Chuichi Genda

Super High-School Level ??? /Conspiracy Theorist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/6c831c9c71e750bb90d6a831b81f392b.png
"Nice try. You can’t sneak up on me, I know what you’re up to."

An average boy both in terms of height and weight, he wears many loose-fitting clothes. A gold key and a pair of mysterious sunglasses are slung around his neck. He wears angular glasses and a floppy hat, with his wavy hair dyed twiceover he seems to take good care of it.

Executed at the end of chapter 1 for killing Yasu Shimamoto.

  • Casanova Wannabe: Hits on pretty much every one of his female classmates, with zero success.
  • Conspiracy Theorist
  • Neck Snap: For his execution, he's given a camera and placed in a sort of obstacle course filled with juicy phenomena. Then a trapdoor opens under him and the camera strap catches on it as he falls...
  • Nerd Glasses
  • Sour Supporter
  • Through the Eyes of Madness: The serum given to him by LISE has this effect, making him see everyday things and people in increasingly threatening ways. He kills Yasu Shimamoto because he's convinced they're some sort of inhuman monster.

Félix Achille Krier

Super High-School Level ???/Poet

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20260a37b908a90a1a7da7e8e2bade6a.png
"Dost thou see anything, Monsieur… Monsieiur… Have we made our introductions yet, my friend? Oh, I have been terribly rude! I am called Félix- Félix Achille Krier!"

A tall boy with broad shoulders and sincere blue eyes. His body is peppered with subtle freckles. Félix has windblown, messy hair and wears armor, underneath which is a strong, but not bodybuilder-esque, build. He is definitely a presence in a room.

Found dead in chapter 2, having been stabbed in the neck with a spear.

Hibiki Inori

Super High-School Level ???/ Epidemiologist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/33db8e1d47118fbf5d2b528702fd3182.png
"Nevermind. You know what? Fuck it… I’m going to my dorm. Don’t you dare follow me. You in-infected me… I’ll remember this…"

Pale-skinned and in need of healthy nutrition and sleep, it seems. He is of an average height and yet his limbs seem a little too lanky in proportion to his body. He wears black gloves and a lab coat, his clothes perhaps a bit drab. A medical mask covers his mouth and nose.

One of the three victims of chapter three, killed by Katashi Miyashita.

Hiro Morikawa

Super High-School Level ??? Rhetorician:

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/15f185f8d42c5f232eb09630317d0053.png
"Yes, I heard you. But then I saw your face and had the overwhelming urge to punch you. It’s science, really."

A skinny and perhaps flimsy looking brown-haired boy. He wears glasses. He generally wears dark or monochrome colours and his right hand is covered in bandages. The tanktop he wears appears to have the Hand of Eris emblazoned on it.

One of the three victims of chapter three, killed by Katashi Miyashita.

Izo Omori

Super High-School Level ???

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0d5dd9f6685888e2d73b61ea41232d22.png
"Ahahaha... we're all here to do something, aren't we?"

A small mysterious boy who dons a paper bag over his head. What's under the bag? No one knows but Izo. On the other hand, due to this condition, perhaps he even doesn't know. His entire body is covered— including mittens—in all but one area: the neck.

Katashi Miyashita

Super High-School Level ???/Astrophysicist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8624d36a4b22f79690bbc27fa7b54ac8.png
"I wasn't judging you. J-Just telling the truth from over yonder.

A gangly youth with bad hunching posture. He has pinkish-red hair (which is dyed) and wears glasses - his usual expression appears to be one of worry. A blue shirt and darker blue tie is underneath a large puffy jacket with a feather trim. His jacket comes equipped with a few pockets and slip on gloves. He also wears dark greenish-blue pants with white wool sock and brown loafers.

Executed in chapter 3 for murdering Hibiki, Shiwa and Hiro.

  • Big Bad Friend: With Kimiko Genkaku.
  • Megane: The glasses don't lie. Might be meek enough to fall under the Meganekko trope.
  • Dye Hard: In-universe example. His bio states that his reddish-pink hair is unnatural. Now thanks to amnesia, he doesn't even know it's real color.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Often scolding himself for decisions he soon immediately regrets, calling himself an idiot. Goes not so heroic when he calls himself a failure after confessing to the murder of three people.
  • Implied Love Interest: He tells the rest of them before his execution to say sorry to Akihito Kotonomiya and even says he did all this for 'love'.
  • Meekness Is Weakness: His worried expression and gangly appearance seems to vouch for this. Subverted when we learn he pulled a Beware the Quiet Ones as Chapter 3's murderer.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: "C-C… C-Could you assist me in rummaging through… Uuu, this field here? I-It’s likely to contain s-s… Something regarding the condition of, mm, the hospital?" This becomes less often as he descends into despair after regaining his memories and watching so many people die.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Underneath that puffy coat is a polo and tie.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses
  • Sympathetic Murderer: Despite killing off three, Katashi was shown to have deep regrets and went out with some form of honour.
  • The Cynic: Judging from his first reaction to the incentive being 'Everyone is going to kill me', he doesn't have the brightest outlook on life.
  • Verbal Tic: Includes "Um", "Mukyuu", "Uuu", and the more rare "Hawawawa..." Seems to be used less after Kimiko's death- reminding him of his Alpha Bitch bully Nana Ichinose.
  • Birds of a Feather: With Sachi Kikkawa. Pulls a Ship Sink after Chapter 3.
  • Used to Be More Social: Without his memories and prior to his admittance to his middle school, he seemed to be more friendly. Then he was brutally bullied.
  • Nepotism: He was tormented as a child because other students created rumors regarding his uncle being the headmaster.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: With his sad send-off and regrets it's easy to consider him this especially given he was likely led astray by Kimiko Genkaku.

Ryota Mizushima

Super High-School Level ???/Surfer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a2ad67cc6dc051f15e1cdb341144b355.png
"Ayyyy what is up broseph?!!?"

Darkened by a strong tan, he seems to spent a lot of time outdoors. He has wavy black hair and an intimidating muscular physique that doesn’t seem traditional when compared to other Japanese boys of a similar age.

Killed by LISE early in chapter 2...for eating outside of the cafeteria.

Yuichi Chinen

Super High-School Level ???

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4b058f3e81894b1f863ef11582cc96ee.png
"Please strike your fist into the person that is the least distanced from you that is not me. This is for research purposes."

A boy with a stern face who wears rather plain clothing, he always wears rubber gloves. There are lavender-banded braces on his upper row teeth and he wears dark green glasses. There is little muscle on him and he seems almost sickly, with bags noticeable under the eyes. The bright red high-tops he wears on his feet stand out against the rest of his fashion.

Atsuko Tengan

Super High-School Level ??? Cult Leader

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/d42d2883d0168dd5cd39c00dc81c5599.png
"I’m sorry, it’s just I was really nervous about it. Stealing is wrong, so I wouldn’t want to do anything bad like that. And since I woke up, I haven’t really been doing any yelling, so I didn’t know what my voice would sound like doing that."

A pale-faced childlike girl with a baby face. Clad in a pink dress, pink cape, pink boots, pink mittens, pink EVERYTHING, safe to say she has a very girly appearance.

Kimiko Genkaku

Super High-School Level ???/Naginatadoka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/def197b8e89889e99d66f113be291a8f.png
"Hiiiii~ I'm Kimiko Genkaku... Apparantly. My memory is a little hazy right now so I can't remember anything! Let's hook up sometime and get some food hm?"

A girl who stands out in a crowd, she seems to have a presence about her. Dressed in fashionable gyaru-styled clothes, she has thick red curly hair with a blue hairband tyed across it. There’s a beauty mark by her mouth. She doesn’t look like a pushover.

Executed in chapter 2 for murdering Felix as the 'Shogun Executioner'. She also claims to have been the original organizer of the mutual-killing game before someone else wiped her memories and threw her in with the rest of the group. Judging by her mannerisms upon regaining her memory, she may have been a member of SHSL Despair.

Nijino Takajo

Super High-School Level ???/Confidant

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f92423ae589b1a71036e5b704f2bea41.png
"Ufufufu… identify myself? You’re in luck, I can literally do that. Since I have an Identification Card! Ta-dah! Nijino Takajo! That’s me. I guess. The I in ID may actually be for I as in myself, right? Okay, but it’s your turn now, fair’s far!"

A curvaceous girl dressed in whites - her body type seems to suggest foreign blood. Her hair is blonde in the front, white and black at the back and has a curly quality to it. She is absurdly thin, particularly her arms. A golden crown pendant hangs off her neck and a blue ribbon is tied to her left leg. Two blue beads are stuck under her left eye.

Executed in chapter 4 for murdering Niki Ikutano.

Niki Ikutano

Super High-School Level ??? Survival Expert

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b4d85db352a03cc6d8af975a7f1bbe9c.png
"...Hope you're not planning to kill me already. I haven't even had dinner yet."

Very strong in appearance with a scar on her face and several more on her back. Red hair is tied into a ponytail and her skin is lightly tanned. She is muscular and looks capable of anything thrown her way. From the knee down are metal prosthetics.

Killed by Nijino Takajo in chapter 4.

  • Amazonian Beauty: While she isn't Sakura-level buff, she's noted to have a very toned upper body and strong arms, a la Mikasa Ackerman.
  • Bare Your Midriff: And abs.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Upon obtaining one of her personal items, she recalls the circumstances surrounding her injuries and time on the island, and they're not happy at all. While on a summer cruise with two friends named Taeko and Nonoka, the ship sank when its engine blew out, resulting in her many scars. Nonoka died getting them to dry land, and Taeko passed away shortly after, apparently while trying to nurse Niki back to health. On top of that, her injuries were so severe that she ended up having to amputate her legs by herself.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Occasionally.
  • Deserted Island: Remembered having been stranded on one in the past. It evidently wasn't a nice place, as she was on the brink of death from starvation and dehydration.
  • Fiery Redhead: Subverted. In comparison to fellow redheaded student Kimiko, Niki is more of The Stoic.
  • Gray Eyes: Type 2, adding to her aloof vibe.
  • Handicapped Badass: A double amputee, and yet probably one of the physically-strongest students.
  • Parental Abandonment / Parental Neglect: Her third memory flash, of recuperating in the hospital (presumably from her time on the island), mentions that her parents basically never visited her. Although apparently their relationship was very strained beforehand.
  • Precision F-Strike: In response to the possibility that she's a serial killer, although more because she's aware it paints a huge potential target on her back than that she actually believes it. Sure enough, it's a lie.
  • Scars Are Forever: While she doesn't yet remember where they came from, her scars seem old enough that she most likely received them a long time ago.
  • Someone Has to Die: This was basically Niki and Nijino's last conversation as they both agreed in order to save the others, someone would have to die.
  • Survivor Guilt: Her second memory flash is of two people she was very close to dying, apparently to protect her. It actually makes her start to cry.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail
  • Wrong Name Outburst: At the end of the second trial, she calls the about-to-be-executed Kimiko "Nonoka". It's heavily implied this is one of the people who she knew that died.

Sachi Kikkawa

Super High-School Level ???

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a91a8bb2cf47eb958f9db638b602838c.png
“I..I just want to f-find out who I am and go home to my loved ones..”

Despite having a small presence, this bespectacled girl is very tall and seems to be very athletic with muscular arms and legs. She wears a cape that often covers her left arm. A braid is tied across her hair.

     Nonbinary Students

Shiwa Hirayama

Super High-School Level ???/ Harpist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/809378dae6f2922f152d944570b99713.png
"This one is me. Or so I assume. That face is not familiar to me."

An androgynous and small thin person with impressively styled hair and teary-looking eyes. They seem to have little in the way of expression. Soft-bodied, they barely seem to have joints. The clothes, baggy in nature, hang off the frame, particularly the turtleneck they wear.

One of the three victims of chapter three, killed by Katashi Miyashita.

  • Ambiguous Gender: Not just by nature of being nonbinary, but they seem not to care much anyway, can't articulate to themselves anything more specific, and accept any pronouns.
  • Harp of Femininity: Still nonbinary, but the outfit tips more towards this than not.
  • Improbable Hairstyle
  • Mysterious Past: Like everyone else in the game, they remember nothing about their life before it. Even the one memory flash they had, concerning their talent no less, was strangely vague.
  • Perpetual Expression: A lack thereof.
  • The Stoic

Yasu Komori

Super High-School Level ???

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f40764655bfd1fc40f1340a06584a926.png
"As for me! My name is, well apparently, Yasu Komori! I’m 16 years old. As for why I’m purple? Well why are your eyebrows so huge? I haven’t a clue for the answer to either! Of corpse that’s because I’ve lost my memory, I’m sure there’s a reason for both of them!"

Tiny and nearly skeletal, it seems even a gust of wind could knock them over. Pale, with bags under their eyes, it doesn’t look as if they got much sunglight.

  • Bad Dreams: Remembered having them a lot, although why is still a mystery.
  • Break the Cutie: Despite having macabre interests and a fun sense of humour, Yasu has been pelted non-stop with despair.
  • Cheshire Cat Grin
  • Creepy Cute: In-universe - a few students consider they're somewhat adorable, but then they do things like sneaking up on people while singing unnerving childrens' songs.
  • One Steve Limit: Averted, as there are two Yasus. They initially considered the possibility that there had been a misprint on the IDs.
  • Pungeon Master
  • Survivor Guilt: Given so many have died, it's not that surprising.

Yasu Shimamoto

Super High-School Level ??? /Commercial Fisher

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7163df27b7e22bdab45e7abc1298b92b.png
"Oh, are you talking to me? Um, it's...nice to meet you I suppose."

A sturdy and muscular person with a curious heart-shaped birthmark under the left eye. Wearing thick waterproof clothing, they have slightly darkened skin and a smattering of freckles around their face and neck. A silver earring is in their left ear.

The victim of chapter one, killed by Chuichi Genda.

LISE

Super High-School Level ???

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/86238433c6d07ca070c679af5f720535.png
"I am the Lead Intelligence System Entity… buffering… acronym_string loading… LISE. You may think of me as a guide or an unbiased onlooker. I am only here to record the behaviour and results of all sixteen patients."

A cube-shaped AI. Not much about LISE is known other than the fact they are apparently watching over the patients. The mysterious mascot of the hospital it is unknown whether LISE is an ally to the children or an enemy. They claim to just be here to help.
