The Waveborn Clan:

     Amendil
  • Fantastic Racism: Upon learning that Elwen's mother is a wood elf, Amendil grows quite angry.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: Amendil forbids Aluthol from following his dream of being a warrior, instead hoping he'll grow into the family business.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Amendil and Aluthol look very, very similar in appearance.
  • Tough Love: Even though Amendil raises his voice and punishes Aluthol, he does so out of genuine concern for his son.
  • The Patriarch: Amendil is the leader of the Waveborns, in charge of their mercantile ventures and father to Aluthol and Iduil.

     Aluthol
  • Action Dad: Aluthol becomes this after Elwen is born.
  • Action Hero: Aluthol is a celebrated warrior, who literally beats his inner demons along the way.
  • Allergic to Routine: Aluthol quickly goes stir-crazy when confined or stuck to a routine, often to great disaster.
  • The Atoner: Aluthol believes himself to be this, and strives to compensate for the bloodshed he's unleashed on the world in past years.
  • The Berserker: Aluthol's role within Rodrick's Raiders.
  • Big Ego, Hidden Depths: While Aluthol is confident, even braggardly at times, he has equally gentle and contemplative sides, and can even be downright paternal at times.
  • The Big Guy: Aluthol usually fulfills this role when travelling with others - and is hard to beat in this respect.
  • Blood Knight: Aluthol really, really likes killing people.
  • Brutal Honesty: Aluthol tends to say whatever's on his mind, even if it's not the most polite thing to say.
  • Chick Magnet: With his elven good looks and abundance of muscles, Aluthol attracts the attention of many women.
  • Commitment Issues: Aluthol struggles with the idea of settling down and abandoning the warrior life.
  • Emotional Bruiser: Aluthol's great at beating things up, but is far more complex than his enjoyment of warfare.
  • Emotionally Tongue-Tied: Though he may have emotional depths, Aluthol struggles to communicate them, especially to his loved ones.
  • King of Beasts: Aluthol has many lion motifs, from the Lord Mauler to eventually becoming a White Lion of Chrace.
  • Panicky Expectant Father: Aluthol goes through a version of this as he goes to meet his daughter for the first time.
  • Papa Wolf: Aluthol is fiercely protective of his daughter, despite his initial reservations about fatherhood.
  • Shoulders of Doom: Aluthol's silhouette is quite commanding, with his large shoulders only enhanced by the lion's pelt he wears.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: One of Aluthol's favorite hobbies is interrupting grandiose speeches.
  • Walking Armory: Aluthol is usually armed to the teeth, even when relaxing at home.

     Elwen
  • Bastard Angst: Elwen's illegitimate status causes her to be looked down upon, as well as her questionable heritage.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: Since a young age, Elwen has been trained to run screaming towards battle, rather than away from it. She does so with great glee.
  • Creepy Child: A six year old girl happily mutilating a corpse and playing with the blood? Definitely creepy.
  • Heroic Bastard: Aluthol never married Elwen's mother - in fact, he's not even sure what her name is. Elwen, however, is definitely a hero.
  • Lady of War: Rather than Aluthol's brute force, Elwen relies on speed and grace with her attacks.
  • Little Miss Badass: Young Elwen is quite tough and more than capable of dishing out an ass-kicking to a grown man.
  • Little Stowaway: When Aluthol is called away to war, Elwen stows away on the supply cart, hoping to catch a glimpse of battle.
  • Master Swordsman: Elwen is highly skilled with most weapons, but prefers a sword.
  • Meaningful Name: Elwen is named after the child Aluthol's friend would've had, and also means 'hope'.
  • Parental Abandonment: Elwen's mother left her at Arranoc, and it could be argued that Aluthol abandoned her as well - though he didn't know she existed at the time.
  • Past Experience Nightmare: As a girl, Elwen suffers from nightmares of the hunting dogs she feared at Arranoc.
  • Sweet Tooth: Elwen has a love of honeycakes, especially as a child.

Friends of Aluthol's:

     Melimme
  • Combat Medic: Melimme travels with Lord Sternspear's army to heal the wounded.
  • Consummate Professional: Melimme takes absolutely zero nonsense from anyone, especially Aluthol.
  • Healing Hands: Melimme's healing skill is enhanced by her magic.
  • White Magic: Melimme's healing magic comes from Isha, a benevolent elven goddess.
     Merovech
     Tielassae
  • Badly Battered Babysitter: How she is able to survive a young Elwen's insanity remains a mystery even to Aluthol.
  • Private Tutor: Tielassae is hired as Elwen's governess - not the first, nor the last.
