  • The original Traveller boxed set carried the distress call from the Free Trader Beowulf (see the page quote on the main page) desperately calling for help after being attacked by pirates. The cargo ship is losing cabin pressure and is drifting and is desperately calling for someone... anyone... to assist. Over twenty years later, when Steve Jackson Games put out the GURPS edition of Traveler, the cover of the game featured the following. It was enough to make the fans of the game stand up and cheer.
    Free Trader Beowulf...
Come in, Free Trader Beowulf... Can you hear me?
    Come in, Free Trader Beowulf...
...hang in there, Beowulf, help is on the way!"
    • Then some wag applied some Fridge Brilliance to make it a Funny Moment by pointing out that the 20 year response time was the downside of no FTL radio.
  • The Oberlindes family of merchant princes, as described in the sourcebooks have a number of Crowning Moments of Awesome. In one instance they are hampered in an expedition by Vargr Space Pirates. So they buy a gigantic ship, and arrange to obtain it bristling with military grade arms. They rather ironically name it the ''Emissary'', and send it through Vargr space, sneering at every corsair in the galaxy. Another time Marc Oberlindes, The Patriarch, heard that his son had been imprisoned. So he hired a band of mercenaries to break him out.

  • The Imperial Battleship Gram, a transport containing several divisions of soldiers and a few smaller ships are trapped when they hear the Earth government they were fighting for had been overthrown. In response they sail all the way through Aslan territory to found the Sword Worlds.
  • In Alien Races 4 a Bwap, a member of a race famous for it's enthusiasm for bureaucracy, stops a mother with a baby in a line of tourists by claiming her ID was faulty. This causes a jam-up in the line behind her and diverts considerable attention, not to mention wrath. While everyone is busy arguing with the Bwap, Imperial police snipers sneak up on some terrorists in the line and catch them. Later the Bwap gives the mother part of his reward as recompense for the unwitting part she played in his Batman Gambit.
  • The whole Intersteller Wars; Planet Terra taking over the entire Vilani Imperium.
