The Green King

    Green Grandee

Green Grandee

The Invulnerable

The Green King, who has been around since the early days of the game and has seen four Chrome Disasters fall. Said to have the greatest "data pressure" of any of the Kings.

  • Attack Reflector: One of his abilities, Double Payback, lets him absorb all damage and knockback from an attack into his shield, before firing it back at double strength. There is an upper limit to how strong an attack it can reflect, but it's an extremely high one. Volume 18 reveals that a series of quick attacks counts as a single attack for the purpose of reflection, making it possible to overload the shield by repeatedly striking it before it can discharge.
  • Barrier Warrior: His "Distant Shield" technique creates a barrier resembling a translucent version of his shield, which can be used as a platform.
  • Expy: A prominent guild leader with a unique cross-shaped shield, famous for being a Stone Wall whose health has never fallen into the yellow? Sounds a lot like Heathcliff from the author's earlier work Sword Art Online, who made an identical boast. On learning how much Grandee knows about the origins of Brain Burst and how he actively maintains its economy, Haru even asks him if he's the creator of the game in disguise much like how Heathcliff was secretly the creator of Sword Art Online. This similarity is lampshaded in the game Accel World Vs Sword Art Online if Green Grandee fights Kirito.
  • Famed In-Story: As one of the veteran players of the game, he was known for extensive Solo Character Runs, accruing lots of Burst Points in the Unlimited Natural Field, and he can only lose on timed duels.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: He uses his enhanced armament The Strife to protect himself and avoid damage.
  • Named Weapons: His shield "The Strife", one of the Seven Arcs.
  • Painting the Frost on Windows: Why does the Unlimited Neutral Field have Piñata Enemies that don't just grant Burst Points for defeating them, but drop cards containing extra points? It's not a game mechanic - Green Grandee works tirelessly to farm points from strong Enemies and feed them to weaker ones, hoping that it will allow players to survive just by hunting them.
  • The Quiet One: Rarely speaks and often described as a silent person. He's so patient that he once waited in a single spot for three months of in-game time, hoping for a random event that would allow him to strike a blow at the Acceleration Research Society.
  • Red Baron: Known by the title "The Invulnerable" for having the highest defense in Brain Burst.
  • Stone Wall: As both the purest and highest-level example of the defense-focused green avatars, armed with both defense-enhancing Incarnate techniques and the strongest equippable shield in the game, it's very hard to damage him. The most a lot of players can do is Scratch Damage.
  • Wham Line: His answer for his reason behind hunting enemies, buying point cards and feeding them to enemies, enabling players to earn points without having to duel.
Grande: It was all to stop Brain Burst 2039- also known as Trial Number Two- from ending in vain.
  • The Worf Effect: Despite supposedly being the epitome of Stone Wall avatars, and claims early in the series that "his health has never fallen into the yellow", Legend-class Enemies like Metatron and Inti have attacks strong enough to completely vaporise him. Made more embarrassing when Snow Fairy tanks one of the same attacks without dying (albeit only through a technique with extreme drawbacks). In Inti's case, he at least preserves his dignity by taking the full brunt of its attack for a few seconds, allowing his squishier allies to get to safety.
  • World Tree: Due to his solemn, immobile nature, and how he seeds Enemies with item drops to prevent players from running out of points, he's referred to as "the tree that supports the world".

Executive Branch: The Six Armors

    Suntan Chafer (5th seat)

Suntan Chafer

Voiced by: Miyuki Kobori (Japanese), Faye Mata (English)
Fifth seat of Great Wall's Six Armors, a brown avatar themed after a beetle.
  • Animal-Themed Superbeing: Themed after a beetle.
  • Anime Chinese Girl: Dressed in a qipao and has a fighting style focused on palm strikes. Haru initially confuses her name for Chinese as well, and wonders how she managed to get one that wasn't in English.
  • Dual Mode Unit: In volume 22 it's revealed that she can transform into a beetle.
  • Vocal Dissonance: In her first appearance Haru describes Suntan as a "midsize avatar with [a] solidly built silhouette", and is surprised to hear her speak with a female voice. Oddly, from the next volume on she's described and drawn as an obvious Anime Chinese Girl.
  • Wall Crawl: Implied. Her hands can stick to enemies in the manner of an insect, though this doesn't seem to extend to her feet.

    Lignum Vitae (4th seat)

Lignum Vitae

Voiced by: Asuka Ogame (Japanese), Jessica Straus (English)
Fourth seat of Great Wall's Six Armors, resembling a slender woman in a cocktail dress and heels.
  • Dual Mode Unit: Can transform into a sturdy but immobile tree with the attack call "Carbon Cycle", and back with the call "Krebs Cycle".
  • Garden Garment: The artwork depicts her dress ending in multiple points like leaves or petals, along with arm covers which curl at the tips.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Her energy recharge ability takes the form of green light which flows through the ground to her ally. It's possible for enemies to steal the effect simply by standing in its path.
  • Plant Person: Her avatar's main theme.
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: Depicted this way in the artwork.
  • The Stoic: Described as having a similar air about her to Aqua Current.
  • Stone Wall: Named after the strongest type of wood, and appropriately has strong defence but little offence.
  • Support Party Member: Her parasol is versatile but not very strong, and her alternate mode is immobile but continuously recharges the special meters of allies in contact with the ground.
  • Telescoping Staff: Wields a wood-shafted parasol with a stone tip, which can extend in length to strike enemies or grab things. While its attack power isn't that great, it's a good defensive tool, with observers describing the way it opens and closes as "mesmerising".

    Iron Pound (3rd seat)

Iron Pound

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/accel_world_iron_pound.png
Voiced by: Naoya Nosaka (Japanese), Austin Lee Matthews (English)

The third seat of Great Wall's "Six Armors" - a boxer-themed Level 7 avatar who first appears in volume 9.

  • Boxing Battler: His avatar's main theme.
  • I Know Mortal Kombat: Inverted - his experience with actual boxing translates directly into the game.
  • Lightning Bruiser: His iron body makes him very durable, and he has the skill to move and attack at extreme speed.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: Has an Incarnate System ability which greatly increases his punching speed, mastered to such a high level that he doesn't need to call a name to activate it.
  • Red Baron: Also known as "Fists".
  • Reflexive Response: While his fighting instincts are formidable because they were shaped by boxing they can be thrown off by situations that aren't possible in a match (such as an opponent teleporting behind him and striking his back).
  • Rocket-Powered Weapon: His "Eruption Blow" appears to use rockets in his arms to perform a more powerful punch, though its only appearance in the books is Pound using it as a form of propulsion while in zero gravity.
  • Rocket Punch: His "Rocket Straight", which Haru notes as unusual for someone who claims to focus on raw skill over gimmicks. Reportedly an ability he developed as a counter for Sky Raker's Not Quite Flight.
  • Square Race, Round Class: Inverted - a trained boxer in the real world, his boxer-themed avatar allows him to bring his skills directly into the game, placing it in a rare category known as "Perfect Match".
  • Super-Toughness: Iron lies to the far right of the metallic colour spectrum, giving him great defense against physical attacks but little against status conditions.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Trained to defeat any new instances of Chrome Disaster by focusing only on his fundamentals, knowing that the Armor would be a sloppy fighter due to its nature as The Berserker and lacking experience in the powers of its past hosts. This proves so successful against a Disasterized Haru that the Armor is forced to loosen its control on him just to survive.

    Viridian Decurion (2nd seat)

Viridian Decurion

Voiced by: Kenji Yanagisawa (Japanese), Vic Mignogna (English)
Second (formerly first) seat of Great Wall's Six Armors, a large avatar themed after a Roman soldier with a gladius and round shield.
  • Achilles' Heel: His armor is weaker on the back than the front.
  • Baritone of Strength: Described as both speaking in a baritone voice, and being an obvious combat veteran.
  • In-Universe Nickname: Iron Pound calls him "Viri".
  • Knightly Sword and Shield: Of the Ancient Roman variety.
  • Enemy Summoner: His special attack "Viridian Legionnaire" shoots bolts of lightning from his sword which summon heavily-armored soldiers armed with lances and tower shields. Summoning four legionnaires consumes his entire special meter, but if he manages to recharge he can control up to eight at once.
  • Red Baron: Known as "The Consul".
  • Stone Wall: Aside from his sturdiness as a Green avatar, his fighting style is highly defensive, focused on wearing the opponent down and waiting for an opening. When the Legions need to put together a crack team of Master Swordsmen in book 25, Centaurea Sentry dismisses the idea of adding Decurion to the roster - saying that while skillful he's not very compatible with the swift One-Hit Kill strikes that their mission demands.

    ??? (1st seat)

Graphite Edge

First seat of Great Wall's Six Armors, said to be strong enough to curbstomp Viridian Decurion and even fight the Green King himself to a draw. Had never been seen by the lower-ranking Armors until the events of volume 17. Actually Graphite Edge, a former member of Nega Nebulus. See their section for more details.

Rough Valley Rollers

    Ash Roller

Rinta Kusakabe(?)/Ash Roller

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ash_roller.png
And that makes you....TERA UNLUCKY!!!
Voiced by: Kenichi Suzumura (Japanese), Ben Diskin (English)

A hammy player with a motorcycle Enhanced Armament. Silver Crow's first opponent, who goes on to become a recurring Friendly Rival and helps him out on a number of occasions. Child of Sky Raker, the original Submaster of Nega Nebulus.

  • Ambiguous Situation: It's unclear whether Ash Roller is the comatose Rinta Kusakabe, a copy of his mind, or just something generated in his image. Ash himself says he tries not to think too hard about it.
  • Badass Biker: Rides a western motorbike called "Night Rocker", which his entire fighting strategy revolves around.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He's highly protective of Rin, to the point at which when he gets infected by the ISS Kit, he'd be willing to be erased from Brain Burst entirely for the sake of his sister's well-being.
  • Cavalier Competitor: Downplayed example. As explained in book 23, the reason he always refused to learn the Incarnate System is because he was worried that such a Serious Business technique would take away his ability to enjoy Brain Burst simply as a game. What ultimately changed his mind was seeing Kuroyukihime's "Starburst Stream" and realising that Incarnate techniques can still have beauty and flair.
  • Cool Bike: Most of his avatar's potential is poured into upgrading his bike. Over the course of the series, it's gained abilities like missile launchers and the ability to drive up walls.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Invested in the ability to drive up walls after defeating Silver Crow the first time in case it was necessary. Much to Ash Roller's surprise, it was as necessary as the soon as their rematch.
  • Demonic Possession: His Enhanced Armament gets infected by an ISS kit in Volume 13. Since it's impossible to remove the kit the standard way, Ash wants someone to knock him off Brain Burst for Rin's sake.
  • Friendly Enemy: Despite being a member of a rival Legion, he's on fairly good terms with Haru and Sky Raker.
  • Friendly Rivalry: To Silver Crow.
  • Giving Someone the Pointer Finger: Ash Roller's other favorite gesture is Flipping the Bird.
  • Gratuitous English: He loves spouting random English phrases midsentence. Most notably his Catchphrase(s): "LUCKY!", "MEGA LUCKY!", "GIGA LUCKY!", etc.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: Combined with Spikes of Villainy, skulls, and a Cool Bike... Ash would fit in perfectly on a Heavy Metal album cover.
  • Homing Projectile: His bike missiles include cameras which they use to track enemies, though (at least in Battle Royale format) Ash needs to keep his own gaze locked on the target so that they can distinguish friend from foe.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: It's true he's a tough, crude biker who loves to fight and swear, but he's also a noble and friendly individual to those he respects. He's even willing to stop a match to encourage and help out his troubled rival or call out his duel partner for his dishonorable tactics and dickish behavior.
  • Large Ham: He yells just about everything at the top of his lungs.
  • Leitmotif: Monster Machine
  • Macross Missile Massacre: His attack "Howling Panhead" fires two ground-to-ground missiles from his bike, while "Flying Knucklehead" is an Anti-Air variety. He can activate the launchers even when his bike isn't nearby, allowing him to place it somewhere inaccessible to serve as a turret. While teamed up with his guildmate Lignum Vitae, he can use her Regenerating Mana to fire these attacks continuously.
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor: When in the duel arena he likes to boast about his strength and Trash Talk his opponents in the manner of a pro wrestler, and has earned some popularity for how he always tries to make his fights entertaining to watch.
  • Motorcycle on the Coast Road: With Silver Crow in the second opening.
  • My Sister Is Off-Limits: When Haru calls him by Rin's first name, Ash Roller gets furious at the possibility of Haru being in a relationship with Rin. He does encourage him to be friends with Rin, but only friends.
  • Pet the Dog: When Haru is too depressed to fight after losing his wings, he actually stops the match to try to encourage him, and later takes him to meet Sky Raker.
  • Quit Your Whining: When Haru is depressed over losing his wings, Ash says that he didn't let Haru managing to completely negate his bike's effectiveness in their second match get to him.
  • Rebel Relaxation: Up a Cool Bike, no less.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: He and his sister are almost polar opposites in terms of personality and temperament.
  • SI Prefix Name: Ash Roller refers to luck in SI prefix terms. He generally calls people "Mega" or "Giga" Lucky/Unlucky but those in particularly unfortunate circumstances might be referred to as "Tera-Unlucky".
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Sometimes Played for Laughs with a Sound-Effect Bleep.
  • Skull for a Head: His avatar has a skull for a face, possibly inspired by Ghost Rider. In later books he sometimes removes his helmet when he needs to talk seriously, and without it he's described as looking surprisingly young and bookish.
  • Wall Crawl: The bike can run up walls.
  • You Called Me "X"; It Must Be Serious: He calls Haruyuki by his real name when asking him to be friends with his sister so that she'll have good memories outside the Accelerated World once Ash Roller is gone.

    Rin Kusakabe

Rin Kusakabe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rin_kusakabe.png
Voiced by: Yuuka Nanri (Japanese), ? (English)

A Burst Linker and the child of Fuuko "Sky Raker" Kurasaki. In addition to her own Neurolinker, she is capable of using the Neurolinker that was keyed to the brain of her brother Rinta.

  • Early-Bird Cameo: She appears near the end of the anime's first season, and in the second OVA, where she's quite nervous around Haruyukinote , and seems acquainted with Fuuko. There's also a shot of her running by Haru's bus just before Haru duels Ash Roller in Episode 15.
  • Family Theme Naming: Her name is Rin and her brother is Rinta.
  • Foreshadowing: The way Rin sometimes describes her memories of Brain Burst as fuzzy hints that the game can't erase players' memories of its existence - rather those memories were never stored in the player's brain in the first place, and are only accessible through their connection to the server.
  • Monster Brother, Cutie Sister: Her brother is a loud and brash Jerk with a Heart of Gold, while she's a shy, timid Nice Girl.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Played with. Rin is technically the real identity of Ash Roller, but her Duel Avatar is controlled by her comatose brother Rinta (or possibly a copy of his mind).
  • Shrinking Violet: She's a shy girl with self-esteem problems.
  • Split Personality: Invoked in book 23, when "Ash" is invited to a virtual conference outside of Brain Burst - Rin is unable to explain who she is without getting into real-life circumstances, so she asks people who knew her brother to "think of it like two personalities", promising to explain properly later. Most people present seem to take this as just Ash being her edgy internet persona. Ash himself admits that there's no proof he's not a split personality, though it's implied that something more is at work.
  • Two Siblings In One: Her situation is basically a sci-fi take on "channelling the ghost of a dead relative". Her brother Rinta was injured in a motorcycle accident shortly after downloading Brain Burst, falling into a coma, which lead Rin to join the game in his stead as Ash Roller. However, whenever she enters Brain Burst she loses consciousness and another mind takes over the Ash Roller avatar, who is probably her brother in some shape or form.
  • Verbal Tic: She often. Speaks. In short. Sentences.
  • Walking Spoiler: She's very difficult to talk about without spoiling Ash Roller's true nature.
  • Wham Line: "I'm. Ash. Roller."

    Bush Utan

Bush Utan

A level 5 avatar themed after an orangutan, with a squat body and huge powerful arms. Looks up to his "bro" Ash Roller.

    Olive Grab

Olive Grab

  • Action Bomb: His "Sacrificed Nectar" move causes his slender body and limbs to swell into olives and explode, showering nearby allies in oil which fully recharges their special attack meters. After using this move, Grab is still alive but reduced to a defenceless head.
  • Elemental Shapeshifter: His "Lipid Liquid" ability lets him transform into a puddle of oil.
  • Psycho Serum: Another Burst Linker corrupted by the ISS Kit.

Alternative Title(s): Accel World Green Legion
