Awesome / Ted DiBiase

  • THAT LAUGH. DiBiase might well be the Ur-Example of the Evil Laugh trope in professional wrestling. Even when he makes appearances nowadays he always proves that he can still do the laugh.
  • He gave us The Undertaker. Well, sorta. Taker made his debut at Survivor Series 1990 as the fourth member of DiBiase's team, and up until that moment no one knew who the fourth man was gonna be. Considering the goofiness of Taker's gimmick, this could've been thrown to the wayside. But DiBiase sold it perfectly.
Dibiase: "Led to the ring by his manager Brother Love, from Death Valley, weighing in at 322 pounds, I give you…The Undertaker! Ahahahahaha!"
    • Bonus points for Taker's music perfectly synching up with DiBiase's Evil Laugh.
    • It should be added that DiBiase, in fact, was the sole survivor of this match, as he finally emerged victorious after an intense back and forth sequence between himself and Bret Hart.
    • Five years and two month later, he introduced "Stone Cold" Steve Austin to WWE. Sure, his gimmick was bad and plain during that time; but his debut was the start of his rise to become one of the biggest stars of the Attitude Era.
  • A villainous moment of awesome: In 1987, Teddy's first few appearances mostly involved humiliating people by making them degrade themselves for his money. It solidified him as a cartoonish, diabolical bastard, but the most infamous example? Sean, the little boy who was promised $500 if he dribbled a basketball 15 times. DiBiase actually kicked it away from him at 14. After that display, Teddy was one of the biggest Heels in the company.
Ted DiBiase: We didn't get to fifteen, Sean!!!
    • That also led to an offscreeen moment of awesome: after the show they found the kid and brought him backstage, where DiBiase gave him the $500 and let him meet some of the wrestlers.
  • On the 15th Anniversary episode of Monday Night Raw, there was a Battle Royal featuring 15 personalities from WWE's past; the winner of the match was Irwin R. Schyster. But not long after the bell rang, Ted DiBiase came down to the ring and offered IRS a briefcase full of money in exchange for the victory. IRS accepted, eliminated himself, and The Million Dollar Man got his way once again.
    • So Ted basically invented the Money in the Bank concept?
  • In Mid-South Wrestling, he got the chance to fight then-NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair. Dick Murdoch objected to the fact that he wasn't picked for the match and attacked Ted before the match could begin, throwing him into the ring post and causing an ugly gash. DiBiase chose to wrestle his match against Flair despite the wound, so when the match started, Ric naturally went after the injury. DiBiase collapsed outside the ring in his own blood, eventually losing by count-out....and then Murdoch attacked him again, delivering a brutal Brainbuster. DiBiase was a heel going into the match, and he emerged a face.
