Awesome / Made in Abyss

Go To

As a Moments page, all spoilers will be unmarked!

  • Perhaps the greatest moment of awesome is a small group of delvers consisting of up to four children and hollows managed to survive all the way to the final floor of the Abyss...not because they are well-equipped or powerful (they really aren't), but because of dumb luck. Many of the stuff that kill people in the Abyss, be it Bondrewd, the Mockwater or simply the dangerous fauna lying around would had been annihilated them or at least killed Riko if things don't "just" happen to diminish their threat level to something manageable.
  • Reg's first use of the Incinerator is truly a sight to behold. It destroys everything in its path, and its path is big.
  • Reg's Heroic Rematch with Orby the Orbed Piercer shows him handily subduing the creature and preparing a coup-de-grace, complete with "How dare you harm Riko!"
    • This is also an awesome moment for Nanachi because it shows their knowledge of such creatures and how best to exploit this knowledge.
  • The battle against Bondrewd, which takes place over two encounters on the Fifth Layer.
    • Despite Bondrewd not being in a proper combat body during the first encounter, it still deserves mention. The gang speed-blitzes him with so many different strategies in succession that he's barely even able to defend himself. They start by luring him into a trap and using Blaze Reap to send him falling into a pit of giant Stingerheads - and when he blasts his way out, they immediately hit him with a point-blank bomb and an arrow filled with man-eating insect larvae, before Reg promptly throws him around, sends him underwater (into the Sixth Layer), and uses the ascension curse to mutilate his body before crushing him under a boulder for good measure. Keep in mind, all of their attacks save the scorpion trap took a span of only a few minutes.
    • Reg's enraged form is not only able to match the Lord of Dawn's combat body in battle, but for the first time in the story, Bondrewd is forced on the defensive.
    • Their final battle has all of them pulling out the stops - from Reg and Bondrewd's aerial duel as they climb the ruins of Idofront while exchanging Beam Spam, to Bondrewd getting the Abyss' blessing and thrashing Reg, to Riko finding Reg's detached arm and activating it to blow Bondrewd's lower body clean off after he dodges a point-blank incinerator shot.
  • Considering the sheer amount of Nightmare Fuel in this setting, anyone who is alive in it, and isn't dead does many awesome things.
  • Riko's plan to capture the Oogasumi in Chapter 46.2.
  • Ozen. Hate her, or love her, she’s rocks the line between Rule of Cool and Nightmare Fuel. She's been a Living Legend for decades due to her immense strength.
    • In the end, while her methods inspire a lot of ire against her, she mentions Bondrewd by name, who WILL mutilate the characters if given the chance. No ‘training moment,’ no lessons learned, if the characters aren’t at least somewhat ready to fight him off, their story ends with him.
  • The Ganja managing to reach the 6th Layer despite having no prior knowledge or experience with the Abyss. The fact that they weren't completely slaughtered after blindly charging into that hell pit says something about their determination.
  • In what appears to be a split second, Faputa goes from self-maimed moth child, to regenerating all damage and slaughtering Ilburu’s de-facto protector.
