     Takeo Chiba
"Water Release: Cloying Bog!"
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/takeo.png
Art by Mynori

  • 100% Heroism Rating: By the time he comes back from the Ame delegation, everyone in Konoha either respects, likes, or loves Takeo Chiba.
  • The Ace: Konoha’s latest generation of shinobi are known as the Golden Generation for how they dominated in the Chunin Exams and showed off spectacular skills. What is Takeo known as? The Greatest of the Golden Generation.
Greatest of the Golden Generation: All future skill gains +20%, General Reputation Boost, +10 to social rolls involving Konoha ninja from your age group (within 5 years difference), The Hokage regards you warmly, Income Boost, Advancement Fast Tracks available, More available training options and teachers.
  • Affectionate Nickname:
    • Temari occasionally calls him waterboy.
    • Baketsu always calls him captain.
  • The Apprentice: He was Sugishi’s full-time apprentice for a while, even traveling with her to the Ame border as he learned from her and continued missions.
  • Asleep for Days: Takeo sleeps for just under 2 days after taking a soldier pill to fight against the Ame defectors.
  • Child Prodigy: During his time at the Academy, Takeo’s teachers note about his success, saying he’s an exceptional shinobi, a generational genius, and a prodigy. Before he was even a genin, he had already learned 3 Water Releases, mastered the Body Flicker, and learned how to walk on water and trees.
  • Comeback Mechanic: Comeback Kid, which means Takeo gets a small bonus every time he loses a round, and keeps growing every round he loses and isn’t defeated. It does get reset if he wins two rounds in a row.
Comeback Kid: You're a sturdy lad, capable of weathering your opponents worst before striking back with fury. You add +5 to your combat rolls every time you lose a round. Counter resets after two consecutive wins.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: Takeo's exceptionally well-suited to dealing with the pains and horrors of shinobi life.
    • He tears through the Ame hospital, killing the enemy shinobi without hesitation. He only takes care to not step on anything too squishy. This does not, however, stop him from being able to sympathize with those who aren't.
    • He is not phased at all by the mutated fish abominations that surrounded the outskirts of Otogakure. With Hige, he was able to find them before they could ambush him and was unimpressed if they were meant to rely on shock value.
  • Demolitions Expert: Takeo is exceptional when it comes to Kayakujutsu and is especially good at destroying structures. He came up with a plan to blow up an Ame bridge using explosive tags that had a Genjutsu-based trigger. We’d show you the aftermath, but nothing was remaining.
Demoman: There's not a structure you can't level. All you need is enough explosives and some prep time. Now where'd you put that one with the shorter timer? +20 on structure demolition.
  • Determinator: Takeo has the mindset to never give up, whether that be training or completing a mission. He will do what is needed to get the job done or die trying. Resolves himself after his operational security lesson.
No matter what, do not break: You will do as you did today. You will try to find a way out and if you can’t find one, you will remain silent until the end. Should it ever come to it, you’d rather die than give anything away.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Takeo is almost always able to keep a cool head on his shoulders, even in high-stress situations. This can be quite disturbing to outside viewers, as seen by Naomi when she spikes her Killing Intent as high as she can while in a casual conversation with the soon-to-be Numanin, only for him to not visibly react in any way whatsoever and continue their conversation without missing a beat.
Takeo: When the mission allows for it, I agree [that leaving no witnesses helps maintain anonymity]. But when simply exterminating all witnesses isn't an option, I'm rather fond of a good disguise myself.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: Takeo has the ability to create multiple Water clones, with his biggest showing being his 'Water Release: Water Clones, Army of Me' jutsu, where he summons a dozen of them to attack.
  • Feel No Pain: Downplayed, to determine Takeo’s pain threshold, Dave rolled for it out of 100. The result was 94.
Pain tolerance: You feel pain, really, you do! You just kind of don't see what the big deal is everyone makes about it.
  • Field Promotion: Takeo receives a long overdue promotion to jonin after the Fourth Shinobi War begins and he is tasked with joining the assault on Otogakure.
  • First Friend:
    • He was Umeni’s first friend, all the way since the Academy. After approaching her sitting alone, he simply introduced himself and asked if she wanted to eat lunch together.
    • He was also Gaara’s first friend. When Takeo first arrived in Suna, he had no idea about Gaara or his violent past, so he treated him fairly, something the Suna-nin didn’t understand. Over time, after the two kept in correspondence, Gaara realized Takeo was his friend.
  • Flash Step: He is very proficient in the usage of the Body Flicker, even able to use it more prominently than others. For extra appeal, Takeo doesn’t leave any visible sign when he uses it.
  • Friendly Rivalry: He and Lee enjoy hanging out as much as they do challenging each other. It helps that whenever they are hanging out, it usually is mostly them physically competing.
  • From Zero to Hero: He was initially written off as a first-generation ninja meant to fill the ranks. Nobody expected him to rise up and become the elite shinobi he is now.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Takeo is a pretty cordial guy who is always happy to help a friend. He also has no qualms about killing someone who means to hurt Konoha or its people.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Tobirama Senju is his favorite Hokage, and notes that Lord Second’s mastery of Water Release, as well as his devotion and loyalty to Konoha, is inspirational to him.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Takeo reasons to Team 7 that between the safety of his team and the life of an enemy that attacked him, killing the missing-nin wasn’t a hard decision.
  • I Got Bigger: After reuniting with Sugishi after the treaty signing with Ame, Takeo notes he's now almost at eye level with his sensei.
  • It Gets Easier: Averted. Takeo had no trouble dealing with his first kill, a missing-nin who ambushed his team.
  • Janitor Impersonation Infiltration: How he manages to sneak into Ame’s Ninja Academy.
  • Jumped at the Call: Before the Hokage can even ask if Takeo will join the Jonin Bootcamp program, he’s already saying he’ll do whatever is needed.
  • Love Triangle: He is in one with Temari and Sakura, the two of whom are both fighting for his affection. It’s resolved when, after the two girls meet, they are just as into each other as they are into Takeo.
  • Made of Iron: Takeo’s most defining physical characteristic is his endurance. He is able to withstand punishment and get up for more.
    • At age 12, he competed against Lee in push-ups and completed 900 in only half an hour. The only reason they didn’t go longer was cause they didn’t want to miss dinner.
    • Has consistently taken Dynamic Entry's and Lotus' from Rock Lee and remained standing.
    • Fought Temari and Lee in the Chunin Exams without getting healed in between. The wounds he received from his two opponents included a cut open back and broken ribs.
    • Consistently suffered through Taru’s training, which was noted to involve him repeatedly getting beaten, choked out, and drowned. He accepted and it became part of his regiment.
    • He recovered from a combination of chakra exhaustion and consuming a soldier pill a day earlier than estimated.
    • He ran for 48 hours nonstop carrying an injured Shino to Konoha. When he arrives, he notes that he still has enough energy to do it again if needed.
  • Making a Splash: Takeo’s affinity is Water Release, and he is working to be a Ninjutsu specialist with many techniques, some of which are of his own making.
  • Master of Disguise: He has a naturally trustworthy face, making it easy for him to play a role and perform undercover work.
Trustworthy Face: You just have one of those faces. +10 on stealth, +20 on undercover work.
  • Meaningful Name: His name roughly translates to 'Thousand Leaf Valiant Warrior'.
  • No-Sell:
  • Not Afraid to Die: He’s at peace with the idea of dying in the war, though he will do whatever it takes to avoid such an outcome.
  • Oblivious to Love: Takeo has a hard time telling when others are into him. When Ino sent him a glamorous picture of herself to Takeo while he was away at the Ame border, he thought that it was a nice photo and hoped to get pictures of his other friends. He was also unaware of Temari or Umeni’s feelings until they made them known. He also can’t figure out that Totagi is crushing on him, even as Suro and Kugi kept dropping hints right in front of him. This only makes his Romantic Wingman tendencies more ironic, being able to sense and help others with love but never truly figuring out those who love him back. Needing to have a strong-willed or direct approach to finally get Takeo to notice you. Reflected in that Totagi and Umeni never really got a chance, as the former kept constantly toeing the line and waiting, never truly going in for the kill. And the other was constantly anxious and self-doubting. Compared to both Sakura and Temari, who seized the opportunity by the throat.
  • Only a Flesh Wound: Compares having his back slashed open by Temari’s Wind Release to a papercut.
  • Patriotic Fervor: Takeo is a true believer in the Will of Fire and has a love for Konoha and being a shinobi for his village. To put it in perspective, he had a bigger issue over removing his forehead protector, the physical symbol of his service to Konoha, than he did with flooding a mine full of civilians.
  • Power Copying: While not as ridiculous as an Uchiha, several of Takeo's techniques have been developed from only observing said technique in action once, with him having immediately learned his first Raiton solely from having it performed on him. Takeo is such a quick study that he works incredibly well under Kakashi's hands-off tutelage, regularly thinking to himself that the man is a superb teacher, a claim that the students of Team 7 vehemently deny.
  • Precious Photo: More like a precious gallery. The competition between Sakura and Temari for Takeo’s affection has left the man with a selection to choose from.
  • Prone to Tears: When he was a newborn, Takeo’s cries outlasted all the other infants. It got to the point that his father had to fashion earplugs for himself and his wife.
  • Razor Wind: Takeo’s third Nature Release is Wind, and was personally offered training from Danzo to learn his own personal Hiden, The Vacuum Release. Takeo, of course, accepted.
  • Red Baron: The Numanin.note
  • Red Is Heroic: Has dark red hair and a good heart.
  • Redhead In Green: After he becomes a chunin, his new vest gives him this look.
  • Regenerating Mana: Takeo’s chakra reserves naturally recharge faster than normal and he doesn’t suffer as badly from chakra exhaustion as other shinobi.
Leave it Running: Your chakra recharges faster than normal. Where chakra exhaustion is something that will leave others drained and bedridden for days on end, your own recuperation time is far less severe.
  • Romantic Wingman: Made Ironic by being fairly oblivious, see Oblivious to Love above.
    • He unintentionally bolsters Hoheto and Kurenai's relationship when he offhandedly mentions that, following the two Jounin's first date, his sensei has been in an uncharacteristically good mood lately.
    • He managed to hook up Kakashi with Manami Isa after leading the conversation into Manami demonstrating to Kakashi her skills.
    • He gets Temari and Sakura to make out after he notices that both of them are into each other.
  • Rugged Scar: Has an eyebrow scar over his left eye that has yet to be explained.
  • Shock and Awe: Takeo’s second Nature Release is Lightning, and has learned a fair amount from Kakashi and has even developed a Ninjutsu to call down lightning from a distance, Lightning Rod Sensor.
  • Signature Move: The Cloying Bog, Takeo’s first Ninjutsu of his own design, is this. Takeo creates a mist to cover the battlefield that obscures the foe's view and hinders their combat prowess, whilst allowing him to track them beyond what mere visual tracking would allow.
  • Smart People Play Chess: Or shogi in this case. One of Takeo’s most frequent pastimes is playing shogi, even being able to match Shikamaru.
Shogi General: +10 to shogi rolls and a +5 to tactics rolls.
  • Sociopathic Hero: Played With. Takeo is hardly fazed by the hardships and horrors that come with being a shinobi. He is able to kill enemies without remorse and never feels stressed afterward. Multiple shinobi have found it to be unusual for Takeo to be so well-adjusted in this, especially for someone who is civilian born. Dave has said that should Takeo keep following this path, this trope can be played straight.
Groomed for Slaughter II: Konoha has bred you well. You're exceptionally well-suited to dealing with the pains and horrors of shinobi life. More resistant to mission-related stress and pain. (This can evolve.)
  • Sticky Situation: Loves to put people in these with the use of Syrup Field.
  • Summon Magic: As a signer of the otter contract, he can call upon his own personal summons to help him.
  • Surpassed the Teacher: Takeo has actually surpassed a number of his teachers over time. He is arguably more skilled than Hoheto, he has mastered every technique Sugishi has instructed him in, and he has learned everything Ebisu is capable of teaching him. Each and every one of said teachers is amazingly proud of him and his accomplishments.
  • Talented, but Trained: Takeo believes that no matter how far he’s come, he can always go further beyond. So he trains as hard as he can every day to be the best shinobi he can become.
Takeo: I have the potential to be skilled, to be strong, to be great even. I owe it to myself to push towards my limits. Not to give up, but to work hard, to learn, to strive towards the limits of what I can be. That way, no matter what happens in the future, I can be confident that I've done everything within my power to be the best I can be.
  • Taught by Experience: Takeo defines himself as a practical worker, and finds learning skills easier if he gets to experience them firsthand.
  • This Is for Emphasis, Bitch!: After Sakura gets taken out of the spar against Hanzo, his anger comes out when he tracks Hanzo through the Cloying Bog.
    Takeo: Got you, bitch!
  • Worthy Opponent: To Hanzo the Salamander. He commends Takeo after the Konoha-nin wins their spar, saying that he will never forget him. Hanzo finishes this by naming him Numanin, a title made into a trait after having completed a feat worthy of an S-Rank Ninja.
Numanin: The Bog Ninja. At 14 years old, you faced and defeated Hanzo the Salamander in a spar witnessed by two Kages and some of Amegakure's elites. You called upon a boss summon and showcased multiple techniques of your own creation. You face S-rank threats without flinching. 1 reroll whenever you fight an S-rank opponent.
  • Would Harm a Senior: Just ask Hanzo, Kakuzu, or Onoki.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He casually takes part in the killing of two Ame genin teams, one in the Konoha Chunin Exams and the other at Gomanouchi Village. Justified in that they were enemy shinobi.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: If his finishing moves on Sutsu or a drunken Rock Lee mean anything, Takeo loves to give a good suplex.
  • Young Entrepreneur: Takeo took the opportunity to buy the land of a destroyed building when it was presented to him. He plans to build a karaoke bar to live in and make income for himself outside of missions.

     Suro Etsuyomi
"Don’t care about your bootcamp shit, kicking your ass when I get back!"
  • Action Girl: Has a love of taijutsu and fighting in general.
  • Badass Boast: Gives one the moment Team 24 is announced.
Suro: YES! IN YOUR FACE LOSERS! SOMEBODY SEND A MESSENGER TO IWA THAT THEY HAD BETTER SURRENDER UNCONDITIONALLY RIGHT NOW BECAUSE WE’RE GOING TO KICK ALL OF THE ASS!
  • Blow You Away: She picked up a few Wind Release moves while she was on patrol duty.
  • Broken Tears: After Totagi’s injury and beating up Takeo, Suro lets her emotions catch up with her and breaks down in sobs. Only after Takeo gives her a needed hug does this calm her down.
  • Canine Companion: Suro has her own ninken named Taeko.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Suro happens to know plenty of Earth Release Jutsus.
  • Half-Breed Discrimination: Her father is from Kumo, and she sometimes talks about the issues she faces from her lineage and living in Konoha.
  • Hot-Blooded: Is the loudest and proudest of the team and loves a good fight. Her being put on guard duty on the Hot Springs border, the laxest one, has her disappointed.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Was always trying to keep up with Takeo and challenge him to a proper spar. With him fighting both Hanzo and Kakuzu, Suro says she's gonna try a different pursuit.
Suro: Fuck it, we're not sparring again. I'm finding something else to beat you in.
  • Moment of Weakness: After Totagi is taken to Suna to treat her wounds, an emotional Suro vents out her frustration by beating up Takeo, to which she is immediately regretful.
  • New Skill as Reward: For beating Naruto in Suna's Chunin Exam, in which she had a severe disadvantage, she was given the trait Foxcatcher.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Suro is the most foul-mouthed out of the entire team. Even during the Academy she never bothered to hide her profanity.
  • Spontaneous Choreography: Breaks into an impromptu dance made out of taijutsu strikes as she gives her Badass Boast.
  • Weapon Specialization: Learned to wield a one-handed kanabo during her patrol duty that she handles as easily as a toothpick.

     Totagi Kaneze
"Don't you dare get hurt when I'm not around to fix you up!"
  • Anywhere but Their Lips: Totagi tends to give Takeo a kiss on the cheek whenever she wants to fluster him, such as when they return to Konoha after their first stay in Suna or after she tricks Takeo with her fake crying.
  • The Apprentice: She was studying under Shizune, but is now studying under Tsunade after impressing her.
  • Book Smart: She is the most studious of the team, and always encourages the others of Team 24 to study with her.
  • Crocodile Tears: When Takeo accidentally says that their collective study sessions aren’t fun, Totagi apparently breaks into tears and asks if they’re even friends instead of just teammates. After Takeo explicitly states he enjoys being with her and that studying is a bonus, she immediately stops crying and starts teasing Takeo about how he loves spending time with her.
  • Helpless with Laughter: She has her face in her hands and is unable to stop laughing during Suro's outburst when Team 24 is formed.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Unfortunately for her, Takeo is already in a relationship.
  • Kid Has a Point: She gets into an argument with Tsunade when they encounter a poisonous mist, yelling at each other over how dangerous it is, with Totagi arguing it is much worse than Tsunade thinks. It takes Tsunade diagnosing the poison to admit that Totagi was right.
  • The Medic: Studied medical Ninjutsu as early as the Academy and is currently apprenticed to Shizune.
  • Open Secret: Both Suro and Kugi are aware of her crush on Takeo, much to her chagrin.
  • Playing with Fire: Has a Fire Release affinity.
  • Plucky Girl: Despite any setbacks, whether that be hospitalizations or losses in fights, Totagi always remains upbeat and cheerful.
  • The Rival: To Sakura, due to the many similarities they have. During their time in the Academy, they were the two smartest girls who would always raise their hand to answer each question first as well as both having an interest in medical training. Both are also attracted to Takeo. She even bonds with Ino over their shared rivalry with Sakura.
  • Sensing You Are Outmatched: She stands back as The Medic during the assault on Otogakure for Takeo, Neji and Sasuke, knowing that they are better suited for attacking the enemy shinobi and mutants.
  • Sensor Character: Has a nascent talent for sensing.
  • Team Mom: Does her best to look after Suro and Takeo, whether that's healing them when they’re injured or having the two keep up on their studies.

     Hoheto Hyuuga
"Normally, a student ends up indebted to their sensei. In our case, it feels as though that goes both ways."
  • Ascended Extra: Hoheto in canon is a minor character who only appeared for a single arc in Shippuden. Here, he's the jonin sensei of Team 24.
  • Badass Teacher: Hoheto has the skill set to become a jonin-sensei, is a master of the Gentle Fist, and knows multiple Fire and Earth Release jutsus.
  • Failed a Spot Check: During Team 24’s first C-rank, Hoheto was distracted during the missing-nin ambush and did not have the Byakugan activated.
  • Not So Stoic: While normally he shows little emotion, there are times when his mood peaks through his stoicism. When Team 24 is announced, he can’t quite hide his amusement from Suro’s antics. He's also in a noticeably better mood whenever he’s around Kurenai.
  • Official Couple: With Kurenai.
  • So Proud of You: He gives a speech to the original Team 24 after they all become chunin that expresses his pride for the three and how they surpassed all his expectations.
Hoheto: When I became a jonin-sensei, I thought I was making a commitment that would ideally last for years. Instead, after less than one-and-a-half, we are disbanding. Had I been told so at the time, I would have assumed the reason for dissolution to be a sad one. Never would I have expected that all three of my genin would make chunin in such short order, ready to move out and contribute to Konoha in new ways. The three of you fill me with pride. Know that I will remain available to you both as a teacher and as a friend, you need only seek me out.

Otter Summons

     Baketsu Yi
"Baketsu Yi, is me!"
  • The Baby of the Bunch: The youngest of Takeo's otter summons seen so far, and much of his interactions with the others are them treating Baketsu like a pup. Doesn't help that two of them are his grandparents.
  • Badasses Wear Bandanas: Wears a red bandana at all times.
  • Bash Brothers: Him and Takeo. Throughout the final part of Konoha’s Chunin Exams, the two fought and defeated all of their opponents, winning the entire event.
  • Coordinated Clothes: At the suggestion of Ino, Baketsu sports a matching chunin jacket with Takeo.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Totagi, Suro, and Ino love to spoil Baketsu with scratches, hugs, and kisses.
  • I Got Bigger: The otter was originally the size of a medium dog. Over the course of the story, Baketsu grew to be the same size as Takeo and is now reaching the size of Gama.
  • Making a Splash: Specializes in Water Release and has learned all of Takeo’s known Water Releases.
  • Playful Otter: Baketsu is the friendliest out of all of Takeo's summons.
  • The Power of Friendship: To symbolize their great cooperation, Baketsu gives Takeo an extra roll in combat whenever they are together.
Great compatibility: When Baketsu is on the field, and actively assisting Takeo, Takeo rolls Bo4 instead of Bo3.

     Taru Yi
"Bah, stop trying to hit me and HIT ME!"
  • The Big Guy: He’s the Taijutsu specialist of Takeo’s summons, and is as tall as Kakashi (hair included).
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Outside of Taijutsu, he has no other areas of expertise.
  • Crisis of Faith: After some embarrassing defeats at Red Drop’s Fight Night, Taru begins to doubt his ability as a fighter. This gets resolved when he saves Shino from Kakuzu’s Water Monster, restoring his faith in himself.
  • The Grappler: Taru’s a taijutsu specialist and a master of the Shell Shattering Fist, a fighting style that mainly uses grappling, strikes to the head and eyes, chip damage, biting, and choking.
  • Not Even Bothering with an Excuse: He didn’t bother hiding why he lost his fight against Enma, just admitting he fought awfully against the other summon.
  • Stout Strength: He is on the heavy side, but that is mostly muscle.

     Hige Yi
"What's this? Oh dearie you're far too thin!"
  • Doting Grandparent: She cares deeply about the well-being of her grandchild Baketsu as well as Takeo, believing the latter doesn’t eat enough and gets roughed up too frequently.
  • Happily Married: To Kotai.
  • Miniature Senior Citizens: She’s small even for an otter, able to fit in the palm of a hand.
  • Never Mess with Granny: Her voice is authoritative enough to send a shiver down even bloodied shinobi, and she's not afraid to speak her mind.
  • Older Than They Look: Hige takes great care in looking as youthful as she does, and doesn't appreciate anyone mentioning her age.
Hige: You know I don't like to be called granny dear, I don't put in all this effort to look young just to be called old!
  • Sensor Character: Hige is an exceptional sensor, gifted with some of the most sensitive whiskers in the world.
  • Shipper on Deck: She’s very happy with the idea of Sakura and Takeo dating, seeing her as a nice girl and a good match for Takeo. She is also supportive when Temari joins the two, encouraging their onsen trip during their time in Ame.
  • Target Spotter: Hige works in conjunction with Takeo as the spotter for the Lightning Rod Sensor. She can pinpoint enemy locations for Takeo and he calls down lightning on them from a distance.

     Kotai Yi
"So you're the little snot my wife's so fond of, huh?"
  • Animal Assassin: He can be called on by Takeo to eliminate an enemy with great precision.
  • Cool Old Guy: At first, he came across as a stickler for formality, demanding Takeo be more respectful to him. It was all a joke, and he appreciates Takeo for taking care of his wife.
  • Happily Married: To Hige.
  • Old Master: Age hasn't done anything to dull him.
  • Stealth Expert: Kotai is a stealth and scouting specialist, who happily uses these skills to disappear out of sight and surprise people with an unexpected grumpy remark. He really lives up to his namesake.
  • You Are Fat: The first thing he says to Baketsu when Takeo summons him.
    Kotai: You're getting fat, boy.

Konoha's Golden Generation

     Kugi Utaboru
"Go out and smell the flowers every once in a while, yeah?"
  • Author Avatar: Dave has said that he would be like Kugi if he was in the world of Naruto.
  • Cigarette of Anxiety: He is seen smoking one after the reveal of his disheartening letter.
  • Heroic BSoD: After having the rest of his team either killed or crippled, Kugi is placed on Umeni’s team to continue being a shinobi. The stress of all that has the guy feeling it’s all futile.
  • Humble Goal: Doesn’t aspire to be anything more than a desk chunin.
  • Ridiculously Average Guy: He is a given as to what the average Konoha-nin is to be. Even the dice agree with his fate a single roll out of a 100 landed on a 50.
If ever there was proof that this boy is destined for the most average of background desk jobs…
  • Sole Survivor: The last active member of Team 21, as his former partners Yamano and Nini, were killed and crippled respectively.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Whether he’s been overusing his voice, underusing his voice, or has been smoking too much, when Takeo catches back up with Kugi after Ame, the teenager talks with a gravelly and scratchy voice.

     Umeni Katsuno
"Time to show you what I can do! Watch closely!"
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Her mom and dad enjoy telling Takeo embarrassing childhood stories of Umeni, much to her chagrin.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Had a crush on Takeo ever since the academy, filling her notebook with scribbles of "Umeni Chiba".
  • Just Friends: Her date with Takeo has the two realize they have nothing between the two romantically, but they still enjoy being friends.
  • Shrinking Violet: Takeo formally meets her sitting under a tree, alone. When he becomes her friend, she soon grows out of this.

     Sakura Haruno
"Come back in one piece or I will come and drag you back myself."
  • Amazonian Beauty: After some intense physical training, Sakura gained an impressive physique, complete with abs. Whenever she shows off, Takeo can’t help but admire her.
  • The Apprentice: To Tsunade of the Sannin.
  • Berserk Button: She hates being overlooked by people, as she wants to be seen on the same level as her allies. Hanzo taunts her by saying he's never heard of her performing anything worth of note. Her response is to stomp the ground hard enough for a boulder to jut out behind her and for a small fissure to form behind said boulder.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Studied Earth Release during her time in Jonin Bootcamp.
  • Green-Eyed Epiphany: When she notices that Ino is into Takeo, she has the thought of the two of them getting together so that Ino wouldn’t interfere with her and Sasuke. However, she comes to realize that she doesn’t like the thought of Takeo with Ino, leading her to come to terms with her own feelings for him.
  • Insecure Love Interest: Averted. When Takeo initially informs Sakura of Temari’s advances through their letters, she is calm throughout it all. Sakura then states Temari can try whatever she wants to try and get back with him, cause she believes Takeo will stay with her.
  • Kiai: SHANNARO!
  • Love Triangle: She is competing with Temari over being Takeo’s girlfriend. It’s resolved when, after the two girls meet, they are just as into each other as they are into Takeo.
  • The Medic: She is especially capable Medical-nin, with her training from Tsunade only flourishing those gifts.
  • Megaton Punch: Her custom style, Shannaro Style, consists of punches that send her opponents flying.
  • Power is Sexy: After Takeo’s fight with Sutsu at Fight Night, Sakura gives her thoughts on the match.
“I didn’t really like the way you were showing off too much…” Sakura trails off for a moment, before continuing more bashfully, “But you just ignoring his punches was pretty hot.”
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: After having to listen to her teammates complain about their training as well as constantly ignoring her, Sakura lets loose about how Sasuke and Naruto have treated her as a lesser member of their team, and calls them out after the two invite themselves to watch her spar.
Sakura: I'm sick of both of you just assuming I'll go along with whatever either of you wants! I want to spar in private, I want both of you to go and find something else to occupy your time with and I want you to accept that I'm just as much of a ninja as the two of you are!
  • Smug Smiler: She is one in her response photo to Temari and Takeo, though that’s not the main focus of the picture.
  • Stronger Than They Look: Her training with Tsunade has buffed her up considerably. She can cause fissures in the earth by stomping, and can casually throw boulders with a single hand.
  • This Is for Emphasis, Bitch!: Sakura’s letter to Temari has the most damning sign-off ever.
    It’s on, bitch.
    Takeo’s girlfriend, Sakura Haruno
  • Took a Level in Badass: After a loss against Takeo, Sakura took to training personally with Kakashi, growing stronger earlier than she did in canon.
  • Workout Fanservice: Her Fight Night gear has her don a sports bra and a pair of athletic shorts that exposes her abs.

     Shikamaru Nara
"Troublesome. Knew I should've brought Choji."
  • Bystander Syndrome: Decides to not interfere, at first, when a drunken Rock Lee goes on a rampage at a bar. He just lets his other companions handle it as punishment for making him hang out.
This is what you all get for making me come out rather than letting me sleep damn you all.
  • Chaste Hero: He finds women “troublesome” and doesn’t understand why people bother with relationships.
  • Smart People Play Chess: Or rather shogi in this case, which he regularly challenges Takeo to.

     Rock Lee
"Keep your fire of YOUTH burning brightly!"
  • The Bartender: Lee takes on this role when all of the Jonin Bootcamp recruits have a get-together at a bar. His speed translates to getting patrons far drunker than they realize entirely too well.
  • Cant Hold Their Liquor: Even just a small drink can turn Lee into a crazed drunk who will beat your ass for fun.
  • Drunken Master: An intoxicated Lee managed to hold his own against multiple others from the Jonin Bootcamp program single-handedly.
  • Dynamic Entry: Lee gives Takeo these throughout the story whenever he can, as part of their eternal rivalry.
  • Friendly Rivalry: He and Takeo enjoy hanging out as much as they do challenging each other. It helps that whenever they are hanging out, it usually is mostly them physically competing.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Takes Takeo dating Sakura as well as he can.
Takeo! MY ETERNAL RIVAL! HOW COULD YOU STEAL THE BEAUTIFUL CHERRY BLOSSOM BEFORE OUR LOVE COULD BLOOM!? CONGRATULATIONS WITH YOUR RELATIONSHIP! I MUST OVERCOME YOU AND SHOW MY WORTH! YOU MAKE A LOVELY COUPLE!
  • Lightning Bruiser: All his physical stats have broken their limits, so Lee can hit harder and faster than anyone else his age.
  • Self-Punishment Over Failure: Whenever Lee fails, he will atone by walking around the village on his hands fifty times! And if he can’t do that he will do ten thousand push-ups on his thumbs alone! And if he can’t do that-

     Choji Akimichi
"Be safe! Though I'm sure you'll just beat whoever gets in your way anyways."
  • Nice Guy: Good man, Choji
  • Running Gag: Always expect Takeo to comment ‘Good man, Choji’ whenever the two are together.

     Ino Yamanaka
"I admire guys that know what they want and go after it!"
  • Hopeless Suitor: She didn’t have much of a chance with Takeo, since he just wasn’t interested in her.
  • Jealous Romantic Witness: She bemoans having to listen to Sakura talking about how amazing Takeo is as a boyfriend.
  • Power is Sexy: Ino definitely has a thing for strong men. She was first attracted to Sasuke, a known prodigy, and then moves on to Takeo when she hears of his strength and skill.
  • Sexual Deviance Is Evil: When she finds out that Takeo is dating both Sakura and Temari, she believes him to be a pervert and loses all attraction she had for him.

     Sutsu Ennorata
"Now I'll show you what I can do."

     Kiba Inuzuka
"Build your lead. It'll only make the hunt more rewarding."
  • Canine Companion: Just like in canon, he has Akamaru.
  • Graceful Loser: He loses to Takeo again in a rematch at Fight Night. He takes the loss well and says that if Takeo is the standard for bootcamp, he has a long way to go.
  • Have We Met?: He never forgets a scent. He was able to recognize Takeo years ago, meeting only once in the academy all the way to the Chunin Exams when he asked when they met.
  • Sticky Situation: His fight against Takeo during the Chunin Exams. He deliberately walks into a syrup field thinking it was a failed attack. After getting stuck, his only hope is Akamaru… who gets stuck as well when he tries to lick the Syrup Field.

     Sasuke Uchiha
"So you've been improving as well. Beating you will make a good milestone."
  • Adaptational Heroism: Sasuke has not abandoned Konoha as the story is coming towards the timeline of canon Shippuden.
  • Field Promotion: Sasuke receives his promotion to Jounin at the same time as Takeo when they are assigned to the group in charge of the destruction of Otogakure and the assassination of Orochimaru.
  • Go Through Me: As Naruto draws unwanted attention to himself at the beginning of Konoha’s Chunin exam, Sasuke declares that if anyone wants to get at Naruto, has to pass through him first. His statement is intensified with him flashing the Sharingan.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: States as much that if Takeo does anything to Sakura, they’ll be having words.
  • Jerkass Realization: When he and the other members of Team 7 track down Takeo chasing Kakashi they watch as their sensei teaches Takeo the Lightning Rod Jutsu by using it on him, after which Kakashi leaves abruptly. Sasuke is very dismissive of the teacher, believing him to be a fraud and a terrible sensei. When Takeo instantly recreates the Lightning Release, Sasuke is at first enraged that Kakashi gave Takeo special treatment, but recognizes that Takeo literally chased down Kakashi and simply asked to be taught, while he himself has been the difficult one.
    Am… Am I the problem?
  • Official Couple: With Tenten.
  • Playing with Fire: Being an Uchiha, his Fire Release is in the blood.
  • Shock and Awe: His Lightning Release was discovered as his affinity when he took the Academy’s Nature Transformation class.
  • Significant Name Shift: Sasuke used to call Takeo by his last name, “Chiba”, whether he was talking or thinking internally. After their trip to Ame, he seems to recognize Takeo's strength and instead refers to him by his title, “Numanin”.
  • Sore Loser: Does not take his loss to Takeo well at all, especially since he was the one who initiated the challenge. While he’s stuck, Takeo offers to free him if he asks, only to be met with silence.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Sasuke has a love for tomatoes. He says that the one redeeming trait of Ichiraku was that they don’t hold back on tomatoes when he asks for a lot of them.
  • Vengeance Denied: Itachi was already dead before Sasuke could ever hope to face him, courtesy of Orochimaru taking control of his body. Sasuke makes up for this by taking part in the assault on Otogakure.

     Naruto Uzumaki
"You're alright! You know some super cool techniques!"
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Shadow Clones are noted to give their user all the information they learned to them upon being dispelled. This sudden influx of knowledge causes the users migraines and headaches, and multiple uses of this can cause permanent damage. Naruto is so simple-minded that these effects don’t apply to him.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: The pressure of being Konoha's jinchuriiki and having to kill others to protect his friends and home have caused Naruto's mood to dampen significantly.
  • Broken Tears: When he tells Jiraiya his fears about the upcoming war Naruto breaks down and cries into the sage’s chest.
  • Demolitions Expert: Finds a natural talent in Kayakujutsu during his time in Bootcamp.
  • Demoted to Extra: As a result of Takeo not interacting with him often, Naruto goes from the main character in canon to barely a supporting character.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Deconstructed. Naruto’s constant attempts at getting a date with Sakura make him more detestable to her rather than endearing.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: When Naruto mentions “Jinchuuriki Stuff” as part of his bootcamp training, the guy turns mulish and starts downing some sake while at the bar with the other members.
  • Gaining the Will to Kill: As much as he doesn’t want to kill anybody, with the impending war, Naruto resolves himself and says he will if it means protecting his friends and home.
  • Heroic BSoD: A scared Naruto breaks down to Jiraiya all his fears about fighting in the war, from having to kill other people and fighting much more experienced Jinchuuriki.
Naruto: Everyone's counting on me to stop them and to keep Konoha safe and to help us win, but what if I can't? I'm not even really any good at being a ninja! Not like Sasuke or Takeo or Neji or Bushy Brows or Sakura-chan!
  • I Choose to Stay: Utakata offered him a place at Wave to avoid the war and help in protecting the island. Though Naruto wanted to say yes, he couldn’t abandon his friends and home and ultimately said no.
  • No Social Skills: Naruto comes off as abrasive and rude to others, but he simply doesn’t understand that as no one raised him properly. He gets better by the time of Jonin Bootcamp, as he starts taking note of how he acts and tries correcting himself.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: His loss to Suro by means of ‘there’s something behind you’ has Dave mention that the other members of Team 7 will never let him live that down.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: When he uses his Jinchuuriki abilities, Naruto becomes more violent and aggressive. His bootcamp training and guidance from Utakata have given him more control over the fox.

     Shino Aburame
"You continue to be an example to aspire towards. Why? Because even as I improve, I am sure that you too do not stop growing."
  • Badass in Distress: Suffers an early heavy attack from Kakuzu’s Water Beast that leaves him in need of rescue throughout the whole battle.
  • Creepy Good: Don’t be put off by the insects crawling underneath his skin or his odd speech. Shino’s a good guy when you get to know him.
  • I Owe You My Life: He feels indebted to Takeo because he saved his life from Kakuza.
  • Sixth Ranger: At first, Shino wasn’t considered for the bootcamp program due to not standing out enough. After some successful background training, he’s welcomed as a late addition.
  • Verbal Tic: Shino likes to explain things after posing a rhetorical question that would normally be left unspoken. Why? That’s just how Shino talks.

     Neji Hyuuga
"The trail you blaze is imposing as always. Yet the results speak for themselves. Onwards. I shall walk it at your side."
  • Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: An intoxicated Neji had the bright idea to challenge Lee to a drinking contest.
  • Arrow Catch: Managed to catch an arrow fired by Kidōmaru during the raid on Otogakure that would have impaled Totagi in the chest.
  • Elemental Punch: This is a goal for Neji. He is seeking to combine Fire release into his mastery of the Gentle Fist to create a new style: the Gentle Fire Fist. He perfects the Gentle Fire Fist and shows it during the assault on Otogakure.
  • The Fatalist: Was a firm believer that no one could escape their destiny, and that it was impossible to fight one's fate. Later inverted, after a fight and some conversations with Takeo, Neji accepts that one's fate is whatever one makes of it.
  • Field Promotion: Neji receives his promotion to Jounin at the same time as Takeo when they are assigned to the group in charge of the destruction of Otogakure and the assassination of Orochimaru.
  • Fiery Stoic: Neji is calm and stoic while also having Fire Release as his affinity.
  • Having a Blast: Neji's Gentle Fire Fist causes an explosive detonation on anyone he hits, as Sakon and Ukon find out.
  • What Does She See in Him?: He doesn’t understand how Hinata can be attracted to Naruto, but he does his best to be supportive of her.

     Hinata Hyuuga
"You seem nice. You're very strong, you must have trained very hard."
  • Faint in Shock: Mentioning Naruto in front of her runs the risk of her fainting, which will last between five minutes to half an hour.
  • Stalker with a Crush: She takes to watching Naruto while using the Byakugan so she goes unnoticed.

     Tenten Terada
"Don't take this the wrong way though, but you're kind of intense."

Konoha's Adults

     Sugishi Kahonako
"We're not stopping until even the rain is red, you got that?"
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sugishi.png
Art by Mynori

  • Beautiful Singing Voice: Was able to pick up a gig as the new singer at an Ame bar while undercover.
  • Blood Knight: Sugishi loves a good fight, whether it is a friendly spar or killing an enemy shinobi.
  • Catchphrase Insult: Constantly calls the Kiri-nin sword-swallowers.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: She unleashes a multitude of swears when she’s informed that the Kiri delegation for Noodles consists of four of the Seven Swordsmen.
  • Cool Teacher: Sugishi has been the most open and honest of all of Takeo’s senseis, and spent the most amount of personal time with him. During that time, she often just jokes around with him but still teaches him whenever she can. Even with all the incredible teachers he’s had, there’s a reason Takeo calls Sugishi his favorite sensei.
  • Cuteness Proximity: When she summons Kyuti, Sugishi can’t help but give her scratches.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Goes on a drunken rant on a hypothetical battle against Kiri, using glorified and thoughtless tactics to win. It takes Ebisu explaining that her tactics would result in her and her supposed troops' death for her to calm down.
  • Hidden Depths: She reveals herself to have musical talent and knows how to play the Hotchiku. With it, she plays quiet and soft songs, rather than something bombastic or bawdy, that is greatly enjoyed.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Threatens Takeo with his end if he ever reveals that Kyuti, her own adorable otter summon, is her favorite.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Goads Juzo into attacking by scratching her cheek on the spot where she scarred him.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While she usually is brash and rude, Sugishi can open up and show a more caring side to her, especially around Takeo. Whenever Takeo seems to push himself too far in training, she tends to make sure that he doesn’t overdo it. After she and Takeo reunite after the two separated when they left an Ame that was beginning to have a civil war, the first thing she does is hug him tightly while confirming that he is okay.
  • Making a Splash: She is Konoha’s Water Release specialist and firmly believes it to be the best of all the Nature Releases.
  • Mentor's New Hope: One of the conditions of being the lead summoner of the otter contract is to find new signers. Unfortunately, all signers must have the Suiton and always strive to master it. Sugishi was struggling to find acceptable candidates, as not only is the Water Release rare in Konoha, every student she thought had a chance was rejected by the otters when she tried. As she was searching for someone finally having the quality to become a summoner, along came Takeo.
  • Signature Move: The Hardened Water Drill, a Water Release technique she uses frequently and teaches to Takeo.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Even more so than Suro. She tends to utter a curse whenever she can, especially when she’s emotional.
  • Summon Magic: As the holder of the otter contract, Sugishi has a plethora of otters she can summon.

     Kurenai Yuhi
"You've been an extremely welcome surprise."
  • Cant Hold Their Liquor: She turns out to be the biggest lightweight out of all of Takeo’s senseis when they all drink together at the Torn Silk, drunkenly arguing with Sugishi and constantly clinging onto Hoheto.
  • Genre Relaunch: In a drunken rant, Kurenai says that Takeo’s success in Genjutsu will redeem its reputation in Konoha.
  • Master of Illusion: She is Konoha’s Genjutsu specialist.
  • Official Couple: With Hoheto.
  • The Paralyzer: Kurenai’s Genjutsus manage to shut down Kakuzu long enough for Sugishi and Yari to kill his first body.

     Ebisu
"Yes! Yes Yes Yes! VINDICAAAATIOOOOOOOOOOON!"
  • Anti-Alcohol Aesop: Ebisu goes on a tangent to Takeo about moderation when drinking after catching him in a bar surrounded by his drunk senseis.
  • Boring, but Practical: He focuses more on supplementary skills of the shinobi, including awareness, the Body Flicker, and Shurikenjutsu. While they are neither flashy nor unique, these techniques are essential.

     Kakashi Hatake
"If you ever realize that serious attachments only lead to pain and suffering, I'll make sure to repay the favor."
  • Badass Decay: Noted In-Universe. Many characters state how Kakashi isn’t the fighter he used to be and he himself says he hasn’t been up to form in a while. However, he decides to start getting his strength back after teaching at the Academy and personally training Team 7, and now back to his peak.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: While Kakashi manages to appear almost completely sober during Takeo's first outing with his various mentors to the Torn Silk, the large amount of empty glasses in front of him as well as the very distressing comments he makes shows that the Copy Nin is completely smashed.
  • I Have No Idea What I'm Doing: While teaching Nature Release to the Academy, he internally thinks that he has no idea how to teach anyone and constantly compares his efforts to his own sensei, Minato.
  • I Need to Go Iron My Dog: When Naomi starts flirting with him after he helps in killing the Ame defectors, Kakashi gives this response.
Kakashi: Terribly sorry, I think there’s an old lady about to fall and break a hip a few blocks over, I’ll have to go and offer my assistance.
  • It's Raining Men: For the final part of the fight against the Mano and the other Ame defectors, Kakashi does a swan dive off the back of Temari’s fan and takes the fight to the ground.
  • Just Ignore It: Kakashi advises Takeo at one point to Body Flicker away if he is ever in any trouble or just in an uncomfortable situation that he doesn't want to be in, claiming that most problems will resolve themselves by the time he comes back to it. He follows this up by Body Flickering away from Takeo.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Kakashi has seen the worst of war and lost most of the ones he has held dear to him. Despite this, he still tries his best to keep going and help out where he can.
Because at the end of the day, even when everything turns to ash in his hands, when trying to help seems to make it all worse, Kakashi just can’t give up and let go.
  • Laughing Mad: Kakashi descends into girlish giggles that start to sound more vulnerable during his drinking at the Torn Silk.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After he believes Takeo killed himself using the Lightning Rod Jutsu he just taught him, Kakashi, for a brief moment, considers absconding from Konoha with Team 7 and making for Wave. He discards that thought for the insanity that it is.
  • Shock and Awe: While he is proficient in all the Nature Releases, Lightning Release is his affinity and the one he teaches at the Jonin Bootcamp.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: He is very prone to Body Flicker away at a moment's notice, even when he is supposed to be doing his job.

     Might Guy
"YOUR YOUTH IS INSPIRING!"
  • Twinkle Smile: As revealed by Kakashi, the twinkle is a Genjutsu.

     Danzo Shimura
"Hope. How strange, to feel it, after all this time."
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Rather than appearing in what would be Shippuden, Danzo is first met during Konoha's Chunin Exams where he is called to discuss the security breach on the ninja info cards.
  • Adaptational Heroism: In canon, Danzo created the Root program and was responsible for nearly every major setback Konoha has suffered since the Uchiha Massacre. In A Leaf of a Tree, Danzo actually has Konoha’s interest at heart and has a firm belief in the Will of Fire.
  • Grumpy Old Man: Has apparent disdain for the supposed Golden Generation, not seeing much of what makes them great.
  • A Lesson in Defeat: Danzo gives a lecture to Takeo about the need to accept defeat as part of their leadership lessons. He takes his student to a hospital and shows him the wounded shinobi. Danzo says that while he hates seeing any under his command wounded if need be he will make whatever sacrifices are necessary. He then teaches that not every victory is worth the price and the losses can prove to be not worth the result. Overall, Danzo’s lesson to Takeo was that sometimes sacrifice doesn’t outweigh victory and that failure is acceptable in certain circumstances.
  • Master of Illusion: Has a talent for Genjutsu, thanks in part to his Sharingan implant.
  • Razor Wind: His secret technique, the Vacuum Release, mostly features Wind Release that specializes in cutting attacks.
  • Smile of Approval: He initially regards Takeo with scorn, viewing him as a failure for not recognizing the security breach that was the ninja info cards. When Takeo breaks out of his Genjutsu and succeeds in both parts of the interrogation test, his opinion starts to change. Finally, when he returns to Konoha after his success in Ame, Danzo gives him a smile after Takeo says he will keep on doing his best.
  • Stern Teacher: Danzo is a taskmaster who expects nothing but the best from his students. Even though he’s harsh, he does his utmost to teach practical lessons and shares the wisdom he has learned throughout his years.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Danzo notes that he was once a plucky and altruistic genin, but the shinobi lifestyle has made him into a jaded and cynical old man.
  • When I Was Your Age...: Constantly bemoans the failures of the newest generation, saying they had greater standards when he was their age.

     Hiruzen Sarutobi
"So long as Konoha has young shinobi like you, the Will of Fire can remain strong."
  • Ambadassador: He is willing to lead a delegation of peace in the hopes of forming an alliance for Konoha, but he is more than willing to use assassination and force if need be. Don’t forget, he is the Sandaime Hokage.
  • Gunboat Diplomacy: When dealing with Tani, the Hokage will respect their independence as a country by informing them of his arrival should he visit. Whether they want him to doesn’t matter though, he’ll assert his authority as their superior in military power by coming over regardless of what they want.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: When Hiruzen first comes to learn about Takeo’s involvement with the ninja info cards, he calls for the teachers most prominent in Takeo’s life, Hoheto, Sugishi, and Kakashi, and questions them. When he interrogates Takeo, he comes to the conclusion that Takeo is innocent, just ignorant of how massive a security breach he was holding onto.
  • Shipper on Deck: He is very much in favor of Takeo and Temari keeping up correspondence, teasing the former for how enthusiastic he is in supporting the alliance and asking if they might celebrate a more permanent bond forming.
  • So Proud of You: Says as much in so few words to both Kurenai and Takeo when they inform him of the death of Kakuzu.
    Hiruzen: Kurenai, Takeo? Well done.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: As a result of there being no Konoha Crush, Lord Third is still alive after the Chunin Exams.

Suna

     Temari Sabaku
"If only our villages weren't so far away from each other."
  • Blank White Eyes: Temari gets a pair of these when Gaara asks why Kankuro was joking about her and Takeo marrying each other.
  • Blow You Away: Whether it’s her Wind Release or her fan, she’ll send you flying.
  • Determinator: As she puts forth during her fight with Takeo, she doesn’t believe in giving up.
Temari: I am the daughter of the Yondaime Kazekage. I will not walk away from any fight defeated. I will walk out victorious, or I will be carried out!
  • Femme Fatale: She’s already quite the beauty, but has been training further in the art of seduction to take advantage of this.
  • Graceful Loser: She congratulates Takeo on beating her in the Chunin Exams. She even gives him a victory lap on her fan.
  • Heroic BSoD: During the time after her breakup with Takeo, she hits a snag in her training while her brothers make significant advancements of their own, all at a time when their father is looking at them and deciding which will be his successor. All these feelings coalesce into depression and wanting Takeo back by her side.
I really can't understand the whole 'training for fun' thing right now. I could use you with me in Suna… Honestly I could just use you in general.
  • Honorary Princess: As the daughter of the Kazekage, she notes this makes her a noble, not a princess. This still doesn’t stop her from earning the title of ‘Suna’s princess’.
  • Intimate Telecommunications: Sends an arousing photo of herself to Takeo, asking if he likes it. He can’t dislike it at all.
  • Love Triangle: She is competing with Sakura over being Takeo’s girlfriend. It’s resolved when, after the two girls meet, they are just as into each other as they are into Takeo.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Like her other two siblings, she is given the surname Sabaku.
  • Wicked Weasel: Has a personal summon in Kamatari, a weasel with a sickle.
  • Working Out Their Emotions: She channeled her frustration in Takeo going steady with Sakura into her own personal training, noting it to be a huge success.

     Gaara Sabaku
"Have you continued to grow? I am not who I was half a year ago, it would be disappointing if you were."
  • Mercy Rewarded: Gaara surrendered in his fight against Sasuke, noting that in order to win he would need to resort to lethal force. His father rewarded him for his restraint by not risking the alliance with Konoha and promoted him to chunin.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Like his other two siblings, he is given the surname Sabaku.
  • No Sense of Humor: He didn’t understand why Kankuro was joking about Temari and Takeo marrying, and only played along because he didn’t know what else to do.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Thanks to Jiraiya fixing his Jinchuuriki seal, Gaara is more emotionally stable earlier on than in canon.
  • Willfully Weak: He purposefully held back in the Chunin Exams, as going all out would be lethal to his opponent.

     Kankuro Sabaku
"See, my sister is sad now and you play a part in that. That's not good. That's not good at all."
  • Big Brother Instinct: Inverted, as Temari's the eldest sibling, but if any of his words about making sure his sister is happy and safe are an indication, he'll be there to make those who hurt her pay.
  • The Gadfly: He enjoys harassing people, especially Takeo. When the two meet again in Suna for the Chunin Exams, Kankuro gets a huge laugh over him when he jokingly denies him a blessing to marry Temari.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Is always implied by him about Temari and Takeo's relationship. Far more intensified after learning of the Polyamory.
  • Marionette Master: He was already a prodigy with puppets, but Kankuro has recently been making further breakthroughs after his loss in Konoha.
  • Mini-Mecha: Appears to be building one in response to Takeo’s antics with his sister.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Like his other two siblings, he is given the surname Sabaku.
