  • The fact that Doran Martell managed to totally eradicate the Grey Plague. Not only he quickly understood the infection mechanism and worked to inoculate his people lowborn and highborn, he also spread the word and the means to do so in the Seven Kingdoms and Essos too. The result is two continents as a whole practically worshiping him and scrambling to show gratitude to Dorne.
  • The melee at the tourney deserves mention. When Oberyn decides to fight in hopes of killing Amory Lorch, Ned, Robert, Renly (who according to the narration had never entered a melee in his life) and a couple others all join to protect both him and Lyarra (if one soulmates dies than the other may die as well, especially if the bond is new). By the end of it, Ned is among one of the few left standing. Then there's Robert's speech afterwards.
Robert: "This is not knightly conduct! This is no way for knights of the realm to act! Knights of my realm know their vows and know their duty! They do not turn on the backs of other knights! They do not bring honed blades onto a melee field in the guise of tourney weapons! True knights do not flee the field in cowardice! They do not throw their victory away in the hopes of currying favor, like some boot-licking eunuch from Essos! No, I will not have it. This purse goes to the people! The Master of Coin shall use it to buy in more grain for the city, and that is final. Your King wills that if no man has the valor to fight me honestly, then no man shall have the prize! Let it feed the women and children instead!"
  • The ladies from the Martell parties - which is three young girls - turning the tables against the mercenaries sent by the Queen to kill them. It involves:
    • Walda immediately picking a mace up to bash knees. She actually impresses Barristan the Bold, to the point he decides to grant her the mace as a souvenir.
    • The very pregnant Lyarra powers through nausea and disorientation to make use of her sword lessons.
    • Gwyn leads Amory Lorch away from the others and kills him with her hatchet. Some little girls do grow up, and they will defend themselves accordingly.
