"Saying Pokemon GO is a win is putting it lightly - Pokemon GO is a 1000 ft. grand slam that threatens to engulf the world. In less than a week, it's managed to send Nintendo's stock through the roof, adding $7.5 billion to the company's market value (and counting). (...) Within two days of its release, Pokemon GO overtook Tinder in daily active users on Android. If it were a mere flash in the pan, that might not be a big deal - but the userbase has only continued to grow, and now it's near surpassing Twitter, one of the mainstays in social networking for the past several years. This is pretty huge - Twitter has invested hundreds of millions of dollars and nearly a decade to build its userbase to its current state, and Nintendo is managing to potentially beat that after a week. That's INSANE. Firms would pay BILLIONS for even a sliver of that kind of market power - and Nintendo's managed it with an app that forces real life socialization and exercise, which seems more worthwhile than apps dedicated to hooking up with strangers or livetweeting TV shows."

As usual, Spoilers Off apply to moment pages. Proceed with caution. You Have Been Warned.

  • Times Square Climax:
    • There's a huge crowd of people in Times Square, sending Pokémon after Mewtwo, trying to defeat it in the ten minute time-limit. They win, which means everyone gets to capture it.
    • Mewtwo was a single Pokémon going toe-to-toe with the Pokémon of hundreds of trainers, and for quite awhile, Mewtwo is kicking ass. On the long list of Pokémon Mewtwo had to fight off was Dragonair, Charizard, Pidgeot, Gengar and Gyarados; all powerful Pokémon in their own right. Holy shit it had its work cut out for it. Heck, the way Mewtwo deals with the Gyarados—it just kicks it in the face. That bears repeating: Mewtwo kicked a freaking Gyarados in the face!
    • Even better: Who lands the final blow? A Pikachu.
    • With the introduction of Raid battles and the fact that Legendary Pokémon, including Mewtwo itself (through EX Raids), are only available through this feature, the trailer's climax can more or less be perfectly replicated!
  • The special effects in the trailer are pretty sweet, especially the scene where a girl sends her Gyarados after a Snorlax, and the water Pokémon erupts out of the river to attack its sleeping foe.
  • YouPorn acknowledging that Pokémon Go has statistically been more sought after online than Porn. Let that sink in for a moment. And it's already surpassed the popularity of Tinder, and is on track to overtake the install base of Twitter.
Dorkly: Within two days of its release, Pokemon GO overtook Tinder in daily active users on Android. • In a fantastic counterpoint to the stories about people finding dead bodies while playing, a group in Massachusetts found an unconscious man suffering from a drug overdose, and were able to save him.
  • Pokémon Go has caused so much hype in South Korea that players anxious to play the game outside of the officially launched regions took things upon themselves by visiting the coastal city of Sokcho and a couple of other spots where it was possible to play the game (thanks to restricted map data, the game can't be played anywhere else). The mayor of Sokcho thought that this was a great opportunity to promote his town and went as far as to dress up like a Pokémon Professor. Over 3,000 people ended up visiting Sokcho. Imagine what would happen if the game were available in places like Seoul.
  • On the fanart side of things, never underestimate Team Instinct...ever.
  • Thanks to the Halloween event, Niantic's revenue increased by 134%!
  • Partially Crowning Moment of Funny, but the Westboro Baptist Church being a gym and inhabited by a Jigglypuff named "StopHate" and a Magmar at 666 CP named "Satan". The best part is that it's an awesome moment for Team Instinct, since the gym is technically theirs.
  • It's still possible to critical capture Pokémon just like in the main series, and it's just as satisfying.
  • Defeating a Raid Pokémon, especially those of higher difficulties. Adding to the awesome factor is that the design of the Raid battle allows all players to cast aside the team rivalry and work together to bring it down.
    • Successfully capturing a Raid Pokémon afterwards is also very satisfying. Bear in mind that most higher-end Raid Pokémon are fully evolved and the player is restricted to a limited number of Premier Balls — i.e. balls with a catch rate equivalent to that of the standard Pokéball — to try and catch them.
      • Successfully capturing a Legendary Pokémon (both in Raid Battles and in Research Breakthrough Rewards), given their abysmal catch rates despite the assistance of Golden Razz Berries, is always a cause for celebration. Plus, in Research Breakthroughs, the players can even use Great or Ultra Balls instead of Premier Balls. If you're lucky enough to find a shiny legendary via Raid Battle, then you can catch it with a single Premier Ball!
    • During Christmas 2018, after the release of the much requested PvP and the resulting stat changes, somebody was finally able to solo a Level 4 raid. Sure it was an Absol, but the sheer awesomeness of beating the unbeatable was enough. Two days later, Tyranitar was also defeated in a solo raid.
  • This (beautifully done) trailer confirms what will be happening at Pokemon GoFest: Legendary Pokémon are finally here.
  • The 2017 Halloween event not only introduces the first wave of Hoenn Pokemon (mainly Ghost and Dark-types), but also provides us with an awesome remix of the infamous Lavender Town theme to act as background music. And wait... There's one more... HOENN CONFIRMED!!!!!
  • Remember the rumor way back in Red/Blue that you could find and catch Mew under a truck by the docks? As of March 30, 2018, you have the opportunity to do just that!note
  • Nothing is more annoying than throwing a ball at the Pokemon you want to catch and seeing it effortlessly swat it away. If your chosen Pokemon buddy's friendship value is at 2 hearts or higher, it can sometimes intercept the swatted ball by headbutting it back at your target, forcing it to go in the ball! Made even better if it was your very last ball too.
  • How the 2020 GO Fest deals with the Legendary Pokémon featured in the second Special Research involves defeating the GO Rocket Leaders which not only gives you the chance to catch the Shadow Pokémon they use first, but the Shadow Legendary Pokémon they used last then shows up, meaning that not only do you have the chance to catch them with any ball you wish, but your ball count never goes down during these encounters, meaning that if your one and only Ultra Ball gets swatted away, you can try again with the same Ultra Ball.
    • And then it gets more awesome; after you’ve caught the Shadow Legendary Birds, Professor Willow proceeds to send the team leaders after the respective GO Rocket Leaders, while you deal with Giovanni himself. And after you’ve defeated him note , you not only have a chance to snag the Shadow Persian he uses, but you also capture his Shadow Mewtwo. And then Victini comes in immediately afterwards!
    • Initially, you couldn't actually see the team leaders battle the Rocket leaders. Niantic would then post a video showing a animated short of said battles seen here. What takes the cake is Spark sending out Elekid against Sierra's Houndoom and winning.
  • The Pokémon GO Tour Johto Special Research story for players who have the ticket before or during the event continues the Season of Heritage story (with it also focusing on Celebi) with you choosing a Johto starter, before being informed that Team GO Rocket is up to no good again and you are sent to stop them. It's eventually discovered that they are trying to control a Shiny Gyarados (in a similar fashion to the Lake of Rage event in the Generation II games). Ultimately, you end up thwarting their plans once again by catching the Shiny Gyarados that Team GO Rocket was trying to control (thus calming it down in the process). However, it isn't long before Professor Willow notices Celebi in the area, and you eventually capture it.
    • Also during the Johto Tour, there are wild Entei, Raikou and Suicune that are encountered like any other wild Pokémon, but you only get one shot at catching them, as they flee upon breaking out. However, in addition to the ones you can encounter if you manage to take a snapshot of them (ones encountered in a Raid Battle also count), the event gives you a fourth way of obtaining them; throughout the event, there is a Timed Research called the Johto Battle Challenge that (after completing the first set of tasks for that Timed Research) involves battling 8 trainers note  that appear at PokéStops (which is a rather difficult task if you don't have many PokéStops next to you) with a type that resembles the Gym Leaders from the Johto games, and also requiring you to catch a Pokémon that resembles the second Pokémon that trainer used (with the exception of the Bug and Fighting type trainers, in which it's the Pokémon resembling the third one they used) before moving on to the next one. After beating all 8 trainers, you are required to earn 2,000 Stardust before challenging the final trainer, which turns out to be none other than the leader of the team you are on!note  Eventually, after an intense battle (in which they use a Legendary Beast that they use when you battle them in the Master League), Entei, Raikou, or Suicune (depending on which team you are on at the time) comes in immediately afterwards. After catching the Legendary Beast, you are declared the Johto Battle Challenge Champion by Professor Willow. It's a satisfying conclusion to a long journey to catch the Legendary Beast, and you even get to choose from two options that you wish to choose from afterwards, one of which causes the trainers to continue to spawn for the duration of the event, and one causes the PokéStops to not cause the trainers to appear, with either option causing any Pokemon you catch for the rest of the event to be marked with the special title of “Johto Battle Challenge Champion”.
  • Any time a Global Research/Challengenote  is completed, as usually the bonuses given as global rewards are truly worth the pain.
    • The 2017 Global Catch Challenge, which was held in November 20 - 26 2017, is a very noticeable event. After the failure of the GO Fest back in July, many began to view Niantic in a cynical light, and believed that it could never again hold such a massive catch challenge. The event was to catch 3 billion Pokémon in a week, which many believed right away that the event will fail. Not only was the event successful, players reached the goal in just six days! Best of all, Farfetch'd was released worldwide for 48 hours (South-East Asia got Kangaskhan because Farfetch'd is already catchable there)! And because this event was very successful with 3.3 billion Pokémon caught, Ho-Oh became a raid boss unexpectedly!
    • The 2018 event spanned three simultaneous events: Pokémon GO Safari Zone in Dortmund, Germany; Pokémon GO Fest in Chicago, IL; and Pokémon GO Safari Zone in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Each of these events required their participants to complete 100.000 research tasks, and three different regions (Europe, Middle East and Africa; The Americas; and the Asia-Pacific region) to complete 5.000.000 tasks, eithin three time limits (June 30-July 1st. for the Dortmund event, July 14-15 for the Chicago event, and September 1-2 for the Yokosuka event). The rewards for these completions? The Dortmund event granted XP bonuses for Catches, Raid Battles and Hatches, and extended time for Lucky Egg durations, as well as unlocking Articuno day; the Chicago event had Candy bonuses for Catches, Hatches and Raid Battle victories guaranteeing them, as well as half the hatching time for Eggs and unlocking Zapdos day; and the Yokosuka event had Stardust bonuses for Catches, Hatches and Raids, as well as doubled time for the Star Piece. And if that wasn't enough, Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres caught in their days have their Legacy attacks Hurricane, Thunder Shock and Sky Attack.!
