Main Trio

     Tughril Mahmut Pasha
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/334295.jpg
Voiced by: Ayumu Murase

  • Animal Motif: Golden eagle.
  • Character Development: From Wide-Eyed Idealist Ensign Newbie into someone more ruthless as befitting of a general.
  • Chaste Hero: One of his flaws, he is very nervous around women. Makes him more endearing, don't you think?
  • Chessmaster: How good he is? He managed to make resident city of Chessmasters to dance in his palm.
  • Child Prodigy
  • Child Soldiers: He started the series as a 16 years old general.
  • Four-Star Badass: He's the youngest Pasha in history and very skilled when it comes to martial arts, tactis and strategy.
  • Guile Hero: His main weapon along with good heart and ability to win anyone's friendship.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: He is blond and a pure-hearted hero.
  • Happily Adopted: By Halil Pasha after Tughril Clan Massacre.
  • I Just Want to Be You: Turns out that his disdain for Zaganos stemmed from his envy to the older man because of all he has done to the country, that (in his opinion) makes Zaganos able to stop the war while both he and Halil Pasha failed to do so.
  • Improbable Age: Promoted to a Pasha at the age of 16, something which is considered unusual even In-Universe.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: He's short and rather skinny for his age. It doesn't stop him from beheading his enemies with single swings each anyway.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: His compassion and mercy does not extend to Imperials, whom he has no qualms killing en masse.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Quite small if compared to another male casts, but, then again, he's a general hailed from a military country. The fact that he's able to gain that position alone should speak about his prowess.
  • Red Baron: 'Tughril', the Golden Eagle General.
  • Red Is Heroic: He mostly uses red clothing, and he's The Hero of the series.
  • Sole Survivor: Along with Suleyman Bey who was away at that time, he is this for his whole clan.
  • Teen Genius: Achieved rank of pasha at 17.
  • Thousand-Yard Stare: His eyes became unfocused and empty when he saw The Empire's troops carrying Halil Pasha's piked head marching to Chielo. He's staring through it long enough to made Cyrus worried.
  • To Be Lawful or Good: At second arc. He chose Good and paid it by (temporarily) demoted of rank Pasha.
  • Warrior Poet: Always brings a little book to write poetry, and sometimes likes to subtly describe his surrounding in a bundle of matter-in-fact, but nice-rhymed words.
Mahmut: The dancers sway and spin, the onlookers fill the plaza, the merchants sell their wares, the stage workers set off the fireworks, all the various night-workers rest during the day, all the various day-workers go out and play at night. In this way, people come together and a town is born.
    • Apparently, many people catch on this hobby of his, including Sultan Balaban, who then said this in Mahmut's visit to his castle:
Balaban: Mahmut Bey, I hear you have an interest in poetry. Next week, I'd like to introduce you at the Toplantu (poetry forum).

     Cyrus
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cyrus_char.jpg
Voiced by: Kenn

     Abiriga
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/334281.jpg
Voiced by: Jun'ichi Suwabe

  • The Ace: He's very good at a lot of things.
  • Battle Butler: Abiriga sees himself as Mahmut's battle butler. Mahmut, however, sees him as an equal.
  • Happily Adopted: By the Bregas.
  • Made a Slave: His back story. He was enslaved but ran into Captain Brega at the shipping port and attacked him. Captain Brega then bought him and made him his subordinate.
  • Made of Iron: A dislocated shoulder and crushed ribs can't stop him from killing Adam. Then he proceeded to ride a horse as if nothing ever happened.
  • The Mole: Spying Mahmut's movements for Venedik's council.
  • Perpetual Smiler
  • Professional Killer: Abiriga is more or less a ninja from Africa.
  • Renaissance Man: He's skilled at martial arts, sailing, drawing, and myriad of other skills.
  • Underestimating Badassery: He certainly didn't expect Adam of all people to give him much of a challenge.

Turkiye Stratocracy

     Zehir Zaganos Pasha
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/334278.jpg
Voiced by: Makoto Furukawa

  • Aloof Ally
  • Best Served Cold: Zaganos is not a Turkish by blood. His real name is Astolphe, and he's a son of Marquis Camus, a former Hermann of Balt-Rhein empire. He holds a deep grudge against the Empire for ruining his family and spearheads the campaign against the Empire to avenge the wrongs done to his family.
  • Chekhov's Skill: His Master Poisoner status which has been teased ever since the first chapter is finally shown during the siege of Muhr.
  • Did Not See That Coming: He sure as hell didn't see Leledrik's forces invading Turkiye instead of defending their own capital, and neither did Louis, who was completely in the dark as his rival in this course of action.
    • Happens again when, right before he's about to take the capital, Louis' has the bridges collapsed, causing his plan to fall apart.
  • Expy: His design and character are rather reminiscent of Lelouch, what's with him being a tall and darkly handsome genius former aristocrat who harbors a massive grudge to The Empire of his birthland.
  • Four-Star Badass
  • Hope Crusher: Called the Empire's star of despair by Louis.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He didn't become Turkiye's head of intelligence bureau for nothing folks.
  • Master Poisoner: Right at the nickname even.
  • Red Baron: 'Zehir', the Poisonous General.
  • The Spymaster: He is the one whom Suleyman, the Chief of Spies works to and gives direct order to his spies all over the continent.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: He is tall, brooding, and good looking. Need anymore explanation?
  • Teen Genius: Started his career at 14 and became a general at 19. He even planned his own ascension to Divan when he was 14.

     Sehir Halil Pasha
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/334282.jpg
Voiced by: Kenichi Ogata

  • Cool Old Guy: 12 years before story starts, he was the one leading the counterattack and won the war. He still leads at the front line, as seen in the South Rumeliana arc.
  • Didn't See That Coming: He didn't think that Pineau's troops would catch up to him, a grave miscalculation that ended his life and devastated his troops.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Lets Zaganos use Mahmut to do dirty jobs in order to make him develop into a better decision maker.
  • Graceful Loser: His reaction after his army was defeated and he himself got grievously wounded is to merely accepts it and praises Pineau.
  • Martial Pacifist: Sure he is a general but he was the one who lead his country to path of peace and trade.
  • Parental Substitute: To Mahmut.

     Kara Kanat Suleyman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_20201105_000738.jpg

  • Beard of Sorrow: Began growing stubble after Tughril Village massacre.
  • The Charmer: Quite good with people, especially the ladies.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: After Tughril Village massacre.
  • Perma-Stubble: Doesn't clean shave his facial hair. Justified, since he's always traveling.
  • Red Baron: 'Kara Kanat', the Black Wing.
  • The Spymaster: His job has been basically scout throughout the continent for willing informants.

     Shahra
Voiced by: Yōko Hikasa

     Şapka Ibrahim
Voiced by: Takuya Sato

  • Family Man
  • I Have Your Wife: The Empire takes his wife and children hostage to force him to allow an invading force to enter the stratocracy. Thankfully Mahmut manages to free them before is too late.

     Kurt Kurt Pasha
Voiced by: Subaru Kimura

     Mimar Zeki Pasha
  • Naked on Arrival: His first appearance consists of him ranting to Mahmud while standing buck naked inside a bath house. Thankfully the copious amounts of Censor Steam covered his important bits.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: He really doesn't enjoy his time working under Zaganos, that's for sure.
  • The Resenter: A mild one to Mahmud, since he perceives Mahmud as incapable to champion Halil's legacy thanks to Mahmud's lack of skill in architecture and civil engineering unlike Halil and himself. However Nurzan stated part of the reason is because Mahmud was the one who had avenged Halil pasha while Zeki was never given the chance to avenge his mentor. Of course, any resentment he feels for Mahmud is pretty much nothing compared to the one he has for Zaganos.

     Sanslar Nurzan Pasha

     Deve İlkay Pasha
  • Animal Motifs: Cemil likens him to a camel, being a dumb creature who nonetheless is very strong and with a very great skill at finding paths. Considering İlkay puts camels on his banner and nickname it seems that he embraces the nickname too.
  • Blood Knight: Is the one most eager to Duke it out with Balt-Rhein.
  • Boisterous Bruiser
  • Carpet of Virility: Has a very hairy chest.
  • Dumb Muscle: He's tall, muscular and the one most likely to charge blazing in. He also tends to be rather lost on the tactical and strategical aspects of war.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Cemil blue, being loud, rash, and boisterous.

     Atnal Cemil Pasha

The Four Sultanates

     Al-Kaplan Balaban
Voiced by: Kazuya Nakai

  • Ambiguously Gay: Is very touchy feely with Mahmud, has a habit of collecting pretty boys for his Jannisaries, and is unmarried despite being an adult king.
  • Cain and Abel: The Cain to Beyazit's Abel. Although sadly it is Beyazit who kills Balaban.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: Beyazit's.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: A prideful man, he's very conscious of the fact that he's not as loved by his vassals as his father. This is one of the reasons he's so bitter about Beyazit's betrayal, because Beyazit admits that he genuinely loves Balaban.
  • Macchiavelli Was Wrong: Balaban considers the most important aspect of a ruler is to be loved and bitterly notes that he isn't any good at it unlike his father.
  • Red Baron: 'Al-Kaplan', the Red Tiger.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red to his brother's Blue. It is even reflected in their color schemes, with Balaban having red hair and Beyazit wearing blue-tinted robes.
  • Teen Genius: He's an extremely capable general-tactician and a talented ruler. After inheriting Mızrak from his father and before he turns 25, Balaban has successfully mounted tax reforms and personnel cuts, disposed corrupt, bootlicking officials from his court and makes Mızrak more prosperous than even in his father's time. His vassals even voluntarily retired because they saw themselves as not being of much use for him as advisors.
  • The Starscream: He leads the sultans of the Four Stratocracies in their declaration for independence from Greater Turkiye and allies with the Empire.
  • We Used to Be Friends: He was very close to his younger brother Beyazit, but circumstances made them oppose each other.

     Ulema Beyazit
Voiced by: Kōki Uchiyama

  • Cain and Abel: The Abel to Balaban's Cain.
  • Cool Uncle: To his niece Ayşe.
  • Gentleman and a Scholar
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He's killed by Gralat in defense of Turkiye's capital, but not before sinking his stronghold underwater so that the Empire cannot accquire his weapons to attack Turkiye.
  • Killed Off for Real
  • Kill the Ones You Love: He is forced to kill his beloved brother Balaban when Balaban decides to betray Greater Turkiye and side with the Empire. This event continues to haunt him for the rest of the series.
  • Last of His Kind: Since Balaban leaves no child at his death, Beyazit is the last heir of the male line of the Mizrak ruling family. And the male line goes tragically extinct with Beyazit's death, as he remains unmarried at the time.
  • Red Baron: 'Ulema', the Scholar.
  • The Smart Guy: He's a scholar and has successfully remade a version of the riffle based on old texts. Later, he oversees the creation of cannons for Turkiye.
  • The Wise Prince
  • Together in Death: He is joined by the spirit of Balaban as he dies.
  • We Used to Be Friends: He was very close to his older brother Balaban, but circumstances made them oppose each other.
  • You Kill It, You Bought It: He becomes Mızrak's sultan after killing Balaban.

     Armut Ayşe
Voiced by: Ai Kayano

  • Arranged Marriage: With Orhan.
  • Incest Subtext: She has loved Beyazit from when she was a child. But being well-aware of her royal duties, she mostly keeps her feelings to herself and consents to marry Orhan.
  • Kill the Ones You Love: After Balaban's fall, she proposes the execution of her own mother, Sultan Fatima, for her collaboration with Balaban in rebelling against Turkiye even though it's clearly very painful for her to do so. Because Ayşe feels that since Beyazit and Orhan both had to kill a beloved family member to protect Turkiye, she can't bring herself to ask for mercy for her mother. Fatima's death is luckily averted at the end when Mahmut decides to let her retire from Sultan position and crown Ayşe's brother.
  • Lady of War: She can handle herself with a sword pretty well, and on more than one occasion has led her army in battle.
  • Politically-Active Princess: While only the daughter of the sultan of Balta, she's very involved in politics.
  • Red Baron: 'Armut', the Pear Princess.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something
  • The Stoic: She's not particularly emotional.

     Silâh Ismail
Voiced by: Nobuhiko Okamoto

  • Jerkass Has a Point: He's not wrong in thinking that showing weakness will make you lose political support, like it happened to his half-brother, who lost all his support after recovering from a severe cold.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: His father has about 77 sons and who knows how many daughters. Ismail himself was originally the 45th heir.
  • Red Baron: Silâh, meaning "Weapon".
  • Self-Made Orphan: Killed his own father. Unlike Orhan though, Ismail doesn't mind about it. At all.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Of the four sultan candidates, he's the most willing to usurp his father.

     Kiliç Orhan

  • Arranged Marriage: With Ayşe.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Normally a very timid man, but is more than capable to move if pressed.
  • Cowardly Lion: While generally nervous and shy, he's capable of manning up if it involves Ayşe.
  • Red Baron: Kiliç, The Prince of Swords. He's notably the only character who's titled after his homeland.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Killed his own father when he was trying to sell out Ayşe.

     Sultan Yüz-Maske Selim of Kiliç

  • Cool Mask: Even nicknamed as the 100 masks Sultan.
  • Puppet King: To Balaban, as Kiliç is far from the strongest country either militarily or economically.

     Sultan Yağ Uzun of Bıçak

  • Greed: His biggest flaw is his desire to enrich his country and himself at all costs, sometime to their long-term detriments.
  • Really Gets Around: He has a whooping 77 sons!
  • Didn't Think This Through: As Ismail pointed out, Sultan Uzun was planning to turn his country into a center of trade and to secede from Greater Turkiye at the same time, which means The Kingdom of Buchak wouldn't even have the necessary power to protect their newfound wealth had they succeeded.

     Sultan Nilüfer Fatma of Balta

  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: She had her eldest daughter at the age of 15.
  • Faking the Dead: Mahmud and co opts to fake her death rather than force her to commit suicide as they didn't want to make an enemy out of Fatma's son, the future Sultan of Balta.
  • Puppet King : To Balaban, as she relies on his protection to survive Balta's court.
  • She Is the King: Always referred to as the Sultan. Technically the actual Sultan was her husband who had been long dead. However since her son is still too young to lead she ruled in his stead.
  • Sole Survivor: Of the four original Sultans she's the only one who survived through the entire deal.

Balt-Rhein Empire

     Virgilio Louis
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/virgilio_louis.jpg
Voiced by: Kenjiro Tsuda

  • Ambition is Evil: Well, his ambition is turning The Empire to greatness by conquering as much land as possible.
  • Beard of Evil: More like a goatee. Still doesn't make him less evil, though.
  • Crazy-Prepared: He makes maps nearly of all locations in Rumeliana continent, recruit Rot Orm into his spy network and army's military engineers, considers all possibility and makes almost all of the plot.
  • Despotism Justifies the Means: When Turkiye is at the gates of the imperial capital he bluntly states that he doesn't care about what happens to the Empire, so long as he's ultimately the victor.
  • Dragon-in-Chief/Big Bad: His official position is prime minister but almost all plots are result of his machinations. In fact, Zaganos considered removing him from the capital to be the prerequisite to defeat the Empire.
  • Evil Chancellor: For his enemies. He admits that the empire he serves is an insatiable monster and will die if Empire doesn't keep conquering, but he doesn't plan to turn it to a better place instead.
  • Green and Mean: Has greenish hair, dresses in green and is a ruthless schemer.
  • Hauled Before A Senate Subcommittee: Later happened to Louis after Balt-Rhein's latest campaign stalled at Sud with most of their expeditionary force lost or killed.
  • The Heavy: Almost all plots are result of his machinations.
  • Lean and Mean: Might be explained by his habit of staying up all night reading maps.
  • Karma Houdini: Even though he was the main instigator of the war, and the one who directed the Empire's most brutal campaigns, for all his troubles, he gets away Scott free, as the Emperor becomes the scapegoat.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He convinced Araba tribe chief that Empire will back Araba's independence from Turkiye without any evidence.
  • Non-Action Guy: Despite him being the main drive behind the Empire's relentless expansionism, so far Louis himself had never personally fought in any battle.
  • Oh, Crap!: His reaction at witnessing Zaganos successful bombardment of Muhr's impregnable walls.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: Later it's revealed that he's the head of Louis Family, one of the Empire's biggest sponsors, meaning the Emperor is in no position to refuse his demands.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: After the Turks conquer the Baltic region, Mahmut states his hope that it and its people will be able to find their place under Turkish rule, ensuring an enduring peace. Louis, however, points out that for all his idealism, there are still fundamental differences between the two, which even all the boons in the world can't overcome, and that Turkiye's strong meritocracy runs the risk of overburdening the bureaucracy, which could lead to its own eventual collapse. For his own, Mahmut doesn't give an answer.
  • Spanner in the Works: Right as the Turks are about to capture the capital, Louis has the bridges collapsed, cutting the city off, forcing the Turks to make a clumsy retreat, and causing Zaganos' strategy to fall apart.
  • Undying Loyalty: Is loyal to the Empire and Emperor both, and all his actions were driven out of desire to bring the Empire to greatness. Even when he faced Zaganos face-to-face after being tricked by Balt-Rhein nobles and left for himself, he cared more with the fact that the Emperor was safe in St. Michael and thus convinced that was a victory for the Empire. Even after the capital falls, and he's offered a position in the new government, he bluntly refuses, refusing to hold allegiance to any other country.
  • Villainous Breakdown: When his final gambit to defeat the Turks fails, he devolves in desperate rambling, which General Androsch will have none of, and forcibly has him removed from the battlefield.
  • We Have Reserves: When informed the Empire lost 120,000 men on two campaigns, he basically answers "No problem, we can conscript 600,000 more."

     Duchess Leledrik
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/334292.jpg
Voiced by: Yuu Kobayashi

  • Altar Diplomacy: She married Count Meissner to win his support in saving the Empire. Of course, her idea of doing this is by killing her husband's two brothers and forced him to hand over the control of his knights at knifepoint to her.
  • Anti-Villain: Of the Well-Intentioned Extremist variety. Compared to Louis, her primary motivator isn't personal power, but to bring back resources for her people, who live in a rocky, cold waste in the Northern reaches of the Balt region.
  • Dark Action Girl: She leads Imperial's equivalent to Nordic Elite soldier.
  • Grim Up North: Her domain is coldest and poorest of all Empire's provinces.
  • Had to Be Sharp: As the quote below said:
Leledrik: Only the countries that have the resolution to be hated can manage to survive... huh?
  • Impossibly-Low Neckline: Favors these kinds of outfits even when she's going into battle.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: While it's pretty clear that she disliked the need to do so, when the Empire finally surrendered she also acquiesced after being mortally wounded by Mahmut, even though her forces were already besieging Altin and might even be able to take the city before Zaganos returned from Muhr. She argued that unlike Turkiye the Empire is centered too heavily on St. Michael and their Emperor, and any further bloodshed was unlikely to bring Turkiye to the bargaining table....
  • Kukris Are Kool : She likes to use her knives (that's suspiciously similar to kukri) in (so far) all of her fights with another characters.
  • No Guy Wants an Amazon: Emperor Goldbalt claims that if his niece Leledrik doesn't start acting more ladylike, then she'll never find a husband.
  • Plunder: One of her reasons to personally lead her Badass Crew to battles.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Emperor's niece, active whether militarily or diplomatically in a dark twist to bring more food to her poor Grim Up North region.
    • Later as the Turks are poised to inflict a final defeat on the Empire, Leledrik gathers the remaining forces, and successfully invades Turkiye, essentially giving the Empire one last chance.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: At her wedding day, she wore a Gorgeous Period Dress with her hair tied into a neat bun.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She's 6' (183 cm) tall and is definitely good-looking.
  • Took a Third Option: When she strong-arms her newly wedded husband into committing his 4000-strong calvary to her campaign, she's left with the option of trying to cross the mountains, or fight her way through the Turkish vassal states to get to the besieged capital. She does neither, and instead joins up with the 40,000-strong Sud army, and invades the lightly defended Turkish border.

     Gralat Berlurik
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gralat_color_manga.png
Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai

     General Corentin Pineau
Voiced by: Rikiya Koyama

  • Anti-Villain: His only evil is serving as a general in an expansionist empire whom the main characters oppose. Pineau himself is neither cruel or evil however, as he's also an honorable General who opposes his country's militaristic policies in favor of internal reforms. He still fights when he's ordered to, though he would at least do it as fairly and honorably as possible.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: Has this kind of dynamic with Eisenstein, which has way smaller build than his imposing one. Both of them have been friends since the previous king's reign, and both have the same desire to make the Empire prosper by doing internal reform.
  • Foil: To Halil Pasha. Both of them are the most highly regarded General of their respective countries who wishes to see their countries prosper through the path of peace and trade. However while Pineau is still struggling to make his dream a reality, Halil had succeeded in making Turkiye a prosperous country peacefully. Ironically, the reason why Halil succeeded where Pineau failed was because of Halil's victory in the previous war against Balt-Rhein gave him enough influence to steer the country to a more peaceful direction. Had Pineau won it's possible that their position would've been reversed. Even their appearance foiled each other, Halil being a short and jolly fat man while Pineau is a tall and muscular perpetual frowner.
  • Graceful Loser: When he realized that his siege ended up in failure, he calmly smiled and waited for Mahmut to end his life.
  • Hero Killer: He kills Halil Pasha during the siege of Chielo.
  • Large and in Charge: The Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Army is coincidentally one of their tallest man. At the very least he's the tallest man among Balt-Rhein's known generals.
  • Noble Demon: Doesn't approve of his men's deeds when they invaded Tughril Village. Even after they tried to reason with him, they got promptly executed.
  • Perpetual Frowner: His usual facial expression.
  • Worthy Opponent: Regards Turkiye in general and Halil in particular as this, after Halil's troops halted his invasion to Turkiye 13 years ago.

     Duke Eisenstein

     Admiral Ryan Law

  • Old Soldier: Old enough to be needing cane to get around. Doesn't stop him from leading at the front.
  • Only Sane Man: Probably the sanest man in the Imperial Navy if not the whole Empire.

     Johan Frentzen

  • Anti-Villain: While he's in conflict against the Protagonist's faction Johan himself is not a particularly villainous person.
  • Defiant to the End: Knowing he's going to die, he takes out Zaganos' bodyguards until he's cut down by Mahmut.
  • Gut Feeling: Noted to possess a very sharp instinct. During the attack on Cielo he managed to notice something wasn't right with the city. It was thanks to him that majority of the Imperial army didn't fall to the trap and burned to death.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: He considers working under Prime Minister Louis as this. An unpleasant thing to do, but necessary for the time being.
  • Internal Reformist: Joined the military for a chance to rise high and gains the power to help reform his country.
  • Killed Off for Real
  • Know When to Fold Them: When he finds out of Pineau's death, instead of trying to defend a losing position, he orders his troops to retreat back to the empire. Unfortunately the army is destroyed and he and Anton are killed by the pursuing Turks.
  • You Are in Command Now: After Pineau and most of his officers' deaths, he and Anton are forced to lead the remaining troops back to the empire.
  • Spanner in the Works: He still manages to give Zaganos the middle finger posthumously, when his remaining Sud army, led by his friend Dirk Wichter in Johan's name, joins Lelederik's Turkiye invasion campaign. Their addition is a significant boost to Leledrik's army, causing the Four Stratocracies' troops to be massively outnumbered.

     Anton Adam

  • Anti-Villain: Not an evil person at all. He only fights the Protagonists because their countries are in conflict.
  • Art Evolution: He was drawn with much greater details in his earlier appearance, giving him quite a sinister look. His later appearances tend to be less detailed, giving him a more cartoonish look.
  • Internal Reformist: Much like Johan, he joined the military to gain the power necessary to change the Empire.
  • Killed Off for Real
  • Two First Names: Anton and Adam can be used as first names.
  • Stout Strength: He maybe plump, but he's surprisingly agile, as Abiriga found out.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Johan.

     Dirk Wichter

  • Anti-Villain: Much like Pineau, Frentzen, and Adam, Wichter is also a member of Imperial anti-war faction. His only reason to fight Turkiye is to save his homeland and even then he takes great effort to ensure the war is fought as honorably as possible.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: He figures out most of Mahmud's traps simply by looking at the terrain and determines which places were most likely to be used as ambush points. Even Mahmud is grudgingly impressed.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Introduced as a regular officer under Frentzen. His importance to the plot rose much higher after his superiors' death and he was given command of the entire surviving Sud army.
  • Dragon-in-Chief: To Lelederik during the Imperial counter invasion of Turkiye. While Lelederik is the nominal leader of the 44,000 strong army, 40,000 of them are imperial soldiers who follow Wichter's command with the rest being Hermann knights Lelederik poached from her husband. She's aware of this fact, which is why she's always careful to avoid antagonizing Wichter and the Imperial army.
  • La Résistance: He's spared after the fall of the Empire, but doesn't take any new offices, and instead commits to expelling Turkish rule, along with a few other remaining officers and soldiers. That being said, he's somewhat conflicted upon witnessing the improvements the Balt region is experiencing since the fall of the old regime.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: During his assault on Turkiye, he prohibits the soldiers from attacking non-combatants, and allows them to leave unharmed. Unfortunately for him, Lelederik, who doesn't really care one way or another, doesn't do much to enforce this policy.
  • Spanner in the Works: He takes command of the Sud army and, together with Lelederik, marches the army into Turkiye, forcing the Turks to have to quickly alter their plans.
  • Take Up My Sword: As the highest ranking survivor, he's left to assume command of the last remaining Imperial army division in a last ditch attempt to save the Empire.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's rather difficult to talk about his role in the story without going into spoilers.
  • Worthy Opponent: During his first attempt to assault the Turkish capital, he manages to evade a couple of Mahmut's traps, causing Mahmut to silently praise him for his ability.
  • You Are in Command Now: After the deaths Johan and Anton, command of the Sud army falls to him.

     Lili Kokoschka
Voiced by: Mariya Ise

     Theo Androsch

  • Brutal Honesty: He has no qualms about telling the Hermanns they can't win against the Turks' cavalry on the open ground or telling Louis how his plan is very unreliable. He's proven right on both accounts.
  • Ignored Expert: As seems to be par the course in the Empire, his sound strategy to wait out the siege and let the Turks dash themselves to pieces against the Imperials' superior numbers is put down by the Emperor, who favors Louis' strategy.
  • Mandatory Unretirement: Had been retired for years before the series even began with The Empire dragging him back because no one else more suitable is left, though he also suspects that he was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief to be a mere puppet leader.
  • Retired Badass: Is pulled out of retirement after Pineau and Frentzen are both killed.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: After Louis' plan to defeat the Turks fails, Androsch refuses to listen to his desperate justification, and becomes the first Imperial to soundly put him down, and remove him from the battle.

     Jacques Jourdain
  • Blue Blood: He's a Marquis.
  • Defiant to the End: Rather than surrender he continues fighting even after the battle is lost, taking down some of Zaganos' bodyguards. Unfortunately Siegfried put a stop to that.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: His reaction when his friend and someone whom he regarded as the ideal hermann Siegfried stabbed him in the back.
  • In the Back: How he met his end, at the hands of his friend no less.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Is noticably shorter than his fellow hermanns. It doesn't affect his effectiveness as a warrior one bit.
  • Undying Loyalty: He's very loyal to the Empire. Although he's somewhat shaken by Zaganos' words and have some doubts in his heart regarding the whole affair in the end he chose to keep trusting the Empire.

     Siegfried Kauffman
  • Blue Blood: He's a Count.
  • Black Knight: He and the other knights who serve his house are all dressed in black armors.
  • Kick the Dog: After stabbing Jacques in the back, he cruelly mocks him for his devotion to the Empire.
  • Kill the Ones You Love: After Jacques refuses Zaganos' offer to surrender, Siegfried kills Jacques himself. Downplayed as he is shown to have absolutely no regret doing it.
  • Know When to Fold Them: He accepts Zaganos' offer to surrender.

     Tristan Baret
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Downplayed. He's spared after the fall of the Empire, and ends up serving as the foreman of a Turkish construction project in the Balt region. Though, it's implied that he's doing it less out of a sense of duty, and more out of obligation, as he glowers at Mahmut's party as they pass by. Not that he doesn't still put his full effort into the endeavor.
  • The Engineer: He's a member of the Red Orm organization in Balt, which is centered around the construction of weapons, and engineering.
  • Eyepatch of Power: He wears an eyepatch over his left eye, and is one of the high-ranking officers in the Imperial army.

Republic of Venedik

     Silvestro Brega
Voiced by: Kazuhiro Yamaji

     Doge Antonio Lucio
Voiced by: Daisuke Ono

  • The Chessmaster: For Venedik and Venedik is reputed as best Chessmaster in the region.
  • Cunning Like a Fox: King Zsigmond compares the opportunistic Doge Lucio to a fox, and the nickname sticks.
  • Manipulative Bastard: In Venedik side.
  • Older Than They Look: A 37 years old man that looks like he's still in his twenties. Compare him to Brega, who is 33 years old.
  • Perpetual Smiler: This is practically Doge Lucio's default facial expression. When it falters, something bad is about to happen.

Urabos Kingdom

     King Zsigmond III
Voiced by: Sho Hayami

  • Absurdly Youthful Father: His eldest daughter was born when he was only in his teens.
  • Cold Equation: The harsh climate of his kingdom means old people will walk out during the snow to spare their families more mouths to feed, most of them aren't found alive. King Zsigmond implies that sometimes even the Kings were not spared this fate.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: A guy with long dark hair, impressive mustache, a penchant for impaling people, and also happens to rule over an Überwald looking country? Pretty easy to guess who he's meant to be. Ironically, whereas Zsigmond is one of the Turks closest allies, the real Vlad Tepes had a deeply complicated relationship with the Ottomans, that ultimately resulted in a rebellion, that ended in his death.
  • Shoot the Messenger: He impaled the Empire's envoy to prove he's not double-dealing Turkiye. Cyrus suspects this would've been Mahmud's fate had Zsigmond chosen to side with Balt-Rhein.

     Princess Margitte
Voiced by: Megumi Han

  • Big Eater: One extra chapter shows her as quite a gourmet, a side effect of living in a poor country.
  • Overt Operative: She's a kulak for Turkiye, something which her father is fully aware of. According to Margitte as long as she continues gathering information for Urado her father doesn't care much about her methods.
  • Politically-Active Princess: She works as The Urado's ambassador to Turkiye and their kulak.
  • Princess Classic: She's beautiful, kind, and a daughter of a King.

Republic of L'isolani

     Doge Donatello d'Oria

  • Cavalry Betrayal: His fleet has no intention to rescue Amadeo at all.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Acts like a spineless, bumbling politician in public despite being a shrewd and ruthless stateman.
  • The Purge: He's implied to have used the Boccanegras insistence on allying with Balt-Rhein against Venedik as an excuse to purge them.
  • Xanatos Gambit: L'isolani's alliance with Balt-Rhein turned out to be this for him, as he would stand to gain the most no matter what happens. If Balt-Rhein triumphs then L'isolani would replace Venedik as the premier power in Centro. In the case where they're defeated? Well, he would simply blame the Boccanegras as the rogue element who had allied themselves with Balt-Rhein without his permission, giving him an excuse to purge the d'Oria's strongest rival and secure his own rulership.

     Amadeo Boccanegra

  • Child Prodigy: Already possessed the "sight" at the age of 5. Indeed, the other characters consider his talent to be truly exceptional even among L'isolanians who are well known to produce talented sailors.
  • Eye Scream: Someone slashed both of his eyes during the battle against Venedik
  • Insufferable Genius: He's a talented Captain and he knows it. He even mocks the Imperial sailors to their face as second-rates despite them being his allies.
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: Has a mouthful of shark-like teeth for some reason.
  • Smug Snake: The only one he treats with a modicum of respect is his uncle Roni. Everyone else, whether allies or enemies are simply "second rates".
  • Teen Genius: His talent is considered once-in-a-century.
  • The Scapegoat: Donatello blames him and the rest of the Boccanegras for colluding with the Empire.

     Roni Boccanegra

  • Taking the Bullet: To Amadeo, though in this case it was arrows rather than bullets. Of course, it only succeeds in prolonging Amadeo's life for a few minutes since Donatello killed him later anyway.

     Carvajal
Voiced by: Daisuke Namikawa

  • Good Is Not Soft: He's a very kind individual who always strives to help others no matter who. He also has no problem attempting to burn thousands of imperials to protect his city.
  • Killed Of For Real: At the very hands of the people he took in under his wings, no less.
  • Off with His Head!: How he met his end, at the hands of his people no less.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: His death is totally uncalled for, and is brought about in a series of tragic coincidences. The Chielo rebels takes him prisoner and tries to hand him over to the Empire when Chielo is sieged and their cavalry Halil Pasha is killed in battle, believing that their ally Venedik has abandoned them - not knowing that Venedik actually won the battle against the Empire on sea and was only held back from coming to their aid due to a storm. When the food supply runs dry and Mahmut appears to be losing his battle against Pineau's forces, he's publicly executed by the rebels who wants to negotiate for Chielo's peaceful surrender - not knowing that Mahmut obliterated Pineau's army, and was a day away from returning. In the end, his killers tries to bring Carvajal's head to the Empire's army, only to find them already retreating.

     Cassandra
Voiced by: Shizuka Itō

     Blanca

     Vasco
  • Spanner in the Works: The empire couldn't have foreseen a boy from one of the many cities they invaded had the blueprints for Cannons, and that he would gladly give them to the Turkiye to get revenge on the empire for killing his mentor and burning his city.
