  • During the 1989 Halloween Havoc, The Great Muta was scheduled to tag with Terry Funk against Ric Flair and Sting in an "electrified cage match". Before the match started, the electricity accidentally set a prop on fire. Mutoh, thinking quickly, jumped on the cage and used his mist gimmick to put out the fire before it could spread. Everyone then resumed the show like nothing had happened.
  • His match against Nobuhiko Takada at the NJPW/UWF-i Tokyo Dome event in 1995. Up to the time, it was the largest pro wrestling crowd ever gathered in Japan, the largest crowd for any indoor event ever in Tokyo, and the third most successful non-PPV event in pro wrestling history.
  • His final retirement match in Pro-Wrestling NOAH was given the appropriate amount of gravitas it deserved, with it going a full 9 minutes, two of which was 15 second clips of every single theme song he's ever had over the course of his 39-year career, which ends with him appearing with thousands of people chanting "MUTA-OH!" as he makes his way to the ring for the final time to the sound of "Hold On", his first real entrance theme.
