The 2012 Academy Award for Best Original Song went to Bret for writing "Man or Muppet" in The Muppets (2011). There was only one other nominee that year: "Real in Rio" from Rio. Jemaine, though not involved with the nominated song, played the villain in Rio and co-wrote his Villain Song. So in a roundabout way, the entire race for Best Original Song in 2012 was between the two members of Flight of the Conchords.
