The film takes place exactly halfway through the last episode of the fifth season and covers the manga's last chapter.
A novelization by Shuka Matsuda was published on the same day as the film.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed by Light provides examples of:
- Awesome Moment of Crowning: Averted. Elizabeth's father had gotten tired of Meliodas delaying his coronation (and by extension, his own retirement) over and over again, so when he finally gets Meliodas in a situation where he can't decline, he slams the crown on his head rather forcefully.
- Finale Movie: The film takes place after the final battle of the main series' canon and serves as a conclusion for the anime series.
- Forever War: According to the film, the Holy War between the Demons and Goddesses was supposed to never end. The Supreme Deity, the Big Bad of the film, seeks revenge against the Seven Deadly Sins for daring to win the war instead of letting it continue indefinitely, no matter how many problems that might cause for the humans, fairies, and giants caught in the middle.
- Sealed with a Kiss: At the conclusion, Meliodas and Elizabeth kiss during their wedding.
- Wedding Finale: The film concludes with Meliodas and Elizabeth's official wedding and coronation ceremony, making them king and queen of the Kingdom of Liones.
