    Anabel

Click here to see AS Anabel
Voiced by: Miyuki Sawashiro (Japanese), Jessica McDonald (English)

A female knight of the Royal knights with incredible skill. Having a strong sense of justice all her life, she is now known as a Paladin. People believe she's the reincarnation of the first Paladin, Anna. Beasts destroyed her village when she was young. As the sole survivor, it is now her life's goal to wipe out the evil Beasts.

  • Action Initiative: Her Another Style skill "Daylight Break" takes priority regardless of her own speed stat, ensuring she will always act first.
  • Battle Ballgown: Her outfit, befitting her status as a Paladin and her graceful nature.
  • Birthmark of Destiny: She has a star-shaped birthmark on her chest that marks her as Anna's reincarnation.
  • Irrational Hatred: The reason she doesn't get along with Deirdre is not only because their personality is incompatible, but also because they are so incompatible that just seeing each other causes headache for both of them. As noted below, this is due to their memories and sisterly bond being taken by Verweil as Deirdre's payment for saving Anabel as a child. After Anna helps her remember, the headache is gone.
  • Lady of War: She is graceful in appearance and also fierce in combat, complete with being The Dreaded status among the beastfolk.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Her sister Deirdre saved her life when they were young with the power of a demonic sword. The sword erased both sisters’ memory of each other in exchange for the deed.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Anabel never finds out in "The First Knight and the Holy Sword" that the Commander Anabel in the parallel time layer is not actually an alternate version of her, but rather Deirdre's.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: She's one of the only characters to carry a shield in combat, fitting her status as a paladin and a defensive character.
  • Non-Elemental: While she's theoretically classed as a Water unit, all her best skills are neutral attacks - to the point her Manifest fight exclusively uses neutral attacks. Averted with her Another Style that properly uses water-type attacks.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Not her, but rather her predecessor Anna. Anna's goal is to end all conflict, and she realized in order to achieve that, all life on earth must end. Anabel is horrified by this and vows to stop her.
  • The Paladin: Her title, even in-story. She fits the image of a Knight in Shining Armor to the degree that she's the best fit for the Knight Errant role in the Theatre — even more so than Aldo, who's playing as himself. Gameplay-wise, this is reflected in her skills, as she's one of the most defensive units.
  • Reincarnation-Identifying Trait: She shares a unique birthmark with Anna, the First Paladin.
  • Sole Survivor: Her hometown was completely destroyed by the beasts when she was young, and she was the only survivor. At least, she thought she was.
  • Stone Wall: Of the 5-star characters, Anabel's HP and defensive stats are difficult to beat. Her skills also allow her to inflict debuffs to take a lot of bite out of strong enemies, compensating for her relatively low damage output.

    Bertrand

Click here to see AS Bertrand
Voiced by: Rikiya Koyama (Japanese)
Bertrand was one of the best knights during Miyu's childhood, earning the nickname "Shield of Miglance" for his prowess in combat. Having lost an eye in battle, he attempted to retire, but King Miglance assigned him to look after the young Princess Miyu. Once Miyu grew up and could take care of herself, Bertrand left royal service and became a mercenary.
  • Action Initiative: His upgraded Overbear skill ignores his low SPD to forcibly inflict Rage on an enemy at the start of the turn, ensuring he can draw away its attacks before it acts.
  • Ambidextrous Sprite: He's got an eyepatch, and his sprite is simply flipped for either direction, so the eyepatch will switch eyes.
  • Badass and Child Duo: As seen in his character illustration, he is depicted with younger Miyu as her guardian.
  • Badass Cape: His is covered in stab-resistant plates, allowing him to shield himself or others.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Felmina has the bright idea to stop a tantrum from Miyu by knocking the daylights out of her, Bertrand vehemently objects — on the grounds that you can't hit the princess.
  • Discard and Draw: Bertrand's Another Style trades off his Draw Aggro skills for party-wide damage reduction barrier and a single-target attack that gets stronger with every stacked Edict. His main attack skills also gain an Earth element as opposed to the neutral piercing attacks from his original style.
  • Draw Aggro: One of the few characters who can inflict Rage to every enemy at once.
  • The Mentor: He taught Miyu how to use a sword and encouraged her in her wishes to be more proactive in her role as princess and protector of the Miglance citizens.
  • Ignored Confession: Subverted in Yipha's quest. He doesn't directly acknowledge Yipha's Love Confession to him because he didn't want to break her heart. As it turns out in Yipha's AS quest, though, this is more of a case of Cannot Spit It Out and I Want My Beloved to Be Happy rather than him not reciprocating her feelings, since he believes that Yipha would be better off not being associated with his world. He finally comes clean with his own feelings at the end of the quest, complete with Big Damn Kiss.
  • Reduced Mana Cost: His Another Style's Valor Chant grants 50% MP reduction to the party members.
  • Stone Wall: His HP and defenses are even higher than Anabel's, and he has a skill that gives him a colossal Physical Defense buff. There exists a strategy that hinges on him being as slow as possible so that he can take the brunt of as many attacks as possible.

    Breeno
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/breeno_350.png
Voiced by: Tasuku Hatanaka (Japanese)
A young Dark Elf, a race now rare in the world. He appeared in Unigan some years ago and joined the knighthood. It is unclear why this Dark Elf decided to join the knighthood. He has become well known for excelling within the order of knights.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": He refuses to have any interest in the role he's playing. When his character dies, he requests to get off the stage instead of reciting a dying speech.
  • Friendship Denial: At first Breeno denies being friends with other knights he works with, correcting any declaration that they're friends to being comrades.
  • I Work Alone: He considers his work to be on a need-to-know basis and would rather others not get involved.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: The "Celestial Tower and Shadow Witch" episode reveals that his ancestors commit an unspecified grave crime, and as a result they became dark elves and all of their descendants were cursed to be born as dark elves as well. Breeno tried to kill Medusa since he assumed it was the monster related to his ancestors' sin, although he turned out to be wrong.
  • The Stoic: He doesn't talk much, and he shows emotions even less often.

    Deirdre
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/deirdre_9.png
Voiced by: Maaya Uchida (Japanese), Jaimi Barbakoff (English)

A mysterious mercenary that works with the royal knights. However, she's known for her insubordinate behavior, and wields a demon blade whose power she is determined to awaken as soon as possible.

  • A Day in the Limelight: She is the central character of both "Two Knights and the Holy Sword" and "First Knight and the Holy Sword", which focused on her intertwined fate with the Demon Sword Verweil.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: She's desperately trying to awaken a demon blade, but she has good reasons to do so. Namely, completing the Stable Time Loop to give it to herself in the past.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Deirdre never bothers to say nice things if she can help it, especially when it comes to goody-two-shoes types like Aldo and Anabel.
(when talking about recruiting people for the La RĂ©sistance in the parallel Miglance Kingdom)
Deirdre: Well, I'm sure our expert people-pleaser *cough* Aldo! *cough* would be perfect for that sort of thing.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: While she is still aloof and retain her troublemaking streak, Deirdre becomes more mellow at the end of her episode, especially since she finally regained her memories about Anabel and decided to support her from the shadows.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: She pouts when she hears the beastfolk are terrified of Anabel's holy sword, but have never heard of Verweil. She even complains almost word-to-word that people apparently have no respect for her if the player already completed the quest that reunites her with Anabel as sisters, and she mentioned that one of the soldiers was so shocked to see her around the castle that he dropped his paperworks.
  • Empathic Weapon: Her demon sword, Verweil.
  • Faux Action Girl: Downplayed. She sees herself as a third-rate fighter who uses the power of Verweil to compensate her lack of skills, but doing her quests allows her to get better.
  • Full Health Bonus: Chaos Saber, her strongest attack, has this.
  • I See Dead People: She can both see and hear the souls of the dead on the Ancient Battlefield, courtesy of Verweil making her "attuned" to the supernatural.
  • Irrational Hatred: The reason she doesn't get along with Anabel is not only because their personality is incompatible, but also because they are so incompatible that just seeing each other causes headache for both of them. This is due to her memories (and her sisterly bond with Anabel) being taken by Verweil as payment for saving Anabel as a child, and after she regains her memories back, the headache is gone.
  • Little Sister Instinct: After regaining her memories, Deirdre decides to support Anabel from the shadows. Completing an extra quest after finishing Anabel's third character quest also reveals that she has always been like this even as a child, so Anabel can become the paladin everyone looks up to.
  • Locked into Strangeness: Her hair changed color to match her sword after forming a contract with the demon blade.
  • Long-Lost Relative: She's Anabel's sister, but doesn't remember it due to Verweil messing with her memories. A secret quest allows the two sisters to finally be reunited.
  • Pragmatic Hero: She considers playing by the rules of honor and chivalry stupid, since the enemies won't be following the rules.
  • Status Effect-Powered Ability: Chaos Saber deals massively increased damage when the target has the Pain status effect, which her Blood Raid can inflict while buffing her strength.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: In flashbacks, young Deidre and Anabel look very similar to each other. The parallel universe shows that an un-Verweil'd Deidre can pass off as Anabel to the extent that the real Anabel is willing to believe that alternate Deidre is her.
  • Took a Level in Badass: By the "First Knight and the Holy Sword", she seems to have become skillful enough to gain herself reputation among the beastfolk alongside Anabel. In gameplay, the episode also upgrades her into a 5-star unit and unlocks Verweil as her personal weapon.

    Felmina
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/101060091_base.png
Click here to see AS Felmina
Voiced by: Mao Ichimichi (Japanese)
A woman who was taken in by an unnamed guild as a child and taught a secret martial art. Tired of that life, she ran away to Miglance, working as an Information Broker. She was given a special assignment to travel the world. It seems she gave up on her travels and came back with a certain goal in mind...
  • Action Initiative: Her Another Style holds the distinction of having the first priority skill, which goes before anything else, regardless of Speed stat.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Has amazing speed, and thanks to her Manifest, ridiculous DPS. However, do not expect her to take hits in a prolonged battle.
  • Maternally Challenged: Her idea to stop young Miyu from crying is to... Knock her out. Bertrand has to talk her out of it.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Like Cerrine below, her skillset is a bit unusual; she uses two knives in battle, but since that weapon class is not available in-game, her specific weapon is fists. Several of her attacks are slashing rather than blunt to reflect the use of knives.
  • Ninja: Her use of twin knives and tendency to appear out of thin air or in a puff of smoke evokes this.
  • Sexy Slit Dress: Felmina's Qipao-like dress has a slim up to her hip that draws attention to her legs. Her 5-star portrait gives a better view of them.
  • Status Effect-Powered Ability: Her Tri-Cataclysm skill hits even harder if its target is inflicted with Poison or Pain.
  • The Stoic: To the point she takes it as a compliment when a young Miyu cries about how she looks emotionless.

    Miyu

Click here to see AS Miyu
Click here to see ES Miyu
Voiced by: Kaoru Sakura (Japanese), Jessica McDonald (English)
Obviously, Miyu is just a traveling swordsman, like Aldo. She feels strongly about protecting the citizens of Miglance. She is really the only daughter of the 7th King of Miglance, real name Mufilleux Miglance. Behind her pristine appearance is also a brilliant mind, which she inherited from her father. Her skills with a sword in particular are comparable to the finest knights. Having only ever lived in the castle, she is quite sheltered.
  • A Day in the Limelight: v1.5.5 adds the "Little Princess' Little Big Adventure" Other Tales questline, focused entirely around her childhood and granting her a new class upgrade to boot.
  • Anti-Magic: Rune Blade inflicts a potent Magic Attack debuff one one target while her Valor Chant (which activates upon switch-in) gives the entire party a massive magic resistance buff for one turn.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: The main skills from her Extra Style, if used during a Thunder Zone, inflict a guaranteed Critical Hit and also bypass any damage reduction/negation and ailment prevention shields.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Completely fails at playing her own dad in a play because she keeps on insisting that she's not royalty and is just another knight despite the role.
  • Broken Pedestal: Subverted in the first chapter of the Apocrypha. Miyu is incredibly excited to meet her famed hero, Orleya, only for her to turn out to be a Cowardly Lion who'd rather run away instead of fight. However, Miyu is completely understanding and is happy to help her with her burdens.
  • Confronting Your Imposter: Her second quest involves her dealing with an imposter claiming to be her in order to mooch free stuff.
  • Critical Status Buff: In similar manner to AS Myrus' "Transform Claw", Miyu's AS skill "Lider Espada" gets stronger the lower the remaining MP she has, meaning that it is at its strongest when she won't be able to keep fighting and has to retreat to reserve for MP recovery.
  • Disc-One Nuke: Miyu was available for free at the very start of the game as part of a promotional event celebrating its Global-side debut. Even without, she can be chosen as one of the 4* heroes the player takes at the start of the game. However, she outclasses Protagonist Aldo in almost every single way. Aldo won't get his 4* promotion until well into the main story, and won't 5* until well past book 1. Miyu starts as 4*, does everything Aldo does but better, has better stats and skills, and, should the player go out of their way to grind her special story to 5* her, remains relevant for well after Aldo becomes obsolete.
    • However Aldo has gotten several massive upgrades from some updates, and while Miyu has gotten strong AS and ES forms, her NS form has greatly fallen off in the game's meta.
  • Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: Her 5* class exploits this to an extreme. Her 5* attacking skill, Princess Bloom, applies a massive 40% wind resistance buff to the entire team for several turns, enabling her to single-handedly shut down any wind-dependent bosses. Her attacks are fire element, and fire generally beats wind.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She is a blond-haired princess who works hard to give it all to the people of her kingdom.
  • The Heart: In addition to being their protectorate, she serves as this for Bertrand and especially Felmina, as it is her offering friendship towards Felmina as a child despite the latter's repeated attempts of rejection that ultimately "saves her".
  • Impractically Fancy Clothes: She considers her frilly Battle Ballgown to be one of her simpler outfits because she doesn't have to spend all morning putting it on by herself.
  • In-Series Nickname: It turns out that Miyu is a nickname given due to her unable to pronounce her real name when she was younger.
  • Interface Spoiler: Her character description and her 5* class spoil her identity, well before her second character quest does so as The Reveal.
  • Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: Her traveling clothes might be fancier than average, but she beats down enemies just as well as everyone else.
  • King Incognito: She's actually the daughter of the king of Miglance.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Aldo quite easily pokes several holes into her very flimsy cover story of being a travelling swordsman by asking some very basic questions, but doesn't really catch on to who she is until later quests.
  • Pretty Princess Powerhouse: Without dropping her princess attire, she is largely as strong as your playable roster.
  • Princesses Prefer Pink: She wears a pink dress all the time. Her personal weapon, Little Glitter, is also a pink sword.
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: Wears tights as part of her outfit, as fitting for a noble.
  • Protectorate: She's under the guardianship of Bertrand and Felmina. Their respective Manifest fights even express this trope by having an embodiment of Miyu manifest alongside them, and if Miyu's embodiment is defeated first, they will go berserk and turn all of their attacks into OHKO's.
  • Rebellious Princess: She ran away from home because she wanted to protect her kingdom, which she couldn't do while being pampered in the palace. Her Other Tales questline reveals that she was also quite the handful as a child, to the dismay of her old nanny and later, Bertrand and Felmina.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something:
    • She's quite skilled with the sword and takes an active role in defending her kingdom.
    • When the player unlocks all skills of her Another Style, she becomes a fierce force multiplier, as her Pride of Miglance skill gives a potent damage and crit rate buff that is even stronger on her fellow Miglancian warriors, so powerhouses like Felmina and Deirdre can crush the opposition.
  • Shock and Awe: Miyu's Extra Style trades her fire alignment for a Thunder focus, and has the ability to establish a Thunder Zone to complement her skill set.
  • Showgirl Skirt: Her default dress does not fully encircle the waist, resulting in her legs showing at the front. This enables her to fight while wearing a Pimped-Out Dress.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Because of her upbringing, Miyu occasionally lacks knowledge and common sense in some things, such as how the price of the outfits and/or weapons she is interested in would be normally very difficult to afford by normal citizens. Despite this, she is a princess who is very dedicated to the well-being of her own people and takes active steps to make their lives better.
  • Super Mode: Not only does Miyu's Extra Style get the Lunatic ability from being a Thunder character, she also enters a Furystorm state when it's manually triggered, giving a monstrous overall stat boost and a surge in physical resistance while also supercharging her strongest skills. She loses all her HP if it expires, though.
  • Warrior Princess: She can more than hold her own in a fight.

    Radias
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/101010111_base.png
Click here to see AS Radias
Voiced by: Yuu Asakawa (Japanese), Kate Handford (English)
A female swordsman who carries one massive blade, and another hidden blade. She makes her living as a mercenary. She claims that she hails from the Kingdom of Miglance, but nobody can confirm this, and even her memories seems to be clouded. There are many rumors swirling about her, but all of them are nothing more than speculation.
  • Cain and Abel: Radias appears to loyal to Deidre-Anabel, but disagrees with her extremist views on beasts. However, even if she opposes her, her ultimate wish is for Deidre-Anabel to change her ways and becoming a loving sister again.
    • Cain and Abel and Seth: Radias has her world's Deidre as her big sister, but she also has the playable Deidre as her big sister. No to mention, she also has the playable Anabel who is the elder sister of playable Deidre.
  • Cuteness Proximity: She's cool, calm, and collected unless she is presented with a straw dummy. She gushes about their cuteness in her second character quest, and reveals to Aldo that she collects them rather than using them for their intended purposes as training dummies.
  • Draw Aggro: Tanks almost as well as Bertrand, since she has abilities that inflict guaranteed Rage and has comparable defensive stats to boot.
  • La RĂ©sistance: Along with her father, she is part of the group of knights those rebel against Deirdre-Anabel.
  • Mighty Glacier: Compared to Bertrand or Anabel, Radias can hit harder due to having better Power and more potential damage multipliers (plus the innate ability to trigger it herself). She is significantly faster than the both of them, but isn't up to pace with the speedier DPS units.
  • Sibling Team: She comes from a parallel universe where she is the daughter of Lakhesis and his wife. In this alternate reality, Lakehesis saved and adopted Deidre, who passed herself as her dead sister, Anabel. The two sisters grew up close and became knights together. Radias became Deidre-Anabel's closest aide after her ascension to knight commander.

    Soira
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/soira.png
Voiced by: Ayaka Saitou (Japanese)
A descendant of a rich family, Soira is a member of the Unigan knights. Being apart of the knighthood seems to have unaffected her natural sleepy and lackadaisical character. She wanders around the city and helps whomever needs help.
  • Accidental Aiming Skills: She's able to hit a flying enemy with pepper powder, but only because of a lucky gust of wind. Her aim is terrible.
  • Battle Ballgown: Seems to be standard for female knights in Unigan.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: She can be rather spacey. When she receives summons for official knight duty, she thinks that her job might be to water the flowers.
  • Draw Aggro: While it's not unusual for several defense-oriented characters to have the ability to inflict Rage on enemies, Soira stands out in that her Valor Chant inflicts this on all enemies at once. This is meant to synergize with her personal defense buff (which provides a massive defense bonus) but can lead to her getting knocked out more often if timed poorly.
  • Sleepyhead: One of her favorite activities is taking naps.
  • Smarter Than You Look: As her second character quest reveals when she managed to foil a beast attack plot, despite her Cloudcuckoolander nature, she can be surprisingly perceptive.
  • Unusual Eyebrows: She has small triangles for eyebrows.
