  • Making ace in a day, during a daytime scrap, flying a night fighter.
  • Thread 24. You and the witches are about to get into a furball with a gaggle of martian bandits in a night fight over the English Channel. The witches need your radar but there's a downed witch in the water with martian watercraft on an intercept course. Whether you stay with the fight or rescue the witch, someone's going to die. That is, unless you light up the bandits with a radar blast, draw all their attention to your tail and trust in the witches to keep them off you, then dive for the deck and skim the channel's surface, scaring off the martians by flying at them upside down with all guns blazing and less than 300 feet of altitude. And then you find out later it was Sanya you saved and victory tastes even sweeter.
  • Shooting down a dreadnought.
    • Shooting down the Edmund Fitzgerald and then crash-landing on it.
  • Skipping an electric shark-plane over water like a stone, completely clearing the SPRUCE GOOSE.
  • Trevor Maloney barges onto the deck of the USS California with armed RAF goons to haul Young away in chains. Except that the California's XO, Commander Nicholas "Mack" Mackintosh, MOH, refuses to allow it:
"I said NO," Mack snarls. "You want him, you go through proper channels. You certainly don't come storming onto MY deck, with armed men, without permission - after taking your sweet god-damned time with our docking paperwork and dumping an entire munitions dump of ammo and high-explosive shells so close to my dock that the FIRST Martian air-raid that visits will blow the superstructure clean off my ship's hull!" Mack's face isn't reddening with anger - in fact, it's getting pale, and his voice is only getting steadier as energy flows into his exhausted frame. "And you ESPECIALLY don't mouth off to ladies, or Witches, on my ship, especially when I'm DATING one!"
    • And then Mack holds an immediate trial, speaks to Yoshika in Japanese, determines Young's guilt... and sentences him to time served. Then, he extradites him into Minna's custory, again using clever legalese to thwart Maloney.
    • And for the finisher, Maloney's goons attempt to seize Young by force... and that's when thirty of the California's Marines show up, racking the bolts of thirty rifles, and three .30 cal machine guns. Maloney is forced to flee.
  • As described in the world-building documents, the Battle of Pearl Harbor turned out very differently thanks to a poorly-timed martian Enemy Mine when they attacked both Pearl and the Japanese strike force simultaneously. This prompted Admiral Nagumo to deploy his fighter craft to defend the harbor, saving Battleship Row from annihilation by martian forces. Several hours later the US Navy returned the favor when none other than the USS Arizona came to the rescue of the Japanese battleships Hiei and Kirishima.
