This is a list of characters appearing in the BadwaterVideos2009 series.

Main characters

    RED Scout

Click here to see the RED Scout as in "Revelation".

The main protagonist of the video series as a whole. The RED Scout is one of three characters in the series that have openly showcased their sentience, alongside the BLU Heavy and Scout.

Following the events of "Revelation", The original RED Scout is dead, with a second rising to take his place.

  • Body Horror: In "Revelation", his limbs have been chopped off while a handful of random props including a pipe and a stick of rebars are jammed into his torso (as pictured above).
  • Canon Immigrant: After the Player breaks him, the RED Scout is forcibly imported into the Melonman series as a 'new' character in "Metalhead's Final Straw".
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: After the Player finds Scout trying to construct a Toolgun in "Subjugate", he uses the Finger Poser tool to snap one of his fingers, then slices into him with a sawblade rotated at great speed with the Physgun.
  • The Blank: Has a completely emotionless face in "Metalhead's Final Straw" as a result of the Player's Cold-Blooded Torture in "Subjugate".
  • Heroic BSoD: Undergoes one after the ending of "Subjugate", to the point that he seemingly loses the ability to emote.
  • Mercy Kill: He receives this in "Revelation" by courtesy of another RED Scout.
  • Pipe Pain: Wields a length of pipe in "Metalhead's Final Straw" to knock out the Teethineer.
  • The Scream: Screams in terror and agony in "TF2 sawmill gameplay", "Subjugate" and "Metalhead's Final Straw" as a result of the Player directly harming them.
  • There Is Another: He's mercy killed by a second RED Scout, in "Revelation" using his own now fully completed toolgun. Judging on how this appears to be his last appearance, the second RED Scout will continue where the first left off.
  • Wham Shot: In "hl2 2009-08-15 18-17-36-64.avi", Immediately before witnessing the BLU Heavy desperately trying to tell him not to, Scout manages to move his right arm and hand, confirming that the ragdolls in the series are actually sentient beings that the Player is exploiting to make smoother animations in their videos.

    The Player
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/badwatervideos2009_player.png
"It is time to learn how to animate."

The operator of the BadwaterVideos2009 channel, a Garry's Mod machinima maker whose game happens to be filled with paranormal phenomena... which they use to their full advantage for his videos.

  • Bald of Evil: They use a default Dr. Kleiner player model, and they are certainly not the nicest person around.
  • Big Bad: The main antagonist of the story, as the seemingly unstoppable force who the ragdolls are unable to escape from.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Unlike the potentially-Ambiguously Evil gunslingerpro2009's Player, this Player knows full well that his characters are sentient, and this doesn't stop him in the slightest from inflicting great harm on them.
  • Dark Is Evil: He's completely framed in darkness during the events of "Subjugate".
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: They make little effort to hide their bad treatment of the sentient ragdolls, threatening and hurting them whenever they try and oppose them.
  • Kubrick Stare: Gives the viewer a mean one at the end of "Subjugate".
  • Oh, Crap!: Emulates these alot, such as when the video stops when he accidentally kills Teethineer, and he slowly backs away when the RED Scout flees to the gm_construct dark room.
  • Ominous Visual Glitch: Appears to produce these when viewed through the eyes of the other characters. This effect appears to extend to cameras placed outside the character's field of vision, as when Melonman looks towards the Player (who had just threatened him with deletion) after beating The Teethineer into submission, the glitching intensifies dramatically.
  • Sadist: Through the series, it becomes evident that the Player goes out of their way to antagonize the characters, such as threatening to delete them, or going as far as torturing them if they misbehave, as the RED Scout finds out.
  • Torture Technician: After he catches the RED Scout trying to build a Toolgun in "Subjugate", he uses the Finger Poser tool to snap one of his fingers, then eviscerates him with a circular saw spun at great speed with the Physgun.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: They seem to treat being able to walk back and forth between maps through a white void with no loading screens as completely normal. They also mention welding the ragdolls into the ground as to keep them from running away as if it's simply routine.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Punishment implies this happened, as he repeatedly spawns RED Scout ragdolls and kills them over and over, possibly as some sort of twisted venting method over what happened to the original in Revelation, or as the in-game chat may reveal, over the fact his "actors" get more and more rebellious overtime.
  • Villain Protagonist: The most consistent reoccuring character and a horrific Sadist who tortures AI they clearly realize are sentient.

Melonman series

    Melonman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bwv2009_melonman.png
"Oh, I'm gonna beat you so hard you'll have a twitch!"

The hero of the player's ongoing Machinima series. Melonman takes the form of a RED Demoman, but with a melon for a head with one large eye.

  • Big Good: Is portrayed this way in the series, continuously saving the RED Engineer from the Teethineer and Dr. Metalhead's schemes.
  • Cyclops: He only has one cartoony eye.
  • Mind over Matter: His main attack is to summon an explosive melon from nowhere, which he then launches towards his foes with his psychic powers.
  • Non-Human Head: Has a watermelon for a head with one large eye.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: His melons explode on impact, causing great damage. This is used against him during his first fight with the Teethineer, as he can't use the ability due to the presence of explosive barrels nearby.
  • Wham Shot: In "Melonman VS The Teethineer", he can be seen visibly hesitating after putting Teethineer on the ground, before the player ominously aims their Toolgun at him, forcing him to begin punching Teethineer into a bloody pulp.

    RED Engineer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/badwater_redengineer_3.png
"That there was a fine piece of work!"
Meloman's best friend, the RED Engineer is usually hanging out with him, often leading him to be present when Melonman is fighting evildoers.
  • Distressed Dude: He often takes the role of victim, be it from the BLU Team or from the Teethineer, so that Melonman can come to his rescue.
  • The Generic Guy: Unlike the TF2 Freaks who make up the rest of the series' cast, this guy is just an ordinary Engineer.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Towards the end of "How I Make GMOD Machinimas Tutorial", the RED Engineer attempts to make a run for GM_Construct's Dark Room after the Player constructs a walking rig and welds him to it. It is revealed by footage from "Sanctuary" that he chose to make this decision after witnessing RED Scout escape to the room behind the Player's back. Unlike Scout, the Engineer isn't so lucky, and is quickly dragged back into line with the Physgun.

    Dr. Metalhead
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/badwatervideos2009_metalhead.png
"I am prepared to do whatever it takes!"
A Medic with a bomb for a head and a metal claw for a hand who serves as the main villain of the player's Machinima series. He attempts to thwart Melonman from his evil lair.
  • Big Bad: Of the Melonman series, as Melonman's arch-enemy.
  • Evil Genius: He's described as an evil scientist who plans the downfall of Melonman, and demonstrates this with his evil lair and his army of flying drones.
  • Non-Human Head: He has a Hunter-Chopper bomb for a head.
  • Power Pincers: He has a metallic pincer-like claw in the place of his right hand.
  • You Have Failed Me: He is angered by the Teethineer's repeated failures at defeating Melonman, though he never kills him for it. By the end of "Metalhead's Final Straw", he decides to take matters into his own hands.

    The Teethineer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/badwatervideos2009_teethineer.png
"Y'all about to have a real bad day!"
A major antagonist in the Player's videos, the Teethineer is a TF2 Freak under the heel of Dr. Metalhead with a rather fitting name, lacking any facial features other than a very large mouth with prominent teeth.
  • Ambiguous Situation: In "The Teethineer Interrupts Tea Time", was the Teethineer accidentally killed by the Player, forcing him to hastily write in a different ending where he was 'teleported' back to Metalhead?
  • Bizarre Alien Senses: As he has no eyes, he instead senses things through echolocation, which he uses by clicking his teeth together.
  • Butt-Monkey: Is portrayed this way in the series, as each of his plans are constantly foiled, and he often suffers what are probably intended by the Player to be Amusing Injuries.
  • The Dragon: To Dr. Metalhead.
  • Expy: Of Vagineer and other famous TF2 Freaks from the late-2000s and early-2010s.
  • Electronic Speech Impediment: Each of his lines sound very warbled, as if the pitch of his voice is constantly wavering up and down.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Teethineer has no qualms about drinking boiling water from a kettle, then eating the kettle itself with a single bite in "Melonman VS The Teethineer".
  • Hidden Depths: If Melonman's hesitation in "Melonman VS The Teethineer" is anything to go by, it's probable that the two are actually friends, and are being forced by the Player to brutally assault each other.
  • The Hyena: Most of his dialogue consists of laughing.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Despite realistically reacting (and possibly dying) to his injuries in "Melonman VS The Teethineer" and "The Teethineer Interrupts Tea Time", after he gets struck over the head by RED Scout in "Metalhead's Final Straw", he's simply knocked out for a few hours, and wakes up with a rather nonchalant "Darn."
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor: While the Teethineer is a baddie, in "Revelation" he and Melonman rescue the RED Scout from deletion.
  • Nightmare Face: Fitting his name, the Teethineer has no visible facial features except for his mouth and razor-sharp teeth.
  • Wham Line: Of a sort; whenever the Teethineer is critically injured, all the distortion in his voice suddenly disappears, reminding the audience that like everyone else, he is but another ragdoll mutilated by the Player.

    Pyder
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/badwatervideos2009_pyder.png
*Muffled laughter*
A combination of a RED and BLU Pyro molded together into a vaguely-arachnoid shape, seen exclusively in "Pyder On The Move".
  • Body of Bodies: Pyder is composed of two Pyros merged together at the waist, with the lower of the two serving as the creature's legs. Only the upper Pyro appears to be conscious.
  • Projectile Webbing: Pyder can spit threads of silk from his gasmask's filter, which proves quite effective at ensnaring the Teethineer.
  • Outside-Context Problem: From the way he's portrayed, it's unclear whether Pyder is one of Dr. Metalhead's creations, though he is described as having no allegiance to him.

    BLU Scout
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/badwater_bluscout.png
"Eat my dust!"
A minor character in the Player's series, who appears exclusively in "Melonman to the Rescue".
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After being wounded by Melonman's projectile melon, BLU Scout tries to crawl away, but is immediately punished for his sentience by the Player, who runs towards him to delete him with the Toolgun.

Others

    BLU Heavy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/badwater_bluheavy.png
"Ooh, it is sad day!"
RED Scout's friend, who needed help to fix his television in "The Broken TV".
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: He's killed off after the first episode of the Player's series, but his role is crucial in revealing a pivotal aspect of the wider series' lore.
  • Wham Shot: In "hl2 2009-08-15 18-17-36-64.avi", Scout turns to look at Heavy, whose expression is all of a sudden sullen and dejected. Heavy has just enough time to shake his head and scream in terror before the Player deletes him with their Toolgun.
