Characters / Albedo The Role Playing Game Anthropomorphics

Go To

The main stars of both the game and the comic itself, the anthropomorphics (also named in-universe as Species) are humanoid living beings in the form of some terrestrial animal, created and placed by a mysterious race known as the Creators more than two centuries ago on the planet Arras Chanka for reasons only partially known to date. There are approximately 163 recognized species, including several subspecies divided into various groups, which are known by the taxidermic terms of which each species is known in real life. A special notoriety about this culture is that all anthropormorphs are either mammals or birds, and other species such as primates, cetaceans or cold-blooded beings do not exist in this universe.

General Tropes:

  • Animal Stereotypes: Played with them a lot: The game explains many of the stereotypes your anthro character can had, depending of the species your character belong, but it doesn't mean you have to comply with them. The main heroine Erma is a good example of this, as, while she fits with some stereotypes regarding cats (mainly Cats Are Snarkers), she avoids others like Cats Are Mean and especially Cats Hate Water (since personal hygiene is considered sacred in both her native Dornthant and other worlds).
  • Bizarre Alien Senses: Well, as alien as an anthropomorphic being can be compared with their non-sentient ancestors and humans, and also overlaps with Furry Reminder at times. Some critters retains some of their treats from their ancestors, like cats having excelent night vision, dogs having good smell, etc.
  • Expy: The anthros from Albedo, based what is explained in the comic and by also Word of God, are basically inspired on the Replicants from the Blade Runner franchise: Just like them, the anthros are artificial beings created by humans and just like their humanoid counterparts, they have a limited lifespan, through theirs are much longer, up to their 60s. The only difference is unlike Replicants, and while their behavior can be considered pretty alien for human standards, they are capable of empathy (or being psychopathic, when applied) from day one. Also, unlike their Blade Runner counterparts, the anthros are completely biological beings from head and toe, compared with the Replicants, who have artificial parts, making them alien beings for all practical effects.
  • Good Animals, Evil Animals: Normally averted, at least in canon, and sometimes is even inverted: There's no good or evil species, and even the ILR Lepines aren't depicted as much evil as they should be, but this trope could be played straight in-universe (or in any campaign) if needed.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Averted with extreme prejudice here. As stated by Word of God in the comic and also in the game, while any character can had sex with anyone regardless their species, they cannot had viable offspring, with two special exceptions (explained below) and only in the Platinum Catalyst version. The original RPG game avoids this since Gallacci worked closer with the creators of the game in a attempt to make sure they comply with this.
  • World of Mammals: And Avians too. As mentioned before, the only species that exists here are land mammals and birds. Any other different specied beyond this, like primates, aren't allowed, and that also include their distant relatives like lemurs and similar ones.

    Felines
Canon characters from this list: Erma Felna, her family, Dr. Elaki Kalahahaii, Tavas Ikalik, Alfon Voga, Oshiro, Shima, Nagai, the members of the House Ardehad, Aito Kho, etc.
One of the most numerous racial families for obvious reasons, as they were created by humans in the Earth, Felines are famous for their size and agility, not to mention for their fickle and independent personality in some cases.
  • Cats Are Snarkers: Depending of your character, you can play this trope straight or not, albeit some canon characters like Erma play it straight as canon in the comic.
  • Innate Night Vision: Just like their non-sentient relatives, Felines can see very well on dark without the need of night vision equipment, except in especific circunstances.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Just like Real Life, the only Felines that can had viable offspring are lions and tigers, (basically, a "liger") but even with this, this is very rare, and this racial feature is only valid in the Platinum Catalyst version.
  • Necessary Drawback: Larger Felines like lions or tigers are naturally strong and agile, but they cannot sustain continued physical effort due to Square-Cube Law.
  • Panthera Awesome: If you decide to play as a lion, a tiger or whatever bigger cat species.
    Caninesnote
Canon characters from this list: Onni and Kamara Hitzok, many of Col. Hitzok's aides, Auizotl the Third, Frieda Rangoon, Dru Clark, Lees Koschusko, etc.
The biggest racial family of the Albedo universe for the same reasons as Felines, this racial group is also one of the most versatile of all, since, like their non-sentient versions, they come in many sub-races and breeds. From these, dogs are notorious for being very sociable people, while wolves tend to be more aggressive, colder, calculating and they don't like to mix with their lesser cousins, albeit it's up to you if you want to follow this stereotype or not.
  • Dog Stereotype: It's up the players if they want to play any trope regarding dogs straight or not, albeit in the comic, dogs aren't portrayed as stupid in a egregious way. In the worst case, they could be simpletons or very nice people.
  • Noble Wolf: You can play as one if you want to, like Onni Hitzok, for a better example.
    Vulpines
Canon characters from this list: Dea-Htuhok Kho, Maria, Htuhak, Illnya Ludadpik, Prince Alfon Koshaka, his family and Jenna Shodi.
Despite being related with Canines, they form their own racial group and they cannot breed with them. Vulpines are notorious for being even more calculating than wolves and somewhat more inquisitive. They also notorious for being almost all good-looking people, just like their feral ancestors.
  • Cunning Like a Fox: In-universe, they retain this stereotype in a milder form, albeit most of the fox characters that appears in the Albedo universe, with some exceptions, tend to be very smart people by their own merits and not because their species.
  • Space Elves: Somewhat. Just like how foxes are portrayed in the Furry Fandom, their Albedo counterparts are considered as a very beautiful race, especially the females.
  • Super-Senses: In a way, as, if you decide to play a fennec, you can had an extra boost in your hearing sense compared with regular foxes.
    Rodentsnote
Canon characters from this list: Toki Zha, Toki Etona, the Danetti sniper and Captain Koreth.
Another numerous group, for very obvious reasons, Rodents are normally stereotyped as quite nice, warm people who normally prefer to stay out of danger rather than going to battle, albeit it doesn't prevent them to participate into fighting in somewhat more indirect roles, like vehicle crews and staff.
  • Desk Jockey: Most Rodent characters prefer to stay out of trouble and they rather work as one of these. Toki Zha is somewhat a partial example of this.
  • Explosive Breeder: Just like their feral ancestors, they're very fertile at ridiculous levels and is not unusual to see Rodent families with lots of children.
  • Really Get Around: Some notorious Rodents, like the ones from the planet Danet, from which Toki hails from, are (in)famous for being incredibly naughty and sensual, and they're not above into getting into orgies along themselves or with people from different species.
    Lepines
Canon characters from this list: All the citizens from the Independent Lepine Republic (ILR), Lady Damahannahaia and her daughter Temmanah.
Lepines are a very mixed bag in-universe: Thanks to the ILR and their atrocities during the First Lepine War, they are stereotyped as being racist, paranoic and psychotic assholes bent to eliminate anyone who is not a rabbit. The truth is more complex than that, as while the ILR is indeed a racist state bent into the conquer of the known space, not all the citizens agreed with this (or even care, when possible) and most of the worst stuff was done by their military forces, normally indoctrinated to do whatever their country wants to do. Other non-ILR Lepines, on the other hand, are normally depicted in a more neutral way, albeit some of them suffer from discrimination and racism due of the actions from their ILR cousins.
  • Always Chaotic Evil: The ILR is treated like this in-universe by the population of the ConFed and the EDF. In reality, the ILR itself is a more black-and-grey being. The Platinum Catalyst version, on the other hand, play this trope almost straight, much for the disgust of Word of God.
  • Explosive Breeder: Just like their ancestors and Rodents, Lepines are a very fecund race, but this trope is normally applied toward the ILR ones, rather than the whole race.
  • Fantastic Racism: ILR Lepines, at least the ones working for the military, are notorious for their genocidal racism against any non-Lepine, albeit even in this particular case not everyone seems to agreed with their policies of their own nation.
  • Killer Rabbit: The ILR military in most cases. You can play as one if you want to, regardless of the nationality of your character
  • A Nazi by Any Other Name: The ILR military is basically a mix of the United States, if the country was being ruled by the Ku Klux Klan, with Nazi Germany. The Platinum Catalyst version adds North Korea in the mix.
    Avians
Avians are the oddity in the Albedo universe due to their unusual anatomy: Unlike almost anyone else, they are some smaller than the rest of the species, excluding some Marsupials and Mustelids, and their bodies are invariably light, and as such, they cannot do too much heavy work. It doesn't help unlike their mammal cousins, they don't have hands, but wings, and evern with them they cannot fly, through these can help them to float better in zero-gravity conditions.
  • All There in the Manual: By Word of God, The Avians of the Albedo universe are viviparous, unlike their non-sentient ancestors. That means they don't need to lay eggs and they gave birth the old fashioned way like everyone else. On the other hand, the ones from the games do lay eggs like their ancestors.
  • Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: An odd aversion: Since they already have lots of feathers which works as both as clothing and protection, Avians rarely wear clothes other than jewlery or in the case they have to wander in the vacuum of outer space, an astronaut suit. Keep in mind by Word of God, the Albedo universe only had a very limited taboo toward nudity.
  • Toothy Bird: Oddly averted, as they don't have teeth, just like their feral ancestors, but it doesn't explain how they can talk without them.
    Ungulates
Canon characters from this list: Itzak Arrat & his family, Chinnah, etc.
Technically speaking, Ungulates are more a cluster of several species than a species itself, along them pigs, horses, sheeps, etc. This is because, like the Avians, but unlike other mammal-based species, the members of this group do not have humanoid hands or feet, but hooves, hence the name. This makes certain basic tasks, such as manipulating buttons or pulling gun triggers, more difficult for them than with other characters from other species.
  • Gag Penis: Some Ungulates, like Equines, share the same sexual characteristics from their non-sentient ancestors.
