

Hashiriyan and I.S.A. Associates

    Raita Naito (Unmarked Spoilers)

Portrayed by: Katsuhiko Nagato

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ft_aastdfrh9ihreyn5_claefr_3viw0amyq_ocuxamwljl5bhk3hft44eixcyod3_v3k7tks69kxoaiwvhetcwoebvcc1k8xutbbyzfshs2luvtkotvvvma1k6ll_zsmy4svcfck6ogib1zrw_wfw.webp
Click to see Naito post Face Heel Turn

The CEO of Lightning Tech Corporation and the mentor of Taiya, who inspired him into becoming a deliveryman after Taiya helped him out. He's very proud of his protégé and entrusts him and the other Boonboomgers in protecting Earth. In reality, he's working with the ISA and the Hashiriyans.

  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Forms a Big Bad Triumvirate with Waruido Spindo and Eiichiro Tokoyari, though he's more hands-off than them.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: While on the outside he appears as a cheerful old businessman, he's actually collaborating with the ISA and the Hashiriyans, and completely loses all of his charm once Taiya finds out about this.
  • Broken Pedestal: Once he reveals his true colors in #44, Taiya clearly has lost all respect and admiration he had for his former traitorous mentor as a result. In #48 however, Taiya is seen visiting Naito when he is in prison, updating him about the Boonboomgers' next activities with very little malice.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: He's introduced in the second Lap as a guest character who only appears in two episodes, but gets a much bigger role once the third Lap rolls around.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: He's the president of Lightning Tech and is also working with the Hashiriyans and the ISA.
  • Deducing the Secret Identity: After Taiya fulfils his request and delivers the Bun Red plushie while himself transformed into Bun Red, Raita figures out that Taiya is Bun Red even without being there to see it, and becomes proud of him even more.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Despite working with the Hashiriyans, he appears to care for his nephew, Senji. When Senji tries to convince him that the Boonboomgers aren't evil, Raita doesn't get angry at him and instead tries to convince him otherwise. With that said, he doesn't seem to care that Senji and his friends were targeted by the Hashiriyans in #22.
  • Evil Costume Switch: A minor one. After his true nature is revealed, he starts wearing a fedora that makes him look like a crime boss.
  • Evil Genius: He's revealed to be the true creator of Boonboom Killer Robo, with Cannonborg only creating Boonboom Danger.
  • Evil Mentor: By virtue of serving as Taiya's life mentor as well as being a leading member of The Conspiracy in cahoots with the Hashiriyans.
  • Expy: To Juzaburo Namba, both of them being the CEO's of large corporations who supply the villains with weapons and make a profit out of it, pretend to act as parent figures to their "children" (The Namba Children and Taiya) while in reality they don't care for them, and were Unwitting Pawns for the alien Big Bads of their respective series all along.
  • Fatal Flaw: Greed. Despite being the head of an already massive corporation, he still couldn't resist getting richer, and ultimately assists in selling out the Boonboomgers, an act which causes him to come in conflict with his nephew and when the Boonboomgers clear their name, he gets arrested.
  • Foreshadowing: His name following the Shout-Out Theme Naming pattern of the Hashiriyans hints that he's just as evil as them.
  • Hate Sink: While he starts off as the complete opposite of this, by the time Taiya finds out the truth about him he becomes as abhorrent as Tokoyari and Spindo, if not more: He doesn't show any care at Taiya getting beaten up by Spindo, and even mocks him after giving him a Sadistic Choice.
  • Hazy-Feel Turn: While he does admit that he decided to help the Hashiriyans and the ISA simply out of greed, he never outright states that this was a wrong thing to do, so it's up in the air if he regrets this and would better himself after his imprisonment or fall to temptation again if another criminal organization like the Hashiriyans decides to invade Earth.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Is arrested alongside Tokoyari at the end.
  • Les Collaborateurs: #27 reveals that he's in cahoots with Tokoyari from the ISA and the Hashiriyans, seeing as Lightning Tech has begun mass production of the Boonboom Killer Robo in secret. With that said, he and Tokoyari have their own agenda behind collaborating with the Hashiriyans.
  • Mentor Archetype: He used to be one for Taiya, helping him expand his delivery services and become wealthy.
  • Shout-Out: His name in Eastern order is a reference for Knight Rider.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: His Motive Rant to Taiya in #44 explains why he decided to ally with the Hashiriyans. Given that people derive pleasure from the suffering of others, why even bother helping those who suffer if someone gains from it anyway?
  • The Sociopath: Aside from his chilling views as to why he'd sit by and watch people suffer, he coldly watched Taiya, whom he's known since he was a child, get brutally beaten by Waruido Spindo, showing no care or remorse at his suffering. Then, once Taiya is pinned down by Grantu Risk, he snatches his Boonboom Changer and forces him to choose between surrendering all of his assets to Lightning Tech, or watch one of his best friends, Bundorio get murdered. When Taiya finally relents, Raita smugly throws Taiya's own catchphrase back at him. Spindo even asks him in the next episode if he felt bad watching Taiya get beaten, and Raita replies that he merely taught Taiya the severity of being an adult. To which a disgustingly impressed Spindo labels both him and Tokoyari as scoundrels.
  • Wealthy Philanthropist: At first, Raita isn't above helping people in need, like creating a one-of-a-kind Bun Red plushie for a sick son of his colleague. Subverted when we find out that he's also using his wealth to help Tokoyari and the Hashiriyans.

    Steer

Portrayed by: Konomi Naito

Ishiro's former spy friend, hired by Eiichiro Tokoyari to find a way to the Boonboomgers' base and disable their fighting capabilities.

  • Dark Action Girl: She's capable of fighting even without weapons thanks to her experience as a spy.
  • The Dragon: Becomes a very short-living one to Tokoyari.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Ishiro, since both of them are spies hired by Tokoyari. While Ishiro cut ties with him after meeting Taiya and Bundorio, Steer didn't, even when it turned out that she was just his pawn.
  • It's Personal: She has a grudge against Ishiro for leaving her after becoming a Boonboomger, which is why she turns her back on him and accepts Tokoyari's request to sabotage them without hesitation.
  • Maker of Monsters: Makes Camera Grumer from an Ignition Key she somehow got her hands on.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name in Japanese can can translate to either "Steer", Following the Boonboomgers' theme naming convention, or "Stir", referencing her role in trying to stir discord between Ishiro and Taiya.
  • Never Say "Die": The last shot of her has an unknown figure standing right behind her, with the next shot showing a broken earpiece in her place. while Tokoyari orders the figure through his phone to deal with her. Though it's never outright said, Ishiro's somber reaction to it implies that she has been assassinated.
  • No Name Given: Steer is her codename as a spy. We never learn of her true name.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Right before Tokoyari's henchman kills her, she leaves a broken tracker device that Ishiro placed on her to warn him and the other Boonboomgers that Tokoyari is watching them.
  • Shout-Out: She's one to Ilsa Faust from Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.
  • You Have Failed Me: Eiichiro Tokoyari sends two people to take care of her when she fails to disable the Boonboomgers' fighting capabilities.

The BWCFA chairman and vice chairman

Chairman portrayed by: Hiroto Yoshimitsu

Vice chairman portrayed by: Jubun Fukuzawa

The chairmen of BWCFAnote  who make a deal with Waruido Spindo to join his Big Bang Soccer organization.

  • Actor Allusion: The chairman and vice-chairman wear yellow and red ties respectively, referencing their actors' previous roles as Sebastian and Boshimar in Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger, whose respective kingdoms' colors were yellow and red.
  • Heel–Face Turn: The two of them have a change of heart thanks to Taiya and Bundorio reminding them how great soccer can be and offering them to join their own soccer game.
  • Humans Are Bastards: They agree to sell their organization - and by extention, Earth's soccer - to Spindo for profit, and cheer on the Hashiriyans during their soccer match against the Boonboomgers, though they change their ways at the end of the episode thanks to Taiya.
  • Les Collaborateurs: Though rather than helping Spindo advance his invasion of Earth, they just let him take control over its soccer industry.
  • Laughably Evil: Despite their greedy personality, they have many comedic moments through #41.

Civilians

    Senji Naito

Portrayed by: Jun Saito

Raita Naito's nephew and Taiya's friend.

  • Chekhov's Gunman: Senji initially appears only in #22, where Taiya gives him a delivery from his uncle. He later returns in #47 when he tries to convince him that the Boonboomgers are not evil.
  • Shout-Out: With a bit of twisting, his name can be read as "Naito Nisen"/内藤 二千, which translates to "Knight 2000", the name of the car that appears in the series his uncle is named after.

    Kakeru Osada

Portrayed by: Yukihiro Ino
Young Kakeru portrayed by: Otoya Imaizumi

Sakito's Childhood Friend.

  • Morality Pet: Seeing him and his family held hostage by the Hashiriyans is what makes Sakito cut ties with them and join the Boonboomgers. At first it appears that Kakeru is the only person Sakito cares about, though he becomes more open as the show progresses.

    Norio Orino

Portrayed by: Yukinori Okada

Mira's ex-boyfriend.

  • Face–Heel Turn: He briefly joins the Hashiriyans in #20 so he could get Mira back, but this doesn't last long as Taiya and Sakito help him realize his toxic feelings towards her.
  • Fun with Palindromes: Syllable-wise, his name reads the same forwards and backwards.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: He ultimately relents after seeing that Mira is able to stand on her own two feet and how happy she is being a Boonboomger, and leaves for New York by himself.
  • Jerkass Realization: Taiya helps him come to terms with the fact that his feelings for Mira turning toxic led to him becoming an Unwitting Pawn for the Hashiriyans.
  • The Kid with the Remote Control: Cannonborg exploits his yearning towards Mira by handing him a steering wheel that can control Owan Grumer to do his bidding.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: His request to Taiya to deliver Mira to him in #1 leads to her becoming a Boonboomger.
  • Woman Scorned: Male variant; he does not take Mira choosing to become a Boonboomger over eloping with him well, resulting in him siding with the Hashiriyans to get back at her.
  • Yandere: Norio would resort to even teaming-up with the Hashiriyans in order to get Mira back, and it takes Taiya and Sakito to convince him to let her be.

    The Aori Family

A local crime family who previously kidnapped Mira.

  • Asshole Victim: It's hard to feel bad for them when Gong Grumer targets them in #29 since they tried to force Mira into a marriage and later tried to sell Earth to Cannonborg.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Initially appear in #1 where they force Mira into an Arranged Marriage, later reappear in #29 where it's revealed there's more to them than being a mere crime family.

Unten Aori

Portrayed by: Hiroyuki Muraoka

The Don of the Aori Family.

  • Deal with the Devil: #29 reveals that he made a deal with Cannonborg, who promised that the Aori Family will get to rule the Earth after the Hashiriyans conquer it and gave him an Ignition Key as a token of their deal. As Cannonborg died before that could happen, it's unknown if they would've kept their promise or double-crossed the Aori Family had the Hashiriyans won.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He really cares for his son, Bonbon.
  • The Quisling: He would have become this had the Hashiriyans taken over Earth under Cannonborg's command.

Bonbon Aori

Portrayed by: Koumei Sugimori

The only son and heir to the Aoris.

  • Manchild: #29 shows him to be a young man fawning over Byun-D like a child, and generally acts like he's still a much younger boy clinging to his father's proverbial leg.
  • Spoiled Brat: Clearly has been spoiled rotten by his father, throwing a tantrum when his marriage to Mira is thwarted.

    Aki Nogi

Portrayed by: Hinami Mori

Mira's friend and co-worker at Toys R' Us.

  • Actor Allusion: Mira's flashback in #36 of Aki's dance group shows her performing Twokaizer's transformation dance, a reference to her past role as his sister, Flint.
  • Bait-and-Switch: #36's previews made it look like Aki was going to transform into another Bun Pink alongside Mira, down to her wearing pink as she wields the Boonboom Changer. As it turns out, the second Bun Pink was a clone of Mira created by using Patrol Car 2 Customize, while Aki fails to even transform due to not knowing how to use the Boonboom Changer, and even when Mira teaches her how and offers her the chance, she refuses thanks to Character Development.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Stole Mira's Boonboom Changer because she was jealous of the attention she was getting.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: Despite filching Mira's Boonboom Changer, she doesn't know how to properly use it to transform (done by spinning the wheel at the bottom after pressing the top pedal thrice) and nearly gets turned into roasted chicken by the Kurumaju of the Week.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Aki feels that since her career as a dance troupe member isn't heading anywhere as she moves into an office job, she could break out of it by becoming a hero, leading her to steal Mira's Boonboom Changer and attempt to fight the Hashiriyans. She soon realizes she's in over her head.
  • Shout-Out: Her name is a light rearranging of Aki Kino from Inazuma Eleven, the anime adaptation of which Atsuhiro Tomioka also worked on.

    Itsuki Hirose and his brother

Itsuki portrayed by: Kairu Yamamoto

Itsuki's brother portrayed by: Taiki Ogomi

Itsuki is a child that becomes Jyo's apprentice in #40.

  • Chekhov's Gunman: Itsuki appears as a guest character in #40, with his brother appearing in the ending of said episode. Both of them return in #47 with a group of children to cheer up on Jyo, and even block a police officer from going to arrest him.
  • My Greatest Failure: Itsuki's belief that heroes shouldn't make mistakes stems from an incident in which his brother got injured while he wasn't watching him. Jyo helps Itsuki learn that there's not shame in making mistakes, while the brother appears to have healed by the end of the episode.
  • No Name Given: The name of Itsuki's younger brother is never mentioned.

The Go-ongers and their associates

For tropes associated with the Go-ongers and the individual members, see here.
    Sosuke Esumi/Go-On Red

Portrayed by: Yasuhisa Furuhara (live), Hirofumi Fukuzawa (suit)

A confident and unyielding race car driver who constantly believes in miracles. He became Go-On Red when the race track is attacked by a platoon of Ugatz, crossing paths with Saki and Renn before he was chosen by Bomper and Engine Speedor for his valor.

  • Accidental Misnaming: Continuously refers to BunRed as "BoonboomRed", in spite of being corrected.
  • Anime Hair: Sosuke retains his iconic anime-style pointy hairdo from the original Go-Onger series, but this time dyed in a deep crimson.
  • Determinator: Even having his feet being weighed down doesn't stop this man from going at mach speed.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: His partnership with Speedor and the other Engines gave Taiya the idea to program an AI system into Boonboom Safari and Boonboom Marine (And later Boonboom Leon) in order to achieve a similar feeling of companionship with those Boonboom Cars.

    Engine Speedor

Voiced by: Daisuke Namikawa

Go-on Red's partner.

  • The Bus Came Back: Returns in #38 to combine with Byunbyum Mach Robo.

The ToQgers and their associates

For tropes associated with the ToQgers and the individual members, see here.

    Right Suzuki/ToQ 1gou

Portrayed by: Jun Shison (live), Kōsuke Asai (suit)

The leader of the ToQgers, he is an individual with a high-level of imagination.

  • Older and Wiser: Downplayed. While he retains his spirited attitude and strong imagination, he's more collected and mature now that he's a young adult rather than an artificially-aged up child.

    Akira Nijino/ToQ 6gou

Portrayed by: Shin Nagahama

The Sixth Ranger of the ToQgers. Formerly a Shadow Line member named Zaram, Akira defected from it after witnessing a rainbow and became ToQ 6gou to protect them.

  • Commonality Connection: He interacts the most with Genba and Sakito. Like Genba, Akira is the non-human Orange Ranger of his team with a Dark and Troubled Past and a vendetta against a member of the villainous faction, while like Sakito Akira is the Sixth Ranger of the team who's grateful to the others for taking him in.

    Ticket

Voiced by: Kappei Yamaguchi

A monkey puppet controlled by the Rainbow Line's Conductor.

  • Me's a Crowd: In his only appearance in the crossover episode with ToQger, Ticket is summoned from the Renketsu Bazooka's bullet and clones himself to free the Boonboomgers and the other victims of Senro Grumer's forced conga line.

The Gokaigers and their associates

For tropes associated with the Gokaigers and the individual members, see here.

    Joe Gibken/GokaiBlue

Portrayed by: Yuki Yamada (live), Masashi Takada (suit)

The Blue Ranger of the Gokaigers, who comes to assist the Boonboomgers in their hour of need and deliver a necklace from Nicola Keydoor.

  • Commonality Connection:
    • With him also being a stoic lancer to his own Red like Ishiro is, the moment he enters the fray as Gokai Blue he forms an instant synergy with Taiya.
Taiya: Feels like we met somewhere before.
      Joe: ...Nope. Definitely not.
    • When Taiya asks Joe why he decided to help the Boonboomgers out, Joe replies that it's because his leader (Captain Marvelous) would have been impressed by them choosing to do things their way, even if they go against the world.
  • Deus Exit Machina: As a replacement Bun Blue and one of the strongest Blues by far, he leaves the show just as quickly as he appears and the timing couldn't be any worse.
  • Dual Wielding: He borrows Bun Black's and Bun Orange's Boonboom Change Axes in Rod Mode to channel his dual-sword style, which ironically contrasts Ishiro's fighting style as The Gunslinger.
  • Dynamic Entry: Joins the Boonboomgers' fight against Takarabako Grumer by shooting the Kurumaju out of nowhere.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: He temporarily transforms into Bun Blue in Ishiro's place to assist the Boonboomgers in defeating Takarabako Grumer.

The princess of the planet Trickle, who is on the lam after her kingdom was conquered by the Hashiriyans.

  • Ascended Extra: While she initially appears as the usual summer-movie-exclusive Damsel in Distress of Boonboomger's summer movie, she plays a big role in the series' endgame, where she helps them find a way to revive Bundorio through her pendant. She later appears in Boonboomger vs. King-Ohger, having retaken her planet and becoming its queen.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Her pendant, which she delivers to the Boonboomgers with the help of Joe Gibken. When Mira sheds a tear on it, she finds out that it contains a holographic message for the Boonboomgers that tells them of the item that can revive Bundorio.
  • Foil: Both she and Genba are alien royalty whose home planets were conquered by the Hashiriyans, and both have lost their wheels because of this. Whereas Nicola got directionless and didn't know what to do until Mira encouraged her to fight the Hashiriyans back, Genba did go on a quest of revenge against Disrace at the cost of his friendship with the Boonboomgers, until realizing that it's not worth sacrificing out of revenge and rejoining them.
  • Hero of Another Story: When she contacts the Boonboomgers again in the show proper, she's gathered a number of allies to help take back her home planet and is currently in the middle of a war.

  • Human Alien: She's an extraterrestrial, but looks like an ordinary human.
  • Modest Royalty: Her wardrobe consists of a simple tracksuit. She switches it to a more traditional outfit once becoming the queen of Trickle.

  • Tired of Running: When she arrived on Earth, she wasn't capable of making decisions for herself until Mira encouraged her to take her own wheel, prompting her to agree to fly back to planet Trickle and free it.
  • You Are Not Alone: Whilst her only appearance in the episode is via archive footage from Promise the Circuit in the form of a flashback, her sending the necklace to the Boonboomgers to be delivered by GokaiBlue in #43 lets the Boonboomgers know that they still have allies rooting for them when all hope seems lost.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: He disguises himself as a human and pretends to befriend Sakito and Byun-D and help them find the sword of planet Reflector, but then reveals that he's after it himself and steals it from Sakito.
