De Vera Family
Geronima "Hero"/"Nimang" de Vera, senior
- Badass Pacifist: Does not take up combat roles in the New People's Army, instead opting to be the village and cadre doctor.
- Career-Ending Injury
- Defector from Decadence
- The Illegal: She is, in fact, undocumented for quite a while after arriving in the States. Paz often worries that Hero might be found out if she's pulled over and the cops demand to see a licence that she doesn't have.
- Impoverished Patrician
- The Lad-ette: She's really not very feminine, and drinks, swears, and fucks like the best of the men in her family, as well as the less-restrained of her Filipino friends in the Bay Area.
- The Medic: Technically speaking, cadre doctor, servicing NPA cadres and the civilian villagers sheltering them.
Geronima "Roni" de Vera, junior
- Tomboy: Has a bit of that personality, though of course it's too early to say if she actually likes women (as well as men, like Hero does, or instead of them).
Apolonio "Pol" Chua de Vera
- The Casanova
- Impoverished Patrician: Sort of. He works now as a security guard in Milpitas, though hopes to resume his medical practice.
- Kavorka Man: A little bit.
- Massively Numbered Siblings: Sixth of eight in total (he came right after a sister who died in infancy, whose name, Apolonia, was Gender Flipped and transferred to him).
Cabugao Family
Rosalyn Cabugao
Adela Cabugao
Rosalyn's lola (grandma).
- Witch Doctor: Like Roni's own grandma, Adela is also a faith healer, and treats her for her eczema at times.
