SEEKER

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/polish_20221026_054105914_8.jpg
"We have reaped and we have sown."

"SEEKER's resources are invaluable and my division... We save people from [dying Seeds]. Yes, we conscript them, but with time perhaps we can change that…"
Laen Adaire

A company that deals in the monitoring and maintenance of Seeds (and occasionally) sub-realms. Run and staffed by Arkn (as well as half-Arkn and humans), they are in charge of extracting Seeds that are nearing apocalypse stage, managing Outlier Seeds to make sure they have the "correct" lifespan, and sending non-humans to the Ythen for punishment.

  • Corrupt Corporate Executives: So far, they seem to have Averted this...mostly. While Kitano and Ma'eve are responsible for running SEEKER and are indirectly responsible for the many massive losses of life that the company causes, they do not seem to be completely corrupt. However, Ma'eve does happen to be amoral concerning all the deaths caused by the company itself, and some of the other Moderators (such as Captain Ca'carcus) play this trope straight.
  • Evil, Inc.: Downplayed; while they aren't pure evil, they manufacture weapons (among other things), frequently wipe out planets on command (and sub-realms on commission), and many of their high-ranking officials seem fairly amoral.
  • Intrigued by Humanity: SEEKER, despite having to wipe out human beings on an almost daily basis, truly does seem to be interested in Humanity as a whole and the talents they display. It's part of the reason why the Looker Division was founded: SEEKER wished to find humans with unique talents that could serve them (via the Faller Program).
  • Klingons Love Shakespeare: The Looker division engages in this a bit, if their behavior in the Arkn one-shot is anything to go by. Ma'eve mentions that they enjoy consuming human media, especially binging on human shows; she even walked on them watching Game of Thrones.
  • Law Enforcement, Inc.: They've been appointed by the Ythen to act as the self-contained "police force" of the Seeds, and have seemingly limitless resources.
  • Lawful Evil: Lawful Evil: Of the Type 1 variety. Under order from the Ythen, they routinely "cull" Outlier Seeds that refuse to die; a necessary service, to be sure, but one which involves killing almost every living being on a planet – sparing only the "useful" individuals (whom they employ for their own purposes).
  • MegaCorp: Though to a lesser degree than U.M.E.E.C., they sell high-tech weapons and other devices to the Arkn (developed by the Turncoder Division), and it's implied that Turncoder is still hard at work creating new variants of technology for the civilian market. They also employ refugees from razed Outlier Seeds, and use their vast resources to help them get back on their feet...though only if said refugees agree to work for the company.
  • Press-Ganged: Humans from soon-to-be- culled Seeds who are deemed "valuable" (i.e. have skills that may be of use to the company) are "Raptured"; in other words, they're removed from the Seed and forced into the employ of SEEKER.
  • Private Military Contractors: They utilize their own private armies to help exterminate Seeds, as well as training refugees, exploring sub-realms, and various other tasks.
  • Recruitment by Rescue: A dark version of this: SEEKER "Raptures" humans and half-bloods from Seeds that are about to be culled; in exchange, they're expected to join the Faller Program and be trained for job. Those who refuse are abandoned on the nearest SEED.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: They seem to have this going on with U.M.E.E.C. The two groups will collaborate when we it comes to re-homing refugees (namely, half-Dekn from exterminated realms), but otherwise they can barely stand each other. Kind of understandable, given that U.M.E.E.C. is run in collaboration with the Dekn.
  • War for Fun and Profit: In addition to maintaining and policing the Seeds, SEEKER also manufactures weapons.

Directors

    Zazriel Devereaux

Zazriel Devereaux

A disillusioned former Arkn Thani who cut a deal with the Ythen to found SEEKER.

     High Administrator Kitano Ashvall

Kitano Ashvall

Appears in: One-shots on Penthepoet's blog

The current High Administrator of SEEKER. He is the brother of the famous Miran’khai boss Ahh’kuu Ya'bari'zume.

  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: He has shades of this. His mandates are responsible for the deaths of countless beings, and he's willing to make a deal with anyone, so long as it benefits SEEKER. To say nothing of his familial ties to the Miran’khai.

    High Moderator Ma'eve Vallindri

Ma'eve Vallindri

Appears in: Archives of the Scholar (mentioned), Ma'eve (one-shot), misc. one-shots on Penthepoet's blog

"If I have to deal with any more of this, I'm going to need a fucking drink."

The High Moderator of SEEKER under Kitano Ashvall. She supervises all the divisions of SEEKER in Kitano's absence and partially runs the Guardian division as well.

  • Action Girl: We have yet to actually see her in action, but she's heavily implied to be this. You don't get to be the head of an interdimensional megacorp by sitting in an office.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Her first appearance firmly paints her as someone that is not afraid to drop a bit of sarcasm in to accentuate the people she's talking about.
"I would also like to note that Ca'carcus spends too much time purchasing various entertainments for himself and his crew when he could be... what a revelation this might be to him... actually exploring other subrealms and performing the task we fucking paid him to do instead of partaking in various desires of the flesh."
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Name drops this quote at the end of the SEEKER oneshot.
  • Lady of War: Tends to come off as this. She is withdrawn, but still no stranger to the battlefield, and is a tactical woman.
  • Number Two: Acts as Kitano's second-in-command, basically functioning as Vice President of the company.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: She swears a bit in the audio log meant to be sent to her boss. However, it's implied that she's rather familiar with Kitano, and thus feels more comfortable lapsing into inappropriate speech around him.
  • Not So Stoic: Throughout the SEEKER oneshot, her narration and tone paint her as trying to appear cold and detatched to her employees. In private, her mask slips and she often lapses into a more laid-back (yet still slightly formal) tone around Kitano. While she may also criticize the other employees of SEEKER heavily, she also shows appreciation of a few of them in private including complimenting For'ende's work on EXONA and praising Adrian Windward (one of the few humans at SEEKER) as "a credit to his race."

Looker Division

     Laen Adaire
For tropes about him, see here.

Other SEEKER Employees

    Thomas Crawford

Thomas "Novaturient" Crawford

Appears in: //AgentNovaturient

"I was working as an illustrator before all of this, and before that I was fighting for something more [along the] lines of a miracle. Hope. A light maybe? That's what she brought me, two little hopes of light to stay alive for. To fight for."

A SEEKER field agent working in an unknown division.

U.M.E.E.C.

    In General
Universal Mortal Exploration Extraction and Control is a Dekn-Human run company. It is a monopoly that is located in the Dekn territories, with departments and branches placed amongst the multiple Seeds (and various outposts stationed in the Klasym).
  • MegaCorp: U.M.E.E.C. is this (in addition to being a space exploration company).
  • Settling the Frontier: One of their major objectives is exploration. They have laid claim to numerous sub-realms — both within the Seeds and without.

Administration

    Abraham Emmerich

Abraham Emmerich

''“[D]on’t let word about this door get further than the personnel here. I’d prefer to not have SEEKER coming after us again, especially after the Zimmerman Blunder.”

The current Administrator of the U.M.E.E.C.

     Eli van Gardio

Eli van Gardio

Appears in: May 15th, 2022 - Courn Seed (UMEEC Base)

Director of the Polado Research Center on Courn Seed.

Other U.M.E.E.C. Employees

     Moirah Averil
For tropes related to her, see her folder under Moirah Averil's Resistance Group.

Criminal Enterprises

Miran’khai

    In General
An Arkn criminal empire comparable to the Yakuza. They're heavily connected to SEEKER.
  • The Syndicate: Like the Sanguinal'estiere, they're established in both the Empyrium and the Seeds, and have a stronghold in both the Arkn government and SEEKER.
  • Tattooed Crook: Several of their higher-ups are tattooed with formal designs known to the Arkn as “Senshi’chir” (or “Warrior’s Skin”). These tattoos are often very intricate, including a Miran’khai’s family sigil or various other symbols of power from the Arkn culture. Religious symbols (such as Ele’pagi’s winged sword) are common.
  • Yakuza: They were inspired by the human Yakuza, and organize themselves in the same manner.

Raverne-tou Branch

    Kester'aishi Saburo Raverne

Saburo Raverne

Appears In: Staff of the Scholar (mentioned), The Council of Zachriel (mentioned)

The former head of the Raverne-tou branch of the Miran’khai. He is the father of Petrel.

    Kester'aishi Petrel Raverne

Petrel Raverne

Appears In: ''Archives of the Scholar, The Council chat, misc. Discord roleplays

"Petrel Raverne. He/him, 18. Arknborn/Arkn Hybrid, don’t you fucking dare refer to me as a Hurn or I’m going to punch you in the shin."

The half-Arkn son of Saburo, who occasionally helps moderate Franz Faust's blog. He is currently the head of the Raverne-tou Miran'khai clan.

  • Amateur Sleuth: He is presently helping 4-boy investigate the cult of Pascal D’Aramitz.
  • Berserk Button: Don't ever call him a "Hurn", or imply that he's a thug or a common criminal; either one is a surefire way to catch his fists.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: Seven of his Miran'khai associates were sold to the Dekn as slaves and became test subjects for the December Project. After he discovered what the Project had done, he lost his faith in not only the Hethe, but innate decency and common sense.
"That experiment is proof that the Hethe don’t give a shit about us. Because nobody, absolutely nobody, thought to dig a little deeper and find this shit out."
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: He competes in Blood Flags for money to take care of his mother, who is bedridden from an unspecified illness.
  • Gayngster: The head of the Raverne-tou clan, and currently engaged to Astor Clemens.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: He's half-human, half-Arkn.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Delivers one to Zachriel, after he confesses to killing Astor Clemens's father.
"Jesus fucking christ, and you WONDER why you have a bad reputation on this server when you do shit like this almost constantly. You ruined Astor's life, you fucked over Bobbie, you side with L.R. constantly...”
    • And another one to Andras As'phyxiar:
"Who gives a shit what lives you’ve saved if you’ve destroyed ten thousand more? Your ends don’t justify your means. You’ve broken yourself apart for nothing. The world would be better off if you faced justice, whether that be kneecapping you, destroying this lab…"
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: He curses more than any other character in Legacy (except perhaps for Mae'eve Vallindri).
  • Troll: He and For'ende hijack the Society of the Purple Rose's blog and post as a timid, dimwitted recruit named "Mod Chrysanthemum" (before switching to memes mocking Marchosias).

    Connaught Aberdeen

Connaught Aberdeen

Appears in: Archives of the Scholar (mentioned)

"He's basically like- my mentor, I guess you could say? His name's Connaught Aberdeen. He's been working in the Miran'khai for a hot minute and I know I can trust him."

Petrel's personal advisor in the Miran'khai after taking the reins.

Sanguinal'estiere

    In General
The Sanguinal'estiere (or "Sanguineaux'estiere" in the Dekn dialect) is a Dekn crime syndicate comparable to the Sicilian Mafia.
  • "Blackmail" Is Such an Ugly Word: Much like the Mafia that inspired them, they exploit Dekn business owners by offering them "protection" from both the Arkn and native thieves...in exchange for a cut of both their profits and their wares.
  • Generic Ethnic Crime Gang: They were founded by, and are composed primarily of, Dekn.
  • The Mafia: It fashioned itself after the Sicilian Mafia, and operates in largely the same manner.
  • Meaningful Name: The Persophelum crime family is named after the Dekn guild that Alphos'eli's father used to belong to in the old universe.

Persophelums

    Elbaset Persophelus

Alphos'eli Persophelus, né Alphos'eli Redgrave

Appears In: Capisci? (one-shot), Tales From the Dekn Court

The powerful head of the Persophelus crime family. The son of Jacques Redgrave, he controls the black market for Rethryc crystals (and established Blood Flags just for the purpose of laundering them).

  • Badass in a Nice Suit: He's a powerful crime boss who's always in a sharp suit.
  • The Chessmaster: Naturally. It's a trait he acquired from his father.
  • Moral Sociopathy: Seemingly operates according to this. He started with the goal of protecting his people from being exploited by the Arkn, and currently aims to provide the Dekn with Rethryc crystals (to which they wouldn't otherwise have access). However, he gives little thought to the many individuals he's had to extort, exploit, torture, or murder along the way — including other Dekn.
  • The Patriarch: He acts as such to the Persophelums. His (unofficial) title, "Elbaset", even means "father".
  • Self-Made Man: Surprisingly, despite being born to the imperial family, he didn't rely on his wealth or privilege to create the Persophelums; instead, he relied on his own natural talents, intellect, and wits.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: The wiki mentions that he's a sharp dresser, and very particular about his appearance. When the family was first founded, he would sometimes dress in his flashiest clothes and stand outside of a business he was extorting, just to remind them of who was "in charge".

The Society of the Purple Rose

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_l_96337340540644_4.jpg
"I guess you could say that we're a faction of the Dekn Court, but that wouldn't be accurate. There are commoners as well as courtiers in our ranks. Anyway, we're working for... political and religious reform, within the Elevrium."
High Companion Hybrid Tea to Laurien Adaire

A religious cult devoted to the veneration, and service of, Marchosias Aversen. The group was founded by Marchosias himself, both to stroke his own ego and to provide a laboratory for his social experiments.

  • Blind Obedience: Members are conditioned into this by Marchosias (as is standard practice for the Society of the Purple Rose).
  • Character Blog: Various members of the group run the Society's official blog (written run by IV Sparrow and Penthepoet).
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Lower-ranking members of the group wear white robes, while the higher-ranking members wear purple robes and clothing.
  • Cult of Personality: Is one for Marchosias in the most literal sense, made up of those whose obsessive infatuation with him has slipped into religious devotion.
  • Floral Theme Naming: When interacting with others on the group's blog, members use names taken from various breeds of roses (Hybrid-Tea, Hildesheim, etc).
  • Mind Rape: All of the members suffer from this. The final round (which fully erases their former identity) is often the last step of their initiation.
  • Not Used to Freedom: What usually happens when a member escapes.
  • Odd Name Out: Parodied with "Mod Chrysanthemum" (who is actually just Petrel and 4-boy trolling the mods).
  • Property of Love: Literally: the core doctrine of the Society is that all members therein belong to Marchosias; he controls every aspect of their daily lives: where they go, what they eat, and even what they wear.
  • Religion of Evil: They were created solely so that Marchosias can enjoy being worshiped by those he's mind raped. Members are expected to please their "God Emperor" in all ways; those who fail to do so are sometimes sacrificed (i.e. murdered). Oh, and they hold an annual gala to recruit new members and raise money, when they're already absurdly wealthy.
  • Secret Circle of Secrets: Very much resembles one of these (despite its existence being fairly common knowledge in the Elevrium), with its robed disciples and oddly sexual sacrificial rituals.
  • Stepford Smiler: A typical side effect Getting Smilies Painted on Your Soul during "initiation". Members are aware of their underlying misery, but are typically unable to focus on anything but their love and devotion for Marchosias. (Though this varies between members.)

    "God-Emperor" Euclidis

Marchosias Levitas Aversen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20220825_214757.jpg

Appears in: Archives of the Scholar (mentioned), Tales From the Dekn Court, The Siren Saga (blog), Muses and Magic (misc. one-shots), Mirrored Passeridae (mentioned), The Council chat (mentioned)
Portrayed by: RMSBorges (voice)

The Dekn Master of Beguilement and Debauchery and founder (and patron deity) of the Society of the Purple Rose. Faust kidnaps him in fulfillment of a deal with Andras.

  • A God Am I: He likes to use his powers to encourage his underlings to see him as a god, and started a religious cult to spread the message of his supposed divinity. His ultimate goal was to have the entire empire worship him — and he's well on his way to achieving it, now that he's murdered Emperor Xerinos and ascended the throne.
"I want all of the court at my feet. I want the begging for more I can give them. I want them broken. I want them hungry. I want them drunk on my presence. I want to be more than just their emperor, Andras; I want to be their God."
  • Charm Person: In his first appearance in Archives of the Scholar, this is shown as his defining trait. He can use his powers to essentially talk a person into doing nearly anything.
  • The Charmer: Definitely shown to be this throughout his appearances.
  • Compelling Voice: His Beguilement power enables him to bend the will of another with just a few words.
  • Distressed Dude: Undergoes this multiple times, being kidnapped by Faust and held captive by the Scarred Marauders (even requiring Shanna to come to his rescue at one point).
  • Egomaniac Hunter: Comes from a long line of big game hunters, and has been known to vastly enjoy the thrill of the chase himself.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Barbatos, his older brother. Marchosias looked up to him as a younger child, and still held that respect as he grew older. His late former mentor at the College of Cailedagh'salle also qualifies as this for him.
  • Evil Mentor: Is this to his "acolyte" Shanna Averil.
  • Freudian Excuse: The death of his beloved brother Barbatos (which Belial was indirectly responsible for causing) drove him to frame Belial for the attempted assassination of the Dekn Emperor. (That Marchosias was unable to satisfactorily bend Belial to his will is also hinted to be a major factor.)
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: His eyes glow with a purple light when he utilizes his Beguilement power.
  • God-Emperor: He is revered as one by the Society of the Purple Rose — and, later, after he ascends the throne, by (almost) the entire Dekn Empire.
  • Purple Is Powerful: He utilizes the color purple as a sign of his power — both literal (his eyes glow purple when he uses his beguilement ability) and figurative (as a representation of his self-proclaimed divinity and emperorship).
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: As mentioned in The Dekn Court and The Siren's Saga, he prides himself on being very well-dressed, clothing himself only in the most expensive, well-cut suits.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: "Our God is not, as the attacker so claims, a furry. Apparently, a formal title like the Winged Wolf has been misconstrued to hell and back. He is not involved in this human community, nor does he desire to have a.. fursona."
  • Voice of the Legion: His Beguilement ability manifests as this, when he's actively (as opposed to passively) using it. His voice is often described as slipping into a resonant baritone when his power is being actively used. In text, this is represented by bold italics.
  • Wicked Cultured: He's a nobleman, and is sophisticated and well-educated. He's also a depraved megalomaniac, who thinks nothing of abusing and exploiting others.

Inner Circle

     High Priest Hildesheim Rose

Malistrade "Hildesheim Rose" Imsarrah

Appears in: Malistrade (one-shot), Marchosias (one-shot), Society of the Purple Rose (blog), Tales From the Dekn Court

"I am His Highest Priest, held within His heart."

Marchosias' Consort within the Dekn Court and the High Priest of the Purple Rose. He also acts as a moderator on the group's official blog.

  • Devoted to You: Has a somewhat different relationship with Marchosias than the others, having been a Consort long before he became a High Priest, so his proclamations of loyalty tend to be a bit less abstract and more personal than the others'.
  • The Leader: Is this in Marchosias' absence. That is, until the withdrawal kicks in...
  • Like a Son to Me: He sees himself as a father figure to Timothée.
  • Seer: His main psychic ability is future sight. He primarily uses it foresee what will happen to Marchosias (often at his request).
  • You Never Did That for Me: Most of the envy he exhibits towards Shanna Averil is caused by his belief that Marchosias has elevated Shanna to a position above his own, and that she is being granted special privileges because of it.

    High Companion Hybrid-Tea

Penperin "Hybrid-Tea" Ilsenthe

Appears in: The Siren Saga (blog), Society of the Purple Rose (blog)

The High Companion of Marchosias within the Society of the Purple Rose. She also acts as a moderator on the group's official blog.

  • Bathe Her and Bring Her to Me: When she was initially kidnapped by the church, they rubbed her skin with oils and perfumes, dressed her in fine silks, and applied makeup to her face before she was handed over to Marchosias as a "carnal sacrifice".
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Her entire personality, after Marchosias gets ahold of her. Especially after Shanna is introduced to the group. It becomes so severe that she needs to be taken for "re-education".
  • Genki Girl: Extremely. Her overuse of exclamation points and kaomoji on the Purple Rose blog make her seem so cheerful as to be off-putting to anyone who stumbles upon her posts.
  • Go-Go Enslavement: Marchosias makes her wear skimpy, revealing clothing at all times. Even her uniform "robe" is cut to be revealing.
  • Happiness in Mind Control: Appears to be this trope on any occasion when people from her former life attempt to contact her.
  • Love Martyr: Her role as "High Companion" is essentially this.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Every description of her relationship with her "God-Emperor" comes across as this. Her treatment at his hands is horrific at best, and she speaks of it with the kind of rapturous joy that would make most hardcore kinksters blush.
  • Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant: Can turn an innocent (insofar as any Purple Rose discussion is "innocent") discussion on the Society's rite of induction into a rant about the time she was almost sacrificed— and enjoyed every second of it! ヽ(*・ω・)ノ — and everyone is fine with this.
  • "Not If They Enjoyed It" Rationalization: She claims that her kidnapping, brainwashing, and subsequent ravishing by Marchosias weren't wrong because they felt good.
"Yes, I was kidnapped from my home, I was gagged and unable to scream. They rubbed me in oils and perfumes, applied make-up eagerly to me, and draped me in the finest silks for Him to rip off. It felt good before and afterward, though, so it was ok!~ It’s fine, I promise!! ⊙△⊙"

    Herald Damask

Shanna "Damask" Perivelis Averil

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_l_293365374032618.jpg
Appears in: Shanna The Siren, The Siren Saga , Archives of the Scholar (mentioned), Muses and Magic (misc. one-shots)
Portrayed by: IV Sparrow (voice)

"You know, back when I first became Ersisbound, I attempted to see a counselor about (a highly doctored version of) what I’d been through… She was… generally, pretty incompetent…but there’s one thing she told me that stuck with me."

She said that antelopes…after escaping some type of apex predator, will sometimes fall to the ground the second they’ve gotten far enough away and start violently shaking. She told me that this used up all the stress hormones and brought the body back into homeostasis. She said that if I just kept going without taking a moment to feel everything I was feeling, it would destroy me.

Now, I’m not sure if her little fun fact is true, nor do I know enough about antelopes to dispute it, but also, that’s a whole mood for yours truly at the moment."

A Dekn singer and songwriter, she is the only Dekn (aside from Marchosias himself) with the ability to influence others with her speech. She wanted to just live her life as a reclusive artist, but ended up falling under Marchosias's thrall and being recruited into Purple Rose.

  • A Cappella: Most of her field recordings are performed without musical accompaniment.
  • Afraid of Their Own Strength: Is this after she discovers her power. Made worse by the fact that her music is the one thing that brings her joy, and now she runs the risk of hurting others by engaging in it.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Despite her ability being the same as one of the most horrifically evil members of the main cast, Shanna is a kind and well-intentioned individual for the most part.
  • Berserk Button: Don't insist that she should be grateful to Moirah. Also, do not call her ability "Beguilement" at any point after her captivity ends. Just...don't (unless you want a similar result).
  • Charm Person: Her main ability, and one that she shares with her "teacher" Marchosias Aversen (which he hijacks to his own ends).
  • Compelling Voice: She's one of only two Dekn in history to possess this power (the other being Marchosias himself). It's usually manifested through her music.
"[A]pparently, I have this weird music based psychic ability that I didn’t know I had, where I can kinda drive people to Do Things via song. and it, uh, terrifies me? a lot?
  • Empty Shell: At her lowest point during her captivity, she approaches this.
  • Love Is Like Religion: The field recording "My Religion" is this, with a side of Obsession Song. Your touch is my religion/Lay your hands on me...
  • Madness Mantra: After the "Heartbreak Failsafe" kicks in, she posts "what does it matter how my heart breaks?" (and other lyrics from Al Bowlly's "Heartaches") for a week.
  • Music Magic: What her ability is thought to be, before she becomes less scrupulous about using it (and realizes how much more she's capable of).
  • Missing Mom: Her mother gave up her life on Andras As'phyxiar's operating table to save Shanna from a degenerative genetic disorder.
  • Nervous Wreck: Is this when we first meet her, due to the lingering effects of being put under the Fear Invocation by Andras as a child. She later is cured by Marchosias during their first meeting.

    Counselor Montezuma

Ciaran "Montezuma" Savatier

Appears in: Society of the Purple Rose (blog)

A counselor and moderator on the Society's blog.

  • Psycho Psychologist: As Counselor, his duty is allegedly to provide "emotional support" to Purple Rose members in need of it. What he actually does is reinforce their conditioning and obedience to Marchosias by any means necessary.
  • Stalking is Love: His relationship with Hybrid-Tea is a lot like this.

    Messenger Royal Sunset

Lysandra "Royal Sunset" Myrrine

Appears in: Society of the Purple Rose (blog)

The Messenger of the Purple Rose. She was formerly a moderator on the Society's blog, until leaving the blog after being outed as disloyal by Hybrid-Tea. She was replaced by Falstaff.

  • Con Woman: When we first meet her, she's pretending to be able to contact the dead in order to scam grieving Dekn out of their money. She's also beginning to build up a cult of her own, isolating her frequent customers from their family and friends to make them more dependent on her services.
  • Deceptive Disciple: Is this to Marchosias, as her infatuation with him is heavily tempered by her desire to have the power and influence that he has.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Moirah Averil. She's every bit as adventurous, reckless, and ambitious... and a morally bankrupt sociopath with cult leader aspirations.
  • Madness Mantra: After her "reprogramming" in Altamir'zin, "I am nothing and he is all..."
  • Phony Psychic: Double Subverted. Before she joins the Society, she makes her living scamming the grieving, by pretending to channel their lost loved ones. However, the reason she is able to do this so convincingly is because she's a talented telepath and mind reader.

    Messenger Falstaff

Arika "Falstaff" Caelan

Appears in: Society of the Purple Rose, The Siren Saga (misc. one-shots)

Lysandra's replacement as Messenger of the Purple Rose, and the head of their child indoctrination experiment.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She is introduced as a sweet, somewhat socially awkward individual who only wants to be noticed and accepted, but she's soon revealed to have a passive-aggressive, jealous, and downright cruel side.
  • Evil Teacher: Her role as the head of Purple Rose's child indoctrination experiment has shades of this, including putting a very young child in strict isolation for the crime of daring to say hello to her moher in the one-shot Scenes from the Diary of Ollistra Andelyn.
  • Ignored Enamored Underling: Is this to Marchosias, constantly striving to no avail to get and keep his attention. In the Purple Rose blog post "He noticed me!," it's revealed that he's intentionally ignoring her because he enjoys seeing how far she'll go for him.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Somewhat Downplayed. She always seems to be very gentle and kind to the children in her care, but at the same time, has no qualms about dealing out harsh punishments that cause permanent psychological damage.

    Messenger Hybrid Perpetual
Appears in: Society of the Purple Rose (blog)

"Oh! Hi! Can't believe I finally get to post here. This is certainly exciting."

A recent addition to the inner circle and newly-appointed messenger.

Other Members

    Iskandar

Iskandar

Appears in: The Siren Saga (blog)

"Turning around, Kellan saw a man in a white silk robe, with dark skin, short braided hair, and eyes that had once been a deep, rich shade of brown."

Kellan Dehara's ex-lover, a lower-ranking member of the cult.

  • Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: While he and Kellan were dating, they went bar hopping one night; Iskandar got so drunk that at one point, he jumped up on a table and started belly-dancing to "The Sisters Wander" — which, according to Kellan, is not music that lends itself to belly-dancing.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: After Kellan was rescued from the Society and defected to Moirah Averil's resistance group, Iskandar was so distraught that he asked Marchosias to erase his memories of his time spent wirh Kellan, while leaving the memory of Kellan himself.

    Demetra

Demetra

Appears in: The Siren Saga (blog)

An eighteen-year-old girl who was previously rescued by the Resistance. She returned to Purple Rose under dubious circumstances.

  • Ambiguous Situation: It's unknown whether she returned to Purple Rose voluntarily, or was kidnapped and forced back in. Kellan (who had previously worked in the same cell as Demetra) believes it was the latter, as she left without saying good-bye. It's later confirmed that she was indeed kidnapped.
  • Break the Cutie: Upon returning to Purple Rose, she is punished for leaving the group by being locked in her colorless, grey quarters and bombarded by painful psychic messages.
  • Older Than They Look: Downplayed: she appears to be about sixteen, rather than eighteen.
  • Put on a Bus: An in-universe example: after working with the Resistance for some time, she vanished without a trace; after several months of no word from her, Kellan Dehara discovered that she was back in Purple Rose.

Anais

"I don't buy it. Not Anais…things were going well for Anais, she was seeing someone and taking classes and… fuck, why did it have to be her?"
Timothée Solal

A friend of Timothée's who helped him adjust to life outside Purple Rose. She returned to the Cathedral after her cravings for Marchosias's presence became overwhelming,

  • Downer Ending: Despite being seemingly well-adjusted to life outside the cult, to where she was dating and taking college classes, she can't handle the yearnings for Marchosias's presence, and voluntarily returns to Purple Rose. Timotheé is crestfallen. Not helping is Asara talking about her as if she were dead, and pointing out that statistically, the odds of those who return to Purple Rose ever escaping again are .03%.
  • The Ghost: She hasn't appeared in person.
  • Nice Girl: She is a kind, caring person, and was passionate about helping others, (especially Purple Rose defectors). Timotheé recalls how she personally helped set him up in an apartment.

    Ollistra

Ollistra Andelyn

Appears in: The Diary of Ollistra Andelyn (one-shot)

A young Dekn woman who was inducted into Purple Rose by her grandmother as a child.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Subverted — she hated when adults called her "Ollie", and would always correct them.
  • Apocalyptic Log: Her journal reads like one until until she's rescued.
  • Children Are Innocent: She's the most innocent member of Purple Rose introduced so far, given that she was too young to have a say in her induction or truly understand what was happening to her.

Scarred Marauders

    In General
" 'Gang' is an understatement, really. They are a massive pack, ready to pounce and rob blind anyone who dares travel through Destrus. There is talk of their war machines, how massive the tires of them are. Big enough to squish a man. The weaponry on these enormous machines they ride is almost ingenious in its simplicity- machine guns, harpoons and such."

Franz Irinith-Faust on the Scarred Marauders

An enormous group of Dekn Desert Bandits living in the wastes of Destrus.

Appears in: Tales From The Dekn Court (blog), Archives of the Scholar (mentioned), Muses and Magic (misc. one-shots)

"His long hair seemed to be a ratty black. His orange eyes watched over the collective feasters with fervor she’d never before seen. He was the biggest Dekn she’d ever seen in her life. And he held a pitch black revolver in one of his massive hands like he was born to it."

A former general and Dekn Master of Sight and War. After being framed for treason, he was banished to the Destrus wasteland, where he formed the Scarred Marauders.

  • A Father to His Men: Stated to be this pre-exile, and implied to even occasionally be like this towards the Scarred Marauders post-exile. While he can be a harsh leader, he truly cares about those under his command.
  • The Brigadier: Was this before his exile. Franz Faust says he was a kind and reasonable man, and compassionate towards his soldiers. This is demonstrated in the "Master of War" one-shot: when a certain Dekn General goes to Belial and asks to leave the army so he can raise his newborn child, Belial states that the man would be provided with a pension and he won't hold it against him. Later Subverted after Belial's exile.
  • Cold Sniper: It's been stated multiple times that Belial is able to shoot a man's head open from several miles away.
  • The Exile: Marchosias framed him for high treason, causing him to be exiled to Destrus.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Despite Belial's exile, and his harsh, occasionally abusive nature towards his Marauders, the "Master of War" one-shot reveals that Belial deeply loves his son Maigrir and hopes that Maigrir turns out better than he did.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Because normal U.M.E.E.C. weapons are useless in Destrus, Andras offered him samples of his newly-developed bioweapon to use against the Arkn. When Belial saw how effective the disease had been in testing, he was so horrified that he refused to use it and ordered the samples to be destroyed.
  • From Camouflage to Criminal: Belial ended up using his experience as Master of War to form a very, very dangerous group of bandits and murderers known as the Scarred Marauders.
  • Frontline General: Heavily implied to be this.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He is known for having a very short, and hot, temper.
  • I Have Many Names: Among them, The Lord of Iron and Rust, The King of Lead and Iron, The Badlands Emperor, and The Master Warlord.
  • Parental Abandonment: Belial left behind a son when he was exiled.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: His eyes are golden orange.

Other Organizations

Moirah Averil's Resistance Group

    In General
A loosely connected support network of Moirah Averil's friends and associates, who are devoted to bringing down the Society of the Purple Rose (and rescuing those therein).
  • Black-Tie Infiltration: As part of their plan to rescue Laurien from the Society of the Purple Rose, Moirah, Leonora, and Laen crash the Society's annual Violet Gala using assumed identities.
  • Cult Defector: Many members of the group are former Purple Rose devotees. Some were rescued, but others had enough free will that they left of their own volition.
  • Ragtag Bandof Misfits: The group is comprised of Dekn, Arkn, half bloods, SEEKER employees, U.M.E.E.C. employees, and Purple Rose refugees of all ranks and levels, ranging in age from eighteen to roughly middle-aged.
  • We Help the Helpless: One of their main objectives is rescuing the poor souls who are trapped in Purple Rose and help them re-adjust to society, free of charge.

    Moirah Averil

Moirah Serenia Averil

Appears In: The Siren Saga (blog)

Shanna Averil's aunt. She first appears as a minor character, offering advice and encouragement to others anonymously on Tumblr. Eventually, her true intentions—to find and rescue Shanna from her captors—are revealed. She is officially employed in a diplomatic role at U.M.E.E.C.; however, she uses this role as a cover for her actual work of gathering and selling information.

  • Action Girl: Although she hires assistants for some jobs, she's not above doing her own work, especially when the work in question entails taking down someone she feels deserves it.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Her response after several members of her crew learn that she had Shanna implanted with the power of suggestion as a child to make her irresistible to Marchosias.
  • Knowledge Broker: She uses her position in U.M.E.E.C. as a cover for this. Though she sells information to anyone willing to pay, she will occasionally help those in need free of charge.
  • Mama Bear: Is this to Shanna (and anyone else she comes to consider family).
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Has one of these moments after her actions cause Laurien Adaire to be indoctrinated into Purple Rose.
  • Perky Goth: Her corporate-Goth style is often at odds with her cheerful and enthusiastic personality.
  • Pragmatic Hero: Downplayed Trope. She shows a great amount of concern for her assistants and workers, but she was also willing to put Laurien Adaire at risk of falling in with the Purple Rose cult in order to have a chance at finding more information on her niece's location.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Her connections in U.M.E.E.C., SEEKER, and the black market are often leveraged to provide her with access to locations and information she'd never be able to access otherwise.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: To infiltrate the Violet Gala, she dons a royal blue and gold sari, with matching jewelry. The others are stunned (though they note that it looks ridiculously unlike her...which, of course, is the entire point).
  • Un-person: Formerly, she was part of the inner circle of Purple Rose. However, her activities with the Resistance have caused her to be branded a heretic and stricken from history.

    Timothée Solal

Timothée Solal

Appears In: The Siren Saga (blog)

The former Counselor of the Purple Rose, who refused to adopt a title.

  • Camera Fiend: Loves photography, and is quite good at it. During his time as Counselor, he is often seen taking photos of other Purple Rose members.
  • Cult Defector: Leaves the Society of the Purple Rose and becomes part of a support network of other defectors.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Appears to be this to Shanna when both of them are inside Purple Rose, as the object of his affection is too deeply brainwashed to return his feelings at this point in time. He has a bit of an easier time getting her attention when Marchosias isn't monopolizing it.
  • Love-Interest Traitor: During the mission to rescue Laurien from the Cathedral, he turns on Shanna and turns her over to Marchosias. (However, as we soon see, he was an unwitting accomplice.)
  • Only Sane Man: Can give off the impression of being this sometimes. He's certainly the one with the most hold on his pre-Purple Rose identity, and therefore the most capable of maintaining stability; when he leaves the Society, he has an easier time resuming his former life (as opposed to Shanna, who struggles).

    Leonora Burton

Leonora Tanari'eve Burton

Appears In: SEEKER of Escape, The Council chat, misc. Discord roleplays

"So, everyone, what have our glorious masters done to fuck us over for the good of the realms today?"

A half-Arkn SEEKER employee who works in the Looker division. She is one of Moirah's most trusted associates. Currently in a relationship with Laen Adaire.

  • Deadpan Snarker: She has her moments (see her quote above).
  • Expy: Of Elle Bishop.
  • Inter Species Romance: She is the result of one. She's also currently in one (of sorts) herself, dating a full-blooded Arkn.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: In order to infiltrate Marchosias's annual Violet Gala, she adopts the identity of "Aliya Friel", a ditzy society columnist — and dresses the part, in a pink, fluffy designer dress with matching jewelry. She does such a good job of blending in that she almost loses herself in the part.

Kellan "Kellamity" Dehara

Appears in: The Siren Saga (blog)

A male Purple Rose defector. His former goal was to try to rescue his ex-lover, Iskandar, from the cult.

  • Ambiguously Bi: One of his former lovers was male and another is non-binary, but Kellan's sexual orientation is never stated. He may be bisexual, pansexual, or something else entirely.
  • Hover Bike: He commandeers one on his rescue mission in Taveril'domaine.
  • Old Flame Fizzle: He tries to convince Iskandar to leave Purple Rose with him by reminding him of their pre-Purple Rose life and all the good times they shared. His words utterly fail to move Iskandar, however, as Marchosias removed his memories of Kellan to rid him of the pain of losing his lover. Kellan leaves heartbroken.
