Male Students from Archive of Despair 1

Akihiko Shinohara

Super High School Level Plumber

(write description here)

Asahi Iwakura

Super High School Level Criminologist

(write description here)

Arashi Tsuji

Super High School Level Poet
"You say that like not indulging is possible. This is kind of a self-contained dominion, we can’t exactly get all our entertainment from our imaginations and nutrients from photosynthesis. …Either way, no point in staying uninformed. I’ll trade interesting material for pride all I want."

A generally stoic and pragmatic young man, to the point of seeming emotionless (unless someone has the gall to bring up 'SHSL Homosexual', or arouses his protective tendencies). He has sold several volumes of his work, slips poetry into his speech, and evidently thinks highly of his abilities, but doesn't allow for many peeks into the notebook he's always writing in. He is one of the final group of survivors of Archive of Despair.

  • Actual Pacifist: Eisuke is now the sole exception. That was the first time he'd ever punched anyone. His thoughts on the subject have remained unchanged in that he definitely regrets it.
Arashi: Fighting is for children who don't know how to use their words.
  • Bad Liar: Again, usually concerning romantic matters, though he will deny deny deny until the cows come home.
  • Big Brother Instinct: To Koyomi. Apparently one of the only people who can actually stand her, and even allowed a rearrangement of their living spaces at her request.
  • Deadpan Snarker
  • Eating the Eye Candy: Okay, so he has an ogling problem, sue him.
  • Facepalm/Disapproving Look: After all, how are you going to realize when you're being stupid unless he highlights it every thirty seconds?
  • Gay Guy Seeks Popular Jock: IT WASN'T A LOVE POEM.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex
  • In Harm's Way: Is in the business of intervening to stop fights, even when the person likely to get beat up is asking for it (see getting knocked out on Himiko's behalf, even though he didn't actually prevent much.)
  • Luminescent Blush: Entirely serious and stoic...until you bring up romance of any kind, especially concerning Eisuke.
  • Only Sane Man: He likes to think so.
  • Preserve Your Gays: Notably, both he and Eisuke make it.
  • Rhymes on a Dime
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Who really needs all those jackets.
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: To Eisuke. It...wasn't well-received. (Fuck you, Chatzy.)
  • Team Mom: Why this. Why this.
  • The Muse: So far has written poems about Eisuke, Setsuna, his sister, Himiko, a yet-to-be-shared one about Minoru...and that's just the ones that have been mentioned, even though he spends almost all his spare time writing. Not that you'll be seeing these repeats if he can help it.
  • Tsundere
  • Verbal Tic: Sometimes accidentally phrases things as haikus. Don't mention it. Really, don't.

Eisuke Hanae

Super High School Level Traceur
"I mean, I don’t want any dyin’ to happen, of course! But if it comes down to it… well, I never shied away from no competition."

A tall, muscular, and aggressive young man. He is largely self-taught, but has travelled to France in order to take part in parkour competitions. He spent a year abroad, taking part in competitions across Europe and doing quite well in them. He also appears in films as a stunt double, when his unique skills are required. He is one of the final group of survivors of Archive of Despair.

Kakemono Otoko

Super High School Level Good Luck
"But I'm sure one day it'll all pay off! This title will prove itself right before my eyes and I'll surprise even myself!! Wouldn't that be great?!"

An energetic brunet with his eyes shielded, he's a little bit on the odd one out here. As opposed to possessing a talent noticed by Hope's Peak, he was simply invited through the annual raffle. He's loud, childish, and a little on the annoying side. He is the second murder victim, thrown down a fight of stairs by Tomoko.

  • Blatant Lies: Upon hearing the suggestion that he was planning a date with Iwakura, he lies that he isn't easy to woo. Cue the entire reason why he died.
    • To be fair, he did admit he wasn't too confident in his lie either.
Otoko: I...Iwakura-kun?! Nooooo way, dude! I ain't *that* quick to sweep away! A-At least... I don't... thiiink... so?
  • Blinding Bangs: Though you can still see his eyes. The bangs are made even more obvious with the different coloration from the rest of his hair.
  • Born Lucky: Or is he?
  • Death by Falling Over
  • Dies Wide Open
  • Embarrassing First Name: Whilst it probably would have been fine on it's own, the mere fact that people have been stating how odd his given name is has caused him to start suggesting that people just address him by his last name. Not that *that* is any better, but it's less odd than Kakemono. Also overlaps with Embarrassing Nickname.
  • Empty Piles of Clothing: Only found after the body discovery, but Otoko had left his clothes on his bed prior to his death and never quite came back to them.
  • He Had a Name: Subverted. After his death, his name was still mistaken and invoked complaints that his name should at least be said correctly. However, it was unanimously noted that he was not just another body.
  • Idiot Hair
  • If We Get Through This...: After the second motive was revealed, he had an exchange with Tachibana about what they were going to do after they all escaped such as going to eat or going to an amusement park.
  • In-Series Nickname: An extensive list, in fact.
  • I Take Offense to That Last One!: Upon meeting with Tachibana after the first body was revealed, the two have this exchange with a pause suitable for a comedic beat almost.
Tachibana: Are you implying that you know something, Kaketoko-dono?
Otoko: H-Hey..! I thought you knew my name finally—!! ...And no!! I know nothing!! I swear on it!!
  • Keet
  • Lethal Chef: He supposedly can't even toast bread correctly.
  • Love at First Sight: Towards Minami.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: Never quite suspected anything bad to happen from his planned meeting with Minami where they were to be alone. In a mutual killing game. Right after a motive had been released nonetheless.
  • Kill the Cutie: Introduced as mostly comic relief who doesn't know how to take a situation quite seriously before he was killed off early on.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Largely thanks to Kiyomitsu, barely anybody can remember his real name.
  • Manchild: While he's still technically only a teenager, he's pretty immature and whines a lot like a child. He also seems pretty incapable of taking care of himself.
  • Matter of Life and Death: Hooo boy. Not quite what he expected (and not really as if anything he was going to do was going to change it), but it certainly was not an exaggeration when he claimed his date with Minami was one.
Tsuji: I'm still trying to come up with a situation where you could adequately impress anyone by wearing my clothes. Back-up doesn't bode well for their safety either.
Narita: I don't see why you'd need to impress. Personally, I think you look fine... But I'm not one to indulge in fashion.
Otoko: Let's say... I'm on a slight gamble and maaaaybe my entire fate from here on out rests on that!
  • Messy Hair
  • No Indoor Voice: His sentences usually end in exclamation points if that's any indication. This combined with his screaming is not a good mix.
  • Ordinary High-School Student: At least in comparison to the rest of the students. He solely got in based on winning a raffle as opposed to being actually talented in anything.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: Inverted. Otoko has a pink/red/purple theme going on with him.
  • Plucky Boy
  • Pointless Band-Aid: Two even.
  • The Pollyanna
  • Screams Like a Little Girl
  • Stepford Smiler: While it had never really gotten anywhere, he had dropped hints on it in both pre-game and in the actual events. A straight Type A, though it's somewhat understandable to try and justify him as any other type.
  • Temporary Love Interest: Subverted. Minami pretended to be going on a date with him only to kill him at the end. It never really was requited.
  • Think Happy Thoughts: Frequently he would be made upset, but the moment something positive or happy was brought up he would be smiling like a fool again.
  • Too Happy to Live: Whilst Otoko had almost always been obnoxiously happy, it was especially true during the night of his untimely demise. He's going on a "date" with a girl he had become lovesick over and next thing you know, everyone finds him dead the next day.
  • Verbal Tic: Frequently says the phrase "you know" in varying places in his sentences.

Minoru Mikami

Super High School Level Film Critic
"You know who dies first in horror movies? People who trust blindly. Do you know who's next? People who distrust blindly."

A young film critic with a penchant for extravagant metaphors who is published in several major magazines and newspapers as well as on his own blog. He's snarky, cynical, and highly critical, but he tries to be fair in his criticisms and has people's best interests and personal improvement at heart. Most of the time. He is executed at the end of chapter 4 for the death of Iwakura.

Nanave Hamasaki

Super High School Level Shark Trainer

A tall, shy loner, often taken as intimidating and threatening, when he usually doesn't mean to. Although, around the people of Archive, he's usually treated as a pushover or just an awkward nerd (which he is) than intimidating, mostly because he couldn't run from interacting with people in there. Even more clumsy socially around girls, he's passionate about sharks, and will flip all of his shit and yours if you dare to talk shit about sharks. He is one of the final group of survivors of Archive of Despair.

  • Berserk Button: The movie Jaws. To a lesser impact, Free Willy. And... Really, he has quite a few of those, the most prominent being mentions of dolphins (orcas in special) and talking shit about sharks, but can also lose his cool if you talk shit of someone he's protective of (more apparent in the final trial).
  • Cradle of Loneliness: He held the plushy fishes more often than not while in his room.
  • Five Stages of Grief: Stuck in the Depression part than any of the others, pretty much.
  • Gentle Giant: He's one of the tallest people of Archive (although there's 1 taller than him and 4 of the same height, really) but he'd really rather live in peace and made friends. It's subverted when people press his buttons.
  • It's All My Fault: Too frequently. Mostly in chapter 2 and 4, even though he was not at fault. Turns into Guilt Complex
  • I Want My Mommy!: After the first time in chapter 4's terror machine- not that anyone could understood when he said that. Clever use of Hawaiian saved him from /even more/ embarrassment.
  • Mess of Woe: Near the end, he stops eating for a period of time, before being scolded into eating by Kaichou.
  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: Considered this by a lot of people in his life, due to his relation to sharks.
  • Survivor Guilt: Over a lot of people's deaths, simply by the fact they're dead in what could be his place. See "It's All My Fault".
  • Tears of Fear: During chapter 4. Mostly while alone and waiting for the daily awesome time in the machine of terror, but also after being in it.
  • Tears of Remorse: After chapter 2's execution, at some points in chapter 4 as well.
  • Tragic Keepsake: The plushie fish were given to Nanave by Tomoko.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: Often while hidden under his bed.
  • Trying Not to Cry: And fails miserably every time.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: Got kicked thanks to that. Tachibana ended up being an exception, as she pressed too many berserk buttons for him to not punch her.

Nonbinary Students from Archive of Despair 1

Bibi Abe

Super High School Level Motorcycle Racer

We party hard, sleep sound tonight, and tomorrow we’ll be able to think more clearly.

An individual of below average height, wearing sensible school clothing and a long overcoat, they seem to have very little vocal filter and are apt to insult or badger anyone who does something they deem improper. With a history in adrenaline inspired sport and a background in punching other students in the face, one might expect them to dress more appropriately to their violent nature, instead of looking like a total nerd. They are killed by one of Fuuka's traps in chapter 3.

Setsuna Mikata

Super High School Level ??? Installation Artist
"There may not be a rule, yet I count myself among those who do not need a rule to behave with virtue."

An enigma shrouded in sunglasses shrouded in exactly three question marks, Setsuna does not trifle with small talk or deceit. Despite their forbidding manner, an intensity of ideals seems to boil beneath their sangfroid, making them prone to unfiltered moral stands when the occasion calls. When at all possible, they fade into crowds and avoid offering insights too personal, making them an influence that is hard to read. They are one of the final group of survivors of Archive of Despair.

  • Actual Pacifist: Has branded Yasu and Eisuke violent factions of the revolution, to be treated as Official Persons of Danger.
  • Agree to Disagree: With Tomoko, following their discussion on consumerism, the individual, and the state. Subverted in that their respective agreements to disagree were only slightly more polite versions of 'I'm right'.
Setsuna: Rude? I'm sorry for stating the truths that have revealed themselves to be so.
Tomoko: I do not say they are in the wrong; simply that I hold my beliefs to be true and they have no right to be tromping all over them in such a barbaric manner.
  • Better Manhandle the Murder Weapon: Or a whole BODY.
  • Blatant Lies: To avoid speaking honestly about their title.
Setsuna: You've uncovered my master plan. Not only am I the owner and mastermind of this murder library, but I situated it specifically underground so that I wouldn't sparkle in the sunlight and give myself away.
  • Catchphrase: Don't bow to the bear.
  • Cool People Rebel Against Authority
  • Dark Is Not Evil: To the best of our knowledge.
  • Deadpan Snarker
  • Establishing Character Moment: Revealed Anarcho-Communist sentiments on Day 1 in the library.
    Sonya: Who's The Man?
Setsuna: The authorities that seek to bind our hands and our mouths from all forms of freedom and resistance.
  • First-Name Basis: Subverted in importance in that most people forget they have a surname. Rather like Madonna. Coincidence?
  • I Have Many Names: Vampire, Shades, Glasses, Sunglasses, Goggles, Emo, and most recently, Hollywood.
  • The Revolution Will Not Be Vilified: Nor sold, sanctified, or defiled.
  • Sarcasm Mode
Setsuna: Now that we're in a library — probably underground, probably isolated, probably situated somewhere highly illegal — where we're expected to kill one another, I think my cheer levels may be dangerously high. I can't wait to see the first corpse.
  • Scully Syndrome: Their title is the subject of this in both its IC and OOC forms.
Sonya: Why do you refuse to tell people your title? Is it something embarrassing? Are you a SHSL Otaku?
  • Sinister Shades: Perhaps a stealth Four Eyes, Zero Soul?
  • The Corpse Stops Here: Came under fire in the second trial for their involvement before the culprit was discovered to be Minami.
  • The Stoic

Super High School Level Choreographer

A girl of average height and an athletic body hidden under baggy clothing, she has a tendency to be bored with everything majority of the time. She is one of the final group of survivors of Archive of Despair.

Yasu Ieyasu

Male Students from Archive of Despair 2

Genjirou Genji

Super High School Level Music Producer

(write description here)

  • Butt-Monkey: Through a combination of his attempted murder in chapter 1, his fear room, and his fight history so far, he's managed to become an almost universally disliked person on the island.
  • Money Fetish: His fear room involves seeing money burning around him. He doesn't last very long.

Jin Suzumiyatake

Super High School Level Shamisen Player

Taking pride in your work is super important. Just being the best isn’t enough, right? You’ve gotta know you’re the best.

Jin is the lead singer of Star Cinq, an indie group that fuses aggressive modern styles like visual kei with traditional sounds and instruments. Jin is loud, flashy, problematic, and has an ego the size of Jupiter, and that's exactly the way he likes it.

Jun Fumio

Super High School Level Chef

(write description here)

Kousuke Nojima

Super High School Level Sprinter

(write description here)

  • Covered in Gunge: He starts off chapter 2 by being covered in gravy, thanks to Ameya messing with the boys' showerheads.
  • Fear of Thunder: Revealed in the fear room, it's enough to make him tap out after six minutes.

Leo Hazuki

Super High School Level Host

(write description here)

  • I Know Your True Name: Thanks to losing his ID card in the first chapter, this is now something to hold over his head, especially by Ameya.

Ichimonji Manga

Super High School Level Networker

(write description here)

Nagisa Yamanami

Super High School Level ???

"Number thirteen, la mort. Death… In order to open a door one must close one first. It’s a very misunderstood card."

A mysterious student with lost memories and a gentle demeanor. He has a penchant for tarot cards and going off on rambling rants. The smile on his face never seems to really leave it. There is really not much known about him.

  • Gentleman Snarker: Has done this with both Rinta and Genji. A notable example being something said to Genji after he almost killed Mimu. "You didn’t murder so what does it matter? Someone who almost robs a bank hasn’t yet robbed it. From what I heard you didn’t even touch Inagaki-chin anyway. Good for you, I guess you thought better of it."
I'm Crying, but I Don't Know Why: Regarding a music box.

Super High School Level Dog Trainer

I don’t mind babbling as long as it’s interesting. Some people don’t know when to shut up. I mean, I get the feeling you probably don’t either, but I guess I can always just walk off if I get bored.

You'll find this hoodie-wearing, sour faced shortie skulking the halls of the Archive with his faithful pooch Arthur at his heels. While he may look like he somehow walked in off the street, Red is an expert on all things canine. And if you know what's good for you, you'll be good to your pets in his presence, or be relieved of your teeth.

  • Angry Guard Dog: Red's general attitude is more reminiscent of this than Man's Best Friend.
  • Berserk Button: Animal cruelty, particularly to dogs. Also, once he's attached to someone, any harm coming to them.
  • Big, Friendly Dog: Arthur, Red's constant companion. She's really more medium sized than big, but her enthusiasm makes up for it.
  • Genius Bruiser: Actually likes reading, and has a solid grasp of genetics and biology (concerning dogs in particular). Mostly a bruiser though.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Really, he's looking for fights if he can get them. He thinks they're fun. But he's also got a nasty temper that goes off at the slightest nudge.
  • Hates Being Touched: Especially if you surprise him. Nagisa learned this the hard way.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's an asshole, but if you can win him over, he'll defend you to the death.
  • Only Friend: It's possible Kiku was the only one he considered a real friend.
  • Tsurime Eyes: In his sprites, perhaps emphasising the near constant glower he wears.

Pierce Mateo Moshe

Super High School Level Pizza Delivery Boy

(write description here)

Female Students from Archive of Despair 2

Aika Akiyama

Super High School Level Paranormal Psychologist

(write description here)

Ameya Matsura

Super High School Level Narrator

Well, it’s not The Narrator’s place to consider where the plot may be going? It is only the time to observe as things happen, or perhaps provide the occasional bout of foreshadowing. Surely we all must progress to find the information anyway. The Narrator provides no direct clues, for she is not the deep and relaxing voice of God.

If you’re a Japanese citizen, or indeed consume any kind of Japanese media for long enough, you’ve heard her voice. Spurred on in her childhood by a combination of her attention-seeking personality and annoyance about a lack of female voiceovers in advertisements, documentaries, movies, and media in general out of character, Ameya has been working to change the perception of male as the default voice her whole life. Her involvement in all of the above and more over the years has made her a perky pop culture icon that you couldn’t ignore if you tried.

Though it's hard to tell how she would really feel in such a situation, as detached as she always acts, she takes mutual killing as in stride as anyone can.
  • Rapunzel Hair: Purposely averts Godiva Hair when she's getting Jin to sign her boobs (Makes Just as Much Sense in Context.)
  • Sequel Snark
Ameya: This feels so poorly planned out it’s probably a sequel, too.
  • Sophisticated as Hell
Ameya: The novelist introduces herself, and the Narrator allows herself a comically agog reaction to this information! She even poses like a parody of the popular painting The Scream while she processes this bigass fucking revelation!
  • Spell My Name with a "The": Whenever she refers to herself, it's as "The Narrator," with The capitalized.
  • Spiders Are Scary: During her stint in the fear room, this is enough to cause her to start tearing off her clothes, scratching herself up, dropping third person, and forgetting the button she insisted she would press instantly for hours beforehand. She still taps out after five minutes.
  • Talks Like a Simile: Most recently "Even if she clings to him like a cat or a small albino gangster stuck in a tree..."
  • The Nicknamer: Seems to have at least three nicknames for everyone in the cast and almost never refers to people by name. Classic examples: "Umami-kun" for Kousuke, "Cotton-candy-kun" for Nagisa, "Fuckboy-kun" for Rinta, "Fancy-chan" for Katsumi...
  • Theory of Narrative Causality: "Things happen because the plot says they should" is practically her life philosophy, especially in a mutual killing game. One of the tropes she brings up in dialogue more often than not.
  • Thinking Out Loud: Constantly phrases this like "The Narrator wonders..."
  • Third-Person Person: The one break was during her stint in the fear room, where she referred to herself as 'I' for the first time.
  • True Blue Femininity: Befitting her childish nature.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Kousuke. Despite their actual interactions, they're very highly ranked on each others' pages.
  • Voice of Dramatic
  • Younger Than They Look: At fifteen she's one of the youngest people in Aod 2 if not THE youngest, but she looks like a fully-fledged adult, according to her about.

Chinatsu Fukui

Super High School Level Meteorologist

A girl with an affinity for storms, being naturally drawn to the danger of standing in a thunderstorm with an umbrella, Chinatsu Fukui probably meets the criteria of being insane. Her main studies involve tornadoes, as she can predict them and dangerous storms up to nearly two weeks in advance, as well as manages the Storm Awareness and Protection Program (SAPP), which brings global awareness to the dangers of storms and how to protect one's self during such an emergency. Being in office of the Japan Meteorologist Agency for Disaster Mitigation as well as earning a spot on TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System) for her weather forecasts, her face and talent with the weather is known nationally, and she shoots to be known globally.

Katsumi Sakata

Super High School Level Beauty Queen

The person you should love foremost is yourself; therefore, you should have more self-respect than to throw away a perfectly good life over another.”

The daughter of a wealthy entrepreneur, Katsumi has been competing in beauty pageants for thirteen years – and winning them, too. From tutus to ballgowns, she’s practically been a pageant queen since she could read. In fact, she’s Japan’s current record holder for most pageants won, having most recently (and most famously) won both the Japan Bishōjo Contest and the Miss Nippon contest. With the addition of her side career in modelling and the fact that she’s the face of Empress Mascara, the name of Katsumi Sakata is a must-know for any aspiring fashionista.

  • Alpha Bitch: Opinions may vary on how close she is to Lovable Alpha Bitch. Whilst mean and petty to those who irk her, she doesn't set out to be cruel; on the other hand she certainly doesn't have a heart of gold.
  • Berserk Button: Being touched without her permission. Another minor one is phrases such as "bimbo" or "airhead" being applied to her. According to her stint in the fear room, thinking of herself as a failure is also a meltdown waiting to happen.
  • Daddy's Girl
  • Deadpan Snarker: Gets her fair share of snark.
  • Genre Savvy: Thanks to all the crime fiction she's read. There's also the two previous mutual killing games to learn from.
  • Hair Decorations: Her butterfly hairclip.
  • Hair Flip: Prone to these.
  • Hate at First Sight: With many people, most prominently Jin. They despise each other from the moment they find out they're to be roommates.
  • Hates Being Touched
  • Ice Queen
  • I'll Kill You!: Screams this at Aku-chan in a blind rage after she supposedly kills Mori for refusing to go into the fear room (and then hitting Aku-chan in self defence after being attacked with a scalpel). Considering that she's seen two previous mutual killing games and knows what happens to people who hurt the headmaster, it counts as an Ineffectual Death Threat.
  • Informed Attractiveness: It's even her Super High School Level.
  • Jerkass
  • Meaningful Name: Katsumi means "victorious beauty".
  • Moment of Weakness: In the fear room. She's reduced to tearful screaming and digs her nails into her own arms to the point of drawing blood.
    • Another, more dangerous one happens after Aku-chan appears to have killed Mori. Katsumi launches into a screaming rage, threatening to kill the dragon and even going so far as throwing her shoe at her, despite having only recently discussed with Kousuke the importance of not breaking the rules. Fortunately her blind rage caused her to miss, and after some serious words from Kousuke (and the reveal that Mori wasn't dead) she calmed down.
  • Nerves of Steel: Most obviously shows in trials.
  • Ojou: Thanks to her being the daughter of Isao Sakata, the CEO of SakataCorp., who are giants in the field of chemical and energy production. One of the decidedly frosty variety.
  • Pink Means Feminine: With her pink scarf and hairclip, although her favourite colour is actually lapis lazuli (not blue).
  • Precision F-Strike: Very, very occasionally drops these into her speech.
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt
  • Rich Bitch
  • Shoe Slap: After her stint in the fear room she threw her broken high heel at Ameya, and connected. Later she tried to use the second one on Aku-chan but thankfully missed.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: She doesn't like to swear and considers it crude, but may drop the occasional profanity into her speech in order to mock somebody or emphasise a point.
  • Stage Mom: Her mother most definitely is one.
  • Statuesque Stunner: The third tallest female character (tied with Katoko) after Min Meng and Chinatsu, and the tallest girl when wearing her ridiculously high heels.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: With a decidedly larger dose of ice than sugar.
  • The Fashionista
  • The Nicknamer: Towards a few select individuals.
    • Leech-san and Parasite-san for Genji and Manga, respectively.
    • 8-bit eyebrows or Banana streak hair for Jin
    • Little Fawn for Mori, occasionally.
  • The Perfectionist
  • The Prima Donna: Subverted somewhat. Katsumi may act like a Prima Donna in her everyday life, but one of the main reasons why she's been so successful is her professional air, hardworking attitude and strict self-discipline.
  • The Social Expert: She hasn't gotten so far as a teen style idol by sheer luck. Emphasised by her having the Judgment perk, which allows her to tell whether or not somebody is lying simply by being a good judge of character.
  • Tranquil Fury: Befitting her Ice Queen personality and carefully controlled image, she very rarely actually rages. However, this doesn't mean that her controlled anger is any less threatening.
Katsumi: Genji, shut up. If you dare to lay a hand on Mori-san for this, I will cut that hand off and shove it down your throat. Do I make myself absolutely clear?

Katoko Omonokeda

Super High School Level Gravure Idol

Omonokeda’s well-known not only for her extremely bizarre name, but for her pretty face as well. Featured in many magazines and advertisements, she is an up and coming teen model desired for her mature looks. However, she is not just a fashion idol, but rather she is infamous for her work as a gravure idol where her sexual appeal is exaggerated despite being a completely fresh, new face. She is noted for being both cute and alluring and had even won the Gravure Idol Award in the first year she started working. While this is not the only modeling work she does, it’s indeed a rather popular part of her career among male audiences.

Kiku Fujikawa

Super High School Level Animal Behaviourist

Fujikawa Kiku was a girl that had a touch with animals since she first interacted with one, and people that knew her were certain she'd get a career around it and be very sucessful. They were right. She's selective mute, however, so she hardly interacts with people, due to not being able to talk to them. As it is usually accompanied with social anxiety, those two problems of her walk side by side in making her life very difficult.

  • Break the Cutie: Thanks to Red's death.
  • Cute Mute
  • Fluffy Tamer: Befriended a bear once, although many people don't believe her for it, she still has proven to be able to tame other dangerous animals while trying to help them. She thinks All animals are Cute, but won't fight you about it.
  • Friend to All Living Things: A true Disney princess, really. There's just Something about her that draws animals in.
  • Graceful in Their Element: Clumsy with people, flawless in dealing with animals.
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: She does like purple quite a bit, it isn't just her hair (although it might be one of the reasons why she likes).
  • Happily Adopted: Kiku was adopted by her aunt, and never met her father or remembers her mother very well.
  • Nature Hero: As she lived in a farm while growing up, she had some degree of distance from the human civilization, if you think of it as big cities, and most importantly had a great deal of affinity with wildlife, and a lack of social skills.
  • Nature Lover
  • Odd Friendship: With Red.
  • Older Than They Look: Often confused with a child or a young teenager, but she's 16.
  • Prone to Tears: When talking- or rather, interacting with people she doesn't know, this intensifies.
  • Shrinking Violet: Especially when you think of her issues with social anxiety and selective mutism.
  • The Cutie: That's.... Rather self explanatory, really.
  • The Quiet One: In a whole new level of literal. It's rather specific in that it's caused by her mutism. Like the trope puts, she can be seen talking occasionally- except only alone with people she's already comfortable with.

Kimiko Yamazaki

Super High School Level Forger

Kimiko Yamazaki’s forgeries started fairly innocently. Forgetful as a young child, she often found that she had neglected to ask her parents to sign permission slips for school, and what was she supposed to do when it was due that day? Scrawl out some kind of squiggly line that could pass as a signature, of course! She enjoyed the feeling of successfully having tricked the teacher, and decided to pay more attention to other peoples’ writing, in case being able to replicate it might prove useful again in the future. She later expanded her interests, researching the intricacies of legal documents. Today, she is well-known for her ability to perfectly replicate handwriting and signatures. It was a long-standing dream of hers to go to Hope’s Peak, and she managed to catch their attention by sending them a beautiful, handwritten letter – that appeared in every aspect to be sent by the headmaster.

  • The Glomp: Tackle-hugs pretty much everyone after their stint in the fear room. She herself is one whole glomp, or at least a Cuddle Bug.

Kiriko Kurosawa

Super High School Level Net Idol

Images of Kiriko first started circulating the web a year prior to her admittance to Hope’s Peak when a link to her personal blog was posted on the Japanese textboard, 2ch. Noted for her “doll-like facial features,” “fetishized outfits” and “clumsily-cute text posts,” she attracted many followers to her blog—more than she could have possibly imagined. With roughly 0.9% of Japanese Internet users viewing her blog each day, Kiriko’s blog was one of the most viewed websites in Japan. Most posts on her blog include pair pictures of her dressed in cosplay with encouraging text, with the intention to encourage others to work just as hard as she is.

Kyoki Fujimori

Super High School Level Horror Novelist

"Once acta est fabula, I will still live on through my writing, and so it is what I should concern myself with the most.”

Kyoki Fujimori is a dreamy, small, and shy girl doesn’t look anything like the sort of person who would write her gory, brutal, and horrifying bleak books which horrify readers to the core worldwide. Her most recent work, a cosmic horror story titled “If the darkness rests forever” has been translated into 45 languages. Called such lofty titles as “The next Lovecraft” and “The next King” by Japanese and American critics alike, each of her books reliably reaches the bestsellers lists, and movie adaptations for some of her most famous works with big-name directors and casts are on the horizon.

Min Meng

Super High School Level Dan

Meng Min came to Hope’s Peak Academy from China as a Super High School Level Dan. She has performed at the top of her class at the Beijing Peking Opera School. Because of this, she has sang in many operas and has gained quite a following. Sophisticates and commoners alike love her for her spunky personality both onstage. The media says her only negative trait is how troublesome she can be offstage. Executed in the first trial for the murder of Jun Fumio.

Rumi Kumomi

Super High School Level Waitress

Spending most of her life in a once small and drab joint restaurant-home, Rumi Kumomi looked to the wait staff as role models. She admired their dedication to serving hungry diners, even when her uncle needed to lower the pay due to poor business. That inspired her to work at the Little Dragon when she was old enough. Charming people from all over, “Ryuumi” would try her best to never let customers leave unhappy. The revolutionary twist of serving on skates was a huge hit (for the most part) in Nagoya and brought popularity to her uncle’s restaurant. After all, if fast food was unhealthy, but practical, and classic restaurant dining was substantial, but time-consuming, why not have both? Her customers were delighted to experience that—namely a Hope’s Peak Academy talent scout during a curiosity-driven visit.

Yuriko Yanagi

Super High School Level Construction Worker

Yanagi Yuirko was not a name anyone would have heard about three years agi. The desperate-for-pocket-change teen found employment in the construction field at thirteen, holding a stop/slow sign to tell traffic when it was safe to move through a construction zone. But Yuriko found she was good at construction… Very good. Whether it be getting down and dirty mixing and pouring cement, lifting and movie materials, or operating machinery, Yuriko was good at it. And she loved it. She’s now known for working with some of Japan’s top designers and architects to ensure whatever fanciful, majestic building they want to have constructed are structurally sound and completed with pleanty of time and budget to spare. She considers her best work to be the beautiful arching bridge she personally worked on that connects the top floors of two tall office buildings together.

Hua Liu Yu

Super High School Level Nail Artist

It’s impossible to find someone more passionate about nail art than Hua Yu. They’ve always been fascinated by manicures and pedicures from a very young age. After being noticed by a popular nail technician, they allowed the aspiring artist into their salon and they immediately got to work. They became popular among the regular clients and got numerous people on their waiting list, including celebrities. Once they turned fifteen, they became the first person to set up their own nail salon professionally. Even with the most intricate of designs, Hua Yu can do any task in under an hour, minus waiting for the polish to dry, of course. But waiting becomes enjoyable when you’re chatting with someone as talkative as Hua Yu. Their salon, Get Nailed, is a must go-to for anyone who loves Harajuku culture. However, they’re a tad too protective over their own nails….

Morihiko Mori

Super High School Level Model
Hi!!! Mori was wondering if Stranger-chan had any idea what was going on?

Hailing from the traditionally stylish area of Shibuya, Tokyo, Morihiko Mori has risen from child model to international modeling star, becoming one of the most popular and sought-after models in the entirety of Japan, male, female, or otherwise (or all of the above, in Mori’s case). Raised by fashion photographer parents, Mori was immersed in the world of fashion from birth, though she quickly found that his aptitude was in front of the camera, not behind it. After getting scouted by an agent when she was ten years old, Mori’s career took off like a rocket, inspiring models not only in Japan, but around the world, often ones who were several years if not decades his senior. Her transition from child model to adult model was seamless, and his personality, looks, and charisma all contributed to both the numerous shows she’s done outside of Japan, and her Super High School Level title.

  • Actual Pacifist
  • Ambiguous Gender: Already Kyoki has been confused about Mori's gender. She is likely not the first.
Kyoki: The stranger was an interesting-looking type, for sure. Both their wardrobe and, to the best of Kyoki’s knowledge of such things, their facial features, were aesthetically pleasing, although Kyoki found difficulty telling whether they were male or female.
  • Berserk Button: Though it (thankfully) hasn't happened in canon, use of the pronoun "it" in reference to her will actually cause Mori to get angry, one of the few things that will.
  • Bi the Way
  • Break the Cutie: Mori was injured grievously and Katsumi attempted to end their friendship afterwards.
  • Polyamory
  • Third-Person Person
  • "Which Restroom" Dilemma: Subverted, in that there are restrooms for males, females, and nonbinary folk, of which Mori can use all of them.
