Born in North Dakota, Nicole was studying marketing at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, when she was cast on America's Next Top Model at the age of 19. Initially, Nicole struggled in the competition and placed in the bottom two twice, but the judges saw immense potential in her. Nicole's performance strengthened overseas but it was almost derailed when she got into a feud with Bre Scullark when Bre accused Nicole of eating her granola bars and poured Nicole's energy drinks down in the sink in retaliation. Nicole faced off against Nik in the final two and the judges favored both her walk and her look, proclaiming her the winner.

  • Innocent Blue Eyes: She has large blue eyes, giving her a very youthful appearance.
  • One-Steve Limit: She is the first Top Model winner named Nicole. The other being Nicole Fox.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: The judges note how well her pale complexion contrasts with her dark hair.
  • The Rival: Even before the granola bar incident, she and Bre clashed throughout the competition.
  • The Scapegoat: Bre accuses her of stealing her granola bars.
  • The Unfavorite: She says in her audition that her mom prefers her younger sister over her.
  • "Well Done, Daughter!" Girl: After show, Nicole says her relationship with her mother improved.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: During a challenge where they had to pose as statues, she gets attacked by pigeons, which causes her to freak out and botch the challenge.

Then 21-year-old Nik Pace was noted for her strong performance, receiving first call-out three times over the course of the competition and being voted CoverGirl of the Week seven times. However, the judges noted that her range could be limited; she frequently delivered photos in the same profile or 3/4 profile angles. Nik's performance was briefly shaken at Secret Platinum deodorant commercial in which Nik got into a fight with Jayla Rubinelli for "stealing" her line for the commercial. Nevertheless, Nik and Jayla reconciled overseas and her performance stayed consistent. But in the final runway challenge, the judges felt Nik's look and walk were too "bouncy" and commercial, and she placed second.

     Bre
Bre Scullark

Noted for her raspy, sultry voice and spunky personality, Bre won two challenges, was voted Covergirl of the Week twice and received one first call-out during her stint on ANTM. Despite this, Bre had an inconsistent performance, placing in the bottom two five times. She is most remembered for accusing Nicole Linkletter of stealing her granola bars and pouring out her energy drinks in retaliation, which she later reenacted for a Cycle 8 photoshoot. Towards the end of the competition, Bre's performance declined and she placed third.

  • Mona Lisa Smile: During the Art Imitates Art pictorial.
  • The Napoleon: At 5'8", she was not the shortest in the competition but the judges noted she tended to look shorter in photos.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Her full name is "Brittany" and Ebony referred to her as "Brittany" during auditions, but she went by "Bre" for the remainder of the competition.
  • Redemption Equals Death: She and Nicole patch things up before she got the boot.
  • Revenge Before Reason: The whole granola bar incident. Bre has no proof that Nicole stole her granola bars but Nicole's refusal to take responsibility for them prompts Bre to pour out Nicole's energy drinks in retaliation.
  • Tranquil Fury: Bre keeps a calm demeanor when she fights with Nicole over the missing granola bars and refuses to apologize.

The then 20-year-old model from Tucson, Arizona was initially a strong performer, receiving first call-out once and being consistently praised by judge Nigel Barker for her photos. Jayla became close friends with Nicole Linkletter, but clashed with Nik Pace when Nik accused Jayla of stealing her secret for the Secret Platinum deodorant commercial. When the other contestants sided with Nik, Jayla went on a verbal tirade against Nik in the confession room. The two reconciled overseas but Jayla struggled in the competition. After failing to stand out in the Bollywood-themed photoshoot, she was eliminated and placed fourth overall.

  • Rebellious Spirit: She was raised as a Jehovah's Witness, but has no problem with posing nude, smoking, swearing or drinking.

     Kim
Kim Stolz

Then 21-year-old Kim had just graduated from Wesleyan University when she was cast on Cycle 5 and impressed the judges with her fresh, butch appearance and pride in being an openly lesbian model. However, Kim was frequently criticized for letting her masculine side overpower her femininity and for her poor runway walk. Kim quickly became close with Sarah Rhoades and the two kissed in the limousine, but Kim often clashed with other contestants due to her gossipy nature. Towards the end of the competition, Kim received one first call out but then her performance quickly declined, causing her to place fifth overall.

  • Bifauxnen: The judges note that her butch appearance makes her look unique and fresh within the fashion industry.
  • Big Damn Kiss: With Sarah in the limousine, which Kim later reenacts for a photoshoot in Cycle 8.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She often made snarky comments about her competitors in her confessionals.

The then 24-year-old Los Angeles native had been modeling since she was a young teenager and claims to sent her audition tape to America’s Next Top Model as a dare. On the show, Lisa quickly proved to be a front-runner with her modeling experience and knowledge of the fashion industry. However, Lisa's greatest hindrance proved to be her boisterous personality, which occassionally veered into obnoxiousness. She frequently clashed with other contestants in her attempts to give them unsolicited advice and she was reprimanded on the Wild Boyz photoshoot for peeing in a diaper as a joke. Overseas, the judges noted that her attitude had become more arrogant and she was eliminated, placing sixth overall.

  • Abusive Parents: Lisa mentions her mother was neglectful and their relationship is strained.
  • The Alcoholic: Coryn calls her an "alcoholic bitch" during an argument.
  • Attention Whore: Lisa pees in a diaper as a joke to impress the Wild Boyz and Nicole and Bre theorize that Lisa disliked the Wild Boyz not paying attention to her.

  • Red Baron: Known as "the Wild Child."
  • Younger Than They Look: She was 24 at the time of filming but one of her major criticisms was that she photographed much older.

Then 19-year-old Kyle hailed from the small town Dexter, Michigan and claimed to have never met a lesbian before the show. She became good friends with Kim Stolz and Nicole Linkletter while also winning a challenge and first call out for the plastic surgery-themed photoshoot. However, Kyle's performance quickly declined and the judges felt she was struggling to stand out, causing her to be the sixth contestant to be eliminated.

  • Statuesque Stunner: At 5'10,'' she was the one of the tallest contestants in the cycle.
  • Tomboyish Name: Subverted. Although she has a masculine name, she is very girly.

Then 19-year-old Coryn was noted for her athletic build, strong features and thick eyebrows. However, the judges cautioned Coryn that she couldn't build too much muscle or else she would limit her modeling potential. Coryn clashed with Lisa D’Amato, who tried to give her unsolicited advice about her appearance. The confrontation jarred Coryn's performance, and when her photograph for a Secret Platinum deodorant print ad was reviewed, the judges noted the sadness in her eyes. Consequently, Coryn became the fifth contestant to be eliminated from the show.

  • Amazonian Beauty: She is tall and muscular, which both Lisa and the judges criticize her for.

  • Tomboy: Often seen exercising during the show, and Lisa criticizes her for this.
  • Wham Line: She and Lisa have a verbal spat and when Lisa accuses Coryn of looking like a moron on national television, Coryn snaps back:
Coryn: "And what are you doing, alcoholic bitch!?"
  • Younger than She Looks: She is only 19 yet but the judges note she looks more mature.

     Diane
Diane Hernandez
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/diane_5.jpg

Before being cast on Cycle 5, Diane was working for a public defender and hoped to inspire other plus-sized women to be confident in their bodies. Although Diane had much to learn about modeling, she was able to produce satisfactory photographs. However, as the weeks rolled by, and as the challenges and photo shoots became more difficult, Diane became more concerned with her body and image. Tyra felt that her lack of self-confidence not only lessened her chances of winning, but was also sent the wrong message about beauty and self-esteem, causing Diane to be the fourth contestant to be eliminated.

  • Big Beautiful Woman: The only plus-sized model this cycle.
  • Fair Cop: She works as a criminal defense investigator for a public defender prior to her appearance on the show.
  • Fatal Flaw: She gets eliminated for her "fading" personality and apparent lack of confidence with her curvy physique.
  • Spicy Latina: Subverted. She appeared to be this during her audition but she gradually becomes quiet and demure. Tyra calls her out on this, which becomes her Fatal Flaw.

     Sarah
Sarah Rhoades

Then 18-year-old Sarah quickly formed a crush on Kim Stolz and the two kissed in the limousine, but she struggled to deliver a strong performance in the competition. Sarah's runway walk proved to be her biggest criticism and despite multiple runway challenges, she never showed any improvement. After a lackluster photoshoot, she is the fourth to be eliminated.

  • The Klutz: She trips several times during the runway challenges.

     Cassandra
Cassandra Whitehead
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cassandra_0.jpg

Then 19-year-old Cassandra was a beauty pageant queen, having won several titles in her home state of Texas but she aspired to break into modeling. However, Cassandra proved to be unable to let go of her preferences for beauty pageant standards and she became emotional when she was given a pixie cut for her makeover. Although the judges praised her new look and she received first call out in the photoshoot featuring her new look, Cassandra refused to cut her hair shorter. As such, she became the first person to quit the competition, placing eleventh overall.

  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: The other girls accuse her of being "cold" because she does not show her emotions as much and she even claims that she is similar to a sociopath in that she doesn't feel emotions, until her Traumatic Haircut.

  • Non-Gameplay Elimination: She's the first contestant to quit the show.

At 18, Ebony was one of the youngest contestants on Cycle 5 and she was noted for her catchphrase, “Don’t get it twisted.” However, Ebony's vibrant personality did not translate into her photos and she struggled to showcase her new look in the "Country Couture" photoshoot, becoming the second contestant to be eliminated.

     Ashley
Ashley Black
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ashley_1.jpg

The then 22-year-old aspiring model prided herself on her beauty and during casting week, she proclaimed to the judges that her family had the "pretty gene" and that all of her relatives look like celebrities. However, the judges felt that while Ashley was a beautiful woman, her good looks did not translate into satisfactory photographs and she was the first contestant to be eliminated.

  • Everyone Loves Blondes: She is a blonde and proclaims her beauty makes her likeable.
  • I'm Not Here to Make Friends: Despite bonding with Kim during the first episode, she refuses to help her with her makeup during a runway challenge, saying it's a competition.
  • Proud Beauty: She tells the judges how her family has a "pretty gene" and how much she takes pride in her beauty.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Beautiful!: The judges accuse her of thinking she can skate by on her good looks, and eliminate her for the same reason.
